I've been hearing this song on the radio at work, so I decided to look it up. Holy fuck, it's so awesome. Her vocals are absolutely fantastic.
Rolling in the Deep (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw&ob=av3e)
This song is also really good, not as upbeat. Different mood, but still fantastic.
Someone Like You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLQl3WQQoQ0)
-
I've barely listened to her, but my band has tried out Set Fire To The Rain at rehearsals.

I liked Rolling in the Deep when it came out. And then it got overplayed on the radio. And then we got these new TVs installed at work to play stupid cool stuff for the customers, and they played that music video every half hour. And then we found out the TVs were installed wrong, meaning that instead of getting updates with new content every week or so, they would continue playing the same content until the company figured out how to fix the problem.
Adele. Every half hour. Fifty hours a week. For two months.
I fucking hate that song.
-
I first heard her album in February or whenever it came out last year, and I really enjoyed it.
But I mean, with Rolling in the Deep being played 300 times a day, everywhere it started to get slightly annoying, and while I would probably still enjoy her album, the radio-songs have been so overplayed that it's not even fun.
-
Adele? Isn't that a computer?
-
Never heard one of her songs. No radio exposure ftw.
I put her on my to-hear list though, as she sounds like something I'd probably be into.

I watched her new concert DVD from the Royal Albert Hall this weekend with my girlfriend; it was really good! Some of her songs are a little blah, but she has enough solid tunes and covers to make up for it.

As for the song, I dig it.
-
I think her vocals is good, but I really don't like her music except for Set fire to the rain.
-
I've only heard three of her songs:
Rolling in the Deep is a cool song.
Someone Like You isn't too bad, but I hear it everywhere I go now.
Chasing Pavements is pretty forgettable.
So yeah, Rolling in the Deep is definitely the best of what I've heard, although it is not a song I want to hear a lot.
-
I'm not a fan, but it's nice to see someone with actual vocal talent topping the charts and getting so many views on Youtube.
-
I actually don't care for the studio version of "Someone Like You", but the live versions are spectacular. She changes the chorus up a bit in concert. There are a ton of clips on YouTube. Very powerful.
-
I hate everything about Linkin Park, but holy crap. This actually impressed me.

-
I'm tired of Rolling In The Deep, but I like Set Fire To The Rain, especially the Skrillex remix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPSQJtQxw_k
(The second half of the video is just silent, WTF)
EDIT: Apparently not a remix done by Skrillex but still good.
-
I'm not a fan, but I think she's ok.
she just seems odd to me when she sings, though. If you watch her music videos or w/e, she has this big, powerful voice and sound coming from her, and her face/lips/body are hardly moving
it just seems off to me. she hardly even changes her expression
-
The music videos are probably lip-synced.
-
She's alright. I'm really sick of some of her songs, but they're not bad by any means. Her music is pretty bland and uninteresting but she definitely has a nice voice, and sometimes it's enough to carry the weight and make her enjoyable.
-
I love her cover of "I Can't Make You Love Me"

After seeing bon iver's rendition, all others pale in comparison :P
But anyway I like alot of her stuff. Can't wait to see where her career leads :)
-
She's definetely very talented. And doesn't seem to be bothered by her appearance overly, like most 'artists' nowadays.
-
The music videos are probably lip-synced.
no doubt
but don't people at least try to make it seem like they're singing?

Most people do, but I guess Adele doesn't. I haven't seen any of her music videos though.
-
My thoughts on Adele: meh
-
And doesn't seem to be bothered by her appearance overly, like most 'artists' nowadays.
I'm not sure what you're referring to: the fact that she's on the "full-figured" side? I think she's very attractive. Very pretty face. I never really care about the size of someone if they have a pretty face, unless they are grossly obese. In which case, they don't ever have a beautiful face.

:lol
Yeah, I liked that one song at first but I am so sick of it between working in retail and just going out in public.
-
I love Rolling in the Deep. There are some good acapella covers on youtube, works really well that way as well.
-
I liked the Linkin Park cover, but I couldn't get through the real song. From what I sampled, she sounds like typical bluesy stuff. Nothing ground breaking or even that interesting. Quite amazing she has 200 million views on youtube as I've never seen that many views on a video, but her music is nothing special, and I'm not sure what warrants the popularity. Oh, popular music, I'll never understand you.
-
But you listen to Symphony X and Disturbed.
-
But you listen to Symphony X and Disturbed.
And you listen to System of a Down. What's your point?
Besides the obvious 5/8 wannabe trolling.
-
lol
-
I like her music, and I still like Rolling In The Deep I don't give a fuck.
-
Yeah, working in retail really killed Adele for me. Rolling In The Deep is a good song, but I've heard it too much. They also keep playing another song by her, and I've always hated it.
-
Set Fire to the Rain is incredibly good.

