WELCOME TO LOLZEEZ'S ROULETTE (v.2) EVERYONE! So um yeah. This will be starting as soon as someone finishes their own roulette. So I got my time to shine! So here are some rules:
- Anyone can participate. Until I got more than 15 contestants. Cause that's just too much to handle.
- The roulette will be 9 rounds. A bonus might be added.
- Round 9 is gonna be just like my previous roulette. Basically, every participant will choose the theme for someone else. You can make really difficult themes like "A Song About Mayonnaise." or something generic like "Prog Metal". It's up to you!
- You can send me songs as long as you want. But if it's more than 20 minutes,I have the right to stop listening and shut off the song. (No Swans - The Seer please.) Edit from months later: Wtf Lolzeez, you like Swans now. Especially that album.
- You may send a song from an artist previously used. It doesn't matter. But If I really like a song,I will put the band in my "Discovered Bands" list which means you won't be able to use that band again. Sorry.
- Believe it or not,you CAN ignore a theme! You can just send anything you want! But,you have to tell me that you're not going for the theme and you will be scored out of 5 instead of 10. But still,it could be useful! Better than nothing!

ooohhh... yummy list of participants. And with RJ being on vacation, someone might actually have a chance to win! :lol
Looking forward to improving on my mid-place finish... so long as there isn't a death metal round again, I should be ok.

Oh boy. You're playing in my roulette and I'm playing in yours, simultaneously! Here comes the bribery and blackmail!

Nice to be in a roulette again.
You sent the longest songs in mine, so I think I'm going to use the same tactic. A sure key for a victory :lol.

Round 1 Results!
Onno: The Aristocrats - Culture Clash
First time I heard these guys,I thought they were okay. I do appreciate the talent but not much really stood out. I haven't heard their new album yet though. This was quite cool though. I like the calm sections of the song much more though. Really groovy stuff right there. But yeah, this stuff is either hit or miss for me. And this time,a decent hit.
7.5/10
?: Paradise Lost - Requiem
I was quite surprised with this believe it or not. The song was quite heavy but it was also quite melodic. It also had an epic atmosphere. Nice touch. I really liked the guitar work and everything just sounded very solid. Wow. Well this is going to the "discovered bands" list I guess! Enjoy your stay there!
9/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: Gentle Giant - In A Glass House
I've listened to this band before. I own like 5 of their albums in fact. :lol I just never got to them. Only one that I fully know is Octopus. And that's an awesome album. So,going in this I knew that I was gonna like it. And I did! The violin is a really nice touch as always. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the vocalist, the instrumental work definitely makes up for it. Also,DAT COWBELL. Yeah,I probably should listen to this band more often…
8.5/10
So close to getting in the "discovered bands" but I just wasn't too sure… Sorry man,I liked ?'s song more. And plus,I already knew about this band. I own some albums too! So yeah…
Rattlehead: Uriah Heep - Look At Yourself
DAT ORGAN! Errrm… Anyways,I've been looking for this album on vinyl for a while. Still no luck… (At least one in good condition…) Anyways, this is an awesome album opener for an awesome album. I haven't heard of anything else from this band though. So I guess this IS going on the "Discovered Bands" list! Which means, yes. You do get a good score.
9/10
MoraWintersoul: 65daysofstatic - The Distant & Mechanised Glow Of Eastern European Dance Parties
Wow. This is like Post Rock meets Electronic. I certainly was not expecting this from you. This sounds really futuristic and pretty awesome! Even though it's the first freaking round, we almost have a perfect score. Gentlemen, watch out.
"It's the first song,chill out."
9.5/10
Nekov: Demians - Earth
It's a decent track. I like the guitar work and everything but it's a little underwhelming. And the song drags and drags… The song is quite catchy but like I said,I was a little underwhelmed. Sorry man :/
6/10
Elite: Alt-J - Taro
You told me to listen to this as much as I can. And I understand why. First time I heard it,It dragged on and didn't grab me as much as I thought. The second time was a little better. But the third time was fucking amazing. Also,I hope everything went fine with the story you gave me. :) Discovered band? To be honest with you, this isn't that much of a discovery for me. I've heard like 3 other songs from them before and quite liked them. I'm still gonna give you a good score but the band won't make it on the list of "Discovered Bands". Also, you can thank the music video for keeping me interested the first/second time I was listening to the song.
9/10
Senecadawg2: Thrice - A Song For Milly Michaelson
I've heard of these guys many times before. I just never gave them a shot. And yes,I did what you did. I laid down and listened to this on loop for like half an hour. I usually don't like it when a riff repeats itself throughout the song. This was an exception. It kinda added to the atmosphere. Anyways, wasn't Thrice a post hardcore band? *looks up another song* YES! I actually preferred this song. The song was called "Burn The Fleet". Now that would have gotten an even better score than this one. Now the reason this isn't getting a really high score is,this isn't really something that moved me. Yes it did make me "float" and feel weird. But it never gave me some satisfaction. But after listening to Burn The Fleet I kinda wanna hear more. This is a difficult choice. But I'm really sorry. I don't think this band is going on the list just yet for me.
8/10
Zantera: Alcest - Ecailles De Lune Pt. 1
Now I like some shoegaze in my metal. (Deafheaven was one of my favorite releases this year.) And I also like my metal when it's got a little atmospheric kick to it. (Cult Of Luna,The Ocean,Katatonia and a very recent addition,Paradise Lost.) But man,why didn't anyone tell me how good this band is? This is some Top 50 albums shit! The louder second half was just amazing. I have to check these guys out.
9.5/10
Ruba: Tori Amos - Leather
A singer songwriter so I knew what to expect. This was quite nice. Nothing amazing or anything. But I liked it. Her voice is alright and the instrumentation is quite nice. You get a decent score.
7/10
Dr. DTVT: Arena - Smoke And Mirrors
I should have said this before. I'm not the biggest fan of Neo-Prog. I can't get into the genre. It just sounds cheesy and really mediocre. This doesn't change my mind. I also found the chorus rather dull. I just don't get it. I do like the keyboard and guitar playing. It's just that I don't like most Neo-Prog (Besides that one good band that's already in my banned list…)
4/10
Jingle.Boy: IQ - Dans Le Parc Du Chateau Noir
Wow,coincedence… Another Neo-Prog band! And guess what? I actually really liked this song! It kinda reminds me of The Lamb era Genesis. Dark and freaking badass. It kinda calms down in the middle with acoustic guitar. I think this could be awesome on some winter day. Oh and there is an incredible guitar solo. It's awesome. Discovered band indeed.
9/10
Scorpion: Dog Fashion Disco - The Hitchhiker
Wait,I thought I had Mr. Bungle in my banned list? Oh… Different band… Well the vocalist sounds a lot like Mike Patton. And the song just sounds like a watered down version of Mr. Bungle. It's alright. But musically,it's not even close to Mr. Bungle. I didn't like the intro that much. (The video had St. Anger in the related videos ffs.) The intermission is weird and a little unnecessary, but I like the silliness. The chorus is quite good though. But still,If I wanna listen to Mr. Bungle,I do that. The score is a little low I know but I also need to be in the mood for Mr Bungle-ish stuff. Sorry dude. It'll prob grow on me some day.

NEXT TIME,ON LOLZEEZ'S ROULETTE...
Send me a song fully acoustic. I got an acoustic guitar like 2 days ago. I'm trying to play some songs that aren't either Neil Young or A Horse With No Name from America. Also,I'd love it if the songs are easier to play. It won't effect if the song is difficult or anything,I just wanna learn some easy songs. Oh and btw, the F chord can go f- itself.

inb4 someone sends Smells Like Teen Spirit or Wonderwall.
Well,I can play the intro for Wonderwall. And I also think that the song is a rotten pile of garbage. Smells Like Teen Spirit bores me. So I guess they would both get like 3/10 from me. Don't give me that pleb stuff please. :rollin
-
But.. you want something easy to play!

I like the theme, I'll send later today!

Erm... Not really. Look, just give me something acoustic. It'd be cool if I can play them but still, that doesnt effect the score.

I was expecting that from your post in Elite's roulette but I'm still disappointed. I'll go through my library, acoustic is not an easy pick.

Incredibly and ironically, I've been listening to my "Ain't Got No Rhythm" playlist for the last hour or so. I got lots to draw from. Will try to send tonight/tomorrow, but I'm traveling on business, so no promises. Is there a deadline?

I'm regretting not sending Alcest myself. It was on my list, but I guess Zantera beat me to it. Such a fantastic sound...

Speak for yourself! I had lots to draw from. Sure, 95% of my catalog was out the window, but I had easy 50-60 songs to pick from. So long as every round isn't this limiting (like, the way Nick did his), I'm ok with one very narrowly scoped theme.

ROUND 2 RESULTS
Zantera: The Tallest Man On Earth - Love Is All
I'm not a big fan of these vocals. But I gotta admit, the song is freaking beautiful. I like the lyrics and everything. It's just that the vocals could be better. I heard that people compare him to Dylan. Well,I'm not a fan of Dylan. But I liked this. Just "liked".
7/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: The Tallest Man On Earth - Leading Me Now
Oh this guy again… Well, more competition is always fun! The vocals here are a tad better. I prefer this over Love Is All. But still,I don't get what's mind blowing about this.
7.5/10
Scorpion: Al Di Meola - Mediterranean Sundance
I know this song. But I can't blame you for sending it. I rarely listen to Al Di Meola. But,this is good. It's a little more on the wankery side but still,I like this guy's work. I'd say that this was a really safe choice. But It worked. Good job.
8.5/10
Senecadawg2: David Gray - Shine
Sounds good. That's really it. :lol I like his vocal work. It's better than TTMOE that's for sure. And yeah…
8/10
Ruba: Bruce Dickinson - The Arc Of Space
Wow. I never thought Dickinson's voice would fit this kind of music… Well,It does. The intro was nice and the short guitar solo was nice too. Well, your score is gonna be a little higher than the previous round that's for sure, but I wouldn't call this a discovery just yet.
8.5/10
?: Antimatter - A Portrait Of A Young Man As An Artist
I've already listened to two albums from this band. But they didn't click with me. Now,I feel like an idiot. This is an awesome song. It really is. And so far,the best song I've received this round. Thanks Ville. I'll give this band a more serious listen sometime. But It's not going to the "discovered bands" since this isn't the first time I heard this band. Let's see if they click this time.
9/10
Jingle.Boy: Everygrey - Madness Caught Another Victim
You were right. The vocals are indeed hit or miss. It's kinda what made the song and what killed it. The song is okay. I didn't mind it,but I didn't "like" it. I wasn't moved by it.
6/10
Rattlehead: Thrice - Stare At The Sun (acoustic)
Believe it or not,I had heard the original version like 5 minutes before receiving your submission. And I prefer this version. It brings much more emotion to the song and everything. Now I'd add these guys to the "discovered bands" list but um… I'm alrea- No. Fuck it. Thrice is on the list even though this isn't a score more than or equal to 9/10. Cause I want some other bands and I already started to check out more from this band. :lol
8/10
Nekov: Vamp - Tir N'a Noir
Errrr… I like it. I don't think I can say anything more.
7/10
Elite: Magic Pie - Endless Ocean
I liked it. There really isn't much to say about these songs… I really liked when the drums came in though.
7.5/10
Onno: Rammstein - Los
I like the way they used the word "Los". Very poetic eh? Well, the song was good but there's one thing with Rammstein that I can never like. The vocals. It's just ugh. It's not cause it's not english or anything. It's just too um… low pitched. But the song was good. Sadly the vocals dragged it down for me.
6.5/10
Dr. DTVY: Andy McKee - Drifting
Wow. This guy has some major talent. But I have one problem. I think the song could have been better if it was just the guitar as well,a guitar! Now it's impressive, yes but still,It can be way better if all the percussion was removed. But still, the gimmick was cool and the song was good too. 1 point extra for being acoustic as fuck. :rollin
7+1/10
MoraWintersoul: Sonata Arctica - Mary Lou
Okay,I've heard this song before. I remember liking it. And I still like it. The lyrics are kinda weird but I don't care cause the vocals are really too nice. This is really close to going on my list but I'm not a big fan of the band to begin with. I guess you made a good song choice from them. :tup

