I will begin when I have messages from every tentative participant, and if someone is unable to join, someone else can step in.

So, let's rock!

How many rounds will there be and are there any themes?

  of course I forgot.

8 rounds, everyone will have a special theme, no open rounds.

I'm not giving the first theme in advance, because it shouldn't really give hard time for you.

OK, I got everyone's response, so I'm ready to give the first round theme.

Round 1 - Here we go!
As I said, there will be no open rounds. But my themes shouldn't be too tricky.

Let's begin the roulette with style. Send me a song that is opening track of an album, or has been used as a live concert opener.

Deadline 28 April

General notes: If you're going to be unable to use computer during the roulette, e-mail me beforehand, so I can give you the themes needed.

There will be short hiatus in mid-May, because my school's music theater project has three shows on consecutive dates.

Ruba, are we cool for this round?

My lips are sealed.

Jammed again, dammit! Hold on people. My mailbox seems to be rather small, so send only short songs .

Nah, I created a Gmail account to get YouTube account. I'll check how much room is there.

Diego, I found your song from YouTube, so I'll get it from there.

E:Looks like my Gmail acoount has 10,1 gigabytes, where as my shitty Luukku has only has tiny 8,5 megabytes.

Rules update: Forthcoming submissions should be sent to ilee.parkkinen@gmail.com

Well, I re-resent it already :lol Hopefully it'll work...

And now I got two copies  :lol.

So far I've recieved Ville's, RJ's, Diego's and Nem's submissions. Tomorrow I'll have plenty of time to listen.

RESULTS: ROUND 1!

lonestar - Mechanical Poet - Handmade Essence

You send me something from Russia? Get out!

Nah, as long as Vladimir Putin doesn't play in it, it's alright. Cool prog/power metal song, which has many things stuffed in a little under 4 minutes, it never gets boring. Nice vocalist, he sounds a bit like Michael Kiske.

8,8

Scorpion - Agalloch - Limbs

You said this one is a grower, and it might still grow, but at this moment I'm not giving a higher score. The intro was good, but seemed to be a bit out-of-place, because it didn't fit the mood of the rest of the song. The middle-section was my favourite, it has many catchy melodies. Powerful outro. The song has a feel of forest in winter, which a like, but I cannot fully emphatize to it, because it's full spring here  :lol. Pretty weird opener, but a decent song nevertheless.

7

? - Verenpisara - Tie

I remember you mentioning this band in "I'm the only fan of this band in DTF"-topic. Well, I don't think you're alone anymore. Mostly based on one good chord progression, the variety comes from different melodies. Really tasty guitar work overall and my favourite guitar solo of any submissions. The most listener-friendly song I recieved, and it's not bad thing at all.

9

obscure - Circa Survive - The Birth of Economic Hit Man

And the award of the best song title of this round goes to... This really grew on me, after the first listen I would have given a half of the final points. Pretty melancholic and dark piece. One of the best bass tones I have ever heard. At first I couldn't stand the vocalist, but now I like him. The last three minutes of the song are just phenomenal.

9,4

Nekov - Riverside - Beyond the Eyelids

I like the groove in this track. Proggy, but not too proggy, the instrumentation is top notch. The bass riff at around 2:10 and the manic riffing after it is my favourite part. However, I didn't like the chorus being repeated twice, they should've put something between them. Nice slowly diminishing outro.

8,1

WindMaster - Brand New - Sowing Season (Yeah)

I had previously heard one song from this band (The Archers' Bows Have Broken), and I somewhat liked it, though not really the vocalist. How wrong was I?! He does fantastic work in this song. Clean intro builds slowly up and then bursts into great guitar melody and heavy power chords. The snare drum is being used an unorthodox way. And the chorus is MASSIVE! I'm so going to learn to play this song by guitar. Excellent submission!

9,6

MoraWintersoul - Dark Tranquillity - Wonders at Your Feet

I have never really liked melodic death metal. But I had to listen to this song twice on the first listening spree, because I didn't really knew what just struck me! The shortest song I recieved, clocking only slightly over three minutes, and it really packs a punch. I love the chord progression, and the vocalist is nice, sorta sounds like Al Jourgensen. I was giving 0,1 lower score at first, but the guitar and keyboard solos changed my mind, so you are now tied with Austin.

