Title: Recreate Labrie's F# in Learning to Live!
Post by: Gadough on September 17, 2011, 09:34:00 PM
Use this website: https://www.vocaroo.com (or Youtube) to record yourself singing the infamous F# from Learning to Live. This should be pretty fun to hear everyone attempting it. :tup

This was originally going to be a contest, but the possibility of having more than 10 people or so participating would mean the voting would have to be bracketed, which would be more trouble than it's worth. Also everyone would likely just vote for themselves. So now, it's a "just for fun" thing.

Everyone's attempts will be listed here in the OP for convenience.

Horrible rendition.  First of all, that was in fucking G#.  Not F#, motherfucker, G#.  It's shit like this, Joe.  Secondly, your voice is abysmal.  Your vocal technique (or lack there of) is horrid and your breath control is nearly as weak.  Learn to sing from your diaphragm and I might take you seriously.  Might.

:lol Yeah, so I am not really a singer, but I actually tried my best... And I don't want to hurt my voice, so I am an octave lower (at least). However, I gotta admit, recording this was quite a bit of fun!

Edit: TURN DOWN VOLUME! And yeah, no webcam...

The point in the border between what I can produce with my chest voice and falsetto is terrible... please bear with me:

Ok:
https://vocaroo.com/?media=vPBuCIYDarBC2Q0H3 (https://vocaroo.com/?media=vPBuCIYDarBC2Q0H3)
At least I held the note for a little bit. My falsetto doesn't sound all too good above the E5, or it doesn't even sound good at all - but significantly worse up there. This was pretty much all falsetto too, but whatever.

I didn't have speakers that could play it loud enough so I didn't hear the song. It was hard getting it in sync and in perfect pitch.

As you can hear I'm not a vocalist and I have a quite poor technique, especially when I try singing in the stratosphere...

well, I think most of us can reach the F# in some way. But the notes leading up to the f# is quite hard because most of us have to switch registers two times or so.

We need more recordings of the F#, guys!  :metal

Two times? Just the once really, but since it goes right through the passaggio I guess you could say it's chest voice into mixed chest-head then into pure head voice if you're doing it correctly, in which case it should sound like one connected voice (although there are often obvious tonal differences between head and chest voice).

Of course, there may be a few castratos/pre-pubescents/girls out there who can do it all in chest voice.

If I'm not wtf-pwning my larynx I'm already in mixed at the start of the run anyway since my voice wasn't really built to go that high (I can hit the F# but only by making a noise you'd use to disperse angry mobs). Thin Lizzy songs are more my register :)

jag66, that is a nice try. The two first parts were very promising because you managed singing it without sounding too strained. I was actually sure you were going to hit the f# , but you didnt :p sounds like you actually were too high Was close though... Btw I like the tone of your voice as well :).

I feel like I can hit everything prior to the F# pretty well (though obviously straining), but even in falsetto, I can't really hit that final note. I'm certainly no tenor, though.

Brilliant topic. Just because I don't have a singing voice I had to make a stereo version! I can only reach up there or higher (in falsetto of course) in the morning, later in the day I'm nowhere near it. I don't/can't sing anyway, so it's not really a problem though  :)

It's pretty much perfect, except my voice is really strained, I have a lot of trouble rising from the beginning to the end, I don't actually hit the F5, I'm completely out of tune, and I can't sing at all.

But other than that.
