I made this thread because this band has recently released their debut album and because it's been in my CD player basically all week. This is some fantastic progressive metal that I believe no-one should overlooking. Featuring Damian Wilson on vocals and Adam Wakeman (yes, that's his son) on keyboards, this band lays down a fantastic sound on one hell of an album.
This is my main contender for the album of the year and I'm going to see them at least once this year and I'm already looking forward to that. So far my favourite tracks will have to be the first two - Stalled Armageddon and Fall of America - and the sixth, the longest track, called Daddy Fucking Loves You (now, that's some odd track naming on a prog/metal record!)
Anyway, start appreciating this masterpiece! :)

Track listing:
1. Stalled Armageddon - 8:06
2. Fall of America - 10:28
3. Die With a Bullet - 3:44
4. Soldier - 8:25
5. In Hell's Name - 9:31
6. Daddy Fucking Loves You - 15:00
7. Invasion - 8:28
8. The Big Day - 9:55

This CD is next on my "must check out" list. I've seen it referenced a few times recently.

Yes, do get it. It's amazing :)
In fact, I think I'll give it a spin today again.
-
This album is all kinds of awesome. My highest recommendation :hat

Damn.... that sounds good enough to me. $7 on iTunes and Amazon.
-
That's where I got it: Amazon
-
Do it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this album.
-
I'll take it a step further than that and say not only is there nothing wrong with it, but it's killer. I had no idea the keys were done my Rick Wakeman's kid. That's pretty damn cool.
All of the instrumentation is awesome, and it's very progressive. Right now it's in my top 5 contenders for AOTY
-
Giving this a try right now. Will report further as events warrant...
Andddd...buying it based on Stalled Armageddon alone. DAMN. :metal
-
Did you say Damian Wilson!?! Will order this immediately tonight, I'm sure it's quality.
-
Damian Wilson was the hook for me, but everything about it is awesome. Fantastic prog metal album, likely to be in my year end top ten.
-

Yeah, he shines on the album, though all the rest of the band do a fantastic job as well.
-
Got this in last week, but have sadly only had about 3 chances to listen to it thus far. Definitely looking forward to more.
-
Anyone else think Daddy Fucking Loves You is an amazing track?
-
YES!! (https://www.kirksnosehair.com/Portals/0/images/smilies/headbanger.gif)
The whole album is really good, but that is THE stand-out track for me!
-
Anyone else think Daddy Fucking Loves You is an amazing track?
Best song on the album. I played it three times straight on my first listen through. :metal
-
Agreed, the melody in the opening section is so incredibly awesome :hat
Been stuck in my head for days
-
The opening two minutes are simply beautiful. I had many ideas of what a song called Daddy Fucking Loves You could sound like, and that opening was NOWHERE in my thoughts at all. :lol
-
This album is growing on every listen.
Fall of America is best them I think.

Yep, when I saw the name of the track, I was like  But when I heard it, I was like :eek
-
OK, I just ordered the mp3 Download from Amazon. Only $6.99!

Indeed, if I have a criticism of the album, it's that I don't see why the song is actually CALLED that. It's like edgy for no particular reason, lol. Doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the album, which right now sits only behind the new Ihsahn on my year to date list. But it is a silly title.

I generally have a hard time figuring out what the lyrics are supposed to mean. The band likes to brag about the deep and meaningful concept of the album in the commentary videos, but I have a hard time deciphering the lyrics.
-
OK, so I took a brief Maiden break today to listen to DFLY.
Holy. Shit.

Yay, more fans. :)
-
Found this in a FB group, and of course DTF was on top of it all ready. Purchased.
-
Not really getting into the album as much as I thought I would. The song structures kind of bored me and some of the lyrics didn't fit the best to the music. Certainly will give it a few more spins, but overall I didn't find it that impressive. Maybe part of it was discovering the phenomenal Beyond the Bridge a few weeks earlier and the inevitable let down from any other 2012 releases that followed.:)

Just finished my first listen through. Really impressive, lots of variation and direction, I love it.
-
Yeah, it's a stunning album :metal
-
Wow what an amazing album! Great compositions, amazing vocals and awesome musicianship!
It was a great surprise to me, since i rarely like any prog bands besides DT, but i really enjoyed this album!
-
I'll have to check this out then :tup

This. The song is awesome.