9,6

Lolzeez - Haken - The Point of No Return

Ookkay... The first WTF moment was at half minutes, when it turned to some strange circus music. The song indeed took many unexpected turns, into circus music, doom metal, jazz... Maybe a little too messy song. The first four minutes didn't really do anything to me. Instrumental section was, however, really fun, especially the guitar/keyboard/bass/drums-tradeoff solo. Nice epic finish. I also like the vocalist quite a bit.

6,8

Standings:
WindMaster 9,6
MoraWintersoul 9,6
obscure 9,4
? 9
lonestar 8,8
Nekov 8,1
Scorpion 7
Lolzeez 6,8

Thank you, this was a great round!

The next one is probably the trickiest one, but I think you can manage.

Round 2 - Ethnopop

Send me something with some ethnic elements. It can be some more rare instrument, a feel or whatever you like. But I want also the song to be popular music (which is rather loose theme, just don't send fully folk music). And I want the ethnicity really to be present.

Deadline May 2nd

What I'm saying is that you're most likely basing your scoring on a scale from 0 to 10, where 10 would be a 'perfect' song. Such a song doesn't exist in my opinion, although some stuff comes damn close. Anyway; you score FOUR songs above 9 and two of them with only a .4 difference of being a 'perfect' song. There's just no way you can justify these insane scores. People tend to score songs ridiculously highly and this is just another example of that.

Excuse my rant.

To be fair with him I thought of sending that song but went another way because I don't think Point of no Return is a good introduction to Haken.

:lol I agree a bit with this but people score whatever they feel like though this kind of scoring make people in my roulette complain for the low scores they get  :P

I actually do think that there are perfect songs (yes, many, though not in the way "OK, no one will make better song ever, the music is over, go home"), so I have no problem giving high score if I like the song.

Great to hear that you liked it! :burns: Which solo are you're referring to as the best: the one after the second chorus or the one at the end? Either way, Tomi Koivusaari's lead work is tasteful indeed, although he's better known as a rhythm guitarist.

Looks like I wouldn't have needed to ask the theme in advance, but I would've sent the same song anyway, so it doesn't matter.

RESULTS

Sorry for my write-ups, I'm really tired.

? - Kingston Wall - And I Hear You Call
The main riff has been caught in my head a lot. Nice prog rock song with oriental influences, I really love the drumming in it.
8,8

Scorpion - Myrath - Under Siege
Tunisian heavy metal, cool! Their ethnic background can certainly be heard. Heavy 7-string-guitar riffing is supported by tasty string synths. I expected for more powerful chorus, but after all, a very good song. I guess the lyrics are influenced by the Arab Spring?
8,5

Nekov - Korpiklaani - Väkirauta
Noo, you should have send something Argentinian. I have heard some Astor Piazzolla played by one classical quartet and it sounded great. However, I like Finnish folk music and this made no difference, even though being quite heavy. Very fun song. Accordion solo  :lol :metal.

Grooveshark jams a lot, please don't use it. mp3:s are alright again due to change of e-mail address.
9,1

WindMaster - Mumford & Sons - The Cave
Beautiful and rather uplifting folk track. I don't usually like banjo, but it is used well here.
8

MoraWintersoul - Skyclad - Inequality Street
I fell in love with this song as soon as it began. The only song with Celtic influences I recieved. Seems to be a bit cheek-in-tongue, makes me smile. Damn fine song, and I love the vocalist's accent.
9,5

obscure - The Tea Party - Gyroscope
Again you send me a grower, I like this now much more than on the first listen. The shortest song I've got so far, but it has many great elements compressed in a short amount of time without feeling incomplete. Might be the noisiest one this round aswell.
8,7

Lolzeez - Shakti - Mind Ecology
Well this one's interesting. There's a fast-paced percussion and some Indian instrument in the background, and an acoustic guitar and a violin playing over it. The musicianship is indeed excellent. Very different to everything else I recieved, but very good.
8,3

lonestar - Myrath - Tales of the Sand
Popular band in DTF I assume?  :lol But I do understand. Great intro, I wish it had been longer. I like the oriental percussion present throughout. The chorus in Arabic is a nice twist. I think this song sounds like an album closer, but apparently it isn't, so I'm interested to find out have they made something more suitable for this album. At least it was a great closer to my listening sessions.

I was thinking about having a theme like this for some round in my own roulette! :lol I may still use it though ;)

Anyway, nice to see I'm #3 currently! :tup I'll do some listening and send something tomorrow...

