I figured this would be better instead of bombarding the general video game thread with PS4 stuff.
Today is a day many of us are anxiously awaiting! Go nuts!
Leaked PS4 controller.

From the other thread...
This video makes me super pumped for Playstation 4 announcement tomorrow.

In regards to Gran Turismo, I have been a huge fan since the third installment. I had it bundled with my PS2 from Costco. I was a little disappointed with 5 on the PS3. Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely amazing, but I would like to see less emphasis on car count. 1000+ cars in a game is cool, but I'd be much happier with 400-500 extremely well detailed cars. I didn't like how some cars had interior designs and others didn't, and some lower level cars were clearly not modeled as well as the higher performance ones. The damage was a much appreciated element, but only a handful of cars had it, and it wasn't all that impressive in the long run. I'd much prefer a lower car count with highly realistic damage. I don't want to see speed reduction penalties for bouncing off another car in a turn. I'd rather see my car get damaged in such a way that affects its performance for the rest of the race.
I think the rally is great, and I like that trucks have been added, but I didn't care too much for the addition of Nascar. I would love to see off-road racing (not dirt rally) introduced. I think baja style courses through the desert would be really awesome, as well as the ability to drive off cliffs and go over jumps.

It'll be live streamed from this site at 6pm EST: https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/
It was linked from the official Playstation FB page.

It needs Kingdom Hearts 3. That is all.
-
I almost don't care about GTA-V now... I almost wish they had just waited a bit and just focused all efforts on making it epic as fuck for next gen. I don't feel like waiting 2+ years after the new consoles come out to get a new GTA.
-
It needs Kingdom Hearts 3. That is all.
YES! I would totally buy it just for this.
-
The main Kingdom Hearts series needs to at least be on the Wii-U as well. It'd be an insult if they didn't considering all of the other Kingdom Hearts games for Nintendo.

This. I'm still having a blast with Dream Drop Distance. But yes, I will buy this ridiculous system for KH3 and FFVersusXIII.

A third party software company should keep a specific series on one company's platforms? That's a completely unreasonable expectation on them. Maybe if they move a closely knit series during a console generation I can see your attitude

i have the PS3 and all it does is occasionally stream Netflix and collect dust....bought it honestly for the blu-ray option at the time ...my kids play Xbox about 50 times more than the PS3

It was the norm back in the day, but now? Nah, they'd suffer too much. I agree with this standpoint, despite my disappointment in it not coming to Nintendo console's (I will be thrown aback if it comes to the WiiU, I'm surprised enough that a main-entry, and the newest entry chronologically, was on a Nintendo handheld) I will understand considering that the series started with Sony's PS2. But yeah there are plenty of KH games for Ninty consoles, so it'd make sense if they ported this one as well; but to my understanding, this is going to be PS4 exclusive. Definitely won't see it on the 720.
But I just want the damn game. I really don't give a shit about exclusives anymore. When I was a kid, it was nice having it out with my buddies on "who's system" had the best lineup, but these days it doesn't matter. If I want something, I'll buy it and the system for it without a thought that it's hurting my precious Nintendo. They'll all succeed in their own way and it really doesn't matter who comes out on top as long as the games are fun, the systems are innovative, and the cash keeps flowing.
Now all that said, Ninty fo lyfe! :P But srsly, I'm excited for this. I mainly stayed out of this generation of gaming aside from a few gems. I think the whole 'console war' thing spurred on by gamers was a huge mistake. It created this hostile, crazy environment for developers that just wasn't there when the gaming revolution came to be. It was all happy-go-lucky for everyone and everyone was making great games. Then this generation comes in and fucks it all up. FUCK YOU KIDS.
-
I hope it's better than PS3.

Well, one of my hopes is that PS4 will actually be able to compete with XBOX and PC. I feel like 360 got away with murder this generation, just because the PS3 wasn't a good enough alternative for most, and console gaming is really starting to stagnate as a result. Compare that to 10 years ago, when you had the PS2 up against the Gamecube, PC, and an amitious new Microsoft console. Or, when you had PS1, N64, and Sega competing. The competition just is not the same today. And the amount of great unique games to each system has gone down the slopes.

I'm hoping that the PS4 is easy enough to develop for this time around so that developers don't build a game to optimize the xbox and then port it to the PS3. Most of the games that were made solely for the PS3 were outstanding.

This generation has been one of the most competetively balanced between consoles. PS1 and PS2 absolutely dominated their generations, so they got a ton of exclusives. This time around we had three consoles with at least 25% of the total sales.

Given that the PS4 and Xbox720 (I hope that's not the final name) were released a year apart, and the PS3 was a unique architecture, it wasn't surprising that Microsoft ran away with all the marketing deals, head start DLC, primary development machine, etc. Now that the next two iterations are much more in line spec wise and development wise, it'll be interesting to see how they try and differentiate from each other.
It'll have to be more than Kinect/Move, as those are just gimmicky. I think they are trying to combat that by packing in all the hardware so everyone has it, making it easier for dev's to add functionality for more than just a small subset of gamers.
Sony HAS to expand their online service and features. Even if everyone has to pony up for a subscription, there is no excuse to lag behind again in this area. Microsoft needs to add more first party games. I think Sony has the edge with exclusives, and Microsoft was only able to survive because multiplatform games sold HEAVILY in the 360's favor, and the few exclusives they have sell very well (GoW, Halo, ?).

I think it will be if the rumors that both console are using the Cell thing are true.
-
I think it will be if the rumors that both console are using the Cell thing are true.
It's already been confirmed that they're not using the Cell. Both systems will feature more "off-the-shelf" components, which reduces production costs for both consoles and development costs for dev's.
-
I wouldn't be opposed to the ability to upgrade the system... something similar to the expansion bay on an N64
-
I'm trying to think of what the move light on the controller could be used for... The controller is an weird shape to be used in anyway that I can see being useful for motion tracking. Maybe it can pick up what player is sitting where and adjust the split screens accordingly? Could it somehow determine your orientation to the screen and adjust the 3D graphics accordingly?
-
PS3 is still amazing and been the only device connected to my TV for the last year or so since I got rid of cable. Netflix, gaming, DVD and BluRay are all functioning pretty good and I've had mine since 2008.
So how would they sucker people into getting a PS4; God of War 4 and Uncharted 4 is my bet heh

Exclusive GTA at launch.
-
I'm pretty stoked for this, even though I am a PC gamer.
-
You honestly think GTA to this day is more popular than GoW and Uncharted games?
-
Um..the series? Hell yes it is. Both of them combined can't hold a candle to GTA. I mean, I don't even like the games but GTA is a friggin' household name for crying out loud. Even if it is infamous for all the wrong reasons.
-

Yes.

GTA moves 50 million units, GoW and Uncharted can't do that COMBINED...
-
Any word on price?

Any word on price?
I've read a wide variety. Some ranging from $449 for a base model and $600 for a premium model. One artivle I read said $399 for a basic. If these are made if "off the shelf" parts, I imagine they will be cheaper to make and yield larger profit margins. I wonder if Sony will pass this on to the users or if theywill just take a larger cut.
It'd be nice to see one announced tonight, but I doubt it.
-
Rumours say £300 in the UK, and I think I saw something like $429 and $529 in the US for two different versions (I guess hard drive size?)
That's only rumours though.

ZOMG! I have 8GB....i'm next gen! :coolio

And Kingdom Hearts 3 will be a launch title right? And it'll use that 8 GB to it's maximum potential right?

Video upload sharing in the background! Spectator mode, and even take over control!

That'd be a very short lived console now wouldn't it.

