Title: Lolzeez's Roulette! (Three times the charm) v. FINAL RESULTS!
Post by: Lolzeez on March 22, 2015, 09:56:08 AM
Hey people! It's been a while since i've last been fairly active on this site and I say it's about time I come back to my favorite forum. This is my third roulette and I haven't invited anyone yet. Hell,I forgot I was gonna run a third roulette till I was messaged about it! But anyways, just tell me if you wanna participate. My music taste has changed greatly through the past couple years and some of you have introduced to me some of my current favorite bands. Heck,I didn't even know about Post Rock before I came to this site. That just blows my mind. Anyways, the rules are simple:

1.Check my Rateyourmusic before sending songs please. I want to hear some new music and be introduced to some new bands. My rym account is: https://rateyourmusic.com/~Lolzeez
2.Don't send music from a band that has been sent before unless the style of music is way different.
3.Just have fun

Okay,if you wanna participate, just reply below. I wont be able to respond today,I have an Opeth concert to go to.  :metal But talk to you guys soon!

FIRST ROUND!

Just send me anything you think i'd like or just something that you enjoy. Also, you can send me YouTube links but you can also just tell the
Artist/Song Name/Album so i can look it up on Spotify and stuff. Results might be late, since it's my exam week. But I'll try to do my best.

Sent! Since you mentioned going to an Opeth concert in your first post I figured a few growls wouldn't hurt you :D .
Also, can we send songs from artists that have very few plays on your lastfm? (say, under 10?)

Excuse the flood, but i also PM'd couple people from previous roulettes of mine, asking if they wanted to join. So yes,it's still possible to join!

Also,I love how I gave one of my current fav songs of all time a 5/10 in the previous roulette.

Quote
LieLowTheWantedMan: The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Here's a band that I can never "get". Much like Joy Division and The Cure. The vocals are pretty average and the song just isn't anything special. It's better than most of The Smiths songs I've heard but still, nothing special.

5/10

Round 1 Results!

Scorpion:Dog Fashion Disco - Silent Film

Very Mr. Bungle-ish. The music video was also pretty damn cool. My problem with most Mr Bungle-like bands is that there’s a lot to digest and it kinda ends up making the music a bit forgettable. Besides that,it was a short fun song. 7/10

Tyrias:Eluveitie - A Rose For Epona

A huge turn off for me is folk elements in metal. It just doesn’t work for me. The vocals were quite a stand out though. The chorus was pretty nicely written. But like I said, the folk elements made it quite cheesy. Still, not too bad. 6/10

Senecadawg2:Sonus Umbra - Palestinian Black

Wow this was hard to sit through. I mean yeah, great musicianship but no much lasting appeal. I liked the flute though. But still, kind of a pain to listen to more than once. 5/10

Zantera:Cardiacs - Bodysbad

Oh my god,the chord progressions and time signatures in this is fucking crazy! This sounds like Pixies being covered by some obscure prog band. Not huge on the vocals but it was an enjoyable listen albeit a bit overly silly. 7.5/10

Lucien:Dmitri Shostakovich - Symphony 5 Finale

Sorry, not huge on classical music. I really tried listening to pure classical but for me it has to be either Modern Classical or just no classical at all. This was okay,it got a bit old halfway through though.the calm section was nice but it just drifted my attention elsewhere. So yeah, classical doesn’t go well with me. 5/10

Sacul:Destiny Potato - Love Song

Lol at the band name. Anyways I sensed a bit of a Pop Metal vibe from this. The riff sounds very Devi Townsend-y but overall it comes up more like Amaranthe for me,i just can’t dig it. The Djent elements is a huge turn off for me. I’m not huge on the whole Pop Metal thing anyways,if i wanted some artsy pop,i usually prefer the dreamier and quirkier side. (Björk,St Vincent,Kate Bush etc.) But enough said, the song was okay for the first listen but it got me really bored afterwards. 4/10

Onno:Shining (Norway) - I Won’t Forger

I thought this would be the Swedish black metal Shining lmao. But this was quite cool. I wasn’t too huge on the song but the punk-y and the proggy vibe was really badass. The sax was also excellent. More listens really helped this grow on me. This was quite the fun song. First discovery of the roulette! 8/10

Tom Bombadil:Umphrey McGee - In The Kitchen

They are talented for sure but this sounded a bit too safe. Decent chorus though. That was kinda catchy. But other than that, not much going on that interested me. 4/10

Rattlehead:Cursive - Let Me Up

This was okay but a bit forgettable, all i remember is the weirdly placed organ and the decent lyrics. I’ve heard many good things about Cursive though but i think it was all on an older album though. Still got some hope in Cursive and will check out the older stuff. But this song? Not too huge on it,it was okay. 5/10

LieLowTheWantedMan:Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

Holy shit, best song this round EASILY. A really simple, dark and melancholic pop tune. But it still sounds fresh and innovative more than 20 years later. Sounds very Cocteau Twins-y.which I quite like. But yeah this was a quite good song. 9/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 9
Onno - 8
Zantera - 7.5
Scorpion - 7
Tyrias - 6
Senecadawg2 - 5
Lucien - 5

Kind of a bumpy start but that's just how all my roulettes have been like. Hoping for more discoveries in the following rounds.

