Isn't this the Katowice thread?

How much time would they ve given in MINSK? Important detail as we are going to have two basic setlists, longer and shorter depending on time slots. I really believe that longer setlist would include 100% of shorter one, and of course some more stuff...
-
So guys, is anyone from DTF going to this gig? Should we expect the live setlist updates? (We probably shouldn't, but thought I'll ask anyway.)
-
hopefully they have asia tour :)) im looking forward on that
-
Looking forward to seeing what the setlist will be.
AFAIK, no Asia tour this year. This is just a tour of the European summer festivals, with selected headlining dates in-between.
-
Unconfirmed spoilers from the soundcheck:
Wither and ACOS
-
Does anyone know when DT starts playing and how long the set will be? I looked for info on the net, but couldn't find anything.
-
Unconfirmed spoilers from the soundcheck:
Wither and ACOS
Did, it's a thread about the show. If people do not want spoilers, they should not be reading it. The tiny font is unnecessary.
But regarding what you posted:
1. Meh.
2. WHOO!
-
Guys probably started about 9pm, 9:30pm they played 90 or more minutes.
Damn Can't Wait, my 1st stop Katowice-Prague :pirate: (not last)
-
Both would be fantastic. :metal
It's such a shame we won't have any life updates regarding the set list, I'm home this evening and would really enjoy going crazy about the set list. ;D
-
Unconfirmed spoilers from the soundcheck:
Wither and ACOS
:djhef:
-
I think A Change of Seasons is going to be played. Other songs: Panic Attack, Wither, Bridges in the Sky, Behind the Veil.
-
I think ACOS is probably going to be played. I'm kind of meh about the song, and it'll take a lot of time from the setlist, but still, seeing it live would be cool I guess. I hope they'll rotate ACOS with Octavarium and we'll get the latter in Moscow, though I realise it's unrealistic.
-
Burning my soul is being played!! Just saw an instagram video of it
-
Interesting choice.
-
Pretty cool if that is true. I am not much of a fan of the song, but I have long said that I bet it comes off much better in a live setting.
-

Someones updating it!!

Seems like they have a bigger led screen this time

Well thats a surprising start
-
Nice choice to open !!!

-
Yeah but I really doubt they opened with it, show has been going on for about 40 minutes now
-
Or it's a really extended live version :P
-
https://instagram.com/p/4XPEisAEZI/ Metropolis!!
-
Now THAT is probably the opener.
-
Now, raise your hand if you would have bet a dime on Burning My Soul! :lol
-
1. Metropolis pt.1
2. Burning My Soul
????
-
Now, raise your hand if you would have bet a dime on Burning My Soul! :lol
*raises hand* It is a pretty logical choice, and I was speculating last tour that it might surface.
-

I'll ship a dime to the west coast, then.
Still: DEPRESSION PIZZA

It actually looks smaller to me based on that IG video
-
Burning my soul is being played!! Just saw an instagram video of it
THAT was unexpected! :eek I don't dislike BMS, so I'm ok with it being played. I wonder if the general opinion on the song will be more favorable once this tour is over... :P
-
Update pls... xD

I would expect that my own personal opinion will be along the lines of, "Eh, still don't care for the studio version, but seeing it live was pretty cool." (Assuming they keep it in the set when they play the U.S.)
-
Well, I already like it live, so I know I'm going to enjoy it quite a bit! I know I'm in the minority here, but I still hiope it's the 1996 version that show's up, that would make it all better!
by the way, if My memory isn't betraying me, this is the first time Metropolis isn't played in full as a set opener, closer or as part of an encore.