Holy smokes this is such a great album. Definetely contender of progrock album of the year.

Holy smokes this is such a great album. Definetely contender of progrock album of the year.
Yeah, it's up there. This has been an unreal year of releases.
-
This has been knocked down a couple of spots by some recent releases, but it's still likely to land in my year end top 5. Just a brilliant progressive rock/metal album. :metal
-
Gave it a listen today. I love Damian Wilson's voice, but I think it needs some time. It wasn't doing anything particularly mind-blowing on my first listen.
-

That's how it was for me... and then it just got better every single listen.
-
Wilson's voice is somewhat like it or hate it, but he's managed to really display his diversity on this one.
I also admire the lyrical content, is has a depth to it you seldom hear anymore. '...and the moment it started, I lost hope'. It just breathes an ominous feeling from the start and rather dealing with the violent acts itself, focusses on the human side of living in a warlike enviroment. And the beginning of the last song The big day is breathtaking, vocally. I'm seeing them live on 4-9, btw. :metal
-
Finally got this in the mail today and listening for the first time. Really loving it so far, and I haven't even hit Daddy Fucking Loves You yet.
-
Awesome!
-
I have the one track off of IO's digital sampler...when it came on yesterday I had to stop what I was doing to see who it was...it's really good! :tup
-
Tonight!
Haken + Headspace co-headlining show. Oh, I'm going tomorrow as well.
Booyah, twice in two days! :metal

:evilmonkey:
Jealous as fucking hell.

Booyah, twice in two days! :metal
Nice! Where is this happening?
-
They're doing a small tour through Europe together. I'm catching them at both dates in the Netherlands.
First one was fucking awesome, Haken played Visions in full and Headspace played I am Anonymous in full. I'm expecting the exact same setlists tomorrow though. I had a chat with the Haken guys once again and talked a bit to the guys from Headspace, got my CD signed and stuff. I actually only just got home at 1:30 am.
-
Lucky you for getting two concerts. My country is ignored altogether.
-
I´ll be there tonight as well :metal
-
Lucky guys, I'd love to see this tour. Haken and Headspace are two of my favorite prog metal finds of the last few years. Great bands. :metal
-
Yeah, tonight was awesome again. Same set, but better sound, bigger venue. More!
-
Both bands blew me away...whew!! :o
-
Oh my God what the hell is this. I've heard Daddy Fucking Loves You on Nick's radio show and figured "oh yeah, this is kind of nice". But the entire album is. Uhm. I'm not good with words when it comes to music (ironic for someone who's supposed to review shit, right?).
GNNNNHHHHH RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH GOOOOOOD. This man's voice. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

As I said in chat the other week, Damian/Wakeman own this album.
-
They do, but the rest of the band is definitely not to be underestimated either.
-
Right. I think I´m ready to do a little live review of this gig. Now, going into this, I was only familliar with the Headspace album.
Haken I hadn´t heard. I thought, well, Haken are probably the headline act, So I´ll just watch Headspace and then split.
Boy was I wrong. Haken was first on the bill and they utterly, and totally blew me away technically, melodywise and soundwise. Every single musician was on top of his game here, especially the drummer, both guitarists and keyboardist.
Big, lush arrangements on the songs, with a great singer who more than holds his own live. Definetely going to check out their both cd´s Special mention goes out to the keyboardplayer for his Super Mario break in one of the songs...you must hear it to believe it!
Headspace had some startup problems soundwise, but absolutely proved to be able to perform their album ´I am anonymous´ in a live setting. Wilson owns the stage from the moment he sets foot on it. He captivates his audiance and proves once again, to be one of the finest lead vocalists out there in Progland. He´s able to do it all, powerhouse as well as making the athmosphere very intimate with little jokes here and there. There was even a small blind girl at the front of the stage totally enjoying the show.... The entire band just played out of their skins and I predict a bright future for this band if they should continue and record a next release. :metal :metal :metal 3 Shouts from me!
-
Cool review!
With regards to the bands; the Headspace guys (well actually just Adam Wakeman, who is an awesome dude to talk to!) told me they were already working on their next release, probably to be released in September next year. How or what it's going to be is difficult to tell, because all the guys in the band have other stuff going on as well and they can't really make Headspace their top priority (with for instance Wakeman also playing for Ozzy), but they love working together and playing music together, so something will come most likely.
The Haken dudes were very content with their shows and their tour and Ross Jennings (the singer) told me they would like to record a live album sometime in the future. I can't remember now whether he said something about a new album, but I believe he did. Same thing, expect something next year.
-
RE: Haken - They're doing another album, already working on it. I know their producer. I might even be working with him in the near future on something.
-
I thought so, it just didn't stick in my mind for some reason. Thanks! :tup

