Okay, so this topic is just out of curiosity. Nobody should feel obligated to tell everyone how much they drink if they don't want to, the reason I made this poll is because nowadays it's becoming more and more "normal" to drink a lot. In social environments, but also "after work" and similar ideas that appeals to people.
Personally I would qualify under the "Less then a monthly basis". Last time I drank alcohol was New Years Eve, so almost 6 months ago. I have both positive and negative views on alcohol, while I enjoy it and having a few drinks with friends is fun, I've also had to live with the downside of alcohol through all my life so far, because my mother is an alcoholic, and we've had to live with all the problems for over 10 years. She has always kept saying that "you cant have fun without alcohol", so I've always wanted to show her wrong, and I feel very happy with my life and I have fun quite often, without involving alcohol. So it is possible. ;) Deep down I'm also a bit scared of becoming the same parent myself in the future, I want to be able to control it, so by only drinking on rare occasions and not having a specific interval, I feel more like I control my own life. I don't know, might be lame but it has worked so far.
So yeah, I do enjoy having a few drinks with friends because it's always nice, but I also feel that not drinking won't make my life "worse" or "less fun", so I don't see a need to drink more often.
-
It varies for me, as summer comes up, it's more on a monthly basis as most of my friends are summer babies, so all of their parties are crammed into June, July and August. Outside of summer, it's generally less than monthly as I don't have a social life, there are probably a few parties scattered here and there, but other than that, I generally don't.
-
I've never drunk alcohol at all, and the "less than a monthly basis" doesn't feel right, so I haven't voted. But my answer would be "never".
Not that I'm judgemental of those who drink, just my own choice to not feel any reason at all to drink. Most of my family drinks socially, and have never really been drunk, so I haven't had any bad personal experiences with it.
-
I only drink one beer along with a fine dinner every Saturday evening. Aside from that, no alcohol. I partied and drank with my friends when I was 19-20 but quickly discovered it wasn't anything for me. It's been many years since I was drunk the last time, and I don't miss it a bit.
So how to vote? I guess I drink one beer weekly then.
-
I'd strongly prefer to smoke weed only and not drink but I'm not at liberty to do so for a while and thusly drink instead. I have a deep interest in craft beers and usually try at least one new beer per week and I may drink as little as only once a week or five days straight with nothing in particular governing such. Sometimes I plan on drinking but procrastinate and end up saying "Fuck it. I'm too tired now." The weird thing is that when I'm bummed out about things I strongly prefer not drinking and generally have to be in a pretty good mood to want to which seems to contrast typical drinking behavior based on what I've heard.
-
I rarely drink.
Maybe like twice a year.
It just doesn't have an appeal to me, which kinda sucks cause all my friends binge drink on a weekly to daily basis and it really sucks being around drunk people when you are sober.
-
Special occasions or outings only. Probably would average out at about 1-2 drinks every 4-6 weeks. Even special occasions I'm usually driving, so I either don't drink, or have 1 at the most.
Saying that, from about 14 - 21 I was getting blind as much as I possibly could. I had consumed quite a lot of alcohol in those 7 years.
-
Every 2-3 days, I'd say. I usually enjoy a beer every second evening or so.
-
Every tuesday night I eat and go out with the same group of friends and naturally there's alcohol involved in that. On top of that every evening I'm hanging out or socialising with friends I'll drink a beer or two (or three), so I voted 'weekly', though it's usually more than once a week. I don't drink when I'm by myself though (or very rarely), just with friends and stuff.
-
Never.
;D
-
Less than monthly. Last week I had a few beers and more than a few jello shots at my wife's graduation party, which more than equaled my total for the year thus far.
Once the kids are out of school, our wine consumption will go up to a weekly basis, unwinding after work on our deck.
So I am basically seasonal. But still fairly rare, no matter the season.
-
Thursdays are happy hour night, a.k.a. "Thirsty Thursday". Much drinking happens then. Saturdays are either gigs, where we're at home, likely drinking. I usually have a few beers at practice on Tuesdays. It would be nothing for me to come in after work, pour a cold beer and enjoy the hell out of it. So while it isn't strictly daily, it could be every once in a while.
-
Binge drink once at the weekend, then the odd beer during the week
-
Recently it's been weekly, I've been going out and having some drinks but sometimes it'll go to once a month. Really it depends on what I'm doing and what group of friends anymore.
5-6 years ago when I first got to college I used to drink a ton, lots and lots of binge drinking but I grew out of that fairly quickly.
-
Weekly. Beer drinker here.
-
I have a couple beers a week in general, so I voted weekly basis.
-
i usually drink in the weekends. during the week if i'm at the game i will have 3-4 beers.
-
Depends on the time of year, sometimes it's a few times a week, other times it's only a few times a month.