THEME FOR ROUND 3!
Post something. But not THAT post.
Post Rock
Post Metal (Bands like Neurosis,Rosetta,Isis,Cult Of Luna,The Ocean and more. And please don't post those bands. I've already listened to those bands and like most of them. New bands please.)
Post Hardcore
Post Punk
Send me something good that belongs to one of those genres. Also,I'm VERY picky about Post Punk so if you send some Post Punk that I love, you'll get bonus points. Worth it? Maybe.
Also, bonus points for Post Rock songs that make me feel sad and terrible. I love that atmosphere in Post Rock.
-
As someone who listens to a shit-ton of all 4 of those genres, this is my time to shine. :lol
-
The lyrics were written when the singer was about 20-ish, you'll have to excuse them :lol
If I send a post-black metal band doing a post punkish song, does it count as post-something? ::)

I think it'll just be easier if I take the zero this round. I honestly have no idea what "post"-anything means. If you've ever read my top 50 introductions, I don't listen to this classification of music. Maybe I do, and I don't know it. :dunno: What is "post" mean?!?!
I know for damn sure I don't know any of the band names you listen to LISTED, and I know my musical tastes are very different, nay ... opposite, from LLTWM's.
Edited after Rattlehead quoted me.

Woohoo, I did it!
This theme is pretty difficult for me as I've barely listened to any post-rock/metal/punk/whatever... Is it ok if I send a song by a band that started with post-punk even though the song itself doesn't fit the definition?

The only 2 I recognized were Alcest, and 65daysofstatic - only because you got them each in this roulette already.
I'll keep playing, but I got nothing for you this round.
-
- Believe it or not,you CAN ignore a theme! You can just send anything you want! But,you have to tell me that you're not going for the theme and you will be scored out of 5 instead of 10. But still,it could be useful! Better than nothing!

Yup. Onno didn't obey the theme and he got more than zero.

Sent... sorry I'm late :lol

Gulp. I'm not familiar with post-music. Time to ignore a theme :lol?

Yup. Onno didn't obey the theme and he got more than zero.
Oh yeah... right. Ok, I'll fire off something today.
There better be a Glam Rock round later.

That's probably the only genre I know that I have none of, so no thanks. :lol

Well, unlike you, I don't listen to anything horrific or god-awful. :D ;)

That only leaves Milena. I'm currently writing my thoughts on every single track. And like I said previously, there is a perfect score.

Well, shit... I could just go to last.fm and find a 'post' something band. But to me, a roulette is about sending the music I love that I think the the organizer might too. That's why I would never sign up for a roulette with Dark Castle or LLTWM (nothing wrong with these guys, it's just our musical tastes are polar opposites). I'd rather have a low score than send something that I don't even know.
That's just me though.
BTW, I'm sent. *hopes for a 3 or 4*
-
Well,Milena hasn't been online for the past 2 days. So I'm guessing that she's busy with something. I'll still rate her song when she sends me,but for the rest...
HERE ARE THE GOD DAMN RESULTS!
Just give me couple hours.
No.
?: The Cure - Disintegration
Oh wow someone actually took a risk! :lol And yeah… I'm not a fan of the vocals. BUT the song was kinda nice. Instrumentally it was pretty neat and even though the vocals were a little meh, they fit the song! Not really a discovery but I'll keep the score high for taking a risk.
8/10
Senecadawg2: Agalloch - As Embers Dress The Sky
I've heard of this band so many freaking times. Now I don't care for Summoning, but I found this to be REALLY good. In fact,a discovered band! The vocals didn't bother me believe it or not and the lyrics are really nice! Really sad which is what I wanted. Really liked the calmer acoustic section in the middle of the track. I feel like this track is gonna get you closer to the top!
9.5/10
Dr. DTVT: Mouth Of The Architect - Quietly
I've heard of these guys before. But I never really gave them a proper listen. The intro reminded me of some Isis which is always nice. The vocals, like most Post Metal bands are pretty meh. But hey, that's what post metal is! There are some exceptions though like The Ocean. Ah well enough rambling. The song had a really nice flow with some excellent guitar work. I quite liked this track. In fact, enough for a discovery!
9/10
Scorpion: Intronaut - Valley Of Smoke
I really liked Intronaut's latest album but didn't check out the rest of theirs albums yet. Kinda lucky on your part. Oh and yes,Justin Chancellor is fucking sweet. Now when I first saw that you posted Intronaut I was like "Wait, aren't they Sludge?". Well, with this song I was proven wrong. I really liked the percussion in the middle of the song. But at times,it felt like the song was like um,dragging on too long. This song could have been a little shorter. I really liked the bass work and the drumming yes,but the song kinda bored me. Sorry man.
6/10
Elite: Oceansize - Massive Bereavement
Okay,I've only listened to Frames from these guys and I liked that album so I was looking forward to giving this song a listen. Now my biggest problem with this band is that at times,I feel like the songs/albums are a little too long than they should me. I'm haven't been the biggest proggy guy that I used to be lately. But,this song had a really nice flow. The song was really calm but at times the song had these nice twists and turns. The vocals were really nice and everything too. I guess you gotta thank Zantera for this score.
9.5/10
Speaking of Zantera…
Zantera: Gregor Samsa - Even Numbers
At the time of me writing this, the freaking power went out. So I'm sitting in my room, listening to the song. (Thank god my internet is alright and had loaded the entire video!) It's 2:28 AM. Hot damn this is some good stuff. I currently have headphones on like you recommended too! Now,the song is freaking amazing. Mind blowing in fact. I felt like this was gonna be epic 3 minutes in. And it lived up to my hypes. It's sad, depressing and all I want in my post rock. Has the signature guitar sound and everything. But the song has one extra:vocals. Sometimes, vocals destroy post rock for me (Isis at times) BUT vocals can also make post rock the best thing ever. (Sigur Ros) And this is easily the most beautiful post rock I've ever heard since Sigur Ros. This song is like a dream. I don't want it to end. It's like the outro to Festival from Sigur Ros times 2. God damnit Zantera, what did you do to me!?
Anyways, after the song ended the power came back on. This was one of the greatest journeys that I've ever taken in my life. Thank you!!!
tenouttaten
Nekov: Russian Circles - Mladek
Well, this song is right up my alley. It has a really nice intro. After the second minute mark, the song is finally ready. And so is my body. The thing I really like about Post Rock is that it's very diverse. It can be sad, energetic or downright scary. This song a little of everything with a little lean on the "epic" side. I really like the drumming though. I couldn't stop airdrumming. :lol This song also made me do something interesting,I took out my acoustic guitar and played random chords that fit the song. So technically I jammed. This song is awesome. Thanks Nekov. Discovery! The only thing I disliked was the outro. It really didn't do anything for me.
9/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: Mono - The Battle To Heaven
I only own that one well known album from Mono but then again,I've never EVER given their stuff a good listen yet. In fact,I was gonna see them live this year, but thanks to some exams,I missed the concert and sold my ticket. And after listening to this song,I hate myself. I really do. The song is already sad but the fact that I MISSED the concert made me feel like crap. Discovery? Not really since I already own one of their albums and have knowledge of them. But still, this was a damn good track.
9/10
Onno(Not going with the theme.):Branford Marsalis Quartet - The Return Of The Jitney Man
Damn you really wanted to send me some jazz this round. :lol This was the third song you sent me,I know the previous two songs (and the albums they are from) by heart. This was some groovy stuff. Probably could have gotten a 8/10 if this was a jazz round. But you sent something out of theme. Thus, you get a 4/5.
fourouttafive
Jingle.Boy(said "Fuck the theme"): Spirit Of The West Putting Up With The Joneses
Erm. This was okay.I didn't like it,I didn't hate it. I found it a little out of place when I was listening to all these sad post rock songs. It's like a boner kill. :rollin So you get a "meh" out of 5. Sorry man. But I do feel like one of the upcoming rounds could be your time to shine. Just be patient and don't send me NSync.
2.5/5
Rattlehead: Red Sparowes - Giving Birth To Imagines Saviors
Now this song had a great flow and an awesome ending. It was short but still,I really enjoyed it. It wasn't as satisfying though as some of the previous songs so I was a little underwhelmed. Before this song,I had listened to Zantera's song again and the Mono song that LieLow sent. So yeah, you can blame those guys. :lol
8/10
Ruba: Nine Inch Nails - The Day The World Went Away
I've never listened to NIN before believe it or not. So this is my first impression. The song isn't really post rock but it has elements of it. Fuck it,I'm too lazy to ask for a resend and I think the guitar tone is post rockish enough. The song was okay. Nothing stood out to me to be honest with you. It had a nice atmosphere and all but still,I was a little underwhelmed.

Well looks like Zantera took back the lead and no ties this time! Still, the top 6 is looking VERY close. Almost everyone has a chance to win. Everyone besides that one guy who's reading this and isn't in the roulette. Sorry man.
The new theme will be announced as soon as I rate Milena's song. (Or sooner if she takes too long.)
Edit:God dangit another fucking tie. :lol
-
Phew, I was expecting a lower score! I'm glad the risk paid off.

Really glad you liked Agalloch. Like I said, Ashes Against the Grain is my personal favorite album from them, but you really can't go wrong with any of them.
And yay for being in the top 4 within a point of the top!

Fuuuuuck how could I forget Agalloch :rollin :rollin :rollin
Well anyway, glad you liked the song :)

So, let me get this straight... not only do I get my rating automatically cut in half because I have zero ability to meet the theme, but I also lose points because you're in a listening mode of the 'post' genre theme - and the song (which is already out of place) is out of place? AAAANNND, you made that judgement/assertion within 4 hours of me sending the song?
I'm not bitching (lest a roulette organizer again think I'm bitching), just making sure I understand the facts.
Like I said in my PM, I didn't have any illusions of winning this after my 6' from Round 2 anyway, but I would've hoped you would listen to the song and give it a bit more of a chance - maybe it's a 2.5/5 anyway; maybe it gets worse with age. Who knows?
I can only go up from here, that's for sure!
-
Sorry 'bout this, sent :mora:

:D
Check those guys out, some very interesting stuff
-
Morawintersoul: Amesoeurs - Heurt
Shoot. I just got hit from my sweet spot. Blackgaze. Well, this was some Blackgaze with a touch of Post Punk. To me,Blackgaze is already a mixture of Post Rock and Black Metal so it's good. But this also has elements of Post Punk which was pretty cool. The one thing I didn't like too much was the vocals. It just felt a little too umm... can't believe I'm saying this but it's kinda too soft. Yes there are screamy parts but the vocals just sound out of place. At times it kinda bothered me. The instrumentation is almost as good as Alcest. It was really sweet. The song's length was also really nice cause at times, this stuff can just drag on and on. I'm still not too sure If I loved this song as much as some of the other 9/10 songs I had this round. But for now,I feel like 8.5/10 is a good enough score.
eightpointfiveouttaten
So,that means...Yes. ANOTHER TIE FOR FIRST PLACE. :mehlin
ROUND 4:INTRODUCING...
Now I'm gonna make this round a little interesting. You gotta choose a genre and you will have 15 minutes each to give me the best of that genre. Yes,I know it's a little too short. But come on,there are 13 players in this shit. :rollin
Also,if you're gonna more than one song,it's gotta be a different band. I wanna discover more stuff.
Oh and the person that does Hip Hop AND makes me enjoy that stuff will get 2 points bonus. Yes,It's possible to get a 12/10. But considering that I don't like Hip Hop that's a little too risky. :lol (I liked that song from Outkast though. The one with that cool music video.) So yeah! Introduce me to some good bands folks!
-
So, what happens if I send you two songs? Do you just score the one you like best?
And what genres are off-limits?
-
So, what happens if I send you two songs? Do you just score the one you like best?
And what genres are off-limits?
1.I will give the average point.
2.None. Just don't use any band that's in my banned list.
-
I'm slightly confused? We choose a genre, then a song from that genre? How is it different from an open round? An what is the meaning of the 15 minute limit?
-
I am equally confuzzled.
-
I think his expectation is a genre he's not overly familiar with. In my case, I'm glam rockin it all night long - likely to a low score. :lol
-
I know a genre no-one else will probably introduce you to and the total amount of music I will send in a few minutes is just 40 seconds short of 15 minutes!
-
You have to choose a genre and then just send me 15 minutes (or less) of that genre. Doesn't matter which genre.