-Discovered Bands-

Mazzy Star
Shining (Norway)

ROUND TWO! FIGHT!

Okay so just send me something depressing to since i've been going through a lot of shit lately and need some new depression music besides the same American Football and The Cure albums. The results to this will arrive faster though I promise. Good luck!

Round 2 Results!!

Scorpion: Kevin Gilbert - Song For A Dead Friend

This is really sad with some pretty dark lyrics. I had never heard of this guy before and i’ll look into his stuff after this roulette for sure. Great voice and pretty good song. 8.5/10

Tyrias: London Grammar - Strong

This was a decent dreamy art pop song. Vocals are easily the highlight here and instrumentally it’s very minimalistic but very pleasant. I quite liked this and it grew on me with more listens. Nice one!8/10

Senecadawg2: Braveyoung - And No Two Walked Together

Okay this was REALLY good. Some great post rock here that sounds very massive. It reminded me of Shadow Of The Colossus (the video game) for some off reason.  8.5/10

Sacul: Dead Can Dance - Amnesia

I can’t get into this band for some reason. Songs separately sound just great but i cant listen to an album from them for some reason. Anyways, this was one of the better songs I’ve heard from them so far. Pretty eerie orchestration here and the vocals just sound painful. It’s decent but I gotta be in a mood. 7.5/10

Rattlehead: Buffalo Springfield - Expecting To Fly

Okay I was NOT expecting this. This is some baroque pop gold from the late 60s. I never quite bothered to check out this band but it looks like i have to asap. This was a huge surprise. 9/10

Zantera: Listener - Not Today

Oh god one of my weak spots. Midwest Emo. The dude sounds like he’s in tears and it just sounds really sad but beautiful. This is the music i tried to make on my second album. (I dont wanna advertise it but if you wanna hear it ask for it in your next submission,it’s just some angsty singer songwriter stuff) But back on track, one of the best tracks so far in this roulette. Very strong climax at the end makes everything hopeful again and it’s just gorgeous. I must look this up right now. 9.5/10

Onno: Frederic Chopin - Funeral March

Damn, taking risks and sending me classical. This was actually quite alright. I just think that the calm middle part dragged a little bit. But as a composition, this is really nice. Sadly I heard couple better songs this round which is why I can’t give a higher score than 7.5/10

Lucien: Paul Winter Consort - Wolf Eyes

Holy shit I thought you had sent me a song from the noise band Wolf Eyes. Anyways this is some really quiet and pretty jazz. Funny thing is i found couple records of Paul Winter for couple bucks a piece couple days back and yes,his stuff is pretty chill and nice to listen to. A bit too laid back for my tastes when it comes to jazz but it’s still some great stuff. 7/10

Tom Bombadil: Tenhi - Huomen

This kinda dragged a bit but it was pretty good. Pretty nice acoustic sounds on this song. But imo it kinda lacked some variety,it was a bit of a pain to listen to for almost 7 minutes. Couple great melodies floating around though. This was okay. 6/10

LieLowTheWantedMan: Red House Painters - Katy’s Song

I knew I’d get a RHP song. I accepted this one because it’s not from Down Colorful Hill. Anyways, this is some excellent sadcore. Just gorgeous vocal melodies from Mark Kozalek. But yeah, the vocals are a bit too high in the mix. But yes, this was a grower just like anything from the genre of slowcore. (If you haven’t heard any slowcore, listen to Low’s song titled “Lullaby” and “Words” in order to get a general idea) Anyways, not much else to say here other than yes, this song is fucking great. 9/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 18
Zantera - 17
Onno - 15.5
Scorpion - 15.5
Rattlehead - 14
Tyrias - 14
Senecadawg - 13.5
Lucien - 12
Sacul - 11.5
Tom Bombadil - 10

LieLowTheWantedMan is still not getting off that temporary throne of his.  Anyways, for the next round just post something short and sweet. Make it under 3 minutes. Bonus points if it's the shortest song i receive! I'll try to be quicker with this round so don't you worry!  :tup

Sorry for the wait but here it is!

Round 3 Results!