A bit off-topic: Haken's new album is no secret, they talked about it openly in interviews. Richard Henshall said a few months ago that he already had a lot of raw material written, even too much for an album.
-
Headspace has started writing for their second album. :woot:
-
YES! :squee:
-
Spun this album at the gym recently after taking a break from it for a couple of months. It still sounds great. Can't wait to hear what they do next :metal
-
Awesome :metal
Good luck topping Daddy Fucking Loves You, the best song with a silly title ever, though. That's a genuine classic!
-
I remember seeing the track list for this album for the first time and thinking someone had made a mistake. I mean, who gives a title like that to a song? :rollin
-
Headspace has started writing for their second album. :woot:
This is great news.
-
Saw this on FaceBook earlier:
HEADSPACE NEWS - COMING MONDAY 5th AUGUST 2013.
Put aside 8mins and 24 seconds of your time.....
New song, perhaps?
-
That would be awesome! :)
-
I still haven't heard the first album. :lol I just subscribe to pretty much every band I've ever heard of on FaceBook. :lol
-
MONDAY, COME TO ME.
-
I still haven't heard the first album. :lol
Make damn sure you do so before Monday.
-
YESSIR
-
Isn't the new Haken song scheduled for Monday as well? This is going to be an interesting week.
-
Looking forward to this. The debut album was a nice effort. They showed a lot of potential, now I'm hoping it is realized in their next release.

Suppose I shouldn't have assumed it would be something new.
-
Wow, that totally sucks. At least Haken and DT both come out today.
-
Well, for me it's a new song anyway, as I don't recall ever listening to it (even though I know for certain that I did, when I listened to the album upon its release).
It's kind of good, yeah :)

Adam and Damian being very serious in the studio:

I'm sure Cyclops won't mind me sharing his message:
From Facebook:
HEADSPACE, the band featuring Damian Wilson, Adam Wakeman, Lee Pomeroy & Pete Rinaldi, have announced they will release their long-awaited new album 'All That You Fear Is Gone' on the 26th February 2016.
They have also announced new drummer Adam Falkner has joined their ranks, and Adam had this to say:
"This album is the first to debut new Drummer Adam Falkner whom Pete Rinaldi and I have toured with a lot in the past. He's a superb player and he really fits with the band's sound and style. He also gets a round in, which is a plus."
Damian Wilson comments on the new album:
"The conforming individual represented in the first album that breaks away, is reflected in All That You Fear Is Gone. Free thinking, fighting against natural grouping, what appears as destructive rebellion is in fact evolution. Written to make the listener think, whilst capturing the ear with complexity and simplicity combined.
Embarking on the second Headspace album I personally had a clear vision, but by the time each band member had thrown in their piece, I thought we had produced an album that was unlistenable to. As it progressed, the rough edges and corners seemed to settle like a good lasagne. Everyone has their own tastes, but I know this is a bloody good lasagne.”
New album next year!!! :D
-
I'm looking forward to this. One of the better discoveries in my roulette, this band.
-
I love lasagna :tup
Seriously though, this is right up there with Steven Wilson's EP and The Astonishing. I'm not sure what else is going to be coming out early next year, but that's a strong trio to start it off.
-
I would say I'm most excited about these early 2016 releases in order:
Avantasia -> Steven Wilson's EP -> Dream Theater -> Primal Fear -> Headspace
No shame being the last in such a crowd.
-

Daddy Fucking Loves You

Oh. Hell. Yeah.
-
Welcome to bonerville. Population-me
-
Cool stuff. Looking back at earlier posts, looks like they've been working on this for quite a long time, so it should be interesting!
-
Had no idea they had a new album coming out soon! Listening to Stalled Armageddon right now. :metal
-
Just looked this up on Amazon and they have the release date as 2/26, same day as the new Redemption!!
-
Did anyone here participate on Damian and Adam's Kickstarter projects?
I got the download from the acoustic album by Adam and Damian and it's absolutely beautiful.
-
No, but I love the samples. Looking forward to this one.

