Haven't seen much in the way of posts to lead me to believe there's a lot of fans here, but there are threads for other similar bands so what the hell.
Today is the UK release date of their new album House Of Gold And Bones Part 1, which I'd definitely recommend to anyone who likes anything from this band - and if you've never listened to them, I'd recommend trying it out.
House Of Gold And Bones Part 1 streaming here (https://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/4).
Anyone else like the band? Favourite album / song? Thoughts on the new album?
I've only been listening to HOGAB Part 1 since it first streamed a few days ago, but right I'd say it's probably their best album (although I'm not too familiar with their first one). It's a great listen from start to finish, each song is good and none sound particularly like each other.
Tired is my favourite from the new album (although that could change with time) - my favourites in general are probably Zzyzx Rd., Through Glass, Say You'll Haunt Me.
-
I enjoyed Come What(Ever) May. I haven't listened to the others though.
Favourite song? "30/30-150".
-
Haven't listened to these guys for ages, didn't realise they had a new album out.
I enjoyed their first 2 albums, especially Come What(ever) May, but I can't remember a thing about the third album. Will have to give them a listen again soon :tup
-
Really dig their 2nd and 3rd albums.
The 1st has some great songs, but their drummer is just so awful that I never listen to it.
Looking forward to this new one.
-
I liked "Bother" way the hell back when that single first came out. Can't say I've listened to anything else from them.

Eh. I remember when that song had every 15 year old female slipknot fan getting wet. In fact that song alone made me avoid anything Corey Tayler for quite some time. However I finally listened to their songs that weren't ballads written for the purpose of showing he's more than just a clown in a mask, and I dug it. Thankfully they made a HUGE improvement when they got their new drummer.
-
Stone Sour is awesome. I didn't think much of Audio Stinkrecy but their first two albums are great. I never heard anything wrong with their first drummer. He got the job done, but I suppose when you're a drummer, you might hear drumming differently, which I guess is the case with you, Adami. As for the new album, holy shit is it awesome. I was afraid it might suck, but they're back on track, and not trying too hard like with the last album. I can't wait for part 2. Tired is my favorite as well.

Nothing "wrong" with him really. But he was by far the stiffest drummer I've heard. No groove what so ever, no interesting fills or beats, just the most basic stiff beats you can imagine. Every time I heard him play, it felt like he was struggling to do what he was doing (which happened to be beginner level stuff). However once they got Roy or Ray or whatever, it was a world of difference.
-
For me, after hearing Shannon Larkin on 3030-150, I wasn't impressed with RoyRay much at all, but on the new album, he's bloody brilliant.

Well I mean he's not like Neil Peart or anything. But given their music, he adds a great deal of spice to it.
And yea, he and Shannon are like drumming twins.
-
Corey Taylor knows how to write a solid hard rock song, I'll give him that.
-
It seems like I am the opposite of a few people on here. I love the first album to Death. CWEM had a couple good songs but really meh, Audio Secrecy sucked. But This....House of Gold and Bones Part 1, DAAAAAAAAMN. I was not expecting to enjoy this when I got the promo last week. Its very, VERY damn good. I actually literally just got done playing The Travelers on my show a couple minutes ago.
One of the best damn Hard Rock albums of the year!
-
Audio secrecy was a disappointment after the immensely enjoyable Come what(ever) may. But I'm really looking forward to their new album, being that the two singles kicked some serious ass. I'll try to give it a listen today.
-
Will give a more indepth listen tomorrow, but I liked the first song a lot! Never really felt very interested in this band but this is good stuff.
-
Audio Secrecy is by far my fav album from them, IMO it's incredible. Listening to the new album for the second time right now, it's pretty damn good.
-
I love Audio Secrecy and Come What(ever) May. I only got into the band a couple of years ago even though I was a Slipknot fan since I was 13, love Corey Taylor's vocie and Stone Sour's style of music matched my tastes more than Slipknot's did.
I love Audio Secrecy, it is (or was) my favourite album. I understand it has more accessible songs and soft ones but I have no problem with the fact that nearly every song has a chorus that is really meorable or catchy, and I enjoy most of the ballads. Come What(ever) May is close as it mabe has more of their very best songs like 30/30-150, Through Glass, Zzyzx Rd., but it has songs I find a lot less memorable than anything on Audio Secrecy.
-
Never dug the first album too much, Come What(ever) May was pretty good, but Audio Secrecy IMO is their finest album by far.....Miracles, Threadbare, Unfinished, all great songs. House pt. 1 is great too but it just pisses me off to no end that bands can't even release a fucking double album in 1 package anymore these days.
-
My only complaint with the new album would be that My Name Is Allen's verse melodies are the same as 3030-150's, and the pre choruses are the same style too. Other than that the album is awesome.

