Title: LieLowTheWantedMan's Roulette of Terror (WE'RE FINALLY DONE)
Post by: LieLowTheWantedMan on November 07, 2013, 07:30:52 PM
Welcome to my roulette of terror. Third one I've done, so I guess I'm no stranger to this. Anyways, I didn't realize I was coming up as quickly as I was so I guess I have no participants. Which means I'll need some volunteers! I will take 8 9 participants.

The players:
senecadawg2
Outcrier
Lolzeez
adace
Dark Castle
Shadow Ninja 2.0
elefantStone
Tyrias
Lucien

The scoring: I will give a rating out of 10. Simple. Might do a double round, who knows. :o

Last.fm: https://www.last.fm/user/DisgruntledPork

Forbidden bands:
I'm only putting bands I really like on this list. The list would be far too long if I put everything I like. Hell, it's far too long as is. :lol

Tips: I hate glam metal. I'm not fond of cheesiness, and power metal I'm pretty iffy with. If you're not sure I'll like it, send it to jingle.boy. If he likes it, odds are I won't. :neverusethis:

Anyways, anyone who's daring enough to join the roulette, say so!

How should we submit the songs? Youtube/spotify/Grooveshark ?
And can we send an arist that has already been sent in an earlier round (obviously, I#m asking this question for later in the roulette ;) )

Youtube or Grooveshark will be fine.

And hmm. I guess I'll run a banned bands list like some others depending on how some score.

So you guys kicked ass. Great start. Just saying not to expect scores to be this high all the time. ;) Y'all just did really well.

adace: Alcest - Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTM9x-fEMwo)
You just narrowly dodged the forbidden bands list here. :lol I am familiar with Alcest and do like them, but I accepted this song because I haven't given them a good listen in a while, and because this comes from the one Alcest album I have yet to listen to, although I do have it on my computer. :) Now onto the song. Well it's definitely the Alcest I remember. :lol This is definitely one of the better things I've heard of them though. The strummy guitar intro sets a nice tone that the rest of the song continues strongly. Neige's vocal melodies are beautiful as ever. Alcest by the numbers, but me likey.

8/10

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Alchemist - Letter to the Future (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SMJWbPNmi8)
Cool song really. The harsh vocals sound rather demonic, which is a nice touch. The spacey synth at about 1:07 was kinda strange to put in, but I didn't mind. :lol And every now and then some cool riffage would pop up (the 1:36 section :metal). Overall, solid tune. I didn't love it beginning to end, but overall strong send.

7.5/10

Lucien: Paul Winter Consort - Wolf Eyes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh9gnAex_A4)
Interesting choice to open the roulette. The saxophone (?) that the song is most focused on sounds rather whiny, but I thought it really set the song's mood, and gave the song a sort of unique flavour. I'll admit I thought it was boring my first listen, but after a couple listens I started to dig the whole atmosphere. The way more instruments gradually come in is another thing I really enjoy. Like I said, very interesting choice, but you did good. :tup

8.5/10

Outcrier: Akira Yamaoka - A Stray Child (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1yMmX_T2ms)
Speaking of interesting choices, here we have video game music. I knew the name Akira Yamaoka sounded familiar, and I thought I might have heard of him doing the soundtracks to the Silent Hill games. Sure enough, I was right about that. Never played the games myself, but the soundtracks are spoken of highly from what I know. Now about the tune itself? Holy shit, this was great. It started off as dark ambient, but then trip-hoppy drums joined the mix. All the instruments that came in afterwards were heavenly. Damn this was a nice song to just space out to. Seriously convincing me to download the soundtracks to these games.

9.5/10

Tyrias: Árstíðir - Heiðin (https://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Hei+in/3B5MXH?src=5)
Ahh, you're definitely going out of my genre palette here. I've never really gotten around to checking out Nordic folk music. This is leaving a nice first impression on me though. Beautiful song, with a very full sound to it. And the louder section gave me an amount of chills. It didn't sound unlike what I expected Nordic folk to sound like, but that's not a bad thing at all. Good choice.

