Anyone else planning on going to this one? hoping to do both philly and ny :metal
There's currently no on sale date listed at live nation, anyone know when they go on sale? or presale info?
-
I'm going! This will be my son's first DT concert. I told him when he was 10 he could come, but his ears were way too sensitive when he came of age, so I waited. I'm glad I did, too, because his musical tastes have matured a little, and now he really loves DT, so it'll mean more to him. He's now 14, and he couldn't be more excited! It will, however, be my first time in the balcony. I'm not complaining, though; my first time was the FII tour, and I haven't missed a tour yet, and I've had plenty of great, up close seats.
-
Is this one sold out already? Live Nation site says tickets are not available.
-
they haven't actually gone on sale through live nation yet, not sure when they'll be up, and live nation was no help either
-
is going
-
ordered my vip ticks Christmas day. had to get something for christmas
-
I'll be there. Got my tickets through DT.net :metal
-
apparently the tickets go on sale thru livenation next friday, 1/17, with a presale on the 15th called the Nearfest presale, anyone know what this might be? i googled nearfest and got a supposedly-discontinued northeast prog festival, could this have to do with the presale?
-
I've heard of Nearfest. A friend of mine spoke of it as highly as I speak of Rosfest...almost. You're right about what it is. I could find out more from him if you'd like.
-
i noticed the VIP seats no longer include the ticket. fortunately when i got them they did. Just a heads up for anyone looking to purchase.
-

if theres any information available that would be great!
-
According to my friend, the last Nearfest was held last year or the year before. It was supposed to be an awesome festival, much like Rosfest, but it went belly up. He doesn't understand why this pre-sale is called Nearfest pre-sale. Sorry for not much information, but I tried.
-
for anyone who wants to use today's presale, the password is 'nearfest'. i looked, but none of the seats available with it appealed, so I'm gonna wait :corn
-
In hand. Section LL, seat 126.
Set list from last night already posted at
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2014/coliseu-do-porto-oporto-portugal-3bc58c50.html
-
Duhh. Thanks to CountofTuscany42 for the presale secret password. :tup
-
RC OR row AA seat 125 :metal :hefdaddy :metal
so glad i managed to get a good seat, can't wait for this show
-
 I will never understand how it is possible to wait a day and be 21 rows closer.
Nice catch COT42.
-
well when the presale was up you could see all the seats available for it, most of which weren't up in front. so i just made sure to get on right at 10 this morning for the normal on sale time and grabbed the best i could get :metal
-
Yeah you did. Too early to set pre-gig toast?
-
Is going
-
Just for the hell of it, I just looked at the ticket chart again, and it looks like it's not quite half full. Sort of depressing.
I'm actually pretty excited about our loge seats. I've always been on the floor and sometimes very close to the stage, but since my son is going, I wanted him to see the 'whole' show, so we're up in the air. I think the visual aspect of this show should be pretty cool from up there.
-
Limited posts and only one week to go.
-
I got the tickets in the mail, but no details on VIP yet. Anyone get any?
-
I didn't know whether to put this in the Tower Theater thread or not, so I didn't.
Is anyone going to grab dinner anywhere before the show? I know a bunch of us met up a couple of years ago at a pretty decent restaurant that was pretty much right down the street from the theater. Anyone looking to do that again?
-
FYI, I just got myself a 5th row ticket from Live Nation, and about 7 more are still available.
So yes, dinner before sounds great!
-
Same place as last time? Of course, I'll need the name and directions again. And my son will be along this time, and his name is also Nick!
-
First post here (long time lurker)
I got my VIP details in the mail Sunday night, if you still didn't get them I can PM you the info.
I'll be manning seat LR OR AA 120, so if you're around, feel free to say hello!
-
I'm in LC Orchestra, row AA, seat 126. I'll be wearing my DTP hoodie with the water logo, and my green Scale the Summit shirt with the panda on it.
-
This show was hands down better than the Boston show for me. Moved from back half of a balcony to fifth row, the closest I've ever been for DT. Sound was MUCH better, and I could actually hear JM and Mangini. Performance was stellar, and it was great to hear that they hope to have the Boston DVD out around August.