Will have to think a bit about this.

ROUND 4 RESULTS
Jingle.Boy: Glam Rock/Power Ballad
First song: Hardline - In The Hands Of Time
I don't mind Journey. I've never been too into them. Now,I was kinda afraid this was gonna be cheesy. But it wasn't. Thank god. The vocals are quite nice and the song has a cool flow. It's not really my cup of tea,but I'll keep the score high for taking a risk. Oh and yes,the solo was really awesome.
8/10
Second Song: Whitesnake - Sailing Ships
I've never been a fan of this band. I liked a couple songs here and there but that was it. And guess what? This was one of the songs that I liked. It doesn't have the cheese that most 80s power ballads have which is great. Sadly,I do think that the first half drags. The second half kicks some major ass. Gee,you made a good choice for a Whitesnake song. :lol
8.5/10
I'll give you an 8.5/10 for this round. :tup
Senecadawg2: Progressive Metal
Song: Seventh Wonder - Unbreakable
Not gonna lie, that was a pretty sweet intro! Anyways, the first thing that catches my mind is how awesome the instruments support the vocalist's voice and it makes it sound much better. But still, every instrument sounds amazing here. After listening to this,I wanted to do a little research on this album. Found Milena's review on it and then I kept looking up some more reviews. Wow,how the heck have I never heard this before?!
9.5/10 DISCOVERY BABY!
Onno: Classical Music
Song:Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture
I've heard this before. One of my father's friends is crazy about classical music and a multi instrumentalist. He makes drone music. He's that weird of a guy. Anyways, this was pretty neat. The cannons at the end scared the living piss out of me at 3:30 AM with headphones. That's okay. I saw Kikia back when it was new. I was like 9 years old. :lol Anyways this nice piece of music had some really epic ass moments. It's almost as if I'm a 7 year old playing with action figures. EPIC. So yeah, this is nice. But I just gotta be in the mood for classical music. That's why I might be a little biased about it. I'll give you a good score though just because you made me shout at 3:30 AM and wake my turtles up.
8/10
Dr.DTVT: Progressive Black Metal
1st song: Dimmu Borgir - Dimmu Borgir
Okay,I don't get it. It's trying to go for this "epic" vibe. But it just doesn't capture me. The vocals don't do anything for me. The guitar solo was pretty decent but nothing else really interested me. Sorry dude.
5/10
2nd Song: Enslaved - Death In The Eyes Of Dawn
Once again, the vocals did nothing for me. BUT the instrumental work was really good! Is there an instrumental version of this album? So yeah,I preferred this over the first song.
7/10
Which means you get a 6/10.
Elite: Classical Music
1st Song: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Requiem Mass in D Minor: Lacrimosa
This was quite nice. That's really all. But it went perfectly with the next song.
2nd Song: Ludwig Von Beethoven - Symphony No.5:Allegro Con Brio
I see what you did there! Lacrimosa worked really nice as an intro to this. This was quite epic without being too forced, something I see a lot in music.
3rd Song: Richard Wagner - Ride Of The Valkyries
For some reason,I felt like shouting "COWABUNGA!" during the entire song. Cause it was really epic. Seriously, you just gave me a suite. :lol Because all three of these songs flow perfectly. I didn't rank the songs individually but I'll give you a high score.
9/10
MoraWintersoul: Power Metal
1st Song: Sonata Arctica - White Pearl Black Oceans
Fine. Fine. I guess I'll have to check out Sonata Arctica. :lol This was really nice. And yeah, the lyrics were quite crushing. This was quite a treat from start to finish. There are some quite proggy moments too. For example, somewhere around the 5 minute mark the piano compliments everything perfectly. So…DISCOVERY
9/10
2nd Song: Kamelot - Abandoned
I preferred the first song. The song at first didn't grab my attention but then the female vocals came in and the song got a little better with the roaring guitars and everything. Still,it didn't do too much for me.
7/10
Which means, an 8/10
Ruba: Symphonic Metal
Song: Nightwish - Beauty Of The Beast
You know, after so much "epic" stuff in this round,I got a little bored. And this sounded a little cheesy. The instrumental work was nice and all but nothing really made me go "Wow!". I know, this is probably one of the fan favorites. But I'm not too big into this stuff. I don't even know why I liked that Sonata Arctica track so much. So I guess either Milena used some magic on me or I should have given this more listens. (Only 4 listens for this one.)
7/10
Zantera: Electronic Rock or something like that
1st Song: Pendulum - The Tempest
Now for some reason,I can never get into Pendulum. Their music is quite nice but I just can't listen to it all the time if you know what I mean. The vocals were okay. I didn't mind them. The instrumentation was quite nice though. I could have never guessed that this would be such a good idea! Combining electronic music with rock. The song also had some proggy moments which was quite nice. I can safely say that this might be my favorite Pendulum song I've heard. It's very energetic and has a cool vibe to it.
9/10
2nd Song: Pure Reason Revolution - The Gloaming
This is some catchy shit. BUT it kinda drags. I got really tired of it around the 4 minute mark and I wasn't even halfway there! Still,I appreciated the groove of the song. This wasn't as rock oriented as Pendulum so I'm guessing that's why I preferred the Pendulum song. This just didn't do too much for me.
6/10
Which means…7.5/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: Avant Garde Metal
1st Song:Diablo Swing Orchestra - Honey Trap Aftermath
This was a very fun song. It had a really cool groove to it and I just loved it. That's basically what I think of most DSO tracks. I should really check out this band properly sometime.
9/10
2nd Song: Unexpect - Summoning Scenes
Some bands can be very quirky and fun like Mr. Bungle and some other bands can try to be quirky and it just comes off as forced to me. It took me so many tries to freaking finish this song. There is some parts that I enjoyed but I just don't get it. I'm sorry if I disappointed you.
5.5/10
So that means… like 7.5/10
Rattlehead: FUCKING HIP HOP
He sent me 3 hip hop songs. Oh god.
1st Song: A Tribe Called Quest - Award Tour
The beat was okay. For some reason,I had a big smile on my face throughout the entire song. I enjoyed it believe it or not. :lol
7/10
2nd Song: Jedi Mind Tricks - I Against I
YO DAWG THIS IS SUM BOOM BAP (Actual genre name.) SHIET RIGHT HERE BRUH. :metal Okay um. I didn't mind it. It kinda faded in the background…
6/10
3rd Song: Luniz - I Got 5 On It
Bleh. I really didn't care for this. It kinda dragged and dragged… Oh and I think I might have heard this sometime on the radio before. Was this some popular single back in the day? So yeah. I got 5 on it too.
5/10
Which means 6+2=8 which means 8/10. Funny cause none of those songs got an 8. :lol
Thanks for taking a risk though. :tup
Scorpion:Piano Driven Rock
1st Song: Tori Amos - Winter
I remember someone sent me some other Tori Amos song. I think I gave it like a 7 out of 10. But let me get this clear. I prefer this over that song. And this song is way better. This reminded me of some epic Neil Young song like "Words" which is a good thing. I'll give this a high score but this isn't going on my discovery list since I'm not too big on this stuff unless it's Fiona Apple.
9/10
2nd Song:The Dresden Dolls - Delilah
The lyrics were nice and all but I kinda got bored. Like I said,I'm not too big on this stuff. So I'm not the person to send this stuff to. (Take notes people.) Sorry for a low score,I'm pretty sure some people love this and I can see why. I just don't think I can listen to this again and again. (Like I did now. I listened to most songs that you guys have sent like 5 times each.)
6/10
Which means you get a 7.5/10
?: Doom Metal
1st Song: KYPCK - After
Wow.. This is some weird stuff. The riff is alright and all but I don't know. I just don't "get" it I guess. It didn't keep my interest too much and that's kinda why I only listened to it 4 times instead of the regular 5 times I listen to most songs.
6/10
2nd Song: October Tide - 12 Days Of Rain
I've never been to big on Rankse's growls. In fact,I really like his cleans. I quite like the direction Katatonia took with some of their newer albums. But I still don't mind albums like Brave Murder Day. This reminded me of Brave Murder Day which was a treat. The riffs are really cool and overall, I really enjoyed the song. It's just Renkse's growls that I'm not a big fan of.
8/10
Which leaves you with a 7/10.

Oh well, KYPCK isn't everyone's cup of tea - even a lot of doom metal fans don't "get" them :lol
Waiting for the next theme... :caffeine:
-
I send you Tori in the round 1 (Leather was the song), and got 7. I thought you would've liked it better than Winter. Ohwell.
I've been doing a bit mediocrily. Got to improve.
-
Give me like 5 more hours. I fell asleep while I was watching one of the cutscenes from Sly Cooper 2. :rollin
Oh damn I haven't played that one in forever. Love that game sooo much. :metal
-
And yeah Unexpect is one of those bands you'll either think is the best thing ever or basically react like you did. :lol
-
I re-sent those. Did you get them?
-
Nope I didn't.
Nekov: Indie Rock
1st Song: The Radio Dept. - Heaven's On Fire
WOAH! Is that Thurston Moore in the intro? Cool! Anyways, this is some indie rock song crossed with some nice shoegaze. There is a little loop in the background which doesn't really bother me in fact,I like it. It adds some nice detail to the song. Later in the song, there are some horns which are pretty neat. This was quite a treat!
8.5/10 (Thanks to Thuston Moore I added an extra 0.5)
2nd Song: Pinback - Fortress
This was alright. It is quite catchy but it's not too interesting musically. The chorus is simple but quite effective. Besides that, there is not much to say really.
6.5/10
3rd Song: Frightened Rabbit - Holy
This is pretty nice. It's like a folkier version of Arcade Fire. I don't like it as much as Arcade Fire but this song was quite nice and has a pretty nice chorus. Not much to say honestly.
7.5/10
So I guess your average score is 7.5/10 which puts you on the 8th place.
ROUND 5 THEME
Now there were many "epic" songs in this round. I want you guys to basically send me an epic song…
UNDER 3 MINUTES. :rollin
Yes,it can be anything. It can be some really long fart or classical music that makes my head explode. In fact, screw it. Classical Music is BANNED for this round. Cause I know there are some really epic classical music under 3 minutes. You will get bonus points if the song is a Progressive Rock/Metal song. (Yeah,I don't think there are any epic prog songs under 3 minutes :lol)
Don't forget! You CAN send something outside the theme but your song will be rated out of 5 instead of the usual 10. Now,get your short skirt japanese anime chicks and a Chuck Norris action figurrrrrrrr. It's time to get epic!
PS:Please no cheesy anime songs. I'm not even that big on anime even though my friends are literally forcing me into some Neon Genesis Evangelion. Ah well.
-
Is 3:00 the maximum length?
-
How in the hell did the scoring for Rattlehead work? Glad you liked my stuff, though I didn't really select them to be a suite; they're all different types of pieces from different times. Also, MERCY FALLS.
-
Sent you a way short way awesome track :)
-
Song sent!
-
Is 3:00 the maximum length?
Yup.
How in the hell did the scoring for Rattlehead work?
He took a brutal risk and got 2 bonus points.
-
Glad you liked it Lolzeez!

