Da rulez:
First to guess correctly gets is the winner.
The winner gets a point and we tally it up.
The winner has to post the next screenshot.
No reverse google imaging.
No looking at the image URL to reveal the answer.
If no one gets it after a while, then you can reveal the game and post a different pic.
Here's an easy one to start it off:

-
FUCK YEAH METROID PRIME
-
CORRECT. NOW U GO
Buddyhunter1 - 1
-
That was quick. I'd like to say that I knew immediately as well just so I can jack my ego off. Let's do it. GO GO GO NERDS.
-
I absolutely love Metroid Prime. It's probably my favorite game of all time, actually.
Anyways, here's another easy one from another amazing game...
-
Uh...Animal Crossing?
idk
-
That's Okami.
Amaterasu being in the screen shot made it easy.
-
That's Okami.
Yes, yes it is.
-
POST A PIC, DIMI
:)
-
Looks like a place of peace.
...except when it is a place of BEING ON FIRE!
:duncan:
-
The Phendrana Drifts might be my all-time favorite video game locale. So beautiful.
Carry on.
-
okay, since Dimi is not posting, his turn has been HIJACKED.

-
Damn it! Oh well... Um... Time Crisis?
ED: WAIT WAIT WINBACK2 OH SHIT.
-
No. This is a somewhat obscure N64 game which got a re-release on the PS2.
EDIT: it's actually the first one
-
Damn it. Well, I'll take my turn to put things back in order. I was never gonna get if it was 1 or 2, my friend who is sitting next to me though blurted it out, so I had some help. :P
Here ya go:
-
Looks like a Zelda ripoff. I dunno.
-
It's a wonderful little spinoff gem (not of the Zelda series) for Gameboy, I'll give it a bit more unless you command me to release it's infinite secrets, oh masterful thread creator.
-
Final Fantasy Adventure for the original Gameboy?
-
DING-DING-DING! Goodness for you my friend! WINNAR.
-
I used to love that game as a kid,
Ok, up next:

Streets of rage 2?
-
close, but that would have made it too obvious.
-
Streets of Rage... 3?
-
Streets of Rage 2: Electric Boogaloo
-
Streets of Rage... 3?
There we go. Correct.

It's the fantastic NES version of Ninja Turtles, I remember that, it's fucking awesome.

I'll wait for someone to post Pac Man or Pong or Adventure or something....

Rocket Knight
-
Fuck that water level! Fuck it all the way to hell!
I never got past that stage and it always pissed me off.
-
I'll wait for someone to post Pac Man or Pong or Adventure or something....
\o
Pong is still the greatest head-to-head video game. So simple, just a head's up test of reflex and concentration.
I'lll put up a 2600 game if I ever get a spot.
-
Rocket Knight
Can you elaborate?
-
It's Rocket Knight Adventures, but you should have taken Rocket Knight out of the image file's name.
-
against the rules.
bant.
-
The answer was already posted when I looked. I didn't know a subtitle was missing.
-
sorry son, but you are bant. bant as every bant person that was ever bant
-
Son, my ass.
-
u mad?
Jk man, go ahead and have your turn. :)

Cult classic RPG that everyone should check out sometime.

It's Rocket Knight Adventures, but you should have taken Rocket Knight out of the image file's name.
I didn't know you could alter the file name. *confused*
I knew Jarlaxie cheated from that, but not sure you could change the name.
-
Gotta be Earthbound/Mother, but I have no idea which one.
-
Aren't they the same?
-
Earthbound 3
-
Aren't they the same?
I meant if the first or a sequel. But I believe not all Mother games came to the States.

Correct.

Earthbound is my favourite SNES game. Very humourous and fun. And Giygas is a phenomenal boss. Really creepy and dark compared to the rest of the game.

Prince of Persia. Not sure which one.

Correct. It is the Genesis release.

Yeah, I love that game. Have you played the Japan-only sequel, Mother 3? It's even better, imo.
-
Correct. It is the Genesis release.
I thought so, Mega Dive was the shit.
This one might be a bit tricky;

I have it on an emulator, but I haven't complete it yet although I am quite a ways in. I have to revisit it soon. I know many call it one of the most depressing games ever made.

