Or got involved with other online communities? I'm curious how these years/ages are distributed through the wide range of ages we have here.
I joined my first forum when I was 13 years old during the year of 2005. What about you guys?
-
DT.net back in 2000. Permanently joined this community in June 2006. Even at that point it was the first forum I posted at beyond a simple one-day "Hey, how bout this message board!" kinda thing where I thought a place was nifty but never thought to return.
-
I joined this obscure forum called Dream Theater Forums about 4 months ago. That's the only real forum I'm on.
EDIT: July 19, 2012, 05:42:16 PM to be exact.

The old Jerry Cantrell Forum, back in late 2002.

About 6 years ago I joined a metal forum (I don't even remember the name) but I didn't last long there. Then 2 years ago I came upon DTF and here I am

Anyway, I joined DTF early this year. That's it, I guess.

The first one I remember using regularly was a wrestling video game forum back in 1998 or 1999 when I would have been 13/14 ;D Used chat rooms a bit before that.
I'm still a regular (and a moderator :p ) on a football/soccer video game forum that I registered with in October 2002, so coming up for 10 years ago :omg:
-
I joined a forum for a young adult book series when I was twelve. Trust me, it was just as lame as it sounds.
-
I was on the xbox forums and on the ultimate-guitar forums, but I was never active on any of those.
-
I first discovered GameFAQS was 12 or so.
-
I was a pretty active GFAQs user when I was 10. Moved on to the Megadeth forum in 2006, and then found my permanent home here in 2008.
-
First checked out a forum after hearing my boss's stories of the VHforums. went to Yesfans, but they were boring, so iI came her. That was two years ago.

The first one I can remember was a forum for the band Sevendust, it was called Field of Solitude (it was a lyric from one of their most popular songs). It was 2005, and I was 15 at the time. My name was Crawlspace and it was a very welcoming community. I left cause I lost interest in the band, and I wasn't as ingrained into that community as I feel here.
-
1988 - The Inn Of The Last Home BBS (running Color64 on a Commadore 128)

Yeah, I consider usenet newsgroups the forerunners of today's forums, and dialup bulletin boards before them.
I was on bulletin boards sometime between 1986 and 1989. That's when I was working in a computer lab at the community college. It was probably 1987 or 1988. Spring of 1989 is when I graduated, and I did my student teaching prior to that and had no free time, so 1988 at the latest.

How the fuck were you lucky enough to get that name? Was their user base like only 10 people?
-
:lol I have no idea. There was a pretty sizable community and people were using derivatives of it by the time I arrived. I guess people figured it would be the first to go, so they didn't pick it.
-
About ten years ago, to discuss Train of Thought.
This is the only forum I frequent, I don't post nearly as much as I once did.
-
Jan 2005, dt.net. It was also when I first got an email address, because I needed one to sign up. :lol

I used to be pretty popular on the Guitar Hero Forums about 5 years ago. Then when the game died I joined the Rock Band forums. I have never seen so many douchebags on an internet forums before...
Then I joined here back in February of 2011. I love this place :heart

The Underground BBS in the fall of 1985......
-
Winner.
I had a friend who had a modem and posted on bulletin boards, but I don't think I ever posted. I just hung out in his room sometimes when he was on. It was pretty cool stuff.
-
Probably when I was 8-ish... so in like 2002..
-
Mine was Toolnavy, in,05 then shortly after 8vm was released joined DT.net and been coming here more since, because its one of the best communities I've encountered on forums.
-
Back in 2005, I joined my first forum which is Studio Forum - a swedish musician forum. I think I lurked some forums before then...

HOLY SHIT. You made that?
I discovered that video when I still lived with my parents, probably 2.5 years ago, way before I joined this forum. I never knew that was you who made it. Awesome!
-
First real forum? Probably the mikeportnoy.com forum in late 1999. Before that I was on the ytsejam mailing list for a couple of years.
-
1998 I think. Could have been earlier.
My main forums were the unofficial Offspring forum, the Disturbed forum, and then DT.net-DTF.org
-
Around 2000 or so, got an EZ Board account and went to town, never looked back.
