Title: Obfuscation's Song Roulette v. You Better Believe It!!!!!!!
Post by: Obfuscation on September 15, 2011, 03:53:26 PM
So now it's my turn to start my roulette and these are the awesome people that are going to participate in it.

- dethklok09
- PuffyPat
- YtseBitsySpider
- jingle.boy
- Gorille85
- TheKingInCrimson
- zxlkho
- DTVT

First, let me tell you guys that YtseBitsySpider already sent me a message saying that his modem died on him and won't be able to send me anything for the next 2-3 days. So that means that this round will be a bit longer than usual since I will wait for him.

Anyway, this roulette will only be 5 rounds and the scoring system that I will use is 1-5 points system. That way the scores will be closer throughout the whole roulette and it will be anybody's game to win at anytime.

So for this first round, just send me anything you want.  ;D Make my head explode with awesomeness please.

Ahh I forgot to mention something about that. No I don't have one and prefer to keep it that way so you guys will just send me whatever you want and not something based off what I listen to regularly.

First of all, you have 7 people playing, so as King of the Roulette Players (as the first two time winner and 3 time runner up, I am entitled to this title) I am inserting myself as the 8th player.  Haters go hate.

Second of all, how do you want the songs, PM's of links or actual emails?

I don't really mind but would prefer PM but you can also send me an email if you like.

Well IDK what you listen to regularly.
That's the whole point.

Thank's O, and thanks for patience everyone.
I'm at work now, but big fire walls no youtube or emailing out of office, hell DTF barely loads on IE 3 or whatever I'm running here...with no java.

Ok, I found a used router/modem thingy, and I'm picking it up at lunch I'm no techy but I should be able to have my house back and connected by this evening and hopefully a song sent by late saturday ish or Sunday if all goes well.

I can't view lastfm here at work either - blocked-er-oony.

I'm a TWO time champion.  and Quadrafail's doesn't count since it didn't last long before he committed Arceaus-cide.  It's like baseball, you have to get to the mid-way point.

You did win mine, so that's worth 1.5 wins.

I am having some problem right now so I doubt I will post the results today but I will definitely have them up by tomorrow. But to keep the ball rolling, please send me your round two songs now. This time send me something heavy that would make want to walk up to people and push them to the ground. Also sorry for not putting them up today if I don't.

I've got tons. My tastes currently go:

Power Metal
Scream-O-clean vocal core type metal
Prog Metal
fusion prog instrumental stuff
straight prog

Post by: Obfuscation on September 19, 2011, 01:46:46 PM
Well now, I guess it's time for the results. You guys did not make this easy on me since all of the songs were good and very hard for me to give them a strong score. The scores for these songs may change later on for me the more I listen to them, but this is how they stand right now.

5
zxlkho - Bug Eyes by dredg
I have to say that you got really lucky with this submission of the song since I recently got this album since someone told me to listen to it but I havn't and you got a 5 with it. I don't why but this song just made me feel happy when I heard throughout all of it. Also what I least expected to think that I would from this song was the bass which I really enjoyed. Not that good of an explanation for a song that got a 5 this round but that's just the way I feel about it.

Gorille85 - Unsolved Ideas of a Distorted Guest by Unexpect
WHAT THE FUCK!!!??????? Yeah so that's what I was basically thinking while listening to this song. It was a what the fuck this is awesome what the fuck. Sometimes I don't enjoy songs that are all over the place but i did enjoy this one. The female volcalist has some kickass clean and harsh vocals and the musicians are really something amazing throughout the whole song. It may be a random song but i think it does it's job in painting whatever pciture they wanted to project in this song.

4
jingle.boy - Human See, Human Do by Star One
Now this song was really interesting to and I thought was going to be different by the way it started. When the song got rolling though, I couldn't help but headbang to it and hear how awesome it was. The only reason I see this song getting a 4 is beacuse at first I didn't like one the vocals that the song had but it has started to grow on me and I am starting to hear how it fits with the song. I will defitnitly check out this band more.

dethklok09 - I'm Down with Brown Town by Dance Gavin Dance
A friend of mine was told me about this band but I never took the time to listen to one of their songs. As of right now I am regretting that I didn't since this song really showed me how awesome this band can be. I also like the singer or singers in this song. Sorry I havn't been able to check if they have more than one singer in the band.