Sorry guys, this round might take some time. I decided to have yesterday rest, because, my school's music theater project has been take my time (three practices and the premiere in five days), my band had one gig and I have been in school also. I want to focus on listening, not to use the submissions as a background music. I can't always find the time for it.

I hope I can get this round done not later than Tuesday.

RESULTS ROUND 3

Well here we are... with a bunch of acoustic guitars and some keyboards. Sorry, I'm a terrible host, but I think the most busy times are now behind. The theater project is in the evenings, I can listen music in afternoon, so there's no problem with that.

WindMaster - Ulver - Eos
Not a song you can whistle. Very ambient. It doesn't have any catchy melodies or clear verse-chorus-verse-pattern. It just is. And sounds damn awesome. Because of it's eclecticness I find it very hard to be scored, but have a high score before I'll change my mind.
9,8

Scorpion - Buckethead - Swomee Swan
The first instrumental so far. Basically a five-minute guitar solo, but the guitar work is overall very tasty and the song has a very strong chillout feel, the intensity rises only in a couple of places.
8,8

Nekov - Anathema - Are You There?
An acoustic remake of their own song. Makes me smile. Very beautiful, I love it when another acoustic guitar enters.
8,9

? - Antimatter - Relapse
The first song with female vox. And the first song to get the full points. Ding-ding-ding! Based on acoustic guitar and keyboards (one pad-like sound, other plays melody), it is very calm and rather sad. I love the keyboard break after the first chorus, and the vocals are brilliant.
10

lonestar - IQ - Wintertell
Light music, dark lyrics. Great melodies overall. Sound quality is a bit rough, but it doesn't take the points down.
9,3

obscure - Pain of Salvation - Road Salt
This was a live version. Very minimalistic, only keyboards and vocals. And it wouldn't have needed anything else. Those vocals are just  :heart.
9,6

MoraWintersoul - Green Carnation - The Burden Is Mine... Alone
Norway FTW! There's some quality music there. Another acoustic guitar based song, maybe not just as enjoyable as the other guitar songs, but very good still.
8,7

Lolzeez - Harmonium - Depuis L'Automne
Canadian prog band, singing in French. Lyrics sound cool, though I don't understand them (I ran them through Google translator though). A few different sections, all of which are cool. And the outro is just awesome.

Si c'est un rêve réveille-moi donc
Ça va être notre tour ça sera pas long
C'est par icitte que ça s'en vient

 :heart

9,5

Damn me and my tendency to give high scores  :lol. Elite's head might explode if he sees this.

Standings:

obscure 27,7
WindMaster 27,4

RESULTS ROUND 4

Nekov - Forward Shapes - Proclivity
Prog metal, with lots of piano. Production could be better, but it don't mind it that much, just saying. A lovely vocalist, and one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. Nice chorus.
9,1

obscure - Triosphere - Marionette
Heavy song. And a female bassist-vocalist... you can tell I'm into her. She has rather raw voice, but I like it. Excellent drumming here.
9,4

lonestar - Beautiful Sin - Take Me Home
I'm not usually a power metal nut, but this is pretty good. Rather straightforward and in-your-face. I really like the vocalist, but her English pronounciation could be better. I'd rather hear her singing in French or Dutch, whichever is her native language.
8,8

? - Portishead - Roads
Pretty quiet and melancholic song. The music sounds like some background music used in Cold Feet TV series. It could've been slightly shorter though, but quite enjoyable still.
8,1

Scorpion - The Dresden Dolls - Delilah
Oooh yeah  :hat. I guess this had only drums and piano aside vocals (I'm not sure if I heard a bass guitar)? Well this song doesn't need anything more. I got hooked to the story. And I like Amanda's vocals, she uses a big vocal range and dynamics change from almost whispering to more powerful delivery. The use of different vocal styles (not her voice) reminds me of Trent Reznor and Agnete Kjolsrud. Her voice control is just incredible. I can't give anything less than a jackpot.
10

Lolzeez - Fleetwood Mac - Dreams
Quite simple song. Simple 4/4 beat, but it's one of my favourite things in the song, it gives a feeling of going forward. Lovely vocals.
8,9

MoraWintersoul - The Gathering - Saturnine
This song is a bit puzzling. Basically there isn't anything new after 2:10 and the song goes still on for 3 minutes. I'm still bit torn on whether it is good or bad. Weird drum sounds, but I'm starting to like them. I like the chorus.
7,9

WindMaster - Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks
This didn't fit theme, because it was kind of a male/female-duet. But I forgot to update the round info so I let this in. And some of the other submissions featured male backing vocals, but I don't mind.

