Discuss.
It's a brilliant venue, although likely to be all seated.
-
Well, then. For those asking if they are going to play other UK shows other than the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, there you go.
-
Is this going to be an evening with show?
-
I believe so, yes.
-
Better question is will it be the same set lol
I REALLY hope they change it for the second legs. Make another tight show with a different set for the second legs.
-
Just bought tickets - going to see DT three times in a year! Yay! And best of all - Front Stalls, Row B, £40, didn't even have to pay the ridiculous VIP surcharge!
Hopefully they'll announce a date for the Friday (Wolves? Leeds?*) and I'll get to see them 4 times in a year!!
SQUEEEEEE! I'm feeling like a 13 year old going to see One Direction!
*I do recall a gig announced at Doncaster a few years back that was moved to Leeds - chances of that happening again?
-
Excellent news, the City Hall is a great venue despite it being all seated, plus I live in Sheffield so it's super easy for me to go. Phoned the venue this morning and they said tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am, so I'll be getting mine then.
-
Already on sale at crowdsurge via the DT site. It's the only way to guarantee front stall tickets.
-
Oh, I'll get on that right away then. Cheers for the heads up!
-
Just got my tickets, row D in the middle. Excellent news.

I'd say if they announced another UK date it'd be further south. They've played Southampton Guildhall before on a summer leg, for example.
-
HELL YEAH! :heart

Seeing as they're playing down south (Knebworth), I think it would be more likely that they'd do a northern date, like Scotland or Newcastle. Also I'm hoping they are playing Sheff due to me emailing the promoters asking them to put them on here, I told them it's a better venue than Leeds 02

I just clicked buy tickets from here https://www.dreamtheater.net/tour (https://www.dreamtheater.net/tour)
-
Yeah, I didn't see the find tickets option
Row E, seats 29+30 :tup
-
Just got the Gold VIP, it'll be my 2nd show DT show after the Manchester one in Feb. I hope there's a setlist change but wouldn't mind the same.
Quick noobish question, At what point do we get given the VIP stuff? I read somewhere that it's at the venue? but is that when they check tickets or when?
-
You'll get an email with details - they'll invite you to the venue early (about 5.00ish)
-
I have tickets!
This will be the first time I've seen Dream Theater twice in one year. I saw them twice on the BCSL tour, but fourteen months apart. And these are the best seats I've ever had. Expensive way to start the week. But, worth it! Even if they play the same set again, it'll be worth it. If there's a few curveballs, all the better.
-
Received my ticket today and noticed it says "Dream Theater plus Special Guests".
Look like we won't be getting an "Evening With " show.................
Peter
-
My tickets say that too. I was under the impression this tour would be an evening with. Bit disappointed.
-
In all fairness my Manchester ticket said this too and that was evening with!
But it is the day before a festival they're playing at so I'd understand if it wasn't...
-
The venue/ticket provider probably don't have any idea what the format is. I'd bank on it being An Evening With.

This did cross my mind actually.
-
Yeah, I'm sure I've received "special guest" tickets for bands without openers, before. Should be fine!
-
If this turns out to be the first show of tour, depending if they announce another date, I'll do my best to post the setlist while I'm there. Really excited for this gig.
-
Should be a great gig! First time seeing DT in my home city!! :metal and 2nd gig of the year
Row AA too, could've kissed the woman at the city hall box office
Hoping we get some more tracks from DT 12, would be sweet but just happy they are playing Sheffield, been way too long ..
Anyone up for drinks before hand??
-
Just realised earlier that Haken will be doing north England tour later this year...
If it wasn't an evening with that would be awesome! :metal
-
Well as this will be my first ever DT show I'm not really bothered whether it's special guests or an evening, I'm just super psyched!!!
-
Poster adverts around the city confirm that it will be 'An Evening With' :metal
-
I'm going!
I missed them in Manc in Feb. I figured I've already seen them like a dozen times over the years and I'll catch them on the next tour.
Then of course everybody here starts yapping about how this is the best evar!!! Then they announce the Sheffield show. Darn!!! I'm seeing Extreme on the Friday in Manc. Dt on Saturydat in Sheffield. Cannot afford :-(. Then my gf goes and buys tickets for us!!! :-D
So we're seeing Extreme on the Friday and DT on Saturday! What a weekend! I can't wait!!
-

