A beautifully slim banned list.

Yeah, I'll play.

Big reason I'm doing this roulette is to find new bands. I've a LOT to catch up on when it comes to rock/metal. I've only just begun to get into this style of music over the past 5 years and am trying to expand my music library. This will help some.

Thanks to all you guys signing up! One spot left. Will put out the first theme Monday morning (I'm running off Eastern Standard Time from the US, if anyone from other regions/countries were curious)

Trying to subdue me with flattery? Nice try. I'd be honored to kick your asses.

Seriously though, y'all have both won a few roulettes yourselves, not to mention Lonestar and Doc. And given the banned list, I'd be quite surprised if I did well in this roulette.

Per Lucien's request, I will put up the first round now:

Round one: Show Opener

Let's kick things off with what you consider your favorite show opener. Could be fast, slow, etc. It could also be a 2-part song, like Regression-Overture 1928, Speak To Me-Breathe, etc. For reference, my personal favorite show openers are The Glass Prison, In the Flesh?, and Bridges in the Sky. I prefer to have all entries submitted by next Friday, the 14th. Good luck!

I listen to some songs that include harsh vocals but not excessively. So I'm not opposed to them but that's not my favorite vocal style lol

I have received all 11 entries. In the interest of saving time, I will be posting the results of this round tonight instead of waiting all the way until next week. I will rank each entry from 1-11 and the higher you are on the list, the more points you are rewarded. For example, the #1 spot gets 11 points, #2 gets 10, etc. I will also post this week's theme tonight as well.

Round One Results

Even from just the first round of this I've gotten some really great music. I'm writing the rankings from #11-#1 and will put the total accumulated points at the end of each round's results.

#11: Dillinger Escape Plan- Farewell, Mona Lisa; LordCost
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-oakJEmswg

Even though it's in last place i still like the song. First few minutes is real fun. Sounds like a really fun song to mosh to. Really chaotic. Nothing too special but thats how i feel about 90% of the music that falls into this category. The second half of the song when it gets softer is really good. He has great clean vocals. Overall not a bad pick just not as strong as the others.

#10: Richard Wagner-Prelude die Meistersinger von Nurnberg; Lucien
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNDZDgNb0Dc

I was NOT expecting to recieve something like this in this roulette. Lol. Nonetheless it is a really great composition. I'm a fan of classical/symphonic music so i did really enjoy it. Was kinda hard ranking with 10 other rock/prog/metal songs but it holds up well on it's own.

#9: Ice Age- Perpetual Child; DR. DTVT
 https://grooveshark.com/#!/search/song?q=Ice%20Age%20Perpetual%20Child

Pretty good song. It's got a nice classic prog style to it. The first very few seconds reminded me of a Metallica song lol. Reminds me of the style of song I would expect to find on Images and Words or on a Rush album. Solid pick.

#8: Karmelot: March of Mephisto; Scorpion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV_94f3CsPQ

Ok this is where it got really hard to rank them. The next 3 were all pretty close. This was a great choice. I love the power behind it from the synths and drums. Feels like a song you'd hear in a climatic part of a video game. Awesome pick.

#7: Devin Townsend- Truth; mikemanjoy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NMYtIUm6pc

Only thing I've heard from Devin prior to this was his amazing rendition of Burning my soul on PN14 (controversial opinion maybe?) but this was a really great track and one that I could see opening up a concert really well. Powerful.

#6: Karnivool- Simple Boy; kingshmegland
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjvtx3HMUks

Dat bass groove intro tho. I love the flow of this song. Great melodies and vocal lines. I love the drumming in this song.

#5: Porcupine Tree- Blackest Eyes; Sacul
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh9osYZNilU

I've heard of these guys a lot but never actually checked them out. Turns out they're awesome. lol This is a really great song. The flow and feel is gorgeous. The intro riff is pretty groovin and the acoustic sections are dripping in feeling. I love the accenting the piano in the background gives to those sections. Drumming is perfect for the song. Awesome pick.

4: Wings Denied- Generation Y; Tom Bombadil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgmOYyWqpoo

Pretty hard punch in the face immediately when this song starts. The vocals in this song are awesome. One of the most unique sounding songs I've heard from this type of music. Breakdown in the middle into the softer section is fucking awesome. Great song.

3: Symphony X - Prelude & Evolution; Destiny of Chaos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXKd3iRdFWs

Another band I've heard of but never ended up checking out. The prelude is awesome. Reminds me a lot of Ghost. Main riff is pretty heavy and fun. I can hear some heavy DT influence in this song. Chorus is really powerful and uplifting. The last riff section before the outro of the song is fucking killer.

