You get to know people from their posts and you become friends via the internet but when you meet them do they talk like they post? Did you have any preconceptions because of their writing style? For example, one person I met Jingle Boy, was exactly how he posts. I could hear him talk and his thoughts on life were like all of the posts he's had on DTF and I always enjoy our talks on life.
Now Rumborak, while I he talked just like his posts he was very engaging and a whole lot of fun to talk to. Less political and a great sense of humor.
Any of you have stories like this?
-
I nearly shat my pants when I met b_floyd and OutlawXanadu. It was kind of surreal.
-
When I meet Seneca he will be getting big warm hugs.
-
If we ever have an Aussie meet up it'll need to be inside Blob's house ;D
-
If we ever have an Aussie meet up it'll need to be inside Blob's house ;D
Sounds like a plan.
-
I only remember meeting King. Exactly what I expected.
-
Yeah, the various people I've met have all been pretty much as expected. Aside from the midget no surprises whatsoever.
-
I want to meet you all.
-
I'd like to meet a lot of people on here, too
-

If you didn't resemble your avatar, I have to say I'd be somewhat disappointed.
-
I've only met KevShmev and I share the same sentiment King did for Jingle....Kev conversed just as he posts. Speaking of which....Kev, it's about time for more wings ;) :tup
-

:lol Aw, for you I'd leave the house! Maybe even as far as my backyard. There's a BBQ and a pool table out there somewhere, apparently.
So many people on the forum I'd like to meet, but Oz is just so far away from everywhere. :(
-

Definitely! We'll figure a day out here soon. :)
-
That Shadow Ninja dude? Total jerk. Not that I expected anything different from reading the moron's posts.
-
I got a good dozen plus DTFers checked off the list, and most match up with their posting styles, though I would say jingle, potpie, and Jackie do so a bit more than others.
-
Knowing Rumborak was German he definitely lived up to what I expected. Also, although he is not a goat, he oddly seems to live up to his classic avatar somehow.
King, I always knew was a Boston (area) guy, but for whatever reason I never before (nor after) ever really hear is accent when I read his posts. But when I've been with him it is certainly there, though not to the extent of some from that area.
Jingle.Boy's head didn't flop nearly as much as I expected, sadly.
-
His head flopped just fine for me... :eyebrows:

Now I'm imagining Rumborak as "Eh, Steve" :lol
I haven't met anyone yet... Chicago area meet-up, anyone?
-
I briefly saw Nick outside of a DT show from the ADTOE tour.
He was taller and more strapping than I imagined.
-
Dr. DTVT: Extremely insightful, polite, and an interesting conversationalist in any subject. He actually had none of the surliness/cynicism I'd occasionally noticed in his posting and wore Z Cavaricci trousers.
senecadawg: Possibly the nicest dude I've ever met. A little shy compared to what I'd expected but, if I recall, I knocked back a good four beers and was that one obnoxious headbanger at the Opeth show so I think I sometimes cause others to kinda sit back and weather my extroverted annoyance. Also, you were kinda preoccupied with having a final early that following morning as well on top of driving far out of your way to bring me home since this was before I got my current car.
TheOutlawXanadu: His posting seemed to have been more frequent back in the day than in recent years so I was a bit aloof as to what to expect. He's the kinda dude you'd be relieved to have your daughter end up marrying. Way laid back and easy to get along with.
PS: Thanks Mason, Kev, and Nelly for chauffeuring my Kennedy-livered ass around during our meetups :heart
-
I really had no expectations to be honest.
El Barto is a really cool, chill dude. Kinda reminds a bit of an older _floyd, actually. :lol
Progmetty (previously just metty - hey, where you been bud? ) is extremely nice, funny, and we had many laughs over after show eats and being able to ape on The Count of Tuscany publically.
wolfandwolfandwolf (and where the hell has he been?!) was extremely cool - just wish we'd had the chance to yak it up more.
goo-goo and Setlist Scotty "kind of" don't count since I met both of them back in the days when I was still at The Purple Place. BUT... they're both really really nice dudes. :)
Jackie... OH Jackie. :metal I was a little nervous at first, but once we (Wey, her, her bud Rob [I think... ?] and I) all started chatting over beers (I didn't drink as I was DD) the ice broke fast. We should meet up at Bangers again some time if you're ever back in town, sweetie - had a blast just being chill and hanging out!
Who's on the bucket list: RJ, Nemmie, floydie, Chad, Gary, Mister Shmevin (Yes! Believe it or not!), bosky, Nick (DAMMIT!), Orbert, JayO & Panda, Pot Pie, Jorge, ... hell, even Zook and kotowboy. :lol :heart
-
I want to meet all of you. :heart
-
the only that was much different than I expected was Adami. It was a pleasant experience.
-
I want to meet all of you. :heart
That's kind of what I was alluding to at the end of my post. :lol
-
You're all assholes and I never want to meet any of you.
Actually, those I've met at the 2011 DT show all seemed nice, but I really didn't socialize. I'm much more outspoken online than I am in person. The power of anonymity gives me strength.
-

