I'm not going to this concert (going to the Cleveland one), and apparently no one else is from here either :lol
We need a setlist reporter for tonight (which I may or may not be checking)!
-
My brother and I are going, so we'll try to remember the set for you.
-
I'm going too, but no smartphone - I'll be putting them in a note on my dumbphone tho, will check back after.
Just got home from the meet&greet at HOG, JP's the man.
-
Awesome! Can't wait to meet him myself in 6 days at the Cleveland concert. Enjoy the concert (but don't forget to post the setlist when you get home haha :D)!
:metal
-
I'm surprised more people aren't active on here, hopefully the show has a crowd :-\
-
I REALLY hope they play something new from Train of Thought, you know they already played As I Am and Endless Sacrifice and I would love to see SoC back or even In the name of god :D
-
I'm surprised more people aren't active on here, hopefully the show has a crowd :-\
It will. Dream Theater has its casual fans as well, believe it or not, that don't go on the forums at all but still buy the new releases and go to the shows.

Exactly, apparently i'm the only forumer going the El Paso show as nobody replied to that thread.
-
What time does the show start?
I need to know when to begin obsessively refreshing this page.

I need to know when to begin obsessively refreshing this page.
It depends, I saw them in Pompano Beach last october and the opening act was Trivium, so they started on the time Dream Theater was scheduled to and DT started like an hour and a half later
-
How do you think things are going in Rochester?
-
Hopefully we get a setlist soon... theres nobody posting in the Rochester thread
-
I want a setlist :lol
-
Me too. I originally considered flying to this show just to be (potentially) see Lost Not Forgotten in its first live run . . . but changed my mind when I heard about the DVD. I mapped out the airport/hotel/venue and was very close to pulling the trigger -- in that event I would be posting songs now.

dream is collapsing intro
bridges in the sky
6:00
dark eternal night
this is the life
lost not forgotten
fortune in lies!!!!
wait for sleep
surrounded
on the backs of angels with interlude
war inside my head
the test that stumped them all
JR/JP interlude into
the spirit carries on
breaking all illusions
enc: metropolis pt1
I think I missed a song, someone help me out on that, between this is the life and fortune in lies
crowd sucked, crossed arms - wtf!
saw JMX walking to buses, told him they slayed... he said thanks to me TWICE!!!!
opening band dark day sunday, pretty freaking awesome thrash. again, crowd sucked.
-
Hmm, after all that hoopla about Lost Not Forgotten, it doesn't appear.
Nice set though. Thank God BITS is still the opener
-
Not that I don't trust you zipporaid, but setlist.fm is reporting the following:
Dream is Collapsing (Hanz Zimmer)
Bridges in the Sky
6:00
The Dark Eternal Night
This is the Life
The Root of All Evil
Lost Not Forgotten
A Fortune in Lies
War Inside My Head
The Test that Stumped Them All
On the Backs of Angels
The Spirit Carries On
Breaking All Illusions
Encore:
Metropolis Pt. 1
And regarding the DT crowd crossing their arms, that is every DT show :lol
-
THIS IS THE LIFE!!!
Looks like we'll have every song on the album played live on this tour! :metal
Now I'm hoping more and more for a multi-show live CD that comprises all the new songs, and all the songs that haven't been released on a live album yet!
-Marc.
-
So, I'm guessing the B set will have Outcry, and maybe BMUBMD swapped with OTBOA.
-
this show was fucking killer. the crowd (like most NA DT shows)
was pretty lame, but I was rocking it with my old self.
fortune in lies i was insane over.
-
So Zippo, is the setlist.fm set correct, or is yours? Was Root of All Evil played?
-
And LNF
-
was surrounded played or not?
-
I'm not sure, I was pretty drunk on $10 long island iced teas. I put a note in my phone
bridges 600 dark eternal titl (notsure) LNF fortune wfs
surround otboa (interlude during) warinhead ttsta
(jr jp interlude into) tsco bai (enc)met1
i'm hoping someone can verify besides setlist.fm.
I'm pretty fucking sure I heard surrounded.
I apologize, but I think me and like 5 other people came to rock.
I wasn't even like annoying drunk, just lubricated to the point
of really digging the show :)
-
Ok, so Lost Not Forgotten was definitely played. Perhaps the song you weren't sure of was TROAE. That leaves a discrepancy of whether WFS/Surrounded were played or not.
-
Hahaha thanks dude