Daily if I have something, but I sometimes go months in between drinks. I enjoy exploring but never felt a need.
...and anyone that beats alcoholism, hard to imagine what that's like to go through. :tup
-
I've never used anything stronger than Listerine.
-
I would say I drink a 12 pk of beer a week. Depends on the season. I drink less in the Winter than the Summer.
-
Somewhere between daily and weekly. I'll usually have a beer when I'm cooking or eating.
-
I don't drink pop or many sugary drinks... so somewhere between daily and weekly. Water gets so bland sometimes.
-
I don't. I've never been drunk. I've been buzzed on wine 2 or 3 times, but that's it.
However. My friends have informed me that on my 21st birthday (this December) they're taking me to Austin, Texas to get me shitfaced. Apparently there's a bar street in Austin where if you can prove it's your 21st birthday, you get free shots at each bar. So I guess I'm looking forward to that. :lol

Being 38, I no longer feel the need to consume alcohol on a regular basis. I probably have a couple of drinks maybe once or twice a month at most, and usually not even that often.
-
daily. wine or beer with pretty much every meal except breakfast.
-
I probably average a twelver a week too. I definitely drink daily, a shot of scotch and 2 beers is an average evening for me. Don't be alarmed though folks- I'm a professional. :hat
-
Daily.
-
Daily.
I know, DTF drives you to drink.
-
Used to be a big drinker, but now only couple times a year. Have moved on to better drugs.
-
Used to be daily. Now I don't drink.
-
Tuesday's I normally drink a fair bit...5 pints and many whiskeys. If I'm gigging weekends I'll probably have 1 or 2 as I want to stay the top of my game, if not I'll buy a pack of 4 beers and drink them while watching a film or playing PS3 with Alice. Maybe an odd pint or can during the week.
-
Less than monthly. Stomach can't handle it; I feel like utter shit the next day even if I only have a couple of drinks. But I do enjoy it.
-
Haven't had alcohol in 15 years. Can't stand the stuff.

My wife hated alcohol until she tried a beer she liked.

Usually weekly or every other week. Never drink on my own either.

1) For your friends to get you a lot of Jägermeister.
2) To throw up a lot.

...so long as it isn't Prairie Fires.

About 10-15 drinks per week. Mostly beer, but sometimes wine. I just had 3-4 glasses of wine with dinner last night. And 2 beers after playing hockey the night before that. And I'll probably have about 5-6 beers when I shoot pool with my buddy in the city this friday nite. And another 4 beers to go with my buffalo wings after playing a round of golf this coming saturday afternoon. Maybe another 2-3 on sunday when I'm watching baseball or hockey playoffs on TV.
-
Hardly ever. I probably add up to two drinks (beer equivalence) per month.

Nah, my insides just suck :lol I used to be fine with booze. Had a typical college night of drinking my sophomore year which just destroyed me the next morning and I haven't been the same since.

Speaking of Jager, as long as I can do this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5QJ9i_o5vo&feature=player_detailpage#t=145s), I'll be happy.

I go months without alcohol. I've never been drunk, either, and hopefully never will be.
-

Umm...beer is drinking alcohol.
If we were just talking about hard liquor, my answer would be quite different, cause beer is the only alcohol I drink. My booze days are over.

Got tipsy once. Haven't drank for a while due to being underage. Probably won't drink that much after hitting 21, either.