Well, a game as anticipated as KH3 would be a great way to show off the potential of the system, and if it was done well, it could make the PS4 sell like crazy and give people an appetite for the system's future games. (What am I saying, it's a Kingdom Hearts game, of course it will be done well.)
-
I managed to completely forget about this :rollin :rollin I'm a moron.

Killzone on it's way!

Nate?

Btw pretty useless to watch next gen trailers in 480p and with lagg, defeats the purpose! :-\

Extra controllers are going to cost a fortune. I'm guessing $60+.

No, that was like the Wii Music presentation from like 3 E3 ago! :lol
-
Deep Down looked amazing.
-
Watch Dogs still looks amazing!
-
Before the presentation, I had no intentions of getting a PS4, but now I'm seriously considering it.

Any pics of the console itself?

Overall impression? Bring it on Microsoft.

This is mine, pretty much. And since I have a dedicated blu ray player, now it's Netflix and collect dust.

"The PS4 features a built-in camera for 3D tracking and motion control, similar to the Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) Xbox's Kinect attachment. "
Does this mean the camera is built onto the system? I offset my systems quite a ways away from my television... how will think work?

No, it's a separate camera like the kinect, but it's packaged in with every console.
I'm floored. Blizzard and Bungie on board?! Microsoft needs to show up with all guns blazing if they want to surpass Sony. Sony delivered on content, interface, social connectivity, PSN anywhere, etc.

Over/under on 4.5 weeks until Microsoft announces the new Xbox.

Huh, how about that. For the last few years I was under the impression that GTA has some kinda Super Mario of our generation status, people over 25 find it cool and funny to reminisce about it and the younger generations are stuck in their online first shooter or RPG gaming worlds.
Personally as someone who really went overboard on GTA's PS2 releases have lost interest, I haven't even played the PS3 GTA yet and I'm not super excited on the PS4 one. I'd be more excited about a new Just Cause game if I get into that mood.

Everything I've seen looks good. They're going to need some killer launch apps if they have any hope of selling this thing at launch though. Here's hoping they learned from the PS3's launch.
-
The one feature that really interested me is that one of taking over the game from a friend, that could be great!
-
I really like the "play the game while it's downloading" thing and the idea of EVERY game being remotely playable through the Vita.
-
I really like the "play the game while it's downloading" thing and the idea of EVERY game being remotely playable through the Vita.
I don't get this, how is this possible? Do you stream the game during the download? beacuse there's no way you could play the game FROM the download files....so why do you then have to download? Me confused! ???
-
Pretty much yeah. It'll initially download enough for you to start playing (so I guess all the core engine stuff etc) and then you stream until its all downloaded. Pretty cool idea!
I think it all sounds pretty great at the moment. I'm seeing lots of people complaining that they didn't unveil the device itself, but I don't see why that's in any way important. What it looks like isn't going to affect anything about what it does. Some people have weird priorities.

I'll be more impressed when I see playable demos which are a bit away I guess. I can only see myself picking up the new PS for Gran Turismo 6. However unlike last time I'll wait for full game to be released before I buy the console.

I can't figure out this logic.

Deep Down (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAk9OKhcQ30)
Of all the games shown last night this game impressed me the most. The sound and visual of the dragons fire is just stunning! :heart
I'm excited for Watch Dogs though but i've already seen that game.

I'm still most excited to play Watch Dogs of all the "next-gen" games announced so far, but the PS4 has a lot of potential! I guess they're gonna wait until E3 to announce pricing, show the console and release date/window.

Doubt it. He's 24, been done with college for two years, and still hasn't made a resume/applied anywhere. He also has yet to open a bank account.... Something tells me he doesn't quite grasp the basic fundamentals of currency let alone depreciation.

I'm not aware of how quickly games depreciate cause I never saw a game quickly depreciate. As usual I feel most people here come from a different gaming world than I do :lol
I guess none of the games I was ever interested in and waited for have depreciated quickly.
-
Most games drop $20-$40 within the first 3 months of release.
-
I wonder how they'll stream legacy titles. I'd love to be able to pop in my disk and "activate" streaming capabilities, as opposed to buying the game again.

PS4 Announcement - Abridged Version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rJDn0jRnUQ&feature=youtu.be)

Previously purchased PSN downloads will not play on it. Don't give a fuck about any of the strange social media features or cloud services they're pushing. I'm not convinced that there won't be cumbersome DRM limitations or that it will even play used/borrowed games (it may, but the ambiguous quote people have been claiming "confirms" it is suspect). Likely to be priced around 500 bucks. And the biggest thing for me, still no backward compatibility, or any hint of an intention to provide it in the future.
Practically all of these gripes apply to Microsoft's consoles too, while Nintendo has their own set of issues (although strangely enough, almost every selling point of the PS4 is a Nintendo innovation/Wii U selling point).
Of course the hardware will be impressive, and of course there will inevitably be at least a handful of games that I would REALLY like to play. But as big a scam as this whole industry has become, and as little time as I have lately to play video games, I think I'm done with consoles for the foreseeable future. I suppose it's too much to hope for a future in which games are available in some universal digital format, and I don't have to own 26 different game consoles or buy multiple copies of the same games in order to play them how I want.
Just so that this post isn't a TOTALLY negative buzz kill, I will say that several of the software demos they showed yesterday were pretty mind-blowing.

Good points, and I can see how if you're not into the new social integration, it wouldn't be a selling point for you. But some of those features are actually pretty new, at least for consoles. Instant video uploading. Spectate and control modes for your friends. Being able to interact with your game whether you're on your phone, tablet, PC, or console. Browse the PSN store on your phone, buy a game, it's already downloaded by the time you get home. Those are great features.
One of my concerns is that DRM may be used to limit access to those features if you didn't buy the game new. I'd rather the presence of game info on my PSN account enable those cloud features. I'd hate it if new games came with an "unlock code" that must be purchased for $10 if you bought a used copy.
-

Oh, I don't doubt at all that those features are appealing to a subset of gamers (although some of them like the PSN network availability across devices I certainly wouldn't call new or innovative). But I do wonder if they have broad enough appeal to make Sony's investment in them successful.
-J
-
I really don't care about any of the social network integration. As long as I can play sick games alone, watch Netflix, and use the blueray drive, I'm happy.

I can see the reasoning for moving more into a cohesive system across multiple devices. Mobile gaming on Apple and Android devices has exploded. If Sony and its developers are able to engage players wherever they're at, they're more likely to buy games for the console. There's something to be said for pick up and play games, and if I can interact with console quality titles wherever I am, I'd probably feel more inclined to (instantly) power on the console when I get home and continue the experience.
I'm curious what other systems you're referencing when you say that multiple device access isn't new or innovative. The only ones I know of are SmartGlass for 360, which little more than a remote companion app, and the Steam app, but that's just a store. What other service lets me pull up an app on my iPad and watch what my friend is playing in real time? They even mentioned interacting with the player; dropping power ups, health potions, etc.
-

Overall, I'm with you on this. They're not going to be able to sell it on the social stuff if the games aren't there to back it up. The social network stuff is probably going to be really cool though. The whole idea of being able to watch your friends play, cross-game chat, and the "downloading games your friends all bought" sounds like it has major potential.

Anybody else think the controller is butt ugly?

Yea i know, too much fuzz for nothing.