Do we know for certain that it is not in the opening spot?
-
I think whoever's updating setlist.com is just updating as vids come in. We wont know the whole set/order till it's done in a half hour or so
-
Holy shit, Burning my soul! I've always thought it was a pretty rockin' track, very underrated although not fantastic. It's gotta be fun live. But I'm also very surprised they went with it.
-
(https://memearchive.net/animooted.com/screen/202.jpg)
-
Two songs in so far, right? I'll spend the rest of the evening refreshing the thread. :lol
-
+1 Mladen :)
-
Holy shit, I've missed the start. Have they really opened with Metropolis?
edit: oh, I see, probably not.
Burning My Soul is alright.
-
Intro
(Unknown)
(WDADU song)
Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Caught in a Web
Burning My Soul
The Spirit Carries On
About to Crash
As I Am
Panic Attack
Constant Motion
Wither
Bridges in the Sky
Behind the Veil
According to this list. (https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2015/palace-of-sports-minsk-belarus-53c96b61.html)
-
Now that is a tasty looking setlist!
-
Well, they're going chronologically
-
briges in a sky my fav dream theatre song
I also like (Unknown - WDADU song). :lol
-
Well, they're going chronologically
That could mean that the unknown song is a Majesty song?
-
briges in a sky my fav dream theatre song
I also like (Unknown - WDADU song). :lol
Yeah man! I also like 'show in progress...'. They haven't played that in a while.
-
Well, they're going chronologically
That could mean that the unknown song is a Majesty song?
No no no, it's Unknown WDADU song judging by what I see on setlist.fm.
-
Ah no, copy/paste thing, on the site it says 1. Unknown song (WDADU song)
-
I mean, who really cares about those WDADU songs, they're all the same anyway, right? (No.)
I wonder what's the encore if that's the real setlist.
edit: yeah, ACOS sounds like a possibility.
-
And... ACoS ? :p
-
ACOS might be the encore.
And how come we have pretty much the entire set list already? I thought we were like two songs in just 10 minutes ago?
-
Dear lord, my least favourite song :sadpanda:
-
Guessing OAMOT is the WDADU song. JP wanted it last tour so it woukd make sense.
-
Dear lord, my least favourite song :sadpanda:
?
Misunderstood ?
-
Opening with OAMOT would be pretty epic. :metal
If this turns out to be the actual set list, I will be really happy. Especially with Panic attack, Wither and About to crash, those are my favorites of the ones I haven't heard. And it will be awesome to see Bridges in the sky again, as well as some classic older tunes.
-
Dear lord, my least favourite song :sadpanda:
Constant motion?
-
Yeah, that one :(
-
Im not Happy im listen every songs many times expect BTV.BMS is a good choice.
Hope they changed 1 song in other shows.
Caught in a Web ? again relly ? Im waiting on Innocece Faded.
-
Yeah, Constant Motion as a choice from SC, well, not what I would pick. I'd rather hear Forsaken again. Or ITPOE pt. 1 again. Or even TDEN, I don't know.
Yeah, and Caught in a Web again, damn. I hope they'll rotate it with either 6:00 or IF.
-
Yeah that's the one I don't really get. If I should've guessed a song based on the one-an-album theme, I would've guessed the first half of ITPOE. Or MAYBE repentance.
-
Afterlife was the opener
-
I have to say that, for the first time since PN09 tour, i'm not that happy about the setlist. Hope it will have a couple of changes.
-
Afterlife was the opener
oh cool!
-
Very good choice !!! :)
-
Show's over. Hopefully there was an encore!
-
I mean, who really cares about those WDADU songs, they're all the same anyway, right? (No.)
It is more likely that whoever is providing the update just doesn't know the WDADU songs well enough to know which one it was, that's all.
Not to nitpick, but if I could change one song in the set list, it would be TSCO. Not that it isn't a good song. But it has been played to death. I think Home is a better choice because it is almost universally liked and hasn't been played in ages. (but I understand that the length might be a problem, given other stuff they want to play)
-

This could be the set for the festivals because of the timing. The non festival sets could be much different.
-
Afterlife was the opener
:tup
-
Looks like a pretty good festival/anniversary setlist - lots of hits, but that was to be expected. BMS and ATC are cool surprises! I can't say I like CM that much, but it probably works better live. I wonder if they used a JLB backing track for MP's parts or if JP sang them...
EDIT: Afterlife?! :omg: :2metal:
-
If they're going chronologically, this is what I would've liked to hear, while trying to maintain the flow and not repeat too many songs:
WDADU song
Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper (well, it makes sense as the second song too)
Innocence Faded
Hollow Years (Burning My Soul is alright too)
Home
Blind Faith (or Disappear)
As I Am
Panic Attack
ITPOE pt. 1
Wither
Bridges in the Sky
The Bigger Picture
I mean, who really cares about those WDADU songs, they're all the same anyway, right? (No.)
It is more likely that whoever is providing the update just doesn't know the WDADU songs well enough to know which one it was, that's all.
Yeah, I realize that, just throwing a playful jab at it. This one made me smile, really.