2: IQ- Frequency; lonestar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNA-6JqKsVQ

Guitar work in this song is perfect. The volume pedal guitar in the first verse kills me. I'm a sucker for that shit. The solo in the intro is really awesome as well. The overall feel and melody of this song is sublime. The synth lead in the first verse along with the guitar and vocals is perfect. Would be #1 if i didn't love the #1 song so much. Excellent choice.

#1 :Circus Maximus - Architect of Fortune; senecadawg2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__rm908F9MI

Nailed it. Absolutely LOVE this song. The heavy opening of the song is a great way to open up a show/album and the uplifting lead that follows is absolutely perfect. Reminds a lot of Breaking All Illusions and Surrender to Reason. Chorus utilizes the same section and when paired with the lyrics takes it over the edge. Verses have great power and feel. The break at the 5 minute mark is the best part of any song on this list. This song is amazing. Thank you for putting this kind of awesomeness into my life, senecadawg2.

Rankings after Round 1:
1. senecadawg2- 11
2. lonestar- 10
3. Destiny of Chaos- 9
4. Tom Bombadil- 8
5. Sacul- 7
6. kingshmegland- 6
7. mikemanjoy- 5
8. Scorpion- 4
9. DR. DTVT- 3
10. Lucien- 2
11. LordCost- 1

Great start to the roulette. Now on to round 2:

Round Two: DAT GROOVE

Title says it all. Send me a riff based song that has just a slammin grooved oriented riff. My favorite riffs fall into this category. Main riffs of Bridges in the Sky and The Enemy Inside, Caught in a Web, Lie, MAKE TOTAL DESTROY by Periphery, Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold, and a bunch of others. The riffs can be on 6 string guitars, but my favorites normally end up being 7 string songs.

Send away and good luck!

Sorry for the delay, but nonetheless: Round Two Results

This was a really great round. I liked every song sent my way at least a little.

#11: Rhapsody in Blue-George Gershwin; Lucien
Another peculiar choice. Lol I liked the piano solo in the middle, but this wasn't really what I was looking for, hence its placement. Still good though!

#10: Interstellar-Amplifier; LordCost
It was pretty hard ranking them from here till the 5th spot cuz I really like all of them. This one has a great groove throughout. It felt a little repetitive at times, but I enjoyed it overall.

#9 Flaming Row- Rage of Despair; Scorpion
This one has a great heavy groove to it. Great power and energy in this song. It sounds like there's a male and female vocalist in the band? I might be wrong but that's what I hear. If it's just a female vocalist and she does the screaming then that's double awesome lol.

#8: Thunder Kiss '65- White Zombie; DR. DTVT
Well, you're right about the groove being awesome. Thick groove that flows throughout the entire song. Real nice flow to the song. The vocals are eh, but I still enjoyed it.

#7: Addict- Destiny Potato; mikemanjioy
I Mean that's just an awesome band name. Lol this is one of 2 Destiny Potato songs I received this round. I really like their sound and this song has got an awesome flow to it. Vocals are great, riffs are great, djent is djenty. I hear a strong Periphery influence in this one. Great choice.

#6: Soft Bomb Salad-I Mother Earth; kingschmegland
I love the flow to this song. It's such a great flow and the guitar that kicks in around 3:30 is really groovy.

#5: In Memoriam- Haken; Sacul
I remember seeing The Mountain on JP's, JR's, MP's and JLB's top 10 lists of last year so I checked out a few songs. I LOVED Pareidoilla and liked Cockroach King. This is another really great song off that album that I hadn't listened to before this round. Think I'm gonna have to buy this album, cuz these guys are awesome.

#4: Love Song-Destiny Potato; Tom Bombadil
The better of the 2 DP songs of this round, this one has an awesome riff and flow. The part around 3:55 is amazing. I'm gonna have to check this band out too. They sound really promising.

#3: No Way Out-Thoughts Factory; lonestar
The next 3 are super close in ratings. This one has an AWESOME opening riff and it's just an overall awesome song. HUGE DT influence. The keyboard solo sounds like one of JR's patches. Great choice.

#2: The Morning Light-Voyager; senecadawg2
The beginning....Is that....is that The TERMINATOR?? Lol it has the exact same pattern as the Terminator theme. The main riff is killer. Love the chorus in this song and the overall feel of the song. Really powerful and uplifting.

#1: Halo-Machine Head; Destiny of Chaos
Nailed it. This song is fucking awesome. Heavy, groovy, powerful. Exactly what I was looking for.  The minute long buildup into the main in the beginning is worth the payoff. Vocals kind of remind me of a heavier Adrenaline Mob. The chorus is really awesome and the breakdown a little after the middle of the song is killer. Excellent pick.