Anyway, nice poppy song. This apparently was a hit, but I rarely listen to the radio so I had completely missed this  :lol. Nothing special, but it will ring in my head and was pretty good anyway. Cool video  :lol.
8,5

School is over and I have plenty of time with my forum duties... bullshit.

Anyway.

ROUND 5 RESULTS

obscure - Ihsahn - The Pain Is Still Mine
Well, this is theatrical, but not over the top... very much. Prog metal with some black metal influences. The vocals are pouring with emotion. Great faster middle section. A very powerful track, but maybe slightly too long.
9

? - Katatonia - The Racing Heart
Not so theatrical, but emotional nevertheless. Nice use of keyboards and electronica. Very good chorus, sounds radio-friendly, but not generic.
9,1

Nekov - Tool - The Grudge
I have clearly been missing out something by never hearing them before  :lol. Slowly growing track, with a strong very rhythm. The energy is released little by little, then it calms down a bit only to come out with a massive surge in the outro (great scream!).
9,8

WindMaster - The Ocean - Demersal: Cognitive Dissonance
The newest song so far, the album has been out for just over a month. And probably the heaviest this round, at least production-wise. Vocals are between growl and clean, they fit the music well. Loving the doomy outro.
9,2

lonestar - THE DEADSTATION. - Drugs for the Pain Inside
Best word to describe this song is: manic. The drummer must be in great physical condition  :lol. The band has rather interesting concept; each album is an episode of fictional TV series and one song is one scene. So far they've released one EP. Interesting us of keyboards and a good vocalist, though I don't like the electronically manipulated parts very much. Hmmm... I wouldn't change the station if this were on  :lol.
9,2

MoraWintersoul - OSI - Kicking
You know, after three very heavy and rather lengthy tracks this feels almost soothing. At first I didn't really like Kev's vocals, but they're growing on me. I've begun to like electronic music, so this suits it well. And maybe for the first time in this roulette I'm singing along. "Don't start telling love is a symphony..."
9

Scorpion - Swallow the Sun - Out of This Gloomy Light
And here is probably the darkest song I've recieved. Very beautiful melodies, but there is one thing I don't like: vocals. No, I don't want to hear this with clean vocals, but I'd rather hear less staccato growls (here it is ROAR-ROAR-ROAR, I prefer ROAAAAR-ROAAAAR-ROAAAAR). The lyrics are very beautiful, but I can't really hear them without reading them simultaneously. Anyway, I don't want to focus on things I don't like, because there are  only little of them. You'll get a high score too.
9

Lolzeez - Van Der Graaf Generator - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers
No sweat, this stuff really needs to be heard! A prog epic with multiple sections, and the longest track in the roulette so far (23:13). Whereas some prog epics don't feel like a one whole song, this works quite well. So far I don't really like Pictures/Lighthouse-movement, but maybe it'll open with more time. I really like the vocalist.
9,5

And I don't usually like dark music that much  :lol.

Standings:
obscure 46,1
WindMaster 45,1
? 45
lonestar 45
Nekov 45
MoraWintersoul 44,7
Scorpion 43,4
Lolzeez 43

So Nem is still rockin' the party, but there's something bubbling under...

Round 6: High voltage!
Send me something energetic, after all this darkness.

Hey, tomorrow I'm going to library to get some music. I'm going to check out some albums from bands I've heard in the roulette so far, but there aren't some of the albums featuring the song submitted, so I need your help. This won't slow the roulette down, because I do my roulette listening at day and CD listening at night.

I found these albums:

Tool - Lateralus
OSI - Free
Verenpisara - Eilinen on kuollut
Kingston Wall - I

But which one of these is better?

Ulver - Wars of the Roses or Blood Inside
Dark Tranquillity - Fiction or We Are the Void

There are plenty of Anathema, but I think I'll pick Weather Systems, because it is an usual sight on various Top 50 album lists.

Okay, there seems to be quite many after all and I got some non-roulette stuff to check so I might save something on later  :lol.

Oh and The Dresden Dolls album (Yes, Virginia...). The guy or gal how has it now relended it  >:(. Guess I listen it from Internet then, but it's at the top on "albums to check online" with NIN's The Fragile.

I haven't listened to Fiction enough yet to say if it's better than We Are the Void, but the latter was my first Dark Tranquillity album and I liked it a lot. A lot of people seem to prefer Fiction though...