8.5/10

Dark Castle: Twenty One Pilots - Guns for Hands (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu8s3ucBEL8)
I like to look into the artists background as I listen to them in these roulettes, and seeing this band described as both indietronica and pop rap definitely left me intrigued. :lol The pre-chorus is the highlight of this one for me. I really like it for some reason. The chorus itself is also very good though, as is the main synth line. :) I was waiting for a rap section to come too and it eventually did. :lol Honestly, don't think it fit so well, but it wasn't bad or anything. Overall, great tune.

8/10

elefantStone: Mew - Hawaii (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duwtTuyc6IU)
Mew is another group I'm familiar with, but having only really listened to Frengers I left them off the forbidden list. I also haven't listened to Frengers very much because I never really got fully into it, so I was skeptical going into the song. However, the song is a different story. This is seriously better than anything on Frengers to me (although Comforting Sounds is pretty damned good). The intro is cool as hell with that tribal-ish vibe, and the really catchy, singable melody. The stuff that comes after though (mostly the section at 2:15) is even better. Quite a change in the mood of the song, but still retaining sort of a sunny mood (at least I think so). It's a really beautiful section, and Bjerre, who's voice I never really liked a lot, actually makes this song something great. He fits so well. Awesome choice. Maybe I need to start listening to these guys more.

9.5/10

senecadawg2: Les Discrets - Ariettes oubliées (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvcgBgb8o0Q)
Yes, this was very Alcest. I liked the production better here though. The acoustic guitar had a really nice sound to it. I don't like the vocals as much as Neige's however, but they were still great. The sudden entrance of the distorted guitar was pretty damned cool. :metal Definitely some might fine blackgaze here.

8/10

Lolzeez: Leprous - Thorn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odySTKfpmFs)
To answer your question, yes I have heard Leprous. Only a couple songs though, no full albums. ;) This song was really cool though. It had a great sound, and I don't know how to describe why I felt that. Some neat melodies, and the harsh vocals were awesome as hell. :metal Loved the use of other instruments besides the conventional too. Maybe some day Leprous will progress beyond that band I like everything I hear from them but keep forgetting to fully check out. :lol

8.5/10

Outcrier and elefantStone take the initial lead.

Outcrier - 9.5
elefantStone - 9.5
Lucien - 8.5
Lolzeez - 8.5
Tyrias - 8.5
adace - 8
Dark Castle - 8
senecadawg2 - 8
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 7.5

Round 2: Send me something that'll make me wanna sing along. Doesn't necessarily have to be catchy, although that is a good example to follow. Something with a nice vocal melody you yourself like to sing along to even. :)

Another really strong round from you guys! Although not quite as much as last.

adace: Scar Symmetry - Morphogenesis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mebSi4PDC34)
I am slightly familiar with Scar Symmetry. I have a friend who likes them a fair bit, but never listened to a lot of their stuff myself. I think this is the song he showed me, but that was years ago, heh. This song is pretty decent. The chorus is fairly catchy, and I really loved the sudden burst of heaviness at like 2:32. A pretty strong tune.

7/10

Lucien: Rush - Clockwork Angels (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P8EOOvaISg)
Aha! Here's a band I bet some of you expected to be forbidden. Reason being I've only really heard much of a few of their albums and while I think they're pretty good, I never explored much because I didn't think they were as great as what everyone said. This is my first taste of the new Rush. My judgement, they actually did a very good job of modernizing their sound a bit while retaining the old Rush feel. This song has a heavy, almost metallic feeling to it, and I'm loving the aggressive bass tone throughout (which I've always deemed a strong point of their work). Maybe I'll listen to this album, as it's a nice sound. I still have my problem of not really liking Geddy's voice too much, but he doesn't really harm the song too much.