I do, Metty. I think it's horrid. In fact I think this whole reveal was horrid.
I have not been impressed in the slightest with any showings of the PS4. I really don't give a shit if I can see every single fiber of hair on the Minotaur's ass and the fire looks really hot owie. It all looks the fucking same. Give me some actual ingenuity, some creativity, some god damn imagination. Yeah, it looks super high-res. Great. It's been the same games shown from the last generation with a few tweaks, some social integration (which is borderline cool), and absolutely nothing that would make me want to shell out the cash to buy this. Meh. So much meh. I grew up on Playstation, so as much as I'd like to call myself a fan, this unveil may have solidified me not giving a shit.
I mean...do the graphics really have to be at the forefront? They're important, yes; but that is all they're talking about. If you're going to focus every ounce of excitement on graphics, then at least give me something that doesn't look like a photograph. That's super awesome man, I can play games and feel like I'm looking out my window. Where's the super-high-res Okami-like artwork that to this day looks better than anything I've seen shown on PS4? I'm prone to liking more artsy-whimsical styles than Gears-of-War-Killzone-Skyrim-Assassin's-Creed-Infamous-Gran-Turismo mash-up of ULTRA IN YOUR FACE SMELL THE ASPHALT GRAPHICS. Ugh. It's all so familiar. But hey, I can actually see the boogers in that Ogre's nose. NIIIIIICE!
Oh well. I'm sure there's going to be some games I'll want to play eventually, but right now I could not possible care less about anything PS4-related. Really. :\

Tio, what else are you expecting exactly?
-
Graphics: I doubt the upgrade will be less in your face, but more in the small details. More particles, better lighting, etc. Not to mention most games running native 1080P at 60FPS.
Controller: It looks odd, but I'm reserving judgment until I feel it. It appears more ergonomic, which is really all that matters. I watch my screen, not my hands when playing. The PS4 FINALLY comes packaged with a headset, an absence from last generation that made playing with your friends feel like high-fiving through a brick wall.
Social: Yeah, a lot of people aren't blown away by this, but that doesn't make it any less important when considering the market as a whole. One of the (many) reasons people bought the 360 over the PS3 was because all their friends had it. They could chat while playing, and interact with each other much more easily than trying to pair a bluetooth headset to the PS3. For the PS4 to embrace that aspect will make the console that much more attractive.
Sony tried to dig so many different holes with the last generation (It only does everything), that it ended up doing a pretty poor job on most fronts, other than games. Microsoft has the clear edge coming into this generation with a loyal fanbase. Microsoft would have to limp out of the gate to see a massive exodus of players to the PS4. Otherwise, I don't see the Sony doing any better than an equal share of the market.
That's still a huge achievement, mind you. But a lot of what I'm reading analyzes this generation as being isolated. That's not the case at all. Even though worldwide sales of the PS3 have just recently eclipsed the 360, the US market shows a clear divide, to the tune of about 50% more 360's sold over PS3. That's made even more evident when you compare sales of CoD titles. Black Ops 2 sold about 35% more copies on 360 than PS3.
Bottom Line: If Sony wants to win this generation, it needs to convince people NOT to buy the NextBox. We'll have to wait and see what Microsoft has in store, and what E3 brings us to make a better prediction.
-
Tio, what else are you expecting exactly?
I expected them to show something different. All of these games shown are nothing more than upgrades of older ideas, sprinkled with the beauty of new graphics. That's my view, anyway. Nearly every game they showed was an already established IP. I realize this is how it is with almost every company when they first unveil a system, which is why I said eventually I'll more than likely be excited for a game on the PS4; but I didn't think it'd be so overwhelmingly...old. I mean, I haven't turned on any of my systems for a while, but when the Wii was first announced, it got me excited with its creativity and new ways of thinking at least (and for the record I think it ultimately failed, but had a fantastic start and could have grown to something more).
I'm not turning this into a 'console war' talk, because I really couldn't care less about what company makes more money over another. However, I do respect Nintendo's ingenuity over Sony's complete lack of creativity and apparent 'lean-on-me' attitude towards 'powerful gaming' and graphics galore. It at least got me thinking of possibilities, it got me excited over the future. The PS4 leaves no room for that in my mind. It is what it is. I don't want them to start using motion-control or anything like that, but some new aspect would have been nice. The touch-pad on the controller is cool, but it's so miniscule that I cannot possible see this turning into a main gameplay mechanic, and it seems downright gimmicky. Something to change the way I view gaming, not 'tweak' it. Microsoft is trying with the Illumi-room (I think that's what it's called) and that's pretty awesome, and it's more in line with what I'd like to see from Sony. Something, anything that is creative and new. I mean, I'm certainly not going to think of one so I can't blame them for keeping the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality... It's just underwhelming.
I expected something new, not something 'upgraded'. If you're into the PS3 and you love FPS gaming, First-Person/Third-Person adventure ala Elder Scrolls, or racing games, then that's awesome, you'll love the PS4. But this did absolutely nothing to bring in a new market of gamers; it did nothing to bring back old fans like me who grew up with PlayStation, but were lost in the shuffle among the changing ideals of the PlayStation brand, putting flashy showcasing over creative gaming. I'm just dumbfounded by how it all looks so very similar; each and every game the showed looked like it could have come from the last.
So, maybe my expectations were set too high and I'm just in the wrong market now. Or maybe I'm becoming cynical because I'm seeing a change in direction over the last couple generations of gaming. I'm always going to be the old-fart who puts gameplay over graphics, so I realize that WiiU, in my mind, will be more appealing than the PS4. But that doesn't mean I'm immediately going to love the WiiU, however, it sure as shit got me more interested upon the reveal. This did nothing to spur my imagination. There's nothing fresh here. It's all upgrades to the same ideas that they've had since PS2. So, really, I'm not sure what I was expecting; but it wasn't this. The immense hype Sony themselves built up over the reveal certainly didn't help.
Like I said, there's no doubt that a game will come out that will make me want to buy the PS4, but as for this specific reveal, it was a complete flop for me.
tl;dr: I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't a rehash of old ideas. Which, from where I'm sitting, is exactly what the PS4 is. With...a mini-touchpad on the controller.
-
Did you see the trailers for Knack and The Witness? Because while that wasn't the main brunt of the presentation, they are almost exactly what you're calling for. Stylized, new IP, imagination, etc.
Knack Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q59tHyhDMkI)
The Witness Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7h7AleSCF4)
Not to mention the PS4 will support new models of games, such as microtransactions, episodic, free to play, etc. That opens up the indie game market substantially.
-
I agree that gameplay is the most important thing (well, actually for me story is more important than gameplay), but we can't experience that until the thing actually exists for us to play! So we have to make do with seeing the controller, and them describing what will be different about how the thing plays, which they provided.
I just don't know what difference you are expecting. You keep saying you wanted it to be different, but different how? What does different mean? Console games in that format work. Sure the Wii was quite innovative, but really it was a gimmick, a bit of fun that got old for the majority of gamers. The PS4 is trying some cool new things, but the games will still be games as we know them (which is still bloody varied) because that's what people want.
EDIT: Also, what FW said. There was plenty of innovation in there.
-
I was very impressed to say the least
-
Okay, Knack looks awesome; that's the first thing I've seen that does make me excited.
Ariich, quite honestly, I don't know what exactly I want aside from something 'different'. I mean...that is why they're the innovators and creators and I'm a waiter who consumes those creations. :lol So I apologize that I can't expand really, but even something as simple as expanding the area in which we play, like the Illumi-room, was immensely exciting for me. Precisely because it changes the way I play. That's about as expansive as I can get. If I could think of a million-dollar innovation, I wouldn't be asking for it from Sony. I wish I could so I could send them the idea.
So yes, my expectations were probably way out of whack, but I honestly figured what with their other two competitors trying out something that differs from the usual 'controller-to-television' format, that Sony would want to innovate as well; and on some fronts they have, but not enough for me to shell out a whole lot of money for what amounts to an upgraded PS3 that can't even play PS3 games outside of emulation (which, frankly, I'll be able to do on my computer as I do with almost every other generation of gaming in a few years time...okay maybe a bit more than that but I stand by the point...and for the record, most of what I have emulated, I also have in physical format...in another country). If they want me to get excited about their system, they need to show me that they're doing something different from last generation, which they hardly are, by a smidgen.
In the end, I suppose this presentation was strictly for fans who loved the PS3 and not to widen the area of their fanbase. I mean...that's clear now, but I thought they'd want to expand their market. I'm going in circles now, I know it; but I can't grasp how I could say it differently without coming up with an idea myself... Tis my issue, but I don't have a tissue. :sadpanda:

This is a good point and something I neglected to mention.
I have no console allegiance whatsoever; growing up in the Nintendo dominated era those were the systems I got (usually quite some time after they were released), and played Sega and Sony systems at friends' houses. In fact I hate Microsoft the most of all, and yet I am now a discerning consumer rather than an impulsive kid, and I own a 360 rather than a PS3. And you nailed the exact reason I bought it: I had lots of friends who had one and lived across the country or state, and it allowed me to be able to connect and play while chatting with them once in awhile. Whereas relatively fewer people I knew had a PS3, and I read some questionable things about its online interface at the time.
Now then, as is par for the course with Microsoft products, I've gone through three of them since buying the initial one about 5-6 years ago and there have been plenty of times I've cursed Sony's name for their initial missteps with the PS3 that indirectly caused the circumstances in which I voluntarily shelled out for this piece of shit.
So yes, it's imperative that Sony makes it intuitive and easier to play with friends, although I don't think that necessitates an instant share button, Facebook linking, etc. at baseline. But we'll see; maybe those features will end up being well integrated and widely used after all.

This is the first time I feel really ambivalent about a new console cycle. Everything about the PS4 looks very cool, but I don't really know, aside from some exclusives, what I would want to do with it that I couldn't do on my 1.5 year old PC.
-
Didn't get to watch any of the streams or videos of the PS4 yet, but reading through this thread while I'm at work has made me pretty interested.

I'm feeling the same way. I never bought a PS3, so all the controversial stuff doesn't really effect me, but I don't really know if I want it. The WiiU has the advantage of the usual Ninty exclusives, but it also feels like the WiiU is what we should have seen in 2006 and I'm not really compelled to purchase it right now. And if the horrid rumors about the XBox 720 ring true, I am not stepping foot on that sinking ship. :lol
I have half a mind to just continue to save up for a desktop and use Steam. For the first time, I don't really feel "tied" to Nintendo anymore. A lot of Wii titles disappointed me, so yeah.
I still may get a WiiU down the road, though. And a PS4 once we hear more about it.

What horrid rumors about the new Xbox?

Sony filed a patent for blocking used games as well dude

So games will be registered to a particular system then?

Yeah, but they've already stated it won't be used for PS4. So it's not really as big an issue now. Probably start phasing that in with PS5...
-
So why are you assuming Microsoft will? And even if its not for the ps4 it's still happening so that's a lane argument
-

I didn't assume. I even used the word "rumor". I'm saying "if" they turn out to be true.
-
Sony and Microsoft would never implement a no used games system. Yes, they filed patents, but companies file patents all the time regardless of whether they're used (no pun intended).
Even though GameStop's used sales hurt the bottom line, it's not nearly as bad as it would hurt if all retail game stores were put out of business. The amount of marketing and exposure that these game stores provide is too much to throw away.

Very true. And in this economy? Seriously, if the no-used-game policy is used (which I highly doubt anyway), I bet the most of us would be VERY choosy and careful in choosing the "right" games to buy, and that will definitely hurt game makers' bottom line even more. In that case, I think I might buy no more than 2 to 3 games a year only, knowing a "wrong" purchase is no different from flushing my money away.
-
And for those of us who tend to gamble a bit more on a new game, those same stores provide a place to recoup up to 50% of the cost.
-
I have bought many sequel games new because I was introduced to their used first installments.
-
Man, they are really hammering indie support home. (https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/189271/Sony_kills_concept_approval_makes_moves_to_get_indies_onto_PS4.php)
I'm encouraged though, since they're demonstrating that they aren't just talking about support, but are showcasing the titles and options that will be available.

Lost all interest in gaming when the PS2 cycle was done with.
The only reason i'd have a PS3 is to use the BR player and to be able to download FFVII & IX and that's about it.
I used to be a really hardcore gamer from the NES up until and including the PS2 - now I just don't have any interest at all.
I don't even own a PS2 anymore. I have a GameCube so i can play Zelda games on it & that's all.

I'm thr same exact way. I used to be a hardcore gamer, played mario when I was 3. I also got a ps3 not too long ago for bluray and to play with friends online, also I downloaded Chrono Trigger, but I mainly use it to watch dvds that are scratched to hell.
I still own a ps2, so I can just go to nobles and buy used if I want to play older ps games, a Sega Genesis that I still play. I just wish my bro didn't demolish my Snes.
Nothing about these systems interest me at all, don't care about social features, don't care about motion control, just give me a good game that will give me fun.

There's nothing like Final Fantasy 7 anymore or BEyond Good and Evil.

Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels? Skyrim? Borderlands 2? Deus Ex: HR?

Borderlands was good but wasn't impressed with the second one and Final Fantasy has been crap since X onwards.

I thought we were talking about the style (realism, length, etc) rather than quality, which is purely subjective.

That's my biggest problem with the gaming industry these days. I would pay $100 for a game like Skyrim if it means getting hundreds of hours of gameplay. I refuse to drop $60 on a Call of Duty that I can finish in the first night.
-
Then buy Skyrim and don't buy COD. That's exactly what I do. I don't see what the "problem" is - there are so many games being made, with so much variety, there are still plenty of games to suit your tastes.

Oh shit. Assassin's Creed crashed during it's in game demo! Not good.
-
What did you expect for a game that is probably in beta (or earlier) to do???
Watch_Dogs, would you shut up and take all of my money already?!
-
Elder Scrolls online!!!!
-
All that used game stuff....
Point: Sony.
-
Shots fired at Microsoft lol.
-
Sony took a big steaming shit on Microsoft June 10th, 2013.
Price isn't even a factor for me right now, this system is looking great, and Microsoft hasn't done a damn thing to please me.
-
KINGDOM HEARTS 3!!!!
-
That was so well delivered. They didn't even bother sugar coating it.
-
Was there a huge pop for that announcement?
-
It was so loud right after he mentioned used games and online :lol
-
People stood up and applauded in a loud roar. Man, if Sony undercuts M$'s price, it's game over as far as I'm concerned.
-
Only thing they could do wrong now is make it $600 again!
-
It was so loud right after he mentioned used games and online :lol
Is the online still free? They weren't too clear on that.
-
I don't know for the MP portion, that wasn't really answered.
-
If they don't reveal a price tonight, that probably means it's more expensive than the X1
-
It was so loud right after he mentioned used games and online :lol
Is the online still free? They weren't too clear on that.
Not sure. If it's a fee, I'm fine with that. I was so used to paying for live anyway.
-
$399!!!!
-
Checkmate
-
Woot!!!! :hefdaddy
-
That's a wrap! Let's go home!
-
Not only does the PS4 permit used games at no cost, as well as not requiring online connection every day, it's $100 cheaper than Microshit.

Microsoft got blown the fuck out.

Yeah they could've, but still they chose to use GDDR3 insted of GDDR5 for some stupid reason!

I'm not too upset about it. It was nice having free only for the last 12+ years, but it was miles behind Xbox live's functionality. I'll pay $60 a year to prevent those week long security breaches.

And yet that is all they need to outsell Sony's exclusives! A lot of Sony fanbois like to brag about that, but the truth is the PS owners don't buy the exclusives as much as the 360 owners.
Back in 2011, Gears of War 3 outsold LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, Twisted Metal, inFamous 2, Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 COMBINED!