Roulette Standings thus far:

1. senecadawg2-21
2. Destiny of Chaos-20
3. lonestar- 19
4. Tom Bombadil-16
5. Sacul-14
6. kingschmegland-12
7. mikemangioy-10
8. Scorpion/ DR. DTVT-7
10. Lucien/LordCost-3

Round Three: THE JUGGERNAUT
Title says it all. Send me the heaviest shit you got. My favorite heavy songs are The Glass Prison, Bridges in the Sky, As I Am, Caught In A Web, Lie, and The Enemy Inside (DT), Zyglrox, The Walk, and MAKE TOTAL DESTROY (Periphery), (sic), Eyeless and Sarcastrophe (Slipknot, among countless others from Metallica and other bands from my banned list.  I was a metal fan before I was a prog fan, so I like me some heavy. I want songs with such balls they blow my dick off. MAKE IT HAPPEN. You have until Tuesday next week.

You're a horrible person for rating Rage of Despair so low.  There are actually 7 vocalists in that song (4 male, 3 female) if I recall correctly.

And, I'm just razzin ya btw.  I don't truly know if you're a horrible person or not.  You're at DTF, so I'll err on the side of "not"

Alright. Round 3 results:

#11: Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No 5 in D minor, Op. 47 IV.Allegro non troppo; Lucien
Dude, I don't know if you're being sincere with these picks or not but you're gonna lose if you keep sending them.

#10:Meshuggah - Straws Pulled at Random; Tom Bombadil
It's definitely heavy, but I'm not a huge fan of Meshuggah honestly. Not a whole lot of fun to listen to.

#9: Nevermore- Born; Scorpion
Love the band name but not the song xD just like Straws Pulled At Random, I like it and al, but it's nothing too special for me. Solid heaviness but overall just meh.

#8: Gojira- Toxic Garbage Island; mikemangioy
Solid. Heavy and fun to listen to.

#7: Amorphis - Silver Bride; Dr. DTVT
Not really all that heavy, but i really enjoyed this song.

#6: Devin Townsend - Universe in a Ball; Sacul
I'm really liking what I'm hearing of Devin Townsend. He's pretty great musician. This was a great song and real fun to listen to. The main riff is SICK.

#5: Pain Of Salvation - Beyond The Pale; senecadawg2
I really liked the sound of this song. it flowed fairly well and I liked the riffing in the second half of the song.

#4: Ancestors - Whispers; kingschmegland
As you said, very Pink Floyd-esque. Really enjoyed it. Makes me wonder how PF would sound if they made a song like this xD great choice.

#3: The Project Hate MCMXCIX - The Bleeding Eyes of a Breeding Whore; Destiny of Chaos
This song is a lot of fun. Love the dynamics of the vocalists and the harsher vocals are awesome. Real heavy, real groovin. Awesome pick.

#2: Leprous - Forced Entry; LordCost
Very Haken like. Loved it. Reminded me a lot of Paredoilla and Cockroach King. Decently heavy. I really enjoy this style of progressive metal. Heavy, but more laid back and more focused on flow than heaviness.

#1: Destrage "Destroy Create Transform Sublimate" ; lonestar
Nailed it. This song is fucking AWESOME. The vocals are a little iffy sometimes but the instrumentation is just fucking epic. The verses remind me of Been Caught Stealing by Jane's Addiction a little bit. The drumming is some Matt Halphern (Periphery) level shit. Awesome choice.

Roulette Standings So Far:
1. lonestar- 30
2. Destiny of Chaos-29
3. senecadawg2-28
4. Sacul/kingschmegland-20
6. Tom Bombadil-18
7. mikemangioy-14
8. LordCost/DR. DTVT-12
10. Scorpion-10
11. Lucien-4

Round Four: Drumavarium

Send me a song with a KILLER drum part. I am a drummer myself and particularly love drummers that can follow the pattern of the other instruments while accenting the riffs perfectly and make it super interesting. My favorite drummers (in no order) are Marco Minnemann, MM, MP, Matt Halphern, Justin Beiber, and John Bonham. My favorite drum tracks include Dance of Eternity, The Great Debate, Blind Faith, Outcry, Illumination Theory, Under A Glass Moon (Score version), MAKE TOTAL DESTROY, Ragnarok, The Walk, Zyglrox, basically anything Marco Minnemann, and Moby Dick. Let's see what we can get!

I'm completely sincere but you obviously really don't like classical music. The piece I sent you is AWESOME, and I've got 9.5/10 with that piece before.