I concur with pretty much every word of both of these quotes.
I'm also really digging the new album.
-
From what I could remember from a few years back, they were never really my thing. I had Come What(ever) May and really only liked 30/30-150 for some reason. I gave it a spin today, and liked it quite a bit. I'll have to check out the new one, it seems.
-
New album ain't bad.
I like that it's more aggressive. But it really sounds like....Stone Sour just doing their thing. There wasn't a whole lot of new ground broken here.
-
Does there have to be new ground?
My motto is: "If it aint broke, don't fix it... Just don't be Disturbed"
-
New album is pretty good, I haven't really delved much into their stuff but definitely solid stuff. Really really liked The Travelers.
-

True. But a lot of this just sounded like ideas they've already covered.
-
I'm really enjoying this so far. :metal
-
Just had a listen to the new album. Pretty awesome stuff!
-
I've been hearing "Absolute Zero" on the radio lately. Definitely better than the previous singles I remember getting radio play in years past. I'm intrigued.
-
Really good new album, although I like Come what(ever) may the most....
-
Listening to the new album now. Gone Sovereign absolutely slays.
-
The new album is really boring so far IMO.
Every song just sounds like a reworking of a previous stone sour song.
-
I LOVE the new record. Stone Sour's finest. "Tired" is downright killer. Most cohesive record they've ever done. The concept is cool (from what I can tell so far), and there's no filler on this disc.
Corey Taylor was right, AIC's Dirt meets PF's The Wall on steroids.
Totally diggin' it.
Influence of a Drowsy God is awesome too.

I agree 100%

I didn't expect this album to grow on me this much, it might be even their best album so far, but we'll still see about that. I'm happy that most of the reviews I keep reading are very positive.
-
It deserves positive praise, it does indeed grow every listen.
-
Listening to the new album again today, really good stuff. Looking forward to part 2 in April. Any of you guys heard the new single, it's definitely more modern but the more I listen to it the more I like it. It's called Do Me A Favour.
-
I've only heard it once, and it didn't do all that much for me. I was actually disappointed. It certainly brought my hopes down for part 2.
-
I heard it and really dig it.....also, if the current track times on wikipedia are correct, pt. 2 is gonna be really proggy! 16 minute titletrack, hell yes!!
-
That sounds awesome if it's true.
-
Do Me A Favor is good, far from the best, but the last minute or so (A Rumor Of Skin reprise) is amazing.
The track times on Wikipedia look like times someone has just made up, to be honest... though I'll be pleased if they aren't.
-
I loved the new single, especially the last minute. What a great time to be a Stone Sour fan. :metal
-
Yeah Part 1 was really a sleeper hit for me. And it had me from the start too. Didn't have to "try" to like it at first.
-

Entirely possible they're legit, but the 16 minute long song is one of those five minute long songs with ten minutes of silence and a minute of violin or something at the end. :lol They seem too good to be true, though.