The set is missing the soft/short number, which was either "Far From Heaven" or "Wait For Sleep". Hmmm....
-Marc.
-
And no drum solo?
-
far from heaven was NOT played, no drum solo, but a cool jammy interlude during OTBOA with all instrumentalists
and the improv before TSCO, JR / JP
-
*quietly stands up*
I sit at DT shows....
-
crowd sucked, crossed arms - wtf!
Welcome to America.
-
IDK when I was a kid I used to mosh and crowdsurf. some of these 18-25 yo's should be ashamed.
-
I'm satisfied...though I didn't get to hear Outcry or Beneath the Surface in Chicago last time so i would love to hear that.
Could do without the Six Degrees songs but love that Root of All Evil and 6:00 are in there.
-
kinda disappointed by tden and war/test, but since ive never seen them before ill enjoy them. curious what the B set will be, lucky enough to go to both this tour \m/
-
NOTE: The interlude in OTBOA was not planned (at least it wasn't supposed to be so long). John Petrucci's guitar was not working so they improvised and JR and MM did a mellow jam. It was beautiful!!!
EDIT: To clarify, SURROUNDED was played tonight.
-
Edit the thread title to 2012-06-15 - Main Street Armory - Rochester, NY or cyberdrummer will spank us all.
EDIT: Oh wait there's already a thread for that, he's gonna spank you for sure :lol
-
Nice set list.
-
BITS remains, LNF and TITL added, TDEN stays. I'd call that a great setlist. :hat

Adding up the track times in my head, with estimates, that looks like a 110 minute set! AWESOME!

Me too.
Nice setlist, by the way.

I managed to restrain myself.
-
Hope they swap out TDEN on the B set, cuz I don't want to listen to it 3 consecutive nights in a row. Same for War/Test, but I think the couplet will remain firm in both setlists.
-
Not a big fan of TDEN, FIL, TTSTA or WIMH. I'm sure they will be ok when I'm standing in the 8th row watching. Hope they dont show the animated video for TDEN. I never liked that. They cant please us all and I'm sure we will like the show no matter what they play!
-

LOL I didn't notice that part of it. It was really great - were you close enough to see what happened?
It was absolutely seamless, and I was near a tall guy that obscured JP sometimes...
Thanks for confirming surrounded, I went to bed last night thinking I was crazy because people put stuff
on setlist.fm and didn't have a couple songs I remembered.
-
Wow, an impromptu jam... Would have loved to hear it! Did you see many cameras/cellphones shooting videos?
-
there was a decent amount, but I didn't see anyone doing it for more than 1min or so...
-
Yeah, I am also wondering how security is this time around.
-
I never saw anyone make an effort to stop the process.
-
I really hope Metropolis sticks.
-
Waiting for some footage on YT
Me too. It seems a lot of people upload their videos the next day after the show, rather than trying to do it the same night after getting back from the show. Understandable, but I'm impatient!

I'm quite concerned, actually. The last half of the past US leg and the first half of the Asian Leg are completely missing on youtube (and I checked everyday at the time of the shows). I hope this doesn't happen again...
-
I will say, unfortunately, that the email I received containing my itinerary for the Cleveland concert Meet and Greet said, "Absolutely NO cameras of any kind, including cell phone cameras, at the meet and greet AND concert."
:tdwn
Also, someone changed setlist.fm and said they did not play Wait For Sleep.
-
anyone have the setlist for the Crimson Projekct?

You can't take a pic with the band anymore?
-
No, you do get the picture with the band, but they take it. You aren't allowed, for example, to take video or pictures while in line or getting items signed.
-
anyone have the setlist for the Crimson Projekct?
Crimson Projeckt doesn't open for the band until the June 19 (Columbus) show.
-
Nothing yet on youtube. Weird.
-

minus TDEN and I'd agree with you! :-*
I really hope Metropolis sticks.
I really hope it doesn't. It's not as if they haven't played enough already on previous tours. I'd love to see them give that one and PMU a complete rest from a tour (as in, not played at all).

Actually I understand why they'd say that about the MnG since it will slow the process down a huge amount. But that would be pretty lame during the concert. Personally, I'd go into the concert with your phone and/or camera ready since security is rarely that strict - especially with phone cameras.
anyone have the setlist for the Crimson Projekct?
I don't believe they are opening the first few shows on this leg of the tour. I saw someone on MP.com ask how the opener "Dark Day Sunday" was.
-
I'm surprised TWIMH and TTTSTA seems to be generally not liked that much. I thought I was the only one.
It seems to me those two songs get too much play. I don't think I've ever heard About to Crash live but this will be maybe the third time I've seen those two...unless they (hopefully) switch them out.