COMIX ZONE!!!
I played that game a lot on PC! Don't remember ever beating it, though.

Posting in this thread because it looks like fun and I'll give the next one a guess.

Nice thread...I recognize most of these. But I won't be participating because I don't want to have to post the next pic. :P

Even if people change the URL by hosting the image elsewhere or using a different image, Google's Image Search would still easily find the answer, so it doesn't matter. We're operating entirely on the honour system here.

A tip: a great GameCube JRPG released around... 2003, I think it was.

Defender of the Crown, although that isn't what I was going to post until I quoted the image. I saw the screen shot and I remembered playing that game but I can no way remember what the title was.

Loderunner.
-
My dad and I love this series. I wrote the levels and we timed how long it took him to beat it (he was good, too). I had levels that took him hours to figure out on some versions, I got really good at making them intricate puzzles on top of action.
-
Yay! So I'm right.
When I was young I had digestion issues, so I had to take this medicine mineral water kind of stuff. Loderunner was my potty game while I waited for the medicine to kick in.

Some absurdly bizarre Breakout/Tetris crossover?
No, it's a game that has made top 100 games of all time lists even in this century. Fantastic 4-player game, I was on tv playing it with some friends, once, because a reporter on an unrelated story was so excited to see it.
Warlords?

where did everybody go? :lol
-
You might need to drop some hints.
-
I know that game, I just can't think of the name. I used to have this disc for Dreamcast (old school) back in the day that had every NES game ever on it, including international/Japanese ones and that one was definitely on there and I definitely played it. It's basically Adventures of Link but with some sort of Greek mythology/Olympus theme, I just can't think of the name and don't want to cheat by going to Google :-\
-
Holy shit, I used to play that game all the time as a kid!
-
I just can't think of the name and don't want to cheat by going to Google :-\
Google isn't cheating in the rules, just using Google's advanced search tool where you search with an image and it finds websites with similar ones.
-
Oh, ok then it's The Battle of Olympus. Somebody else can have my turn. If somebody wants to post a screenshot of Soul Blazer though that would be cool, cuz I love that game. Soul Blazer.
-

Yeah if you recognise the game but just can't remember what it's called, I think it's fair enough to search with a few descriptors. Just don't image search the pic!
-

That must be a Monster Hunter, I wouldn't be able to guess it though.

Probably the Wii's Monster Hunter if you're right. Looks like a good guess, to me.

That looks so familiar.
-
Myst?
-
No, but you are oh so VERY close!
-
Morrowind?
-
Morrowind?
YES! :D
Okay, actually, no. I've never even heard of that game. :dunno: Keep guessing.
-
It looks too old to be Morrowind actually, but since you said it was close to Myst, I had to give it a go.
-
It was definitely created with Myst in mind, and the advertisements even came right out and said so.
-
Riven: The sequel to Myst?
-
GREAT guess! :D
But no.
-
Hint: List Myst, there is a log "cabin" on an island. The island (and the "cabin") is modeled after a place in the San Juan Islands.
That's enough to find the answer on Google, but you will still probably need a pretty discerning eye to pick up on the clues Google will give you.
-
My extended back yard. Too bad the islands are replete with cabins.
-
Chris, you KNOW the answer to this one. I know you do.
-
Couldn't tell what it was, so I googled the image. Pretty good. :lol
-
How? I changed the file name.
-
google.com/images, to the left of the blue search button there is a camera, click on it and enter the file url and it will do a reverse image search
-
Wow, that renders this whole thread pretty useless :lol
-
Wow #1: Never knew you could do that.
Wow #2: Never knew that was a game. Bosk, I am pretty late to the party regarding the subject, despite my area of residence.
-
Wow, that renders this whole thread pretty useless :lol
That's why the OP stated that people should not do this, as it would pointless.

