Title: Favorite Lyrics
Post by: Perpetual Change on August 30, 2011, 01:56:13 AM
Post some of your favorite lyrics. Keep it short in simple, like a verse at most so we don't have to wade through entire pages.

One of my favorites is an unused lyrics from Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue" demos:

He was always in a hurry
too busy or too stoned,
and everything that she ever planned
just a'had to be postponed.
She thought they were successful,
He thought that they were blessed,
with objects and material things
But I never was impressed.
And when it all came crashing down,
I became withdrawn.
The only thing I knew how to do
was to keep on keeping on, like a bird that flew
Tangled up in blue

especially these lines:

The military intelligence
Two words combined that can't make sense

To keep it short

Shadow people follow him everywhere he goes
Looking over his shoulder, the paranoia grows

The Trees By Rush

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their please.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

All Guns Blazing by Judas Priest  -...  :P

Forced into overdrive
Drawn out of anger
All talons poison dipped
Impaling spike

Quote
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul

Quote
The preacher loses face with christ
Religion's cruel device is gone
Empty flesh and hallowed bones
Make pacts of love but die alone

Quote
They'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night

These are, in my opinion, the best lyrics ever written. Jesse Lacey is one of the best songwriters of my generation.

Brand New - Seventy Times 7

So, is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with.
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish.
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.
Have another drink and drive yourself home.
I hope there's ice on all the roads.
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt,
and again when your head goes through the windshield.

And is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back.
So let's end this call, and end this conversation.
and is that what you call a getaway?
well tell me what you got away with.
cause you left the frays from the ties you severed
when you say best friends means friends forever

It's okay, because now we can talk about Jesse Lacey twice as much.

Yes, indeed we can.

Quote from: Jesus Christ
Well, Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die,
I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
Do I get the gold chariot?
Do I float through the ceiling?

Do I divide and fall apart?
'cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark
And the ship went down in sight of land
And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands

especially these lines:

Two words combined that can't make sense

I've always loved those lines too.

I might think of lyrics later.

Arcade Fire - Wake up

Something filled up
My heart with nothing
Someone told me not to cry

But now that I'm older
My heart's colder
And I can see that it's a lie

We're just a million little gods causing rain storms
Turning every good thing to rust
I guess we'll just have to adjust
