Title: Nekov's Roulette pt. 3 v. Welcome to the battlefield - The end is here
Post by: Nekov on May 28, 2013, 06:44:03 PM
Welcome everyone to the newest edition of my roulette. The list of participants is as follows:

Scorpion
Lolzeez
Windmaster
UMH
MoraWintersoul
Zantera
Shadow Ninja 2.0
Kingshmegland

Rules:

There will be 9 rounds which will be scored from 1 to 7. First and last round will be open and the rest of them will have a theme. To add something different to the last couple I ran the 7 themed rounds will contain battles between participants in a round robin system which means everyone will have a match with every other participant. What will happen in this case is that the winner of each of those mini battles will get 1 extra point with 2 exceptions. If there is a flawless victory (7-1) the winner will get 2 points or if both participants are tied for 6 or 7 they will both receive an additional point.
Finally, any band that gets a 5 or above will no longer be usable.

Below is a link to a list of bands that I like so you can have a reference of what my tastes are as well as links for my last 2 roulettes. As you'll see I'm mostly into prog and metal however you shouldn't be afraid of sending something that strays from that as my tastes have widened and I'm looking for new stuff.

Round 1

Player: Windmaster
Artist:   *shels
Song: Butterflies (On Lucy’s Way)
Review: Some nice post rock here. The intro is very soothing and sweet and I enjoy how it suddenly transitions to a more intense atmosphere right after that. Overall I think it’s very well crafted and it flows quite well. That is until that big silence in the middle. At that point the song comes down for me because I feel like they extended the song unnecessarily. What comes after is still pretty nice but the mood is gone by that point. I will definitely check this band further.
Score: 5

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Keldian
Song: The Last Frontier
Review: Man you weren’t kidding when you said this song was cheesy :lol but then again, most power metal tends to be like that and it’s part of what makes it fun. My favorite part is by far the chorus, the voices merge very well and create a nice harmony. As much fun as it is, it still lacks something special but I think I might check some more of these guys.
Score: 5

Player: UMH
Artist: Rishloo
Song: River of Glass
Review: I liked this song but the flow doesn’t seem right. I started listening and enjoyed the instrumentation, the singing is not my favorite but still goes quite well with the song. But again, there were some points where the song seemed to change too drastically and lost the nice vibe that was generated.
Score: 3

Player: Zantera
Artist: Amplifier
Song: Extra Vehicular
Review: This is a hard song to rate. I listened to it a couple of times and each of them I got a different vibe or a different feeling. What I like the most are the transitions from calm to intense and during those intense parts I was able to enjoy the melodies a lot more. I feel the song is too long for it’s own good cause even though it varies, it’s not able to keep me interested all the way.
Score: 4

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Tetrafusion
Song: Spider Silk
Review: It’s amazing how the soothing intro becomes this intense and technical song so smoothly, but as with Zantera’s song, there are parts that I absolutely love but some others just feel flat and uninteresting and manage to break the nice mood. Special props to that guitar solo, really nice variations and very little overplaying.
Score: 4

Player: MoraWinterSoul
Artist: Cloudkicker
Song: Dysphoria
Review: I like when I hear a song where you can tell that the band is achieving exactly what they were looking for because everything seems to be very well placed. This song is metal as fuck, with some powerful ruffs, enjoyable melodies and a good drumming to back it all up. I want to listen to more of these guys
Score: 6

Player: King
Artist: I Mother Earth
Song: Soft Bomb Salad
Review: THAT BASS! This song perfect in every aspect, everything flows the right way, the instruments merge perfectly together, the song changes and never falls flat, the singer seems to understand the mood at all time and again, THAT BASS! I wasn’t able to stay still while listening to this song. You better keep up with this level king.
Score: 7

Player: Lolzeez
Artist:   Harmonium
Song: Vert (Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison)
Review: The intro to the song is very sweet and soothing with the song building up slowly and very nicely. The bass is really interesting and groovy and overall they are able to create some great melodies and it’s obvious that they know their prog but as with other songs, it’s not able to maintain the mood and at some points it becomes uninteresting.
Score: 4

Scorpion                  4
Lolzeez                    4
Windmaster              5
UMH                       3
MoraWintersoul         6
Zantera                   4
Shadow Ninja 2.0      5
King                        7

I'm updating the OP with the list of bands that were sent and are no longer usable.