Senecadawg2:David Gray - Twilight

You sent me his stuff last roulette as well. I’m still not too into him to be honest with you. He’s an okay Dylan-ish singer songwriter but I don’t know, just can’t get into singer songwriters anymore. (It’s funny because i made singer songwriter music on my first album, second is a bit more experimental rock-ish and improv) But yea the song was alright. 5/10

Zantera:Loma Prieta - Fly By Night

Damn, this was really intense. I really liked the lead that comes in right in the middle of the song. But yeah, this was a really good Converge-y song with a bit of screamo thrown in. I’m sure i’ll like this album. 8/10

Sacul:Janelle Monae - Cold War

Oh cool,I was planning on listening to her stuff anyways. The problem is that the song is slightly over 3 mins… But whatever I won’t make a huge deal of it. The song was pretty decent,i’m not too huge on R&B but this was quite fun to listen to. Didn’t blow me away or anything but she has a pretty nice voice. I’ll look more into her work. 7/10

Tyrias:Arsitidir - Heidin

This had a very Gilmours-esque feel to it which was pretty nice. The vocals were in a language i didn’t understand but i quite liked them. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the work of this band if i look into them. Thanks for the song. 7.5/10

Rattlehead:The Misfits - The Haunting

I’ve always been too lazy to explore this band. I don’t know why but 80s Punk has always been a pain for me to sit through because I’ve already heard Dead Kennedys and i still have yet to find a band that surpasses their music. This is actually a song from their 90s work which was weird to see since nobody really talks about those albums but yeah it was alright. Nothing great or anything but it was the shortest song i actually recieved! So you get two bonus points. 6+2=8/10

LieLowTheWantedMan:Susanne Sundfor - Father Father

Did someone check my rym or last.fm over here? I only heard her most recent album though so I’ll forgive you. To me,Susanne is way better than all those northern art pop artists. Something about her seems really special to me. Her latest album is just great and I’d recommend it to everyone. This song is a bit less synthpop influenced than her newer stuff. Still it sounds incredible and I absolutely NEED to listen to her older stuff. This is fucking brilliant. 9/10

Onno:Chopin - Prelude In E-Minor

The classical pieces continue. This time it’s a very short piano song. This particular recording sounds really personal to me. You can hear the dude breathing and who knows maybe even crying. I’m not too huge on classical music but I really admire when music sounds sincere and real when it comes to emotions. It’s something i always try to include in my own music actually. But yes, that’s why I really liked this piece. 8.5/10

Scorpion:The Dresden Dolls - My Alcoholic Friends

Yeah this was a pretty nice Piano Rock song. I really really liked her vocal delivery. It’s got a really cool vibe. Not much else to say besides that though. Just a pretty nice little song. 7/10

Lucien:Overgrowth Soungtrack - Main Theme

Not much to say about this one really… It sounds pretty and all but i don’t know,i’m not much of a soundtrack person so I don’t get much enjoyment from this stuff. But yeah it’s pretty and stuff.. 4/10

Tom Bombadil:Joe Jackson - Got The Time

I always see this dude’s albums in dollar bins and i actually bought and sold an album of his. (One with the piano on the cover or something i dont remember the name) But wasn’t too huge on that album. This song was quite fun though. Nice touch with the ending! I’ll look for this in the bargain bins for sure. 7.5/10

I'm going to be going out of the country soon and I won't be able to keep up with this. When it all started, like 6 or 7 weeks ago, I figured it would be wrapping up by the time I left. Tomorrow will be a full two weeks since the last round's results were posted, and the first two took no less than 9 days. I understand that you're in a busy time and I hope you get through it all alright, I'm just going to have to sit the rest of this one out.

Well to be fair, sometimes people are incredibly slow at sending things. When I ran my roulette, I eventually gave up early and called it quits, because even though I devoted an hour or two every day to listen to the songs sent, people couldn't set aside 2-3 minutes to send a song, and waiting can get really tedious.

Fuck, you literally just sent your best song. I've been flooded with schoolwork and if this wasnt that crowded of a year I'd probably finished this roulette already. Ah well...

Anyways,Round 4 Results!

Sacul: Bent Knee - Way Too Long

Eh it was okay but that EEEEEE chorus is really irritating. It just feels like they forgot to write lyrics. The song itself was okay. 5/10

Zantera: Submotion Orchestra - Thinking

Damn I liked this way more than I thought I would. I had free tickets for one of their concerts last year but there was an age restriction. But yeah really cool song I’d like to see them live some day. 7.5/10

Onno: Agent Fresco - Paused

This really reminds me of Dredg. Pretty tight instrumentation and vocals. I quite like the melodies and just how nicely the song flows. 8/10

Senecadawg2: Sarah Fimm - Mercury

HOLY SHIT. This is great. Kinda following up my hype for Susanne Sundfor, this Sarah Fimm song was excellent. Not quite poppy but i really loved the melodies and Sarah’s vocals. Probably the best song of this round. 9/10