I like Adele. As has been noted its good to see someone with actual musical ability and talent topping the charts. Unfortunately in this world of marketing and sales when something sells It will be pushed to it's max. So I understand some of you being put off by that.
Off of 21 I like "Rolling in the Deep", "Turning Tables", "Set Fire to the Rain", "He Won't Go", "I'll Be Waiting", "Someone Like You" all a good bit and the rest of the songs aren't bad either.
-
"21" was, hands down, the best 2012 album. She's my favourite new artist. She's amazing in all ways.
-
Her songwriters could be better.
-
She wrote her own stuff on "19"
-
Her songwriters could be better.
In 19, maybe. But I think in 21 she got pretty strong. She created good imagery that transmitted powerful emotions. I do expect, however, stronger quality lyrics by the time 24 is released.
-
To be honest I really like "Set Fire To The Rain" but that's all for me. Because of this damn radio and television media, they force me to listen that girl every fucking time when I turn them on.
-
She's one of the better "mainstream"-artists for sure, and compared to many others I think she really has a talent.
Sadly there's still the problem of hearing her everywhere and all the time, which eventually makes me a bit sick of the music. "Rolling in the Deep" is not a bad song, but after hearing it 3000 times in 2011, I never want to hear it again. :lol
-
21 is a fantastic album that needs to be heard from start to finish to truly understand it as it does tell a story about her breakup with her boyfriend. You start out with Rolling In The Deep which has the feelings of anger and as the album progresses, she goes from anger and vengeance to loneliness and isolation to acceptance.
For that reason and that I identify with it, I truly love this album
-

I think the lyrics are fine for what they are, I was talking more about the actual music. She has good songs but I wouldn't say her albums are great yet.
-
I find her voice grating/unpleasant
Now if you don't mind I'm going to go listen to Napalm Death

I would love to hear Barney's normal voice narrate Rolling In The Deep

My wife has the Adele CD in the car and I like it cause it made me reminisce about how in 1997 I also didn't get why Celine Dion was impressing everyone.

Interviewer: If you are in the mood and you don’t have a boyfriend, what do you do?
Adele: Uhm, I just go to sleep.
Interviewer: But you have to do it!
Adele: No, you don’t have to do it.
Interviewer: But it’s good for you!
Adele: It’s good for you but you don’t have to do it … I don’t really want to talk about masturbating on TV when there’s cameras.
Interviewer: I was not talking about masturbating, I was talking about singing!
Adele: Oh my god.
:lol :lol

Only in my country... :lol
-
I like a few songs, and recently bought the ones I do like.
However some are way too overplayed, I just can't listen to them anymore.
-
Adele comes across as much more genuine that most of her peers, IMO. I dig the 60's/70's vibe to her music as well... it's got a "classy" kind of feel, which is refreshing compared to Katy Perry, Ke$ha, etc...
-
Funny, the term "overplayed" shouldn't be applied to people in this forum. If I find an Adele song "overplayed" it will be my fault.

It's not only up to the listener. Some songs are played in trailers, in movies, at restaurants and many other places. "Rolling in the Deep" is a great example of a song that was just everywhere in 2011. It wasn't like I wanted to hear it all the time, but since it popped up everywhere, obviously it resulted in becoming overplayed.
-
I love Adele. I actually haven't grown tired of the "overplaying" one bit, so everything's just nice.
-
Someone Like You seems to be far more overplayed than anything else I've heard by her. I had never heard the song until a few months ago, and then, I swear, I heard it at like four or five different public places in the week after that. :lol Makes me think I had probably had heard it before I knew who it was and what the name of the song was.
-
So I finally gave in and bought 21.
I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about and see if she lived up to her reputation and I must say that the album is pretty fantastic and since I don't listen to the radio, all of it sounds fresh. Also, that Cure cover is hot.
-
Set Fire to the Rain is amazing, rest is meh.

Pretty good for a Bond song, but seems like she could have done it bit more in the song
-
I think they tried too hard to make it sound "Bond-like." But it's not bad.
-
Anyone heard the new song 'Hello' by Adele, I can't get it out of my head such a powerful vocal performance.
-

Yeah, I've listened to it once and its been stuck in my head. Great vocals, looking forward to hearing the album.
-
Haven't listened to it yet but I will be picking up the new album. Great vocalist and seems like genuinely cool person.
-
I can't wait for this album. I love Adele.
She deserves all the hype and the love she gets.
-
I had to write a lead-sheet for a contemporary hit song for my university classes and I chose this song :|
-
21 was easily the biggest album of the decade so far, possibly even the century, so it will be fascinating to see how the new one does. It's similar to when Michael Jackson had to follow up Thriller.
-
Fun fact: I'm 9 years older than Adele but look 9 years her junior.
(by my math, that's a whopping 18 year swing)
-
I think this song will be the TOP song of the charts for the Fall. Amazing performance by Adele, once again. Her voice is simply so powerful. It's amazing how i can go from listening to the latest Symphony X album right to Adele's new song. My son looks at me like i'm nuts. But you whether you like the song or not, you can't deny Adele's talent. Powerful, emotional song. It made me go back and watch the video for "someone like you" from a VERY emotional performance.
Hard to watch and NOT cry.

