Title: Jirpo's Roulette Round 5 Results Up!
Post by: Jirpo on May 02, 2012, 06:04:02 AM
Hey all and thanks for participating! I'll send a quick PM to everyone to let them know its starting. I'm not sure how many rounds I'll do but I guess 6-8 . I'll use a 1-10 pt scoring system for each round. This is my first roulette so I'm sorry if I forget anything! I don't have a last.fm or an account on any of those music sites so theres no way to see if I've heard something or not, but I won't take marks off if I've already heard something. I'm open to all types of music, I love wierd and experimental stuff but I can also appreciate a more traditional song if the music is great! The genres I know best are modern and 70's prog rock and metal, post rock, alternative rock and various other kinds of metal. But it just means there are more options in other genres for you to choose! My favourite artists include Opeth, Agalloch, Sigur Ros, Iron Maiden, Tori Amos, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and I love bands like Thrice, Radiohead, and 70's classic prog and metal bands.

The competitors:
Wolfking
Gorille
Nekov
Reaper
Ravenheart
Elite
Kari
Jingle

The First Round is just an open round so send in your songs everyone! I'll try and move this along nice and fast :)

Yeah, if you could PM it to me as well (or the entire group), as I have a handful of bands I could possibly use that aren't out on Grooveshark or Youtoob.

Tough competitors.

Damn right.  This is gonna be fun.  One of us has to take Z down!  :deadpool:

I'd prefer sending Mp3's or WMA also, it's much easier.

Also, any chance you could post a more extensive list of bands you're really familar with, just to give us all a better idea of what not to send you.

Ok Wolf, I'll write up a more extensive list when I get home from uni this afternoon. :)

I'll send a PM with my email.

I really can't be bothered writing up a list of all the artists I know and would probably forget some as I have music scattered across multiple computers/collections at the moment so it would take too much time. But no-one has sent me anything yet which I already know. As long as they are not well talked about/known on the forum chances are I won't know it, because this is where I get a lot of my music :)
I'll listen to each song multiple times before I post up the results. Just waiting on Wolf and Kev, Kev's inbox is full so he cant reply to my PM's :\

ROUND 1 RESULTS!

So I listened to each song 2-3 times to get a good idea of how much I liked it. I'm going to use a 0-10 pt scale, where a 5 will be the average score.

So here we go!

Elite - Royal Hunt - Time Will Tell
This was quite an enjoyable prog metal song on the first listen! The vocals were pretty catchy, good chorus and a great solo at the end. However on the second listen I got a little bored with the instrumental sections and I felt the song went on a couple of minutes too long. Overall a solid song and a good benchmark.
5 Points

Wolfking - Pendragon - The Freak Show
What an awesome song! This one had me headbanging straight from the opening riff and the guitar work on the song is just gorgeous all the way through. I have heard of these guys on this forum but never really felt like checking them out until now. The vocal melodies were great and catchy and worked very well with the heavy riffs. Nice short song which is very easy to love on the first few listens. Will check out this album definitely!
8 Points

Gorille - Unexpect - Orange Vigilantes
These guys have been on my to check out list for ages after hearing one or two songs hear or there, so I knew what to expect (pun intended :p). I knew you love them and I was very excited to see you had selected a song by them! Wow I don't think I have ever listened to something that jam-packed and intense. I think this is a band I could really love, but thats the problem with roulettes - I only have time to give it a couple of listens, and I think this sort of music really needs time to grow (for me at least :p). The female and growled vocals and all the instruments really compliment each other and I loved the chaotic feel of the song. Will definitely pick up this album and In a Flesh Aquarium soon. It'll be interested to see how much I end up liking these guys, and I'm very excited to get into them!
6 Points

Kari - The Antlers - Kettering
I really wasn't sure what to expect here. A very soft song to begin with with some nice quiet vocals which is very different to my other submissions. Some awesome vocal melodies and the heavier section of the song is really great! I wish it kind of built up to something instead of just fading out like that though. But that does really work sometimes! (An example I love would be A Song for Milly Michaelson by Thrice, the drums keep building up then kind of die which I love). Another song I feel would benefit from more listens and I will add this band to my check out list.
6 Points

