'Cause I was curious about what is the general consensus on the separated parts of SDOIT :P
Mine are:
1. Solitary Shell
2. About to Crash
3. TTTSTA
4. About to Crash Reprise
-
5. Goodnight Kiss
6. WIMH
7. Overture
8. Losing Time
-
The last four parts.
Test... is mostly great, too, but I docked it for the keyboard solo, which I dislike.
-
I love em all but if I had to choose four, they would be:
Overture
TTTSTA
Goodnight Kiss
Solitary Shell
-AAgent66
-
Why don't you ask me to choose my favourite child while I'm at it? :lol
I went with Overture, ATC, SS, and Losing Time, although that last choice was a very close call with ATC Reprise. The whole song is pretty much perfect, but these parts are a little bit more perfect.
ATC and SS in particular still sound as amazing as ever, and are a pure joy to listen to every single time.
-
About to Crash, Solitary Shell, About to Crash (Reprise) and Losing Time/Grand Finale. Probably rated like this:
1. About to Crash (Reprise)
2. Losing Time/Grand Finale
3. About to Crash
4. Solitary Shell
----------------
5. Goodnight Kiss
6. Overture
7. The Test That Stumped Them All
8. War Inside My Head
Though I'm probably becoming pretty known for not having a favorable view of this album compared to the rest of the DT albums, it's not the fault of the title song. This isn't my favorite DT song, but it's a very good experimental long-form epic. I'd definitely rate it in the top 20 DT songs.
-
About to Crash (Reprise) is one of my fav musical sections ever. And the rest of the song is pretty glorious as well.
-
That ATCR intro riff.
-
About to Crash (Reprise)
About to Crash
Solitary Shell
The Test That Stumped Them All
War Inside My Head
Overture
Losing Time/Grand Finale
Goodnight Kiss
But it feels wrong to put anything at the bottom. It's ALL amazing. Although, I definitely have a hard line between the top 4 and the bottom 4.
-
I love them all except TTTSTA. It's too weird for me.
-
This is a great thread for me, since I have a hard time enjoying 6DOIT as a whole, I like seeing the "best parts".
Mine are:
WIMH
TTTSTA
Goodnight Kiss
Solitary Shell
-
Solitary Shell is my favourite song / piece / extract / movement / bit / nugget on the entire double album. :)
-
ABT
GNK
SS
ABT(R)
-
About to Crash
Goodnight Kiss
Solitary Shell
Losing Time/Grand Finale
-
About to Crash
Losing Time/Grand Finale
About to Crash (Reprise)
War Inside My Head
Probably in that order. I also love Test. But Goodnight kiss and Solitary shell are both very good as well. The only part I'm not that crazy about is Overture, although it's pretty rad on Score.
-
Losing Time
About to Crash
About to Crash (Reprise)
Goodnight Kiss
Solitary Shell is close, too, but that guitar solo in Goodnight Kiss :hefdaddy
-
I went with Overture because it's the only part I'll listen to by itself. I also love Goodnight Kiss but if I don't have time to listen to the whole song I won't listen to any of it except for Overture.
-
I love the song as a whole, but my favorite parts are:
Solitary Shell
About to Crash
TTTSTA
War Inside My Head
The least favorite would probably be Overture.
-
Six Degrees is among my favorite of DT's epics, along with SFAM. In order, my favorite parts are:
1. Grand Finale/Losing Time
2. Overture
3. War Inside My Head
4. Solitary Shell
5. About to Crash
6. Goodnight Kiss
7. The Test That Stumped Them All
8. About to Crash (Reprise)
I actually like About to Crash and Goodnight Kiss. There is nothing inherently wrong with TTTSTA and the ATC (Reprise), it's just that I usually skip them when I'm listening to the album in order to get to the better tracks.
-
About to Crash (Reprise)
Solitary Shell
The Test That Stumped Them All
Goodnight Kiss
In that order. ATC(R) has one of my all-time favorite DT instrumental passages.
-
I can't put any of these 4 above one another:
1. About To Crash
1. Goodnight Kiss
1. Solitary Shell
1. About To Crash (Reprise)
----------------------------
But these would be ranked in this order:
5. The Test That Stumped Them All
6. Losing Time/Finale
7. Overture
8. War Inside My Head
-
ABT
GNK
SS
ABT(R)
Uuuhh...
What's "ABT?"
"About to Trash?"
-
ABT

ABT(R)
Finally, you speak my language.

About to Crash
The Test That Stumped Them All
Goodnight Kiss
About to Crash (reprise)
-
Overture - Introduces the great themes.
Goodnight Kiss - Mainly for the reprise of the main theme.
Solitary Shell - I'm autistic myself, so this section 'speaks' to me (pardon the cheesiness here).
Losing Time/Grand Finale - An epic conclusion to the song, with a brilliant vocal rendition of the main theme.
-
Overture - Introduces the great themes.
Yeah, I love this instrumental. Too bad it always gets the least amount of votes.
-
That ATCR intro riff.
Absolutely :metal
-
Sections 2-5. Nothing from SS on really grabs me, so I usually end up treating SDOIT as basically consisting of those four parts, with the GK solo as the climax. Ranked, I'd go in reverse order: GK, TTTSTA, WIMH, ATC.
-
AtC, TTTSTA, SS, & AtC(R)
-
Overture - Introduces the great themes.
Yeah, I love this instrumental. Too bad it always gets the least amount of votes.
Personally, i think it goes for far too long. I remember i used to skip it sometimes.
AtC, TTTSTA, SS, & AtC(R)
:hifive:

Swapping Solitary Shell and War Inside My Head out for ATCR and LT/GF

Solitary Shell
Easy.
-
About To Crash
About To Crash Reprise
Solitary Shell
Goodnight Kiss
Losing Time/Grand Finale
Test That Stumped Them All
War Inside My Head
Overture
I usually like to listen to ATC and ATC(R) back to back.
-
1. Solitary Shell
2. About to Crash (Reprise)
3. About to Crash
4. The Test That Stumped Them All
5. Goodnight Kiss
6. Losing Time/Grand Finale
7. Overture
8. War Inside My Head
It's ALL amazing, though. So much heart, passion and emotion in this entire song. I love every second of it. WIMH is probably the "weakest" just because it feels a bit out of place musically from the rest, and it's only a 2 minute segment anyway. I always disliked the transitions from ATC to WIMH and from WIMY to TTTSTA.
On a slightly different note, if I want to listen to a shorter version, Overture, About to Crash, About to Crash Reprise and Losing Tiime/Grand Finale work amazing as one song (though obviously not as well).
-
I tend towards the first half being stronger then the second, but I wouldn't be able to put the parts in a specific order.
-
6DOIT was my first DT song and it remains to be my favorite of all DT's catalogue. When I first heard the Overture I was fully blown away because of the beauty of the orchestrations, but my favorite 6DOIT part will alwas be About to Crash. At the time, I had never heard anything like that, I was almost in tears.

Goddammit

I LOL'd really hard for a longer time Hef.

Finally, you speak my language.
What language is that?
Anyway Hef, there's no need for getting mad and blaspheming. You should try to have a sense of HUMOR about it! I'm constantly having to go back and correct those kinds of mistakes on here, because I constantly MAKE those kinds of mistakes. You could just go back and rewrite it.
And King, if you and Hef and anyone else get a lot of entertainment value from that sort of thing, I highly recommend a book called Horror Movies-The Good, the Bad & the So Good They're Bad, by an author named Kevin Lindenmuth. I've never SEEN so many spelling and punctuation errors, incomplete sentences, bad grammar, mismatched phrases, misplaced metaphors and so on in a single book! You may never stop "LOL-ing!"
Anyway, to get back on-topic, my choices are as follows:
About to Crash
The Test That Stumped Them All
Solitary Shell
AtC (Reprise)
With a strong honorable mention for:
War Inside My Head,
and the second (instrumental) half of Goodnight Kiss.
-
I spell like crap and Hef finally made a mistake. He has been shamed. :lol

ATC
War
ATC Reprise
Losing Time

The entire back-half for me. I love the second half a bit more than the first half.
Solitary Shell
Goodnight Kiss
About To Crash Reprise
Losing Time / Grand Finale
The Test That Stumped Them All
About To Crash
Overture
War Inside My Head
I'm not putting WIMH at the bottom because it's so short, but because there could've been a BIT more to it...so yeah, probably because it's short, but not solely due to length. I feel like there could've been something else there, in addition to what we got. I dunno... I like the Overture a bit more, though, the way the themes all blend together.

I'm constantly having to go back and correct those kinds of mistakes on here, because I constantly MAKE those kinds of mistakes.
I don't.
-
If that's true, then it's all the more reason to not let it bother you.
But I find it hard to believe that anyone can honestly say they make far fewer mistakes than the average person.
-
Just in response to the OP, when I think DTF, I don't think general consensus. I think delightful cornucopia of widely varying opinions that I couldn't have imagined on my own. And I think that is what we are getting as usual - very enjoyable.
-
But I find it hard to believe that anyone can honestly say they make far fewer mistakes than the average person.
Are you familiar with what "average" means?
-
You mean as a mathematical term?
What word SHOULD I have used?
"NORMAL?"
-
You mean as a mathematical term?
As it would apply in any situation.

Hef also knows the secret to the Colonel's secret recipe. I hate him sometimes.

Shhhh

Solitary Shell by far.

Solitary Shell by far.
You can pick 4 favorites ;)

Am I the only one who considers The Enemy Inside as a spiritual sequel to WIMH?
-
Am I the only one who considers The Enemy Inside as a spiritual sequel to WIMH?
Even though they deal with the same topic, I don't think of them as related in any way.
-
Am I the only one who considers The Enemy Inside as a spiritual sequel to WIMH?
Probably.
-
The last four parts.
-
You mean as a mathematical term?
As it would apply in any situation.
So what's your point?
-
Am I the only one who considers The Enemy Inside as a spiritual sequel to WIMH?
I think it's more like In the Presence of Enemies.
-
Went with War Inside My Head through Solitary Shell.
-
You mean as a mathematical term?
As it would apply in any situation.
So what's your point?
That if you know what "average" means, this this statement
I find it hard to believe that anyone can honestly say they make far fewer mistakes than the average person.
makes no sense.
Lots of people will make fewer (even far fewer) mistakes than the average (in whatever subject we are talking about). Those people are "above average."
Lots of people will make more mistakes (even far more) than the average (in whatever subject we are talking about). Those people are "below average."
