How it works:
This is based off of "before and after" style clues on Jeopardy. The correct answer will be a combination of two separate things which combine to form one phrase or idea. At least one of the ideas has to be DT-related.
Example: This Dream Theater front man developed his own take on this soft, cow's milk dairy product.
Answer: What is James LaBrie cheese? (The answer is a combination of James LaBrie, and Brie cheese.)
Another example: This boxer from PunchOut listened to a SDOIT song as he constructed his new jailhouse.
Answer: What is The Glass Joe Prison?
I'll start if off with these:
$200 - This former DT keyboardist teamed up with the band Extreme to make a remix to their hit ballad.
$400 - Judas Priest teamed up with DT on their latest DVD, where he was unreasonably searched by the police.
$600 - Anthony Kiedis performed a cover of DT's most popular song to a homeless man beneath an overpass.
$800 - Dream Theater created a new medley, which combines a song from ToT and a song from Octavarium.
$1000 - Current DT drummer's guilty pleasure is a pop song from singer Christina Aguilera.
Good luck, and make your own for others to answer too!

$600- Under the Bridges in the Sky

Great work!!!
However, the $600 question is a bit off. Read the question a bit more carefully, and I'm sure you'll get it.

Wow, I must say that correctly answering this one was extremely impressive. I was thinking about what it could be for so long, to no avail. Great work!

Okay, I have to say, awesome as this idea is... It's damn hard!!!
Yes it can definitely be tough!
The fun thing about it is that it is just as fun to come up with the questions as it is to answer them.
Keep em coming everyone, I'm thinking of some more now.

I got a cryptic one: A snippet of DT lyrics, which they lifted from Rush, sung by Greg Lake.
and another: Butters Stotch's favorite DT album, alternatively, since it's basically the same idea involving a different album, but comes out nicer: Butters' favorite live album to listen to while on the road

I certainly hope it is, because I've been killing myself trying to figure this out!

Here's some more:
$200 - An NFL team gets together to watch a popular movie about football, and they watch it "over and over, scene by scene".
$400 - A fan decides to watch DT's most lowly-received DVD, and the camera movement on screen causes the fan to throw up.
$600 - While listening to one of DT's most well-received albums (on DTF, at least), a fan becomes dizzy, and has discharge from a certain part of the body.
$800 - During the live set of DT's most metal album, they decide to perform an older song about schizophrenia. (Hint: One is an album, one is a lyric)
$1000 - DT performs their hardest (most metal) song from Octavarium, and the fans oddly begin dancing like John Travolta.
DAILY DOUBLE: Mike Mangini has been acting very feminine lately...
-

Bingo! And yes, this is CiM's shining moment :D
-
$1000 - DT performs their hardest (most metal) song from Octavarium, and the fans oddly begin dancing like John Travolta.
From Octavarium? Because the only one I can think of here is The Dark Eternal Saturday Night Fever, but that song's on Systematic Chaos. Heaviest song on 8VM is Panic Attack, but I can't connect that to SNF (the first movie that comes into the mind at the mention of Travolta dancing)

For convenience, here are all of the ones which have yet to be answered:
"King Crimson's uneasy dreams have caused permanent psychological damage."
(VahVahenki had a close guess for the one above: "One More Red Nightmare to Remember?" but the question is still open as it was not exactly correct)

(I just noticed my post count as of this post is the same as this year: 2014. That is all.)

I figured "Crying" is a Ray Orbison song, and Outcry is a song about starting a revolution.

Here are the answers to some older ones of mine which have not been figured out:
$600 - While listening to one of DT's most well-received albums (on DTF, at least), a fan becomes dizzy, and has discharge from a certain part of the body.
Answer: Six Degrees Of Inner Ear Infection
DAILY DOUBLE: Mike Mangini has been acting very feminine lately...
Answer: Mike Mangina
$600 - Former DT drummer transports his drum kit from a gig in NJ, back to his home state of New York.
Answer: Mike Port Authority
$1000 - JP was driving to a gig, and the rest of the band carpooled with him. During the trip, they wrote a ballad.

What do you get when you fuse the titles of an Awake song and a Metallica song?
Hans Zimmer mixed with DT. (DT reference also on Awake)
James got inspiration for the title of this song by watching this recently finished AMC drama series.

I can honestly say I don't know the time signatures of any DT song.
Or really any song, for that matter.

But that's the problem, it's so short that most of the time it ends before I even bother listening. I just sing along and let my mind wander.

Since no one has gotten either of mine, I will give a few hints.
Dream Theater decides to write a song about dementia, pop idols, and never-ending cycles geometry.
"dementia, pop idols" refers to an animated film, "never-ending geometry" refers to a lyric from the song Octavarium.
John Petrucci and Tommy Rogers team up to write a song about a prospective origin story.
BTBAM's Parallax concept is not limited to the EP and LP duo; songs on several of their previous albums tie into the concept (thus the "prospective origin story"). One of these has a title that can be connected with a DT song. My wording of the clue was very deliberate.

At the very least, it should be obvious if a song is in simple, compound, or asymmetrical meter simply by listening to it. It is not that difficult to figure out the time signatures from there.

That is correct, though I am confused as to how it does not follow the 'before and after' format. It combines 'Perfect Blue' and 'Perfect Sphere', like the example of "The Glass Joe Prison" in the OP. Am I missing something?
-
Randaran,
I didn't say it wasn't a good question...I just wasn't confident of my answer. Technically speaking, the Jeopardy 'before and after' would be something like "Picture Perfect Sphere" but there have been plenty of non conventional clues and answers in this thread.
No worries.

Nope you're not missing anything, you got it right!
It can be a tad confusing, because "Before and After" isn't necessarily the best way to describe this game. It would be better suited as something like "Word Combination Game".
I just used Before And After because this is how the Jeopardy game is played.

Nice one!
I was totally on the wrong track there when I asked for the hints. I took "fragile", "on top" and the fact that it was a female and instantly thought about About To Crash. I was thinking of an emotionally fragile female who was on top of the world ("Even though she seems so high....when she falls out of the sky...."), but crashes back down to earth because she's, well, fragile.