Tyrias: Guro Von Germeten - Fa Fa

Uh yeah,I’m sure you were curious what I’d think about this song. :D  This was by far one of the most annoying songs I’ve heard. It was so fucking catchy yet so DAMN annoying. I seriously hate you for sending me this :D Yeah this is easily the catchiest song this round. But not in a good way. Still,i’ll give you a 7 not for the song but for the horrid song stuck in my head. 7/10

Lucien: Frost* - Toys

This had a Neo Prog tag on it so i expected to hate it but yeah you surprised me. It was a good song. This was pretty catchy! I quite liked the vocals and the guitar sounded great. Not much else to say really just a solid song. 8/10

Tom Bombadil: Angels & Airways - Everything’s Magic

Kind of a U2 ripoff,i’m not that huge on U2 anyways so I wasn’t too into it but yeah just like that fucking hilarious Fa Fa song this was catchy. But this time not in a good or bad way. It was just kinda bleh. I don’t really have much to say. 5/10

Rattlehead:The Faint - Posed To Death

Oh shit I remember being recommended this album! Well, this sounds like the punky and distorted cousin of Radiohead’s Idioteque. It’s not too bad but nothing that amazing. It was an enjoyable listen. 7/10

LieLowTheWantedMan: The Olivia Tremor Control - Jumping Fences

Short and fucking sweet. This really sounds like a crossover between The Beach Boys and The Beatles and is the fucking catchy. I LOVED this song and at I’m really surprised with how well you’re doing with this roulette. 9/10

Scorpion: UneXpect - Words

Sounds like Neo Oblivicaris lite to me. The instrumentation is quite nice but the vocals lacked personality imo. They sounded a bit uninspired. The wankery part was quite cool too but there’s nothing catchy here to my ears. It was an okay prog metal song though and I kinda liked it. 6.5/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 36
Zantera - 32.5
Onno - 32
Scorpion - 29
Rattlehead - 29
Tyrias - 28.5
Senecadawg2 - 27.5
Lucien - 24
Sacul - 23.5
Tom Bombadil - 22.5

LieLow is still on the top! I still can't believe how well he's doing. Anyways, since Senecadawg2 is out,the next round will have only 9 contestants. The theme of the round will be chosen by you and for you...by the other contestants besides Tom Bombadil because he's at last place Here's how it will work.

Tom Bombadil picks Sacul's theme.
Sacul picks Lucien's theme.
Lucien picks Tyrias' theme.
Tyrias picks Rattlehead's theme.

you get the idea

Also, post the themes on this thread so that everyone can see the incredible themes we get. (Indian Hip Hop is allowed)

This is actually the worst score I ever got with this song, and you're definetely the first one to call it annoying. I think this was the only song I ever sent that got a perfect ten, but well, I'm glad you can't get it out of your head and hate me for sending it :xbones.

I'm really going to have to think on this round, I gather Lolzeez is not actually the biggest fan of power metal.

As for Rattlehead's theme, I'm gonna be very generous and completely asshole-y at the same time. How, you ask? Well, I'm generous because I'm giving you a choice of two themes, you can select the one you like better. I'm an asshole because the themes are as follows:

1) Send something that would fit in really well on a Ballermann party on Mallorca. If you have never heard of Ballermann, it's where Germans (and many other Europeans as well) go to drink lots of cheap Sangria, do many things they will probably regret later on, and collectively listen to party music most people cannot stand when they're not completely blackout drunk. Since I'm rather nice, here is a one-hour video of Ballermann Live performances: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFS_UjYbpmQ (Come to think of it, I know some people who would consider this torture :lol) Lyrics can be in English, but the music should really fit into this scenario. Some checkpoints to fulfill: Simple beats, lots of synths, repetitive lyrics you can still song along to when you find it impossible to form a whole sentence because you're so drunk, also, lyrics should be either about drinking lots of alcohol, the woman (women?) you want to take home with you this night and love forever (or at least until you forget about her because you can't remember anything ybout last night) or little red ponies. Preferably all 3 at once, and including lots of "Lalalalala" melodies, so drunk people don't need to know the lyrics.

2) Ambientgrindunicornpussy-corestyle. The unicorn part is especially important.

Have fun

Ok, I admit I probably overdid it with these themes, and since the goal of a roulette is to find something Lolzeez could enjoy I'm giving you a third option.
3) World music. Which is pretty much a term for folklore music from all over the world. If you don'thave any ideas, there is a thread on this board about world music.

Round 5 Results!