And I'm REALLY bad at finding good drum parts in songs so we'll see if I get anywhere instead of #11 this time  :lol

I've heard (and love) Beyond the Pale, and I found it to be quite the peculiar choice in a round where the judge was asking for "The heaviest shit you got".

Yeah  :lol definitely not the most appropriate for the theme. No way was I going to send the heaviest song I have though, that almost certainly wouldn't have gone over well. I was just trying to find a some sort of balance between heaviness and accessibility. Also, in terms of tone and lyrical content, I think Beyond the Pale is veeerrry heavy.

No argument. The song is heavy with meaning, especially within the context of the album's concept.

The Silent Man is one of my top 20 DT songs. I love those types of songs, but only if they're not boring melodies.

Alright alright alriiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Round 4 Results:

#11: Faith No Mre-Epic; DR. DTVT
Eh. It's a decent song but nothing too special about, particularly drum wise. Drums fit the part but aren't all that standout -ish.

#10: Tool- The Grudge; LordCost
Good solid song but I've heard better from Tool. Drumming is solid.

#9: Devin Townsend-Grace; Lucien
The sonic power to this song is just awesome. Really moving tune. Solid drumming, just nothing too special.

#8: Sieges Even - Leftovers; kingschmegland
I really loved the melody and sound of this song. it flows great.

#7: Opeth- The Grand Conjugation; Destiny of Chaos
I really enjoyed this song. Some of the cymbal work pretty cool and the snare/bass groove in the intro is really cool (and is also the same rhythm as 30 Seconds to Mars' "Battle of One" lol).

#6: Queensrÿche - Anarchy-X / Revolution Calling; Sacul
Only thing I've ever listened to from Queensryche is the Comfortably Numb cover with DT. I rather enjoyed this song(s?) though. The drumming complements the song very well and the song itself is pretty cool.

#5: Tool -Lateralus; Senecadawg2
Next 5 were really hard to rank. All excellent examples of drumming. This was a really good song and I particularly loved the hi hat work around the 5:50 mark. A lot of the fills were pretty tight too.

#4: Frost*-Hyperventilate; lonestar
Firstly, the piano work in this song is outstanding. Such a great melody laid down throughout and the intro is amazing. This whole piece is really spectacular and I love the flow of it throughout. The drumming is awesome as well.

#3: The Human Abstract- Patterns; Scorpion
Awesome drumming from the first second with the small fill to open the song. Really interesting and cool song and some of the guitarist's solo work is pretty insane.

#2; Genesis- Riding the Scree; Tom Bombadil
I've listened to some of "Lamb Lies Down.." previously and I really love Cuckoo Cocoon off of it. This song is great as well and I had no idea Phil Collins was such an awesome drummer. The groove and power he put behind this song is incredible.

#1: Haken- Darkest Light; mikemanjioy
Man I'm seriously LOVING what I'm hearing from Haken. They're such an awesome band and this song is probably the best I've heard so far. The drumming, especially in the instrumental, is AWESOME. I really love their vocalist too. These guys are awesome.Great pick.

Roulette Standings as of Round 4:
1. lonestar- 38
2. senecadawg2-35
3. Destiny of Chaos-34
4. Tom Bombadil-28
5. Sacul- 26
6. mikemangioy-25
7. kingschmegland-24
8. Scorpion-19
9. LordCost-14
10. DR. DTVT-13
11. Lucien-7

Quite a bit of changes in the standings this round, but lonestar's still in the lead.

Round Five: The Clover
The Instrumental round! Since this is a DT forum, I'm assuming everyone knows why I named this round that ;) Send me your favorite instrumental. I love complicated, intelligent ones like Dance of Eternity and When the Water Breaks (My 2 favorite of all time), but also laid back, melody driven ones like Hell's Kitchen, Eve, One of These Days by Pink Floyd or Genesis by Ghost. Riff driven ones like Ytse Jam and Enigma Machine can be awesome (YJ) if they're interesting, but some (EM) have awesome, fun riffs, but are pretty boring. Send away!

Round Four Results:

Ok. This was an AWESOME round. So much good music was sent my way. It was really fucking hard to rank this time around so in two cases I had to result in a tie. That makes the lowest score a 9 instead of an 11. Great round everyone!

#9: Aisles-Hero; kingschmegland
Because even when all the music is awesome, there has to be a last place. This was a very unique song. I liked the flow of it and how open it felt. The change in tempo and feel at 1:36 is really awesome. Overall a solid pick.

#8: DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt; Sacul
I love hip-hopish instrumental stuff like this. It's got a nice groove and feel to it. The little break around the 2:55 mark is really awesome.

