Seems about time we make a new one for 2014. Definitely got my eye on Red Dragon Cartel - interesting to hear how it'll go with Darren Smith (drummer/part time vox for Harem Scarem) on it. I :hefdaddy the Jake E Lee Ozzy albums and I credit him along with Randy and Eddie for triggering my interest in playing guitar back in the 80s. Knowing how hard it is to come back after a long break (and how indifferent I am to all his stuff since Badlands) I am a bit cautious but hopeful.

No problems! :) It does involve a lot of updating, but luckily it's fairly spread out, so it's mostly mini updates with a few albums here and there. I'm gonna try to have the 2014 thread more updated, not that I slacked with the previous one, but hopefully it can get even better.

#Asia announces its new album GRAVITAS for release Spring 2014.
so, let's call it for the month of May (for the moment)
-
Blind Guardian is set to completely finish the production of their new album around may 2014, thus suggesting a new release next year.
Here is some info:
https://www.blind-guardian.com/2013/10/18/a-sign-of-hope/ (https://www.blind-guardian.com/2013/10/18/a-sign-of-hope/)
By announcing this live appearance we also secretly announced the intended termination of our album production for the end of May. We obviously have progressed quickly, in Blind Guardian terms that is. Indeed, everything looks very promising with regards to our songwriting and our production. We have good reasons to believe that the album is going to be completely finished at that point.

From Blabbermouth this morning.
Timo Tolkki's Avalon II - May 2014
-
Uh, I bought the first one, but not sure I'm gonna bother with the second.
Lyrics in the Land of the New Hope were spectacularly bad. :lol Like there are bunch of characters that always have "nothing more to say" and "this just feel so right". A good laugh, but isn't that helpful to the songs.
-
HOUSE OF LORDS brand new studio album entitled "Precious Metal" on February 21st in Europe and February 24th in North America.
-
Canadian theatrical hard-rockers Incura are extremely pleased to announce the release of their self-titled debut album on the 24th February 2014. Vocalist Kyle had this to say: “I’m beyond thrilled to have our album being released in Europe in February on InsideOut/CenturyMedia where talent and progressive rock is king! We can’t wait to bring Incura’s music to the European fans!”
Check out a lyric video for the track ‘Get The Gun’ here for a first taste of what to expect from the band: https://youtu.be/HRtGQnSSvqQ
Perhaps a mod could sticky this thread, and un-sticky the 2013 thread? I suspect we're not going to get anymore 2013 release announcements that we didn't already know about.
-
I'm extremely excited for Time II, and I guess it's about 90% sure it'll eventually be my aoty :lol :2metal:

The last couple of BLS albums haven't done much for me, but I'll check this one out.
-
BLS definitely has its peaks and valleys. He took some time on this one, so I'm hoping it's a worthwhile one. :-\
-
What's your favourite BLS album guys? I am a big fan of Zakk era Ozzy (mostly NRFTW thru Ozzmosis) but tbh I haven't heard anything by BLS that does much for me. I have the Kings of Damnation album (best of 98-04) which I haven't played as yet - would you think that has their better stuff on it? I honestly don't expect to like it but will give it a shot.
Even the last time I saw him play with Ozzy (Black Rain tour) I thought he was awful......................all about what a hero boozer he is and the tough man image but his playing had gone to shit.
-

Well, the most accessible of his BLS albums is "The Blessed Hellride." It also has Ozzy on vocals on one song. You could start with that one. I also love a lot of Zakk's more mellow stuff -- "Hangover Music" by BLS is more in this vein, and his more Southern rock side project "Pride & Glory" also is worth checking out.

Ok - thanks. I already have Pride and Glory and Book of Shadows (both bought at time of release) etc.......... it's more the BLS stuff I haven't bothered with.
-
Mafia, Stronger Than Death and The Blessed Hellride.
-
Wolfking just gave you the holy trinity of BLS to start with there. :metal
-
Thanks guys - all but Mafia are included on my compilation so I'll give that a shot and sample some off Mafia.
Cheers. ;D
-
If you dig all of that and want to go deeper his earlier stuff is more raw and my favorite of those is 1919 Eternal.