3
The King in Crimson - Farewell Mona Lisa by The Dillinger Escape Plan
Another band I had heard of but never listened to one of their songs. Now I have to say that this songs was really fun to listen to but after a couple of listens I started to get a bit bored of it. I really enjoy bands like this but I usually listen to them only once in a while but I have to say that the intro to the song is awesome. Case closed.

YtseBitsySpider - Impact by Axxess - Maxxess
A am a big fan of instrumentals so I was really excited to hear this song when I found out it was an instrumental. The song is just like you said to me when you sent me the song. It is quiet, calm, and interesting. The thing is for me though that the song is just I don't know, missing a section in it that really makes me go WOW!!!!!!!....very nice indeed. The song is one that I will be listening to more and more and to see if it grows on me more.

2
PuffyPat - Phyrigia by Adam Rogers
I really hate to score this song this low since it is a good jazz song. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoy listening to jazz and this song was one of them. It heard some nice jazz guitar solos and I enjoyed the saxophone solo it has as well. I don't know why though but it just didn't capture my attention that much though. I can't say anything else about this song only that it is a jazz song that I should listen to more.

DTVT - Elegy by Intronaut
This was one of the harder songs for me to give a score to since I thought I was being to harsh on it. I liked the way the song started and how it was going. I also liked the guitars tone on this song. While listening to it though, going toward the end of the song, I started to get a bit bored. It's a cool song in all but it seems to be a song I wouldn't listen to very often. I will go and check out some more songs of the band to though since they sound really interesting.

Standings
5 - zxlkho, Gorille85
4 - jingle.boy, dethklok09
3 - The King in Crimson, YtseBitsySpider
2 - PuffyPat, DTVT

I have to say that this was an awesome round and can't wait to hear your songs for round two.  :metal

Star One is an Arjen Lucassen project, letting out his heavy side.  Only 2 albums - Space Metal (all about Sci Fi movies) and Victims of the Modern Age (all about futuristic/distopian movies).  Glad you enjoyed.  I'll enjoy my 4 points this round, cuz I'm pretty certain it ain't repeating itself for round 2.

Edit:  In case you didn't know, Human See, Human Do is Arjen's interpretation of Planet of the Apes.  Makes the song even more enjoyable IMO.

Sorry for not keeping up with my promise but school is really getting in the way right now so not much time for me to spend on this site. But anyway, here are the results for round two!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the descriptions or reasons why won't long this time since I didn't have time to write this and just wasted some writing this.  :-[

5
YtseBitsySpider - Stabbing the Drama by Soilwork
I just couldn't stop or get rid of the feeling of headbanging to this song while listening to it. I never got bored of it at all when I would listen to it.

DTVT - Fucking Hostile by Pantera
Well I have never been a big Pantera fan and have only heard a couple of songs from them. Mostly the ones everybody knows about but I had never heard this song. Thanks to this song, I really wish I would've listen to them more before. Is this song heavy as fuck??????? Yes.  :tup

Gorille85 - Vacuity by Gojira
I had heard of this band many times but never listened to one of their songs and this song was just badass from beginning to end. Made me feel angry when listening to it  >:( >:( >:( I also felt awesome while listening to it lol.

4
dethklok09 - Eversion by Dismember the Fallen
I only listen to bands like this once in a while because for some reason I can really get bored of them pretty fast. Now this band sounds awesome already with this just being what their debut EP or something like that??? Well I liked it bottom line and will definitively keep my eye on your friend's band of course.

The King in Crimson - The Egoism by Fleshgod Apocalypse
I only listen to technical death metal for the same reason as the one I stated above. When I listen to bands like this, I only usually listen to one song at a time and they have to be really good songs. This was one of those songs.

3
PuffyPat - Never Forgive, Never Forget by The Dear Hunter
Now this is a band I have seen quite a good number of people of this site talking about. This song was good but never really got me going   :omg: :omg: I am going to check them out more later and give them another chance to see if I will like them more.

zxlhko - 9 to 5 At the Morgue by Dog Fashion Disco
I have listened to Polkadot Cadaver before and really like them so I was very excited to listen to this song. I did like it but I don't know, but it just didn't click with me that much. Maybe I would enjoy it better if I listened to it or saw it live just like you said you did.

