Anyone interested in doing a meet up?  I am going to the NYC show with my friend, but since this is a Monday and Red Bank is only 15 minutes from my house, I may end up just going alone.  Id be down for a meet up at a bar in Red Bank.  Im very familiar with the area since I live close so I can help anyone who may have questions.

I work up in Hackensack and will probably head to the show straight from work.  A friend of mine will probably be joining me and quite possibly the wife.  So I would be totally cool with meeting up at some point before the show.

How come on the count basie site another event by the Nj symphony is scheduled the same time as dream theater.  I hope they don't cancel the show I'm going with 3 other people.

Interesting.  Either they are playing with an orchestra or someone messed up the dates on the website.

Shouldn't be a problem theatre probably messed up. I was looking at the capacity of this theatre and its only a little over 1,500. I think it's gonna be a nice intimate show!

I ordered my tickets this past weekend, top level first row all the way on the right. Got tickets for myself my brother and my father. My father isn't into DT but he likes music and when I invited him he initially said he may not want to go but when I said its only DT and for about 3 hours of only DT, he changed his mind.

I'll be at this show too. I was stoked when they announced a show in Monmouth county, aka my hood :D. I'm going with my mom and dad, I've gotten them into Dream Theater over the years. Dad was always into 70s prog rock so it wasn't a stretch and my mom loves the ballads. I've also got some friends going too, should be a great time.

I'm taking my family as well my Dad's in same age range as dream theater and has been a fan since they started playing. This will be my first DT show. I wonder if you could somehow upgrade one ticket to vip but keep the seat it'd be cool if my dad could meet them all. Or maybe I'll just stick around after the show lol. I am pumped though looking forward to this

Thanks for the heads up about this.

I'm already going to the NYC show but I was curious about this show because it's only an hour drive from me and at a more intimate venue. My seats are at the balcony for the NYC one. I decided to check out what's available anyway and saw that there is a seat in the 5th row right in front of Petrucci! That's too good to miss so looks like I'm going to this one too  :metal

Yea, kind of upsetting.  The last two NJ shows I went to were half empty.  The PNC Bank Arts Center is understandable because its a huge venue, but when I saw them in Asbury Park, I was really bummed because it was so empty.  I really hope more tickets get sold for this.  I don't think it helped that they announced it later than the NYC show.  The two venues are maybe only an 1.25 hours away, more with NYC traffic.  And then Red Bank is only 1.5 hours from Philly.

I bought my tickets at the box office the day they went on sale, saved a bunch of fees and bullshit. I'm pretty disappointed that the show seems empty. I was at that Arts Center show too and I remember LaBrie saying something like "We've been coming here since 98. Great venue, not very well known though." I'll be pissed if they pull a Symphony X and don't play in the state for years.  :-\

PNC Arts Center not very well known is a pretty poor excuse, the place is a huge venue right on the garden state parkway where HUGE bands normally play when they do summer tours.  I do hope they continue playing in NJ, but for DT, playing NYC, Long Island, NJ, and Philly is a lot for a fairly small area.

Oh I know, I live in Monmouth County and have been going there for 10+ years. For a band as big as Dream Theater not playing in New Jersey would be bullshit imo.

Well they are playing at the paramount before the day before this one and it's only 320 in capacity and there is already more than that at this show so far. I think it should fill up by the time the date rolls along.

The Morristown NJ show in '11 for the ADTOE tour looked just about sold out. They just don't have a great fan base in the states, and honestly have been losing attendance (at least at all the shows outside of NYC I've been too) for a long time. BUT, NOTHING was close to as embarrassing as that PNC show in '12. :blush

Damn....I just did a count and I see only 719 seats sold for this show as of now. The place holds 1,543, which means there are more UNSOLD seats (824) than seats sold :tdwn I know the band probably took a hit when MP left, but this is really ridiculous. It kills me when I see sh*t bands with no musical talent selling out arena's when a truly magnificent band (both musically & technically) plays to these small crowds! >:( :censored

... is this really the case?  Can we actually blame the poor attendance on the lack of MP?  The house was pretty full when I saw the ADTOE tour in Chicago, and it seems like attendance was pretty strong throughout the majority of the tour.

I KNOW a lot of DT fans (when I say a LOT, I mean like 10 :rollin) who still buy their cd's but won't pay to see them anymore without MP. That of course doesn't mean anything across the nation though, but I assume it had at least some affect on the concert attendance.

I've seen them on every tour since FII and up through the Train of Thought tour, the attendance was growing. But, I sense a downward trend in attendance starting with the Octavarium tour (aside from Radio City of course which really was a) a special show & b) their "high water mark" as far as attendance in the states). I think the two progressive nation tours (while great ideas) possibly didn't go over as well as MP might have thought, and then you had the ADTOE tour which had very up and down attendance.