#7: The Enid- Tripping the Light Fantastic; Lucien
This was a really cool piece. I've just begun getting into symphonic metal with bands like Nightwish and this was a really cool example of combining the styles of symphonic music and metal together to create a unique, refreshing feel. The flow of the song is awesome and has some really standout parts. Great choice.

#6: Buckethead- The Hills of Eternity; Scorpion
The melody of this song is flatout awesome. It feels a tad bit repetitive at times but I love the flow of it. It's got a great sonic quality to it and it just soars. Great choice.

#5: Circus Maximus- Biosfear; Destiny of Chaos
Ok. This band is fucking AWESOME. I'm loving what I've heard from them so far. Great new discovery. This song is one of those great discoveries. Very heavy DT influence I hear, including parts that sound like they're straight out of TDoE and Beyond This Life. interesting arrangement and just fun to listen to.

#4 TIE: Scale the Summit- Odyssey; DR. DTVT
First tie. This song comes off strong and has some really awesome sections. The part at :30 makes me smile so hard. LOVE it. The sudden softer section at 1:45 is really sweet and unexpected. Great instrumental.

#4 TIE: Porcupine Tree-Wedding Nails; mikemangioy
Another really awesome discovery. Everything I've heard from this band has been perfect and this is no exception. They write some truly awesome guitar and keyboard arrangements and riffs. The riff at 1:47 is SICK. Opening/main riff is fun as hell and catchy. Really great instrumentation in this song. Fucking rules.

#3: Agaloch- Sowilo Rune; senecadawg2
A gorgeously mellow song. This one's rhythm on acoustic guitars behind the piano soloing softly is amazing. It's a very gorgeous song and its flow feels very much like a journey.

#2: Pomegranate Tiger- Mountains in the Sky; lonestar
Oh man, I so got this fucking round.
SO CLOSE  The opening 2 minutes are awesome and then it just gets fucking BRUTAL. Some pretty heavy riffs start happening and the groove is insane. Awesome power behind this song.

#1 TIE: Triumph of Irreality- Tom Bombadil
I've heard a song off of this album but I can't remember what it was. Anyways, this is a brilliant song. The piano intro is gorgeous and optimistic and is a great lead into the full band. The main melody carries that same optimistic feel throughout the song and it's just a virtuostic powerhouse. The piano behind the spoken word parts are perfect for the context. The guitar and keyboard back and forth riff at 1:30 is amazing. Everything about this song is amazing. Great choice.

#1 TIE: Anathema- Hindsight; LordCost
Another gorgeously laid out song. The melody is very surreal and makes me super happy and super nostalgic at the same time. Reminds me of the happiest parts of my life. That's the feeling this song conveys to me and I absolutely adore it. The guitar soloing is phenomenal and it just soars over the rhythm. Absolutely phenomenal.

Roulette Standings after Round Five:
1. lonestar: 48
2. Senecadawg2: 43
3. Destiny of Chaos: 41
4.Tom Bombadil: 39
5. mikemangioy: 33
6. Sacul: 30
7. kingschmegland: 27
8. Scorpion/LordCost:25
10. DR. DTVT: 21
11. Lucien: 12

lonestar, Seneca and Destiny are still holding strong but Tom's coming up take them all down it looks like;)

Round Six: The Calm Before the Storm
Title will make sense next round. This round I'm looking for your favorite mellow/acoustic/ballad/etc song. Anything from acoustically driven to piano driven to just any softer styled song. Good examples are Space Dye Vest, Spirit Carries On, Comfortably Numb, Time, Brain Damage, Beneath the Surface, etc. Killer solos like in TSCO and Comfortably Numb are MUCH appreciated. Have fun and good luck!

Hella sweet, and no shame to finishing second behind those two songs, they're brilliant.

I'll figure out something to send in the next day or two....see if I can make this lead un-breachable.

Hey guys I apologize about the delay. I've just recently gotten a second job and have been busy nonstop. I will not be able to fully listen to all entries and score them until this Friday. I apologize for the inconvenience. The next round will last 2 weeks, ending on Monday, January 5th to make up for this time, to give a break for during the holidays, and for a third reason that I will divulge when the round theme is premiered.

Hey, everyone. I apologize about me taking so long to post the results but I will absolutely have them up tomorrow afternoon, if not tonight. In the meantime, I will give you all the next theme:

Round Seven: The Storm

Epic time! Self explanatory; send me your favorite epic. Now, an epic has a different meaning to everyone it seems, in terms of what songs classify as one. In this round, I'm classifying any song 18 minutes or above as an epic, with all of its musical passages fully realized and is a monumental piece of music. Songs like Illumination Theory, 8VM, Count of Tuscany, and Duel With the Devil by Transatlantic are great examples, and are also my favorites in this category.

