Congratulations, DT! I'm also really happy for Transatlantic, Andrew Latimer as well as Rick Wakeman, although I didn't see it coming for his event to win the category.

Well, okay, but have you ever agreed with anything?  Like, ever?  :lol

It's prog. It's disagreeable by nature.

Little-known fact, I always post with my arms crossed standing at the back of the room.

I must admit, when I first saw that they'd won (I was following it live on Twitter), I was a bit surprised, considering their album came out last year. But then, they have spent this whole year touring, so it's not like they haven't done anything in 2014. And the album came out at the very start of this "awards cycle", only a week or two after the 2013 Prog Awards.

Congratulations Dream Theater!

Peter Gabriel is Prog God :hefdaddy
This is awesome, although I wouldn't exactly call prog the music Gabriel's been doing for what, twenty years?  :lol

One of my favorite artists nowadays, for sure.

I have the creeping suspicion that the "Anthem" award was specifically created so they can write "Anthem: Anathema, Anathema" :lol

At any rate, I feel they were much more deserving of this award than Transatlantic was of Album of the Year.

Absolutely. Anathema and Peter Gabriel were the two nominations I agreed with.

Kaleidoscope is IMO the last on the list of transatlantic albums. Can't see why they picked it as aoty. And if the mountain was in the same category is even more ridiculous.

Isn't it a bit... early?

Great for DT, but yeezus, it's still summer.

What does that matter?  It's not necessarily calendar year, anyway.  For example, the Emmys (awards for best TV shows) are in August.  The Oscars (film) are in February or March.  The Grammys (music) are normally in January.

And really who cares about these awards.  It probably was voted by two nerds, a writer who couldn't get a job at a newspaper and some fans like us who post our thoughts on the interwebs 24/7.

I think I just called myself out......

Yeah, for me The Mountain should have won by a country mile, Kaleidoscope is fine but it's not that great. I'm also not really sure what DT have done to warrant band of the year, but I guess they're popular enough in prog circles to get lots of votes.

And yes, all of these awards are for roughly the last year (so, like August to July or something), not the calendar year.
