Whenever I try to get best available from the DT site, it gives me section 203 upper balcony for some reason...

Maybe I'll try a different site.

I got a pair of GA's for the NYC show. Coming down from Canada to catch this (my wife is coming along too....nothing like a shopping weekend in NYC to entice her!) and will have watched them open in Toronto and then the next night in Montreal.

Can anyone please tell me what the Hammerstein is like as a venue? It is my understanding that the floor is slightly angled so that in the GA section you have an unobstructed view of the stage from anywhere down there. Can anyone confirm?

On the DT facebook page there are posts about some of the other shows on the tour and their presale code is MOOSE. So I'm assuming and hoping that it will be the same for this show in about an hour.

Unless they've redone it in the past 5-7 years or so, if there is an angle to the floor, it is very slight.  I've been there 7 or 8 times and never had a problem seeing the stage.  If you go in back of the soundboard area, there's a raised area where the bar is and you can get a nice unobstructed view.  I hung out back there when seeing Pantera to avoid the pits.

Hey cfmoran13....I appreciate that tip. Thanks.

You don't have to twist my rubber arm too hard to get me closer to the bar anyway.

Are seats in the balcony open?

Also, almost $75 for a ticket? Is that... normal? Seems really high to me  :\

I saw the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in NYC for less.

It seems the seats were more money. The GA floor was 64 after fees and taxes.

Paid 109.00 for my ticket in the lower balcony. Way worth it for me. I have no interest in standing on the floor in a mob. Just not my thing.

I debated on getting a seat for the long show but I usually end up standing anyway and when I couldn't find a seat in the first few rows I figured id rather just save the money and try to get close.

It's nice to have an option though, if you get tired and they hit a song you don't like, especially in a 3 hour set. Even at a standing room only show, I was able to sit on the bar in front of me that separated where I was standing from the pit.

You must suffer through the pain of GA.

I was good for about 90 minutes at the 2010 Worcester show. I was 12 at that point, and in considerably better shape then. I enjoy having an option to sit, and not having to fight for my spot.

That, and I'm like 5'3". Meanwhile my 6'2" dad is self conscious of blocking others' view.

I got GA, but I was planning on arriving to the venue early anyway. I stood for 2+ hours for Steven Wilson the last two times he played in NYC (and I stood for 2 more hours after the show just to say hello to him backstage last year) so I think I can handle standing for 3+ hours for DT.   :metal

As for standing for 3+ hours...
Can I do it? Absolutely! I stood for over 3 hours for Transatlantic in 08. Its not about the standing. Its about having no space and being so crammed in the heard. It was ridiculous for the NYC show. Too many people and you had zero personal space at all! That's what bothers me, not standing in general. If I can have just a bit of space to move I can stand for several hours with no isssues.

For this show I am going with a novice fan and I want him to have a great experience...dinner, drinks, and a killer show relaxing in an awesome seat!

Transatlantic at the Grammercy in NYC was so packed on the floor you could barely move a muscle. That is the thing I just don't dig.

Yea I'm not big on being squeezed next to a big sweaty dude, but the last GA DT show I went to I was very close and wasn't even touching anyone. I'm going to sit at the red bank show and relax and enjoy, for NYC I plan on having a few drinks and getting into the music.

Got my tickets today! Funny thing about this tour: I go to college in Boston, and the Boston show, the DVD show, turns out to be during spring break. At least this concert is also during spring break, so I still get to see them. My friend, who lives in western US, isn't so fortunate.

I'm in NYC for work-related training so I'll be there too, will be my 3rd time seeing them. I saw them twice in 2011 (Athens, Greece in August, Montreal in October)! It's funny how it played out... if anyone told me back in 2007 (when I started listening to the band, I was still in high school in Athens) I'd see them in NYC 6 years down the road I'd be like "Wtf are you talking about?".  :lol

I just saw them in Toronto on opening night and then the following night in Montreal. I am heading to NYC to catch the show this Friday.