They probably are too good to be true.....but I can hope.
-
Ok, I listened to Do Me a Favor again, and it was way better than last time.
-
Just looked at the wikipedia track times. I find it hard to believe that part two will almost be twice as long as part one. Not to mention how unrealistic it sounds that Stone Sour would record a 16 minute long title track, I'm giving it 6 minutes in length tops. ;D
-
Yeah, I don't believe those times either.
EDIT: Track times have been taken off the site.
-
Kinda figured they would be.....I so wanted those lengthy songs.
-
Part 2 is now streaming! :metal
https://stonesour.com/albumstream
-
I'll wait until I pick it up on the weekend.
-
It's pretty good shit, bros.
-
Title track is bad ass. :metal
-
As are Black John, '82, Shine..... :metal
-
Red City, The Uncanny Valley, The Conflagration and the title track are standouts for me. I've said it before, it would've been even better if it were all released in one package.
-
Just made it through the part two for the second time, it's got some great ideas, but time will tell how it stands against part one.
My question is - can anyone lead me into the story? Both parts. I wonder if anyone got it or really paid attention to it, I'd like to get into what's going on.
-
If you buy the Pt. 1 CD, the first half of the story is in the booklet instead of the lyrics, I can only assume it'll be finished in the booklet for Pt. 2 lol
-
Dang, I completely forgot about it. :lol
-
Listened to the ablum a few times now and while it's not as easy to get into as Part 1 (and may not be quite as good ultimately, although it's hard to decide that after only a couple of days), I really like it.
'82, The Conflagration and Stalemate stand out the most right now.
-
Ok, I listened to Do Me a Favor again, and it was way better than last time.
On first listen it sounded like really generic glam metal :P
-
I never even bothered to read the story in the booklet. :lol
-
I never even bothered to read the story in the booklet. :lol
I read half of it and got bored.
As for Part 2, after one listen, Part 1 blows it away, but even after several listens, I can't see myself liking Part 2 as much as Part 1. It's just too damn good. Not to say Part 2 was a bad listen.
-
Yeah, I find myself coming back to part 1 quite a lot, really solid album. Will be hard to match it.
-
I know some will find this strange seeing how only several months have passed, but Part 1 is in my top ten albums of all time.
-

Wow, that's a big statement.
-
It's an amazing album, dude. I've recently discovered a band called Lorenguard who's first album is also in my top 10. My top ten is going to look a bit different in my second Top 50 list. It's rare to find albums that damn good nowadays.
-
Sadist is fucking amazing.
-
I know some will find this strange seeing how only several months have passed, but Part 1 is in my top ten albums of all time.
I don't find it strange, unlike most, I don't think you have to listen to an album dozens of times to know how much you like it. Some just have an immediate impact
-
:tup
-
I totally missed out on their latest albums. Enjoyed the s/t and Come Whatever May somewhat, but I didn't give Audio Secrecy a chance. I decided after the first two songs that I wasn't interested, and my feeling is that it's not a very big loss.
Part 2 of House of Gold and Bones I encountered on Spotify, and it really grabbed me. Red City is an amazing track. Then the rest of the album is awesome too? WTF?
I have two albums full of awesome music to discover!
-
Yeah House Of Gold & Bones is by far their best work. IMO, it's a modern day version of The Wall......bold statement I know, but I truly love this album.
-
Do Me A Favour is definitely 5th album material.
I can't listen to it as it reeks of " Hey, let's write a super catchy song ! "
It reminds me of the song you write at band practice and it's decent enough to carry on playing but not as great as
all your other songs. It just sounds really forced to me.
-
I love Audio Secrecy !
-
Audio Secrecy is crap. If anything, the songs are forced on that one, not HOGAB.
-
AS is alright. But it's crap compared to Gold & Bones.
-
I love Audio Secrecy !
Yep, it's my fav SS album.
-
Yeah, AS is great, don't know why people don't like it. My ranking from best to worst:
House Of Gold & Bones
Audio Secrecy
Come What(ever) May
Stone Sour
-
Listened to the new album once and it was okay. Seems like it's more of a grower than Part 1. The darker it is and the first few tracks really make me think that this would have been better released as a double cd.
-
Once you build the house of gold & bones, it does technically become a double CD. :neverusethis:
Part 2 is indeed a grower, but Part 1 just can't be touched. As a whole though, this is one monster album. Although, it's not without its flaws, which are only the minor re-use of past vocal melodies.
-
So you mean past vocal melodies from older albums or from part 1, because that is intentional.
-
Ranking the albums, huh?
House of Gold & Bones part 1
House of Gold & Bones part 2
Come What(ever) May
Stone Sour
Audio Secrecy
Yeah, I already put the new one above CWM, I like them pretty much the same, but I'm sure part two will be a massive grower, and one of the most played albums of the year.
-
Yeah playing part 2 again, and it still needs to grow a lot, but it's really quite awesome.
-
Yeah part 2 is really starting to hit me right.
Gravesend, man... Gravesend. :metal
Although, it's not without its flaws, which are only the minor re-use of past vocal melodies.
I assume you're not a Devin Townsend fan.
-
So you mean past vocal melodies from older albums or from part 1, because that is intentional.
Older albums, specifically CWEM.
Although, it's not without its flaws, which are only the minor re-use of past vocal melodies.
I assume you're not a Devin Townsend fan.
Oh man, if he does that all the time then I'll never be able to listen to him.
-
Older albums, specifically CWEM.
Care to elaborate?
-
My Name is Allen's pre chorus is the same as 30 30-150 and the verses also have the same melodies.
The title track has melodies from the title track of CWEM.
That's about it.
-
Part 2 is really growing on me. I find myself repeating it constantly the last few days, I think I may like it more than part 1.
-
Man, I can't stop listening to Part 2, IMO it slays part one. Album of the year so far.
-
I don't know which one is better now.
But god damn Gone Sovereign rips.
-
Wow
https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/has-guitarist-jim-root-been-fired-from-stone-sour/
-
God damnit. Stone Sour is a million times better than Slipknot. Fuck. Audio Secrecy finally clicked for me too. Only took 4 years... OK, 4 years of not listening to it and then finally giving it a chance, but anyway FUCK.
FUCK
-
Damn. I do not know anything about the song writing process of SS, but I hope this does not affect their quality. HOGAB is in my opinion a modern rock classic. Both albums are stellar and way better than anything Slipknot has done or the preceding SS albums (save for maybe Subliminal Verses). I was really surprised when I first listened HOGAB.
-
I love ALL Stone Sour albums and I too am hoping the song writing doesn't get affected by this.
-
I agree on all of this. I feel that Stone Sour has a sound that more tailored to me than Slipknot and if Jim Root was a huge integral part to the two House of Gold & Bones albums than this could bite Stone Sour's future albums.
-
Yeah IDK about this....but didn't Josh Rand write a lotta stuff?
And for the record - Stone Sour > Slipknot
-
I love both bands. Slipknot changed my life and Stone Sour has been quite present in my playlists during the last couple of years, so it's odd to see both of them changing some of the members I would consider important. But that's what happens, I hope Stone Sour will manage to move on successfully.
-
IMO, this is gonna hurt Stone Sour. They had a good thing going and they could have potentially just fucked it. I'm sure they'll recover, but it will cost them time.
-
Well, they've just released the best two albums of their career, so I don't think they could have improved on that anyway. It's kinda like Bill Bruford leaving Yes after Close to the edge.
-