Tyrias (Power Metal):Kamelot - Memento Mori

This was….okay! The orchestration wasn’t too over the top. The lyrics were still corny but didn’t quite make me cringe. The instrumentation wasn’t too overly flashy and everything. Okay this is for sure more than a 0/10. 7.5/10

Lucien (Written after 1970,no classical):Blue Man Group - Klein Mandelbrot

Pretty cool for what it is. The percussion is really nice and the song wasn’t relying too heavily on the band’s gimmick. Legit surprised with this one. But yeah this is probably 10 times better live. It was a decent Experimental Rock song even though it got a bit stale towards the end. 7/10

Onno (Dutch or German lyrics):Franz Schubert - Der Liermann

Wasn’t too impressed with this one. The concept is really cool and all but i wasn’t too huge on the vocals too. It was just kind of a pain to listen to more than once. Still,I really liked to concept so i’ll still give a 5.5/10

Tom Bombadil (open round):Sting - St Augustine In Hell

Bleh,I’m not a fan of Sting. Sure couple of his singles are enjoyable and I used to love his stuff when I was like 5 but it doesn’t have the same impact anymore.I thought it was a pretty average song. 4/10

Sacul (Brass Instruments):Ulver - Lost In Moments

Looks like someone was stalking my wishlists! :D But yeah I’ve been wanting to hear this album for a while and I’ll just listen to it asap after listening to this amazing song. The brass did indeed elevate this song. I really love Ulver’s Black Metal years and consider Bergtatt to be my favorite “proper” Black Metal album (Maybe behind Filosofem) Also this sounds like the soundtrack of some very futuristic movie set in Tokyo,it’s really haunting. It’s really damn good. Fuck it,have a 9/10

LieLowTheWantedMan (Another Language):Kaizers Orchestra - Ompa Til Du Dor

A gypsy punk band, kinda cool but it got stale pretty quick. Finally you sent a song that I don’t love! :D But yeah this was like 2 minutes too long. I found the lyrics, they’re kinda cool so bonus points there. But the song itself was just barely above average. 5.5/10

Rattlehead (World Music): Zakir Hussain & Shiv Kumar Sharma - Teental

Okay this just faded in the back ground. I had a straight face during the whole thing. It reminded me of Shakti but Shakti is way more intense and…less boring. Just wasn’t my thing I suppose. 3/10

Zantera(Song Without A Chorus): Ride - Cool Your Boots
I just bought this album yesterday! :D But yeah I’m a bit too late to the Ride party. These guys are REALLY good! I’ve been really diving deep into shoegaze lately so it was about damn time I heard this album. This was one of my favorite songs so nice pick! I really love the sound of the guitar. It sounds like a cross between Slowdive and MBV and the main chord progression is really great. Just a stellar song from an underrated album. Not much to say about this one besides that it’s fucking awesome. And yes, that outro is fucking amazing. 9/10

Scorpion(German lyrics):Rammstein - Stein Um Stein

This was actually damn good. I’m not too huge on these guys but the industrial elements worked really well on this track. The guitar riffing is great and that keyboard is fucking badass and I don’t usually say that for keyboards. Quite solid,i’ll give these guys another shot sometime. 8/10

Well, given you predicted me a 0/10 I guess 7,5 isn't too shabby :). I'd personally rate it higher, not a perfect 10 but around 9-ish. Also, this is my favourite Power Metal album of all time.

Round 6 Results!

Scorpion: Anita Belle - Belle Ciao

See this is a song people play on the accordion on the streets of Istanbul every single fucking second. And I’m so fucking sick of it. It’s not that bad of a song really but just hearing this every single day of my life has made it just unlistenable. 3/10

Onno: Snarky Puppy - The Curtain

Eh,this was kinda boring. Some of the sounds were just plain annoying and it just felt kinda overblown. There were some good melodies around though and kinda made the 14 minute long trip worth it. It was a mess but kinda had a charm to it. 6/10

Tyrias: The Clint Mansell - Death Is The Road To Awe (The Fountain OST)

This was a pretty cool movie and the soundtrack was a highlight for sure! Performed by Kronos Quartet and Mogwai, the OST for The Fountain is a really good soundtrack. Really dramatic and sad with a ton of emotion but not too much that it becomes cheesy. I would kinda turn this down but i’ll let it pass since I haven’t really listened to the OST from front to back. I do remember this one though. 8/10

Sacul: Blue Sky Black Death - The Era When We Sang

Okay this is really damn cool,I checked out one of Blue Sky’s projects couple years back and wasn’t too impressed but this is really really good. I really love the calmer section with that great build-up and the guitar going on in the back. The vocal samples are also quite good. Just a damn well made Instrumental Hip Hop track! I’m not even sure if this is hip hop anymore,it’s so damn pretty. 9/10

