The "pre-sale" takes place tomorrow. But I believe you need to be part of the "FriendsFirst" program run through Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall. I registered earlier this week through the MH website so I believe the window opens up at 10AM tomorrow to grab tickets ahead of Friday's public sale.

Also seeing them in Montreal the night after the T.O. show and then in NYC on the 28th with my wife coming along. This is going to be good.  :D

VIP?  Didn't know they were selling tickets directly from their website.   >:(  Now, it says they are unavailable - so I'll need to wait for pre-sale, or general public.

You need to just give up this madness altogether and make your travel plans for S.F.

I'm not feeling like shelling out for VIP.  I sat front row centre in Phx last tour, so I've had my moment.  There's not a bad seat at Massey Hall (unless you're over 6 feet, and up on the 3rd level).  I'll take my chances Friday at noon.  Live Nation confirmed they don't have a pre-sale.

I'm considering the Mtl show.  Not sure how mrs.jingle will feel about me blowing out for a Friday night though.  So, you shelled out the $100 to join that Friends First program?

I had my VIP moment back in 2009 Molson Amp, this will probably be my last for $300, its still a lot to shell out, I wasn't going to pay $100 to get on the buddyfirst list, I really wanted 2nd deck in the center, but they're probably gone in the presale, so I went for VIP. Im excited to meet the band again, don't have to wait at the bus this time, lol

Not worried about picture taking or whatever during the show since the last time at Massey it was strictly enforced, lol . Been there, done that. 3 hr DT show is gonna be sweet  ;D

Hey folks,

I'll bet you don't have to worry about snagging seats for MH if you weren't able to secure them through the DT site. The floors all went but the balconies and galleries will be available tomorrow through FriendsFirst and then on Friday during the public sale.

I also managed to snag really decent seats for MTL and just grabbed floors for NYC to get the full "crowd experience" for at least one show.

Makes you wonder though, doesn't it? They could easily have added a second show at Massey or even booked something in Hamilton to catch the western NY state crowd and Toronto people that would be willing to see them a second night. Who knows? Maybe they do just that in the late summer/early fall.

BTW...is it just me or does anyone else get the sense that the Bell Centre gig may just be a DVD shoot? JLB has stated several times that they would consider a shoot there. Why else play a big venue like that but limit yourself to the standard music halls for the rest of the tour?

Sorry Jingle.boy.......didn't see your question until later.

Yeah I did put up $100 for FF. Sort of tough at this time of year but I figure I will see some other bands at Massey through the year as already their line-up is looking good for Q1. Plus it is my son's fisrt concert (he is a big DT fan now too) so I figured we would make it a grand experience and get some solid seats. I'll let you guys know very shortly if it was worthwhile.  ::)

hhhmmmm... if that's the best that the MH 'friends' get, I'm wondering if I'll be up on the third balcony come tomorrow morning.  I saw TSO from there a couple of years ago, and it was very uncomfortable.  The seats are so small up there, I literally did not have room to sit normally without spreading my knees apart, or holding them off the ground.  If my lap is 24" long, there's only 22" of leg room up there.  Guess there weren't a lot of 6'+ people back in the lat 1800s when it was built.

Sounds a lot like flying Air Canada.  ;)

I sat in almost the exact same seats for Yes years back and was quite satisfied. In Montreal we have seats in the stands but in the first row so I figured a bit of variety on perspectve wouldn't hurt.

Bought my ticket yesterday! Can't wait!

C$340 (fees included) is a hell lot to spend on this, and I am probably not buying the platinum ticket again, but since this is my very first Dream Theater concert, I figured I better experienced this and then next time just buy regular tickets.

Ok... kinda happy, but mostly peeved.

First, LiveNation FB confirms to me that there was no pre-sale from LN.  I go to Ticketbastard this morning, and they do in fact list that there was a LN presale yesterday?!?!  :wtf:

No biggie... as I log in to get tickets, and because I don't have any friends that like DT, I'm just getting a single seat.  RCF, aisle seats, rows D thru M are available.  Wahoo!  By the time I select row D, and type the make-sure-you're-human code, Rows D thru J are gone.  Unreal.  So, I end up with Row K.  The good news is, somewhere between D and K is the price drop point, so instead of it being $109, it was $83.

Overall, I'll take it.

This whole ticketing process seemed to be rather haphazard. Hopefully they will provide more clarity on future tours as to pre-sale dates and what the specifics are.

So do you guys think this gig will sell out?

The two other times I've seen them at Massey, it certainly seemed like it was a sell-out.  There may have been individual seats here and there that weren't filled, but it was certainly packed.