8/10

Dark Castle: MS MR - Hurricane (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sj684zcmzw)
Haha, funny thing this. The day after you sent this (I hadn't listened yet), my mom had the TV on the music playing channels and it came up. I instantly said "Hey, I'm supposed to be listening to this one!" and turned it up. She thought it was silly. :lol Anyways, a high point of this one for me is the production. I really like it. It makes a poppish song have a nice atmospheric quality to it. I could see myself listening to this in one of my chill moods for sure. Nice one. Better than your original choice I'd say. ;)

7.5/10

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Voyager - Iron Dream (In Memoriam Peter Steele) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43o1pFLcmsA)
A tribute to Peter Steele? Interesting. This one didn't really grab me first listen. I don't know why because there isn't much to it. The next listen I found myself tapping my foot along, so I suppose that's a good sign. :lol The band has an interesting sound. Proggy, yet has a nice, catchy beat to it. A strong chorus as well, definitely what I was looking for this theme. Well done!

8.5/10

elefantStone: Johnossi - Dead End (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIkigSf6a-A)
I see lots of comments saying this sounds like When You Were Young by The Killers. Similar chord progression, but I don't hear it otherwise. The riff itself is kind of oddly timed, but that's not a problem. I like the one guitar with an almost spacey tone to it. It's also decently catchy. I wasn't super moved by this one throughout the entirety, but it follows the theme and has its strong points.

7/10

senecadawg2: Arctic Monkeys - When the Sun Goes Down (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqkBRVukQmE)
Damn, that's a heavy accent. :lol Here's a band I've been recommended a bit but never really tried out. I like when it really gets going a lot, and how it sort of ends the way it begins. Another one that didn't click with me at first, but I really liked afterwards. Maybe I'll check 'em out.

8/10

Lolzeez: Foxygen - San Francisco (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq19haZ0w7s)
Golly gee, what is it with me and always preferring Beatles soundalikes to The Beatles themselves? I've never liked The Beatles a lot, although I do think Revolver is a great album. But the soundalikes always seem more enjoyable to me. This is no exception. Not even close to an exception. I can't put my finger on why, but I liked this song A LOT from the first listen. I downloaded the album even. It's not original or anything, it's just a really strong tune. Got stuck in my head from the first listen. Way to exemplify the round.

9.5/10

Tyrias: Guro von Germeten - Fa Fa (Come Stand Before Me) (https://vongermeten.com/)
You have a very interesting taste in music. :) I'm enjoying your sends, as they surprise me. This one is catchy itself. I'm loving the different instruments used, and she has a certain charismatic chanteuse feel to her voice that pulls me in. I don't have much more to say, but it's a cool tune!

8.5/10

Outcrier: Del Shannon - Runaway (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxXxhAlhNxk)
Wasn't expecting anything like this to pop up, but it's great. It has a pretty neat sound for its time. I don't listen to much music from the early 60s aside from jazz, so I was pretty interested in this one. It's a very strong pop song, with a neat keyboard solo. Definitely enjoyed this from first listen, and enjoy it now. Neat-o.

8.5/10

Lolzeez - 18
Outcrier - 18
Tyrias - 17
elefantStone - 16.5
Lucien - 16.5
senecadawg2 - 16
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 16
Dark Castle - 15.5
adace - 15

Lolzeez and Outcrier in the lead, but it's anyone's game at this point!

ROUND 3: Something strange. I love strange music. I'm not too strict on the terms of strangeness. Could be strange melodically, or just plain messed up. Just something that comes to mind when you think of strange. :)

Post by: LieLowTheWantedMan on December 08, 2013, 09:36:49 PM
Here come the results! This was another amazing round like the first. Probably due to the fact I love strangeness so much. :lol

Shadow Ninja 2.0: !T.O.O.H.! - Al-Amin (Aneb Jak Vycakat Jelito)
So this song was completely nuts. Which is obviously what I wanted. There are very few things I love more than absolutely chaotic metal. The vocals add to the weird factor too. They sound really impish. The riffing is awesome and really there was no part of this song that wasn't totally badass. Cool as hell man. Nice job.

854908435/10, but due to you forgetting what song you sent like a silly person, a 854908425 point penalty has been incurred, so your score is 10.

elefantStone: The Dismemberment Plan - What Do You Want Me To Say?
Aha! Here's a band I've actually been meaning to get into for a while that I haven't checked out yet. I went and downloaded this album after hearing this because it gave me a reminder. So I can definitely see the strangeness in this track and it's mostly in the verses. The guitar, bass, and vocals almost sound like they're playing different tunes at once! :lol It's a really cool effect, I liked! The lyrics are something I enjoyed about this song too, so big plus there. The chorus is nice as well, if not a little ordinary compared to the verses, which pretty much steal the show for me here. Good stuff.