While I really LOVE ADTOE and DT12, I think maybe, MP had the right idea about the band taking a few years off and give fans some time to miss them. Then again, WTF do I know! :loser:

This might be the case in the US, but attendance certainly isn't decreasing in Europe. It's not going up a huge amount either, but it's staying pretty steady.

I can't speak for other parts of the nation, ice only seen DT in the NYC, NJ, and Philly areas and from my experience, attendance has been great everywhere I've seen them except in NJ the two times I've seen them (which I mentioned earlier as Asbury Park and Holmdel).

I don't really get why someone who would by their new albums but no longer want to see them without MP. I could understand if the new drummer made their live music suck, but MM is as good a replacement as you can get.

My opinion is that the area is over saturated with concerts since they are playing LI, NYC, NJ, and Philly in a matter of days. There's a lot of people who live here but I don't think they are big enough to have people go to all those shows and a lot of people in north jersey will see them in NYC and people in south jersey will see them in PHilly leaving the concerts in NJ lower in attendance.

I completely agree. Playing the big cities on either side of the New Jersey dates has to have a big drain on ticket sales.

I've been to EVERY show at the tower theater in Philly since they started playing there and in 2002 (SDOIT tour) the place was packed. Every tour after that, the crowd was smaller and smaller...so small in fact that once the upper level was closed off, and then the lower AND upper was closed off the next times. The show was pretty full last time in Philly, but that was at a smaller place than the tower. And, judging by the open seats available for the March show, they'll probably be closed again!

I agree (which is why of course I continue to go, even though I think the shows are not as good without MP), but out of my other friends who like DT (11) only one of them care to see them without MP. That's their choice I guess.  :tdwn

It's true as well. I always felt they should do separate legs and do NY & NJ on one leg, and then LI & Philly on the other.

I've seen them in Philly in the US and every show was packed.  I moved to Morristown, NJ a couple years ago but I've never been to Red Bank... Is it like a really out of the way place for a lot of people?

I'm also attending the NYC show and the venue that they are playing is right by NY Penn Station which is awesome.

Red Bank is in the northern part of the Jersey Shore area. I guess if you live in New York or Philly it is a bit out of the way, and since they're playing both of those cities it wouldn't make much sense to go to this show. That said, it is easily accessible. The train station which is a couple blocks from the Count Basie Theater is on a line that goes right to Penn Station. For anyone in New Jersey its really easy to get to via the Parkway or 18. I don't think the location is the cause of the low sales, more likely playing the big cities so close to the date. I've lived in the area my whole life and this always happens, New Jersey has the unfortunate(or fortunate depending on how you look at it) luck of being within two huge metro areas of other states.

This pretty much nails it.  Red Bank is pretty easy to get to and Main Street is really nice for shopping and bars/restuarants.  Also has a nice park along the river.

too many shows in 2 small a region....NYC/NJ/Philly/LI

I know some people in the region go to multiple (AS I AM) but for me, with today's ticket prices and the non rotating set lists..one show is all I'll do

waiting until the night of the show before I get my ticket...don't seem like it will be a problem

hey Bill. As of right now, there's still 667 seats left (which means 876 sold).....well, at least it's more than half sold now

I bought tickets for Philly, NY & NJ prior to the setlists coming out, assuming  that at the very least, we'd get a 3 or 4 song "A" & "B" rotating set like during the 1st leg of ADTOE tour. Well, much to my chagrin, we see that it's a static set. I've actually watched the entire show from manchester online, and I got to say, you doing one show this tour is definitely enough! I'm VERY LIKELY going to try and dump my Philly ticket (20th row center) for under cost if possible, but will still go to NYC show (hey, it's a Friday night with DT) and definitely the Red Bank show since I have 4th row in front of JP for that one.

From here on in though, it's one show for me. Without MP, and without anything special in the sets, one is all I'll need.

Hope to see you there in Red Bank. :metal

Same here, but also because I have more money to spend than I did when i bought my tickets.  Oh well, I should be able to get fairly close for the NYC gig if I can get there early enough.

There's municipal parking, but, I wouldn't get there too late. It's a busy area.

I live close by and frequent red bank often for the bars.  There is a parking lot very close by that is free at night, but I've never had trouble parking there, but Ive never tried to park there when there was a rock concert in the evening so I honestly am not sure if that lot will fill up.  Either way, you can drive around for street parking or find some of the smaller lots that are in the area and walk over.

The tickets say doors are at 8, so does that mean DT wont go on until 9?

DT should go on at 8. It's a three hour show with an intermission and I don't think they can play past 11:30.

The NYC show that I went to on Friday started at 8.

yes, but the doors said 7 on the ticket.  The tickets for tonight say 8 which is why I was questioning 9. Which I agree is pretty late.

Yeah I hear ya.

The ticket for the NYC show said "doors open at 7", but the NJ one just says "8 PM" on the ticket and the website.