I got tickets with my roommate to this show!! We will be in the Gallery, in seats C-48 and C-49. 70-80% of the seats in the entire building look good based on the interactive seat planner, and those seats are included in that category. So freaking excited!

You're right, there isn't a bad seat in the house for listening or viewing.  But, if you're up on level 3, and taller than 6', it's going to be a bit of a physically uncomfortable experience.

I have never been to Massey Hall for a concert before. Is Right Side Floor bad? I know its the floor and I'm a few rows from the front pretty centred there but from the seating plans it looks like it is way off to the side. Is that true?

Yes.  Depends on your definition of "way".  You are completely outside of being in front of the stage, but bear in mind Massey Hall was built to be a concert hall - sound is awesome, sight-lines are good everywhere.  I sat in that area, about 12-15 rows back on the Score tour.  Not a bad location at all.

I've never seen DT at MH but I watched various other acts - mostly in the balcony and once in the Orchestra section. Not a bad experience to be had. Yes, the acoustics are really good and the hall has a sort of majesty (sorry guys... ::)) to it. I think you will be pleased when all is said and done.

It's my first time looking for last minute single ticket ... anyone have any suggestions? Should I risk waiting until the day of and hope a scalper lets a single go fairly cheap minutes before the show, or spend the cash and grab something off stub hub (which only has singles at the back of the upper balcony atm)?

Nice!  Most likely from the block that is held for friends/family that didn't get used. I got front row centre in Phoenix last tour the same way.

Guys if you haven't seen this interview with Petrucci-There goes any hope of a setlist change :( It's still good just wish certain songs were switched.

The North American Along for the Ride tour kicks off on March 20 in Toronto. Will you be making any drastic changes in the setlist, comparing with the setlist you perform in Europe?
No, the set’s gonna be the same and the way that we are doing things this time around it’s very – there’s a certain flow through the set and through the story. Everything has a meaning and a purpose, all of the songs that we chose, all of the visuals and everything. So, it’s more like a storyline that goes through the show. In order to deliver in a most professional, exciting and consistent way it was important for us to keep the same set, so it’s gonna be the same and I’m actually really excited to bring it in North America, because we’ve got incredible reactions to it here in Europe. It’s a very unique set, it’s a lot of music, it’s an evening’s worth, there’s three hours and it’s really intense. I can’t wait to bring this to North America – US, Canada, Mexico. It’s gonna be great.

I'm happy there are no changes to the setlist -- there are a few songs I'm not crazy about, but a hell of a lot of songs I am crazy about, and I'd like to keep those.  I'm sure the setlist will change for the 2nd leg, and that we'll hear the missing DT12 songs then.

Since you guys are first for North America, it would be fun if they shook up the set list a bit and maybe added/substitued the Bigger Picture, Surrender to Reason and/or Behind the Veil.  I think Behind the Veil would be killer as the opening to the second set.

The chances of a set list change a slim and none.

As tempting as it is to look at the recent setlists, I'm resisting the urge. Gonna go in blind, and hope for an awesome set :metal

It's awesome.

I'm happy there are no changes to the setlist -- there are a few songs I'm not crazy about, but a hell of a lot of songs I am crazy about, and I'd like to keep those.  I'm sure the setlist will change for the 2nd leg, and that we'll hear the missing DT12 songs then.
I definitely agree with them keeping the set the same for the first NA leg. However, if they keep it the same for the entire tour, whether they want to keep it as tight a production as possible or not, I won't agree with it. For the second legs of the tour, there definitely needs to be some changes plus the remaining 3 DT12 songs.

I'm 99% sure there will be changes for the 2nd European Leg. Whether they revert to the original setlist if they head to Australia, for example - where obviously they haven't played any of the songs so far - we'll have to wait and see.

I'm really fuckin nervous right now.  We're supposed to get some freezing rain here on Wednesday.  I'm flying home from Boston on Thursday morning, and if that weather delays my departure out of Boston, I'll go fucking apeshit.

Can anyone explain how the meet and great works? When/Where, etc. As much as you know about it. Thanks.

Never done a meet/greet with Dream Theater.  Did one with Kamelot though.  You show a couple of hours before hand (Kamelot was a 7:30 start; 6pm open for the meet/greet).  You've got some kind of ticket/confirmation, and they'll let you in early.  Can't see it working any other way really.  I just don't know what time DTs would be.  My ticket doesn't list a "doors open" time.

There's gonna be a line up for VIP customers, specifically. Then everyone's going to be let inside (at 5 PM, according to the email they send, which I assume you got), and someone will tell us exactly how things are going to go.

