1. Beneath the Surface
2. Bridges in the Sky
3. Breaking All Illusions
4. On the Backs of Angels
5. This is the Life

7. Far From Heaven
8. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
9. Lost Not Forgotten

For sure BTS, BITS, and BAI make up my top three, although I'm not sure of the order. Nothing else is set in stone yet.

Spots 4-7 I'm undecided on just now and they'll probably move about a bit for a while until I can settle on a definitive ranking :D

Apart from the top three and bottom one, the rest is subject to a lot of change. I've had This Is The Life as high as 4 a couple of days ago, although I think OTBOA belongs there for now, but I have heard it many more times compared to the others. This Is The Life has some great moments but overall I don't think it stands out as much as the others. Build Me Up, Break Me Down is awesome in a lot of ways but I could see it and This Is The Life getting boring. Lost Not Forgotten is also great but it has some parts I don't think are that great compared to the other songs around it.

Also, Outcry is pretty close to Breaking All Illusions.

Wow, Bridges in the sky at 9th place is quite interesting.

Epic BAI and BITS are epic. OTBOA is still a really good song. Lost Not Forgotten is pretty weaksauce. Outcry is actually quite good, but a little incoherent.

All three ballads, however, are beautiful, and in different ways. I believe this is the first album I've been able to say that about since Six Degrees.

That's only an approximate order, as I rate them fairly closely. First three are definitely my first 3, although the order could change from day to day.

It's a very tight race though, and honestly all the songs are amazing. I'm very pleased with this album.

Surprised by how well I liked it because bunch early reviews said it was the one of the weaker tracks. Bridges in the Sky is by far my favorite track its almost on its on tier for me.

Keep in mind that the first cluster of 6 is very close as far as quality goes, and the rankings there are subject to change very much, but BAI and BMUBMD are pretty set in their positions. The bottom three should be noted as being considerably less awesome than the top six generally are, but still very good; there are no bad songs here.

Only time will tell whether this album stays as awesome as it is now, but so far I'm stunned by it.

I feel every song on the album is excellent with the exception of (for now) Far From Heaven. That song just isn't giving me the feeling that the others do.

WOW! Writing them out like this for the first time really shows what an incredible set of songs ADTOE is for me...I find LNF totally amazing at times, and I absolutely love TITL, yet I have them ranked 7th and 8th! :metal

After more listens I've changed to this. I still need to listen to BAI more. I'm still iffy if its the #2 song for me. I still can't figure out Outcry. LNF has clicked. BITS is on its own level. I want to see it live so bad, hoping for it next week in SF. As an opener it would be amazing.

Some controversial choices in there, I'm sure. That's not to say that there isn't something to like in all of them. OTBOA probably ranks so low because of the early saturation factor... Outcry because some of the instrumental section is just a little too much for me and LNF because... well... aside from the middle eastern vibe, it's a side of DT that just isn't my cup of tea.

the number one song = Breaking All Illusions,
the number two song = Bridges in The Sky.

I think Dream Theater really had to of done something right if almost all of the fan base agrees that those two are the best tracks on the album.

Normally I like DT ballads, but I found them a little lacking on this album. They're still good, but not in the same league as the non-ballads on this disc (for me).

I know Breaking All Illusions is up there for a lot of people, but I have a hard time getting through it. It's got some great passages, but what doesn't amaze me just bores the heck out of me. I'm sure this list will change with time, but this is it for now.

i can only rank top 3. the rest is pretty close, one day its this one, the other that one but top 3 have been this way since i first heard the record. it also goes for the last ranked- LNF, for some reason i deeply dislike that song

I agree dude, how can you not be digging on the beautiful piano interlude, folllowed by some of the best and most difficult unison runs Jordan and Mike and ever done. Not to mention the drum grove that kicks in, and then a very unique JP solo. I don't get it. This song needs to be played live to be appreciated i guess.

#1 and #2 are swapping regularly, and TITL moves from #5 to #8 depending on my mood, but the rest is pretty consistent for me.

Anyway, all the songs on this album are great, but TiTL and BMUBMD don't move me nearly as much as the others (though the former is a pretty cool ballad and the latter is great for what it is).