DT posters in Sheffield, been a loooong wait! Got to see one of these!
So stoked for the show
-
....three questions;
1) When you have your photo taken with the band is it with your own camera or is it professionally taken and they email you the picture.
2) Is the special gift normally a tshirt? - can you choose your size before hand?
3) Have DT played at the Sheffield City Hall before. (I am from near London and I have only been to their London gigs before - 14 so far!).
Got my tickets and decided to go for the meet and greet experience as well which I am totally excited about. I prefer it when you can buy these separately. The whole weekend is going to be life changing as I will be staying in Sheffield on Sunday to watch to tour de france which I have been a dedicated fan of for many years!!!
-
I'm not aware they've played Sheffield City Hall before - if they have it was a long time ago! The special gift isn't a T-shirt, sorry. Without spoiling it, it isn't that special at all, so don't get too excited. Don't know about the camera, I'm afraid, never been to a M&G.

Many Thanks The Curious Orange.

The last time they played Sheffield was at The Octagon in 2000! It's been too long.

Wow that is a long time ago!
Can't help thinking that this City Hall gig is going to be one of those stand out shows which is why we are travelling up from Hertfordshire. Really can't wait!!!

I was there. The setlist was sweeeet. ACOS as an encore!!

My tickets have arrived already - happy days! Same very good mailing service that I am received from Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall (both venues where I saw Steven Wilson). Great Service guys...now just waiting for details to be emailed about the VIP meet and greet!

When did you order yours?
Was is via the DT website/crowdsurge?
I've ordered a platinum M&G ticket on April the 13th and haven't got it (although that's not surprising).
Also, I noticed that it says on the DT website/crowdsurge page that a platinum VIP package, doesn't include a ticket for the show. When I bought mine it did though. Have they changed this or something?

I ordered my concert tickets on 3rd May through the link on then DT website which takes you to the official Sheffield City Hall website.
The Platinium VIP meet and greet that I bought separately DOES NOT include a concert ticket because it is an upgrade package. As you are right it states this on the DT website when you click on the VIP link (red icon). If you have not had actual seat number confirmed (because it is all seated) then I doubt if you actually have concert tickets but only the VIP pass.
I paid £133 for the upgrade and a further £30 each for the concert tickets.
The last time they toured England I think that the meet and greet DID include the concert ticket but this mean't they were more expensive because the only seats available in the package were the first few rows. The current system for Sheffield CH means you are able to decide where it sit regardless!
The VIP details for Sheffield City Hall will be emailed to those going probably a week or so before the actual concert and it is likely that you'll have to arrive a few hours before the doors open or show starts. The VIP entry ticket are to be picked up at the venue box office on the day of the concert with photo ID.
Hope this helps?
-
Thanks for this :tup
I've definitely got a concert ticket - checked the confirmation e-mail, so that's fine.

I'm up for a pint, myself and a non-forum buddy will certainly be going for one, so might see some of you about!
-
Got my ticket at the weekend too. 5 weeks to go - can't wait!
-
Tickets have come! We so excited. :metal
-
If any of you guys would like to meet before the show, I live in Sheffield and could probably recommended a few pubs to visit. Would be nice to meet some DTFers. Drop me a PM if you fancy a drink!

Got my concert ticket now. When I ordered it they said in an e-mail that "if you purchased a Platinum VIP, please note the Meet and Greet will happen before the listed door time of the show and that you will be emailed further information closer to the date of the show".
That's fair enough, but I wasn't told anything about picking up VIP tickets at the venue. Does that mean we get 2 tickets: one for the concert, one for the VIP?
If so, I know nothing about the latter.
-
15 sleeps to go... :yarr
-
Has anyone received an email with details of the VIP meet and greet yet? or is it too early?
I already have my concert ticket.
-
1 Week till the concert, got my ticket but no email about my VIP Gold :-\
-
I emailed Crowd Surge this morning to find out details of the Platinium meet and greet. This was their response prompt -
Thank you for your email.
An email with information on your VIP package will be sent to your email on file within a couple days of the event. If you haven't received the VIP instructions within 24 hours of the concert, please contact us again.

I'm really interested to see what the set list is like, whether it's simply a shorter version of what they've been playing or if some new songs will appear.

I'm crossing fingers to see The Bigger Picture, Surrender to Reason and/or Behind the Veil make an appearance. Pretty please :heart

Assuming my calculations are correct, it's about 12 hours to showtime! This means that it will be starting by the time I get up. :P

I'm going to be on the edge of my computer seat come concert time to see if either of these three songs will be played.