Extremely unlikely, at least on this leg. I agree with you, for all that matters. About To Crash is terribly overlooked by the band.
-
I expected some more changes on the setlist, but it looks pretty good. Can't wait to see LNF on youtube :metal
-
Great setlist. I can't wait to hear a bootleg of this concert or another with the same set.
-
Nothing yet on youtube. Weird.
I know. Surely someone managed to get some video. Like, ANYTHING.

I haven't seen a single video from the two Osaka shows in April, and only a 30 second snippet from Nagoya two days later. Unlikely, but it happened. Yet those who were at the Rochester show confirm that there was no nazi-style rule enforcement, so I guess we'll just have to wait a little bit longer...
-
Awesome set. I really hope Metropolis sticks, because I'm dying to see that one live.

Damn, you spoiled your setlist!! I was rooting for you :censored
-
Just couldn't do it. :(
Honestly, I'm still kind of glad I looked at it. I'd still be holding out for The Glass Prison or In the Name of God, so now I can deal with the disappointment before I get there. :p
-
Very nice! Good to see This Is the Life and Lost Not Forgotten both finally get played. :coolio
And I hope Metropolis stays for the whole summer. It being arguably their definitive live song, and this being Mike Mangini's first tour with the band, it makes sense to play it a lot to see the treatment he gives it. Plus, it would be nice to finally get a whole version of it on an official live DVD with just the five of them playing it. :tup :tup

oh, thanks (and Scotty, too) :tup
-
No video yet?! I'm so impatient.
-
Seeing Metropolis in the encore did not excite me at all. So many other songs they could try in this slot.
-
Seeing as I have seen PMU as the final song / encore at 3/4 of the shows I saw (and the 4th show... which was my first... had TCOT which I wasnt digging at that time)... ... ..
I'd be stoked if the encore with Metropolis when I see'em

Not too shabby - was hoping for more surprises, honestly, but there's plenty of good stuff there. Nothing that inspiring for when they film the DVD, but they've got most of Dramatic Turn rehearsed, plus 6:00, which will basically do me. Happy to have The Root of All Evil with the new ending, too. It's better than the studio version, so we need proof of that.
Hoping These Walls makes it onto Set B. The more These Walls in the world, the better. Feels like we should have something from Black Clouds, too. Not only is it not on DVD, but they never did a headline tour of America with any of it. A little something off that would be nice.
Also, the acoustic interlude. I loved the acoustic interlude. Unless Wait for Sleep and Surrounded are getting the acoustic treatment, it looks like that's been ditched, which would be tragic. Really hope they bring that back for the recording. Even if it's one night only.
-
im going to confirm that they didn't play wait for sleep, i dont know if I was
just super sloshy when i wrote that in or what, but LOL i'ts caused controversy all over the web...

Since you have attended the gig, can you say how full the venue was?.
-
half full probably, but the armory was probably too big a venue for them in rochester...
it's just a huuuuge room, like 300 feet by 150 or something. I would estimate 2-3K people.
It was poorly advertised, even by the sponsoring radio station... so mostly just diehards.
I believe they might have played there just because they got a good deal on
being able to rehearse the whole week ahead of time.
-
The lack of youtube videos disappoints me. Security getting harsh again?
-
No Lost not Forgotten video after 3 gig?? you must be kiddin me...
-
No Lost not Forgotten video after 3 gig?? you must be kiddin me...
My thoughts exactly. After two legs (or have there been 3) and quite a few really decent youtube videos of everything else in the setlist (IIRC), the only songs I'm really excited to see at this point is LNF and TITL (at least until the official live release comes out ;)).
-
Root of All Evil?? Wow, I'm surprised to see a song from the AA suite make it into a setlist after MP quit the band. Simply badasstical!
-

i think this can be said about alot of the shows for this tour
-
That's why I really wish they would announce which show is the DVD show, so that it can maybe fill up more with a sudden rush of ticket purchases.
-

It happens for a lot of prog bands. When Opeth played here with Mastodon, not a word was said about Opeth on the radio. Only Mastodon and Ghost were mentioned
-
Hope they dont show the animated video for TDEN. I never liked that.
I would be surprised if they ever showed it again live, since MP isn't in the band anymore. I have always loved the animated sections that they used for Octavarium and TDEN, that's why I thought the "Dream is Collapsing" intro with the animated bit was so cool. Hopefully they'll continue to do those..
-
In the videos, it looks like old monster movie footage is being shown, which is pretty cool, cause it fits the fun and cheesy aspects of the song.
-
I was at this show. I have always loved Dream Theater. They are my favorite musicans in music, it was great seeing them. I knew Mike Mangini was good, but I didn't realize how great he was until I see him live. They put everything they have into playing great live every night. They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen(tied with Rush and Iced Earth). I saw them again Sunday at Artpark, that too was great.