Well, fortunately we're all honest people here

google.com/images, to the left of the blue search button there is a camera, click on it and enter the file url and it will do a reverse image search
:omg: Whoa! I never knew that.
Not sure what the time limit is supposed to be on this, but should I drop some more hints to keep it moving, or just let it lie until someone gets it?
-
I'm gonna feel so stupid if this isn't it...because I keep going back to Myst/Riven and the only game that looks that Myst-like and isn't...and with that friggin' log cabin is..
Promised Land?
-
YES!
Did you really know it, or did you have to cheat? #notjudgingu
-
I'm far too lazy to do all that Google stuff, which I just found out on this page. I knew it because my dad is a huge Queensryche fan and got me this game whenever he saw me playing Myst one day.
Here we go:

Wow, that renders this whole thread pretty useless :lol
That's why the OP stated that people should not do this, as it would pointless.
I see, missed that.
-
That reminds me of Final Fantasy. Not sure which one it would be though.
-
More similar to... the Shining Force games than FF. I'll give another hint if no one gets it. Okay one more...cause it was never released outside Japan. However, it is the sequel to a game that was released in the US, and it look almost identical in style to said game so...anyone that played said game, should know this one...maybe...I dunno. I suck at picking games for people to choose cause I try to hard to pick obscure games. :sadpanda:
-
Looks a lot like Golden Sun.
-
Any chance it's Seiken Denetsu 3?
-
None of the above. It's late and I forgot to post it anyway, but it's called Royal Stone, a sweet little Game Gear game that is the sequel to another wonderful RPG called Crystal Warriors (wonder what that was inspired by? :P). Um, I guess...since I trumped y'all foolios, I'll let...
Ulti, go! Time for me to pass the fuck out.
-
I'll post the next one because nobody else is going...

Fucking Descent. Oh the nostalgia. If Im right, I need to get home before I can offer up a screenshot.
Fuck yeah! :metal

Alright, I went for years believing this to be a pretty obscure title. Let's see if it bears out:

Space Station Silicon Valley?

Bingo. Love that shit.

-
No idea but it looks like something I've played.
-
Looks like Lemmings
-
Yeah definitely looks like a more modern lemmings.
-
Hmm, clearly that title is more obscure than I thought. The gameplay is similar to Lemmings, though. This is probably giving away too much, but here's a hint: Jaleco
-
Stumped already? Where's Crowley at? He'll get this one for sure. :lol
Since it's pointed at me, I'll say Ed Hunter! :lol
But I seriously don't know the first thing about video games!
-
King Arthur's World
-
Pretty sure I'm right and Tanatra isn't online, so I'll just keep it moving.
-
You were correct. ;) Carry on.
-
I don't suspect anyone else here has played this particular port, but I do think quite a few here have played the game.
edit: I made sure to post an image that had clues.
-
It's a beat 'em up game. The picture gives away it's age, the outfit colours of the heroes, and the background scene might have something recognizable.
-
This game originated in the arcade and was ported to nearly every imaginable system in the late 80's and early 90's. Seriously, the Lynx, 2600, 7800, GB, NES, Master System, and Game Gear all had ports of it! The two lead characters were featured on the NES's pack-in game, Super Spike V'Ball. There were an additional two sequels on the NES and the series was recently revived as a downloadable game for the PS3 and 360.
I guess what I'm saying is, this is nowhere near an obscure title. :lol It's just an obscure port.
-
Double Dragon I guess?
-
Double Dragon I guess?
Was just about to say that.
-
Double Dragon I guess?
Was just about to say that.
If it's correct, and I believe it is, I pass my turn to you good sir.
-
Yup! You know something's popular when it get's ported backwards a generation. Tough as nails game, beating it actually caused me and my friend (who were on a long mission to do so) to literally jump up and start screaming and partying. :lol
-
Yeah the screenshot is total Double Dragon, and I remember that boss fight where the big dude comes out of the wall, but I guess it never occurred to me that a game would/could be ported backwards!
-
I totally see it now!
-
Not sure how well known this is. I think it'll be guessed pretty shortly though.
-
This isn't a guess, but it screams Ultima to me. It's definitely not an old school Elder Scrolls.
-
At first I thought it was the awesome Wolfstein, but it's not.
It looks so familiar, I have played it, but have no clue what the name is.

Shining in the Darkness

Valkyrie Profile! Absolutely one of my favorite RPGs of the PS era.
Me, too. I do like the cg in the PSP version better than the art on the PS1, though. Silmeria was my favourite PS2 game and Covenant of the Plume is one of my favourites on the DS, as well. Love the series. I was really disappointed those rumors of a PS3 VP a few years back never came to anything.

