Looking very forward to this, there's not a single Bodom I album I don't love!
-
Wasn't a fan of the last two Bodom albums, but will still definitely get this. The cover is incredible and the song titles sound promising. I'm getting a Hate Crew sort of old school feel to it, so I have high expectations.
-
Looks good. :omg: Can't wait for this! :corn
-
I miss listening to CoB all the time since Are You Dead Yet really turned me off so I may blindly buy this just to show 'em some love since I adore HB, FtR, and HDR. Something Wild is also pretty damn good and may pass up any of the aforementioned three albums once I become more familiar with it.
-
The last 2 were steaming turds, I hope this one is better.
-
The statements released, the producer and artwork choice hint at the fact they might be trying to win over their old fanbase here. Let's see.
-
In the Imperiumi listening session report it was said that the new album is extremely aggressive, but also a little bit more melodic than the last few. The most important tidbit of information, however, is that at least one song includes a trademark "jau jau!" scream by Laiho :neverusethis:
RRF had a couple of good songs, but I guess I've moved on from this kind of music, as I haven't even listened to the classic stuff in a long time. Maybe I should put some Follow the Reaper songs on for the sake of nostalgia... :D
-
I'm spinning AYDY for the first time in probably a couple of years. It's as good as I remember, terrific album.
-
I've recently acquired all the CoB albums, but they haven't fully registered with me yet, only 1 or 2 spins each, so I don't really have a preference on what direction they are going or have been in the past. Regardless, still looking forward to picking this up
-
Bodom lost me when they decided to lose the neoclassical keyboards. What made the band huge was that they were powermetal with black metal vocals.
IMO

That's definitely what made them stand out of the crowd. Their sound on the first three albums is incredible.

Personally I wouldn't go that far, but Hatebreeder and FTR were definitely their most enjoyable and distinctive albums. Something Wild was also pretty good, and HCD, while straying away from that atmospheric metal that made the earlier albums interesting, was still decent. The last couple of albums just haven't been at all interesting to me.

Yup, that wasn't too bad.

Not sure if I can post the link here, but a radio rip of the title track is up on YT. Sounds quite different from the last few albums!
-
:metal That was awesome

Just listened to it, and I fucking liked what I heard. Very Something Wild and Hatebreeder. If this continues for the whole album, COB have really redeemed themselves.

"the best damn thing Children Of Bodom have released since Hate Crew Deathroll in 2003"

Yeah, I really hope so.

"Transference" is out on Itunes.

For me, Bodom has only gotten more mediocre over time. But I mean, they will never hit the all time low they hit with Are You Dead Yet? and most of Blooddrunk. I've only listened to RRF once or twice, so I can't really say much about that album. Bodom are more like a commercial thrash band with wanky keyboards now.
I miss their old song writing, because at the time of Hatebreeder they were at the top of their game with the neoclassical scales n' junk. Songs like their namesake, Children of Bodom, had some of the most well written solos and guitar work. I miss that. Now it feels like an aggression game. Oh well.
I'm cautiously looking forward to this new album. The first new song I heard was good, but nothing earth shattering. Gonna pick up the new album regardless.
EDIT: Just read that review adace provided us. I'm slightly more excited now.

This is actually pretty solid. Reminds me so much of Follow the Reaper. Either Bodom Afer Midnight or Children of Decadence.

For the first time since 1997 when I first heard Something Wild, I'm finding it very hard to be interested at all in a new Bodom album.
They are no longer an automatic blind buy order Japanese version for me.
Something is missing from them that they used to have, but do not seem to have anymore.
I do hope that I am wrong, but in the meantime, if you miss the older CoB style, of death/black thrash, with shredding solo great guitar/keys interplay, massive hooks and melodies....
You really need to check out KALMAH :metal
-
^Agreed on Kalmah. Their first few albums are awesome. Can't wait for their new one!
Also, "Bodom Blue Moon" is streaming in full around the 10 minute mark.