:heart :heart :heart
And you and I are tied for the lead!!
Now I'm gonna rack my brain for some epic short songs... :lol
-
Epic AND short? Something comes to mind but I'm not sure you'll like it. Oh well, this might take a bit. :o
-
Glad you liked it. BOOM!

Meh, I figured I'd take a chance with the hip hop; not like there's anything to lose really :lol I'll take the next round a bit more seriously... I'll probably send my song by tomorrow afternoon (US eastern standard) at the latest.

Progressive metal, what an brave and original choice of genres

The only thing less ballsy would've been 70s prog.

Progressive metal, what an brave and original choice of genres
Hey now, this isn't a competition to see who can send the most 'out there' music. I was going to send Seventh Wonder at one point or another anyhow, because it's one of my favorite bands and I thought he would enjoy them. And to be fair, I have sent a reasonably diverse group of songs so far, and plan to continue that trend.
-
Only missing LieLow.
-
Got it! Results in the next 2 days.

I'm pretty sure I didn't send yet.

Sorry guys,I'm littered with schoolwork.
ROUND 5 RESULTS!
Morawintersoul: Cloudkicker - Here,Wait A Minute!
Wait a minute indeed. Who would have guessed that a 2 minute song can be this complex! Well, you do get the prog bonus BUT I wasn't too into it as a song. It sounded like a 2 minute sample of some epic prog song. So yeah, you do get the 2 bonus points, but I didn't like the song as much as some other songs I got in this round. I usually give 2 bonus points but I'm only gonna give 1 bonus point because it just doesn't stand out as one seperate song.
6+1=7/10
?: Dark Tranquillity - The Wonders At Your Feet
Woah. This was awesome. I recently kinda got into the band because Construct had just came out and I just felt like listening to something new. So I picked the clamshell version up and started listening. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't the best melo-death album ever (That title belongs to Carcass' Heartwork) but it was quite nice and unexpectedly catchy. This was quite awesome too. Even though the growls aren't as good,I can totally look past that. I really liked this song and I found it pretty replayable. So um… Where should I go with this band from here? I've heard that Projector is quite good.
8.5/10
Zantera: The Smashing Pumpkins - Cupid De Locke
Now,for some reason I hated this band when I was like 9 years old. :lol And that's why I've never listened to them ever since besides couple singles. The song has a really dreamy atmosphere and that's probably what they were going for. It was pretty nice and got better with more listens. My friend from school really loves TSP and he said that this was actually one of his least favorites on Mellon Collie. So I guess I should check it out! (It has Bullet With Butterfly With Wings, has to be decent. :lol)
8/10
Nekov: Aghora - Garuda
This is a jazz fusion song and it's under 3 minutes. It sounds really cool too! Reminds me of some Guru Guru song. It's quite groovy and everything and then it goes METAL. It gets heavy and stuff. And yes,it's proggy and stuff but I just went "Oh wow really? Was that necessary?" when the song turned heavy. It is prog but I thought it was a little average. So you're only getting 1 point bonus. Sorry…
6+1=7/10
Senecadawg2: Beyond The Bridge - The Spring Of It All
I've listened to this whole album once and that was after my previous roulette. Anyways,it's quite epic but it doesn't have much to offer. This is like sending Through My Words. That's why I'm gonna give you only 1 point as bonus just like I did with Milena. But I'll keep the score higher cause you reminded me that I should give this album another listen after so long.
7+1=8/10
Jingle.boy: Abba - Waterloo
Really? You sent me Abba. *sigh* My mom really digs this band but I can't freaking stand it. It's not good but it's catchy as all hell. Anyways,I remember hearing this song on some The Simpsons episode. This is some major cheese. :lol Now I would normally give you like a 5 but you made a really ballsy move. I just have to give you a higher score. Sorry guys,I just can't get this song out of my head and just too ashamed to admit that it's a decent song. :rollin
5+2=7/10
Onno: Motorhead - Going To Brazil
A fun rocker. That's about it. I've never been able to get into Motorhead for some reason and sadly this doesn't grab me neither. Decent short rocker. That's all basically.
7/10
Ruba: Animal Alpha - I.R.W.Y.T.D
Weird vocals. Is that a girl or a guy? Anyways this was a nice tune. The pre chorus is really annoying though. In fact,I kinda stopped listening there and looked at some other songs when I was just skimming through the songs you guys sent me. But the last 40 seconds were pretty freaking awesome. That's it pretty much.
7.5/10
Rattlehead: Megadeth - Dialectic Chaos
I just can't get into the thrash metal genre. But yeah, this is some good wankery. :lol I also am not the biggest fan of Mustaine's vocals so it was nice that you sent an instrumental. Not much left to say really,I enjoyed this quite a bit!
8.5/10
Scorpion: Praying Mantis - The Horn
And we got another instrumental! This wasn't as into your face as the Megadeth song. But this was a little more melodic. It was okay but for some reason I kept thinking of Power Rangers when I was listening to this song. I really don't know why. It sounds more like a video game song tbh since it loops and just ends. It was enjoyable and all but not something that I'd listen to again and again.
7/10
Dr. DTVT: Reverend Horton Heat - Jimbo Song
Okay what is this? :lol Sounds like some generic pop punk song from like 2003. I also watched a live version and that version was a little better. I enjoyed the guitar solo and everything but this just sounds like a novelty song where they play it live to introduce some guy named Jimbo.
6.5/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: Sufjan Stevens - The Black Hawk War
Those fucking bird sounds are annoying. Seriously the first minute of this song just annoyed me. Then the drums come in and it builds up. This would work for a soundtrack, but not as something I'd listen to. UNLESS it's some transition song on some album like The Fool from Neutral Milk Hotel. I can understand that. But still,I didn't enjoy this too much. I'll still keep the score high since It's probably a transition song.
It is right?
6.5/10
Elite: Amanda Palmer - Oasis
Dude are you shitting me? Is this some sort of joke? Sounds like some crap on the radio but it's like a parody. Still, even if The Room was a joke (Which it prob wasn't.) It still wouldn't be a good movie. *sigh* I'm sorry dude. I just don't get it.

ROUND 6 THEME
Just send something good. Send a song that you think I'll like. Yup,open round in the middle of the freaking roulette. BUT with your submission, send me a theme to use in my roulette. I will write the themes down, put them in a hat and pick one. You can trust me,I'll use the very first theme that I pick. So,send me a good song and a good theme. That's all! :metal
-
Dude are you shitting me? Is this some sort of joke?
No, I think it's a fun song and pretty 'epic' in its own right. It clocks in under 3 minutes, so I thought I'd sent it. What a shame that it cost me pole position.
-
So um… Where should I go with this band from here? I've heard that Projector is quite good.
It is! Projector is a bit of a divisive album among the fans, but you obviously like clean vocals so you probably wouldn't have a problem getting into the album. Fiction and Damage Done may be more representative of DT's typical sound and include a lot of fan-favorites though.
I'll send something tomorrow... This might be the hardest round for me besides the "post" one because this time there's so much to choose from!
-
Good to know you've already heard, and like, Beyod the Bridge. Also good to be in the lead. I've already got a good idea for a theme, at least I think it's good. Will send tonight!
-
:omg:
That song is awesome! And the metal part just makes it better. :yeahright
-
Alright. My chances of winning this are about zero, so I'm going a slightly riskier route on this.
The Cat Empire - Fishies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkDX4pwBdf4)
Also, my theme is, songs using a harp (the others are gonna pull dick moves as well, so why should be the nice guy).

You're right about Carcass

Kinda surprised you knew Rubber Biscuit! Anyway, there is no shame in liking/appreciating ABBA. I remember watching a documentary on them, and artists like Bono were interviewed, and commenting on how unbelievably talented the group was, and so under-rated for the kind of performers they were. He was almost in awe of them really, using the word "extraordinary" to describe them.
Anyway, will send later today. Since I too have zero chance of winning, it's time to expose you to things you wouldn't normally. Still aiming for good music, don't get me wrong, but your taste seems a little too erratic for me to nail down... so I'm not gonna try.

May I step in and say The Jester Race is the best melodeath album? And Slaughter of the Soul and The Gallery are still fantastic. Used to love them a lot, until I stopped listening to melodeath.

I think this is my fifth or sixth and I'm still learning my way around these. Big Hath's is the first roulette where I had to come up with a system and decide what to send in advance, since I only have about 15 bands I can send thanks to his uber-comprehensive library :D Lolzy focuses a lil' more on genres I'm just starting to get into, and I mostly only have the stuff he knows already, but I can send basically anything from my five or six stronger genres/eras.

Senecadawg2: Dir En Grey - Vinushka
One of my friends is really into this band. So I'm somewhat familiar with them but never gave them a real chance. Anyways, the song had a really nice intro. It sounds like some post metal song. And somewhere around the 4 minute mark… Shit… This song explodes. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals although the song is pretty damn good. The song slows down later…only to go heavy again. This is actually quite good. I probably should have given this more than 5 listens but eh,that's the number of listens I give every song. Thanks for the song though!
8.5/10
Zantera: Jane's Addiction - Three Days
I've heard some Jane's Addiction but never been too huge on them. I bought Ritual De Lo Habitual but I haven't given it a good listen yet. Now after this,I have to. This was freaking awesome. It's quite proggy without being wankery or lost. This song was freaking excellent. The vocals were nice, the instrumentation was great and this was just an AWESOME song. Thanks dude!
9.5/10
Jingle.Boy: Frost* - Dear Dead Days
I've heard of this band before but never really listened. This was some very cool prog rock. I really dug on the vocals and the freaking cool intro. The song has a pretty damn catchy chorus and the song is just solid. I should have listened to these guys before…
9/10
Onno: OSI - OSI
I only heard Blood from OSI and quite enjoyed it. I don't know why I never even dug deeper since I quite liked Blood. The song starts out pretty heavy with a really cool riff. Kevin's voice is really fitting. But one thing that I found unnecessary was… the electronic "sounds" that keep occurring during the song. It's still a pretty nice and fun song. If KM is good at one thing,It's writing good and catchy songs.
8/10
Ruba: Ministry - The Land Of Rape And Honey
That's one weird land. Anyways,I've never been too into industrial music to begin with. The song didn't really grab me. Sure it has a nice groove but it got boring after the first minute and the rest just DRAGGED. I guess industrial just isn't my cup of coffee.
4/10
Elite: Karnivool - We Are
I just recently got this album. My biggest problem with it is that it drags too long as an album. But song by song, the album is really solid. This song was one of my favorites on the album so nice pick! :tup The music video is also pretty darn nice. I usually don't care for music videos but yeah, this was a really good one. Anyways this is a pretty good alt/prog rock song. I just can't get too into the album since it just DRAGS…
9/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: The Pineapple Thief - Snowdrops
Trains from PT is like the song of summer. This was the complete opposite. This obviously isn't as good as Trains. But still,It's a really good cousin track. The vocals are very Steven Wilsonesque which I quite liked. The song is a little dreamier and slower than Trains and has a completely different mood. It was quite good but didn't wow me.
8/10
Rattlehead: He Is Legend - China White
It's a Post Hardcore song. It was quite good but I didn't like the vocalist's screams. They were more like Metalcore than Post Hardcore which I'm not the biggest fan of. It's a decent song but just didn't satisfy me too much.
7/10
MoraWintersoul: Ulver - Like Music
SO THIS SONG WAS FROM ULVER. THE MORE YOU FUCKING KNOW. My local record store's owner always keeps playing this one song. I never got into Ulver cause I thought It'd be like…I don't know I thought It would be something like Summoning. If there is more stuff like this,I'm gonna dig in so freaking bad cause this song creates an ambience that no other song I've heard in so long. This is freaking amazing.
9.5/10
No disappointments for you sister :heart
Dr. DTVT: The Dear Hunter - What It Means To Me
That was a really cool video! Anyways,Casey's vocals are quite nice. But the song didn't really stand out too much to me. Sure,it had some really nice vocals and simple but effective instrumentation, but it kinda got worse listen after listen. I don't know why. Whatever, this was pretty decent.
6.5/10
Scorpion: Cat Empire - Fishies
This was some ska/acid jazz. It was okay but I just can't really "listen" this stuff. It just fades in the background. It was okay but after just 2 listens,I was burnt out and just couldn't listen anymore.
5/10
?: Slowdive - Catch The Breeze
Oh man. How the heck have I never listened to this before? Sounds more dream pop than Shoegaze but still,It's pretty similar to My Bloody Valentine. Even though It's not as good as When You Sleep, this is some good Shoegaze. Thanks dude for sending this song. Now I'm leaving to buy this album. :lol
9/10
Nekov: P'Cock - The Actore Fun
This was some really good prog. It sounded like Eloy with ELP. I don't care for Eloy but ELP is one of my favs from the 70s. It was pretty good but I can't find any of their albums here OR on the net.. That kinda sucks, cause I bet these guys have done better stuff than this.