Also, the Verenpisara album is called Eilinen on kuollut ;)

A lot of people do prefer Fiction, myself included, and it has some setlist staples and major hits so that would be a fine start.
Speaking of Ulver, I have heard Wars Of The Roses, Shadows Of The Sun and Lyckantropen Themes, and Wars Of The Roses is the weakest of them, though it is still pretty enjoyable. Many Ulver fans say Blood Inside is better than WOTR, but I have been warned that it's slightly inaccessible for the first couple of turns.

Also, Free is a great place to start with OSI, and knowing your tastes, it would probably be better if you picked Judgment or Alternative 4 as your first Anathema album.

knowing your tastes, it would probably be better if you picked Judgment or Alternative 4 as your first Anathema album.

Well, there are neither of them. Currently there are Weather Systems, Hindsight and A Fine Day to Exit.

Weather Systems is the best starting point out of those 3, but if you end up liking Anathema so much that you want to buy some albums, then you should listen to Milena's advice - Alt 4 and Judgement are their peak IMO, and it's very much possible that you'd enjoy them too.

I agree with both ? and Milena. Weather Systems>We're Here Because We're Here>Alt 4>Judgement>A Fine Day To Exit is that way that I took so far. A Natural Disaster is the next step for me.

The drummer of The Deadstation is also their vocalist, you bet he's in good physical condition

And does he both vocals and drums when playing live? If so, that really is impressing. At the first gigis of my band, I played drums and sang when we played Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets, but both are really easy songs on drums.

I'm truly honoured Ruba.....

There are three rounds left, you have still a plenty of time to screw everything up  ;)  :xbones.

So far I've only gotten 4 out of 8 subs, but there's still some time until deadline.

They haven't played live yet, and I think they would look for another drummer to play the parts live should that day come (I faintly remember discussing that with either Shjon or Ryan), since I think it's physically impossible to do those demanding vocal parts alongside drums.

Also my song is coming shortlyyyyy, as in a few hours give or take :lol

RESULTS ROUND 6

? - Paradise Lost - Hallowed Land
Quite heavy and catchy track with good vocals. In some parts it sounded a bit Awake-esque to me. Great guitar solo.
9,3

Scorpion - Wintersun - Winter Madness
A familiar song, a 15-year old me was impressed about how fast one can play drums. Now the insane speed feels almost comical. Vocals are alright, nothing to complain about them. The best part of the song is the guitar solo, which Alexi Laiho could only dream of. It almost gives me goosebumps.
8,5

Nekov - Ayreon - Through the Wormhole
Well this one's quite different, it's even a bit jazzy. I don't really like the keyboards, they're ultra-cheesy and a bit out of place. I'm not a big fan of the chorus either. But there were a plenty of good melodies and as with Wintersun, an awesome solo section is worthy of some extra points.
7,9

obscure - Fair to Midland - Kyla Cries Cologne
The shortest song of the round. Some heavy guitar riffing, but the song isn't really heavy (energetic anyway). Vocalist has quite unique voice, I like him. However, the pre-chorus didn't really sound good to me, and it reminicents Get a Life by Queensrÿche a lot. Luckily it's rather short and it is followed by a very good chorus. Nice bridge.
8,7

MoraWintersoul - Leprous - Bilateral
Should I move to Norway, they seem to have much better rock/metal bands than we do  :lol. This song has the best chorus of the round, and it is pretty catchy overall. I like the vocalist, and there's an awesome bridgey-thing at 3:03.
9,2

Lolzeez - Opeth - Bleak
The longest song of the round (Nem sends always the shortest ones and Lolz longest  :lol... no need to change unless you want to). I own Blackwater Park and this was one of the few songs I liked instantly. This is more athmospherical than heavy song, and there are lots of acoustic guitar, which is a plus. I don't really like the growls, but don't hate them either. Great chorus with clean vocals by Steven Wilson. The acoustic middle section is beautiful, and the clean guitar solo is lovely. Are the clean vocals there Mikael's?
9,2

WindMaster - Coheed & Cambria - Key Entity Extraction III: Vic the Butcher
I love some modern alternative rock, and this made no difference. Quite catchy. I like the vocalist (how many times I've said that already :lol). Nice guitar solo.
8,9

lonestar - Martin Orford - Power and Speed
Well this song lives up to its name  :lol. A prog rock instrumental with some more keyboard- and some guitar-based sections. A rather uplifting piece, where cool melodies are followed by another cool melodies. I especially loved the guitar lead at 0:54.
9,4

And this time lonestar took the cake, let's take a peek at the standings.

