Post by: bout to crash on May 03, 2009, 09:59:34 PM: I was going to post these in the emo fight thread, but there are just so many (almost four Photobucket pages, goddamn) and it deserves its own space.

For those who don't remember/weren't around, last summer my friend/neighbor Ken, in the middle of a conversation, said "HAVE YOU SEEN THE SQUIRREL?" I had no idea what he was talking about, and he told me about this squirrel, later named Kevin Moore by this forum, that was hanging on a wire near his house. So I walked over, took some pictures, and it became a regular thing. Motherfucker was up there for SIX WEEKS.

I for one do find it kinduv disgusting, but not really "gross". It's hard to describe, but there's such a beauty to the whole process of decomposition, and I think it's really cool that we got to observe it like this.

No prob! I'm glad I got to take them. It really was an interesting process and I actually looked forward to going to "visit" him (or her, I think) regularly. When he fell and got washed away I was disappointed. Now when I drive under the wire with my friends who were in on it I turn my music off and have a moment of silence :|

My theory is that he was tightroping across the wires, as squirrels do all the time. He somehow lost his footing and, in desperation, managed to grab the wire with his teeth. His body then swung down and hit one or more of the other wires, completing the circuit and electrocuting him. His jaws locked, and he hung there.

Someone told me, however, that wires like that are always insulated; it's way too dangerous to have bare wires strung up like that. But if that's true, then somehow his teeth managed to cut through the insulation, which seems unlikely, but those buggers have really sharp teeth, so I don't know.

One of the best things is how, after a few weeks, the jaws let go, but he managed to grab a lower wire with his claws on the way down, enabling him to hang up there a while longer by his claw. Kevin was nothing if not perserverent. Even in death, he made one last attempt, grabbed, and scored.