2
jingle.boy - Get the Fuck Out by Skid Row
Now the only reason why this song got a 2 is because I have never really liked or more like enjoyed listening to much to bands like these. I did enjoy this song more though than I usually do when listening to bands like this.

1
Yet again, not a single song received a 1. Let's keep it that way.

Standings
10 -  Gorille85
9 -
8 - zxlkho, dethklok09, YtseBitsySpider
7 - The King in Crimson, DTVT
6 - jingle.boy
5 - PuffyPat

Whoa, three-way tie for 6.

For the next round, send me a song you would listen to on a grey, rainy day if that makes any sense to you.

That song is not an accurate representation of them at all. That was part of the something that they did called the Color Spectrum where they made an EP for each color on the color spectrum with the music corresponding to each color. I recommend checking out Act III: Life and Death, but any of the Acts will do.

jingle.boy - Get the Fuck Out by Skid Row
Now the only reason why this song got a 2 is because I have never really liked or more like enjoyed listening to much to bands like these. I did enjoy this song more though than I usually do when listening to bands like this.

Don't misinterpret this quasi rant as anything other than advice/a request.  I'm not bothered by the dislike or the low ranking - I already said that I was gonna score low this round, but it's a *song* roulette, not a band roulette.  Listen with open ears kid, otherwise you aren't likely gonna enjoy much of what I have.  Ok?  Lose your preconceived notions of what kind of music you think you're gonna hear from "bands like these".  And btw, while Skid Row's s/t album is glam, Slave to the Grind was as heavy as anything from the 90s.  You don't feel like pushing people to the ground after hearing screams of "GET THE FUCK OUT"?  Oh well.

Round 3 sent.

Yeah that is what I though as well so that is why I told myself to go check out some of their other stuff afterwards.

I did listen with to open ears and actually did enjoy it more than I usually do. Yuo are correct in that I shouldn't of said "bands like these", but since I didn't have time to write a better description for the song. Also just because it got a 2 doesn't mean I hate or it doesn't make me do anything, it just that were a couple of songs that I enjoyed more than that one. Also I think it's beacuse I always tell people to, "GET THE FUCK OUT!!!"

I should have 7 points, not 6.  2 in the first round, 5 in the second.
Sorry about that, I was in a hurry.

Alrighty then. Here are the results for round three. The reasons why in this round will be shorter than ever before just because ok.

5
zxlkho - Forget Not by Ne Obliviscaris
It started off with some nice spanish guitar and then some violin came in. *For some reason I always like violins in lots of songs* Then when the drums would kick in, this song would just fire on all cylinders. The soft and slow moments I really would like to hear in a rainy day so yeah.

dethklok09 - Helena's Beat by Foster the People
This song has a great beat that I really enjoy. Once I listened to it I couldn't stop and it would get stuck in my head all day. I really like the chorus as well. A song to listen to to feel better on gray, gloomy days for me now.

4
PuffyPat - Wake Up, Decide by Karate
This is a great song to listen to on a rainy day. It is a very simple song with some relaxing guitars.

The King in Crimson - ...And The Great Cold Death of The Earth
I wasn't expecting a song like this in this round but it was a good submission. In quite a bit of parts in the song, it really set the mood of a cold, gray day on earth. I needed my sweater to finish listening to the song.

3
Gorille85 - Collapse the Light into Earth by Porcupine Tree
This song has a great piano piece all the time. Even though I don't know how to play the piano, I am going to learn this song on it. The song did achieve the mood it was trying to set and for some reason I like the lyrics even though they are pretty short.

YtseBitsySpider - Deadman by Karnivool
I really like the intro of this song and pretty much all of it was well. The instrumental sections of song are nice as well. I wouldn't necessarily listen to this ssong on a rainy day but I really like it so it got a 3.

2
jingle.boy - That's the Way by Led Zeppelin
A nice slow song that is mostly only guitar but manages to keep my attention all the way. Can't really say much about this song besides that I would only listen to it once a very long while.