I'm happy to chauffeur you anywhere you need to be! That's you're reward for being such fantastic company! :)
And yes, I am quite introverted. Like Zook mentioned, I tend to speak up much more online than in person, where I prefer to just sit back contentedly and listen.
I'm still waiting for round 2!
-
Most of the ones I've met don't post here anymore. :(
But rumby and Dr DTVT are both especially special.
-
I never met any DTFers, but if I get to have any free time whatsoever before the Maiden show in Belgrade in two weeks I just might see philmcson or Mladen. We should at least take a picture in order for us/you to see how taller/bigger they are from me, in scale :lol
-
Progmetty (previously just metty - hey, where you been bud? ) is extremely nice, funny, and we had many laughs over after show eats and being able to ape on The Count of Tuscany publically.
Metty is well; hit him up the other day. He's busy with work, family and being a dissident.
-
I always imagine the posters here actually looking like their avatars. :lol
-
I'll take these comments as a compliment. Thanks!
For the most part on those that I've met, everyone posts just like they are. Jackie is just the kind of honest and crass (in a good way!) person you'd want to hangout and get hammered with. Trisha is the most adorable person ever. Joe is way too much fun, and gets even more fun with each beer - man did we laugh last meetup. RJ... probably the wisest and most grounded guy I know. Dark_Lord... I'd let him take me hostage!
Nick and Bosk... Not nearly as authoritarian as they can be here - the nature of being a mod I guess.
I've loved every DTF meetup I've had, and there are still quite a few to knock off on my bucket list.
-
Who's on the bucket list: RJ, Nemmie, floydie, Chad, Gary, Mister Shmevin (Yes! Believe it or not!), bosky, Nick (DAMMIT!), Orbert, JayO & Panda, Pot Pie, Jorge, ... hell, even Zook and kotowboy. :lol :heart
Think of the epic conversation we could have about 80s music! :metal
-
I've only met Ariich in person and I expected him to be more correct and uptight because of how well constructed all his posts are and maybe cause his british :P but he turned out to be a really cool and loose guy.
And he is as sexy as his pictures show :eyebrows:
-
Trisha is the most adorable person ever.
Truth.
-
I've met a lot of people, and I'm going to have to leave off the ones I met at pre-show bars in Worcester, MA and NYC because I can't hear for shit in loud places and I probably just came off as some weird guy because I couldn't hear a thing said.
Nick - as jingle said, not as authoritarian as he been forced to be here in the past. Dude let me stay the night at his place despite not really ever meeting me before (again, can't count NYC preshow). Great guy, if I end up somewhere up north I'm sure there will be more concerts in the future.
ZeppelinDT - Pretty much like he is on here, real down to Earth dude, not the type you'd peg as an Ivy League graduate holding a law degree. We hung out with the bass player of The Dear Hunter before a show on what was one of the shittiest weeks in my life leading up to the concert, so I was probably somewhat of a space cadet.
HefDaddy - Pretty much as he is on here. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I met him on his birthday and I gave him a card from DTF with a bunch of our signatures on it, and the look of joy on his face when he opened it was priceless, I really wish I could have shared that with everyone.
black_floyd - One of the fastest witted people I've ever met. He's just as funny in person as he is here, and he is the type of person other people just sort of gravitate to. We were at a bar and after a conversation with some guys they bought us a drink. We didn't ask them to, they just wanted to. Underneath that image you might have of him with his long hair and epic beer holding pictures is an intelligent, well-mannered, swell dude. We have a ton of shit in common too.
lonestar - He was working when I met him, and I was only in town for a conference so a proper meetup was not in the cards. I was also the first DTF'er he met so the thought I might be the type of internet weirdo that you observe from a distance might have been in his head. Ever since I broke his DTF cherry, he's been the friendly slut here so next time I'm in town hopefully a more proper date will be in order.
I feel like I've missed several people. I'll be less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando in about a month so if any of you go to Disney World you know what do to. dark_castle is going to be on this list soon I think.
-