Standings:
obscure 54,8
lonestar 54,4
? 54,3
WindMaster 54
MoraWintersoul 53,9
Nekov 52,9
Lolzeez 52,4
Scorpion 51,9

Lolzeez - Opeth - Bleak
The acoustic middle section is beautiful, and the clean guitar solo is lovely. Are the clean vocals there Mikael's?
The vocals in the chorus go like this:

SW: "Devious movements in your eyes"
MÅ: "Moved me from relief"
etc., the rest of the song (including the "You're close to the final word" part) is 100% Mikael. However, the clean guitar solo is played by Steven.

ROUND 7 RESULTS

obscure - Korn (ft. Skrillex and Kill the Noise) - Narcissistic Cannibal
I've heard some Korn before, and I haven't liked it. And I think I have heard this song on radio earlier, and I didn't really like it. But it was probably back when I didn't like electronic music. Main riff is very powerful and it's probably my favourite part in the song. I find the song to be a bit of a safe bet, however, this could have been more abrasive. It's good but not really groundbreaking.
8,4

MoraWintersoul - VVVVVV Soundtrack - Pushing Onwards
Actually this emoticon would be enough of write-up: . Is this 8-bit? Good melodies. This reminds bit of music used in online racing game called Need for Madness. Simple, but great.
9,3

? - Chroma Key - Get Back in the Car
Slow and athmospherical song, great percussion. Some interesting samples. Catchy chorus.
9

Nekov - David Bowie - Dead Man Walking
Based on rather fast and powerful beat, I think this is even more energetic than the Ayreon one you send me last round. Instrumentation is quite interesting, I'm pretty sure this will can endure many listens. Nice piano work.
9,2

lonestar - Nebulist - Obscure
You have a collection of songs with the word "obscure" in the title, don't you?  :lol A dark piece, very bass-heavy. Interesting rhythms (everything is now interesting  :P :lol). Keyboards bring some calmness over the chaotic beats. I haven't heard anything quite like this before, and I must say I like this.
9,2

Lolzeez - Daft Punk (ft. Giorgio Moroder) - Giorgio By Moroder
Before hearing this song I didn't know who Giorgio Moroder was. Now I know. The song has vintage-feel in it. For most of the time there's one bass line, everything else is build on it. The synth melody beginning at 1:50 is damn catchy. The parts with acoustic drums are cool aswell. The video you originally sent missed the cool outro, but I found it from another video, and it's worth of extra 0,1 points.
8,9

Scorpion - Diablo Swing Orchestra - Justice for Saint Mary
OK, you originally sent a song from an artist, which was already used (Portishead). So I should give you -2 points, but you were fast and resended before I even had seen your first sub. And minus points would definately mean a last place for you. Aaw, what the heck. I don't even think my scoring system works that well. I was too strict in the first round, that Agalloch song would have been probably gotten higher score on some other round.

OK, I quit ranting to myself.

At first I thought you had send wrong song or something, because the electronic elements kick in not earlier than after seven and half minutes.  :lol Before it this is mainly acoustic, acoustic guitar and symphonic instruments. Melody-wise probably the best song on the round. Strings give some real depth to the sound. This is like newer Nightwish as an acoustic version (and male singer), but better. The build-up from 5:50 on... yum. Then it becomes heavy metal and turns into glitchy electronica. Weird.
9,5

WindMaster - The Dear Hunter - Never Forgive Never Forget
And I was waiting for some electro-post dubprog... But this isn't bad either, electronica-laden alt-rock. I somewhat like it, but I don't know... this one just doesn't really strike me.
7,8

Standings:
lonestar 63,6
? 63,3
obscure 63,2
MoraWintersoul 63,2
Nekov 62,1
WindMaster 61,8
Scorpion 61,4
Lolzeez 61,3

And we have a new leader! Hmmm... probably the winner will be RJ, Ville, Nem or Milena, because my scoring system rarely makes big margins possible... sorry guys . But there's still one round left, do your best!

ROUND 8 - We have assumed control
Time for a big finish! Send me a grande finale-song. Like when I asked you to send an opening track in the round one. But it doesn't have to be a album closer, just something you find as a good final for the roulette.

