Any fans of these guys? Made a thread as I've been spinning the new one for the last couple of days. Really solid album all round, and the covers are a great touch, especially Powerslave.
The Dark Roots of Earth

2. "Native Blood"
3. "Dark Roots of Earth"
4. "True American Hate"
5. "A Day in the Death"

8. "Throne of Thorns"

The new album is excellent. Chuck Billy is a beast.
-
The new album owns hard. The New Order will always be their crowning achievement, but the recent output has been great.
-
The New Order is definitely one of their best, some days that might be my fav, but other days it might be Practice What You Preach. I'm not familiar with every single song or album from this band, so I should do something about that. The last album was decent too.
-
Practice is...I don't know. It feels a little too "safe", for whatever reason. I love the shit out of the first two though. PWYP seems oversimplified, and Alex's solos don't have the same awesome vibe as they have on New Order. Seriously, every guitar player in the world should be forced to listen to Hypnosis. THAT is how you build a guitar solo.

Loving this album! And the artwork is gorgeous!

The loudest band I've ever seen live no question
-
Moderate fan. Spun the new record last night. Nothing jumped out at me immediately. I get the sense that it isn't half as strong as Formation of Damnation. Perhaps a few more listens will help it sink in.
As for the material I like, for me, it's all about Low and beyond. I really wasn't crazy about the production of the early albums (plus the best songs got properly redone for First Strike Still Deadly). While not much of a death metal guy, I think Demonic is pretty wicked. The Gathering is, of course, also quite nasty.

That would be Man0waR for me- I was deaf for a week afterwards.
This album rocks. I've never been a Thrash or Testament fan- never really listened to them. Gave this one a chance and glad I did.
-
This album is really great, digging it more and more everytime I listen. The only thing is that I'm not overly excited with the first track, I don't really like how they basically wrote it purly for a live purpose, but it's still decent.

Testaments Native Blood won the American Indian Film Institutes Award for Best Music Video.
-
Cool stuff. Also, their version of Powerslave is fucking incredible.
-
Throne Of Thorns might just be my Track Of The Year.
-
I had another listen to The Gathering last night. Such an amazing album.
-
I haven't listened to the new album much at all. Rise Up just absolutely kills it for me, and it's really only because of the lyrics. It's a damn shame too, because I love their first two albums. I feel like they kind of lost it with Practice What You Preach though, and never really got it back. The Gathering is still pretty great though.
-
I only love their ballads and they are very good at making ballads.
-
Testament apparently cancelled, according to our venues website. Good thing is Overkill are continuing on and headlining with local bands opening....lucky local bands

New Song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeIgFsU0x4I)
On first listen, I like what I hear. It wouldn't sound out of place on Dark Roots of Earth. My largest worry at this point is that it may be too similar to that album. Each Testament record tends to have its own identity, so I don't think that will be an issue. Either way, Brotherhood of the Snake is my second most anticipated album releasing before the end of the year.

Cool song! :metal

Awesome song :metal

WOW! :metal

Solid song. Has a nice classic metal feel in there too.

Just heard the new song. Holy shit these guys never get old. This kicks all kinds of ass. :2metal:

I really like the aggressiveness. But I don't find it to be a very interesting song. And, yes, I am a fan. This just doesn't do much for me. These guys have written some fantastic tunes over the years, but they are pretty hit and miss for me. I think this one goes in the "miss" column.
-
Two listens under my belt, and I can safely say that the new album kicks ass. :metal
My initial favorite track is Neptune's Spear. There isn't much that separates Brotherhood from their past two albums, but I love this style of metal, so I'm happy with it.
-
Wasn't overly impressed on my first listen, but it's getting better with each listen, good album.

Gene Hogland out!

That sucks. No Paul Bostaph please. The dream would be to pull Lombardo in again.

Why not Paul Bostaph? He's available isn't he?
-
That does suck indeed.
-
Goin to the show in May. Should be killer. :metal
Sucks about the Atomic Clock. But I get it. Makes sense.

Bostaph is a super sloppy player, in my opinion. Never cared for him. His work in Slayer always bugged me, especially when comparing him to Lombardo.

Found the thread. As I mentioned in the Thrash thread, my dream came true.

Nice!!! I couldn’t find it to share the news of Lombardo rejoining the band.
-
I love it - it's The Gathering lineup, but with Alex instead of James Murphy. Makes me wish I was going to the Bay Strikes Back tour that's coming up.
:metal :metal :metal
Edit - just saw this on Blabbermouth where Dave and Chuck elaborated on how Dave rejoined the band. Prior to the pandemic, there was talk about having Dave back to play The Gathering in a reunion tour, but they didn't want to just kick Gene out of the band for no reason. So it's looking likely that Testament may go out and play The Gathering in full sometime.
https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/dave-lombardo-says-it-felt-like-the-right-moment-for-him-to-return-to-testament/?fbclid=IwAR02cVxPdZM-8EY8g3mTCV_pU6GfDm413qnswSvgu9JstW5rB_C_Ly8Gqks
Chuck said that he was surprised to hear from Dave so quickly after TESTAMENT made the news of its split with Gene public.
"Right when it happened, it was within minutes after the announcement," Billy recalled. "And Dave doesn't remember, but [his text message to me was] simply 'Lombardo?' That was the text. I'm, like, 'You're shitting me. Tiffany, Lombardo just wrote me, 'Lombardo?'' I called him right away. I said, 'Hey, dude, what's happening?' He was, like, 'Dude, I heard the news.' I'm, like, 'Dude, I would have called you right away, but I just thought it was kind of far-fetched for you to kind of jam because I know you're probably pretty busy with all the other projects going on.' And he was, like, 'No. I've got a big opening and I'd love to get back.' And we talked about 'The Gathering', doing that again. And here we are — it could be a reality to get to play 'The Gathering' like we spoke of."
If that happens, there is no way I'd miss that show!

Ha! I don't have much time for this kind of thing these days but I'd go see Testament with Dave Lombardo for sure. That'd be a great night out!