You too baby! I didn't want to list my bucket list, cuz I'd invariably forget someone.
-
Most of the ones I've met don't post here anymore. :(
But rumby and Dr DTVT are both especially special.
Wow, I'm being mentioned a lot here! :lol
Man, yeah, that was 8 years ago now, wasn't it?!

My bucket list: Floyd, Seneca, Scorpion, Elite. Jaffa.
Crimson Sunrise. And more of course

I've met Cup. Sadly he wasn't wearing a Master Shake costume :(
I'd love to meet any and all of you!
(I think I probably halfway unknowingly met a few of you LA area folks through the years but I wouldn't be able to put names / events to faces)
-
I've met 2Timer, Nick, Yeshua, and Dr. DTVT. All have been extremely pleasant meetups. Very nice people that I'd love to hang out with again.
2Timer, I still talk to pretty regularly. I've filled in for his band a few times, actually.
-
Coz and I had a near miss a few years back.
-
Bummed that that didn't work out, but I have no doubt that circumstances will probably present a similar opportunity at some point.
-
Actually, I think yeshaberto and Cramx3 are the only active member I've met. Really cool cats! I met a handful of peeps who are long gone. Lots of fantastic peeps here I'd love to break bread with or toss back a beer or two.
-
The only time I'd most likely meet some of you would be if DT plays in Denver on the 2nd leg of this tour, or at another show in Colorado.
-
Bummed that that didn't work out, but I have no doubt that circumstances will probably present a similar opportunity at some point.
Actually, I may be in the same part of Northern VA for the same client on a different case in the near future, so you never know.
-
Would love to meet all of you, but KNH and RJ top the list.

Awesome. Let me know, and I'll see what we can make happen.
-
Mason was cool as shit. There was too many people at the bar, we need to meet up again in a quieter setting.
Chad, a few more beers in me and you'll never know where that will lead you.......
-
Yeah, one night he got REALLY REALLY drunk and made the poor life choice of being a Bruins fan!

That would be chocolate milk at age 5 bub. :lol

I have many long time friends I still hang out with from The Rush Forum. I have met at least 100 members. At least 25 I see on a semi regular basis.
I have known some for 10 years. My daughter has spent entire weeks with my friends family because she connected with there daughter. Its very surreal.
I have met a few from DTF and have had good experiences meeting the King, Nick, El Barto, TAC, Axeman, and others...
I personally think the real life me is much different than the online me. Online I am passionate and sometimes misunderstood. I think when people meet me in real life they see I have a great sense of humor, and am not at all combative.
I think even on this board I have evolved to a place where I think people see me in a different light than maybe they did prior to years past.
I have been voted most angry member in the past and I don't think anyone here who has met me in person would describe me as angry.
-
I'm pretty much the same online and offline, that's been established during many meet ups with people from a long gone chat/forum community I've been a part of for a few years. There are several DTF regulars I could imagine having a good time with just talking or maybe grabbing an acoustic guitar and playing a few tunes.
But then again I'm quite far away from most of those people so it's rather unlikely to ever happen. Maybe there's an opportunity next time DT are in Austria, let's try and have a small meet up, if only to take a picture of a few middle fingers for the forum.
DT fans are usually welcome, so however remote the chance, if anyone of you ever gets to visit Graz, Austria make sure to send a message and we can arrange a chat, a tour, a bite, or a jam, open invitation to (almost) everyone.
Greetings...
Nef

Uh, wasn't holding a broken beer bottle to our bartender's throat somewhat angry and combative?

Literally thought you were American all this time. You have a very Pantera-esque southern metal look.