Ravenheart - Poe - Haunted
I was expecting something a lot softer, Nexus style, I dunno why so I was a bit surprised when the drums came in and the song turned out a bit more fast-paced and upbeat. This song had me straight from the beginning! I really liked everything about it. The vocals were very catchy and the chorus is just awesome. I love that "ba-da-ba-ba" in the background for a lot of the song too. She is a really sweet singer and I am definitely going to check out her albums! Great pick!
8 Points

Jingle - Nightwish - Planet Hell
This song to me seemed to be trying to be a bit too epic and failing. I didn't find the vocals or riffs all that catchy (although the female singer has an AMAZING voice). I don't really know what else to say except the mix of male and female vocals worked quite well, although even though I know Nightwish was a big part of introducing that style to metal it didn't sound very interesting to me. Not terrible but not very good imo, sorry :(
3 Points

Nekov - Iluvatar - In the Eye
This song started off extremely well! A very happy and floaty, magical feel and I thought it was going to be a very different spin on prog metal. I love the instrumental sections of this song, however when the vocals came in I got bored pretty quickly - they didn't sound like they suited the song to me and the melodies don't do very much for me. The instrumental sections are great though, some awesome keyboard work!
4 Points

Reaper - Mogwai - Yes! I am a long way from home
Cool song! Some interesting samples at the beginning, and I love post rock, although I do own one of Mogwai's albums so I knew kinda what to expect. It was fairly standard post rock (not that that is a bad thing) but it was good with a melancholy feel (like a lot of the genre :D). Like most post-rock I think it would work a lot better listened with the full album. The end was very interesting aswell.
6 Points

I generally loved the selections guys! Thanks heaps! In future, if someone sends me a song I already know I'll just let you know and you can send me another song.

The Rankings so far:

Wolfking - 8
Ravenheart - 8
Reaper - 6
Gorille - 6
Kari - 6
Elite - 5
Nekov - 4
Jingle - 3

ROUND 2
Alright, for round 2 I want a song that makes me feel alone! As in like alone in then world, nobody understands you, nobody loves you depressing kind of feel. I want to feel isolated! This is quite a specific round so I will be quite lenient - obviously a song that makes you feel a certain way may not effect me in the same way. :)

For this one, you'll get it soon, but I have to think of something.

Title: Re: Jirpo's Roulette Round 1!
Post by: Nekov on May 06, 2012, 07:41:39 AM

Nekov - Iluvatar - In the Eye
I thought it was going to be a very different spin on prog metal.

Iluvatar is not prog metal  :-\

Well, not a good start for me. I'll send something for round 2 later

Great you liked the Pendragon track Jirpo, but be warned, that's not their usual style of song.  Definitely check out Pure though, it's amazing.

Interesting criteria for Round 2.  Realistically, I won't be able to send something for another 24 hours.

damnit!! just wrote it all up then closed the window by accident... sorry but I can't be bothered writing as much as the first time so the writeups are a bit short :p

Round 2

Jingle - In an Empty Room
Good vocals and a pretty catchy chorus, it really sounded like the vocalist was giving it his all particularly in the second half of the song. Nice submission but didn't really move me that much to be honest.
4 Points

Reaper - Kaki King - Joi
Great acoustic song, loved the part around 3 min from memory where it sped up and picked up in intensity before fading back down. However I found my attention wandering a couple of times.
4 Points

Gorille - Bright Eyes - Waste of Paint
I'd heard of these guys before so I was pretty excited to see you sent me a song by them. But to be honest I found it a bit disappointing. The acoustic work was good but personally I didn't really like the vocals which put me off a bit from the song. The lyrics told a deep and touching story but I didn't really like the way in which they were written. I can see how it would make someone feel alone though.
3 Points

Kari - Eluvium - Prelude for Time Feelers
Another awesome instrumental song but I preferred this one to Reapers. I found it did create quite a lonesome atmosphere, it just built up slowly and kept me hooked the whole way till its sudden ending.
6 Points