I'll be dead honest, I had never heard of Nebulist or that song before I sent it. Just went on a madcap search for electronic music, really liked that piece, and the name of the song didn't hurt either. Can always use a little positive mojo.

RESULTS ROUND 8... FINALLY

? - Thunderstone - Great Man Down
I don't like power metal very much, but this was better than average song in the genre. I don't like the main riff, but verses are much better and the soaring chorus is very good. The vocalist has a nice voice.
8,1

lonestar - Absolute Priority - Dead Man Walkin'
Almost same track title than with the Bowie song last round. Lovely acoustic guitar solo in the intro. The vocalist sounds exactly like young Geoff Tate, which is not a bad thing. Very dramatic piece. Great heavier instrumental section (cool rhythm) with a stunning guitar solo! Climax could've been bigger, but works well still and the outro is beautiful.
9,5

WindMaster - Alcest - Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles
Second time in this roulette when I got something sung in French. Pretty mesmerizing one. Lots of reverb or some other effect like that, which creates sort of hazy feeling. Lots of beautiful melodies and even though there are some growls and fast drum beats, it isn't really heavy.
9,5

Nekov - Devin Townsend Project - Awake!
Catchy and heavy track. Devin has a very good clean voice, I'm a bit torn at the growly stuff. I love the chorus with female vocals. However, I probably would have liked this more if it was around five minutes long. The latter half of the song is good, but not as good as the first.
8,8

MoraWintersoul - Sieges Even - Sequence VIII: Styx
Lots of clean guitar, I like. Sounds a bit Rush-esque. Great snare drum sound! Great riff at about 2:20. I love the more energetic middle section, and the outro is magnificent.
9,6

Lolzeez - The Mars Volta - Day of the Baphomets
Bass solo... Bass solo. BASS SOLO! Well this is awesome! Sounds like Latin-American King Crimson. Wicked playing! Nice guitar-sax trade-off soloing at 5:00. I'm afraid I can't give anything else than full points. Hey, and why would it be impossible for them to reunite, you might be able to see this live if it happens.
10

obscure - Aeon Zen - Warning
I love me some athmospherical music and the intro is really beautiful. The turn into heavy metal is not a bad thing either. Catchy verses, and a pretty good chorus. Proggy bridge, but within the limits of the good taste. Awesome keyboard solo. And the end is quite surprising, I didn't saw it coming the first time I listened to it. But it's a nice to end the song at it's most energetic point, for a change.
9,1

Scorpion - Devin Townsend - Bad Devil
Jazzy heavy metal... niiiice. Great pre-chorus  :hat! And the first time I listened to this, I found the chorus extremely familiar. It's almost similar to another, though more typical jazz song (Elina Orkoneva - He's Not My Man). Maybe it's some kind of basic jazz pattern. Nevertheless awesome. The album cover is very disturbing  ???.
9,3

Phuuh. Let's look at the final standings.

lonestar 73,1 (yellow is kinda invisible, it says "lonestar 73,1")
MoraWintersoul 72,8
obscure 72,3
? 71,4
WindMaster 71,3
Lolzeez 71,3
Nekov 70,9
Scorpion 70,3

All hail to RJ! And thanks to everyone else participated, I had great time and found lots of great music. Hope you enjoyed too!

To be honest, I haven't listened much earlier submissions, but I could really revisit that Agalloch one, the main reason for the relatively low score was its intro, which I found to be lengthy and a bit out-of-place. Other than it, I found it enjoyable.

Fourth position isn't too bad for a first-timer, this was a really nice experience! :tup Congrats to RJ! :)

Moar library hunting! I'm going to library next Monday or Tuesday and here is what I've found:

Alcest - Ecailles de Lune
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction, Ghost, Infinity, Accelerated Evolution, Synchestra, Ziltoid: The Omniscient, Terria
The Mars Volta - surprisingly enough, all of their studio albums
Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol, In Requeim, Gothic, Believe in Nothing
Coheed & Cambria - Year of the Black Rainbow, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, both Good Apollo...-albums

I already got Earthling by David Bowie, but haven't listened to it yet. I actually was going to check him out, Nekov just pushed me forward .

Anyway, which of these I should get? I have some other albums in mind too, so I'll probably lend 5-6 of these first.

Well, Ecailles de Lune, pretty much every Devin album and De-Loused by TMV would be my picks, but if it's only one, definitely get Terria. It's Top 5 of all time for me, amazing, amazing album from start to finish.