Anyways, after everyone sending their theme,I wrote them down and pulled them out a hat. The winner was... 80s music that doesn't suck. So,for round 6 send me something from the 1980s that doesn't suck. ALSO,if you guess the person who sent this theme right, you'll get 1 bonus point. And no,the person who sent the theme won't get any bonus point. Sorry Mr. personthatsenttheme.
Deadline: This friday.
Now bring it on!

Yeah, they're a quite obscure band. I've listened to two of their albums and that song is my favorite but if you are able to find them somewhere give them a try. Interesting band.
-
Glad you enjoyed Ulver, even though that's not what I sent. It was on my list of potential sends :tup
I also understand the mixed reaction to Dir En Grey. The vocals really are bombastic.
-
So, that Amanda Palmer song is getting me killed here. Wow.
-
Well, you said the person was a mister, so now I know it wasn't... me... crap.
Just about to squeeze in an awesome guitarist :hat
-
Sented! Put me back in the lead by myself!

Was just about to say the same thing. There's one name eliminated!
-
Splent, pun intended
-
I knew you'd like Slowdive!
I'm not that familiar with 80s stuff, so prepare to get another song by a band whose stuff I've sent you already.
E: sent
-
I said it'd be hell or high water! :lol
To be honest, I hated that album and song at first. It's not really accessible. What did I think when I sent it?
80's music that doesn't suck... and you already know Rush... there's nothing left...
...now I'm kidding . I'll find something.
E: Sent!
-
Sented! Put me back in the lead by myself!
Send something else please,I know what Dire Straits is.
Oh and my favorite from them is either the debut or Love Over Gold.

Song sent! Hope you'll enjoy it. :)

Well maybe if you had put them on the banned bands list! >:(
I was pretty shocked to see them not on the list in the first place. And now I'm going to have a really difficult time finding something else from the 80s :-\
Edit: Sent again, hopefully better luck this time!
-
And now I'm going to have a really difficult time finding something else from the 80s :-\
Guess we can scratch another name off the list who DIDN'T submit this theme.
Will be sending later tonight.

I'm gonna PM you the next theme. It's another theme that one of you guys (and lady) have sent me.

I sent you something utterly ridiculous. I'll probably get a low score.

I don't mean to rush you, but...

I sent my song last night... sorry for taking so long :lol

I'm sorry, I'll send tomorrow when I wake up again. I've been away from my computer for too long, since I've barely been home. College student life; can't help it.

I guess I'll post the results before Elite sends me his song. Sometime in the next 60 minutes. :tup From now on,if you're late, your song is gonna be rated out of 5 instead of the usual 10.
Edit: Maybe later. :-\
-
Give me half an hour and you'll have my song. To be fair, you never really gave a deadline for the song to be sent. You'll have it in a bit.

ROUND 7 RESULTS
Scorpion: Savatage - When The Crowds Are Gone
I've bought one Savatage album couple weeks ago but never had time to fully check it out. I think it was called "something something Mountain King". Anyways, after hearing this I really wanna hear more. Jon's vocals are really neat and the piano during the intro is a nice touch. The guitar solo was very epic too. Damn, why haven't I heard this before? This is something from the 80s that does not suck. Good job.
9/10
MoraWintersoul: Gary Moore - The Loner
Some more Moore from Milena I guess. :lol I've never been a huge fan of Gary Moore to be honest with you. He's an awesome guitarist and all but his music is just too cheesy for my taste. This song had an epic feel to it but it still suffers from the "cheese" factor. That doesn't mean that I didn't like it. In fact,It was pretty good. I'm just biased with this dude's work. But to your luck, your guess of the person who submitted the theme was right!
7.5+1=8.5/10
Dr. DTVT: Words - The Fifth Wheel
Dude. You sent me this song before on my last roulette. :lol I still enjoyed it thought but I'm not gonna rate it as high as last time which was an 8/10 because you sent the same thing as before. But it really doesn't matter cause you guessed whose theme this was.
7+1=8/10
Ruba: Diamond Head - Am I Evil
Cool, the song Lars Ulrich fucked up. :lol The intro sounds way doomier here and I prefer it this way. It's a good intro for the song. Sadly, the song kinda bored me and dragged. It could have been excellent if the song was 2 minutes shorter. This is an okay rocker and better than Metallica's cover. I just don't enjoy the 80s signature drum sound. The solo was just okay too. Sorry :/
6/10
Zantera: Pixies - Wave Of Mutilation
This band doesn't do anything for me really. This song was pretty good though I just don't think it's something that will stick with me. I like the upbeat energy and the song was pretty fun but that's about it.
6.5/10
Senecadawg2: The Cure - Lovesong
I dug on the keyboard a little bit and the bass in the background too. But besides that, the song was just okay. Now,can I hear something else besides The Cure? This is the second song from them in this roulette. :lol
6.5+1=7.5/10
?: The Cure - The Hanging Garden
Damn. Guess what? I actually prefer this over Lovesong! The bassline is pretty cool and the vocals worked better than Lovesong. It's a little more energetic and just overall more fun to listen to. But honestly,I just don't think that The Cure is a band that I enjoy a ton. Now please,no more The Cure. Just not my cup of coffee.
7.5/10
Jingle.Boy: Max Webster - Battle Scar
WAIT. Is that who I think that is? IT'S GEDDY LEE. And this was a really cool song. I liked Geddy's inclusion and the song sounded slightly like some Rush tune too. Boy,this was a treat.
8.5/10
Onno: Slayer - Angel Of Death
I'm not the biggest person on thrash metal. I'm not a fan of neither Metallica or Megadeth. And I'm not a fan of this neither. I don't like the vocals and the song just doesn't grab my interest. Even proggier thrash metal bands like Voivod bore me to death. I'm sorry…
3/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: Big Black - Bad Penny
Is it just me or does this sound like it was recorded in a toaster? :lol This was a pretty aggressive noise rock song. I liked the enthusiastic vocals and the fast nature of the song. My one problem is that the song is not the most replayable in this round. I kinda got bored during my 3rd listen. Besides that, this was good.
7.5/10
Rattlehead: Megadeth - My Last Words
Really? More thrash metal? *sigh* My biggest problem with Megadeth is that Dave just can't sing. The riffs are decent and all but maybe the band could have looked for a better singer? Anyways, like I said the riffs are pretty neat. The solo was quite cool too. So yeah. I liked this way more than Slayer.
7/10
Elite: Toxik - Shotgun Logic
Seriously? More thrash? Oh god… Well, the intro riff was quite cool actually. The vocals were okay but at times the higher notes got annoying. And then… the song went calm for some reason and some solo pops out. This was actually a really nice touch. For the first freaking time,I enjoyed something close to "thrash metal". Good job.
8/10
Nekov: The Waterboys - Rags
Okay… That intro was pretty "meh". It kinda smells like 80s. Not usually a good thing. And the rest of the song was pretty meh too. And it dragged. Like you said,It should be way shorter.

I'm actually surprised that nobody sent U2. Good thing because I hate U2. So,the theme belongs to… (come on it's obvious.) JINGLE.BOY! He's the only one old and fogey enough to remember the 80s so bless his heart. :lol Also,Milena is winning thanks to guessing that it was the Jingle.Boy who submitted the theme.
NEXT TIME ON THIS GODDAMN ROULETTE
The next theme is gonna be love songs cause I'm a single pile of junk who might need this. Or maybe one of you sent this theme. Well, both actually. Guess who submitted the theme for 1 bonus point. I've also decided that the 9th round is gonna be rated out of 15. So,those who gave up can maybe get their heads back in the game. Currently I'm thinking of having either 4 or 5 people on the finals. So,better think good about the songs you're gonna send! :D
Also,no more thrash metal and The Cure please. :lol
-
Chad, you sly devil, I knew it was you! Let's see if I can guess this theme too...
-
Fuck, I can't keep dropping points in this.
-
Now you wait just one second!!!
I also guessed that it was jingle.man. Where's my extra point?
-
Considering the inconsistent scoring in this round I did pretty well. I swear I won't send more Cure, even though the new theme just screams for that one song :lol
E: sent - I didn't have a lot of songs to choose from!

OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY! ADDED NOW. :rollin

You should have told me, I would have sent another song.
I have the perfect song for this round, but too bad they are already on the banned list, because you can't find a better love song that "Love?" by SYL.
-
Well, fuck. At least I tried.
-
You should have told me, I would have sent another song.

Actually,I've never heard SYL before. I gotta fix that banned list. :P
-
Sent. Hey doc, hope you get some points with Love. That's an epic song.
-
Sorry you weren't crazy about the Cure, I just now realized now that they had already been sent earlier in the Roulette. Which raises an important question, relevant for this next round. If a band is not on your banned artists list, or your 'discovered artists' list, BUT has been sent earlier in the roulette, are they off limits? If an artist was sent earlier, but didn't quite tickle your fancy to the point of getting them on the list of discovered artists, can I still try to get them on there?
-

I did that with Sonata Arctica and it worked :)

Missing out on points again, since I forgot to mention whose theme it was. Ah well, that makes up for being late I suppose. Shall I send another song about rape and abortion?
-

Then don't put "Devin Townsend Related", because Strapping Young Lad is basically Devin Townsend.
-
^that, I've actually thought about sending SYL earlier this roulette but figured you'd already know it because DT related was in your banned list.
-
Sent!

When he's done using our themes, I lol picks one and you get to guess who's it was. That would be fair.
As for this rounds theme, I'm guessing the biggest wuss bag here.

Love songs? Oh man... The Love Song by Marilyn Manson probably doesn't count :lol.
I'll think about this.