8.5/10

Dark Castle: Glasser - Design
This woman loves her ass. :lol The song and video were both actually rather hypnotizing. The synth line was something I enjoyed, it had a futuristic feel to it. And she's a good vocalist. Maybe not totally off-the-wall, but definitely weird and unique in its own special way.

8.5/10

Tyrias: The Legendary Pink Dots - Russian Roulette
Ahh neo-psychedelia. More familiar ground for me this time around. The vocals actually didn't take much getting used to for me, I enjoyed them. :) The lyrics were weird, as is kind of expected of the genre often, but neat. The whole "you thought you counted" section was definitely my favourite part though. The atmosphere and the main vocal melody just gave chills. Nice stuff.

9/10

senecadawg2: The Sugarcubes - Eat the Menu
So I'm rather disappointed that I didn't know of this since I do like Bjork a fair amount. :lol The song wasn't what I expected, but it was nice. The lyrics were amusing enough to pay attention to, and the song was nice and fun. The male vocals were probably the weirdest part of the song, but they definitely added to it. Hearing her voice in this style was pretty interesting, but I enjoyed. :)

8.5/10

Lucien: Iluvutar - Late of Conscience
This band was sent to me in a previous roulette, but I never really went further. Anyways, the song had neat sections. Some nice guitarwork and keyboards for sure. It felt a tad long though honestly. There were a few sections I didn't enjoy as much. But the musicianship was neat, as it usually is in this kind of music. Maybe it's just because I'm listening to less of this sort of stuff lately.

6.5/10

adace: Lisa Gerrard - Space Weaver
This one was also a tad lengthy, but it was also very atmospheric and pretty sounding. Has this aura of ambience that almost reminds me of Global Communication, but perhaps a bit more active. She also has beautiful vocals. I think if this was condensed into something shorter it'd get a higher score. But I still certainly enjoyed this.

7.5/10

Lolzeez: No Joy - Hare Tarot Lies
I loves me a some shoegaze. Well good shoegaze. Some shoegaze is dull and unimaginative, but this stuff had a pretty unique sound to it I find. Almost like shoegaze and Warpaint thrown together. The chorus was probably the highlight, as it got stuck in my head almost immediately, but the rest was great too. And the music video was really nice. The whole song is beautiful.

9/10

Outcrier: Chrome Hoof - Sea Hornet
From the intro of this song I was expecting some glitchy weird techno-ish stuff to emerge. Instead it eventually turned jazzy, which I thought was neat. Almost Jaga Jazzist like, but done quite differently. It was a fun, busy song. Not a ton to say but I liked. :)

8/10

Lolzeez - 27
Outcrier - 26
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 26
Tyrias - 26
elefantStone - 25
senecadawg2 - 24.5
Dark Castle - 24
Lucien - 23
adace - 22.5

Shadow Ninja 2.0 suddenly enters the mix up top!

Round 4: Send me something with sweet guitar. I play guitar, and while I gravitate more towards bass now, ordinary guitar still has a place in my heart. So send me something totally awesome, whether it be cool riffs, beautiful acoustic playing, or something with a rad solo.

elefantStone: Joey Eppard - Lay Down the Law
So funny thing here. When he first said the title of the song, I thought he sounded like Claudio Sanchez. And while reading on him he's the brother of Coheed and Cambria's drummer. 3 is also a band I know of but I never really listened to them. Anyways, the song. I really liked the fingerpicking here, so it's got me in the guitar department. :) The song itself is pretty catchy and has a nice edge to it. Funky stuff dude.