Round 2

You have to send me a song that will make me smile. The match-ups are as follows:

MoraWintersoul vs King

Shadow Ninja 2.0 vs Lolzeez

Scorpion vs Windmaster

Zantera vs UMH

Remember, the winner takes an extra point.

Let me just ask you about the scoring for round 2, will it be based only on how well it makes you smile/laugh, or do you judge the quality of the song as well? :P Otherwise it will be a challenge finding something balanced that is both really good and makes someone smile.

In case anyone cares, that Tetrafusion album is available at no cost (well, it's "name your price") on their Bandcamp.com page here: https://tetrafusion.bandcamp.com/ (https://tetrafusion.bandcamp.com/)

I threw them a $5 spot for it and I think it's worth it.  Nice album, overall.

Round 2 Results - The Mr. Bungle Round

Player: MoraWinterSoul
Artist: Bruce Dickinson
Song: I’m in a band with an Italian drummer
Review: Another song that is very disconnected and quite uninteresting. Not even Bruce with his awesome voice manages to pick it up
Score:   2

Player: King
Artist: Phish
Song: Down With Disease
Review: Funky beats once again. Another fun song with a fantastic bassline complemented with easy guitars and simple drumming. I’m not a fan of the little cuts in between the song but every time they manage to pick it up and go back to the nice funky mood again. Smile achieved.
Score: 5 + 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Gotthard
Song: Lift u up
Review: I’m surprised this band isn’t more famous cause they do a really good hard rock. As the title implies, this song really manages to lift me up, with very clever drumming, guitars where they’re supposed to be and some nice vocals as well. Still not a song that blows my mind but one that I really enjoyed. It got a smile from me
Score: 6 + 1

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Gong
Song: Witch’s Song, I am your pussy
Review: Weird song. The instrumentation is good, specially the saxophone. Overall I think they do a good classic prog however the female vocals bring the song down a lot. Without those I think the song stands very strongly. Smile achieved.
Score: 5

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Zantera
Artist: Mr. Bungle
Song: Ars Moriendi
Review: This song just seems too random and unconnected. There were some moments where it managed to catch my attention but those were brief.
Score: 2

Player: UMH
Artist: Mr. Bungle
Song: Squeeze me Macaroni
Review: This was a bit more enjoyable than what Zantera sent because of that funky bassline and the good use of winds but overall it was too quirky and disconnected
Score: 3 + 1

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Scorpion
Artist: The Fratellis
Song: Henrietta
Review: Not something I would find myself listening yet it did the trick. It’s a quite simple song but it has a nice groove and is uplifting. Got me to smile, but I got a bit over it after the 3 listen.
Score: 4 + 1

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Mr. Bungle
Song: Goodbye Sober Day
Review: Evidently this band is not for me. See Zantera’s song review
Score: 2

Totals so far

13 - King
12 - Shadow Ninja 2.0

Admittedly, they aren't the best idea for song roulettes. It takes a lot to get over the initial "good god what the fuck is going on and why" factor and appreciate the brilliance within.

Well, some songs are more accessible than others, though. In my roulette, for instance, I fell in love with Pink Cigarette instantly and it scored very high.

Anyway, I have an idea what to send. Expect it shortly.