Let me ask you something, did you get your ticket yet?
Because I'm having a hard time remembering whether the tickets are handed out there on the spot along with the VIP badge, or whether the tickets are sent in the mail for the VIP customers. I still haven't gotten mine and I'm kind of panicking here, but now that I think about it, I don't remember if my ticket was mailed to me last time or not.

One thing that I do know, is that they sent me a shipment confirmation at the beginning of the month, but I'm wondering if that was just a glitch and something that was sent out to everyone who purchased.

I first got into them at the very end of 2008 when I was 14. I had so many chances to see them since then but the first one I really considered was the October 6th, 2011 show, which I never ended up going to. This really should have been my 4th show. XD

I know a setlist change is unlikely, but I can still hope for BTV being played. Regardless, this is going to be epic. Second row on JP's side. Can't ask for more.  :metal

That was my first DT show, and they covered Jacob's Ladder.  They always did a Rush cover when in Toronto (except on the Chaos in Motion tour for some reason... they just teased Xanadu).  That was a Portnoy thing though.  I wouldn't expect anything tonight.

Just about to leave the house.

tonight was my 12th DT show, and easily the best DT show I've attended. I had a great time at the meet 'n greet, Rudess thought I was LaBrie, lol. Unreal  ;D

James LaBrie stole the show in my opinion, absolutely flawless in his vocals, he nailed the high notes spot on, especially on The Mirror, Lie, Lifting Shadows, Scarred.

Illumination Theory, seeing that live was incredible.

I got to meet some who were seeing DT for the 1st time ever, hope your evening was special & you'll keep coming back, greatest band you'll see live in concert anywhere.

Thank You Dream Theater, you guys are the best, Raaaaawwwwkkkk  :metal  :metal  :metal  :metal :tup  ;D

Another amazing night. IT was the highlight and JLB blew me away in it. Love JP's new Majesty guitars and they look so much better in person. Pure lust for them now. These super humans just get better and better each time I see them. We are the luckiest fans in the world. 2 hours in the cold after the show was worth it for a quick pic w/JP and JMX. I feel so spoiled as a fan of this band. Can't come up with appropriate words yet again. Thank you DT for everything…  :hefdaddy.

This was my tenth time seeing them.

Anyone else hear the HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE mistake Mangini had during Enigma Machine? I honestly thought they weren't going to recover from that. Shows what I know.

Mangini's monitor went off as he was clearly messing with his ear plugs and really "dumbed down" the song. His time sigs were off too. This was all before his drum solo. But he recovered.

This was also probably the best-sounding DT to date. The setlist, while unchanged, was blatantly fantastic. It's obvious to me why I'll continue going to see these gents play live for many more years to come.

Yeah haha I heard the Mangini thing, it seemed like something funky was going on with his monitors. I don't think his time signatures were off though, he was just ahead by a couple bars. He was definitely playing it correctly, just a little ahead of the rest of the guys.

And yeah holy crap James was the best I've seen him yet (6th timer here). He was hilarious too, it's obvious he's getting more confidence as a frontman which is great. His performance was just so raw and powerful, especially during the Awake stuff. He destroyed the more growly/screamy stuff too. Phenomenal show, everyone who's still waiting to see them should get extremely hyped!

I also noticed Mangini's mistake in Enigma Machine, but he recovered. It was a pretty great moment actually!

So for some more details, some of my favourite moments. First one to mention is during the "Still awake, I continue to move along" section, a bunch of single white lights were spotlighted on James, more specifically on the base of his mic stand. He moved it to reflect the lights at each section of the audience. FUCK, that was awesome.

As mentioned earlier, James did the F during Illumination Theory and did it REALLY well. He also NAILED the "I spent so long trusting in yoooouuu!I trust you forgot! Just when I thought I believed in you" lines. He sang it similarly to LSFNY, where I sang the second part higher than on the album, and it sounded amazing. I was so impressed with him. Among the best of his performances of the tour so far. I was a bit worried that they would regain rust from the break, but it seems they took time to make it even better!

The crowd sing-along moments were awesome. My favourite was "one last time" during Finally Free. Speaking of Finally Free, for the first vocal section, James sat on Jordan's riser. That was a cool moment.

Before the concert started, I had this unmeasurable anxious nervousness. I couldn't wait! Once I saw them on stage, I couldn't believe I was actually witnessing it in person. The only thing I didn't like was as soon as The Enemy Inside started, there were a bunch of people blocking me who were just a couple minutes late. I missed seeing them play the very beginning! Otherwise I'm extremely happy with this show and I can't wait to see them again.

I'll try to remember other great moments after I get home, as I'm still in Toronto. I really can't pick a favourite moment, the entire night was a blast, easily on of the best moments on my entire life. I need to thank Dream Theater for putting so much effort into everything they do and providing such a great show!