8/10

Lolzeez: Neil Young - Heart of Gold
As a Canadian, it's probably a crime this song wasn't forbidden. :lol It's on the radio lots so I've heard it a fair bit, but I've never really "listened" to it so I guess it gets a pass. And now that I'm actually listening, I enjoy it a lot! It's got the nice vocal melody I remember, but really listening I notice a lot more. The guitar is nice, and the harmonies at the end are neat. :) Great song, and I really need to listen to this guy more. :lol

7.5/10

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Ark - Just a Little
Aw yeuh. This song was cool as hell. I actually preferred the bass to the lead guitar here. As a bass player, mad props to him. It was one of many things that kept me invested in the song. The guitar itself was really neat so that helps. The fast-paced flamenco style was fun to hear. The chorus was abnormally catchy, something that a lot of prog bands miss out on. Another awesome send man!

9.5/10

adace: Scale the Summit - Odyssey
Scale the Summit is a band I've never given a proper chance. For some reason I always thought they were a metalcore group, but I guess I was wrong. :lol This song was awesome! The heavier parts were really cool, but the softer part was the best. Beautiful melody there. No vocals, so can't comment there. Yeah, awesome choice.

8/10

Lucien: Pendragon - The Edge of the World
Here's a band I haven't listened to in forever. Lots of these sort of lengthy prog tracks I always wait for the heavier parts after the softer parts because those are best. I actually preferred the softer stuff here. The guitar was just :heart :heart :heart. The spoken word was great too. Spoken word can be cheesy often in these sorts of songs, but I liked it. Yeah, neato fresh.

7.5/10

Tyrias: Mumford & Sons - Broken Crown
This is a band I've only heard a few songs of. I love the songs, but for some reason never dwelled further. This band really gets too much criticism, and this song is a good example. Sure it's not super unique. But it's just a really good song. The guitar is great and adds a lot. The vocals are awesome as always with this band. And I should get an album so I can defend their criticisms more accurately. :lol

8/10

senecadawg2: Journey - Of a Lifetime
Ballsy send here, seeing as I dislike every Journey song I've heard. ;) You were right though, this is different. Like really, really different. And I liked it a lot! The guitar was really awesome. Steve Perry isn't here, which is another big plus for me. :lol Nothing wrong with this tune. Maybe I'll try the album. :tup

9/10

Dark Castle: Skeletonwitch - More Cruel Than Weak
Another band of which I've heard a few songs, like them, but never dwelled further. First of all, I know Baizley art when I see it. Love that guy's art! :metal The song itself is sweet too. I love Skeletonwitch's blend of black and thrash metal. The soft intro is just beautiful, and everything afterwards is :metal :metal. Cool one!

9/10

Outcrier: Lô Borges - Trem de Doido
Alright there Mr. Noncaringpants. I'm sorry you don't care because your song kicked ass! ;) I love hearing more foreign sounding stuff, and this one had really cool guitar and nice vocals. The production was nice and almost relaxing in sound. This is some nice stuff to chill to. Good stuff.

9/10

Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 35.5
Outcrier - 35
Lolzeez - 34.5
Tyrias - 34
senecadawg2 - 33.5
elefantStone - 33
Dark Castle - 33
Lucien - 30.5
adace - 30.5

Shadow Ninja surges up to the top!

Round 5 for anyone who cares: To compensate for my terrible attempts at punctuality, this is a DOUBLE POINTS OPEN ROUND WOOO! Whatever I would give originally is double, so no .5s here either. Gives Lucien and adace a change to get into the mix. I guarantee I will be quicker this time. 100% guarantee. I am sorry guys.

Glad you enjoyed StS. I highly suggest you check out the rest of their album The Migration. It's one of my favorites of 2013 and their best work yet imo.

Btw, what's the theme for round 5?

Post by: LieLowTheWantedMan on January 12, 2014, 03:46:11 AM
So my laptop broke YET AGAIN. But I have persevered! Here are your results.

Tyrias: ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Life
I actually am slightly familiar with this band. I know the album Source Tags & Codes, but that's about it. So not enough to be forbidden. :) Anyway this song was pretty great. :D Really catchy and had a nice unique sound to it. Best part for me was the female vocal outro though. It sounded really nice. Solid submission.

18/20

Lucien: Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5 Finale
Ahh classical music. This is a first for this roulette! I seem to get one classical submission per roulette. :lol This one was all over the place, which made it great to listen to. Really intense overall, with a soft middle section. I honestly suck at talking about classical music so not much more to say. :lol Good tune.