Round 3- The girls took over the place

Player: MoraWintersoul
Artist: Elfonia
Song: Nuestro Descanso
Review: Well, Marcela’s voice is quite soothing and beautiful and suits this song perfectly however I found it to be a little too calm for my taste. I can’t really criticize what’s done in the song because I think it’s a well crafted song but again, not my cup of tea
Score: 3

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Curved air
Song: Marie Antoinette
Review: Viva la Nacion! This was a fun song both because of the lyrics and the music, this being a well rounded classic prog with nice melodies and arrangements. The vocalist is quite good and though the voice is a little weird it fits the style of music quite well. The only down part is the middle when they stop and come up with something quite different, while it’s interesting it’s too unconnected.
Score: 5 + 1

-------------------------------------------------------

Player: King
Artist: Sarah McLachlan
Song: Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Review: Man, this woman can sing. I have encountered feelings here cause the music is a little dull but that sets a perfect scenario for her to show all her attributes. Not all the music is dull though, there are some nice guitar solos and the backing keyboards generate a nice atmosphere.
Score: 5 + 1

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Luna Mortis
Song: Ash
Review: Some nice metal here with strong riffs and a solid bassline. The drums are a little overplayed at some points but overall a good job is done. Now coming to the vocals, the singers voice is beautiful which brings me to the question, why the growls? So unnecessary. That brings the song down for me.
Score: 4

-------------------------------------------------------

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Heather Dale
Song: Mordred's Lullaby
Review: Another strong submission. The whole song is based on the dark mood that it generates and which is perfectly contrasted with the flutes. Another strong singer that seems to be very capable and does exactly what the song calls for at all times.
Score: 6 + 1

Player: UMH
Artist: Akphaezya
Song: Chrysalis
Review: As you said in the email, it’s amazing how versatile this woman is and how easily she changes styles. Unfortunately the rest of the band can’t keep up with the awesome. There are some great passages in this song but again it’s another case of the song being too unconnected and just drifting through different styles without spending enough time in each section to develop something worth of being remembered. And again I ask the same question, why the growls? Her normal voice is extremely beautiful.
Score: 3

-------------------------------------------------------

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Dresden Dolls
Song: Mandy goes to med school
Review: I received a song from this band in one of my prior roulettes and I liked it a lot more than this one. The singer’s voice is quite good and a bit uncommon, at least to what I’m used to, but the music itself is quite uninteresting really, way too repetitive for it’s own good
Score: 3

Player: Zantera
Artist: Beach House
Song: Other People
Review: I felt so relaxed every time I listened to this song and it also made me smile which is always good. In this specific case the singers voice doesn’t stand out but it merges perfectly with the instrumentation. A soothing yet happy atmosphere is generated, supported by some simple drumming and nice keyboard melodies. I will have to check this further cause it goes right down my alley
Score: 7 + 1

It's interesting that you find that song catchy but that goes to show how differently people can experience music cause I didn't think it was catchy at all.
As I mentioned, I received the song Sing from TDD on a previous roulette and that one I do find to be very catchy

Round 4 Results

Player: MoraWinterSoul
Artist: Animals As Leaders
Song: CAFO
Review: This song starts out really powerful and a bit crazy, the guitar work done here is of the charts really as is the bass guitar playing. The way they handle the time signatures is flawless really and the same thing can be said for the execution. I specially enjoy the way they are able to mix all that craziness with the few bits of the song that are more calm. Overall it’s very solid though I lost a bit of interest after a couple of listens because they rely too much on their technical skills.
Score: 5

Player: Windmaser
Artist: Russian Circles
Song: Mladek
Review: The start of this song is just perfect, beautiful and upbeat with a guitar melody that is able to generate this feeling of being tightly embraced by something peaceful. It really surprised me how it goes from that to a darker mood the first time I listened to it but the transition works very well in the long run. All in all they manage to produce a tight sound which is quite captivating.
Score: 6 + 1

-----------------------------------------------------------

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Extra Ball
Song: Narodziny
Review: Normally Jazz is a hit or miss for me and in this case you got a hit. I first I thought it was gonna go the other way because of the slow starts but then it picks up quite nicely, especially with the winds and the eclectic drumming. The guitar doesn’t stay behind either. The song ends where it started, slow and a bit random.
Score: 5