I sort of meant in the respect of continually progressing and releasing quality material in a timely fashion.
-
I really only like Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero. I've tried others, but those are just too good.
-
Bumping. So I'm listening to Audio Secrecy, today. At first, I thought the songs sounded like standard radio rock. And then, the songs started going into corny ballads like Dying and Hesitate. They are not bad songs, in fact, I like them. I just did not think they do songs like that. Now the album is really kicking into sounding like the sound that I thoroughly enjoyed during the House of Gold and Bones albums.
It's all right of an album though. Liked Nylon 6/6, Miracles, The Bitter End, Imperfect, and Pieces. I will say that House of Gold and Bones Part II, to me, was the better album.
Oh, and in recent news, I hear they are doing a cover album. That's all right. Corey's got a decent voice that can cover a good amount of classics well.
-
AS is my fav SS album, I think it's amazing.
-
So the new Stone Sour album comes out this week and I don't care for any of the officially released songs. Song #3 is okay but is an average rocker song. Me thinks this is going to be a big regression from the House of Gold and Bones.
-

I agree. I listened to the 3 singles each once, and I thought they were very mediocre, nothing memorable. And Corey is talking this one up big time too.

Corey Taylor would talk up his piss big time if anyone ever asked him about it. He's a pinnacle of over hyping everything.
I don't expect this album to come anywhere near the two House of Gold and Bones, but I'm hoping for a solid album at least.
-
I learned a long time ago not to judge an album based on its singles (and I thought they at the very least decent). I still have relatively high hopes.
-
Listening to it now. So far pretty good.
-
I'm really looking forward to picking this up on the weekend.
-
The song titles on this one are so strange. Corey Taylor must've really been in the zone when he wrote the lyrics.
-
The song titles have me worried. I wasn't overly impressed with what I've heard so far, and these song titles almost make me not want to bother at all, but I'm curious and I really like this band.