It changes, to be honest. Sometimes I drink almost daily but sometimes which I mean maybe a "year" I don't even drink. So there are no options for me. But maybe statistically monthly basis option is where I belong.

Since being able to drink like a man is an honorable trait, I'll throw out a couple of pieces of advice. Eat a nice meal before hand, and I'd advise against Tex-mex. A good CFS will serve you well. In between shots, alternate between beer and a glass of ice water. If nothing else it'll help you feel a little better the next morning, and the three beers you skip might be the differnce between looking cool and projectile vomiting all over 6th Street. Most importantly, if you're going to smoke grass during this occasion, only do it before you start drinking. Don't smoke after you commence hard drinking. As plenty here will attest, few things suck worse than the spins.

My buddy told me a trick in college was to toss your leg off the side of the bed so it's touching the floor, don't know if it's a placebo effect but it helped me get my bearings while I was on the roller coaster that is my bed.
-
I probably drink on a monthly basis. I seldom get "drunk" unless I'm at a party (infrequent), camping (even more infrequent) or over at my buddy's place and we're playing Rock Band (this is probably once a month), and even then it's four or five beers and that's all. I was never a big drinker in university either - I had a couple nights where my drink count hit double digits, but there were probably about 4 or five of those across the entire time I was there.
-
I have a glass of wine in the evening now and again, but I only really drink once every week or two probably.
-
Rarely. I only drink every now and then socially at parties, and even then it's only one or two drinks if I'm feeling dangerous and edgy.

Smoking beforehand helps you pace yourself a little better sometimes since you aren't chasing intoxication because you'll start feeling the green in less time than it takes to get to the bar unless y'all are hitting a small piece in the car in the parking lot outside and then just walking into the bar which I'd strongly advise against if you're in an unfamiliar area.
-
Once or twice a week, usually not all that heavily.
-
I'm gonna go have a beer.
-
I usually drink 4-5 nights a week, averaging 2-3 beers unless there's some kind of special event I'm at. Craft beer is my main hobby (I review commercial beers and brew my own) and some day I hope to make it a career.
-
Rarely, being underage an all. I'll drink wine if I'm at a religious dinner and a sip or two of shit other people are drinking if I'm interested. Other that that, I've gotten really drunk once and a bit tipsy one other time. All of it with parental approval. :hat
-
If I had to guess an average, maybe 2-3 times a week I'll go to the bar with a friend and have a beer. Drinking a lot, as in getting drunk...Maybe once every month or two. Having to work at 6am sorta forces you to cut back on your drinking/night life.
-
I don't partake. Alcoholism has all but claimed my father's life, so out of respect to my mother and sister, I just abstain. I don't think it's wrong to drink alcohol at all though-just wrong for me.

That's one reason I started exploring straight liquor instead of beer or wine. I figure a drink you sip and consume 2oz must not be as bad for weight. Don't really know if it's true, but hey. I never realized until a year or two ago how much liquor could offer as a drink all it's own. When you think about serving size, a $30 bottle of liquor is roughly a $6-$10 bottle of wine depending on your serving sizes. The upfront price is intimidating, but exploring better liquor isn't expensive if you can afford cheap wine.
-
I couldn't afford to drink the wines I liked. Being so close to Napa, and in the restaurant business, I got used to $100 bottles as a regular thing to taste. If I went to a cheap bottle, under $20, usually they dissapointed me so much. On my 40 birthday, my buddy and I split a $750 bottle of an '89 Caymus Cabernet, fucking liquid gold(then I preceded to follow that bottle with a twelve pack and a fifth of Jager, but who's counting).
-
Yeah, that is a big problem with alcohol(and many other things), as you can explore better stuff it gets harder and harder to go back to cheaper quality. ...but that whole process of exploring into better and better is an awful lot of fun.
-

Seventhed. But I will say this about the whole spins thing- There's a line (for me anyway). I can't say exactly where it is, it's just something I get a feel for during the evening, but there is a point where if I drink just enough and then blaze it takes me to that magical place where I'm fucking unstoppable at Mario Kart 64. But just one tiny step over that line, then yeah- spins :shudders:
A good cure for the spins though that always worked for me: throw Wish You Were Here on in a pitch black room and then lay down and close your eyes. I'd always be passed out before the vocals on Shine On came in.

