Well, besides the great drum sound, it is a great video to show how technical yet very groovy Mike is.

Thx for posting! I love MM and how spiritual and deep he can get sometime.
"It's alot of fun playing fast, it's just FUN! Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii".
:lol Do anyone really need another explanation?
-
Something's not right with the audio. I've got it blasting and I can't hear anything.
And I already checked other videos and they're fine.
Anyone else who can't hear the audio?
-
.
Anyone else who can't hear the audio?
Me neither
-
Yea the audio is very low but I can hear it though.
-
Yes, unfortunately the volume is very low, but if you turn up your speakers hopefully you'll get to a decent volume level.
-
So it seems he has cut his hair. :)
Nah, wait, my fault. This is at least 3 years old.
-
They should do something like the last pattern in the next album. Amazing limb independence!
-
Really interesting video, thanks for posting it! I can definitely hear the audio, but I had to almost double my usual headphone volume on my laptop.
-
9:15 WTF :rollin
-
The overhead shot of him doing those crossovers doesn't even look humanly possible!!! :rollin
-Marc.
-
Yea that's quite a workout he got there. :lol
-
His accuracy and his sense of groove during the most intense moments are what truly amaze me. He always keeps the rhythm locked down no matter how technical the pattern gets.
I'ma just go ahead and call him Mike Machiney from now on.
-
Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
The look on that kid's face in the audience says it all.

Yeah i guess i had a similar look when watching the video :lol
-
That was a very different solo, much less technical in a way, more groove. Great vid.
-
That groove needs to be in more DT music.
-
Re the volume of this video, I'm so glad it's not just me having problems there. I thought it was a problem with my headphones. I had everything right up and I could only really hear the drumming, and even then not at a truly desirable level.
-
Once again :
I really love Mangini as a person. I admire and recognise his technical skill and he 100% deserves to be in DT .
However - his solos bore me to tears.
Even as a drummer myself and as someone who did a three year music degree - I can't find anything to enjoy apart from the fact that it's technically flawless.
Musically it does 0 for me on any level.
-
That's how I feel about drum solos in general. I love drums, I dream to be a drummer, but drum solos are BORING.
I'd comment on the video, but I couldn't hear it...
-
Weird, when I watch this on my mobile, the volume is ok. When I watch this through my computer, the volume is really low.
Here is the shorter version that includes my favorite part.

Fark...............just switched back to my music without adjusting volume and launched myself into space
-
The volume on this was way too low for me to enjoy.
-
He's got a big one. There's no doubt about it.
-
Yeah, the volume was low but MM's personality makes up for it. He is definitely a very unique individual and has instructor type qualities.

 as much as I love mikes personality even blasting my headphones the audio was still unfortunately too low :(
-
I actually got decent volume by turning my computer volume all the way up then turning my speakers all the way up.

I hadn't seen this before...

Thx for posting! 2:10! :metal

Time stamp of that? ;D

6:10! :)

Ok, let's compare MM to this guy here. What do you think?

-
^ way too busy for me personally. I'm not hugely fond of drums as a lead instrument.
-
I think Matt Lynch (video above) is amazing. And so is Matt Garstka (from Animals as Leaders).
What impresses me about a drummer is how creative he is. I mean, given a guitar lick (or any harmonic instrument lick or phrase), how he adds to the melody, how he orchestrates the syncopation.
I love drums as lead instrument. I wish I was creative enough to do that!
-
Yes, the video of MM playing Lost not Forgotten is also amazing.
Why is he using a laptop there? What is it for?

Why is he using a laptop there? What is it for?
Probably for the backing track, and maybe a click track?
-
Why would he need that during a live performance?

Why would he need that during a live performance?
To stay cued up with the visual effects and lighting.

If the question is in reference to the Lost Not Forgotten video posted a page back, he'd need the laptop because it was at a clinic and the rest of the band wasn't there. The laptop (or it actually looks kinda like a tablet or at least a touch screen of some sort) would be playing the audio file of the rest of the band.
There are various ways to do this with various programs, the simplest way it to pan the click track all the way to one side of the audio file, pan the band to the other side and split the audio signal coming out of the computer into two different channels on his little mixer he has with him. The click channel is for his ears only and the band channel gets pushed out to the front of house.
-
Oh, yeah. Sorry about that, I just meant "in general."
-
It's not weird to see a drummer with a laptop live nowadays.

Or any band. It's getting quite boring actually.