SNES Wars or whatever the precursor to Advance Wars was?
-
A heavily militarized city with a pink monster in the sea? Some sort of Godzilla knockoff? :lol
-
@Yoro: Indeed, the series is amazing, I wish I had a PSP so I could play the remake; and I really love Silmeria. Sadly I only played a few hours of the DS version, I really need to play it through. Oh, I know your pain braj, a PS3(or 4 at this point) sequel would be just...too much awesome. :sadpanda:
Not quite, XJ.
Hint time:
It is indeed a turn-based strategy game not unlike the Advance Wars/Fire Emblem style, but without the RPG overtones. Also, the top right-hand corner will be a huge giveaway if you can make out the red figure.
ED:
Bingo! I won't be that picky just to keep this thing rolling. Close enough, it is indeed Godzilla 2: War of the Monsters for the NES. Horrible game. :rollin I loved it as a kid though. Picked it back up in high school and couldn't play more than ten minutes of it. Bwaha.
-
I won? Huh, :lol I've never even heard of the game, but I sure hope that isn't a pink Godzilla.
-
Definitely is. I just didn't see anyone else getting it anytime soon. This one is way too easy so I'm gonna go ahead and back off this one...unless it goes on for too long, that is. Plus I'm bout to run out the door. Awesome game though, too bad it didn't sell well enough to warrant a continuation... As it usually is with my favorite series of any friggin' medium.
-
Not so fast, there's a confirmed sequel/reboot that's been in off and on development for some years, now. They decided to aim at this upcoming gen for some reason.. Publisher insists it is coming, they want to do it but want to make sure the next one sells.
-
Oh no shit, I totally forgot about that... I had figured it fell into development hell and was canceled. Wow. Completely forgot. I even have an old magazine with that opening with you-know-who and 'the fly'. Jeez...poor series.
-
It's Beyond Good and Evil.
-
Beyond Good and Evil! I love this game.
EDIT: Damn you, UMH! You sneaky bastard.
-
Shining in the Darkness
Yeah you were right, but I guess you knew that already. :lol
-
Yeah, I know I'm right, so let's get with a tougher one. If anyone knows this shit I will honestly be shocked.
-
Holy shit. No idea but when I find out what it is, I'm so on playing that.
-
Small hint: If you couldn't tell based on the graphics, it's a PS1 game.
-
OMG I REMEMBER!!!! MORT THE CHICKEN! YES! That was one of the first games that I've ever beaten. I think.
-

Correct. It's a very easy game, and anyone with a PS1 emulator should play it just because it's so batshit weird.

No guesses?

Yep, fuckin' awesome game too. Your turn.

Man I miss my N64.
Ok here's mine. One of my very favorites:

This is what the original handheld gen could have had as a baseline in performance. Some company's just can't do things right even when they have a superior product. I do suspect a little Google search might be needed.
-
To move things along since people probably don't know the game unless they owned the system. It's a prominent Atari Lynx game, the image should make it an easy Google find.
-
Evidently it's called WarBirds. Good thing we're not dishing out easy games anymore, but that shit was just cruel. :lol I'll wait for confirmation in case I'm wrong and there was more than one Atari Lynx flight sim.

It was Warbirds, one of the highlight games on the system. Check some video's on it and think about the fact that it was going against the GB from the start. (https://youtu.be/4FQnKxJtK78) The Lynx and Jaguar are interesting stories on how Atari fucked things up for themselves, both were great systems for their gens. I really regret selling my collections for both of them.
-
Space Station was one* of my absolute favorite adventure games as a kid. Around my group of friends it was pretty well known but yeah, it seems like it's pretty niche when it comes to the general masses of the 64 generation. So much fun, even today. The mechanics are pretty bad, but any 3D game back then is a bit wonky. Great stuff though.
Ed: one was? fuckin dyslexic, what the shit...
-
Here we go. I'll give this one a few hours before dropping a hint.