A new leg begins, I'm back.

Now I know nothing about this show, but why do you think it'll be shorter? Don't they continue with the evening with format?
-
Anybody know what time DT will be on stage?
-
soooooo who's gonna give us live updates tonight on the set?
IF there's any set changes, I think that at least the 5 DT12 songs they're already playing, OtBoA, SDV and FF will be played. Then, if anything, they switch and swap a few others. I think the Awake and SFAM anniversary spots will remain, with maybe different songs from those albums.
I could see something like this:
False Awakening Suite
The Enemy Inside
The Glass Prison (will probably always just be wishful thinking)
--James says hi--
Take The Time
The Looking Glass
On the Backs of Angels
Enigma Machine
Panic Attack
Along For the Ride
The Bigger Picture
-----------------------
The Mirror
Lie
Erotomania
Voices (2 of the remaining 3 songs from Awake they haven't played yet)
Space Dye Vest
Illumination Theory
-----------------------
Home
The Dance of Eternity
One Last Time
Finally Free
It's only 2 minutes longer than the first leg's set, and it's one song longer.
-
I do agree that The Glass Prison's return is long overdue. I hope it comes back real soon.
-
I'll do my best to post updates throughout the night. I'll definetly be able to post during the intermission. Sat in a pub having a few at the mo :) I know the show starts at 7:30. Looking forward to it!
-
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!
I'm in the venue now and they're sound checking with Pull Me Under :)
-
Please, no!
-
Please, no!
It could very well be for tomorrow's Sonisphere show. Festival sets are normally crowd favorites, and I would be absolutely shocked if they didn't play PMU tomorrow. Tonight? I'd be shocked if they DID play it, unless they do it just to be more familiar with it for tomorrow.
BUT, I could be wrong. I've only seen them on the first leg of this tour, so I haven't seen the song in person, so I wouldn't mind it too much to see it if only because it's sort of a DT right of passage to see that or Metropolis live once lol. Other than that, they should be playing TtT if anything from that album, as it's the only song on I&W to be played live yet.
-
How long until the show starts?
-
I'm not sure but it should be one hour/one hour and a half.
-
I'm not sure but it should be one hour/one hour and a half.
I heard it starts at 7:30 PM, which would make it 19 minutes from now!

Still waiting to get in the moment. They won't be on yet.
-
False Awakening Suite
The Enemy Inside
-
The Shattered Fortress
-
Thanks for posting :tup
-
On the Backs of Angels
-
Damn, seems like the same set :-\
-
Damn, seems like the same set :-\
So far. It will definitely cut come things down the road due to the shorter time slot.
-
The Looking Glass
-
Trial of Tears
-
Is it evening with?
-
Enigma Machine
-
Along for the Ride
-
Breaking All Illusions. I'll update if anything changes from now on. Looking like the same set.
-
Well, this is disappointing.
-
Maybe because it's the warm-up show, they're playing it safe. But who knows. The current set is still awesome and needs to be seen. :tup
-
Same setlist with enough subtle changes to make it worthwhile, but disappointing they didn't shake it up more. Still, a fantastic show despite a few sound problems, and Space Dye Vest was sublime.

The bit about 'subtle changes' was confusing ... just to confirm, any change in the setlist ? Thanks !
-
This band has amazingly become.............BORING!!!!!!!!! :loser:
-
Well, they're mostly playing cities they missed on the first leg, so I understand if they want to keep the setlist the same, but this must be disappointing if you've seen them already. We'll see if they make some changes in Paris, since they played there in January.
-
Sheffield may be a different city, but it was the same old crowd.
-
I might be attending a show in Brescia some two weeks from now, and that's 30 minutes away from Milan. Still, the chances they change the setlist are slim.
Anyway, video of Finally Free. From what I can hear the band seemed pretty tight, with James sounding overall very ok with only minimal hints of the usual tour kickoff shoddiness. Very good!