Progmetty (previously just metty - hey, where you been bud? ) is extremely nice, funny, and we had many laughs over after show eats and being able to ape on The Count of Tuscany publically.
Metty is well; hit him up the other day. He's busy with work, family and being a dissident.
Exactly that Debra, thanks for asking :)
I only met Debra and Barto, I had known Barto for longer and found him to be exactly as he puts off here, there are no misrepresentations with Barto he is exactly everything you see here which is pretty awesome really.
Debra I had just met here a few month prior to meeting her at the concert, she was so nice, simple and down to earth even to people she had just met and followed her and her family down the streets of Austin looking to find a restaurant :lol, she introduced me to her cool family and we had a super filling dinner together while cracking DT jokes which I haven't tried to do in a non-typing format prior to that hehe, thanks to her also I now know that "grub" means food, been using it ever since ;D
One more thing about Barto for those who haven't met him if you want a visual approximation -and Debra correct me if I'm wrong- he's 80% The Dude and 20% Otto.
-
I've met countless memebers on the DT.net board. Most of them at TGM before the Radio City show... Prob 200 people at the bar before hand. Out of those people, I made some dear friends, and most importantly, found the future Mrs. 'Arry... I can say knowing a few very well. Most people's postings are representative of some of their personalities. Some traits more than others...

If you mean Otto from A Fish Called Wanda Bart is my new hero.
-
Lessee...actually hung out with ZeppelinDT, Mebert, and the distinguished El Barto. All as advertised.
Briefly met Neon at the DT show in Huntington, as well.
Oh, and I've consulted for bosk1, though we've never met.
-
If you mean Otto from A Fish Called Wanda Bart is my new hero.
More like Simpsons Otto, who's actually less cartoonish than the Otto from A Fish Called Wanda :lol

The only DTF'er I've ever met offline is Splent. He was in a Gentle Giant cover band and they were playing within driving distance of me. I didn't know his real name, so I just called him Splent until he corrected me. But he's exactly the same in person as online. Sadly, Splent doesn't post here much anymore (the good news is that it's because he is a teacher and has a baby daughter and thus no free time) so you'll just have to take my word for it. Also, the band was really, really good, but again you'll just have to take my word for it because they broke up. :(
-
Met Rumby, King and Axeman in Boston one night. Very cool guys and I seem to remember it took 90 minutes before Kevin Moore came up.
-
I met OdinsCourt once. Was kinda weird, I think he was freaked out at meeting a DTF (well, dt.net back in the day) in real life. I saw his band live, but sadly I can't say I enjoyed the gig too much.
-
Nobody's met me, and considering I basically live on the moon in terms of isolation and don't have a way to go places at the moment it probably won't happen any time soon. ;)
-

After the Giants cut you, I figured you'd have more than enough free time.

Well, I'm moving next to Lake Crago, so that's kind of like meeting you, sort of. Of course I'll be in the anti-Canada known as Florida.
-
I've met so many people from here (and had a blast with all of them). I feel like a lot of folks (myself included) start out more shy/awkward in person but you eventually wear them down to where they're more like what you see here.
Jackie... OH Jackie. :metal I was a little nervous at first, but once we (Wey, her, her bud Rob [I think... ?] and I) all started chatting over beers (I didn't drink as I was DD) the ice broke fast. You were also a pleasure! And more or less how I expected you to be based on our conversations here.
the only that was much different than I expected was Adami. It was a pleasant experience.
Yeah, Adami is awesome! I wasn't sure what to expect on our first meeting because he can be hard to read on the internets but he is a hilarious person who is great to talk to. We've met up several times now.

Jackie stayed over at my place for a night. True story.

Halt die Klappe!!

Jackie stayed over at my place for a night. True story.
I've had... 3 DTFers over I think. I've also stayed with at least 4 before. I've met so many it's hard to keep track at this point, especially those from the earlier days.

Indeed :eyebrows:

It's official. I will live 34 minutes from Wald Disney World. You are all on notice, YOU HAVE NO REASON NOT TO VISIT ME.
-
When are you moving, Mason? I may be out there in November.
-
I'm moving in July, so I will be settled in by then.
-
Sweet. If I end up going, I will let you know. What area are you going to be in specifically?
-
It's official. I will live 34 minutes from Wald Disney World. You are all on notice, YOU HAVE NO REASON NOT TO VISIT ME.
You dipshit. I just got home from Disney on Sunday. With the jingle.kids starting high school next year, I don't see us going back again in the foreseeable future. Why couldn't you have moved there a month or so ago!?!?
-
Yeah, Mason! You're a dick.