Player: UMH
Artist: Scale the Summit
Song: The Great Plains
Review: I’m not sure how to describe this song at all cause it works at so many levels. They manage to build a very good atmosphere with some very enjoyable melodies and they can transition into full prog mode without any kind of problem. The more proggy parts didn’t sound as natural and didn’t flow quite right yet I got caught up in them too.
Score: 6 + 1

-----------------------------------------------------------

Player: King
Artist: Steve Morse Band
Song: Cruise Missil
Review: I saw Steve live in the last G3 and it blew my mind but for some reason I didn’t look more into his solo work. I can only assume that the bass here is played by Larue because it kicks all kinds of ass and that something that stands out to me from Steve, even though it’s his show he lets the other guys in the band show off. Overall this song kicks ass.
Score: 6

Player: Zantera
Artist: Agalloch
Song: Odal
Review: I like this song yet it’s a bit hard for me to say why. It has a particular kind of intensity because at no point does it get heavy. I take this song as a journey really, at no point does it stay in a particular place even though it doesn’t make any drastic change, the transitions being very smooth. The ending throws it off with the wind sound mixed with those other weird sounds.
Score: 6

-----------------------------------------------------------

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Lindsey Stirling
Song: Spontaneous Me
Review: Ah, the sweet sound of violin, one of my favorite instruments when it’s used right. Her execution is quite good and the melodies she creates are interesting and well crafted but overall the electronic super mainstream backing takes a bit of the magic away.
Score: 4

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Buckethead
Song: Hills of Eternity
Review: Wow, I never thought this guy was able to create such beautiful melodies. I always thought he was a weird guy that played weird music but I’m glad to be proven wrong. Basic drums but effective, provide a simple structure to support the guitar melodies that are quite perfect. Those random sounds are weird but somehow they fit the song quite well.
Score: 6 + 1

Round 5

Player: MoraWintersoul
Artist: Enochian Theory
Song: The Aching Isolation
Review: Slow start, slow build up and a good delivery. The cadence of the song is quite interesting and the melodies created are very nice. I like the keyboard work in particular providing a great background for the rest of the band to work. I’m not much of a fan of the singer, he’s OK but I’d prefer someone else. All in all, solid song from start to finish
Score: 5 + 1

Player: UMH
Artist: Ghost
Song: Ghuleh / Zombie Queen
Review: Weird song. I liked the piano work done all along the song but the changes from let’s call it “happy” to dark are a bit disconcerting. I like how the song goes to a more upbeat pace later but at the same time they include some weird (polka?) elements that I don’t feel fit the song quite well.
Score: 4

------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Alcest
Song: Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles
Review: I was immediately immersed in this song, it creates an atmosphere from the start that doesn’t let you go. It felt nice while I was there until the growlings and blast beats come into place. I didn’t hate them cause the guitar work is used in contrast with that so it doesn’t feel extreme but still that’s out of my comfort zone. The second half of the song is even more interesting than the first, starting slow and building up more and more until it settles in another captivating atmosphere.
Score: 6 + 1

Player: Zantera
Artist: Pure Reason Revolution
Song: The Gloaming
Review: Usually electronic music is not my thing but in this case you nailed it, particular because of how those elements interact with the piano. The percussion is also quite good, especially since it sounds very natural for the most part but then again, in the long run it’s still something I enjoy in bits and pieces. I’ll listen to this guys a bit more to see what else they have to offer.
Score: 5

------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: The Ocean
Song: Bathyalpelagic . Parts 1 - 3 (instrumental)
Review: Another song that has a great piano work accompanied by a huge intensity from the rest of the band. This is very technical but not going over the edge, managing to produce some good guitar riffs mixed with a great time signature management. That is until the 3rd part, where everything becomes more dense, throwing blast beats and going for unnecessary speed.
Score: 4