Essentially it's the same thing and showtime should be at 8 PM   :tup

I saw Kansas there maybe 10 years ago and it was sold out, which it looks like this show won't be. Parking was no problem then, and on a Monday night Red Bank isn't gonna be crazy like it is on the weekend. You should be fine.

Amazing show. James Labrie was flawless and so was everyone. Very nice intimate venue. The only thing that was annoying was the couple in front of me was ridiculous. Instead of watching the show they would look around everywhere and be on their phones the whole time. The lady even sat down and went on facebook during the show......Why even bother coming. They left halfway through. James even made a "wtf" reaction when some guy was texting in the front row beginning of the show. Overall, it was incredible though to see them so up close. :metal

Excellent show!   The band was on fire. James was nailing every note.

Even better,  the couple next to me must have been friends with Jordan.  At the end of the show,  the woman asked if I was with the band.  When I told her no she handed me two After Show passes. Her husband said to tell Jordan that Tom said "hi and sorry that I had to go." So my friend and I got to meet John, Jordan, and James. I'll post a couple of photos tomorrow.

Ill second that.  I liked how he called the haters out, also kind of gave the band a reason to give it all (not like they dont anyway).

I was very surprised by the crowd last night.  Not sold out, but pretty packed considering the discussion about ticket sales.  I also really liked the venue, although living so close to Red Bank Ive never actually been inside the theater.

Yeah I'm surprised how packed it was. I guess a ton of people bought tickets at the door. I love the Count Basie, I've been there a few times and never had a bad experience.

Id love to see them there again.  I wonder if people came after seeing the show on Friday and enjoyed it enough to want to see it again.  My brother and father came with me, both of who arent into dream theater.  My brother really liked it... my father appreciated the talent but he said the time changes in all the songs was too much for him.

Pretty amazing show.  Could have done without the screen stuff, but it was better than last time. Pretty amazing set too.

Definately having fun and being themselves out there without trying so hard to have a stage presence.

Just go out and do their thing. It was great...especially since James gave up the faux-metal frontman thing.

Can't wait for the next leg.

I have been very vocal about how the last DT show I went to (PNC in 2012) was probably my least favorite of their shows that I had ever been to and how they'd basically become more of a "studio band" for me. So after 25 DT shows I went into last night's show hoping to get back some of the magic I used to feel when seeing these guys live. I can honestly say that the band gave me that, and then some. First off, the setlist is incredible! I love every DT album, but Awake and SFaM might be my top two so to see them basically do an entire set of those two albums was awesome. I've always loved James voice but have always said he leaves a lot to be desired as a frontman, but last night seemed different. Like I said I had seen DT 25 times prior to last night and I can honestly say that I've never seem James look so comfortable on stage and be able to work the crowd so well. And he sounded great too! Last night was an incredible show and I can't wait until they come around again. The only disappointing thing was the fact that they didn't play Behind the Veil as that might be my favorite song on that album but given the set that they played I certainly can't complain.

Regarding the screen stuff, I really enjoyed it. And the video during intermission was awesome!

DT2003, I agree with everything you said except the last line. Personally, aside from the opening sequence before the band took the stage, I thought the video's were completely useless, and especially the intermission video which was absurd. I watched them at the NYC show, but never looked at them again in NJ (the fact that I was right in front of JP all night helped! :metal

I dont understand the negativity towards the videos.  Would you rather just see the band instead? If so then thats valid.  I found that I can watch the band and enjoy and then look up to see whats going on and how it may connect to the song.  I wont say the videos were amazing, but I think they played a good part in the overall live experience.  Also the big screen was beautiful and some of the solo spots with the graphics over the live shots were pretty cool and well done. (Fireworks during JPs solo for example)

Yeah I don't understand the negativity either, especially towards the intermission video.  Not sure how it could be considered "absurd", but I'd certainly much rather watch something like that compared to there being nothing on the screen.

I just found the whole thing silly and childish. They have taken that directly from Rush (and that's also the ONLY thing I hate about Rush....their silly videos). Just one man's opinion :tup

I was mainly talking about the intermission. For the most part, the video's during the show were pretty cool (with the exceptions of the video during Enigma Machine  :loser:) and the video during The Enemy Inside (I hate when bands show music videos while they're playing). And you are right the big screen was beautiful and the graphics over the live shots were cool (especially the fireworks during JPs solo)  :tup :metal

I was there! It was my first Dream Theater concert, and it was amazing. I can't believe they started exactly on time! More than on time, they started a minute early! We were walking in and I hear The enemy inside  starting! By the time we got to our seats and I started recording the song, it was already past the first chorus. Either way the video kinda sucked, hand kept drifting so the video wasn't looking at the stage. It's great to see good videos of what I tried to record online. Too bad no one recorded Finally Free though. Or at least, recorded and posted.
