Similar to, but different from other polls here, I wanted to pick a list of tracks that sound like they START the second half of the album, either by side, or vinyl, or what just SOUNDS like the beginning of the second half of the album. These are my opinions, so if you have an issue with the track choices, then you can start your OWN poll! :tup
For a lot of these, the choices for each album are self-explanatory as they really do open the second half of the album, especially on vinyl, for the first three albums. For FII, "Lines In The Sand" opens the third side of vinyl, same with "Home" on SFAM, "Never Enough" on 8VM, and "Prophets Of War" on SC (the last two, ironically, being their Muse-inspired tracks).
The recent vinyl for SDOIT placed "Disappear". For TOT, I paired "Vacant" and "Stream Of Consciousness" together since, like the pairing of "The Mirror/Lie", work better as a pair and they share themes and such, and there is no real break between those tracks anyway, so I wanted to make things interesting here by keeping those pairs together.
The last three albums all had official vinyl releases from Road Runner (well four, but I already mentioned SC), so their Side C/2nd Vinyl Disc starting tracks are listed as they were pressed.

LITS followed by Metropolis and BTV.
-
This was hard, but I went with The Mirror
-
A tough choice between The Mirror/Lie and Vacant/SoC, and I went with the latter. If only Lie would be a bit better...
-
Voted for BITS, but I think I actually like LITS more.
-
Man, placing Disappear on the same disc, before SDOIT, feels like the most unnatural decision. That's like, trying to just fit as many of the songs together on one side as possible, without consideration of the flow of the album. Although, of course, vinyl spacing was obviously not considered when the guys wrote the album. Still, sucks they couldn't fit Disappear onto the end of Disc 1 side B.

1. Metropolis, Part 1: The Miracle & The Sleeper
2. Vacant/Stream Of Consciousness
3. The Mirror/Lie
4. Behind The Veil
5. Light Fuse And Get Away
6. Wither
7. Prophets Of War
8. Never Enough
9. Home
10. Lines In The Sand
11. Bridges In The Sky
12. Disappear

Tough call! Metropolis, Lines in the Sand, Bridges in the Sky, and Stream of Consciousness are all top ten DT songs for me, and Home isn't far behind. I went with Metropolis for the poll, but it's a stiff competition for me.
-
I went with LITS, could have just as easily gone with Metropolis. Several other good choices too. But the whole concept of "sides" is so antiquated and irrelevant to me for modern albums.
-
I gave my vote to The Mirror/Lie.
-
Metropolis all the way.

Still, I do think that certain bands, DT in particular, have a certain flow to many of their albums, where it almost seems like there's a conclusion to the first half, and the second half has a different sort of flow to it.

Aside from SFAM, which does seem to have natural breaks due to the "acts", I don't see that at all. Maybe you have to want to see it that way. :dunno:

Well, SDOIT is another obvious one, where Disappear feels like a conclusive song, and then SDOIT is its own entity. But also Awake. The Mirror definitely feels like a start of a different 'chapter' of the album, so to speak.
BITS is another one. It just feels like a great "intro" song. So what is it an intro to? Well, it's the intro to the second half of the album, in a way.

:iagree:
I think even MP said they always designed the tracklists with vinyl/side changes in mind, with the exception of FII, which doesn't have a clear second-half opener.

Metropolis
-
Metropolis, Lines In The Sand, Wither, Bridges In The Sky in no order.
-
Metropolis and LFAGA.

Not voting, but I was listening to BTV today, and I thought it would be a great song to open of the SECOND SET if they do An Evening With the next time through.
I actually think that distinction will go to Bridges In The Sky or possibly TGP.