17/20

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Steam Powered Giraffe - Brass Goggles
This song was right cool. :metal Catchy cabaret-infused music is something I like a lot and this band pulls it off nicely. Shame they aren't more well known or I'd probably be very familiar with them by now. ;) Nice one.

17/20

adace: Enslaved - Fusion of Sense and Earth
I've had this band on my computer forever but haven't gotten around to them. From what I understand they were once black metal but are now more prog metal. This is definitely a prog one. And a great one at that. :metal Lots of cool riffs and fine musicianship. All you could ask for from a heavier prog metal tune. Nice stuff.

19/20

Outcrier: Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle
The highest point of this song for me was probably the production. Really lush and polished in a way that complimented the rest of the song perfectly. It had some sweet bass in it too. :D It was a really full sounding song, which I enjoyed a lot.

17/20

senecadawg2: Gallowbraid - Stone of Remembrance
You compared this to Agalloch, which is a great comparison to make. I definitely got this feel. Not sure how to describe how I got that feeling, but it gave me that kind of atmosphere. And having an atmosphere like Agalloch is a wonderful thing. They're one of my favourite metal bands for that reason. The outro was really amazing I found. Not sure why but it was my favourite part and it really sealed the song up nicely. Awesome send dude.

19/20

Lolzeez: Morphine - Thursday
This song was just plain catchy. It had almost a post-punky feel in ways but a jazz rock feel too. I love both of those things, so this was an awesome listen. Not sure how I've never heard this band. Don't know how to go beyond what I said but nice send! Loved it.

17/20

Dark Castle: Nachtmystium - Addicts
So this song managed to be awesomely heavy but it also had this element of catchiness to it. A winning combo for sure. :metal Like it was overall a dark song, but still had nice melodies that stuck with me for sure. So yeah I definitely enjoyed that. Strong send for sure.

18/20

elefantStone: From Monument to Masses - Deafening
I definitely know this band name. It sounds so familiar. However I don't know their music. And this was quite an introduction. Post-rock is one of my favourite genres, and this song fuses it with some neat electronic elements. The voice samples worked for the song as well. They weren't used how, say, GY!BE uses them, but they do manage to compliment everything well enough. Neat song!

19/20

senecadawg2 - 52.5
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 52.5
Outcrier - 52
Tyrias - 52
elefantStone - 52
Lolzeez - 51.5
Dark Castle - 51
adace - 49.5
Lucien - 47.5

We see some changes here, most notably senecadawg surging to the top and the top 7 being super close. :lol

Round 6: Send something bright. Take what you will from that. There is dark music, and there is bright music. Let's see what you can do with that. ;)

So yeah sorry about that. My other laptop also stopped working, but now my good one is back so I can do this. :lol

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Jonsi - Go Do
Yeah I think I've heard this in a commercial before. I think maybe the full song too but I'm not sure. So since I can't recall I can let this pass. :lol It's not exactly Sigur Ros calibre, but that's not expected since Sigur Ros is one of my favourite bands. This song was pretty fun. A lot more fast-paced and poppy than SR. And most certainly bright. As for quality I enjoyed it a fair bit. Good one.

7.5/10

Lucien: Frost* - Toys
Frost* is a band I'm sorta familiar with. I know their album Milliontown and think it's okay but not great. This song is pretty different from that I find. Reminds me of Fair to Midland even. And since I love Fair to Midland that's a good thing. The song was upbeat, incredibly catchy,  and was overall awesome. Nice one.

9/10

adace: The Daysleepers - Release the Kraken
This song was very hypnotic productionwise. Which I guess makes sense in shoegaze, but strangely enough while they are considered shoegaze I didn't get the same feel. Which honestly in modern shoegaze is a very welcome thing as many bands sound similar. And it did have a nice dream poppy brightness so you got that covered. Neato fresh. I'll listen to your other two things later. ;)

9/10

senecadawg2: David Gray - Shine
I downloaded an album by this guy soon before my laptop crashed actually, so I lost that. But oh well I can get it back. I loves me some good folk and this was no exception. The lyrics were really good and his vocals were nice as well. I should definitely redownload that album. :)

8.5/10

Tyrias: Biffy Clyro - The Joke's On Us
Yum another very British vocalist. :lol I've had this album downloaded for quite a while but never listened to it. Shows I have way too much to keep track of. :lol It was a right good tune. A real head bobber I suppose. Me likey.

