If it's usually anything, track two's usually the heavy-ish radio single. The softest song's been second exactly twice - and there's probably a nugget in there, if anyone's still looking.

Dream Theater - An Evening Shift at McDonald's
1.Bow Before Me, Mortal Ones (16:32) (lyrics by Petrucci) - mostly consisting of guitar soloing that would make Yngwie Malmsteen think about chancing a career
2.A Lonely Forklift Blues (03:35) (lyrics by LaBrie) - a sad song about underrated vehicles
3.There Are Things That Aren't Taught on Hogwarts (07:57) (instrumental) - Rudess uses iPad, Continuum, MiniMoog and various other instruments
4.4/4 (08:53) (lyrics by Petrucci) - something very different to what the track title suggests
5.No, We Don't Know What Is Muse (04:27) (lyrics by Petrucci) - Never Enough meets Prophets of War
6.Too Many Cheeseburgers (12:16) (lyrics by LaBrie) - in the end, if listen very closely, you can hear JM burp! first time ever he does any vocal contribution to DT album
7.Fallen Skies from Above, Pure Stillness Shattered and Torn into the Night (18:59) (lyrics by Petrucci) - huge epic song, which lyrics will be analyzed to bits until JP tells in an interview that they are about eating mushrooms
8.Dark Tales Fulfilled (33:16) (lyrics by Myung/Petrucci) - the best DT song ever
I Not Ready
II Under the Control
III Glad to See You
IV Go Away

I finally found some artwork that matches what I want to see as a cover. As much as I love their colorful aspects and ingenious atmospheres (most courtesy of Hugh Syme), I want to see another ToT album. I want to know I'm getting metal with my prog. I dream in black and white, so I would like that to be in the music.Artwork will come later in an edit.Artwork still to come later in an edit, or new post. Not sure.
I like it as well, my only complaint would be the title font. It doesn't really fit into the cover in my opinion.

Looks more like a James LaBrie solo album cover.Dark colours, man in a suit, grungey look - yep, that's JLB style alright! DT covers are more vibrant than that, but as prog covers go, that's a cool one.

Suck on the pipe and make them uptight
Accent is getting just a little bit distinguished

I don't get why everyone hates it.They don't! It's just polarising. Like Scarred. People who hate that stuff can't stand it, the people who love it properly, really love it. We've probably got a couple more from column A, not quite as many from column B, but when people are ranking SC tracks, I'm surprised how often it tends to sit right near the top.

("The Dark Eternal Night is like Scarred" - robwebster, 2013.)
I'd like more shorter songs, with just a couple of longer songs, more like Awake or FII in structure. ADTOE was getting back to that more, although it felt like it had too many 10+ minute tracks, and they largely felt redundant to me.tl;dr version: Blob wants the new album to be like Awake.
I'd also like to see more regard for interconnected tracks, such as a small suite like AMBI, or tracks flowing into each other like on SFAM, or even Hell's Kitchen/LITS.
Of course they can do the complete opposite and I wouldn't mind. I just want good music. :tup
I'm with him! I'm a little more indifferent to Awake than a lot of posters here, (read: a lot more indifferent - good album, good not great,) but we had an epic per album for a good five years, culminating in BCSL, which was sort of an album of epics and pseudo-epics. I'm more than happy to throw the lever the other way for a bit. Brevity is wit - traditionally, "the soul of," but I cut that for pace. ADToE was a step in that direction, without even pseudo-epics, but there were still a lot of double figures. Just cos I think Awake's a mid-range album doesn't mean every single choice is an average one. I like the eleven-track album, I like the short songs. Cool approach, increasingly rare approach, and I'd like to see them dabble in that sort of niche again.I'd like more shorter songs, with just a couple of longer songs, more like Awake or FII in structure. :lol SomeoneLikeHim's comment was a playful jab at my own "indifferent" opinion towards Awake in case you missed it, but your post expands on my thoughts very nicely.Oh, yeah! I was sort of trying to address that with the "Just cos I think Awake's a mid-range album doesn't mean every single choice is an average one" bit. That you don't like Awake, but you think there are things about it worth reproducing... isn't a contradiction.

I wouldn't mind an album like Octavarium. (Though people dislike it for its inconsistency.)I think Octavarium is perfect when it comes to song lengths. And also, I think it's a lot more consistent than ADTOE, or even I&W for example.

I would be so happy if this turned out to be true.
I tried to do one for The Black Album but the only song title I could think of was
" Enter Sandgini " :lol
Then I got completely stumped and gave up ;D
There are lots of small pleasures in life, but I think the pleasure of slapping Dream Theater logos and stupid titles all over Hugh Syme's portfolio is one of the sweetest.
Something like this?(https://i43.tinypic.com/2zstwrk.jpg)
Why do I get the feeling the dude on the unicycle fell off the rope, into the ocean, and now this thing is the rescue party searching for him? Here's one i RUSHED out...

Zydar posted it on the last page - we're putting DT logos and titles on scattered scraps of Hugh Syme artwork from his portfolio. I highly recommend it:

I think i got the closest with the album art and one song about sleepwalking ;D
Yeah, I'm happy to crown KotowBoy this cycle's winner. Number of tracks, Earth from space, sleep theme, the word "theory." Unless there's another contender?

I think "A Story Waiting to Be Told" was taken from the lyric paper in one of the studio pics - someone zoomed it and we could read what JP had written.Dream Theater - WIAFMSTOSBAU

I know I'm replying to an old thread, but this must be pointed out in our post-DT12-release times. This is remarkably close to an actual lyric in Illumination Theory. "A story that needs to be told"
Bravo sir! Well played!
Except that says, "A story begging to be told". I wonder if Gaspr misread it, or if he just changed it to Waiting to be more poetic.

I'm actually refering to MM. You have to bear in mind the 7 hour drum cadenza in the middle.......totally improvised!4. Miketropolis (16:08:23)
Crikey, Miketropolis is clocking in at over 16 hours! :lol
Yeah it's everything he's recorded since he left DT.