Wolfking - Jorn Lande - Crying
Nice submission, loved the singers voice. You can definitely feel he was giving it all in this one. Quite a sad song too.
5 Points

Nekov - King Crimson - Epitaph
I must admit I'd never heard King Crimson so I was very excited considering how seminal they are in the prog scene. It definitely lived up! Awesome, gloomy, sad song, that ending just had me captured. Definitely adhered to the contents of the round. Awesome submission!
7 Points

Elite - Damien Rice - Delicate
Very soft, stripped down touching song. I don't really know what else to write, but I  liked it. Thanks!
5 Points

Raven - Anathema - Anyone, Anywhere
Once again an amazing song! I have WHBHW and WS so I was very excited to hear this. And it was just amazing, it had me captured from the beginning. Those keys and that huge distortion kick in are incredible! This is excatly what I was looking for in this round, very cold and desolate feeling. Perfect choice!
9 Points

Overall standings:
Ravenheart - 17
Wolfking - 13
Kari - 12
Nekov - 11
Reaper - 10
Elite - 10
Gorille - 9
Jingle - 7

Thanks again guys! Can't wait to check some of this stuff out.

For my 3rd round I want something that I can listen to and it just makes me think everything is right with the world! For example, if I come out of a test/presentation/date etc that went really well I can just listen to and feel on top of the world! Once again very specific round so I will be nice with the marking.
Title: Re: Jirpo's Roulette Round 1 Results Up!

No way, Epitaph is one of my favourite songs, I should have sent that :P

Regarding Round 2 submissions ...

This is quite a specific round so I will be quite lenient

*only 3 songs scored higher than 5*

Once again very specific round so I will be nice with the marking.

:( Sorry, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and I personally just didn't like it. I don't HAVE to love everything everyone sends me. Theres no need to get all worked up :)

Also I think you may as well use the full end of the spectrum in terms of scores, no point having a 0-10 scale and giving everyone above 5 :p

Accidentally closed the window about halfway through again... why do I keep doing that! Grr *subtracts 1 from everyones score out of frustration* :p

Round 3

Low scoring round this time... remember it's how you do in comparison to the others! *runs*

Jingle - Iggy Pop - Lust for Life
I hate to keep giving you low scores cause your such a great guy, but I really didn't find this very interesting at all, sorry :( I guess it was pretty bouncy but the melodies didn't really do anything for me. Overall I just found it pretty boring :(
2 Points

Gorille - Ferry Corsten - Ain't no Stoppin'
Solid submission! About average for the round I think. Some catchy vocals and pretty upbeat tune. Interesting that you sent the radio edit! I saw the other version was about double as long. Thanks for something different!  :tup
4 Points

Elite
- Bruce Springsteen - Rosalita
Hmm not really sure what to say here... cool intro and sax, decent song but didn't really feel a sense of happiness from it. I felt it dragged on a little too.
3 Points

Ravenheart - Nightingale - Atlantis Rising
I hate to keep giving the same people the same scores but this was a really great metal song. The vocals were so damn catchy! Some cool synth work after the second chorus (I think) too. Great submission, thanks! :) Will get onto these guys right away.
7 Points

Kari - Eels - Beginners Luck
Pretty solid song with a really nice chorus and pretty bouncy/happy feel. It had a really happy feel which I loved. Overall about average for the round.
4 Points

Reaper - Deadmau5 - I Remember
I was quite excited to see what you sent considering your comments :p I loved it! Excatly what I was looking for in the round. Very chilled and happy. Would get a bit higher but I don't think I find it as catchy/bouncy as you. Still one of the standouts of the round!
7 Points

Wolfking - Lost Horizon - Think Not Forever
Above average submission for the round! Some really great vocals here, very powerful and quite uplifting. Some cool riffs and nice guitar work throughout the song. Although some parts were really great, I didn't find the song to be that consistent all the way through. But in the future I will check this band out :)
5 Points

Nekov - Karmakanic - Turn it up
Like the last song, another above average submission with a really good feeling to it, I loved it straight away. You really nailed the criteria in this one. Loved the vocals and melodies throughout the song. It was just lacking that something special to boost it up to the next level.
5 Points

Don't get down from the low scores! I really do enjoy listening to all these songs. I have given quite hard rounds with little criteria and have recieved a very wide range of music from round to round which is awesome. I just love seeing how you guys interpret the criteria, which I find more interesting than if everyone sends similar songs.