8.5/10

Dark Castle: Man Man - Head On (Hold On To Your Heart)
Damn how come I haven't heard of these guys. This was awesome. :D The chorus was incredibly catchy, the instrumentation was nice, and I enjoyed every bit of this. Definitely repeated immediately after the first listen. :lol I'm definitely getting something by these guys. Amazing choice mang! You get the second 10 of the game.

10/10

elefantStone: Of Machines - It Must Belong Somewhere
Jesus christ that clean vocalist hurt my vocal cords just listening to him. He wails like crazy. :lol High pitched and just belted. Nothing wrong with that of course. Anyways this isn't typically my kind of metal but I actually enjoyed this. It was instrumentally and vocally more interesting than similar bands. So despite not being my thing it still worked.

7.5/10

Outcrier: The Evpatoria Report - Prognoz
Ouu a 14 minute track. Ballsy send there. This is another band I'm familiar with but both haven't listened to enough and it has been so long that I let this slide. Anyway, hard to go wrong with post-rock. A genre I love tons. The Evpatoria Report follows many of the conventions without sounding too conventional if that makes sense. Not sure how to describe that. :lol But I liked this a lot. Different getting such a long song in a roulette but good choice!

8.5/10

Lolzeez: The Moody Blues - Another Morning ღ A Childs World, After All
I haven't heard this band in forever. :lol I remember the Disney-ish orchestral sort of arrangements. It works with the music, and isn't something usually used in rock. The non orchestral parts I prefer though. Catchy vocals and nice harmonies. This is often called the first prog album but I've listened to it so little and so long ago I should be ashamed, ha. Good one though.

8/10

Rankings:
Dark Castle - 61
senecadawg2 - 61
Outcrier - 60.5
Tyrias - 60.5
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 60
elefantStone - 59.5
Lolzeez - 59.5
adace - 58.5
Lucien - 56.5

ROUND 7: Lucky number 7. I think this will be the final round since I've probably overstayed my welcome at this point and 7 is a good number of rounds anyway. :lol I'm actually going to think a bit on how this round will work though. :) Will return.

Jónsi is getting played on commercials now? I should start watching TV again. :lol
Haha it was a while back actually. 2011 Ford Explorer commercial.

I'm glad you enjoyed the song! Out of curiosity, which David Gray album had you downloaded before?
White Ladder.

Ah! White Ladder is certainly his greatest commercial success, and for good reason,  but they're all great. You should check out his earlier stuff too, particularly if you like the song from last round

ROUND 7: So I've decided to keep this sorta simple. Wager up to 15 points. If your song scores 8 or higher, you win those points. If lower, you lose them.

Also, since this is the end and for the sake of having a theme, the song must be an album closer. :D

So what if both Dark Castle and I wager 15 points and each score at least an 8? I assume a tie breaker round?

There's no deadline either.

But you've gotta realize that taking a week+ to pick a song and delaying stuff even further just slows down everything, including others starting their roulettes, right?

Like I'm not trying to bust your chops man, but eyeh  ;)

Not my fault if i have adjusted to the pace of this roulette, it would take long anyway even if i had sent something early.

'adjusting to the pace of the roulette' seems like a kind of lazy route to take. If you're not into playing at a reasonable pace, why sign up to begin with?

Of course, if you're not the only one then no harm done. But still, I would like to start my own roulette soon, and these delays can be a little frustrating on that front.

Give me a break... If this roulette did go fast as the one from Jaffa, then i would play at a reasonable pace.
Of 7 rounds, there was 2 or 3 that i took more time to sent (because i had some problems with my PC).

So you're saying that you would play at a reasonable pace if it was moving at a reasonable pace, while ignoring the fact that a large part of the slow pace is due to slow sending? Hmm.. Okay  :justjen

No, it's not. There was rounds like 3 and 4 that took two to three weeks after everyone sent their songs (LieLow had his problems though).