IKR it's the most played song after many of the Images and Words songs.
-
A couple of guys who are at the show have just posted (on Dream Theater's vkontakte page, that's like the Russian version of Facebook) that James said from the stage: "We hope to have the new album out in January 2016".
That's by no means some kind of concrete info, they could have misheard or whatever, but 2 separate guys wrote it within seconds of each other so...I post it here. If it proves to be wrong, I apologise.
-
So anyway, no encore and no ACOS?
-
I just made a playlist from the set.
Afterlife is a great opener! :omg: Who new?
-
Probably no encores for the festival. I assume they need to get other performers on. ACOS would make a good encore at a solo outing though...IMO
-
I just made a playlist from the set.
Afterlife is a great opener! :omg: Who new?
I forgot that that's the WDADU song on Score too. That's strange, right?
-
My changes
Afterlife - ok
Take The Time
Innocence Faded
Burning My Soul ? ok
Through Her Eyes
Blind Faith or Disappear
Vacant + Stream
Answers
PoW
Wither ? ok
LNF or TitL, never played in Europe !!!
BTV ok
Encore :
ACoS
-
Well, I really hope they'll rotate BTV with TBP at least. The Bigger Picture should be a hell of a closer.
-
So anyway, no encore and no ACOS?
Maybe there wasn't enough time? I counted the song lengths together and they add up to 1 hour and 25 minutes, so maybe ACOS will be played as the encore at the headlining dates where DT gets to play for 2 hours.
Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed for a 2-hour set in Helsinki, even though it's a festival... :lucien:

That is consistent with what JP said in a recent interview.
-
I'll be on 4 shows, i hope They Played ACoS....
Next stop in Katowice - my 1st stop... Only 90 minutes here, so i think They will play the same setlist.
-
They only play for 60 minutes in Holland :( i'm looking for people to go to Bonn in Germany. They are headling there and Devin Townsend and Haken are the other bands playing that night.
But all my friends can't go.
-
A Change of Seasons: I The Crimson Sunrise
-
A Change of Seasons: I The Crimson Sunrise
What?
-
nr 4
-
LOVE the "Chronological effort".
Not so crazy about the set though (for me! ;))
My changes (bolded)would be:
Only A Matter of Time
Take The Time
Voices
A Change of Seasons 1 "The Crimson Sunrise"
Burning My Soul
Through Her Eyes
About to Crash
Stream of Consciousness
I Walk Beside You
Constant Motion
Wither
Lost Not Forgotten
Behind the Veil
-
It's not a bad set, considering the limited time. We still don't know if it's static or not. I guess we will find out in two days.
That being said I believe there should always be an encore of some kind in a show, and closing with BTV feels a bit odd, if I remember correctly the ending is quite abrupt.
-
Less than 48 hours, to my 1st DT show in this year, im really scarred (1st time) still waiting on ACoS, I'll wear a obama mask :>
-
Scared or scarred? :lol
By the way, if ACOS-I is indeed in the main body it looks less likely than the whole song might be intended as the encore for the longer gigs.
-
I approve the choice of the songs played this evening (Afterlife and Burning My Soul are really killer mode!), even if there is always something that I don't like (in this case, Constant Motion). But... no A Change of Seasons? Only the first scene? I hope there's a mistake, because Petrucci said the shows would have lasted about two hours. And the show in Minsk lasted one hour and half... just to have time for A Change of Seaons in its entire as encore...
-
Few short videos on YT :>
-
Kind of a Meh setlist.
-
Kind of a Meh setlist.
I kinda feel that way when I see songs like Afterlife, TSCO, As I Am, and Within in the set. But on the flip side, it does have 3 songs that are in my top 10, parts of 2 others, and a song that I have always thought would be a cool live song (Burning My Soul), so I would be pretty happy overall if I got that set. And they didn't play CIAW at either of the SF shows on the ADTOE tour, so that one would be cool as well.
-
Does anyone know if the Burning My Soul was the '95 or '97 version? Fingers crossed for '95 with HK
-
So far, we don't know. I am betting on the '97 version, simply because of time constraints.
-
The setlist would work better if it wasn't constrained by the order it was played in. IMO There seems to be a lot of great openers and closers all in the middle of the set. lol
-
That's a very odd-looking set list. I get the point of going completely in chronological order, but given the choices, that has to be a show with very odd pacing. Metropolis 2nd? Behind the Veil last? Odd. Not excited about seeing two of their least best songs ever (Constant Motion and Burning My Soul), for sure.
-
I don't think the setlist is all that great. Could do without CM, TSCO, Wither and PA.
Seems to lack flow too.
-
Set looks pretty cool to me. Hopefully they get Devin Townsend to sing BMS again.
-
Hopefully they get Devin Townsend to sing BMS again.
Yes please! That would be quite hilarious actually :lol
-
Interesting set. I haven't found any YouTube videos yet, has anyone else?
-
THRILLED that Wither is in the setlist. I hope it makes it to the U.S. on this tour.
And yes, Burning My Soul is awesome live.
Panic Attack and Caught in a Web feel like festival stuffers (akin to stocking stuffers), so hopefully as the tour progresses more interesting songs will emerge in the setlist.
Regardless, it looks like DT is making an effort to keep it fresh. Just take a look at https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2015/palace-of-sports-minsk-belarus-53c96b61.html to see that many of the songs have been absent from live play for many years.
Wouldn't it be crazy if DT swaps the ACOS parts for each night, e.g., tomorrow they play Part II, and Part III at the next show, and so forth through the tour?
-
Honestly, most of the songs were the perfect picks. These are festivals, afterall, not headlining shows of their own tour. They're gonna play the most recognized material first and foremost, and maybe a few rarities, otherwise a decent chunk of the crowd will be lost. I know they're headlining some of these festivals, but the same rule applies for headliners, as a lot of the crowd could be casual fans and only know the singles.
Afterlife-doesn't matter what song they play from WDADU following ^, so good enough, but definitely not what I would pick. Weird as an opener, and one of my least favs on the album. OAMoT would've been my pick.
Metropolis- Again, most popular song behind PMU, so logical choice. I have a feeling on their full world tour next year, this will be swapped with the only I&W song Mangini hasn't played: Take the Time.
Caught in a Web- perfect for a festival, and for this spot in the set. Fun, groovy, heavy. Although they did play it already with Mangini, it was still 4 years ago for Europe (I think?), so I think it's fine. Next year, I'd swap for either Innocence Faded or Erotomania/Voices combo, since they haven't played em with Mangini yet.
Burning My Soul- I LOVE that they're playing this. Fun song that'll be great live. This or JLMB are great for festivals. Next year, HK/LitS could be possible, I'd say.
The Spirit Carries On- Understand why it was ut in the set for festivals, but definitely shouldn't be in their set next year. Overplayed to death. I mean, I wouldn't mind cuz I haven't seen it yet, but the best choice is Home. Universally liked, best song to grab the overall story and feel of SFaM, Magini hasn't played it yet.
About to Crash-This was my pick if they needed a shorter song. I want The Glass Prison more than any other song in their catalog, but it's too long for a festival. Next year maybe? PLEASE.
As I Am- perfect festival song. And I wanna see it live so bad.
Panic Attack- ^same.
Constant Motion-^^same. I wanna see Mangini nail the solo section SO bad.
Wither- I would've picked ARoP for the festivals, but I don't love either song so I really don't care. Only song I really want off this album is TCoT which they wouldn't do if they were trying to hit all 12 albums (they only had 10 to hit when they did festivals in 2011).
Bridges in the Sky- GODDAMNIT. YES. PLAY IN THE STATES. PLEASE. Also, awesome festival song. OtBoA needs to take a break for a tour.
Behind the Veil- FINALLY LIVE. Weird to close the set with this, though I'm sure they extended the last note to do a little noodling like they always do, so it's not just DUH DUN DUH DUH kthnxbai.
-
Afterlife?
YES FUCK YES
-
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Helicopter James first officially appeared in Burning My Soul in France in Once in a Live Time, so I expect to see some mesmeric spinning during each performance this tour.
-
Excuse the cliche, but I think that this is an EPIC setlist. I can't believe that people are bitching about this. ???
-
People aren't.
-
That setlist doesn't seem bad at all. I can live without some of them but hey, that's just me. Overall, enjoyful imo.
-
13 songs to represent 12 albums and an EP. Played in order of release. Don't you just LOVE anniversary tours?
-
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this entire set live (most would be a second or third time seeing them), minus About To Crash... which I don't dislike... just... meh.
It just seems like the ordering of the songs. The flow of the set, is a bit wonky.
But they had to work with what they had so... no real complaints.
-
Coincidentally, I was messing around with Six Degrees this weekend and checking out how it sounded going from About To Crash into ATCR, and thinking it would be really cool if they played those on this tour.
-
ATCR?
-
About To Crash (Reprise)
-
Oh
Duh.
-
Hi everyone. I was at the show. I was gonna to start posting here yesterday, but man, registration at this forum sucks. I mean, a captcha, 3 DT-questions AND an admin approve? Jesus. Waited for the latest the whole day yesterday.
Anyway, my 2 cents about the show. My first DT show, hopefully not the last.
It wasn't really a festival, more like a regular show with 3 support bands (25, 25 and 40 minute sets). It was indoors.
A setlist everyone discussing is right
False Awakening (tape intro)
Afterlife
Metropolis Part 1
Caught in a Web
A Change of Seasons Part something (don't remember which part, about 2 minutes long, attached to the end of CIAW as a medley)
Burning My Soul
The Spirit Carries On
About to Crash
As I Am
Panic Attack
Constant Motion
Whither
Bridges in the Sky
Behind the Veil
Before CIAW James said they're gonna play songs from each album on this tour and they did.
Later on he said they're working on the album, which is not 100% finished yet, but will be right after this tour. Planned release date is Jan 2016 and then obviously a world tour (he also promiced to come in Minsk again on that tour, but that's probably what he would say at any show).
-
The Spirit Carries On (good video, bad audio)