The Damian/Adam album is on Deezer (music service), so I assume it is on Spotify as well. I really like it! Will buy it in the future.

New track from the upcoming album:

I really like it. Particularly that part starting around the two minute mark. Damian sounds great, though that's nothing new.
Hyped :tup :tup
-
^ That was as good as (if not better than) anything from the first album. I'm very excited about this.
-
Better than, Daddy Fucking Loves You?
It's a great song, no doubt, and if the album stays consistently at that level I think it will be just as good if not better than the first, but as far as individual songs go this one is going up against some really stiff competition. I'm just nitpicking though.
This is going to be right up there with Circus Maximus and Avantasia for best prog metal release of the year, I think.
-
I'm not all 'gaga' over DFLY the way most are.
:dunno:
-
while good, it's also not my favorite song on the album
-
New song is really awesome! Pumped for this album.
-

Agreed. I love the way the song flows quite organically.
-
Hate to be the buzzkiller here, but it's probably not much of an opinion anyways, I've heard the first album once or twice and remember really liking it (though I don't remember any particular parts of it), so I was going to come back to it at some point anyway. I don't like this song as much as the things I heard off I Am Anonymous. I'm very much into the second half of the song though, first half isn't doing it for me yet. Hope I can jump onto the hype train sooner or later.

Ok so i had the promo for a bit now, i've listened to it 5 times or so.
Let's just say, it's not only better than the first one, it's seriously one of the best prog metal albums i've heard in the past 5 years. Such an improvement over the last record, with a great variety and very interesting orchestrations.
-
I'm working on a full review, the first draft of which I hope to have done tomorrow. That said, I really enjoy it, but have not been blown away to the degree you were. To a certain degree I feel the "IT" factor the first album had just isn't as prominent on this album.
-
I have the promo copy as well, and after two listens I am certain their first will be remembered as the better album. New one isn't bad by any stretch, but I Am Anonymous is spectacular, and the new one is just a solid release.
I'll join jingle and go on the record of saying DFLY isn't even a top 3 song on that album IMO.

Quintessential Progressive Metal epic, for me, but it says a lot about the strength of the album as a whole that y'all wouldn't put in in the top, and I can definitely get behind that.
It's probably best to read some of the comments above now, so that I can temper my expectations. I Am Anonymous was a complete surprise for me (not following any of these individual artists all that much) and that made it all the more potent. It's rarely a good idea for me to hype an album up based on a single and previous album, so I'll dull the hype and instead remain cautiously optimistic :D

Nice! Very much looking forward to this one later this month.

I need to listen to this. I've got a promo, but with the new DT and Primal Fear I didn't have time for this album and the new Serenity too.
The review is nice indeed.

Nice, I grabbed it too though neither of us gets to review the album, sadly!
I've only managed one listen so far, but I'm digging it a lot. No idea at this stage how it compares to the debut - that one was a real grower for me as I wasn't that impressed first time around.
And very nice WPAPU review. Though my favourite thing about it was that it was written by "Nick/Mason". :lol You two were clearly destined to work together on a prog website.

Finally listened to the promo, and I'm gonna go against the grain and say I like it better than I Am Anonymous. Been on constant play for a few days now, and the title track is just stunning. Damian kills it beginning to end.

:caffeine:
-
It took a couple of listens for it to sink in properly, but yeah it's a damn good album. I'd probably put it roughly on a par with IAA.
-
:caffeine:
In this situation, I think we need a caffeine emote that pisses himself....
-
:splooge:
:| I is disappoint there is no emote for that code.
-
Looking forward to checking it out.