EDIT: Round 5, when everyone didn't have any problems, was very fast, just one week.

NEVER

Jk here we go:

Shadow Ninja 2.0: Mirrorthrone - So Frail
I liked the clean vocals quite a bit, so they weren't just nothing special to me. ;) The highlight was still the harsh though. You were right, that guy is great at it. When the piano joined the heaviness it was awesome. :metal Finally showed the avant-garde part a bit at least there. :lol This song was epic as hell. I'd give it a 9/10, so you get your wager of 15 points.

Dark Castle: Inter Arma - Sky Burial
So this is from another album on my long list of "albums I have on my computer but have yet to listen to". This song was pretty lengthy at 13 minutes, but it definitely warranted its length. Not much filler, and nothing really leaving me uninterested. It was great, sludgy black metal. Fun stuff. :) I give it an 8.5/10, and you also wagered 15 points.

Lolzeez: The Gaslight Anthem - The Backseat
This song actually got taken down before I could listen to it, but luckily I was able to find out what the song was, relocate it, and listen anyway. :lol Anyways, I've heard this band's name a lot, but that's it. Nothing about the sort of music they play or beyond that. The song was good! It was nice and catchy. A simple song, but it worked. You get exactly 8/10, and your 15 points.

senecadawg2: Ne Obliviscaris - Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise
Another band I have that I have yet to listen to! Anyways, the song had lots of cool moments. My favourite being the entrance of the violin. It had really good drumming and guitar too. Overall though, it may have been a tad long for my taste. So as a result it gets 7.5/10. Sorry dude, you lose your 15 points. :(

Lucien: Vangelis - Albedo 0.39
You're actually wrong and I have heard Vangelis before. ;) Not this though. This song was pretty interesting. It definitely set a cool atmosphere. I know Vangelis has made soundtracks before, and you can definitely hear that sort of thing here. It was a neat, interesting song, but it didn't really do a ton beyond that so it also gets 7.5/10. You lose your 15 points, but thanks for the send anyway because it did leave me interested in the rest. :)

Tyrias: Leafblade - Portrait
Wow, I'm kinda disappointed I didn't know about this group. This was really beautiful. It started out feeling like Devin Townsend's Ghost but eventually evolved into something a bit different and hypnotic. The vocals are great as I'd expect and the acoustic sections were awesome. Gonna give this 9/10, so you acquire 15 points. :)

adace: ††† - bi†ches brew
I've heard about this project, but have yet to listen! I like Deftones, so it was nice to get a taste of this. Almost sounds like NIN. I like NIN, so that helps a bit. ;) Overall it was a decent song. Not much else to say IMO. I'll give it 7.5/10, but you chose to be a bit more conservative and only lose 7 points. ;)

Outcrier: Caribou - Niobe
Hmm I THINK I've heard of this guy before but I'm not totally sure. Looks like he's from my province. :o This was a really fun tune. It had a nice groove to it and built up nicely to certain section. :) It had a certain atmosphere too that I really dug. I give this 8.5/10, so you acquire 15 points.

elefantStone: Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland
Now here was one I was interested in hearing. I dislike every Bruce Springsteen song I've heard on the radio a fair bit. :lol But I never went beyond his radio stuff so I wouldn't know. This song was a hell of a lot better than the other stuff I've heard. Quite a lot longer, and it gave it a lot of time to try out lots of stuff. It had a really neat sax solo and the intro was awesome I thought. :) The outro was cool as well. So you actually managed to pass here with 8/10. You get 15 points. ;)

Dark Castle - 76
Outcrier - 75.5
Tyrias - 75.5
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 75
elefantStone - 74.5
Lolzeez - 74.5
adace - 51.5
senecadawg2 - 46
Lucien - 41.5

Dark Castle wins the gold medal and Outcrier and Tyrias both get silver medals. ;) You all introduced me to some neat stuff though. Thanks for participating and sorry about all the inconveniences that we encountered. But I had fun, so I hope you guys did too. :)