I think it would be around 50 dollars a year, wich isn't really much considering it comes with free games. It's gonna be worth it.
I'm getting it a little bit after launch day because I'm getting the Wii U too.

Yes, it could happen through cloud storage but backwards compatibility means that you can play the discs, which you can't.
-
All Microsoft has going for me exclusive wise is Halo, otherwise Sony's exclusives stomped on Microsoft
The PS4 has Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (or rather FF15 now). In the immortal words of Batman and the Penguin, "Things change." :yarr
Gears of War was insanely overrated.
Also, this.

But you can back up the games you already have, so it's basically the same.

I'm so proud of Sony for their decisions. The loyalty they showed not just to Playstation fans, but to gamers in general really deserves some praise. Sure it was also a strategic move against Microsoft, but still.
-
With how bad, financially, Square Enix is doing I don't think FFXV will stay exclusive for long.

This whole thing was gold. Sony would definitely get my money over Microsoft this time.

All that's missing is Shuhei saying "deal with it".

Looks like I'm going Sony and Nintendo
-
With how bad, financially, Square Enix is doing I don't think FFXV will stay exclusive for long.
Not necessarily. If XboxDone sales suck, it might not be worth the investment of converting. I'm also guessing Sony shelled out some serious cash to keep that an exclusive.

Nintendo for the classics. Sony for the graphics.

This.
Also, both FF15 and KH3 are being spearheaded by Tetsuya Nomura. If memory serves me right, he's not a particularly big fan of Microsoft. There was also a rumor awhile back that the former CEO of S-E tried to convince Nomura to make FFV13 for both the PS3 and the XBox 360 and Nomura stood his ground on it being an exclusive. Granted, that's just a rumor, but it's one I'd be willing to believe.

Pretty much heh, and even then the wii-u and 3ds are both incredibly solid graphics wise :)

True, but again, Nomura. If either game ends up being multi-platform, it'd probably be PS4 and the Wii-U.
-
And waste time converting the game to PowerPC instead of porting it to another x86 based console? I don't know.
-
I believe the Wii U can't run the FFXV graphics shown.
-
I believe the Wii U can't run the FFXV graphics shown.
I was actually thinking more about KH3 there. I could possibly see a FFXV port for the XBox Done, but KH3? That's definitely either going to be a PS4 exclusive or released on just PS4 and Wii-U.
-
I own a 360, but I'm thinking of switching. I have a question, though.
The ps3 still plays many (most?) Ps1 games...will the ps4 as well?
If it doesn't, you could just always go out and spend ten bucks to buy a ps1 if you're feeling retro. Personally, I couldn't care less if the ps4 is backwards compatible with PS 1-3 disks.
From the keynote, I think it was mentioned that you'll have access to a ton of old classic PS games on the PS4. Now, whether that means downloadable through their online store exclusively, I have no idea. Would be cool if you didn't have to repurchase your games.
-
PS4 has a 500GB hdd too. Comes without camera and wireless controller, both of which cost 60$.

That cannot be right!

No shit!
lol. wow... I don't follow crap about Microsoft, but if that's the the schtick with xbox, boy am I glad I made the decision to go with PS a few years ago over xbox. I'm not much of an online gamer, and buy most of my games used about 12 months after initial release (I still have yet to start Dishonored which I bought on Boxing Day).
Might be needing me a PS4. If only it were backward compatible, so I didn't need to hookup two systems to my one TV in the man-cave.
-
Yet another KO blow to the Xbox One, PS4 is region free! So people from places where it would cost a lot, like New Zealand or Australia, can just buy from a much cheaper place and pay the shipping! This obviously also applies to games. And the 500Gb HDD is upgradable!
I wonder what SATA speed it uses or would it be capable to change it to an SSD.
-
Mother of God
-
Come visit the States, find one with no sales tax and make out like a bandit! :yarr
-
Or just buy it on Amazon, pay like $50 for the shipping and it's still cheaper than in New Zealan/Australia and the Xbox One.
-
tru dat...
-
I heard a rumor that the streaming service they're integrating with would be capable of streaming every PS1/PS2/PS3 game that is currently on the Playstation Store. Even better, I heard that all of those games would be FREE for PS Plus subscribers. No source, since I heard it from a friend of mine at work, but that seems like awfully wishful thinking.
That would make PS Plus the most cost effective subscription in the history of the world, considering PS1/PS2 games retail for about $9.99 on the store, and PS3 games can be up to $60.
-
At first i had/have no intention of buying a new console, i'm really happy gaming on my PC and that will still be my main platform no matter what but as a complement and also to be able to play PS4 exclusives i must say....PS4 is starting to sound really promising! I will see when the launch approaches though if it's still affordable.
-
PS Plus will be the best thing a person could ever spend $5 on if that ends up being true. Sony really is throwing more dirt on that nice grave Microsoft dug for themselves.
-
PC gamer here and I'm not likely to buy a console anytime soon but damn did the Xbox take a beating.
I'm a big fan of the consumers saying FU to the corporate machine when they try screwing you over and it makes me wonder if the ps4 was thinking of doing away with used games but when Xbox says they are going all DRM, the ps4 just capitalized on the massive complaints and now they look like a hero. :tup

With how bad, financially, Square Enix is doing I don't think FFXV will stay exclusive for long.
FFXV was never announced as exclusive to begin with, nor is it. Both it and KH3 were announced to the XOne. Sure, Versus was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive, but with the name and platform change that no longer mattered.

Actually during Sony's press conference last night they said FFXV would be exclusively on the PS4. Now whether they misspoke or Square Enix changed their mind I don't know.
-
Are you sure you didn't just mistake them saying FFXIV was PS exclusive for meaning all three of FFXIV, FFXV, and KH3 were?
@PlayStation (7:18 PM - 10 Jun 13) Both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III are coming to PS4! And FFXIV is coming exclusively to PS3 and PS4!

Ouch. :lol
-
Looks like I'll just be watching LP's of KH3.
I'm not getting the PS4 for KH3 and FFXV. I don't feel like spending the money. My model of PS3 was not compatible with any PS2 games, so I still have a PS2 along with my PS3 (which by the way I only have 3 games for: Skyrim, FFXIII, and Portal 2).
Unless I don't have to buy a specific model compatible with PS3 AND PS2, I'm most likely not getting it.

That dude just helped add "snobby" and "exaggerative" to the list of negative words that can describe Microsoft. Seriously? You're gonna cite an isolated case of a dude on a nuclear sub as a representation of the internet-deprived world as though that's how unlikely it is that a gaming consumer is without internet.
-

When I watched that all I can think is "Really? He said that? Wow..." Then I thought about all the other poor suckers that won't be able to use Xbox One. Like someone that's at the summit of Mt. Everest, A guy in a tree deep within the Amazon, a man lost in the Gobi desert, a dead man in a cemetery. He has a point. These people can stick with the 360 or gtfo.

I'm gonna take that as sarcasm and retort. A buddy of mine just got out of the Army after a couple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. They played games there all the time, but it was all offline because the internet sucked and/or was crazy expensive.
Not to mention the hours I spent gaming during the full week I was without internet during my recent move. For Microsoft to say that I'm "Not Allowed" to play games in that scenario is asinine.
-
Given Aythe's posting history, I took it as a casual joke since I've never found him to be rude at any time thus far. My point was that millions of people can't afford regular internet access and that it's flat-out insulting to them to belittle such a huge chunk of society as something as anomalous and unheard of as some random schlub on a nuclear sub especially in the tone in which that snob in the video did.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic for sure. I all seriousness, MS is definitely shooting themselves in the foot here. That statement he made definitely makes him out to be a snob that seems pretty oblivious as to how a lot of the real world works. Either that or MS simply doesn't give a damn anymore and they're catering exclusively to the privileged. Either way, it's going to hurt them for sure.