-
fillow thx for your review.
-
James is quite buried in the video I posted, but from what I could tell he sounds surprisingly good for a first show! Which makes me very hopeful for the rest of the tour, since he already improves a great deal normally as the legs progress!
-
I want to hear the backing track for Constant Motion. Should be hilarious.
-
Forevermore! Into the night! Blistering!

False Awakening Suite / Afterlife (partial) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E3FCsmfmq8

Sounding great!
-
I'm kinda :mehlin about the setlist as well. Some of my not so favorite songs (CIAW, Wither, BMS), and TSCO has been played to death. Seriously, there are other good songs on that album guys.
Seems like JP did follow the 'What Would Rush Do' approach for the theme of the setlist.
-

Wow, for a start James sounds great.

Fantastic clips. :metal
I'm still stunned that Afterlife is the opener, nobody saw that coming. It's a brilliant song, one of my favorites from their debut.
EDIT: Holy shit, that last note James hits at the end of Afterlife! :hefdaddy
-
The setlist is absolutely PERFECT for festivals...and pretty cool for DT fans in general.
I'd like to hear something from the Majesty era, but i had no luck with that wish...still good anyway ;)
-
It looks like MM's kit is more compact than previously and you can see him a bit better. Taller throne or lowered stands  It will be fun to hear his explanation of the changes if he does an interview during the tour.

So the maze in the background video is the one the mice are running through, right? :neverusethis:
But seriously, James sounds great and I'm happy they're playing one of my all-time favorites! :tup I like the way MM plays the solo section.

Yeah, the order could be better, now that I think about it. Afterlife is a great opener, but having Metropolis as the second song and BTV as the closer just feels so weird. Then there's the 3-song run of metal singles (As I Am through CM)...
-
The song choices are not great, and their order is even worse. Yikes. Although, I'm glad to finally hear news about the album.
-
Love the setlist. For me, personally, there's only two songs that I haven't seen before, so I would change it up a bit for my own personal gain, but I still think it's great having most of the songs be new to the Mangini Era.
My set would look more like:
Only a Matter of Time (Best song I haven't seen from WDADU)
Metropolis
Caught in a Web
ACOS-I
Burning My Soul
Through Her Eyes (Between this and Regression, they'd probably play this one :P)
The Great Debate (Same as above, but with Disappear)
As I Am
Panic Attack
Repentance (Last song I need from SC)
The Best of Times (I know it's silly, but it's the only one I haven't seen from this album!)
Far From Heaven (BITS is way better, but FFH is the last song I need from ADTOE)
Behind the Veil