Other 10-16 min songs like Outcry, The Glass Prison, Breaking All Illusions, etc are all epic sounding and are shining examples of musical achievement, but I wouldn't classify them as an epic.

One more after this folks. Make it count!

Really sorry about the delay but FINALLY:

Round Six Results:

#11: Pyramid Theorem-Another Day Slips By; Scorpion
I enjoyed the acoustic guitar at the beginning but overall this song was just average for me. It's not bad but it's just not something I'd listen to a lot.

#10: Oceansize- Servant; LordCost
Intro and outro in this song are awesome. Really beautiful. The rest is fairly adequate, however. Once again not a bad song, but nothing particularly special imo.

#9: Ben Folds Five- Brick; kingschmegland
Really depressing song topic that was turned into a beautiful but ominescent piece of music. They come across great live too. The piano playing is very nice.

#8: Anathema- Untouchable, Pt. 1; Sacul
Better than the other Anathema song sent my way in a different round. I watched a live clip of it and they are pretty awesome live. The guitar melody in the beginning of the song is amazing and I love their singer's voice. Really good song overall.

#7: Opeth- In My Time of Need; mikemanjioy
This is the second time I've heard a song from this band in this roulette and I'm really enjoying what I've heard so far. This one has a great melody and a great overall sound. The topic is something several of my closest friends have dealt with at one point so it's a impactful song for me. They convey the emotion of the song superbly with the lyrics and instruments. Great song.

#6: David Gray- Please Forgive Me; senecadawg2
This is a really great song. The drummer is amazing in this song. The piano and overall feel is very Coldplay like, except in a more musical and mature way. Very fun listen.

#5: Hardline- In the Hands of Time; jingle.joy, in place of DR. DTVT
Another song with a great melody. The guitar work is phenomenal. I had no idea Journey's guitarist was so good. Very 90s feeling, in vocal style and instrumental style. Great song.

#4: Porcupine Tree- In Formaldehyde; Tom Bimbaldi
Procupine Tree is awesome. End of story. Steven Wilson's a musical genius. The rest of the band is amazing as well. This was probably my least favorite out of the 3 I've been sent so far, but it's still #4 on this list so that should tell you it's still awesome.

#3: Shadow Gallery- Ghost of a Chance; Destiny of Chaos
Next 3 were all really close. The melody of this one reminds me of Good Will Hunting and that's not a bad thing. This song is gorgeous. The melody is rich in emotion. The arpeggios over the synth lead toward the end is amazing. A really great pick.

#2: Blind Melon- Change; lonestar
Wow. The melody of this song is..wow. Such a charming song with such optimism and emotion. I really love the lyrics and how they relate to how you have to change for you life to become great and not stay stagnant in whatever shitty place it's in. I love the positivity in the message. Wonderful song.

#1: Storm Corrosion- Storm Corrosion; Lucien
Once again: Steven Wilson is a fucking musical genius and Mikael Akerfeldt is right there with him. This is a perfect song. The melody the lyrics the EVERYTHING is just exactly what I was looking for. Nailed it. Great job.

I will post the standings once I get to a computer, but here is Round Seven just in case you missed it:

I do have to say I'm very pleased that the Blind Melon song got to you, it's always a special pleasure to see someone else take to a very personal song for me in such a way. The theme of the song is very ironic considering the lead singer and vocalist was in the throws of a brutal heroin addiction which he later succumbed to, a tragic loss for the music world.

Relistening to all of them to reaffirm my selections and will
Have my results on Wednesday, if not tomorrow. Only reason I'm behind on this one (and all of them, really) is due to my work and school schedule preventine me from being punctual, and also I want to make sure I've given every sog a fair chance so I don't make a hasty decision on them.

So I now ask everyone: how has this Roulette been for you guys? I'm a complete ameteur at this and know I haven't conducted this all too well, but I would love some constructive feedback should I decide to do this again. How can I improve? I know for starters more communication in between rounds, lengthier reviews, and following my deadlines would all help. What are your guys' opinions?

OK. FINALLY.

Round Seven Results
My favorite song of all time is Octavarium, an epic, so naturally I was excited for this round. Epics are usually my favorite because the length of the song allows for complete exploration of a theme, and there's usually several interesting ones per epic. That and because I usually just like them the best lol. This round was a great one with a lot of great tunes sent my way. I like every single one, whether you're #11 or #1.