That's pretty cool.

I marked weekly but I guess that's a good average. I usually only drink to get drunk or a good buzz. I don't enjoy wine very much and i like beer but to just have a couple seems like a waste. I usually get drunk like once or twice a month. Back in college it was twice a week at least. My gf drinks wine daily. I tried to get into wine a few times and just can't seem to enjoy it. I usually drink vodka nowadays.
-
I drink almost daily, but very rarely even get so much as a buzz.
I've never used anything stronger than Listerine.
Since Listerine is like 26% alcohol (52 proof), that still leaves open beer, wine, liqueurs, and most cocktails. :P
-
Now that I've graduated college I will probably quit drinking. My family doesn't do it. My girlfriend doesn't do it. My friends do it way too much.

-
I haven't ever had more than a sip of any alcohol. I'm not of age until September, but I've never really had a great desire to drink.
-
Both my parents are/were alcoholics. My dad died at age 57 from chirosis of the liver. My mom is now 77 and currently isn't drinking. She has lapses at times.
The best thing you can do is not drink if you can help it. I enjoy my beer and am very aware of the dangers for me as a drinker. I have had periods in my life where I drank rather heavy. Not wanting to lose the privledge all together I have learned to pick my spots so when I go to that concert and want a few beers I can still have them.
Not all people can excerise the will to moderate. I try really hard to not let alcohol play a big role in my daily life.
-
Good advice, Tick
-
Almost every day. I have become somewhat of an amateur drink-meister, and I usually keep around 15 bottles of different liquors in the house at all times so I can make myself a variety of drinks at a moment's notice. It's become something of a hobby for me, but I usually only have a couple drinks a day, so unless I'm drinking something really strong, like Absinthe, I almost never get a buzz, let alone drunk.
-
I drink about twice a year. I grew up in a household where my parents pretty much stopped drinking regularly once us kids were born, so besides my dad having a few at family gatherings, I wasn't exposed to it much. Back in college I drank heavily about once every 3 months, but generally i didn't party or anything. These days I go on a bender maybe twice a year, but I don't drink on a regular basis. So basically, maybe 2-3 times per year, and usually a lot at once during those times. XD
-

That's one reason I started exploring straight liquor instead of beer or wine. I figure a drink you sip and consume 2oz must not be as bad for weight. Don't really know if it's true, but hey.
Doesn't help. The calories and carbs are in the alcohol, and as they've been telling you for years, the alcohol content between a glass of wine, shot of whiskey and bottle of beer is about the same. Fucking shame, actually.
I keep a pretty nicely stocked bar at home, but honestly I never really get into it. My job affords me the opportunity to do side jobs for people, and for quite a while I always asked for firewater for payment. One seventy-fives of top shelf liquor piled up a lot faster than I could drink them for a while, and I'm still sitting on some of it. I've always got a bottle of George Dickel which I'm working on, and usually save the really good stuff until an occasion warrants it.
As for my drinking habits, I'm old enough that drinking to get shitfaced doesn't appeal to me anymore. I'll drink to attain a nice buzz, but that's about it. If I'm really looking to go professional, like for a concert or something, then there's normally several other things acting on my system and alcohol is just a part of the combination. I have a great fondness for hitting the door of a concert when I'm only about 33% functional, and trying to hit that level with alcohol alone is a recipe for disaster.
-
I voted less than weekly. The last drink I had was on St. Patrick's Day, but it was one drink and during the champagne toast at a friend's wedding. Last time before that was probably in 2006. I just don't find the need to drink because I think I got that out of my system in my late teens/early 20s and
I'd strongly prefer to smoke weed only and not drink *clip*
I completely agree with this statement. It should also be noted, though, that I'm currently on a scrip med that is used for Type 2 diabetes (that's not what I'm taking it for, though) which will severely spike my blood sugar if I decide to go on a bender, which hasn't happened since I got rage drunk on wine the last time I drank. Plus, I'd much rather get completely baked. Not that I'm being all judgmental of why peeps drink more than I do - that's their choice.
OT:
However. My friends have informed me that on my 21st birthday (this December) they're taking me to Austin, Texas to get me shitfaced. Apparently there's a bar street in Austin where if you can prove it's your 21st birthday, you get free shots at each bar. So I guess I'm looking forward to that. :lol
That would be 6th Street. Doesn't surprise me, either. 6th is something that I think everyone should experience at least once, because all of the city's inherent weirdness (which is the good kind, not the bad kind) is amplified on a Friday or Saturday night, and multiplies exponentially on NYE, Halloween and close to Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras time. I think you'll enjoy yourself, and Austin is just a hip place anyway (I'm biased though).