If this guy has some kind of involuntary twitch, I apologize for what I'm about to say. His perpetual bobblehead doll body language really seems to hint at someone who's lying so badly that every word coming out of his mouth causes increasing discomfort for him. Also, (during his "4 key components in that ecosystem" (regarding the pre-owned games market) spiel at around 2:30) he's condescending in the worst way and that is he's basically uttering complete lies and saying them anyway like a kid telling mom he didn't break the vase even though he was home by himself all day. When people go that far, they're saying either A) "Despite the absurdity of my claims, I actually think you're still dumb enough to believe it" or B) "We both know I'm full of shit but I couldn't care less about what you think of my integrity level anyway."
-
What's with all the dumbass references to the cloud? "Access to the Internet requires the cloud" ?? Does this guy even know what 'the cloud' is, or is he just using it as a buzz word?
-
Smaller than i thought actually which is nice.

Goddamn the old PS3 was ugly though! :lol And of course the SexBoned 1 looks like a VCR.

I liked the launch models of the PS3. The slim was hideous.
-
The PS4 also looks like a VCR, only that the PS4 is on italics.

All I know is that I just watched the extended trailer for MGSV, and they can have my money....all of it. That game, at least from the cutscenes, looks amazing.

I've never once thought my slim looked hideous. It looks nicer than the original model, if you ask me.

I'll have to agree, that looked awesome!

I just hope it's more a game than an interactive movie.
-
I just hope it's more a game than an interactive movie.
After playing a few Metal Gear Solid games I've come to the conclusion that cutscenes are not only its number one flaw but borderline detrimental. No pause in the older games, or option to save during them, is a massive annoyance for someone that rarely plays for blocks longer than 20-30 minutes. MGS4 did it better, but it was so overblown at times I felt like it was keeping me away from a game I was enjoying. Heck, it was already doing that in MGS2.
...and I love the games. I hope cinema is kept to a minimum in MGSV.
What about V being split into two games? Is it just two "games" on the one release, or is it being split into two releases?
-
MGS4 was the worst offender in this! It also managed to turn Solid Snake from a badass to a hindrance who was always getting in the way of the real people trying to do good.
-
With the series moving into open world, I doubt there will be too many cutscenes

I haven't seen or heard a single mention of the PS4 supporting 3D games and movies. Did Sony abandon it?! I sure fucking hope not seeing as I just spent a grand on a 55" 3D.

I'm holding out for 4D, personally. It's gonna make all this 3D crap totally obsolete.

To each his own, but Killzone 3, Motor Storm Apocalypse, Call of Duty, and Gran Turismo are all greatly enhanced and more enjoyable in 3D. Let us not forget Avatar on 3D Bluray.
Surround sound was considered a gimmick at one time.
-
I have absolutely no desire for 3D, and I do find it very gimmicky. Every single film that I've seen in 3D that I've also seen in 2D looked better in 2D. More colourful, more detailed, more vibrant.

I agree with this for the majority of 3D movies, but i blame the directors, not the technoogy. I argue that that's because directors just have some post production company whip up some gimmicky 3D stuff once the movie is already made. Movies like Avatar, How to Train Your Dragon (exception), Hugo, and Life of Pi, that were filmed from the very first frame with 3D in mind and are mostly filmed with 3D cameras, come out awesome.

For what it's worth, ESPN is dropping 3D support.

As they should. Their production of it sucks. The technology is not good at creating live 3D entertainment just yet.

Chino, I found Avatar much more appealing in 2D, the colours are so much more vibrant and Pandora looks so much more beautiful. The 3D added absolutely nothing for me. And I haven't played any 3D games, but as I just don't like watching things in 3D, I don't think I want it anyway.

I'll have the following games on launch:

Battlefield 4
Killzone: Shadowfall
Assassin's Creed IV

I get off work at 3pm, and don't go back until Tuesday, so I'll be playing the entire weekend. :caffeine:

That looks like typical legal jargon that isn't necessarily incongruent with actual practice.
6.3 seems targeted towards merchants, or players acting as merchants, not your buddy buying a game off you.
7.1 is true, and we have expressly authorized permission from Sony to treat disc-based games as we have been. Publishers have done so as well. These lines simply codify the potential to change the status quo, which they've always had the ability to do. It was the massive public backlash that prevented it.

Don't know if what is true? They sell you a license and, for disc games, a disc to go with it, not the software. It's an intellectual property thing.

But that's with the phone centered in your hand. If its weight was 4-5 inches from the center of you hand (like it is attached to the controller), it'd probably feel insanely heavy after a bit of play.

What games would you play tonight? Depending on what you've got, it may not be a bad thing to put off the PS4 for tonight.
Me? I've got ants in my pants waiting for it to be delivered to the office, at which point I'll be completely unproductive until I leave at 3pm. :caffeine:

Battlefield 4

I'd probably stay home for that, but then again, I'm not DTF's resident Avatar fanatic. :lol What kind of event are they putting on?

currently, my most up to date console is my ps2. I can't wait for ps4 to come out, ps3s should tumble in value meaning I can pick up a cheapy and have a full console's game catalogue at my disposal :)

For those folks with a PS4... Get the game "Don't Starve". It's free with PS+ this month. I spent like 11 hours playing it today.

I have decided to wait until something I reeeeeally wanted to play, like Uncharted 4, before I would go out and get a PS4.

Hopefully i'll get a PS4 for my birthday or Christmas this year. With the possibilty of new awesome games coming out this year i'm so getting one :D. Anyone else looked over the "Shadow of Mordor" game? It's kinda like Assassin's Creed but in a Tolkien setting :metal

For me a new Silent Hill or Dead Space would be the reason to get a PS4 anytime before late 2015.
Or a new Just Cause ;)

Well, when I "thought about buying a PS4", it was after announcement of the system and some really awesome looking games. Not my fault all those games were delayed until unknown launch dates. I also purchased it when I was single.

-
Infamous: Second Son is the first game I think that was actually built just for the PS4. It's a sequel to the other Infamous games, but I never played those so I don't think it's essential to know the backstory. The combat in the game is quite addicting.

And Outlast is a free PSN+ survival horror game that takes place in a mental asylum and you play a journalist who only has a video camera. Similar to Amnesia. Short, but sweet

So, I'm thinking about getting a PS4 some time in the very near future (like, tomorrow). What games should I be playing?
-
With some of the games announced at E3 this week (Uncharted 4, Battlefront, Last of Us remastered), I'm thinking so too. Though, probably not tomorrow. The Arkham Knight gameplay trailer is killer!
-
I'm definitely getting one too. The sony press conference sold me 100%.
-
Been looking for a reason to buy a PS4... with Uncharted 4, the Last of Us remastered and GTA V remastered all expected to come out soon? Damn, I am ready to get me one now too!
-
Make sure you buy the PS Plus subscription even if you don't plan to play online multiplayers. Every month the give away 2 free games for the PS4 and the PS3.

Isn't that the way they offer PS3-gen games for either streaming or purchase/download?

Also keep in mind that the account also applies to PS3. So if you have both consoles, you can actually get 4 free games per month.

No, no. You're thinking of Playstation Now.
With PS Plus you download those free games to your PS3/PS4 and will be yours as long as you have the subscription. It also gives you all kinds of deals on games and DLC on the PS Store.
Yes, Azyiu, it's quite a steal!