DR. DTVT failed to send me a song, so instead of delaying this any further I shall disqualify him from this round. Sorry.
Also, 2 contestants happened to send the exact same song, so another spot will be removed. That makes this a top 9 list instead of a top 11. Instead of taking away the 10 or 11 point wins for 1st and 2nd place, I will take off the 1 and 2 point scores for 10th and 11th place, meaning the lowest you can get is 3 instead of 1!

So without further or do....

#9: The Tea Club- Firebars; LordCost
This one was very interesting. Much different than what I'm used to in the epic department. The piano break around the 11 min mark is wonderful, and from there through the ending of the song is definitely the highlight. Wonderful lead melody. I really enjoyed their singer's voice. It seriously reminds me of another vocalist but for the life of me i can't think of his name. His voice compliments this type of music really well. Solid pick.

#8: Stravinsky's - The Rite of Spring; Lucien
Seriously chaotic piece in the string department. like how do you? Why do you? WAHT EVEN??

Really cool symphony. I'm not a symphonic or orchestral instrument player, but i have to imagine something like this is REALLY hard to play for 33 min. So much air/endurance. Props to those musicians. I'll be honest, at first I saw the word "Spring" and immediately thought this was Vivaldi's "La Primavera" so I was like "well damn EVERYONE knows this song"  :lol Don't get me wrong on continually placing these types of pieces so low on the list. I do enjoy them and classical music. It's just that I like other genres more :P

#7: Genesis- Supper's Ready; Tom Bombadil
One of very few Genesis songs I've heard. Love Cuckoo Cocoon off Lamb Lies Down.... and enjoyed Riding the Scree off the same album you sent me for the drumming round. This one is probably better than Scree, but I prefer Cuckoo over it just for it's simplistically wonderful melody and atmosphere. This one is an enjoyable listen still. The whole beginning before the full band kicks in is in that same wonderful style as Cuckoo, as in calm, mellow with just atmospheric instrumentation and vocals. Very clean feeling. Overall I don't think Genesis is too much my style, but I still enjoy some of their music, including this song.

#6: Karmakanic- A Message From the Heart; kingschmegland
DAT BASS THO. You're right, the bass patterns in this song are something else. i also really enjoy the soloing the guitarist does throughout. This is a talented group of folks right here.
Anyways, this song also has a great melody. Great lyrics, instrumentation, vocals, everything. Very interesting and engaging song.

#5: Obsidian Kingdom - Mantiis: An Agony in Fourteen Bites; Sacul
I very nearly made a 5 way tie at this point. This was VERY difficult to decide from here on out. At 46 minutes, this was the longest epic sent my way. And it was REALLY interesting. This made for a great listen. Lots of interesting themes and rites of music in this 14 part epic. I think I'd say Not Yet Five is my favorite section. It opens the epic perfectly and is gorgeously serene. Wonderful music.

#4: Seventh Wonder- The Great Escape; Senecadawg2/Scorpion
This guy's voice is amazing. The acoustic opening and closing of this song is to die for. Dripping with emotion. It's truly wonderful. When the orchestral instruments kick in at 1:40 it gives the song a truly "epic" feel to it. Like it's the score to an adventure movie. Wonderfully orchestrated. The instrumental sections scattered through the song is where this band truly shines. Some real interesting stuff going on here. The solo at 18 min is  :hefdaddy Amazing song.

#4: Symphony X- The Odyssey; Destiny of Chaos
This actually was my first #1 for the round, as it was the first song I heard and had a hard time believing anything would beat it, cu this one is AWESOME.
Round Seven: The Storm

What can be more epic than a song based on a famous epic poem???!?!?!?

Enjoy!   :metal

Symphony X - The Odyssey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCGgcX3wfA
It is epic in every sense of the word. Powerful symphony and melodies VERY reminiscent of SDOIT Overture to open the song. It takes you through the story of the famous epic very well and the instrumentation throughout is top notch. The only album I own from SX is Iconoclast (which is awesome btw), but I will definitely be ordering this album as well. Sick song.

#2: Silent Memorial- Retrospective; lonestar
AHA YOU DIDNT WIN THIS TIME
You came close though, cuz this song is AWESOME. It's very DT like imo and the instrumentation is fucking great. Mediterranean acoustic at 1:40, epicness of a long but interesting instrumental section for the middle section of the song, sick opening and outro. Seriously. The main instrumental is over 8 minutes long and none of it is boring. That's the sign of an awesome song.

#1: Porcupine Tree- Anesthetize; mikemanjioy
Wait. What's this? ANOTHER Porcupine Tree that's beyond amazing? How shocking!
:lol This band is wonderful and this is the best song I've heard yet. EXCELLENT. Very Pink Floyd reminiscent mixed with some pretty heavy riffing. Some of the lyrics are...weird... but overall it's an outstanding song. Perfect pick dude.