Round 4

Alright, another (horribly) ambiguous round :p I want a song that takes you to a certain place, ie. makes you feel as if you are in a forest at night/a summers day at the beach/in the snowy mountains. There is no song length limit because you may need a longer piece for this round to take me on a journey. But be aware if you all send long songs it may take a little longer to get the results in. Please also let me know where this song takes you!

If round 4 criteria sucks, please let me know and if the majority don't like it I will change the round theme. There's no point if you aren't enjoying it! I just really love that sort of atmospheric music but if you guys don't want to do this round then no dramas :) Thanks for being such an understanding group and bearing with my stupid rounds and harsh marking! :)  :heart

This criteria doesn't suck.... just having criteria sucks.  I prefer more "open" rounds so we can just send you what we like, that might appeal to you.  I have over 9000 songs in my library, and this criteria narrows it down to ... oh say a couple hundred, tops.

Oh well, I'll do my best (to get higher than a 4).

Well Jboy, I think you have a point there but the roulettes are also intended to have fun and challenging the person that is sending you a song is part of that fun.

I hear ya.  I'm totally 100% on board with the organizer running the roulette the way THEY want to - as evidenced by my fucked up structure.  Just bitching (probably because I'm failing so miserably!)

I actually do like the criterias, it's just difficult as the criteria might tie into a song well for me but someone else probably would have no idea how I linked the theme and song.  I'm happy to keep rolling with it though.

EDIT:  Probably won't have a song in for at least another 24 hours.

Round 4

High scoring round! Great submissions guys!

Gorille - The Tallest Man on Earth - Where Do My Bluebirds Fly
Nice submission! Awesome acoustic work and a really great voice. I thought about being alone in an open field and it really suited that atmosphere, so nice job there. This would actually have been a good submission for round 2 aswell in my opinion. Very stripped down and lovely song. Will be checking out his albums for sure. Thanks!
6 Points

Reaper - Incubus - Aqueous Transmission
Beautiful song! The soft acoustic and woodwind instruments really created a relaxed atmosphere, although you didn't specify a place it made me feel like lying down in a sunny grassy field overlooking a river. The soothing vocals assisted in that respect. Took me on a little journey and I felt so relaxed afterwards. The song didn't progress much, but that suited it perfectly, I got lost in its sound quite easily.
7 Points

Ravenheart - Loreena Mckennitt - Dante's Prayer
I must admit, I listened to this one first and thought Raven had dominated the round again! But many other submissions were just as good this time round. Really beautiful song, the vocals and piano were so touching and I felt really moved as I imagined the description you gave me (which the song really fit! definitely a sunset song in my opinion). I will definitely be checking out this artist for sure! Great song that took me somewhere emotionally as well as creating an atmosphere which fit a specific place.
7 Points

Kari - Immanu El - Storm
I had already heard a couple of songs by these guys on youtube but this was slightly different to what I had heard before. Perfect setting you gave me! Really touching and I got a little emotional listening to the song. It gave me the feel of a rainforest with waterfalls when the rain is pouring down. Overall just a great song with an awesome build up which I really loved, the vocals were lovely and suited the song perfectly. Nice one! Was deciding between 8 and 7 but just snuck ahead of the many other contenders for the round.
8 Points

Jingle - Frost* - Welcome to Nowhere
That's more like it! I loved that you twisted the round criteria here slightly with your description and it really paid off. To be honest, not what I was looking for in the round but since I was so vague I can't be harsh on that and I loved your description (and the song). Some amazingly catchy and powerful vocals in this song and awesome transitions between the less and more heavy sections. Will check this band out!
6 Points

Nekov - Frost* - Hyperventilated
A repeat of artists! This sounded quite different to what Jingle sent though. An instrumental song with an awesome piano opening and some great keyboard and guitar work through the song, with some crazy solos at times. Definitely adhered to the description you sent. Loses marks because I got a little bored during some of the solo parts. Still a solid choice!
5 Points