Got a PS4. Anyone who feels like playing Battlefield 4 this summer, add me: UMH1992

My launch week PS3 finally gave me the yellow light of death. I'm super depressed. I never backed up my data, so I've lost a crap load, of which I probably only care about four games. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a PS4, despite the fact that the only three games I am remotely interested in haven't even been released yet, and maybe only one of them this year - or if I want to go for another PS3 with "The Last of Us" bundled, as that is one of the three PS4 games I care about. I also heard that PS4's can not save and play movie files and music files from a USB drive. Is this true? Not a deal breaker, but it is nice to watch "The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun Time Hour" from my TV and not always at my computer. What do you say PS4 owners? Level with me.
-
I can't give too much input, as I only bought my PS4 a week ago, but visually it is definitely a stunning machine. No point in continuing on with an old system, especially if you lost so much data. I have InFamous, which was short, but really good, and am currently playing Tomb Raider which is really engaging and excellent so far.
-
The lack of backwards compatibility plus the complete lack of games on the PS4 that interest me have me leaning toward either getting mine fixed or getting a new PS3. I really think I'm just going to sit out the PS4. It didn't look THAT much better, and I don't think I'm going to miss out on much other than Elder Scrolls Online and Bloodraine. If a few years from now things change, I'm sure the PS4 will be cheaper, and maybe they will have a new version of it (much like the fat PS3 begat the slim PS3.
-
PS4's library is a little (okay extremely) bare right now. There's a wash of awesome new content coming around Fall of this year and a downright SURGE of excellence next year. Still holding onto my PS3 because of a bunch of games I've missed and a ton of new stuff still coming (PERSONA 5 PERSONA 5 PERSONA 5 OH FUCK HOLD ME PLEASE SWEET BABY JESUS AND THE INDIANS AHHHHHHHH).
All the PS4 remasters look pretty nice so far, but the reality is they looked just fine last-gen and they're probably way cheaper now. I'd probably hold off, in your case.

Likewise, except MLB 14 is my crutch and it's already out so my life is already half-controlled.

Yeah, I'm just going to try to extract the disc that is in my YLOD'ed machine, then sell it for a new The Last of Us bundle.

Assuming the game is 10x better than watching or playing the sport, I can still safely assume you keep it in your PS4 to ensure you go out and enjoy life outside of video games?

Baseball = Only good sport
-
Baseball = Only good sport
... for people who only watch 1 sport.
Seriously?? Baseball is the least exciting of any sport. There's more tension and action in Poker.
-
Baseball is the most strategic sport out there. It's the only team sport I know of that isn't based 100% on pure physical strength. A pitcher that throws hard will do well, but it's more important to be able to locate the ball so that the opposing hitter can't hit it. Plus, the pitcher/batter mind game far outweighs any other "tension" from another sport.
If you watch a baseball game, you can't honestly tell me you don't feel any tension at all when Miguel Cabrera is up to bat with runners on second and third, two outs. He could potentially blow the game wide open with a home run, or if the pitcher outsmarts him, he could limit the damage.
Baseball fucking rules.
-
Baseball is the shit. It's the only game worth paying to go see IMO... Well, maybe hockey too.
-
I'm not saying this from an anti-baseball point of view, but football is way more strategic because it is also coordinated.
Along with what Chino said, hockey is the best sport to watch live, football has become the ultimate TV sport.
-

Exactly my point. I don't watch sport just for the strategy... I watch it mostly for the display of skill and am entertained by action/activity. A little league baseball coach has to be strategic a lot more than a major league coach, but I don't see to many people watching little league games.
Baseball requires minimal exertion, and offers little in the form of action/activity. There's more 'waiting' in baseball than there is in playing.

Even if I knew who Miguel Cabrera was, I doubt I would feel any tension.
You can't tell me that seeing Gus Hansen flop a straight when his opponent has a nut flush draw doesn't fill you with tension. Does he continue his pre-flop betting, and put some coins in? What if he gets re-raised? Does he re-raise himself. Or should he slow role him, not putting him on the flush draw. Decisions, decisions.
:lol I'm being sarcastic of course. A little.
Thread officially derailed.
-
Honestly, the batter/pitcher head-games remind me a lot of poker. Hitters have to wait for a pitch they can hit, and while you can see the ball before you physically try to smack at it, a lot of pitching in the game today is based on deception. A pitcher wants every ball to look the same coming out of the glove. A lot of pitches fade away from where the hitter thinks they're going, so the batter has to recognize that and lay off the pitches since they're likely going to move out of the strike zone. On the same token, a hitter might let a fastball go by because he thought it might have been something else.
Baseball requires minimal exertion, and offers little in the form of action/activity. There's more 'waiting' in baseball than there is in playing.
Quotes like these just make me sad. That "waiting" just makes it all the more nerve-wracking and tense. The action to me is in the lack thereof. Football and baseball games take about the same amount of time to play, but baseball keeps me more on the edge of my seat. Why? Mainly because in Football you're limited in time, so once a team has achieved enough of a lead the other team is basically fucked. In baseball, I've seen numerous comebacks of 8 runs or more in the final inning of play, and that shit is downright incredible. A baseball game is never over until the last out is made, and there's something terrifying about that. You can never truly be comfortable, because even the best pitchers and hitters can still make mistakes.
Okay I should probably just stop. I could argue this all day, but this is neither the time nor the thread.
PS4 is awesome.
-
Yeah we probably could argue the merits, but this aint the thread, and I don't peruse the baseball thread as you know. Back on topic
PS4... could be a xmas gift for me and jingle.son I still have some PS3 games to start/finish, so when the library is interesting enough, then we'll make the plunge. There's enough on the horizon as I've already mentioned that has me ready and willing. I doubt I'll buy another PS3 game. The next purchase will likely be on the PS4 format.
-
Just my two cents, but people who don't like baseball are literally Hitler. kthansbye
-
People often say that watching baseball is like watching a chess match. That's fine and dandy, but I'd find 10x more enjoyment watching a chess match. To say that baseball is more strategic than most other sports is rather dumb, imo. It's simply so drawn out and boring the strategy walks up and punches you in the face because there isn't much else to do. In Basketball, Football, Hockey, and really any other major team sport the strategy is there, but the strategic decisions are often made on instinct or in seconds.
-
No clue how people can say baseball is boring I'd rather watch Baseball than Hockey and most Football games.

The Official Playstation 4 Thread
-
You're right, I've done a terrible thing here.
On topic, I can't imagine why anyone would play MLB games when there are NHL, NFL, NBA, and FIFA games out there.
-
I used to play baseball games, but I hated the idea of simulating most of the season. I didn't want to play 162 games myself and I did want to play multiple seasons. In general though I slowly faded out playing sport games. Just not something I'm interested in anymore except the occasional friendly game against a friend in like Madden if NHL.
-
I really, really don't like sports video games.
-
Amen to that, man. But I don't like sports in general, so that probably contributes to it for me.
-

The NHL season is long, and I often play 6-7 seasons for each installment of games. Last year I did something that I will likely continue. I enjoy the GM portion of things so much that I would simulate through the regular season, playing only once every 10 games, and then playoffs. Not something I'd do all year, but while gearing down and getting ready for a new one to come out, it got me through some more seasons nicely.
-
The reason anybody plays MLB The Show is for the "Road to the Show" mode where you create a player and work him up through the minor leagues before finally making major league debuts, winning world championships, shit like that. It's massively addictive, and being a pitcher (they only play every 5 games or so) makes the season go by a hell of a lot faster. I played through 4 whole seasons on the PS3 version and I'm sure I'll get through at least 6 before MLB 15.
-
NHL has a game mode just like that, but I've never played it much. I find much more enjoyment out of running a team than a single player, though I can certainly see the appeal in the latter. Maybe I'll try it again with NHL 15.
-
I miss the days of Slugfest.
-
So, Destiny is fucking awesome.
-

Yep! I had played the weekend alpha, but wasn't totally convinced. The beta is making me want to buy the game the more I play it!