DTVT - ...And Then The Rain by Cloudscape
I enjoyed the guitars in the song and the other instruments were good as well. For some reason it didn't feel like a song that I would like to listen to on a rainy day but would listen to any other time.

1
No song for this place again. Awesome!!!

Standings
13 - zxlkho, dethklok09, Gorille85
12 -
11 - YtseBitsySpider, The King in Crimson
10 -
9 - DTVT, PuffyPat
8 - jingle.boy

Now there is a three-way tie for first. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well we still have 2 more rounds so it's still anybody's game. Now for round four, sned me a song that is the opposite of this previous round. Send me something that would just brighten to your day and make you feel happy and give free hugs to everybody you saw on the street.

Glad you enjoyed that song, it's one of my favorites from Agalloch.

I have a few 'good' ideas for this round. Gotta let them roll around and ferment a bit.

No, it's just the I sent song always makes me super happy. For example, the Red Sox were eliminated from the Playoffs and I was crushed. I was FUCKING PISSED. Then, I saw the results, and the next category and was like "FUCK YES! I HAVE THE PERFECT SONG!" I sent it to you, and then listened to it, along with the rest of the album that it's on, and now I'm not so sad anymore. It's literally the best song for this category. The title alone makes me smile and want to give people hugs. If it can do that for me, it can sure as hell do it for you.

Why the fuck do I take so long is a question not even I can answer to myself but let's continue shall we. Actually I had the hardest time rating most of these songs. Just about every single one made me happy and how can you give a low score to a song that makes you happy is just unspeakable. Anyway moving one.

5
PuffyPat - Alligator Bop by A Great Big Pile of Leaves
Congratulations!!! You did it!!! You got a 5!!! This song is just about perfect for anybody who want s to hear a happy song. I kept on replaying it over and over again because that's how much I was enjoying it. Now it's time to just go and check out the rest of their stuff as well as giving out free hugs while listening to this song.

The King In Crimson - Don't Stop Me Now by Queen
Ah yes Queen. Very great band in my opinion but never have listened to most of their stuff. I had never heard of this song and I am trying to find out why because it is a great song. "Don't Stop Me, Don't Stop Me, Oooooo-ooo-oooo!!!"

4
Gorille85 - Count Me Out by Foxy Shazam
Let me say this first and get it out of the way. I really like the singer's voice. Done. I have never listened to music like that but this song is making want to listen to it some more. I just hope I find songs as good as this one but I think that will be very hard. Also the song has a nice chorus.

dethklok09 - Interlude by Attack Attack!
Short and awesome. I love it. If this song was any longer, it would probably lose some of it's charm. This song is perfect to use in many occasions that I couldn't stop thinking about were to use it while listening to it.

DTVT - She's Always Singing by The Dear Hunter
What is up with this band. Every song that I have listened from them sounds as if they were a different band. I mean that in a good way of course. This was a very simple straight-forward song and I enjoyed it. Now I really have to check out everything this band has done.

YtseBitsySpider - In the Summertime by Derek Sherinian
Well I wasn't expecting this from him and I actually liked it even if it had Slash in it *who I think is somewhat overrated* I wish was about to start instead of fall so I could listen to this song in the summertime. 8see what I did there* I think what I most enjoyed from this song was the very happy sounding melody the piano was playing.

3
jingle.boy - Flying High by Freedom Call
I guess you were a bit right in saying that our tastes aren't really that close to each other but it doesn't mean that the songs who have sent me are bad. I really did enjoy this song but the only part in this song that really made me happy was the chorus. The rest of the time I was just waiting for the chorus to come up again. Maybe if it was in a different round or category I would've rated it higher.

2
None.

1
zxlhko - Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine
Dude what happened in this round. So far in the three songs you sent me before I really enjoyed them but not this one. I don't know but it just didn't make me feel happy like the other songs did at all. Maybe I listenend it to with the wrong mentality or expectations but it didn't click for me. I'm sorry.

Standings
17 - dethklok09, Gprille85
16 - The King in Crimson
15 - ytseBitsySpider
14 - PuffyPat, zxlkho
13 - DTVT
12 -
11 -  jingle.boy

You guys should listen to the songs that that you guys listened to me and have fun listening them like I did. Like I said before, for the final round of this roulette it will be open again.  :P

No, but now I feel like a hypocrite because I called someone else out in another roulette about resubmitting a band from a previous round that scored well; even though the oversight was because you forgot to write the band name in the post.