Elite - Wolves in the Throne Room - Dia Artio
I actually have a few of these guys albums on order, waiting for them to arrive, so I already know their sound from listening to one song on youtube. Anyway, I love ambient/atmospheric black metal so great choice! Loved the wall of sound the guitars created and just the whole atmosphere of the song (like much of the genre) really created that feeling of a dense, thick forest in deep night. The atmosphere is really key here, you just have to lose yourself to the song! I imagine it would work much better in a full album setting too.
7 Points

Wolfking - Kamelot - Karma
Definitely a very eastern feel to the song. Started off very strong, but dragged a little towards the end. Some strong and very catchy vocals and pretty cool guitar work. I don't really have too much to say here, although the song was very solid it didn't really take me anywhere personally, either emotionally or causing me to imagine a certain scenery.
5 Points

Everyone really stepped it up this round! Another very low deviation of scores. People that would normally have broken away from the pack a little haven't because of the strong submissions by everyone. Thanks guys, heaps of great stuff to check out from that round.

Ravenheart - 31
Kari - 24
Reaper - 24
Wolfking - 23
Nekov - 21
Gorille - 19
Elite - 20
Jingle - 15

Hopefully this puts all those comments about my "harsh marking" aside :p Aside from Raven, who still hasn't had anything close to even a decent round, the results are evening out with the majority all within 4 points.

Round 5

We've reached the half-way point! Before I start on another string of very specific round criteria, I'll give you another open round! So send whatever you please! :)

I know what I have to do. I'm sending one as I'm typing. I'm in the middle of moving houses and I'm currently staying and my parents' house, because all the stuff in my own flat is ready to be moved.. I've had a busy week preparing the move and all that, so that's why I haven't sent one yet. Anyway, Jirpo, you should get one within the next 5 minutes, sending by PM with a youtube link, because I don't have my music collection nearby ;)

Round 5

Jingle - Star One - Digital Rain
Pretty solid song with good vocals, a few parts were pretty catchy but overall I felt like I was just waiting for it to finish. The instrumental section was kinda boring with the synth solo. The ending was interesting but to me it dragged on too long. Despite all that it was still decent! :)
3 Points

Gorille - DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt
Very haunting... I loved it! I haven't really heard much of this sort of music before so it was very interesting and different for me. Really cool song with an awesome dark/serious atmosphere. Awesome fact: There was a quiz night a few weeks ago I went to and there was some album covers, this was on there! None of us knew it :p Pretty cool I reckon.
6 Points

Kari - Frightened Rabbit - Keep Yourself Warm
Cool catchy song! Interesting message and lyrics. Just some really cool vocal melodies and the first thing I noticed was the huge Scottish accent! :p Great chorus and overall just a pretty normal but solid song. Can't really think of too much else to say.
5 Points

Ravenheart - Jill Tracey - Evil Night Together
Definitely a decent song, though it didn't captivate me as much as your earlier submissions. Quite a dark song but I found the keys very "bouncy" which detracted from the atmosphere in my opinion, they didn't really suit with the vocals to me. Some cool violin at one point. The vocals were the main highlight here.
4 Points

Wolfking - Blessed by a broken heart - Shut up and rock
Very upbeat and catchy song! I found the song a little repetitive and didn't really like the lyrics or message behind the song that much however and I didn't really connect with it that well. Pretty cool solo particularly towards the end. Some catchy vocal melodies too.
4 Points

Reaper - From Monument To Masses - Beyond Good & Elvis
Great song! Very different from everyone else this round, quite heavy at parts and some cool voice samples which really added to the atmosphere. Some cool transitions between soft and heavier sections too. Nice one!
6 Points

Elite - Mr. Bungle - Ars Moriendi
Definitely a very crazy song! Constant changes in tempo/heaviness and some very interesting vocals made it an entertaining listen. Never really heard anything like this before! I didn't find it spectacular overall though. Thanks for the interesting song!
4 Points