It was an amazing show! Definitely the best performance out of all of the DT shows I've been at - they were all at the top of their game! The venue sounded pretty darn good too.
-
Agreed. The sound was the best I've heard yet. The keys were prominent when they should have been, I could hear JLB right off the bat instead of a few songs into it. I had my son along, so we got 2nd row loge seats, and it was actually really nice for once to sit for the whole thing and take it all in, and the volume wasn't too bad for him at all! I have no complaints at all. And SDV was stunning. Like foraiur said, they all were in top form, but something about JLB lately...I love watching the man perform. He's really in his zone. Fantastic night!
-
This show ruled. Great sound. Great performances.
-
Because it won't be seen on C/S.
- JLB killed. Somewhere around the beginning of ToT, he realized his voice was with him tonight and started going for every over the top note he could. AND HE HIT THEM ALL. The best part was when he hit the "cowards for salVAtion" line, something I never saw in any Youtube video. To me, JLB was the MVP of the night. He made a lot of songs really special.
- I'll make my only negative comment here - The fans gave JLB no respect. He went for so many big moments that could have fallen completely flat and nailed all of them. And no one ever gave him applause. What the fuck?
- The lighting and stage design were really impressive. It doesn't look even half as cool on Youtube as it does when you're actually there. A lot of the videos were actually cool. The opening video during FAS was fantastic. The fan tribute/random DT history video during the intermission was a lot of fun to watch. The cartoon during the ambient/string section of IT was really beautiful.
- The Shattered Fortress was the positive surprise of the night. I'm not a super big fan of this song, but it really worked and came alive tonight. It was super duper metal and I loved it.
- Space Dye Vest was amazing. The tone and the performance were so haunting. The audience's attention was locked in during the whole thing, and it got huge applause when it ended. For such a subdued song on the album, they did a great job making it bigger while still capturing its melancholy elements.
- The end credits set to the easter egg were a nice touch.

The two issues I has with the performance in Boston was 1. It was too loud, although I could clearly hear everyone. and,
2. JP had his serious face on. Hopefully he lightened up little in Philly. Even Mangini, was considerable more serious than usual, which was understandable given that they were recording, plus he's in front of the Berklee/Boston crowd.
and it was great to hear that they hope to have the Boston DVD out around August.
Is that what they said? That's great news. I did not want to wait until after DT 13 was released.
-
Yeah, I did notice JP doesn't make the faces like he used to.

Yes, they did say that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZazRy1_J7FE

James was really on the top of his game last night! I've never heard him sound so good live. I was a little disappointed with the meet and greet, it was REALLY rushed - you barely had time to even say hello to the guys before you got pushed along.
Something funky also happened to the mix half way through Scarred. JP's wet sound cut out for a few seconds, and after that the mix was never quite right (JP was really low in the mix).

Looks like an excellent set:

As someone who has seen a ton of DT shows at this point, I LOVED when that happened. I absolutely love Petrucci, but being able to hear Myung better for once was a nice touch.

I was there and out of about ten DT concerts I've seen, this was JLB's top one or two performance. I was impressed.
-
had a great time last night! I'll be at the red bank show monday and I have meet and greet tickets if anyone wants to say hi.
-
Let's turn this thread into JLB's appreciation thread :D

I've never heard the man performing better than this. People go saying that he's at the top of his game, and as the owner of 500+ DT bootleg, I honestly say this is not an understatement. Nothing from 1993 up to today even comes close to his current shape.
-
That's by far the best I've heard that song sound live, although I wouldn't go as far as to say it touches his pre-vocal injury voice. But huge credit to him for sounding so much better than he did 15 years ago when the song was released! His pitch control is almost as good as ever.
Hearing JLB slaying these SFAM songs live is going to be a highlight of the upcoming DVD for me.
What was with the vocal doubling at the end? I could hear two separate JLB voices on the same line, not even a harmony. I don't know why they did that. And it was weird hearing JLB sing a line, then have his voice doing the alternating vocal while he holds the mic out to the audience. It was the main lead line that he usually sings too. I guess it was to give him a breather on those long notes.
And I didn't like what MM was doing with that outro at all. That section is designed for the drums to take the lead, but he was just doing different odd beats instead, so that section fell flat for me.

I havn't like what he been doing either.

That literally brought tears to my eyes. I'm so happy for James. Not opening a can if worms here but I stated the day that MP left, the biggest winner would be James. He was so active and happy in Boston.
I love how at the end of this video before the final "someday soon" how satisfied James looks.
I hope on DT13 he has some real room to show his range.

that's excellent — Myung was barely audible all night in Montreal. either they're continuously tweaking his tone and mix over the tour (likely), or there was something screwy at the Bell Centre that lowered his presence. even the bass breaks (like in OTBOA, and especially TDOE) had an extremely dulled and muted presence, without even the bottom end to hold him up.

Wow, awesome. So pumped for the Chicago show next week. :metal :metal

I noticed this as well. From I remember, I thought his sound cut out for a minute. When it finally came back on, he was very low in the mix. I think he got slightly raised but it never seemed as loud as before.

Haha, this was my reaction to the above comment too. Lucky for you. How I wished JP was lower in the mix in Boston.

my friend took these photos from the show, enjoy!

He got some wonderful shots! I'm pretty sure he was the one right in front of me taking pictures. Pretty cool!