I guarantee that you guys will be blown away. An incredible show from start to finish and everything in between. They start exactly at the designated hour and finish up three hours later - on the nose.  They were all on fire. But Labrie especially brought his A game. Not sure if that was because he was playing in Canada or what....but he was flawless at both shows.

If the energy and vibe from either of those gigs is present at the Hammerstein we will all be in for a great show.  And remeber....DT always tend to play memorable shows in NYC.  :metal

Going through a bit of Dream Theater songs right now to pump myself up for tomorrow. I've been at the Hammerstein Ballroom once before, but that was for a My Bloody Valentine concert last November so I can't tell you how the sound was cause they were playing catastrophically loud and I had earplugs on (will probably wear earplugs tomorrow as well) :lol I'll probably be hanging around the venue area starting around 4ish (yeah, call me crazy, but I really want to get close to the barrier as possible next to the VIP peeps). If you see a short Asian dude with short messy hair, that's me. ;D

If the doors are at 7, what time does DT start playing?

I am hopefully arriving at Penn Station around 5:30-6, but will be meeting my friend for food and drinks and then will head over.  I want to get close, but I dont feel a need to line up really early to get close.  Maybe my friend will want to and we will, but Id rather hang in the bar and get happy because this work week has been so insane that I can use a lot of drinks tonight.

I was pleasantly surprised (shocked actually) at how phenomenal James sounded and how well he worked the crowd. This was the first time since I started seeing DT in '96 where Ican actually say they HAVE a frontman! Great job by James (aside from forgetting lyrics in Lie)  :loser:  :yarr

The staging was great, and while I honestly feel the videos did absolutely NOTHING to enhance the show, I must admit the opening video was outstanding! :hefdaddy :tup

John M, John P and Jordan were all fantastic as always and Mangini was good, but I just don't "connect" at all with his robotic and uninspiring way of playing. People argue that N Peart is "robotic" as well, but MM is NOT NP!

The only down side of the show was the mid part of Illumination Theory where everything slows down to a crawl. The band leave the stage and for 3-4 minutes, it's "let's sap the energy completely out of the crowd" time! :tdwn  >:( The energy didn't return until the very end of the song, and exploded at the beginning of the SFAM encore.

I'd give the show a solid 9.5/10 and can't wait to witness again Monday night in Red Bank.

MVP definitely goes to JLB though. He impressed the  :censored out of me tonight! :hefdaddy

The show was insanely good. I was up in the second balcony and the view was great especially how you got to see all the lighting It was most likely at full capacity. You should not miss this if you are a fan. Simply epic. The only part I felt was off was a section in the dance of eternity. It just seemed a little off.

and James messing up in the middle of lie was hilarious. He just stopped and said "I fucked up." It was no big deal though

Going again at count basie to get a closer view

I couldn't have asked for a better first DT show than last night. Honestly, out of all the concerts I've been to in my young 20 years of existence, last night's show was probably one of top 5 concerts I've seen by far. I agree with As I Am, James was really the MVP of the night. To my ears at least, he  :censored nailed the "Cowards for salvation" line in Illumination Theory. The show's still sinking in for me, but the highlights for me were The Shattered Fortress, Trial of Tears, and pretty much everything from Breaking All Illusions onward. Oh and BTW, the intermission video was probably the most entertaining intermission I've seen. If anything, just on the basis of last night's show alone, I plan on seeing DT every time they play NYC.

I was standing at least 3-4 rows behind the barrier center stage in the GA section and the crowd at least the ones around me were insanely into the show and were singing alone and chanting on James' cue, etc. Got to the venue around 4:30 and was both surprised and not surprised that there were people already in line. The people I met and talked to during the show were super cool and enjoyed talking with them. If I met anyone here on the DTF, I was the short dude with the Steven Wilson Raven shirt.

Hey! You were standing behind me and then the one dude let you stand in front of him. Normally anywhere else i would say I'm the guy with the big beard and long hair... But ya know, metal show environment, that's like 80% of the people. I was literally right in front of you.