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Diablo Swing Orchestra
Song: A Tap Dancer’s Dilemma
Review: So much groove on this song mixed with a distorted guitar which goes great. I love the female vocal accompaniment but I don’t care much for the kinda spoken male vocals. They are great at transitioning the upbeat sections with the more calm ones and the bass work is perfect at keeping the rhythm.
Score: 5 + 1

------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: King
Artist: Jolly
Song: Dust Nation Bleak
Review: I enjoyed the chorus but the rest of the song didn’t appeal to me. Even though I like metal this particular kind is not my cup of tea, it seems a bit too chaotic.
Score: 3 + 1

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Tom Waits
Song: Hell Broke Luce
Review: Hmm, well this is nowhere near my ballpark. There are some bits and pieces that seem alright but Tom’s voice is just horrible and the song can’t seem to catch my attention.
Score: 2

Totals so far

I've got the oddest instrument used in a song ever but it's nor a prog song.  Hell, it's not Rock but the lyrics are freaking awesome.  I'll have to think about this one.

Round 6

Player: MoraWintersoul
Artist: A Forest of Stars
Song: Left Behid as Static
Review: The mix of string instruments is pretty neat at the beginning and it goes very well with the percussion and then from that little intro transitions very smoothly to the more intense part. I’m not into the singer to be honest but since he doesn’t participate a lot that’s OK. I also didn’t enjoy the section where the drums go into an almost blast beat, I feel that’s quite unnecessary but overall I enjoyed the song, even though it’s intense I felt a sense of calm.
Score: 5

Player: Zantera
Artist: The River Empires
Song: A Toast to the Snake King
Review: Man, banjo is such a great instrument and one of my favorites when it’s played the right way. I enjoy every aspect of this song, the smooth vocals accompanied by the great vocal arrangements, the constant upbeat drumming that never seems in excess, the violin melodies, the smooth transitions, just everything.
Score: 7 + 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: UMH
Artist: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Song: Angle of Repose
Review: Is there something you listen that is not weird? :lol The song starts a bit slow but then it turned into something weird which made me think of King Crimson  and turned to a strange mix of atmospheric prog mixed with a more technical approach. The song is definitely sustained in the  use of out of the ordinary instruments and all of them are put to a good use. Not a fan of the singer to be honest, her voice is a bit harsh at times.
Score: 5 + 1

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Caravan Palace
Song: Brotherswing
Review: I love the vibe they are able to come up sustained by a very good bass work. Nevertheless the excess of electronic elements brings it down for me. The singers voice is very adequate to the song and the wind instrument fits quite well too.
Score: 4

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Dropkick Murphys
Song: The Irish Rover
Review: This was so fun to listen to, very irish indeed. I’m not crazy about the vocals in the song though I guess they fit the song. There’s not much I can say about the instrumentation, Irish music well played but nothing special about it
Score: 4 + 1

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Shining
Song: I won’t forget
Review: Well, the intro to the song is nice but then it loses any appeal it had. The vocals are harsh and while they fit the song, this is not the kind of metal I enjoy. The intensity is right but the instrumentation isn’t
Score: 3

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: King
Artist: Guster
Song: Barrel of a Gun
Review: Sweet song, very soothing and enjoyable. The bongo playing adds a lot to ir, the singer’s voice is fantastic and the guitar work is just so smart. I like how it manages to switch the mood in such little time and still be fitting. And holy shit typewriter solo :lol. I can’t say it adds much to the song but it’s quite fun
Score: 6 + 1

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Comus
Song: The Bite
Review: Good classic prog here. The song is driven by the flute and very well. The vocals are a bit annoying and bring the song down because they are very present. I think without that this song could be a lot better because the melodies and are quite interesting and the execution is very good.
Score: 4

Nekov, how do you feel about songs that are mostly acoustic but eventually have a heavier reprise of some kind towards the end of the song. Are those legal or does it have to be acoustic throughout?