Lucien: Polyphia - Aviator

Is this Helix Nebula by Anamanaguchi? It sounds a ton like it. :D But yes,a bunch of math rock/djent-y wankery over here. But that main melody and the solos are actually damn sweet.  This was still cheesy but I actually really liked the melodies and it was probably the catchiest song of the round. Just four good looking guys who are good at playing their instruments. (wait what) 8.5/10

Rattlehead: Pelican - The Creeper

Holy shit that’s a heavy intro. The song starts huge. The riffs the guitars and the drumming all sounds very powerful and the mixing is quite nice. The riff changes couple minutes in and there is some really nice lead work going on and then it kinda slows down again and just ends. It was a nice doomy song but was a bit too repetitive. I’m not too huge on Doom Metal but I did like this. 7.5/10

LieLowTheWantedMan: Dads - Shit Twins

Okay,a midwest emo song. You know my weakness when it comes to sad midwest emo. I fucking love this music,it feels so sincere but not whiny and just lifts my mood up. Again, this is a very sad song yet so beautiful. The instrumentation is nothing amazing but the “whiny” vocals and the lyrics just elevate this song. I’ve been meaning to check out these guys for a while and i guess now is a good time. 8.5/!0

Tom Bombadil: Soen - Delanda

I listened to their second album that came out last year and was quite impressed. This sounds a bit more like a poor man’s Tool though. The bass sound, the calmer vocals and the song structure all reminds me of Tool. But holy fuck does Lopez’s drumming make this 10 times better. He’s one of my favorite current drummers and his grooves are just tasty. Soen got way better with their second album and i am looking forward to their third album which will probably be their best work. 7.5/10

Zantera: Low Roar - I’m Leaving

Okay, this was some pretty stuff. The melodies, the Thom Yorke-ish vocals and the beautiful instrumentation just made this one of the biggest surprises of the roulette so far. I also loved the Sigur Ros-ish vibes going on. I really hope this was an album closer cause it sounds just perfect. A minor problem was that the outro was a bit overly long. But besides that, this is a nice find! 8.5/10

Rankings!

Zantera - 50
LieLowTheWantedMan - 50
Tyrias - 44
Onno - 43.5
Sacul - 41.5
Scorpion - 40
Rattlehead - 39.5
Lucien - 39.5
Tom Bombadil - 34

Solid round for everyone but Scorpion, sorry man I just hate the living shit out of that song since I hear it every fucking second. (I heard it like an hour ago) Also,Zantera and LieLow are still tied. Damn. Okay next round shall be an all out metal round. I've been getting out of metal recently as I have noticed and want to get back in with some brand new bands. Hit me up!

I'm just a casual follower, so excuse me, but I'm a bit curious here. If you receive the song you hear every single day of your life and every fucking second, and if you actually heard the song the participant sent to you literally an hour ago, why don't you just declare this song, and optionally artist, banned and ask the player to send another song?

Agreed with the comrade. The point of roulettes is to discover new music, and rating what Scorp sent you, something you're already too familiar with, seems a bit unfair to me. But you're the host, so it's up to you in the end.

Eh,you're kinda right but I didn't know it was that particular artist and I just don't like the song anyways so my rating wouldn't have changed much.

Evermind's point being probably that you could have asked Scorp to send a different song instead of choosing to rate this one. But never mind me, I'm just a casual follower here as well

I don't know if you could really call it that, but honestly I don't think I could have found anything that 1. I know and like that was also 2. not on his banned list

mostly because I know a shit ton of classical and other genres. metal doesn't interest me much anymore. I had a good mind to send him this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZtWAqc3qyk), because it's METAL AS FUCK  :metal , but it's also classical and not actually metal so instant 0/10 anyways

Round 7 Results!

LieLowTheWantedMan: The Angelic Process - The Promise Of Snakes

Holy fucking shit. This felt like being crushed in the bottom of the ocean. And it was beautiful. You know for a drone metal song, this is just some of the prettiest stuff i’ve ever heard. I’m already excited about metal again!  :D  10/10

Zantera: Birds In Row - Lovers Have Their Say

Another Drone-y Metal song! This time it’s from a Hardcore Punk/Metalcore band from Deathwish. I did have high expectations from this and yeah the song was really damn good. The wall of noise was quite simply excellent and quite simply a nice closer to this round. However I had one problem with the song and it was that the vocals were a bit too low on the mix for me. Besides that the song was quite nice if not a bit of a pain to listen to more than twice. :D Still, really really good. 9/10

Sacul: Destrage - Are You Kidding Me? No.