No comments since the official release?
I've only listened to it all the way through 4 or 5 times, which is good but I'm still waiting for a bit more. So far I'm not sure I'd put it quite on the same level as IAA, but it has some really great parts/songs. One thing that sticks out to me is the 72 minute length; I just don't think it needs to be that long. I don't think my attention span has gotten any shorter, but I still think 40-60 minutes is the ideal length for an album and that if it's going to be longer it needs to be without any filler. Really hard to achieve, and that's not to say that I think there is a lot of filler on this album, but I do feel like a couple parts could've been trimmed more.
-
I have yet to hear it, but just found out it's on Spotify. I'll probably listen to it tonight.
-
I've given it a couple of spins. Enjoying it. I wasn't all gaga over IAA the way a lot were, and I'm getting the same vibes here. Very enjoyable, but easy to get lost in the midst of all the fantastic music. We'll see. I'll give it a few more spins over the next few weeks.
-
Will probably get to this Wednesday.
Interesting note about the length of albums being best around 40-60 minutes. I'm in the process of trimming the fat of music collection and removing songs I don't like from my phone. I'm finding that even the great albums have no more than 8-10 songs and last no more than 40-60 minutes.
-
Well, I've had a reviewers copy for over a month, so I've been listening to the new Redemption. I still stand by what I wrote in my review for Nick. And unlike one review I saw, you can read mine and Nick's review in 5 minutes and get a sense of what is going on. I'm not joking when I say I saw a review that probably takes longer to read than it does to listen to the entire album.

Was that Andrew's one for LOMM? It was bonkers. :lol
-
As I listened to the album, I was surprised how much the singer sounded like the guy from Threshold. Now I also see that he sounded similar on IAA in retrospect but I never connected the sound with Threshold.
Today I saw the video for "The Science within us"...... OMFG... It's the same vocalist... I didn't notice for three years... :blush
-
OMFG... It's the same vocalist... I didn't notice for three years... :blush
:lol
-
To be fair, Threshold has had 3 singers, and Damien Wilson has only been the main singer for the first album in 1990 and the two most recent ones.
Rich - that was the one I was referencing. I don't know how seriously anyone could take a review like that. I've seen less intense Dream Theater fan fiction, and we all know how crazy those people are.
-
I'm digging the new album. Don't love it, but it's pretty solid.
-
Oh man, thought this was going to release later this month! I see it is up on Deezer, will check it out as soon as I have a nice silent evening on my own ;D

Hahaha yes. I tried to read it but I gave up somewhere on the third paragraph. :lol
I like this album quite a bit. Nothing mindblowing, but really good stuff. Will probably grab the physical copy if it appears in the record store.

I think I still prefer the debut, while good this is not an album I'll come back to often.

I feel pretty much the same. A whole bunch of good material here surrounded by about 20 minutes of stuff I could do without.

I think it´s very good, just have to digest it a little longer to be able to give a more in depth opinion.

I think I rate this just below I am Anonymous. But just. Fantastic musicianship. Hope they do a tour with this soon.

I listened to ATYFIG a few days ago. Not as good as the first, but still great IMO.

A rare Headspace bootleg from last month.

Spinning both Headspace album. Hope they record a third one. The Wilson Wakeman duo has been very productive (acoustic and piano records) and hope they keep their heavy side alive.

I don't know how far along it is or what a reasonable timeframe for release is, but I know a third album is being worked on.

That's awesome news. Even though All That You Fear is Gone was not as good as I Am Anonymous, very excited about the 3rd album. Hopefully it will come out sooner than later.

I Am Anonymous is a beast of an album. There was a thread at the old MP site that asked about albums over 60 minutes with no filler or something like that. I nominated that album. Solid from beginning to end.

Bumping this thread because I revisited I Am Anonymous and I still got blown away. Actually enjoyed it more than when it was released. Heck of an album!

I saw this thread was active and thought there were finally some updates on that 3rd album. I guess there won't be one?

So I actually can remember exactly where my comment from 2020 came from. After the Haken/Devin gig in Philly me and a bunch of the Haken guys went to a local place for food, and Charlie was texting with Pete Rinaldi (who filled in on bass for Haken) and was talking about working on the 3rd Headspace album. Of course that was right before the pandemic hit, and it wasn't the most active band to begin with. So it certainly could be easily delayed, and who knows, it may never happen, but I can say with certainty that a third album WAS being worked on at that point.