Okay, does acoustic mean:
a) entirely an unplugged song
b) entirely an acoustic-guitar dominated song
c) A song where the acoustic guitar and/or other non-electric instruments have an important or leading role but there's bits of electric stuff going on too

I'm assuming that the first option is what he meant. But that last option seems quite cool.   ;)

Round 7

Player: Morawintersoul
Artist: Harmaja
Song: Sydäntalvella
Review: Nice song. At first I found it difficult to like the singer’s voice cause I felt it was too deep for the song but upon a couple more listens I started enjoying the contrast. The instrumentation is quite nice, with nice guitar melodies and a very enjoyable piano. The song gains so much with the change of intensity towards the end that I feel it should last a little longer to have more enjoyment.
Score: 5

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Green Carnation
Song: The Burden is Mine... Alone
Review: A very sonic piece of music. I love how every new instrument or melody that’s added fits so well and smoothly. The wind instrumentation is particularly good providing much of the mood in the song and the guitar work by itself is a bit odd but in the greater scheme flows quite well.
Score: 6 + 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Zantera
Artist: The tallest man on earth
Song: Love is all
Review: The song is quite beautiful and easy to listen except maybe for the singer, his voice drives me off a bit, way too harsh for this song.
Score: 4 + 1

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Van Canto
Song: Last Night of the Kings
Review: Hmm, well, I must say it was a bit fun to listen to this but a capella stuff was never my cup of tea. They guys are quite good at why they do, I’ll give you that but it lacks something. Special mention to the female vocalist, such a beautiful voice.
Score:   3

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: UMH
Artist: Bright Eyes
Song: Make War
Review: There’s not much in this song that appeals to me, it’s soothing and very friendly but it seems to samey all throughout, and doesn’t have any element to make it shine.
Score: 3

Player: King
Artist: Dada
Song: Star you are
Review: Another song that is a bit meh for me. It’s sweet and relaxing but hasn’t got anything that draws my attention.
Score: 3

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Vamp
Song: Tir N’a Noir
Review: Beautiful song. The guitar melody is very relaxing and enjoyable, the vocal melodies and arrangements are just perfect for the mood. I loved the mandolin and the flute, both of them added a nice touch to the song.
Score: 6 + 1

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Neil Young
Song: Heart of gold
Review: I don’t think I get American folk music. The song is nice and enjoyable but it’s another case of lacking something that makes me want to listen to it again.
Score: 3

Round 8

Sorry for the delay guys, I've been sick the last couple of days.

Player: MoraWintersoul
Artist: Lunatic Soul
Song: Wanderings
Review: I wasn’t aware that this guy was in another band other than Riverside. I like how soothing and calm the song is which goes perfectly well with Mariusz’ voice. While the main core of the song is pretty simple it has quite a lot of arrangements that are very good, also simple but the combination works amazingly.
Score: 6

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Imagine Dragons
Song: It’s time
Review: Smile achieved . I love everything about this song,it’s so happy and joyful. I feel like I could listen to it all day long without ever getting tired of it.
Score: 7 + 1

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Dog Fashion Disco
Song: Silent Film
Review: The song has a couple of interesting bits here and there, specially the guitar riffs but the vocals kill this song. I really can’t manage to get past them and it’s a shame because if it wasn’t for that I’m sure I’d really enjoy this song a lot.
Score: 3

Player: King
Artist: Echolyn
Song: Some Memorial
Review: When the song starts I get all worked up with the guitar riff and the keyboards, they work very well together but then I feel disappointed. The song is good but I feel it promised much more than it delivered and I feel that it could be shorter and work better that way.
Score: 4 + 1

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: Zantera
Artist: Tame Impala
Song: It is not meant to be
Review: You weren’t kidding when you said these guys sound like the Beatles but while that influence is very recognizable I can also say that their sound has a unique quality to it.  I enjoyed the song quite a lot, it generates an atmosphere that is hard to get out of and is quite calm and soothing even though there’s a lot going on. The only thing I have against it is the ending cause I feel they could have cut the song a bit earlier.
Score: 5 + 1