This was pretty damn chaotic in a Mr Bungle way. Like I’ve said before,i do enjoy Mr. Bungle here and there but too much chaos just bores me. This was one of those cases. The song was a bit too overblown which was a shame cuz the instrumentation is really damn good. But eh,I forgot about the song completely seconds after it was done. 5/10

Scorpion: Ihsahn - A Grave Inversed

I do like Emperor here and there and I’ve been meaning to check out Ihsahn’s work for a while. But holy shit this is good. The saxaphone is very King Crimson-ish and not out of place at all. The vocals are just as good as I expected and the song ended just where it needed to. The solos were just straight up “\m/“ and the rest of the instrumentation was just excellent. Damn,my favorite song of the round right here even though LieLow’s track was amazing. 10/10

Tyrias: Nightwish - Romanticide

Bleh,I never saw the appeal of Power Metal. I mean sure it’s “epic” with deep “stories” and “epic” solos and everything but to me Power Metal just sounds dime a dozen no matter which band. Sure there are couple tracks people can toss at me and that I can enjoy but I can’t listen to one full album of Power Metal. I just can’t. So yeah,my thoughts on this song are just as you people would have predicted them. Bleh. 4/10

Onno: Strapping Young Lad - Skeksis

Yeah I always get one SYL track per roulette and quite enjoy it and never return to the band ever again. I think the last song was “Love?” and i remember liking it. So here’s Skeksis. Just a ton of riffage combined with insane drumming and Devin’s insane vocals. It does get kinda stale around the end but I did enjoy it. Let’s see if I will like a complete album from SYL… 7.5/10

Rattlehead: Havok - The Cleric

There’s some damn good melodies here. Surprisingly melodic for a thrash metal track but the vocals just keep it average for me. Eh. 6/10

Tom Bombadil: Thoughts Factory - No Way Out

Okay, these guys are a DT clone. Pure and simple. They do have okay melodies and all and that keyboard solo wasn’t horrible, but I got nothing out of this song. Also holy crap that vocalist looks awkward in the clip. Think they were on tour with Haken though, good for them. I would see them as an opening act though, this is better than the horrible local black metal band opening for Karnivool. (Fuck that was a horrible gig…) 6/10

Lucien: Rob Evan/Sebastian Bach - The World Has Gone Insane

Eh,it’s a musical and I’m not huge on musicals. The singing is well done though and the guitar work is pretty good. Just not my taste but yeah I would have loved this couple years ago. This is cheesy and all but it’s on the good side of cheesy so I’ll give it more points than expected. I mean I could listen to it 5 times, that’s an accomplishment right there! 7/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 60
Zantera - 59
Onno - 51
Scorpion - 50
Tyrias - 48
Lucien - 46.5
Rattlehead - 45.5
Sacul - 41.5
Tom Bombadil - 40

FINAL ROUND!

Alright guys, this shall be the final round since I’m sure you’re mostly pretty bored of this by now. This is going to be an open round but there’s a catch. Since there’s a huge gap between the last place and the first,I’m going to add in a really dumb rule. For this round, You can send me TWO tracks. And you will be scored out of 20. BUT HERE’S A CATCH. If you send me a song that receives a perfect score, you get 5 bonus points each, making it 30 points in total if you send me 2 perfect tracks. Thus, anyone has a chance to win. Anyways, let’s go!  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

Nah,I work with Tool.

Okay the deal is,there is a 20 minute song and it's just crazy shit. (You know who you are) And I've been stuck at that track for a while now. Don't worry i'm not gonna fade out this roulette.

That feeling when you're on a prog forum and everybody sends 2 songs over 8 minutes in the last round, and you have over 12 hours of songs to listen to

FINAL RESULTS

Tyrias:
Bilderbuch - Plansch

The falsetto vocals kinda annoyed me and the second half of the song seemed very unnecessary (which also reminded me of Runaway by Kanye West) But the song itself was “okay”. Eh. 5/10

Russiand Circles - Mladek

Was never huge on these guys but this is a damn solid song. The instrumentation is just top notch and I also quite liked the entry of the guitar 4 minutes in. Pretty solid Post Rock song. 8/10

Zantera:
Cardiacs - The Everso Closely Guarded Line

Woah, this is way better than the last Cardiacs song you sent me. It is meandering and overly long, yes but it was a grower for me. Quite nice moments on this 8 minute track,I was pretty impressed. 8/10

Oceansize - Ornament, The Last Wrongs

Holy fuck. This is better than anything from Frames. Seriously one of the best songs sent this roulette. Damn was i impressed with the buildup and that crescendo. One of the best songs I got during the roulette. 10/10

Sacul:
David Macim Micic - Where Is Now

Sounds like a song off Epicloud or something but even better. The piano intro was amazing and MAN THAT VIOLIN. This is like a mix of DTP and Ne Obliviscaris sans the harsh vocals. The lady on the vocals is doing a good job though. The song kinda dragged at the end but i quite liked this. Some good obscure prog metal that doesn’t sound like an average DT clone! 8/10