Nekov - Dragon - Sunburst
Really cool song! Quite progressive with a beautiful little intro. Most of it was quite laid-back which I'm not used to in this style of music. The singer had a really nice voice which is always a plus. The song lost points for being a bit too samey throughout. Still really good though!
5 Points

Ravenheart - 35
Reaper - 30
Kari - 29
Wolfking - 27
Nekov - 26
Gorille - 25

Jingle - 18

Hmm ok I guess the second example is a bit different from the first. I'll remove the second example. Just send a song that makes you feel relieved in some way :) I'm not gonna penalise something if it strays from the criteria (unless its stupidly off), I'm interested to see how each of you interprets the rounds in different ways :)

Like I've said before, it only matters how you get relative to the others. I believe in using the full spectrum of scores. 5 is what I am expecting, and obviously I expect quite good songs. So even if you get a 3, I still definitely enjoy the song on some level at least. It's not that I don't like what you guys are sending me by any means, far from it in fact. I've found heaps of great stuff to check out :) Just don't let the scores bother you! If you want to feel better, just add 3 onto everyones scores in your head :lol Same effect.

:lol I'm cool with that. Since I'm bothering you with minor stuff, you should change the thread title to round 5 results in. And cut your hair

I'm totally cool with it to.  As I said in my own roulette, and RJ put so eloquently in his, I don't get all butt-hurt with the scores.  Musical taste is a very unique and individual thing - also, as Nekov is finding out in my roulette!  I think your approach to scoring is just different than my interpretation of a 10 points scale.  For you, you're expecting a 5, and going up down from there.  For me, 5 is average, and then score up/down from there (ie, anything under 5 would be a mediocre or sub-par song).

Let me correct you a little there Jboy, what I'm learning in your roulette is that your musical taste sucks  :P. These roulettes are very interesting not only to find new music but it's also nice to get to see how other people perceive music which in turn might make other people change their perspective.

Ok, sorry Elite. Thanks for participating thus far :)

Ok, will listen to Reaper's once more and post the results when I get back from work (5ish hours). Heres everyone elses if you want:

Round 6

Wolfking - Stratovarius - I'm Still Alive
I've heard a few songs by these guys before and I liked them, and this
was also pretty good. I really liked the vocalist and some really
catchy vocal melodies. Some really cool neoclassical sounding guitar
bits which I really liked. If I had a complaint I would say the
drumming got a little boring at times. To be honest I think you made a
good choice with the band, as all the other Stratovarius songs I've
heard I would rank 1-2 points higher. You just made an unlucky choice
with the song :p Also the song didn't really seem to fit the round criteria that well.
5 Points

Nekov - Von Hertzen Brothers - Bring Out The Sun (So Alive)
Beautiful soothing song, this is really what I was looking for this
round! I loved the layers of vocals that seem to build up and just
wash over you. The song seemed in no hurry to get anywhere which I
thought really suited it. The second half was a little different, but
just as good. Great submission!
7 Points

Jingle - Spocks Beard - At the End of the Day
Wow! A long one :lol I was really hoping it would be good and
thankfully it was. Great choice for the round too. Loved the intro and
the vocals were great throughout the song. I really loved that little
acoustic section at 5:00 in. Also the soloing at 13:00ish was really
great. Good submission, although to be honest the song could have been
some minutes shorter.
6 Points

Gorille - Foxy Shazam - Oh Lord
Cool little spoken words at the start of the song. Another good choice
for the round. Loved the chorus and the vocals were pretty catchy too.
Wierd video though :lol I can't really think of what else to say, just
really loved the vibe the song was giving off. Cool choice!
5 Points

Kari - The Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey
Quite a relieving song!  Very chilled and relaxing for sure. Quite
repetitive which I though helped this song as it really got you into a
soothing rythym.  The vocal style really enhanced that effect. I feel
the song cut off too sharply though which kinda eliminated some of the
mood that it was building up.
5 Points

Ravenheart - Kate Bush - Nocturn
I've looked up one or two of Kate Bush's songs on youtube and quite
liked them, I meant to get into her but that was quite a while ago and
I'd sort of forgotten about her. This was quite different though.
Really loved it! Definitely knocked down the round criteria, some
really beautiful vocals, and I loved how the song seemed to gradually
build up. The ending was especially awesome where the song changed and
the vocals got a little more up beat. Really no criticisms but if I
had to find one I would say, like Kari's submission that it seemed to
end a little too suddenly. Minor complaint though :)
8 Points