Roulette Standings After Round Seven:

#1: lonestar- 68
#2: Destiny of Chaos- 59
#3: Senecadawg2- 56
#4: Tom Bombadil- 51
#5: mikemanjioy- 49
#6: Sacul- 41
#7: kingschmegland- 36
#8: Scorpion- 34
#9: LordCost- 30
#10: DR. DTVT- 28
#11: Lucien- 27

Unless lonestar gets dead last and Destiny gets 1st place, we have a winner  It's a possibility, but if the past 7 rounds are an indicator, I don't see it happening.

And now, the final round...

Round Eight: Encore
Let's close this out with everyone's favorite song. Send me whatever song you want. Your favorite song, a song you think I'll love, a song to boost your points etc. It's all up to you. This round (and roulette) will end Monday, January 12th, and I will do everything in my power to make sure everything is posted that day. Good luck!

Oh.  Tough to pick my favorite song since they are on your banned list.
What song, out of curiosity?

Oh and congrats  Lonestar. It's safe to rest your starters now.

Nah, I think I'll let MadBum finish.....

Ok, gotta think about this one. My favorite song is from a band already sent, and I'd like to keep sending you new stuff. Either way, I'll send something tomorrow morning.

Edt- sent

Fuck yeah Anesthetize is the shit. Also, you'd do the right thing buying The Odissey, that's one heck of a record.

I expected the last place, but at least The Tea Club had some visibility here  :-\ (their 2012 album is really high on Progarchives despite being an unknown band).
Sent for the last round!

I could have swore I sent something.  Maybe you missed in in your PM's, I've honestly done that myself.  The funny thing is I think I sent "The Great Escape" as well...or at least strongly considered it.

No matter, people keep resending PT and other bands to you, so (some of) the players keep failing the host.  He's not going to discover new bands if you keep sending the same ones in.  I haven't seen so many Mizzl's since Mizzl was here.

Also sent.

I don't agree your statement. If the host is enjoying the song, the goal is reached IMO.

Well, the goal of this is to discover new music, thus although sending the same artists several times might give him an idea of their variety, I'd prefer to send new bands, so he can expand his musical tastes.

I agree with Doc and Sacul. I once, unknowingly, resent a band that had done well in a previous round and won. I didn't feel bad about it since I hadn't caught the error, but it felt like a really lame way to win the round.

ETA: obviously that doesn't really apply if the band has undergone a big lineup change and has a completely new sound and songwriting process.

I have made a point to send different bands as well, but also try and suggest other songs from bands I've already sent that may have not fit the theme but that I felt should be heard.

I see what you're saying DTVT and I like the idea of a different band every time, but with 8 rounds and 11 contestants, that's 88 bands. If every now and then another song from the same band is sent my way and is great, I won't mind at all.

And I looked up and down my PMs several times and rechecked the names several times to make sure I ddin't miss it and it was not there.

While we wait for this round/roulette to end, I will post a couple different lists pertaining to this round throughout the week, starting with:

Top 5 bands discovered from this roulette:
1. Circus Maximus (Architect of Fortune started this one and immediately made me love this band. Thanks Seneca for sending this!)
2. Porcupine Tree (Blackest Eyes and Anesthetize are masterful songs, and I've just recently picked up In Absentia and it's great.)
3. Haken (I knew of them but didn't really listen to them. These guys are awesome!)
4. Destiny Potato (Dat Djent tho)
5. Symphony X (Also knew of them but never listened to them. Iconoclast is a killer album)

Sorry been away, as usual.  >:( 2 jobs + school=no free time whatsoever. I appreciate everyone being understanding about not meeting my own deadlines. I am unable to write up all 11 reviews at the moment. I regrettably will have to wait just a tad longer. I will try to get this up tomorrow night. again, sorry about the inconvenience .

Thank you ALL for participating. I appreciate your efforts to send me great music every week, and for putting up with my annoyingly awful timing. I've discovered some incredible music through you guys. It's truly incredible how much music is out there, and how much of it is amazing. Music is the most important part of my life, so finding new material that makes me feel a wide range of emotions is absolutely wonderful, and a lot of songs sent my way did just that. Thank you all so much, and I hope your 2015 is going well so far. Rock on dudes  :metal

I've been kind of an ass playing it safely in this one, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Anyways, I'm glad that you enjoyed your roulette so much, and I'm glad I was part of it  :tup

Add another notch to my roulette bedpost... :RJ:

Fun game bud, and don't trip about the pace, I have yet to see someone do a well scheduled and ran roulette. Life always gets in the way somewhere.