Well it's finally over you guys. This thing almost took a month when it shouldn't of had taken this long but we did it. Now it's time to put the results for the final round and see who comes out being victorious. Also I took longer posting these results because when I was about to post them, I realized that dethklok didn't send me a song so I had to wait for him and give his song a chance. But here we are now.

5
Gorille85 - Thanks For Your Time by Gotye
Now this was definitely an interesting song to listen to. The beat that it has is very ctachy and would get stuck in my head after listening to it. I also really liked the chorus that this song had. That pause I guess you can say that happpens in the song with the phone conversation was very unexpected and if it would've benn longer might've ruined the song a bit but it didn't. I was danicing aorund with my phone while watching the video.

dethklok09 - Simple Math by Manchester Orchestra
Man was it worth waiting for your song? Yes it was. That song had it all. Great lyrics, great chorus, and great everything else. Even the music video that went with the song was amazing. I just kept on replaying that video each time. Half to hear the song again and half to watch the video again. But all in all the song was just amazing. I really enjoyed it.

4
PuffyPat - Out and In and In and Out
I can't really pin-point what is it about this song that i really enjoy while listening to it. If I were to give at least one reason is that I really enjoy the singer's voice. This song also seems like I could listen for quite sometime now and I won't get tired of it. Yeah.....

The King in Crimson - Vodka Inferno by Diablo Swing Orchestra
Who knew opera and metal would mix this good together. Although I didn't understand shit they were saying, their voices sounded awesome with the music that was playing. Sometimes out of nowhere the song would get heavy as fuck and would sound awesome.

zxlkho - Heaven's On Fire by The Radio Dept.
I have never really listened to shoegaze music before and as you know I didn't really enjoy the one you sent me in the previous round. This song was much more better than the before in my opinion. This song is much more happier sounding and really seems like a song that could make just about everybody happy. Another song that would get stuck in my head as well.

jingle.boy - Out In The Real World by Stream of Passion
Now I don't usually listen to alot of female fronted metal for some unknown reason. Not that I hate or anything but never really attracted my attnetion much. This song was great though. The singers were great in the song not to mention the nice guitars that it had. The part I enjoyed the most just like I have been with most songs you guys have sent me was the chorus. I think that's the real highlight of the song.

3
DTVT - Certifiable #1 Smash by Kevin Gilbert
Another interesting song that was sent to me in this round. I enjoyed the guitar riffs the song had and everything but the only thing that brought it down a bit was the part he was basically telling a story. It was somewhat funny but it was too long for this song in my opinion. After a while, I just wanted him to finish telling the story so we could back to the song. If it was shorter I would've ranked this song higher.

2
YtseBitsySpider - Stronger Than Death by Redemption
Ummm well this song was an okay song for me. It didn't make we go like wow or anything like that. The only thing that was pretty cool in it was the guitar riff. I don't know, maybe I should listen to it a couple more times to like it more or something.

Now the results!!! :hat

Standings
22 - Gorille85, dethklok09
20 - The King in Crimson
18 - zxlkho, PuffyPat
17 - YtseBitsySpider
16 - DTVT
15 -  jingle.boy

There you have it folks. Thank you for being patient with me and sticking to the end of this. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did but I doubt it lol. You guys should definitely check out each other's songs that were sent in this roulette, especially from this round. So I guess that's it. dethklok enjoy your win.  ;D

Ooooooooo now this is really getting interesting. Hmmmm let's see. The thing with the album though is that I would probably have to listen to them a couple of times and I tend to really listen to a album a lot before I give it a review or score or whatever you want to call it. For every bodies sake so they won't be dead by the time I would post my results let's just go with one song and it can be any song.

So bottom line since this is a sudden death round. I will just post which song I liked better and who won. So the song I liked better was.....Vinushka by Dir en Grey. So that means Gorille85 wins.

I had heard of this band before from my friends but never listened to them except maybe 2 or 3 songs they showed me that I didn't like but I did like this one so kudos to you my friend. :metal
