Title: QUEENSRYCHE Survivor 2012 - Hear In The Now Frontier - Round 1
Post by: The Silent Cody on March 29, 2012, 01:04:01 AM
HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER (1997)

Hear in the Now Frontier is the sixth studio album by Queensr˙che, released in 1997. It was partly recorded at Studio Litho in Seattle, the home studio of Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, and was engineered and mixed by Toby Wright, who had recently worked with Alice In Chains. The album debuted at #19 but quickly vanished from the charts. Hear in the Now Frontier features a more basic, stripped down musical style than anything the band had released to date, and some fans and critics pointed to the grunge genre - rooted in Seattle, near where Queensr˙che formed - as being a major influence. Despite the reaction, the singles "Sign of the Times" and "You" received substantial airplay.

Decent rock album. Without any question, a drop in the high standard set by Queensryche. "All I Want" is pure tripe. Chris, when playing with Queensryche, leave the singing to the master.

This is where I bow out. I've only heard Sign Of The Times and You.

All I Want, but I also don't like Sign Of The Times at all...

Can I choose all?  :P It's so hard to pick one to eliminate considering all songs are truly bad.

Anyway, the worse of the worst: The Voice Inside.  :yeahright

This really isn't fair IMO.  This record isn't for everyone but there are a lot of songs on the album which are good, it's just different and it doesn't compare to old QR.  A couple of songs are bad, I agree, but I really enjoy this album, and if you take it for what it is, it's a great little rock album.

I vote for Miles Away.

Awww, Miles Away is one of my favorites from this album--I find it very soothing. Why aren't you guys voting for GET A LIFE?!?! C'mon, it's the obvious choice here. That or Cuckoo's Nest.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Get a Life, Saved, You and All I Want are the ones I remember as being the most objectionable.  Some People Fly ain't much better, although that has hints of classic QR in there, making me think a little more work could have made this a good song.  I voted for Get a Life.

The obvious standouts are The Voice Inside, Hero, Anytime/Anywhere and spOOl.

Also, I HATE the sound of this album.  It just sounds so flat and empty.  It is an album devoid of character.

Easily All I Want.

I originally only liked about 4 songs from this album...now I like a couple more.  So half the album is OK, and half the album is pure crap.

I LOVE Some People Fly and Sp00l.   A few others are really good.   I really don't care how this survivor goes as long as Some People Fly wins...it really deserves to.  It's really the only song on the entire album that I would include in a "Best Of" compilation.

I'm in the minority on this album.  But I do not like Hero.

Miles Away has the most horrible QR-chorus I've heard. And it's fucking bland.

Cuckoo's Nest is awesome! It's in my top 5 from this album!

All I Want, it can go. It would've been my next choice.

And Get a Life is quite bad.

The obvious standouts are The Voice Inside, Hero, Anytime/Anywhere and spOOl.

Ha, I don't really care about those three. Especially the first.

Also, I HATE the sound of this album.  It just sounds so flat and empty.  It is an album devoid of character.

True. Miles Away has no spirit, and Reach should be more agressive (though I like it a lot as this version).

This is where I bow out. I've only heard Sign Of The Times and You.

Give it a spin. Or at least listen to spOOL.