-
Sorry, was texting those few comments from my phone - am back in front of a keyboard now, so can type a little more!
Another great show! Despite the disappointment at the lack of any setlist changes, this is still a great setlist, even if I was sitting thru it for the third time! I'll be a bit miffed if they do make any changes in Paris or elsewhere, as this is their only UK headlining show. I can't really complain, as this was the risk I took in going.
The sound was a bit muddy in places during the first half - The Shattered Fortress seemed to suffer for it, and Along For the Ride was a mess, but the highlights shone through. They got it sorted by the second half, which was better all round - Lifting Shadows was awesome, and Space Dye Vest was truly spectacular, JP nailed the solo at the end, it sent shivers up my spine - magical. Illumination Theory held together surprisingly well, the band were so tight, even if the song does have 4 minutes of dead air in the middle of it. Finally Free was the other highlight - and I managed to shake hands with 4 of them at the end!
A few other observations:
The best advice I can ever give anyone is NEVER EVER DRIVE INTO SHEFFIELD. The city is a rabbit warren and nothing is signposted.
The screen at the back of the stage has developed a few dead pixels.
I think Jordan might have a new keyboard sound - he used it during TSF and The Mirror, but it's hard to tell in the live environment. In any event, there was lots of new keyboard parts. There was a new keyboard solo in The Mirror (did they f*ck up the intro part? JP certainly dropped a duff note earlier in the night, its nice to know he is human!), a short jam in Scarred, beefed up drum spot in Trial of Tears, etc. JP's guitar was much more brutal during Illumination Theory.
Song of the Night - Space Dye Vest
Man of the Match - JMX. The bass was thudding through the floor, up my legs and touched me in my special place. I've never quite appreciated before just what a powerhouse Myung is.
Arse of the night - For once, not the three guys in Row A Who wouldn't STFU, but the girl in the front row who was wearing a skirt so short you could see what she had for breakfast. I'm even convinced JLB was sneaking a look down her top...
-
No setlist changes...that's very disappointing to be honest...i'm considering the chance to sell my ticket.
-
This band has amazingly become.............BORING!!!!!!!!! :loser:
Sadly, after 25 years of loving them and 20+ live shows, I have to agree. The "same" set made up in large part from arguably, their weakest ever album, was lazy and very disappointing. No-one expects them to swap complete sets between nights anymore :( but they SHOULD have been able to bring in at least 4 or 5 different songs since the tour. So GLAD I didn't waste any money on those ridiculously high Sheffield prices.
-

Two more thinking the same way - my son and I have followed the band since 2000 but both agreed last night that the shows have lost their spark and spontanaiety and are quite 'mechanical'now... :-(
-
Geez, peeps. At least, this is a band that celebrates album anniversaries with meaning and showcased new material at the same time. I would like it if certain bands, I like, do that. I would like to see a setlist change as well, but we'll see. They got to play a different setlist at Sonisphere, guarantee, since I will tell you that the festival goers won't get the theme of the setlists of their headlining shows and won't probably care for it.
-
Oh, derp. :lol I thought this show was the festival show, but that's the following show. My bad.
-
I wonder if the band get bored of playing the same songs every night?
-
Great show but I already saw it in Manchester....
Met some guys afterwards and we waited next to the tour busses for an hour and a half.... But they left without us seeing but we sung quite a few songs outside..... Haha
-
Really great gig! Bit of a shame they didn't shake the set up a little - but it's still DT and it is still my personal favorite set i've seen them play.
I thought the roof was going to take off when JP hit the intro on The Mirror - and same with Illumination Theory too! Heavy doesn't describe it :metal
4 handshakes at the end - managed to miss Mangini again but never mind ... thought JM was going to take my hand off! That's one hell of a handshake
Arse of the night - For once, not the three guys in Row A Who wouldn't STFU, but the girl in the front row who was wearing a skirt so short you could see what she had for breakfast. I'm even convinced JLB was sneaking a look down her top...
He was definitely going for a sneaky look, saw him do it a few times! I was a couple of seats away from her and she was rocking from start to finish!!! That was a ridiculously short skirt though :eek

A bootleg is available on dimeadozen, people. Just sayin' ;)

No setlist changes...that's very disappointing to be honest...i'm considering the chance to sell my ticket.
I had a good ticket for the Sheffield show but got a reasonable heads-up it was going to be same setlist so I gave it away for a nominal figure. Thing is, I never would have considered not going to a show just a few short years ago. Times change. For me, the show is more mechanical (good word, thanks!) now than it ever was.
Apart from meeting the usual crowd of Voicees, I didn't miss anything. Glad many people did enjoy it, of course.

With the show being advertised with a support, and cheaper tickets than Wolverhampton, I thought it was a nailed-on 'festival warm-up'gig. TBH I'm not sure what was the point of slotting it in just as carbon-copy of the February dates.