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Song: Mladic
Review: So as much as I like Post Rock this clearly isn’t the band for me. At no point did the song get my attention and the fact that the song lasts 20 minutes makes that worse. I didn’t hate it, but I wouldn’t listen to it again.
Score: 2

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Player: UMH
Artist: Nails
Song: In Exodus
Review: Thank god this song only lasts a little bit over a minute, it’s just noise to me, and not a nice one.
Score:

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Kaizers Orchestra
Song: Hjerteknuser
Review: This is different. I’m not sure why but it reminded me a bit of one of Naruto’s songs (haven’t watched that in years). Really nice and enjoyable song, all the string work is wonderfully put together and the singers voice is quite beautiful. The way the song is put together is very unique and I feel it flows the right way all along.
Score: 6 + 1

That's the only thing that matters, yes, I am just amused by how people always perform most awesomely in rounds when they're against me :lol

I sent my song, but there was a problem with gmail, so I sent it from my outlook. (jimmy.olofsson@outlook.com) I did put "Zantera" in there like 2-3 times (and in the title), so it's probably easy to spot. :P Hopefully you'll like it!

Final round

Player: Shadow Ninja 2.0
Artist: Voyager
Song: Lost
Review: Very enjoyable metal, with good riffs and some neat keyboard work, whether it’s providing background or producing interesting melodies. I like how the song slows, it’s quite smooth. The vocalist is not great but his voice fits the song quite well. Overall a solid song.
Score: 6

Player: Zantera
Artist: Jane’s Addiction
Song: Three Days
Review: Interesting song. It starts being slow and dark, not really showing much but the it transforms, going to an upbeat and happier tone. I must mention that awesome solo, it’s not about technique but 100% about feeling and it makes great at that. The bassline that supports it is great, it’s impossible not to notice it even though the guitar is taking center stage badly. I also like the little percussion section right after the solo ends, really cool. And then the song closes with great intensity. Fantastic
Score: 6

Player: Scorpion
Artist: Pain of Salvation
Song: Idioglossia
Review: Nice instrumentation throughout the song. What stood out to me in that regard was the drum work being able to maintain the line through all the changes and doing a really good job in each section. The rest of the band is also good though sometimes the music seemed a little too forced, it didn’t sound natural. The vocals are what brings this song down for me the most, I just wasn’t able to get into them.
Score: 4

Player: Lolzeez
Artist: This will destroy you
Song: Quiet
Review: The song does great justice to its name, very soothing and relaxing even when it gets more intense. Everything just seems to fall in place generating a great atmosphere that embraces the listener and doesn’t let go, exactly what I like about post-rock.
Score: 6

Player: UMH
Artist: Dillinger escape plan
Song: When good dogs do bad things
Review: There were bits of the song I liked but most of it was too intense and noisy for me
Score: 2

Player: MoraWintersoul
Artist: Ulver
Song: Not Saved
Review: This song was a bit too much relaxed. While I enjoyed the peace it generates it just gets boring halfway through.
Score: 3

Player: Windmaster
Artist: Ulver
Song: Eos
Review: This Ulver song has a bit more consistency to it, the melody varies more and the fact that it has vocals makes it more interesting. Again, very peaceful and soothing but still a bit to much for my taste
Score: 4

Player: King
Artist: Ephrat
Song: The Show
Review: This song doesn’t do it for me. While it has some nice moments where I really enjoyed what I was hearing most of it was a bit dense, with a strange slow pace that I didn’t like. The arabic instrumental section with the bongos is one of the parts I liked the most, way to use some of their native music.
Score: 4

Final scores

51 - Zantera
48 - Windmaster
48 - King
45 - Shadow Ninja 2.0
43 - Scorpion
41 - MoraWintersoul