Cool to know other people know about this awesome game. Interesting to know too that others also consider it pretty obscure.
I consider it that because I know of no one who played or even talked about that game.
Also, I know the one UMH posted but since he wants to give it hour to hint, I'll let him have his fun. :P
-
Yeah, the only reason I knew of it was a friend of mine who had it when we were younger. Never knew anyone else to play it.
-

I think he means he's expecting it to be taken quickly, so won't need hints. :dunno:
-
Well, if it was that, Rayman Rush.
-
Damn. I thought that was a bit more obscure. Sure, it's a famous series, but most people are shocked to learn it exists, since it's basically half of Rayman Arena shoehorned into a Playstation 1 game while the PS2 had been out for a few years already. But indeed, it is Rayman Rush. I remember buying it because I enjoyed Rayman, but the game itself was pretty lame, and awfully slow for a racing game. It kind of reminds me of an even sloppier Sonic R.
-
I'm pretty sure more than one person will know this one, but just want people to remember a great game from a company who's fallen so hard from grace.

Don't know it. Looks like something by Rare/Rareware though.

That's the amazing River Raid, from Atari.
-
River Raid was already posted a few pages back, too. :lol I put it up and bosk1 got it.
-
River Raid was excellent. Activision seemed to have a knack for making the better Atari games.
-
Yeah, they did, Activision has some of the most polished looking games on the system. Atari had a terrible system pumping out games, lots of crap for cashing in rather than taking their time. Most of the best games were third party on the 2600. Even popular ones like Combat had far superior products (Armor Ambush kicks it's ass).
-
River Raid was already posted a few pages back, too. :lol I put it up and bosk1 got it.
Ah sorry, seems I overlooked that.

No sorry, it's just funny we've had two games repeated already and one is River Raid. I am pleased. :lol

I know it's RC something.

I played a black and white version of that! You race around and you can pick up missile and bombs and stuff. And there's little tar spots that will cause you to spin out of control.

Nope. This one's for the Sega Genesis.

A 16 bit shmup, do I win?
The Turbografx 16 isn't really 16 bit. No.

The GPU was, which fits the name of the system. It was bridge system between 8 bit and 16 bit generations, but it was definitely more powerful than the 8-bit generation.

Nobody got it. It was Blazing Lazers.

I shrunk the size of the text, because I'm not sure if having to do some research in order to get the answer counts as getting it legitimately. Let me know if it's alright and I'll bring it back up to size.
Re-sized: I had to do some research to figure this one out, because it looked a lot like a 2D model of Croc, an obscure PS1 character who had 2 games of debatable quality (I personally liked the first one, but thought the second one sucked because it tried to be Zelda). Today, I learned that they made Game Boy versions of each game, and the image posted is of the first one.
-
As long as people don't use Image search, I think Google is an almost must for some games. It's not against the rules to use Google.
-
Yeah that's legit. UMH wins.
-
Alright, so I was pretty confident that nobody would know about Mort the Chicken, but I will be honestly floored if people know this game. It's one of the first games I ever played. No worries, my friend.
This is, by far, my favorite game of all time. I spent countless quarters on this game every summer with my brother. We had some good times spending all of our allowance in one day playing this. Those were some fun times.

-
Pure guess based on the characters looks and just posting a SquareEnix game myself, but is that Kingdom Hearts? Never played the game, the whole idea is repulsive to me (not saying I mind if others love it).
-
Looks like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. I could see why you'd be turned off at the idea of the Kingdom Hearts games, but they're actually surprisingly good imo.
-
Kingdom Hearts is fucking amazing. Wonderfully fun, fantastical series. That is indeed Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA. I never play any card-based games because most of the time I find them absolutely boring, but CoM made it fun with its battle system and deck style.
-
Yeah, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (obviously not the PS2 port).
I think that this round goes to Rattlehead since he was the first to guess the actual game.
You should give the series a shot Yorost. It's easily my favorite series of all time. Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of my favorite game ever. Other than the Atlantica level, which felt like it was thrown in at the last minute, it was a fantastic game that I enjoy playing over and over eight years after it's release.
-
I'm not playing new series at themoment or anytime soon. No time right now and games are not a top priority for entertainment, but I still wouldn't give it a shot for a few reasons. For one, I find a lot of Disney annoying and have a negative desire to choose a game with a large Disney contingent, but I also have enough fill on Square Enix or other jrpg's.
-
I think others will agree when I say that the Kingdom Hearts series is far from typical Disney games for kids. They're not just another copy of the Final Fantasy games either. I wouldn't be completely put off by the premise of the game because as you get farther into the game, you discover a huge storyline that is both charming and epic.
Plus the gameplay is ridiculously fun.
-
That's all fine, I'm not interested. I already don't play all the games I want to, putting all those aside to play a game I'm superficially not interested in is not on my plate of things to do. I think I played 2-3 games last year, I will be ok never trying Kingdom Hearts.