TAKE THIS!
ROUND 8 RESULTS!
Onno: Diablo Swing Orchestra - Vodka
I enjoy the wackiness of Diablo Swing Orchestra but I just can't get into them as a band. It seems a little too wacky for me and this is coming from a person who likes Mr. Bungle. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals but the instrumentation was quite good. Sadly, the song didn't do too much for me.
5/10
Dr. DTVT: Strapping Young Lad - Love?
Damn,Devin's vocals are really badass on this. I also liked the riff quite a lot. The chorus was also really awesome and it stuck with me for the next couple of days. Also, the lyrics are hilarious. :lol Now,I need more SYL.
9/10
Senecadawg2: Gotye - Hearts A Mess
This was ok. It didn't really stick but I enjoyed what I heard. I also liked the art direction he took with the video. But the song itself didn't grab my interest for too long. I did however enjoy the trip hop elements in his music but that's about it.
6/10
BUT WAIT! YOU GUESSED THE PERSON WHO PICKED THE THEME CORRECTLY! HAVE A BONUS POINT!
7/10
Morawintersoul: The Gathering - The May Song
This was a really nice song. But honestly,Anneke stole the show. Her voice is just fucking perfect. But,I also quite liked the song itself. The instrumentation was really nice and the keyboard was a quite cool touch. Sounds very 70s prog. If the rest of the band's discography is like this,I'm sold! Sadly,Onno didn't pick the theme. So no 10/10 for you. Sorry...
9/10
Ruba: Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
Oh man I've heard this before. The intro at least. Speaking of the intro,it's freaking cool. But sadly, the rest of the song didn't catch me as much but there was a calm section somewhere around the 4 minute mark which was really cool. It's just that the "epic" sounds a little too…*flameshield* forced and generic. I liked the orchestral elements a lot but the rest of the song was pretty generic and dragged… Also, your guess for the person who picked the theme was wrong. Sorry…
5.5/10
Rattlehead: Buffalo Springfield - Expecting To Fly
Yeah, this was Neil Young's very short lived first band. I think they were around for like 2 years. So yeah, not a lot. Their sound is kinda like a bluesy folk rock band from the 60s. I enjoy their music but just never became a fan. I enjoyed this song but there are way better Buffalo Springfield songs in my opinion at least. This was still a good song. And no,it wasn't Nekov.
7/10
Zantera: Kimbra - Cameo Lover
This is pretty catch but not in the good way. :lol It was stuck in my head for the next 5 days. It's not bad or anything,in fact it's decent but it really lost me when It stuck in my head. I hope you understand what I mean. :rollin Anyways, this was okay. I listened to it way more than I should have, but that's kinda proof that the song grabbed me… Ah fuck it. Gonna keep the score high thanks to the catchiness.
8/10
Elite: Beardfish - Tightrope
This sounds a lot like Caravan. And I love that. The instrumentation is awesome and the vocals are really nice. Wow,this was really awesome!
9/10
Jingle.Boy: Meat Loaf - For Crying Out Loud
This didn't do anything for me. The orchestra-ish instrumentation is nice and all but the song just sounded very "meh" to me. It didn't leave any impression on me. Sure, the lyrics are nice and the vocal delivery is pretty neat but the song just dragged on and on. 9 minutes of this is just a little too much…
4/10
LieLowTheWantedMan: The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Here's a band that I can never "get". Much like Joy Division and The Cure. The vocals are pretty average and the song just isn't anything special. It's better than most of The Smiths songs I've heard but still, nothing special.
5/10
Scorpion: Buckethead - Watching The Boats With My Dad
This was really beautiful. I can never get into Buckethead thanks to him having like 4523453453453848382838484 albums. (May not be the actual number.) But I've always liked his work here and there, this is no exception. The song had a really nice and relaxing vibe which grabbed me from the first second. The rest of the song didn't have too much variety but didn't really need it anyways. It is what it is and does what is does. It's beauty.
8/10
Nekov: Florence and the Machine - Heartlines
Bleh. I've never been a fan of this band. I bought Ceremonials on Day 1 cause why not? Came home, and I only dug the first 4 tracks. The rest always bored me. This is the 9th track on the album. I've heard this many times before but I've probably listened to it like 2 times. The vocals are okay and the lyrics are nice but it's just that the song is…well, boring to me. Sorry but I just can never get into this band. BUT your guess was correct…
3+1=4/10
?:Amorphis - House Of Sleep
Wow… I've only heard Thousand Lakes so far but this is much different… The riff is really cool and the song is some of the catchiest metal I've heard since Labrie's solo work. The short keyboard solo is also wicked cool. That being said, the melodeath Amorphis is what I prefer. Bu still, this was pretty nice. AND YES. IT WAS HIM/HER.
8+1=9/10
Now,who the heck picked this theme? To be honest with you,I'm surprised not many got it right… THE LADY GOD DANGIT! THE LADY! I MEAN WTF WHY WOULD A GUY GO FOR SOMETHING ROMANTIC?!?!?!?!? :rollin

NEXT TIME ON LOLZEEZ'S ROULETTE! (v2)
Well ladies and gents,YOU are gonna pick the themes. On my previous roulette, each participant chose a theme for the one who's above them on the standings. This time,I decided to use this site with a random picking generator thingy. BUT due to the number of contestants being 13,there has to be one contestant with no theme! I'm gonna go with Onno who's in last place to be fair. So Onno can send ANYTHING he wants! So,these are the results.
MoraWintersoul choosing for Zantera

Onno's theme - Open Round!
Also, here are all the themes that were sent in by you guys:
Zantera - Song with creepy children vocals
Ruba - A Cover Song
? - Great Guitar Melodies
Onno - classical/jazz/blues/electronic
Elite - Send any song by a band that has been used in this roulette before, but didn't qualify as a 'discovery'.
LieLowTheWantedMan - Weird songs
Senecadawg2 - Songs In A Language That's not English (no instrumentals)
Rattlehead - Cello
Nekov - Female Vocals
Dr. DTVT - Cover songs
Scorpion - harpsichord :lol
MoraWintersoul - Love Songs
Jingle.Boy - 80s Music That Doesn't Suck
I could still use these for the finals so don't think that Scorpion's theme will never be used. :rollin
-
I was prepared to get slaughtered even though Kimbra is one of my favorite artists, because it's not exactly music you relate to DTF. Glad I got an 8 though!
So just so I understand.. I'm picking for Dr.DTVT, does that mean I can pick any of the themes posted by any of the members, or does that mean he gets the theme I went with earlier that is already posted? :P

You CAN use the theme you went with earlier or you can just make up a new one!
-
Cool that I picked correctly again. Also cool that you didn't like Gotye as much as I do :P
So, Scorpion, do I have to send a song with harpsichord?
And you said the top 5 will go on to the finals? Once we get to the finals will the scores be removed and go on to eliminating one contestant per round?
-
I DON'T REMEMBER I SAID LOVE SONGS IT CAME TO ME LIKE THIS THROWAWAY THING WHEN I WAS SENDING ULVER I WAS LIKE WHAT IS THIS SONG ABOUT I'M GOING TO SEND THAT AS A THEME and then I forgot completely
I'm sorry for all this caps but I honestly can't believe I am such an idiot :lol
-
@Seneca: Your theme shall no be harpsichord, your theme shall be: songs with no guitar, neither electric nor acoustic (bass guitar is fine).
-
@Seneca: Your theme shall no be harpsichord, your theme shall be: songs with no guitar, neither electric nor acoustic (bass guitar is fine).
Thank you! :heart :heart
I only have a handful of harpischord songs in my library, and I don't think they would tickle Lolzeez fancy :lol
-
I have like 2. :rollin
-
I've sent ? his theme. I might've been a bit harsh, but he's in second place for a reason.
-
I've sent ? his theme. I might've been a bit harsh, but he's in second place for a reason.
You can say it here. In fact,SAY IT.
-
Can we assume if we don't get a theme within 2 days of the original post it defaults to an open round?
-
The theme I sent ? was anything that incorporates violin, outside the genre of classical.
-
The theme is a bit hard for me (too bad I'm not a My Dying Bride fan :lol), but I'll come up with something.
Ruba, you're not doing too well and I don't want to be a dick, so your theme is the one I had suggested to Lolz - great guitar melodies.
-
Ruba, you're not doing too well and I don't want to be a dick, so your theme is the one I had suggested to Lolz - great guitar melodies.
Thanks. Although nearly everything I've sent has been a miss :lol.
-
Zanty, your theme is song with at least two vocalists, I hope that's not too hard :)
-
I'm going to keep what I originally submitted. Send something weird, Scorp. :)
-
Okay Mora.
Dr.DTVT @ I'm gonna stick with what I submitted earlier, and that's "a song containing creepy children vocals". Creepy is a subjective definition though, so as long as the song has a part with children singing (and you find it creepy somehow) that should work! I'm not sure if this is an easy or hard theme, I have several songs myself for this, so I hope I'm not giving you a really hard challenge. :lol
-
Diego, as your chances for winning are pretty much zero, I won't be a dick either. I'll reuse one of my roulette themes: send a song without any percussion.
-
In before Chad fucks me up with a terrible theme :lol
As for Rattlehead: you have to send Lolzeez a song that will make his head rattle. Interpret this in any way you want, but you must also explain to him why it should make his head rattle. On top of that, it can NOT be a Megadeth song.
-
Diego, as your chances for winning are pretty much zero, I won't be a dick either. I'll reuse one of my roulette themes: send a song without any percussion.
yeah no, that's super easy :yeahright
Mora, I could totally be a dick here since you are in the first place, but I'm feeling like a good guy today and I'm listening to some Anathema which makes me happy, so I'll stick to the theme I sent Lolzeez, send something with female vocals, no male vocals allowed.
-

Thanks, dick. :lol Children singing would have been hard enough, then throwing in the creepy part is just like saying "double fuck you with a cherry on top". I think I can hear a song in my head, but I'm can't place what it is or might be. If I figure out what it is, watch it be something one the banned list anyway. I was nice to Chad since he's in the same position as me (probably can't win), and told him to pick his own theme that way he has a better chance of sending something lol might like.

Too bad you didn't like DSO. Glad you liked SYL, Devin is amazing of course. Gonna think of something cool to send but I'm really busy.

A gentleman and a scholar you are! My theme is "Dream Theater" ... Something from any current or past DT member side project.
-
Well,if your theme is DT, don't go with anything that's on my banned list or I've previously heard. :rollin

What?!?!?! It's not like I have a chance of winning. I got plenty of obscure stuff the guys have played on or contributed to.
Btw, check your PM.

Given how he doesn't like thrash metal, it's going to be hard to get anything higher than a 7 for me with this theme... not that I had a chance to win this anyway :lol I do appreciate the theme though as for once I will have a very easy time picking something good for him
My theme for LieLow: Send Lolzeez a song with male and female vocals

I didn't say it has to be thrash metal ;p you can pretty much interpret it in any way you want.
-
Also guys,It'd be pretty convenient if you could also tell me your theme on your PM.
-
Elite .... Without giving something too easy, or too hard, I present the following theme - "Wind". it can be a song about wind/air, one with 'wind' in the title, something by "Air Supply", a song with a wind instrument, or the sound of you getting blown. Doesn't matter really.
Good luck
-
I'll see if I can send something tonight. Been a bit busy with schoolwork and I need to look at what I can send and so on, find a good song.