I thought it was weird that Chad looks nothing like his avatar.

That's right. Man, woman, young, old as mold... doesn't matter, I've had them all!
-
Nick watches concerts the exact way that I thought he would.
And how is that? :lol
Very intently, and you become very invested in the music, entranced by its emotional, passionate gravitas :hat
Which is very cool, because I'm the same way. :tup
And really I'm just laughing because we've been to 3 concerts together and keep missing each other :lol
1. Dream Theater- Merriam theater on the Dramatic tour of events tour (I was dead center, about row 11 and you were on the left I forget which row. I noticed you over there right as the show was starting and wasn't able to make my way over)
2. Queensryche- Penn's peak. I didn't see you at this one, but I believe you were there
3. Fate's warning- at Reverb in Reading. You were right up against the stage on the right and I was right up against the stage on the left. I meant to say hi at this concert, but I just didn't get a chance to.
But its all good, because there will be many more concerts in the future. :metal

I met OdinsCourt once. Was kinda weird, I think he was freaked out at meeting a DTF (well, dt.net back in the day) in real life. I saw his band live, but sadly I can't say I enjoyed the gig too much.
You should see us now. We are a different band...much better. :)
-
...awkward.
-
I haven't physically met anyone here who is still on here.
:emo:
-
I met Sintheros a couple weeks ago. Though he either just lurks now or isn't active at all anymore.
-
I know yeshaberto seems like a levelheaded moderator, but that guy is the biggest jerk in the world. Nothing like his online persona. DON'T LET HIM FOOL YOU
-
I met a few people at the DT.net meetup for the Score show. Nick came to my house with a friend of his, had some pizza, and I drove us to the aforementioned show. I met Meg (ProgMaiden) and I also remember meeting Jackie that day and probably a few others but I was too doped up on pain meds to remember who.
There are a handful of people I must meet at some point. Definitely my buddies from the chat: King, Jay, Kotowboy, Hef, Zydar, Blob (get your ass on a plane or send me your private jet) ;) A handful of others but I won't begin to name names as I know I'll leave some out.
There I am sitting down with the soda. Couldn't even enjoy a beer because of meds...phooey.

I remember that well.
Nick's hair at its finest.

I met a few people at the DT.net meetup for the Score show.
I was at that meetup, but I'm pretty sure I didn't know you at that time, so if we met, I don't remember.
I met rumborak there, and zerogravityfat, and some other guys who are no longer active. It was a good time.

We probably walked right by each other.
The guy sitting next to me and the two standing over me were the ones I spent most of the time talking to. I don't even remember who they are or if they even post anymore.

I broke the hat.

I broke the hat.

Did you?

Yes.

Mere seconds after that pic was taken, I removed the hat from my head, by grabbing the beanie ball atop the hat (you can't see it in this pic, it's sitting too far back on my head). The beanie ball came off in my hand, while the rest of the hat remained on my head. The hat was broken.

Last night I dreamt that I met Lonestar and Jackie. Randomly in LA.

Those pictures... nooooooo.

I so read this as Krieger . :lol

I'm not sure who the guy sitting next to you is but the one standing on the left is Jasc and the one on the right is... aran? I can't remember his real name but I met him a couple of times because he was from the area. I believe he was at the epic meetup at my mom's house that involved jumping on a trampoline and Mikachu falling out of a wheelchair while wearing my mom's Dallas Cowboys helmet.
-
Those pictures... nooooooo.
They will haunt you forever! Don't feel bad though. If some of my older photos saw the light of day here I'd be majorly embarrassed.
:lol

Aran sounds familiar actually. You might be spot on with that one.

And I have a picture of the group from that day you were talking about Jackie, looking for it.
In the meanwhile, one of the best of Axeman and I.

For the longest time I thought Sigz was British. I've never met him though. I'm sure we'd get along swimmingly.
Actually, much like the meet up in Phoenix a few years ago, I probably wouldn't talk to anyone... Because, well...
PEOPLE!!!