I was in the same generation at least!
I'm going to guess Resident Evil, because my knowledge of the genre is about limited to that. :lol

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (Overclocked or original) ...the 'demo' part makes me think it's Overclocked.
Absolutely amazing series, one of my favorites out of any series there is.
I am honestly about to pass out though so I'll either go tomorrow or if someone wants to go by that time, I'll pass off my turn to whomsoever gets here first with the will of fire. If you haven't inherited the will of fire though, fuck off.

Really? Better than Symphony of the Night?
I've heard some mixed views on Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate. It has a plot "twist" you can see coming from a mile away, and there are just a lot of things about it that seem raw & unpolished, even unfinished at times. Though I've heard that the budget Mercury Steam had to work with was next to non-existent, so maybe that had something to do with it.
Anywho. . .

Yes, as are Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, and possibly PSP's Dracula X...
I love Symphony of the Night, but it gets more credit as the best for being the first of that style. They've improved on it, in my opinion, that's all. One thing Order of Ecclesia does that I like is getting close to mixing in the designs of III and Dracula X with the big castle exploration. Fitting end to the line Symphony started.

This needs to be rectified immediately. The handheld Castlevania games are among the greatest RPG side-scroller-adventures known to man. They're all so very much fun.

Yeah, you're right... it likely was. Mid-80s for sure. Ok, in order to not be the thread killer, it was Raid over Bungling Bay. Here's (I think) a more 'known' C-64 game. I can't put up anything else, because between C-64 and PS3, I didn't own any gaming systems.

There was also the king kong one, was it called Bananas or something? Where you were on top of the buildings and had to throw the banana bombs to kill your opponent.
Ah, the good old days. So old that I shouldn't even know about them but do because my parents were too cheap to ever buy a real computer so we only had a 286 running DOS and Commander Keen given to us for free in 1997....... :lol

-
Earthbound?
-
One of the Mother games.
-
Earthbound, I'm 99% sure.
-
Um, excuse me?
-
Ohh sorry yorost, I didn't see your post there, my apologies.
-
:lol
It's alright, since you have that one ready go ahead and post it.
-
Thanks
Alright here it is, one of my favorite PC games that I've been replaying on and off, sequel may be coming soon.

Fury 3.
-
Dammit, that's it, but it isn't Fury 3, it's Fury3.
-
Thats right. Perhaps an easy one, as I'm fairly certain it came free with windows 95.

I don't think it was free, at least not at first. It was just (one of) the first big titles designed for 95. ...maybe it had a OEM demo included.
-
Is that Crash Bandicoot?
-
Close, kind of.
-
Is it a version of Sonic?
-
It's a Rayman. Since I've played 2 and 3 and this looks worse in the graphics department, I'd wager that it's Rayman 1?
-
Rayman 1 was 2D, and awesome. Beat it on the Jaguar, so hard.
Rayman 2 was the first 3D one, pretty sure it's that. You might have played an updated version of it?
-
Yep, it is Rayman 2: The Great Escape.
-
I'm not claiming victory on that on. Scorpion deserves it despite the brain fart. :lol
-
Thanks yorost! Not sure how well-known this game is, but it's quite fun, actually.

I haven't played it, but is that No More Heroes?
-
Nope.
-
Something by Suda 51?
-
I haven't heard of the guy, but if Wiki is correct, then no.
-
XIII?
-
XIII?
As in Final Fantasy Versus?
Does that mean that Kingdom Hearts 3 is in development?
:neverusethis:
-
XIII?
:tup You're up, goon.

WALE TAIL!
That'd be awesome if that was the name of the game... But the game looks familiar..I dunno though. That's great though, that wale tail sighting.