Bodom Blue Moon is pretty good. Sounds like they have really returned to their old sound, but I think they have done it so drastically that they have just taken templates from songs mainly from FTR and made them into new songs. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I get. I like what I'm hearing though.
-
I love the new song, and I have to disagree with you guys. Not only have I massively enjoyed all of CoB's output, but I also don't think this is them taking old song templates and working them into new songs. While the songs have a feel that harken back to the Hatebreeder/Follow The Reaper days, they're also laced with what they've been venturing through these past few albums and I think it's a killer mix of sounds and influences.

Shouldn't this go into a topic for Kalmah.. :mehlin
Not that I'm dissing them or anything, I really liked their last album, but yeah..
-
Well there's a ton of people saying they've heard the whole thing over at the official forum, but I can't find any links. :'(

Yeah I know I couldn't find a Kalmah thread, nor can I be bothered to start one.
Besides I'm pimping them here, so that you poor deluded Bodom fans, can check them out :metal
NB stuff does not leak, all their promo stuff is watermarked and they can name and sue those responsible.
-
...And it's finally floating around.
-
Fucking (damn it, only 192kb) finally.
-
First listen was alright. There's a mix of some pretty cool stuff (Transference is my current favourite still, followed by All Twisted and Halo of Blood), some alright stuff that works and then there's Dead Man's Hand On You which is just so boring and unnecessary.
All in all, it's better than expected but still just pretty okay. I don't think Bodom is capable of writing an album that could get me to scream from rooftops that "BODOM IS BACK BABY". Not with their current fanbase.
-

As I was saying...

After my first listen, I'm pretty much on the same page as you although I actually like Dead Man's Hand On You. Otherwise, I like HoB better than the last two albums but I was still kinda disappointed. That said, this album does have a lot of potential as a grower.
-
I think once a better version (or when the album actually drops) surfaces, I'll give the album a proper listen via my headphones instead of my shit speakers.
-
I'm picking up the CD tomorrow from a local store, so I thought I had better get some 'samples' :yarr
Actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be, certainly getting back towards the classic Bodom sound from the first four albums.
BUT, I just don't get the same feeling from listen to Bodom, that I once did.
Perhaps it's because I am older, but I do love the guitar/keys shredding, with catchy riffs and melodies.
Or maybe it just that Kalmah do it so much better these days ;)

After turning my bedroom upside down to find my plug for my stereo so I could hear this album (as well as 5 other recently-acquired CDs) in its full glory rather than on aluminumcore computer speakers, I'm now giving this its first spin. Currently on track 2's first minute as I type this. Hope it's as good as some have been saying.
-
Not thrilled but it wasn't bad. Does anyone else feel like the keyboards were badly under-utilized? The album just felt like they wanted to cut loose and make some adventurous shit but it just barely ever seemed to hit that stride that they so naturally and effortlessly hit on their first 4 albums. I'll still give it a bunch of spins and hope for the best but man do I miss the keyboards getting nearly equal time with the guitars during solo spots.
-
NB stuff does not leak, all their promo stuff is watermarked and they can name and sue those responsible.
Coulda fooled me. :lol
Just saying.
-
Yup me too :yarr
The leak was from the Japanese release, which was earlier than the RoW.
Nobody would leak the watermarked promo files, legal action would be threatened, and I am speaking from experience here ;D
-
Who said I was talking about the CoB album? :yarr
I do imagine a lot of leaks of labels that do watermark their promos come from the overseas markets, though. Or from people who just don't give a fuck despite the consequences.
-
Okay, got this in the mail today and have listened to it once.
Overall, I agree with most of you, it's decent but nothing mindblowing, but yes, it definitely would be a grower, needs a lot more listens.
A lot of it seems a blur on the first listen, but Transference is definitely a highlight.
-
Bumping this thread for some CoB discussion.
Alexi's live rig, pretty surprising how basic it is.