:rollin, that fucking pic cracks me up every time. Portis with his antlers and super-serious face, and Mikachu's eternal :neverusethis: face
And Nick, if I remember correctly the one of you and Bill is from my college graduation party at my cousin's in West Orange.
That is indeed Aran.
Right, but what is his actual name?? It's killing me!
-
what an epic meetup!
-
Yeah, the various people I've met have all been pretty much as expected. Aside from the midget no surprises whatsoever.
Oh, c'mon! I'm not that short!
-
Met quite a few people from here, though most of my fellow Brits don't really post here anymore. Some random comments:
XJDenton (aka Squibby) - pretty similar to his posting style, just a bit chattier. Incredibly pleasant chap, very intelligent and witty.
Rumborak - Pretty similar to his posting style, again intelligent and witty, but in person has the main benefit of being more relaxed and not trying to wind people up! :P
Sigz - really awesome guy! He spent a year in London studying at Imperial College which was amazing as I got to see him quite a lot. Definitely very similar to his online persona - intelligent but a lot of fun as well.
Nick - basically exactly as I expected, but then I know him really well even though I hadn't met him before this summer. Was a very cool experience though, great to spend the day with him and Mrs Nick.
Millahhhhhhhhhhh - Really interesting guy, always found him respectful and intelligent on here but he was definitely a lot more talkative in person and really fun to chat to.
Jingle - similar to Nick, I feel like I knew him pretty well so I think he was basically what I expected. We had a really nice day visiting him and his family - especially enhanced by BBQ and cake! :lol
A whole load of others but these come to mind right now. Will post more.
EDIT: Of course Arch Benemy, nightmare_cinema and AcidRainLTE I've met a fair few times - all really cool people as well!
EDIT 2: And of course I'm good friends with TimmyHiggy, but I knew him in person first and introduced him to DTF, so that doesn't really count. :P

Certainly does count! You're right up there on my list of DTFers I haven't met but really want to. Others that come to mind are kingshmegland, hef, and bosky.
Just realised that XJ is a major omission from those photos, so here's one of him, Sigz and I getting dinner in a London pub in 2011:

Ian has been one of my favorite DTFers to hang with; we've had many adventures. Hopefully we will be in the same city again soon.

Aww, my poor Duke. May he rest in peace. If there is an afterlife, I'm sure he watches Ian sleep every night.
-
That has to be one of the most amazing things I've ever seen...
-
Amen. May he threaten Sigz forever.

:lol
It was so amazing, I just came out of my bedroom and saw him sitting there staring! Immediately/quietly got the camera, of course.

Here's from another random meetup.

Jackie, Duke's so damn menacing. :lol
-
(https://www.wpapu.com/images/meetup03.jpg)
And one more recent one, to go along with what Rich posted. Pass me my appletini as I get in touch with my feelings, but it was so cool to have a day with him and Mrs. Rich as they toured North America. Funnily enough, up to that point I had managed to meet most of the people who I talk to regularly outside the forum, but kinda figured Rich was one of those guys that would always be an e-friend due to practical limitations. Will always have very fond memories of that day! And of many great memories of the other days meeting far too many members from DT.net and forward than I can remember. Another pair of longshots finally came together in February, in a most epic and amazing setting...

zerogravityfat and secludedmayhem?? Both of whom I met a couple of times but can't remember their actual names.
And oh man, I remember that other meetup! Joeshabadoo! I have memories of going to get Indian food with him while we were waiting to do the "shouting in the studio" thing with Portnoy for Systematic Chaos. It was cold as fuck that day.

I've only met Onno and mizzl. And Nihil-Morari who I had some classes with at university. Onno lives in the same building (a student flat that is) I live in and he's a cool dude.
It looks like I will meet Scorpion in July at the NOTP festival :)
-
Yes! So psyched for that.
Also, that video is the best thing ever. Jackie, Sigz... :heart You're awesome.

Just a random observation for my own curiosity, but I thought people who wore glasses took them off when they slept? Drunk and passed out?
-
SHOPPED
-
:rollin
Barto, this is Ian we're talking about here. I don't remember exactly which night/morning that was, but there was most certainly drinking involved.
Edit: But yes, we bespectacled folk do normally remove them before bed... though I have fallen asleep with mine on before when really tired without the aid of alcohol.