Oh I know... it's just the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of finding a song to fit that theme :lol and the best way I can think of to get someone's head to rattle :rollin
-
You may have tried to fuck me over Zantera, but I hit your theme out of the park.
I sent a Kidz Bop cover of Oops I Did It Again. Kids singing a sexy song, that's fucking creepy.
*like a boss*

I don't even know if I should give you a 15/15 for having balls,or just say "no". :lol
-
He wanted something creepy sung by kids. I provided. I can't be blamed for the limitation placed on me.
-
Well, what I had in mind was more something like Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, even though Lolzeez has PF on his list, my idea was something more along those vibes. :lol
Also, looking into what to send now, so you could have a song in 10-15 mins or so.
-
To be fair, there isn't a lot of good music with creepy kid voices... I can only think of a couple, and Lolzeez already has them on his list.
-
I have maybe 5-10 songs myself from different artists, so I think it's just a matter of luck. :P

ROUND 9 RESULTS
Senecadawg2: No Guitar - M83 feat Susanne Sundfor- Oblivion
Okay, her voice is fucking gorgeous. The song itself reminds me of a less ambient and a more rocking Boards Of Canada. (Please tell me that's not a dumb sentence :lol) This was really surprising to hear since I've actually watched the movie but don't remember hearing this song. Ah well, now that I have heard it,I gotta say, this rules.
13.5/15
?: Violin - Alternative 4 - False Light
O hai Duncan. This was neat. The violin was quite nicely used and the song had a really nice atmosphere. But like you said it was a little repetitive which kinda bored me but the song was quite enjoyable that I just couldn't keep the score too low.
12.5/15
Ruba: Great Guitar Melodies - Bruce Dickinson - Darkside Of Aquarius
And Bruce Dickinson is back! And all I've gotta say is,this kicks some serious ass. The vocals are absolute kick ass and the guitar solo was bloody awesome. This was a really good rocking track.
13.5/15
Zantera: Song with two vocalists - Ever Forthright - Screen Scenarios
I didn't like the vocals. Honestly, they did nothing for me. The jazzy sections were excellent though. The technical guitar work was really nice as well. Honestly, would have been almost perfect if the vocals weren't as "core".
12/15
Scorpion: Weird - Kayo Dot - Marathon
Now I have heard this album before once but It just never clicked. I kinda wanna go back to it because this sounded bloody great. It's like a jazzy post metal song. Toby's inclusion is always a plus though. The song if you skim through it,isn't really the most moving song but those 10 minutes flew by REALLY quick. So quick that I was kinda creeped out. This was awesome.
13.5/15
Dr.DTVT: Creepy Children Vocals - Kidz Bop - Oops! I did it again!
…
Really?
…
This is really creepy but I just don't think that… Um…
0/15 :rollin :rollin :rollin
Nekov: No Percussion - Clive Nolan & Oliver Wakeman - The Burgundy Rose
This is interesting. I remember Oliver Wakeman from some Steve Howe project. But that's about it. His voice is too average though imho. The instrumentation was quite nice and so was that little keyboard solo but just didn't stick with me after like 7 listens. Sorry if I disappointed you.
9/15
Rattlehead: Rattle My Head - Death - 1000 Eyes
This was really nice. I've only heard of one Death album and it wasn't this one. Now,I wanna revisit the band so bad. This is just a delicious chocolate cake of riffs. Especially the riff at 1:40 is fucking outstanding. I need some more right now.
14/15
MoraWintersoul: Female Vocals - Tori Amos - Precious Things
Okay now. This is MUCH better than the song Ruba sent. The song's atmosphere is so dang epic and the singing is just excellent. Dangit Milena…
13.5/15
Jingle.Boy: Dream Theater - Roswell Six - I Am The Point
This sounds an awful lot like Asia and I hate Asia. The synths are a little cheesy but JLB is still there to make me happy. The song is like a mix between Asia and Ayreon. This was okay. It didn't really stand out besides JLB but it was pleasant to hear. Better than the junk Asia put out.
9/15
LieLow: Male AND Female Vocals - Kayo Dot - And He Built Him A Boat
Now I haven't gotten Hubardo yet. But from what I've heard from other people,it kicks ass. And now I'm about to make a statement that might piss some of you off. This is better than anything on Choirs Of The Eye. Toby's vocals are amazing and the song has the most beautiful flow. I actually wasn't bored when I was listening to it,unlike anything from Coyote. Now,if you'll excuse me,I'm gonna buy this.
14/15
Elite: Wind - Big Big Train - Judas Unrepentant
BBT is probably gonna be huge in couple years. I'd say that they'll become the next Spock's Beard, being a cult classic. The English Electric albums are really nice even though I don't like it as much as…Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless Sleep. This is still one awesome song. Probably my favorite off the first album which I prefer over the second.
14/15
Onno: Open - Levin Minnemann Rudess - Scrod
Haven't had a chance to hear this album yet sadly. This is a really cool song though. There is a LTE like groove which is really nice and the video is just quirky and makes me laugh at times. But sadly,I do think that a real guitarist would be great for this band but still, this is a decent effort.

ELITE IT IS!
Fuck it. Zantera too.
So,looks like there will be 5 finalists: MoraWintersoul,?,Senecadawg2,Elite and Zantera. I'd like to say thank you to all 13 of you for participating. But now, these 5 warriors will take on the finals. I'm gonna eliminate 1 participant per each round. I'm gonna be fast though in order to not cause any slow down on the waiting list. But come on,I've been fairly fast this entire roulette,I should be able to have 4 more rounds!
So,the first round of the finale is gonna be an open round. Just send me anything you want. Just no more Kids Bop or any band that was previously used in the elimination rounds. Now,let's go!
-
Hah, I thought you would like Leather by Tori Amos, because it was jazzy. Nice to see you liked Winter and Precious Things better. She's great.
My goal was to get Bruce Dickinson among the discovered bands, but I didn't succeed in that. Anyhoo, good points.
I did quite bad, but thanks for running this and good luck to the finalists!
-
Glad I made it to the finals, even though it was just by a hair. I need to think about what to send next, wanna send something really good.
-
Aw I'm out. :sadpanda: Oh well, glad you liked! :)

The reason it's not on the discovered bands is because it's not a "discovery". I have heard his solo material before. Same goes with Kayo Dot.

Ahh, alright.

Somehow my existence was totally removed from this roulette! :lol
Well, at least I beat Dr. DTVT this round. :rollin

Fuck all a yall who sent Kayo Dot. That was what I wanted in the next round, specifically 'And He Built Him a Boat'. So yeah...
Still, I'm glad to be in the finals, cool stuff. Also glad you dug Susanne Sudnfor.
Now I just need to outlive these 4 bozos, it's gonna be tough :caffeine:
I'll send tonight.

Considering the crippling limitation I was given, beating me this round was the equivalent of having a foot race against a quadruple amputee, and I am the amputee. I basically gave you an open round and you laid an egg with it, that is even sadder.
-
As Orville said to Wilbur... "You're Wright!"

Now I only need Milena and Elite's songs. No need to hurry though,I'm already flooded with awesome stuff.

FINALS:ROUND 1 RESULTS!
Now during these rounds,I will not be rating songs out of 10. Instead,I will be ranking them. I just think it makes the results more dramatic and stuff. Now,ladies first!
MoraWintersoul: Cloudkicker - From The Balcony
The song had a really cool intro with some nice guitar riffing and bass to go along with it. And then the song calms down a bit for some post rockish atmosphere. This was really nice and had a really awesome flow to go along with it. I'd love to hear more!
Zantera: Oathbreaker - The Abyss Looks Into Me
This was like a mixture of Black Metal,Post Rock and Hardcore. At first,I wasn't so sure about the female vocals but the instrumental work grabbed me instantly. Sounds like Deafheaven crossed with hardcore. The calmer sections were quite nice albeit a little too long. But then, the heavy comes back. This time he's really hungry. And then the song has the post rockish outro which is easily the best part of the song. This is quite good but the calm section kinda dragged and I'm still not huge on the female vocals. But the outro was really badass and a good way to end the song.
Elite: Remage Inc. - Feel The Waves
This was quite interesting. It's like something Devin Townsend would make. The vocals were quite nice but the riff was probably my favortite thing about the song. But I was a little underwhelmed with the song. I don't know,it felt like something was missing and I just wasn't so sure about it.
Senecadawg2: Dan Swanö - Moontower
Wow. I could have never guessed that a song with harsh vocals could be THIS catchy! The synth reminds me of Tales era Amorphis which is a really good thing mind you,and I could also hear the 70s prog influences. Swanö's vocals sound excellent and the chorus is just fun. There is a little guitar solo there too which for some reminds me of the keyboard solo in Subdivisions… It's just impressive how good he can play every single instrument,as the instrumentation is great.Holy fuck I gotta go outside and buy this shit.
?: Kingston Wall - With My Mind
This is some 90s Finnish Prog but don't let the prog fool you, this was quite catchy. The Heavy Psychedelic elements are really what made this song for me. The guitar solo is really nice too and the vocals were quite enjoyable. My favorite thing was the guitar tone. It's like a cross between 70s Heavy Psychedelic and jazz fusion. This was quite a neat surprise!

So,let's get right to the results. I have discovered 3 artists this round. Cloudkicker,Dan Swanö and Kingston Wall. Now,the other songs are Zantera and Elite's songs. After re-listening to them, one of the songs actually grew on me more and the other one kinda started to bore me. It was the Oathbreaker song which started to grow on me and I wanted to check out the album. Sadly,Feel The Waves lost its fun in less then 5 listens. So that's why I'm very sorry to say,the loser of this round and the leaving participant is Elite. :-[ I'm sorry dude,I just had to choose one weaker song and your song just got less good after each listen.
BUT,let's pick a winner for this round cause I kinda wanna do that. The winner of this round is easily Senecadawg2. That Dan Swanö song sucked me in during the first 10 freaking seconds. Bravo.
FINALS:ROUND 2! Send me two songs! :lol It's simple as that! Just send me 2 songs. Then I'm gonna rate each song out of 5 and the person with the least amount of points is gonna be out. Only 4 left! Now,impress me.
-
Cool I'm still here. Do you want two songs from the same artist or two different artists? :)

RIP Richard, sorry to see you gone. Especially since it was you that introduced me to Dan Swano :lol
I'm thrilled that Lolzeez enjoyed the song. That whole album is incredibly catchy!
I'll serve you up 2 more tracks by the end of the day!

FINALE ROUND 2 RESULTS!!!
-Senecadawg2-
First Song: Enslaved - Roots Of The Mountain
This band was sent previously by Dr. DTVT…I think. I wasn't too into it but I didn't hate it either. This song was a little less black metal and more prog metal-ish. The chorus reminded me of Haken… I've got no idea why. The instrumentation is also really great. I really dug the calmer sections but I just gotta say, this band isn't really my cup of tea. Maybe I should try again in couple months but for now,I just can't get into them.
7.5/10
Second Song: Dredg - Lightswitch
I'm not too big on the prog rock+alternative rock idea because for the most part,I just can't hear the prog. The same was the issue here. The song was quite nice but it just sounded like some alternative rock. It wasn't amazing or anything, but I enjoyed it.
7/10
So your score is 14.5/20.
-MoraWintersoul-
First Song: Headspace - Die With A Bullet
The song starts out quite good and sometime at the 2 minute mark,it stops and then comes back with an awesome solo section. I instantly went "Oh boy, discovery." Also lemme address 2 things.
1.Damian Wilson's voice is fucking sweet.
2.That guitar sound is amazing.
9/10
Second Song: Fates Warning - Still Remains
Dat intro though. Seriously, the intro with that keyboard/piano intro might very well be the best moment in any song I've had this round. The rest of the song is also some awesome stuff. I'm not really a huge fan of the vocals but the instrumental work is fucking perfect. Now,I should check out this album.
9.3/10
In total,18.3/20. Now,let's look at the 4 remaining songs.
-?-
First Song: Wisdom Of Crowds - Pleasure
Holy crap 2013 has been a busy year for music. I've heard almost 100 albums so far but there is a bunch of awesome stuff that I missed and this is one of them. This band features Jonas Renkse from Katatonia so it grabbed my attention immediately. This is like a mixture of some progressive rock and also with some trip hop and electronic elements. This sounds really nice actually. Jonas' voice fits and the song as a whole is quite good. I should check out more sometime.
8/10
Second Song: Barren Earth - As It Is Written
This is like a prog rock melodeath song. It fucking rules. I really liked the bagpipes on the intro and the keyboard throughout the song really adds a punch and also makes it proggier. The vocals are really nice, both clean and harsh. The calm piano section is absolutely beautiful and also opens up a really rad instrumental section. This is just awesome. I don't have more to say honestly,I just gotta find this album somewhere!
9/10
So you have a total of 17/20.
-Zantera-
First Song: Polkadot Cadaver - Last Call In Jonestown
Like you said, the middle section is really awesome but the rest unfortunately doesn't grab me. The vocals are pretty good and the riff is really cool but I just can't get into the song as a whole. But that middle section really kicked ass.
7/10
So,in order for Senecadawg2 to stay in the game, this next song must get a score less than 7.5/10. Let's take a look shall we?
Second Song: Mew - Am I Wry? No
First time I heard this,I hated the vocals. Second time,I didn't mind them. Now it's the fifth time and I fucking love this song. It's an awesome opener. Very energetic, fun and just a good song! Wow! I should check these guys out more often...
9/10
In total that's a 16/20
Well, that means we're sadly saying goodbye to Senecadawg2. You introduced me to some bloody excellent bands and your taste is really awesome. It hurts to eliminate you… Anyways, for the next round since it's the third round, send me 3 songs! :lol
BUT THAT IS NOT ALL MY DEAR FRIENDS. You have to send:
1.A proggy song.
2.A short song less than 3 minutes.
3.A song of your choice in order to introduce me to a band.
Also, the winner of the round is clearly Milena. Good job! :tup Now I'm gonna look up Headspace. And in the meantime,I'm waiting for your songs! :metal