Really loving the whole idea of MMO/Borderlands loot and leveling/Halo shooting. I wasn't sold on it at all before playing it, but it works really well.
-
I am so lame... and I've just bought myself a PS4 a couple days ago... late to the party. :hat

Fucking finally!!!

I've been waiting for this since I got my PS4. I hate having to use my controllers for media control. However, I control all of my audio (television, bluetooth player, record player, game consoles) through an RCA receiver from the late 80s. It sounds amazing, but I'm afraid it will be too old to pair with this new remote :-\
-
^ it's about damn time! :tup
-
Great, I'll be sure to get one.
-
Still needs a QWERTY keyboard.
-
Just picked up a PS4 this last Sunday. Call of Duty Black Ops III bundle with 1TB of memory. Oh yeah! :2metal:
-
I got Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD for my PS4 .
Currently working my way through X.
-
I just set up a media server on my PC, streaming to my PS4.
-
Ooh La La !
-
Okay.
-
I just set up a media server on my PC, streaming to my PS4.
How does that work exactly? How do you set up a media server and how does the streaming proccess work? Just a bit curious cause I've never done anything like that. :)

It was pretty easy. I installed the software from this site (www.universalmediaserver.com) and then chose the folders I wanted to share. I opened up the Mediaplayer app on the PS4 and it shows Universal Media Server in the list. I can then access mp3s and movies on my PC. It streams through my wifi connection.
-
Oh, cool! I might check that out. :tup
-
I think in Windows you can just right click a folder and set it to shared. I use that for DLNA media streaming which is built into windows and many other devices such as smart TVs. I use that for streaming from my PC to my TVs. Plex is a popular free media streaming tool as well.

Has anyone swapped out hard drives on their PS4? I can't update a game because it's full (8 fucking games), so I bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I8O6OQ4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I8O6OQ4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00)
I'd like to hear from anyone with experience in this, good or bad. It doesn't void the warranty, and looks simple enough.
-
If anyone wants to add me on PSN - my handle is kotow1701 :yarr
-
I'm dreamtheatervt because I signed up for PSN back in 2006. Feel free to add.
Actually, we should sticky a list of names in the OP since most of that info is useless.

I've never done it, but from what I've read Sony made it super easy. I guarantee there's a Youtube tutorial on how to do it.
-
It does look easy, which is why I wanted to do it. I just figured other people played more games than me and probably came to this crossroads. I'll post how it went after I get it and install it.
-
Even if you did so at some point in this thread, please reply with your PSN name. I'll create a master list in the OP.
Mine's "Chino-onihC" if anyone wants to add me.

BTW, I picked up "Until Dawn" the other day. Anybody have that?

I just wanted to report that swapping out hard drives on the PS4 is about the easiest thing in the world. It took about 5 minutes to take the case off, take out the old HD, and put the new one back in. It doesn't take long to reinstall the OS either. You'll have to reinstall games and download updates, but you can do that during down times.
If you need HD space and you have the money to sink into a bigger HD, it's worth doing. Just make sure the one you want to buy will fit in the PS4 - and that's pretty easy to find.
-
Just bought FF7 HD port for PS4. Playing it now :)

Good to know. :) Although, I got a 1TB bundle so space should'nt be a problem and hopefully it'll last a long time.
-

it is yeah. It was released yesterday.

Nice! I haven't browsed the store in a few days. Need to check it out. :tup

Well, game #9 was too much for the 500 GB model. Depends on how much you have and when you bought it.
-
Ugh, I'm thinking I should bite the bullet. My PS3 is SOLID as a ROCK though. But there are games I can't play and that's kind of the reason for even having it, no?
Stadler33 by the way.

Yeah, I just downloaded the demo yesterday and I like it a lot. Much better than the FFIVX MMO. The FPS is really cool. Will probably buy the game. :tup
-
Just got a PS4 (Uncharted edition) on Boxing Day. Have Arkham Knight, CoD Advanced Warfare, Witcher; jingle.son has Battlefront.
Looking forward to taking it for a spin in a bit.
-
Totally hooked on Destiny The Taken King right now. Lovin' it.
-
Just heard Final Fantasy 9 is getting the HD treatment next.
Along with the same "cheats" as the FF7 version.
• X3
• Unlimited health & Limit
• Zero Encounters
Can't wait for the PS4 version.
-
Totally hooked on Destiny The Taken King right now. Lovin' it.
Ok, almost 3 months later and still playing Destiny. Haven't played anything else since. :lol

Fix'd for me. Just finished the main mission last week, still have a few treasure hunt's to complete, then the "?" areas, and I bought the Hearts of Stone expansion. Probably got another 2 months to go.
Then Arkham Knight.
-
I went back to Dragon Age: Inquisition to play the DLCs and spent a good 15-20 hours back on it.
-
I have 10 games, but I play mostly MLB for some reason.
-
I noticed that Doc, almost every time I see you only online. Hey, if you love it then play the shit out of it I always say.
-
Helldivers might be my new favorite game.
-
Just picked up Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Tom Clancy's The Division yesterday. Both are awesome, but Uncharted 4, wow...what a story that deeply immerses you right from the start. Love it.
-
Not sure if I already posted this but I like using my PS4 for iPlayer and Youtube and Netflix so I can watch stuff whilst still browsing on my Mac :)
-
My PlayStation4 is my main Netflix/YouTube player as well. It works awesome for that. And I love the fact that the PS4 doesn't force you to restart your game when you feel like watching a movie, it just freezes it so you can return at the exact same spot you left off. :tup
-
Yeah, I use my PS4 more as a media player (streaming, music, movies) than as an actual gaming console. I'm not really a gamer, aside for some Diablo 3 occasionally.
-
Uncharted 4 is like being in a movie. Of course, a lot of games with storylines are like that, but this game takes it to another level. Awesome!
-
We're probably going to get a PS4 this christmas. But honestly, the only reason we're getting one is because my father really really wants to have the Final Fantasy XII remake when it comes out. He's doing a playthrough of the game right now.
-
I'm interested in the FF VII remake and *maybe* XV.
But after X i'm pretty much done with FF.
-
I have the FFX & X-2 HD remakes. Classics. Especially X. Played XII on PS2 and it was ok. Haven't played it in quite some time.
-
I have Final fantasy 7 HD on PS4 and also the X/X2 HD re-release too.
Love X - but it does get boring after a while and i've barely played X2.
Final Fantasy X has that one fight with that Sin Spawn with the arms that re-generate - you finally defeat it and you can't save - then it comes back and you defeat it again - and still no save -
but it shows you a save point on screen which you cannot reach.
Fucking pathetic. WHAT IF YOU HAVE A POWER CUT ?
Stupid.
-
Power outage? :lol C'mon man. How unlikely is that? Save when journey continues. The one thing I hate the most is random encounters. Annoying as fuck. Of course, later in the game, you can get a "no encounters" equipment upgrade. FFX is still one of my favs.
-
It's not very likely but that particular part of the game takes FOREVER. It took well over 45 mins to save again.
*IF* you had a power cut before you saved you'd have to do it all again. >_>
-
Yeah, but that boss fight is easy. Didn't take me 45 mins. :p
BTW, I think Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is my new favorite game.
-
I hated it. It took so long.
-
The PS4 Pro looks pretty cool, but since I just bought a regular PS4 last winter, I definitely won't be getting one. I probably will just wait for a formal PS5
I also don't plan on getting a new TV anytime soon either.
-
I will probably sell my old PS4 and get the new Pro one, along with PlayStation VR! :metal
-
I will most likely get a PS4 slim if my PS4 ever packs up.
-
Count me in for the Pro and VR.