-
Man, I love Hello, great song.
-
Anyone else pick up her new album? I'm underwhelmed to be honest. About 6 good songs and the rest do nothing for me. Typical Adele album I guess.
-
What kind of cocaine is being added to her songs?
I mean, they are decent songs, but I don't see how they justify the mass hysteria (new album sold 2.3 millions in under a week). And the new single "Hello" left me cold, and even a bit annoyed.
This whole Adele thing is a mystery to me.

Well, at least Adele has her voice to back her up. Her live version of "Someone Like You" at the Grammy's a couple years ago was amazing. That woman can SING. I hear you, though, it's the same song (i.e. lamenting the break up with that one guy; his c*** must be a mile long, or HE has the blow, one of the two) but it resonates.
The one that I don't get is Sam Smith. I don't like Adele's songs, but her voice is velvet. Sam Smith's voice makes my kidney's curdle. I would hate to thing it is all PC nonsense, but it is hard not to.
-
I listened to "Hello" last night to see what all the buzz was about. Good song, but was this song written in the 1990s? The lyric "But when I call you never seem to be home" is just so weird. People use cell phones now. They don't have to be home to use a phone.
-
Have you guys listened to the new album yet?
I have, and it's amazing. One of my favorites so far from 2015.
-
There seem to be many Swifties here, as well as some.. Del Reyies? :lol Surprised no one has mentioned the new Adele album.
I'm really not an Adele fan - or should I say I really wasn't. Because of all the great pop Queens that released albums this year - Taylor, Billie, Dua Lipa, Lana - I think Adele knocked it out of the park the most. It's the first album that broke my 10 day Big Big Train listening session honoring David Longdon.
David Campbell's arrangements are subtle and on point (the same who worked on The Astonishing). Adele's voice is matured and her vocals are out of this world.
Moving album. My personal dramatic highlight is My Little Love.
Anyone heard this?
-
Heard it once, that was enough. She has a great natural talent, but oversings way too much. Easy On Me plays at work now like every day in the background and has already reached cringe status for me. It's like she goes into these songs and thinks, "Okay, I need to demonstrate in every line how awesome my voice is," and then oversings that crap out of it. Many love it, so that I am in the minority, I suppose. I still dig Rolling in the Deep, though.

I've been listening to it since release day, it's hauntingly beautiful. The track 'To Be Loved' is probably my favorite, her vocal performance on that is phenomenal.

Maybe she overdoes it at times, but still has a ton of dynamics and color shading, so I love it. This seems to be a case where the mainstream digs her, and the underground considers her overhyped. In this case I concur with the mainstream. I don't get why her albums have such low ratings on Rate Your Music, especially compared to say, Taylor Swift's recent ones, since she was name-dropped a few posts ago, not that they're that stylistically similar. For me this is another really solid one.
My personal dramatic highlight is My Little Love.

Love those too, though I'm worried that the cathartic soliloquy in the middle of "My Little Love" is going to become grating after a few listens. At least half the album is really good, but I also adored "Oh My God" and "All Night Parking" in particular.
-
I've not heard it all the way through yet. I've never listened to an album of hers all the way through but have dipped in and out a few times. She has an extraordinary voice.
There was an "evening with" televised the other week and when she got to the chorus of Hello the hairs on the back of my neck went up and I broke into a sweat. Beyond great.
-

No. I'm right there with you and I said almost exactly that to my daughter earlier this week. She is CLEARLY a great technical singer, but it's not for me. I HATE that melismatic style of singing, and would much rather listen to a more legato style (Sting, Elton John, Ann Wilson, Taylor Swift, Neal Morse, etc.)
-
It's Adele basically you know how it's going to sound - it's just a case of how strong the songs are built behind THAT voice. This time I think it's a weaker collection - certainly there aren't as many earworms as 21 which remains a stone cold classic.
Regarding her over singing, she's not like Mariah or Whitney who for me are classic over singers, elongating every word often into shrillness. I just think Adele has a lovely warm tone to her voice.
-
I thought it was a good album. Probably my favorite from Adele, TBH. Definitely fewer "hits" than the prior albums, but I love the sound.
Unlike most pop albums, there isn't very much autotuning on her voice, or even redubs or quantizing on the instruments. There are a lot of very small imperfections throughout, which I love. Given the subject matter of a good chunk of the album, the imperfections make the recording more perfect, IMO.