So did I understand it right that you want 3 songs for this round, one for each description in your post? I need to see what I can send. :)

Correct!
-
I'm happy to be in the top 3, but I'm running out of proggy stuff and it's hard to find a short song you could potentially like. I have to figure something out and try my best!
-
:'( :'(
Ah well... It was a lot of fun playing. Thanks for letting me participate!

Sent the songs! Hope you will enjoy them :)

Results tomorrow promise!!! Sorry for being a little late on both this and my top 50 albums list. :blush

:corn
-
I seriously can't decide who to eliminate... This is just painful.
-
If you can't decide based on their submissions, think about which two people you most want to hear more music from.
Grow some stones. Make a decision.
-
Just let someone who has never won a roulette before gain the victory :xbones

Just bring me back! :-*

Milena?

...or me  (no offense to you Zant, you're awesome!)

Roots Of the Mountain is a 10/10 song, don't worry about this setback bby.

Throw dice! Or end it now or whatever.
-
Results in 30 minutes. I'm gonna think of who I wanna hear more from.

Nice to know I have you're approval, and it really is! :D
-
YEAH I'M STILL STUCK HERE. :rollin
Okay, listen up. Here are the results for this round. I just can't decide between two people. Give me couple more hours to decide. In the meantime, here are the results.
-MoraWintersoul-
Short: Sun Devoured Earth - Fountain Square
Weeeee… I'm floating in the sky… This is the song I listened to the most out of the 9. Just because of how beautiful and interesting it is. This was really nice to listen to at 5AM on my bed.
Prog: Dissona - Eccentress
This was a little too quirky for my tastes. It was quite nice but I just didn't feel like repeating this. (Also,is that Ziltoid/Mike Patton on vocals?)
Whatever: While Heaven Wept - Vessel
I'm not sure if I have heard this before but this sounded really familiar. But honesly,I don't give a shit. This IS the best song you've sent my in this roulette. I wasn't too big on your prog song but this made up for it. This prob would have gotten a 10.
-?-
Short: In Flames - Graveland
I couldn't get into IF. Not the new crap or the classics. Same with this song. It was alright but when it was over,I noticed that I wasn't really satisfied and felt pretty "meh"
Prog: Witherscape - Astrid Falls
I told you that I had bought the album 2 minutes before you had posted me this song. Nice timing. Anyways, the album is really awesome and this was a highlight. This band/album is fucking awesome and I can't wait till their next album.
Whatever: This Empty Flow - Distress
This reminded me of The Cure but a little better. The accent didn't bother me at all but I just don't like the sound. I don't know what you can call it, "The Cure sound" or "Post Punkish". Sure,it had some shoegaze in there but it didn't really stick out for some reason.
-Zantera-
Short: Loma Prieta - Fly By Night
This is better than I expected. The second half of the song was pure awesome and the first half was also really energetic, fun and enjoyable. I liked it.
Prog: Orbs - Sayer Of The Law
Dan Briggs sounds great but I couldn't stand the vocalist. The music is awesome but I just could not get past him. Shame because the chorus is really amazing. Oh and yes,at times, the vocals are slightly The Mars Voltaish like during the chorus. Man,is there an instrumental version of this? That would be a freaking discovery.
Whatever: Lush - Deluxe
Now this is like Dream Pop/Shoegaze. This was really fun to listen to even though it's a little too fast as a shoegaze song. But,if you ignore that, this is an awesome and catchy song. I enjoyed it.
SO WHAT IS MY DECISION?
Milena has always been solid throughout the roulette. I don't think she has gotten less than 7 points and I just wanna hear more from her. While Heaven Kept's song kinda proves this. So,I'm gonna keep her.
Now,Ville (tired of calling him ?) or Zantera… Zantera is the person who sent me Alcest. Ecailles De Lune is on my top 30 albums now. But he had some songs that I thought were "meh". Ville has been quite solid as well. I just felt like he sent the weakest songs this round. (Though I love Witherscape.) But I want to hear more from him. Uhhhh I wanna hear more from Zantera too… Gosh damnit. I'll post my decision couple hours later.
-
Distress is the least Cure-ish song on the TEF album, so I still think it was the best choice :lol Let's see if I can carry on despite my weak performance :blush
-
Now,I have come to a decision. I thought more about discovering than the competition. And I just feel like the final round would be a little better if Ville was in instead of Zantera. (DUN DUN DUN.) Now,for the final round I'm gonna ask for an album in its entirety. Zantera could probably send something amazing like Alcest but he could also send something that can make me go "Meh." because his taste is very varied. Now,I have decided who to eliminate.
Nobody.
You see,I still think Zantera can send something amazing. Ville and Milena too. But,there will be a difference between Zantera and the other two. Ville and Milena, you are gonna send me an entire album. Zantera, you will only send one song. If I think that the song is amazing,I'll listen to the album. Deal? Now,I got some album listening to do. All these discovered bands need to be listened.
-
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
We the people demand flesh, blood, ENTERTAINMENT.
-
I have to send one song then? It feels lame fucking the last round up. I had another progressive song in mind, and with the results in mind I think that one would have scored better. :(
-
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
We the people demand flesh, blood, ENTERTAINMENT.
Okay.
*punches in the eye*
Get it? Like David Bowie...
-
Geez... if you can't even narrow it down to two, you're gonna have a stroke trying to pick an absolute winner.
My money's on the babe.
-
Geez... if you can't even narrow it down to two, you're gonna have a stroke trying to pick an absolute winner.
Nope. With an album,it will be way easier to rank.
-
So the album has to be by a band whose songs you haven't received yet?
-
So the album has to be by a band whose songs you haven't received yet?
Yes please.
Also,PLEASE NO POST PUNK. :|
-
A full album? This is the easiest decision ever :lol sending!
-
Only missing Zantera.
A full album? This is the easiest decision ever :lol sending!
Cool,an album I've been wanting to check out for a while.
-
I'm gonna try to send something within the next 1 - 1 ½ hour or so.
-
Sorry for the delay, but song sent. :)
-
I haven't had too much time indoors the past couple days. I'll try to get the results up until Tuesday. But,here's what I thought of Zantera's song:
Zantera's Song: Unwound - Terminus
Now,this was like an indie rock/post hardcore song with a really nice post rockish section. I quite enjoyed it. I really liked the GY!BEish section and the song was just fun to listen to.
So,am I gonna listen to the album?
Yes.
-
Glad you liked it! :) I hope you will like the album. I think it has a lot of things going on, and might require some listens to fully grow, but hopefully it will impress you right away.
-
It's a great album!
-
:corn
-
I have only heard one album 4 times. I have not checked out the reSt yet and I'm alrEady feeling like this album is great!
-
Oh my god. I listened to one of the albums again this morning and now I feel like it's actually the best one out of the three. Results in like 2 more hours.
-
I feel nervous. :sadpanda:
-
FINAL FINAL FINAL RESULTS!!! :metal
Ladies and gentlemen this is the final final final round blah blah blah. Ladies first.
MoraWintersoul: Sieges Even - The Art Of Navigating By The Stars
Now I finally understand why I'm constantly reminded to check these guys out… This was some delicious progressive rock/metal. The vocal work was consistently amazing and the instrumentation was technical in the non wankery way. This was quite a gem. Favorite track is really hard to decide but it's either The Weight or The Lonely Views Of Condors. Thanks a shit ton for participating and congrats on making it this far!
?:The Man Eating Tree - Harvest
This sounds a little like a more metal and gothic version of Katatonia. It was really enjoyable for the first 6 tracks then I started to get annoyed because I felt like there wasn't that much variety and the album was just dragging. I still loved Code Of Surrender and the awesome bonus track Everything Dies. Still, not something I'd listen to every month. Still, thanks for participating and congrats because you found some The Cure songs that I didn't hate. :lol
Zantera:Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You
Holy cow this REALLY grew on me. At first I wasn't even sure if I should listen to the album. Now,I'm glad I chose to do so. Unwound used to be a post hardcore band and all but with this album they evolved into an awesome Noise Rock/Post Rock/Indie Rock band. I loved the shorter songs like Demons Sing Love Songs but the epics like Terminus (the song you sent) and Below The Salt are just amazing. The album was really consistent during the whole 76 minutes. (Longest album sent.) This album is also the reason the results have been slightly late as I have been trying to finally "get" this album. Now I get it. This album fucking rocks.
Now,I think it's kinda obvious who came in third. I'm really sorry Ville,I really loved couple tracks and the albums was very enjoyable,it was all solid but for some reason it kinda lost my interest, making it hard to replay. That's why we're now only left with Zantera and Milena. Now,Milena sent me that Sieges Even album. It's easily some of the best progressive rock I've heard in a looooong time. It'd easily get above a 9 out of 10 from me. Songs like The Lonely Views Of Condors are extremely replayable and other proggy badass songs like Styx are also extremely well constructed. This is just one awesome album. Zantera's album took me more than 6 LISTENS to finally understand it all. It was probably a very risky move from the band to make such an album. Stuff like this does not happen that often in music. And it totally payed off for the band. And also for you. Now,let's decide which album I preferred...
Which album made me go "FUCK YEAH" more?
Sieges Even.
Which album gave me more goosebumps?
Sieges Even.
Which album am I gonna listen to more in the future?
Unwound.
Which album have me more satisfaction once I got into it?
Unwound.
WHICH ALBUM DID I LIKE MORE???
Congratulations to...
MILENA!
*crowds screams n stuff*
Even though I LOVED that Unwound album,I felt like Sieges Even's was a better put together album. That album had no slowdown,no filler. It was just a consistently amazing album. Zantera, your album was very awesome too. It took me many listens to finally get it all and in the end,I've made an amazing discovery. Sieges Even just set the bar way too high. (First album I heard) Maybe that could be why you didn't win. In the end,I love all you guys. :heart
So,thanks to every 13 of you (at least the ones reading..) for participating and recommending me amazing bands and albums. I hope I can do this again some other day because this was quite fun!