Less than monthly. Although, to be honest I've drank probably 3 times in the last month (family gathering, concert, and went to a trivia night with my sister). But I don't drink that often. Before that, the last time I drank was probably a couple months ago. I'm sure all of you know what my substance of choice is.

averages out to about twice a month. usually one mixed drink. I can't stand the taste of wine or beer

I think a good sign that I am an alcoholic is that I look at almost all the post here and think,"what the hell is the purpose of just one drink."

Yeah, that's probably it. I drink almost daily, a glass of red wine to close off the day, or one scotch after rehearsing.
But of course when I go party, I'll drink more (6-8 wines/whiskeys or something like that). Not that I'm always passed out, I can even honestly say that I've never felt drunk in my life.
-

Though I haven't drank in almost a year, it's probably been at least twenty since I didn't start drinking with the sole goal of getting tanked.

But of course when I go party, I'll drink more (6-8 wines/whiskeys or something like that). Not that I'm always passed out, I can even honestly say that I've never felt drunk in my life.
Though I haven't drank in almost a year, it's probably been at least twenty since I didn't start drinking with the sole goal of getting tanked.
Yeah that's crazy, I'm glad I've never had those intentions.

Be glad, it's a fucked way to live, so glad I'm out of it.

One in each nostril?
Who said anything about nostrils?

Sixthed.
I dominate in Mario Kart 64 when drunk.

Not trying to burst anyones bubble, because as a former moderate drinker, I am not someone to tell other people what to do regarding alcohol.and i am definetly not preaching here. Everything in moderation is good. i partake in some beers occasionally (see food thread why hehe). But what i do not like hearing is "i drink about 6 beers a day and some shots, but I don't get drunk". An alcoholic doesnt nesecarily get drunk because the body gets accustomed to the quantity". Just sayin. So just beacuse you do not get drunk after a 12 pack a day, does not mean you are not an alcoholic.
-
Did you read the thread? It's mostly people who drink in moderation or less.

One is too many and a thousand not enough

I drank 6 beers Saturday night while sitting in my backyard with a nice fire going. It was a relaxing night. Sunday I drank water and gator aid while sitting outside all day. I love being able to have a few when I want them. I always am aware how when and how much I drink.

It's funny, I'm actually drinking much, much less now that I've begun working for a wine tasting restaurant. I've been there almost a year now and at first I was tasting and drinking wine like no other; but now that I've been promoted, I'm still tasting the wine and whatnot, except specifically for business and selling to patrons, informing them, blah blah blah. But for the most part I don't ever drink these days outside of The Tasting Room. That said, I picked monthly just because I'll have a drink of scotch every now and again but even then, I can't pinpoint a specific time I've had a drink in the last few months outside of work.
All that said, I've been delving into certain illegal substances (granted, I still take the saying of 'everything in moderation' pretty SRSBZNSSLY) a little more, so I'm not here to gloat or anything. Absolutely loving that V.
...Vampire blood. Duh. Stupidass. Don't do pills.

Quite a spread in the results, interesting.

Doesn't surprise me, all types of variations in drinkers, and their view of themselves. I've met people who are in recovery, yet really didn't have a high consumption, and I know peeps who are comfortable with their lives, and drink massive volumes, it all depends on how they view it themselves.
-
I didn't even vote, none of them apply to me.