Not sure how I'd classify them. Hard Rock with progressive tendencies. Wiki calls them prog rock/prog metal. I'd say they're more rock than prog though. I'd say Cheat the Gallows is their best album.

Also, got this in my inbox today.
Pendragon will embark on a European tour during October and November this year, with five UK appearances included in the journey.
The dates will support the release of their tenth studio album, which the band are currently recording and is scheduled to be released in time for the live dates.
So, probably a September release.
And lastly, Dec Burke's FB feed updated the Brave New Sky release date:
... it WILL be out late summer, and we can't wait to tell you all very soon.

Nice, I wonder what direction they will take. Passion was a good follow up for Pure but i really hope they stir the boat and not go into full prog metal mode as it seems to be the case.

early 2015 - AudioPlastik - In The Head Of A Maniac
Sooo looking forward to this one!!!
"Bad Elephant Music is delighted to announce that ‘In The Head Of A Maniac’, the debut album from AudioPlastik, will be released on BEM in early 2015.
AudioPlastik, previously known as Alpha Flood/Brave New Sky, is a collaboration between respected guitarist and vocalist Dec Burke (Darwin’s Radio, Frost* and solo artist of this parish), guitarist/bassist Simon Andersson (Darkwater, ex-Pain of Salvation) and Richard West, keyboard player with Threshold. ‘In The Head Of A Maniac’ consists of thirteen anthemic songs with soaring melodies and which aren’t afraid to pack a punch – emphasising the ‘rock’ in progressive rock.
Dec Burke: “Really happy and excited to reveal that we have been signed and are working with BEM for the release of our debut album, and will soon be coming ‘atcha like Cleopatra”
David Elliott (BEM): “It’s great to be working with Dec, Simon and Richard on what we feel will be one of THE releases of 2015. This one is really going to blow your socks off – presuming you’re wearing them in the first place, of course!”
‘In The Head Of A Maniac’ will be released very early in 2015. The release will be preceded by a digital single, entitled ‘Now’, in November."
-
Only two years since they first announced the project! I was wondering what happened to this after they posted one single on YT - way back in October. I'll say this, their choice of band name gets progressively worse with each change. :D
Like Amadeus Awad's EON, I stopped holding my breath. I'll believe it when I have the album in my hands.

Seeing as we're creeping into 2015 , new Toto is expected first half of March.

Yeah I hear you... Their career started off with a series of unfortunate events.... Same goes for Amadeus.. He was actually ripped off by Timo Tolkki .. Hope it changes for both bands....

I don't know a thing about Tolkki, but given the shit he's been making lately, for some reason this doesn't surprise me in the least. He seems like a grade-A douche.

Available as a digital download from the BEM sales site and via iTunes and Amazon MP3, Now (backed with Leave Me Here) will be released on 17th November 2014. From Beardfish's FB:
Beardfish announce release of new album ‘+4626-COMFORTZONE’
Swedish progressive-rockers Beardfish have been hard at work on the follow-up to 2012’s ‘The Void’, and now they are pleased to reveal that their brand new eighth studio album ‘+4626-COMFORTZONE’ will be released in Europe on the 12th January 2015.
The band had this to say about the forthcoming album: "In this case the comfort zone is the invisible protective suit of negative thinking, almost like an entity of itself. It's been with you since birth: your parents and your teachers and your friends and your neighbours all teaching you the way the world works - this is how it is and will be and there's nothing you can do about it. The negative vibe is like a voice living inside of you, a companion through life. With time you start to like that voice and the place it takes you to: your comfort zone. I'm so sick and tired of it and I want to address it and maybe in that way start to work my way out of it"
The full track-listing for the album is as follows:
1. The One Inside Part 1 – Noise In The Background
2. Hold On
3. Comfort Zone
4. Can You See Me Now
5. King
6. The One Inside Part 2 – My Companion Throughout Life
7. Daughter Whore
8. If We Must Be Apart (A Love Story Continued)
9. Ode To The Rock'n'Roller
10. The One Inside Part 3 – Relief

I will leave this stickied for a bit for people who want to look back at 2014 and want an easy reference. If I forget to un-sticky it by the end of the month, somebody please remind me.
