The thing about Guide vocal is that I slightly prefer the reprise in Duke's travels. So I'm going to save my praise for this beautiful song for that song. Basically if i had to remove one song of the remaining from the album, it would probably be Guide vocal because I would still have the section in Duke's travels.

I agree, and for that reason, I voted for Duke's End.  It's really just the recap of the opening fanfare plus the recap of the "Turn It On Again" progression but in 4/4, then the Fine which oddly enough echoes the Fine of "Cul-De-Sac".  Clever, and essential, but not particularly challenging.  "Guide Vocal" is short but killer.

Out of the two short tracks, I voted for Duke's End. It's great, but moreso when it's connected with Duke's Travels. Guide Vocal is perfect, even on its own.

I just cannot believe Dutchess is gone.   My favorite song, not only from this album...but from the ENTIRE Collins-era.   This is a very sad day.

Heathaze...

Different strokes, dude.  Duke was the first CD I ever bought, right after my wife (then girlfriend) got me a CD player for my birthday.  I bought it because of "Heathaze".

I'm curious, Eldomm, what do you have against that song?  I think it's brilliant, a masterpiece of construction.  The alternating bars of 6 and 7, the chord progression over a B that has almost every chord in the tonality except B, the way it kicks into straight 4 as it simultaneously brings the ostinato up a half-step, the bars of 3, the overall odd structure with two verses, a chorus, and out...

I'm not saying that clever writing is all it takes, but this is some damned impressive structure, and it's still a catchy song and very few people realize how complex it is (until they're in a band that wants to cover it and have to figure all of this out).  It's almost like Genesis saw how Rush manages to write prog-pop songs in 7 and get them on the radio, so they upped the ante and wrote one in 13.