As far as first dream theater concerts go, I don't think last night could have been any more awesome than it already was. James was on fire! Especially with the awake era songs. And as far as a video goes, there was a guy near by me who filmed the whole show on his giant phone, so I think there'll be something on YouTube in the next few days.

That is the downside of having a bigger and more elaborate show with video screen and animation, etc.  It makes it hard to mix up the setlist, though Rush still manages to switch out 2 or three songs.  But I never thought I'd see the day that DT maintained a 100% static setlist for an entire tour.  Hopefully on the second trip to Europe they'll start mix it up a little, mainly with the new songs they have yet to play live .  This really only matters to bootleg collectors like myself, but I guess more people notice now in the age of camera phones and youtube.

I'm really glad they kept the set list EXACTLY the same all throughout. It's such a perfect setlist that I would've been disappointed if anything was changed. Especially the Awake and SFAM selections. I hope it stays the same for the Boston show too. This show needs to be immortalized.

Another great moment was during Overture 1928 (might have been Strange Deja Vu) where Jordan's overhead mic is on the live feed, and he looks at it and makes funny close-up faces. Was really hilarious when I heard people laughing and then saw his face on the big screen. :lol

I will echo the sentiments that it was the best DT show ever.  I spent the last month running through their discography, including watching LALP, Score, L@B... and this was the best they've ever been - including SC and BCSL from the studio.  When I told RJ that it was the best since Score, that was on the basis that 1 week before RCMH, they did Toronto and James was a beast.  They did LtL as their encore, and he nailed - NAILED - that F#.

He was better on Thursday.  I only recall a couple of moments where he dialed it back a little.  Otherwise, he was full on.  I wasn't much of a fan of IT before the show, but now I'm convinced.  It was amazing, and I learned to appreciate the little interlude in the middle.

Mangini was another standout.  I didn't catch the fuckups others are referencing.  I did notice him emphatically shout "FUCK" to himself after one of the fills during the IT instrumental breakdown.  Otherwise, he's just so much fun to watch.  He makes the strangest movements and faces.  And I tell you, I would've though it impossible for one human being with four limbs to be able to make the sounds and move the way he does.  It's mind blowing.  MP is an amazing drummer, but MM is just technically a beast.  It's amazing how he stays true to the sound and feel that MP created, while putting his own stamp on the songs at the same time.

Loved the setlist.  My only beef is On The Backs of Angels.  Wish they'd swap that for one of the new tracks.  I'm a huge fan of Breaking All Illusions, so I don't mind seeing that a second tour in a row.  I've just had enough of OTBOA.  Throw in TBP or BTV.  Also, the opening of The Shattered Fortress seemed to be a bit of a hot mess - sound wise.  I'm not sure if they had to shake 2.5 weeks of rust off, but the musical intro was a bit of a sonic blur.

Production wise, it was great.  Blob's videos (especially the intro with The False Awakening Suite) were dynamite.  Although, I was half expecting him to have put some content into Scarred.  Boy, that would've been funny.   :lol  Intermission vid was hilarious, with (again) Blob's action figuur vids getting the best response.  I was hoping to see Under a Glass Lutjanus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkI4l41mgRY), but I'm guessing the audio wasn't solid enough.

They started right at 8pm sharp, and finished right at 11pm sharp.  Unbelievably, a couple kids just to my right left at the end of IT, even though (during the Awake set) James had specifically stated that that they were doing some SFAM songs later.

Looking forward to seeing them again in San Fran, and I don't mind at all that'll be the same set - they (and the set) were that good.

Another thing I was reminded of. On my way to Oakville (where I was staying) on the Go Train, I met 4 other people that were at the show on the second floor of the train. I think they most of them said it was their first DT show, or maybe all of them, can't remember. I forgot to ask any of them if they posted here, so I'm hoping that one of them is one of the people who posted here. XD They were all nice and we had a good discussion about the show and how great everyone did.

When I was getting off the train, there was a another guy with a DT toque on that said he was originally from Mexico and had moved to Oakville/Toronto and this was his 2nd time seeing DT, first time being in 2007.

When Mike messed up.. he recovered so quickly that I realized it was him the one that messed up until I read it here. It was really a quick recover and the song continued perfectly.

Holy shit, James.

Best Illumination Theory "hard vocal part" performance I've heard from him so far. So much power.

It's so awesome that there's a guy near the front row that was already clapping even before he did the F.

So cool to see him improving pretty much day after day. Really looking forward to the (hopefully) upcoming live release.

Before that song, he was already so good that I was half expecting him to attempt it, and I had no doubt that he would nail it. I was so freaking pumped when it actually happened! :hefdaddy