Underworld - Cowgirl

I have seen the album cover somewhere but i don’t remember where. Anyways this is some mid 90s techno. This is pretty damn melodic for the early to mid 90s though which is pretty nice. Pretty enjoyable track! 7.5/10

Lucien:
Lucien - Zephyros

This was some interesting synth music. It sounds like something from a Sega Genesis RPG like Phantasy Star or something. Surprisingly it’s enjoyable to listen to this stuff. Also assuming you made this, well done man! 7.5/10

Beethoven - Symphony #5 in C Minor,Movement 4

Really enjoyable final, sounds a lot of passion went into composing this and it really does feel like it’s telling a story. I love it when music talks to me. Again, could have been a bit shorter since i’m an animal who can’t listen to classical music for too long, but this was really good. 8/10

Onno:
Shining (NOR) - RMGDN

Holy fuck, this is a Drone/Experimental Rock track. This is like if Swans was a metal band. Holy. Fucking. Shit. I don’t have any comments for this.15/10 I really hope nobody will get mad at me giving you 5 bonus points.

Ludovico Einaudi - Ancora

This should have ended at 3:40. Seriously,it would have been perfect. But the song kept on dragging and dragging and dragging and thus I was bored. Kinda weird how I got that Shining song along with this on the same round :D Damn, wish the song wasn’t this long. 6.5/10

LieLowTheWantedMan:
Tindersticks - Jism

Pretty nice organ and strings to go with that powerful baritone. I love the layers of sound spread around the verses and the song just feels very warm and sexy,i like it. 7/10

The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist

I have been listening to the entire album, holy shit is it fun to listen to. This was one of my fav tracks on first listen and it still is. But yeah, very very consistent and solid Plunderphonics and Instrumental Hip Hop album. This stuff is an absolute joy to listen to. 9.5/10

Tom Bombadil:
Puscifer - The Humbling River

Uh,decent build-up i guess but it went nowhere. Well, not much to say really. It was kinda “eh”. 5/10

Subsignal - The Size Of Light On Earth

Pretty damn good instrumental work and the chorus was pretty nice. There is a bit of cheesiness though and that kinda pushed me away but yeah it was decent. 7/10

Scorpion:
Mono - Recoil,Ignite

I was pretty slacky when Mono released two albums last year so yeah I was looking forward to listening to this. The build-up was alright but yeah the crescendo was pretty damn good and chaotic, loved it. 9/10

Novembre - Nothijngrad

I really liked the song instrumentally while listening to it but not much really stayed with me after the 4 listens. Also wasnt huge on the vocals. But yeah it was okay. 6/10

Rattlehead:
Death Cab For Cutie - Brothers On A Hotel Bed

I’ve never listened to Death Cab even though I do love The Postal Service. So yeah,Ben’s voice is really really pleasant to my ears. The percussive electronics were a nice touch and the eerie atmosphere during the song was also really nice. 8/10

Thrice - Of Dust And Nations

I feel like I’ve heard this before. The vocals are really really great and the bouncy guitar work creates a great melody. It sounds like a more Post Hardcore Dredg and I really really like that. This song was pretty damn excellent and really catchy 9/10

FINAL RESULTS!!

Zantera - 77
LieLowTheWantedMan - 76.5
Onno - 72.5
Scorpion - 65
Rattlehead - 62.5
Tyrias - 61
Lucien - 61.5
Sacul - 57
Tom Bombadil - 52

Well, looks like the winner of the epic battle was Zantera! Even though that Avalanches song was excellent,I wasn't that huge on that Tindersticks song. Zantera, even though you played it VERY safe,I guess sometimes that just works. Also special "HOLY FUCK THAT WAS AMAZING" award goes to Onno with that Shining song. Man do I wanna see them live now. I just ordered couple of their albums already so i'm waiting till they arrive!  Also,I'm sorry for being so slow with the updates, this year has easily been the busiest year of my life whether it's school or the occasional voluntary jobs. Thanks a lot for sticking with me on this one, every single one of you have introduced me to at least one band and I'm really grateful. I love all you guys nohomo and i'll see you later!  :metal

Anyways, nice you liked David's song - the best djent artist by miles! See people, the guy has a good taste after all  :lol . That Underwold album is pretty hypnotic and immersive, so be sure to give it a deep listen with headphones.

On Zephyros, there are actually two versions of the piece:

There's the version you know, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK1bkOW3f6c) which is actually a version made by a friend of mine, who took the midi file and used one of his old soundcards to get that sound out of it.

Then there's the original version, (https://musescore.com/user/100120/scores/962246) which I didn't know if you would have liked as much, made for a 10 part orchestra :P

Also Lolzeez, cool to see you ordered a few Shining albums! Did you order the vinyl version of Blackjazz? It has an extra LP full of bonus tracks, including a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man and the studio version of RMGDN :)