Before I lost my second job, I used to drink at least once a week. I can't afford to now and have been sober for almost a month. Now that I've been sober so long, I really don't feel the need to drink, which is good in terms of my health.
-
I've only drank alcohol a handful of times in my life.
-
I don't really drink anymore, this year I had a cocktail in February, half a pint of Stella in April and some cider last weekend as I was away in London partying. I'm practically teetotal. I've done more than my fair share of drinking when I was 14-19 and then I just grew outta it, I hate how alcohol makes me feel and hate even more the morning after. Never used to have an 'off' switch either, which I seem to be finding again when I have the odd drink. Also my mum died of alcoholism and my sister is an addict and I'm prone to self-destruction (through masochism, self harm rather than substances) so it's probably for the best I abstain. I <3 being sober.
Also did six months vol work in a prison rehabilitation wing and my general experiences have all tied together to make me view alcohol in a much more different, slightly sinister way compared to the way most people my age seem to view it. It's a dangerous drug, some people can handle in moderation and others can't, but either way it's way more dangerous than society gives it credit for.

Well done, lonestar!

Very cool dude. Congrats!
Also, I work as a drug/alcohol counselor and have seen a wide range of drinkers. From people who don't really have a problem and can handle drinking, to those who REALLY can't. I've also seen people know what they are and people who have no idea what soever that they have problems. I never make it my business (unless I really care about the person) to tell other people what to do or not do. However it can be sad at times to see people drink their lives away while at no point realizing that anything bad is happening.

Congratulations, Chef - that is spectacular.

I voted for the last option, because I only drink very rarely, due to an experience I had as a child.
I don't know if this is popular outside of Germany, but in Germany kids have so-called "Adventskalender", which are basically calendars that contain a small sweet for each day from the first of December until Christmas Eve. Most people buy them at the supermarket, but I had one that my grandfather, who is a carpenter, had made, and my mother would fill it herself.
Then, one day, she accidentally put a chocolate filled with some kind of hard liquor, that I promptly spat out. (To this day, I think that she did it on purpose to keep me from drinking at an early age - if she did, it worked). From that moment on, I was repulsed by alcoholic beverages for a long time, and this has only slightly changed over the past years.
Now, I do have a drink now and then, though nothing with more alcohol than a glass of sparkling wine, or a "Kölsch" (again, I have no idea, whether this is known outside of Germany, but it's basically a very mild beer, where the alcoholic taste isn't that prominent).
So yeah, that much about my alcohol consumption. I do drink, but only very little and very rarely.

Well done my friend on your year! Feels great doesn't it? I have been clean for 1 year 1 month and 12 days.

Never and never have.

I used to go months without a drink because I'm not much of a drinker. Since I met my GF 9 months ago, we have an occasional drink. We shared a bottle of wine when I took her out to dinner over the weekend for her birthday. That was nice. I'd say weekly on average.

Common in the US, as well. "Advent Calendars", in English.

We import quite a few German beers, including Kölsch.

I just drink whenever I'm in parties, so...that would be weekly, or once/Twice per two weeks.
-
I've gone from daily to less than once a year. It's not an inspirational story about a struggle with alcoholism or anything like that; I just grew up and now drink a lot less.

Nice to see this comment. I have no problem with people drinking in moderation, a fair amount at a party responsibly, an occassional tank and etc . But I believe people your age is when the transition should occur from drunk to moderation at the least.
Yet I see people I work with @ my age or yours, still going out multiple times a week to get hammer-smashed.

I went for many years without drinking at all, but this year to be more "heart healthy" I try and incorporate a glass of wine a few nights each week with my supper. I'm not regular with it though, so I'd say one a week on average. More than 2 glasses would put me over my limit of excess, so I never drink more than 2. That is unless I'm with Geddy. Then a few bottles throughout the meal aren't out of the question. I recently had just such an experience when I was with him last, and perhaps it is because I am getting old...older, but there is almost nothing worse than a wine hangover. That headache reminds me of the "vise" scene from "Casino". Ugh!. Nonetheless Ged is a true oenophile...and I want to be. :)

Actually would it have been 366 days? Congrats!

Nope, 365, the 28th was my one year.