I'll post the points standings when I post Reapers results, along with Round 7  in a few hours :)

I'm sorry, I don't understand.  The criteria was to send a song after you found out that you have had a tumor taken out and you are free of cancer and is a huge relief.  I sent a song called I'm Still Alive and the lyrics are;

Look around turn around
You just might fall to the ground
Sail away break away
Damage done nothing to say
All my life I've felt like an outcast
But not anymore, a thing of the past
Feel the sun, got to run
Feels like life has just begun
All is new, different view
So many things that I will do
I'm leaving behind the things I don't need
And with confidence i'm planting the seed

I'm still alive
I'm ready to feel the wind in my hair
And I know there are so many things to share
I will write my story again
Masterplan of a new kind
I was lost but now I'm found
I'm still alive

And it didn't fit the criteria.....

I meant more in terms of the music than the lyrics. But I didn't take any marks off in that respect, it was just a little side comment because obviously everyone would listen to different kind of music in that situation. Don't get me wrong, I still really liked the song :) I didn't penalise anyone this round for not following the round criteria.

Really great pick! Very relaxing and soothing song. I loved the way the instruments combined and the song had a really great sense of flow. Nice one!

Round 7:
Ok, I'll go on a more definitive round criteria this time: I want a song with no drums/electronic beats/percussion anywhere in the song!

If it's a song that originally is known with a full band, but was re-arranged with an "acoustic" version, is that ok?

That's fine, it's your roulette and can run it how ever you want, I didn't take offence, just a little confused.  IMO, I really don't see how the music alone could fit the type of specific criteria from the round without some lyrics being involved, but I'm glad no points were penalised.

Round 7

Due to being really busy with uni, I'm gonna have to call this the last round, sorry guys! I planned on having another round but won't have the time. Highest scoring round!

Gorille - Ulver - Eos
Wow! Really loved this song! Really great dark atmosphere and the the vocals just seemed so devoid of hope, really deep sounding song. Definitely will be checking this out! Took me on a little journey! :tup
8 Points

Jingle - Eagles - Seven Bridges Road
Cool submission! Really liked the vocals and I loved when the acoustic guitar came in. Great vocal melodies throughout! Don't really know what else to say, it was quite a nice simple song :)
5 Points

Ravenheart - The Faith and the Muse - The Sea Angler
I loved this one! Swept me away, loved how it all worked together and built up an incredible atmosphere. The vocals were amazing as was the keys throughout the song!
8 Points

Kari - Fleet Foxes - Tiger Mountain
I already know a little Fleet Foxes because they are my friends favourite band, but I'd never gotten around to properly listening to them, and this kinda situation has popped up many times in my roulette so far so I just decided to let it pass. Anyway, really cool folky-rock stuff with some awesome guitar and sweet vocals! Loved the ending to the song.
6 Points

Reaper - Michael Kelsey - The Free Spirit
Cool acoustic work! You've sent me a few songs similar sounding to this but this was the best! Some really great parts, though I didn't like the ending as much as the rest.
5 Points

Wolfking - Vanishing Point - As I Reflect
Very touching song! The vocals were really sad sounding, as was the keyboard work which was superb throughout. Loved the little acoustic in the middle section there too. The singer had a really great voice. Will check this out for sure!
8 Points

Nekov - Arena - The Offering
Like you said, a really relaxing soothing tune. Cool woodwind instrumentation. Not sure what else to say, but just great relaxing music.
5 Points

Final Scores:

Ravenheart - 51
Reaper - 42
Kari - 40
Wolfking - 40
Nekov - 38
Gorille - 38
Jingle - 29

Thanks everyone for playing! I discovered heaps of cool music and I really enjoyed listening to the responses you guys came up with for each round, but I'm sorry if it wasn't the most original rouletee. Don't hate me for all the low scores! :p Thanks again everyone!! :)