Any clips from ACOS or Behind The Veil? I'm curious to watch those.
-
Anyway, my 2 cents about the show. My first DT show, hopefully not the last.
It wasn't really a festival, more like a regular show with 3 support bands (25, 25 and 40 minute sets). It was indoors.
<snip>
A Change of Seasons Part something (don't remember which part, about 2 minutes long, attached to the end of CIAW as a medley)
Hey fillow - thanks for sharing your experience! By chance have you managed to recall what section of ACoS they played? Did it have vocals or was it instrumental? Perhaps part VII (The Crimson Sunset)? It would seem odd to me for them to play any other section other than part VII and not segue immediately into another track (unless they did, going into BMS).
Was BMS the album version or did it contain part of Hell's Kitchen (which would be the original demo version)?
And what were the names of the support bands and the venue itself?
-
Setlist.FM had it as The Crimson Sunrise.
Damn if that's not the biggest tease!
-
Leprous is one of the support bands. Did not expect that :metal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipWqb8a02jw :o :o WOW this was AWESOME!! I wish I could see more of the concert because they really nailed this song. What a great way to start the show, Afterlife then this.
-
Good to see Mangini really owning this song. He looks very comfortable right now.
-
Nice - I just wish JP would toughen up the sound for those chugga riffs - always sounds so tinny.

Hi everyone. I was at the show. I was gonna to start posting here yesterday, but man, registration at this forum sucks. I mean, a captcha, 3 DT-questions AND an admin approve? Jesus. Waited for the latest the whole day yesterday.
Sorry. We have found it necessary.
Thanks for sharing!

I like the setlist very much, but I hope, that DT will change it a little every now and then, just for more songs to have chance to be heard. I think that a perfect setlist is an unique one. Dream theater songs are long and extremely hard to play, so I understand that there can't be a new setlist every show, but if it was kept updated, unlike last year, I would be pleased. It's strange that some bands keep playing the same set for a whole year, while others keep changing it as much as possible. But playing one song from each album is great.

Whoa, this takes a while (almost 2 days!) to be approved here ^^
This was one hell of a show. Leprous was a discovery for me, these Norwegians are ridiculously awesome. As for DT - well, we have been waiting for 30 years, and we got ourselves an opening gig at the 30th anniversary tour (got myself a T-shirt) :) The setlist was to my liking, a lot of songs that I favour (Afterlife as a first song, hell yea!), and the crowd was really excited to be there. I hope DT come back with the new album tour as James promised.
The only negative thing was the lack of communication with the fans. There were no M&G/VIP packages, no authograph sessions, and after the show the guys were so in a hurry that they barely signed anything for a small group of people that decided to wait for them.
But anyhow, the show was awesome, and I hope the band liked us enough to visit more frequently from now on :) \o/

Huh????? Based on the cell phone recordings you've heard? Or actually live?

Can any of the people who were at the show confirm whether the part of ACOS that got played was The Crimson Sunrise (the opening instrumental) or Innocence (a vocal section)? EDIT: Nevermind, looks like the setlist was corrected already: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2015/palace-of-sports-minsk-belarus-53c96b61.html

I think they'll keep it the same, because pretty much all the shows this summer are festivals and the limited playing time leaves little room for deviation, especially when they're playing one song from each album. Personally I'm happy there are zero repeats from last tour, as I'm seeing DT live for the second time in August, but I understand that some fans have heard Metropolis, TSCO, As I Am, etc. multiple times and would prefer something else. I bet the setlist for the next proper world tour will be less safe and include some more obscure gems.
-
I personally love this setlist.
This is a festival tour and the band has dubbed it their 30th anniversary tour, so I'm not sure why people didn't expect a festival-like setlist of shorter songs and one from each album. Not to mention DT has always played their more popular or well-known songs at festivals anyway, so seeing songs like Burning My Soul or Afterlife is pretty rare to see, for sure.