Super old thread but DTVT, Nick, Hef, Jingle.boy, and 2Timer are meeting up at RoSfest and we are having lunch with Coz.
That is a big FUCK YEAH! :metal
-
Tomorrow marks 11 years from the 4/1 Twins meetup. It was an amazing experience, and I miss everyone. Haven't been to a meetup since.
-
Haven't really met a lot of DTFers (home and Elite (Elite only very briefly)), but they didn't seem like they put on a fake identity on the internet or anything, genuine dudes. I also met Scar at the Opeth gig last year but don't really remember much from that
Hope to see some new faces in September at the Ayreon show. I'm not actually going to the show but I'm aware that quite a few DTFers are, and it's not that far away from my home so I want to join you guys before/after the show, most likely after but maybe before as well if find something useful to do in the meantime when you are enjoying the concert.
-
Thats great TON.
In a month I'm meeting Hef for the first time. I can't wait. We are all going to a progressive rock festival. Also going who I've met is Jingle boy, DTVT & Nick. We are going to have a blast.
We are also meeting up with Sir GuitarCozmo, who I've met and 2Timer who I've never met for pizza and beers and 2 timer is going just to the Friday night show only.
-
I've only met Train so far but he seemed like a genuine dude as well. :azn: Definitely leaves the same impression online as in real life!

I think I might go as well, it could be fun to meet some more DTFers! I might even go the concert if I can get second-hand tickets, but with the amount of ticket requests that there are already on Ticketswap that doesn't seem to likely :p
-
Did I post in here about meeting Deb?
Because she isn't as awesome as she is online.
She's 10x as awesome!

It will be an honor to be flipped off by all four of you.

I've met a handful from DTF in person. We had a good turn out for the Radio City DT show last year in NYC. I don't think anyone I've met's offline personality was any different than I thought compared to their online, either that or I didn't have enough time to find out there are different online/offline personalities :lol
I've met.... Prog Snob, Sir Guitar Cozmo, Axeman, El Barto, Bout to Crash, Nick, Jingle, Yeshaberto, Crimsonsunrise, Millahh and Chino.

I've met.... Prog Snob, Sir Guitar Cozmo, Axeman, El Barto, Bout to Crash, Nick, Jingle, Yeshaberto, Crimsonsunrise, Millahh and Chino.
It's just too bad you had that damned training thing, otherwise we coulda spent some more time hanging out.
And agree... everyone I've met has been pretty much the same online personality. The only person I think is totally different is Jamesman - or so he claims. He's mellowed out since a few years ago though.
-
Well the training was a blessing and a curse, but yea it's a shame I didn't have more time to hang out. I'm sure another time will come.
-
It will be an honor to be flipped off by all four of you.
If we can meet up for pizza it will be 6 middle fingers for you.

We were at the same damn concert and didn't meet. I blame you because I can.
-
Back when the board population was a little different I knew almost everyone from the Twins meetup and various East Coast things. Notsomuch anymore. Perhaps soon one day mayhaps...

I feel like between Neal Morse in August and Shattered Fortress in September, I'm going to pad my list. I'm looking forward to it!

Yup, looks like there may be some meet ups in the future. Also, did you get my letter? Your inbox is full.
-
I cleared it out; yes, I got your letter. I thought I sent you a PM to that effect, but I could be wrong, it's been a crazy week or so.

Fantastic :metal :metal :metal

I hung out with Black Floyd the other night. Based off his regular modeling blog, he wasn't QUITE as strange as I thought he would be :rollin.
-
:lol
Bucket list for me. Josh would be amazing to meet.

Let's see, I've met bosk, Sigz, lonestar, and yeshua.
Bosk is very intelligent and a great man and I've been blessed to get to know him and his family. Online bosk is very direct, very assertive, which can be mistaken for harshness but in reality he is super gracious and generous.
Sigz I met seeing Eisley and he was pretty excited. A very open-minded guy and a true lover of music. A bit more restrained than his posting style.
Lonestar I met only briefly at a bar in San Francisco before a DT show, and people kept coming up to ask this George Clooney imposter if they could get an autograph. He was very accommodating.
Yeshua, his daughter, and I got lunch kind of randomly and he struck me with the way he carried himself with what I can only call "confident humility". Same as his posting style.

Ah yes, I almost fucked up getting to that show in time with leaving our tickets in the hotel room :lol Ended up being a fun story since we took a limo there to make up the lost time (the limo was a dare and hilarious not us being fancy).

I need to meet some DTF folk. I wish I wasn't so much of a lurker when the Score meetup happened.