James missing the line in Lie was epic and his reaction was awesome. That was a great show and the place was packed which made it really awesome. My favorite part might have been the heavy faster part of strange déjà vu where there was actually a small mosh pit formed. Can't wait to have my seat and sit back for a different view/experience of the show.

This was my 4th time seeing DT (3rd time with Mangini), and this was by far the best I have ever seen them play. Being on the floor amidst the racious NYC crowd made all of the difference. (SO ENERGY! POWAH!) I thought that James sang good the last two times I saw him during ADTOE, but he was CRAZY, OUT OF THIS WORLD good last night, especially during the Awake tunes.

After witnessing a mosh pit start to form during The Dance of Eternity, I can safely say that I have seen it all during a DT concert. Only in New York....

They HAVE to do a 2nd North American leg of this tour.

Wonderful show! It seemed to me that the band was a bit off at some points, but the sound and energy were better than Boston.
Also, if I was in GA I'd be pissed at all the people cutting in the gaps between storefronts.

Believe me, there were several people who tried to shove their way from the back to the front of the barrier where I was. Unless you were saving your buddy's spot, I figured that DT fans wouldn't stoop that low but alas, it happens at every GA show I go to. Still, I enjoy GA shows a bit more than seated shows just because the crowd energy seems to have so much POWAH! which I personally like.

I may have spoken to you - I was the blind dude with the cane.  I spoke to a dude from Agalloch's show in 2011, a girl who waxed on and on about Sonata Arctica, and a few other dudes.  It was by far the most energetic crowd I've been in at a DT show, and The Mirror and Lie were somethin else in that setting.  Unfortunately two people were yelling in front of me after Lie ended and therefore I couldn't hear most of Labrie's chatter about the album anniversary sections.  The sound was rather muddy, and James was hard to hear at times throughout the night.  The Boston show, while definitely too hissy-sounding, was better in that I could always hear James.

Sad Wings! I was the guy who you spoke too Agalloch about. It was an extremely energetic crowd. There were two coked out guys that came up like half way through and just were yelling random things trying to start shit with people to get to the railing. Other than that it was a sweet show.

As for people getting to the front, I was on the far right maybe 6 people behind the barrier and the people by me were pretty curtius in terms of letting people leave to get drinks and bathroom but still come back to their spot but yea there were definitely others just trying to get close. Pretty normal. I was wearing a light blue miller light shirt by the way. I think I rocked out for the entire 3 hours and on my bad ankle.

I got screwed for this show. First off, I had a ticket that didn't exist! (only me) I had seat 12 in a row with 11 seats. That's fucked up. I was on the end of the 3rd row in the first balcony. An opera box blocked half my view of the stage. I couldn't see Petruci at all unless he walked towrads center stage.
The band was great but I paid 110 bucks for a shitty obstructed view seat and the actual seat on my ticket did not exist.
Good times.

Great show! JLB was on fire.

The only downside was that I couldn't see any of the visuals from my seat at the lower balcony. The roof was covering it

Looking forward to the NJ show tomorrow  :metal :corn

I just took it up the rear end and moved on. It sucks but I don't see Ticketmaster doing anything about it. The security guard who checked my ticket when the row filled up was confused. I had no seat and he didn't know what to do. He stuck me in the only empty seat in row 2.
I was ripped off for sure.

I called Ticketmaster today and explained I was sold a ticket that did not exist and I saw very little of the stage. The associate is requesting a full refund of $218.00 for the 2 tickets I purchased. Even if they don't refund me back at least I made the effort to explain they did wrong by me. That's all I can do.
They said I would know in 5 to 7 business days.

I talked to some guy outside who thought that Paiste cymbals were rebranded entry-level Zildjian cymbals and another guy who recognized the CT town on my marching band jacket and also said he was from Connecticut. I also made half of the upper left mezzanine row B get up twice so I could piss during the orchestral section, and was one of the two boys at the front of said section that looked like they belonged in GA.

So, did any of you see me?
