To be serious though, I love how it says "but be reassured it is in good intention" early in the email before you have any probable cause to be suspicious.

Some fascinating tidbits about the Nigerian Letter scam.

Quote
Followup scamming

Scammers recognise that their victim who has just been scammed is more likely to fall for scamming attempts than a random person. Often after a scam, the victim is contacted again by the scammer, representing himself as a law enforcement officer. The victim is informed that a group of criminals has been arrested and that they have recovered his money. To get the money back, the victim must pay a fee for processing or insurance purposes. Even after the victim has realised that he has been scammed, this follow up scam can be successful as the scammer represents himself as a totally different party yet knows details about the transactions. The realization that he has lost a large sum of money and the chance he might get it back often leads to the victim transferring even more money to the same scammer.
Quote
Invitation to visit the country

Sometimes, victims are invited to a country to meet real or fake government officials. Some victims who do travel are instead held for ransom. Scammers may tell a victim that he or she does not need to get a visa or that the scammers will provide the visa.[31] If the victim does this, the scammers have the power to extort money from the victim.[32] Sometimes victims are ransomed or, as in the case of the 29 year old Greek George Makronalli who was lured to South Africa, killed.
Quote
Bad English

Invariably the emails contain numerous spelling and grammar errors. This is deliberate and not the result of sloppiness or a lack of education on the part of the scammers. The bad English lulls the native English speaker or educated reader into a false sense of security. The victim is encouraged to think that he or she is superior to the scammer and even though the victim "knows" the email is a scam will still think he or she can outwit the "stupid" scammer if there is any danger at a later stage.

Nutty. I thought that was done to try to make legal loopholes more plentiful in the event of prosecution. Like the spelling "New York" as "NEWYORK" part could maybe help them weasel out of being held liable for attempting to impersonate officials acting on behalf of New York City.

I stumbled across one which was almost slightly convincing - short, to the point, not ridiculously badly spelt, fooling nobody but an A+ for effort - which was only let down by the name of the sender. It matched the email address (which they rarely do - again, A+ for effort!), but his name was listed as "Sergeant Gregory Joe."

I absolutely adored that a. he made himself a Sergeant, and b. he decided that "Joe" sounded like a nice, common, English-language surname. He is my favourite scammer ever.

Incidentally, have you considered tricking Mr. Adamu into copying out Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in its entirity by hand (https://www.419eater.com/img/joyce/potter001.jpg)?

It is a lot of fun. (https://www.419eater.com/html/joyce_ozioma.htm) There are loads of these: they even get one guy to do a carving!

Definitely try and do this.

I reply to these all the time. The last one didn't get back to me for months. Then, OUT OF NO WHERE, I got a reply this month:

"Dear Beneficiary ,

I am very sorry to pass this bad news to you regarding Mrs.Mellisa Lewis dead in India on Monday this week. I have still not heard from you since I sent you this mail regarding Mrs.Mellisa Lewis Dead, why the silences please tell me what is going on. No matter what it is I believe I can cope with it. Or have you complete the transaction and run away with the funds.

I don’t even know where I stand between you and the bank, I call the bank and they won't tell me anything because the account is not mine, I send you email and you won't even respond back to me. Why all this? You are advice to get me as soon as possible regarding this matter.

I am waiting for your response please.

Your brother,
Barr Vincent Johnson"

Edit: A bit of back story...Mrs. Mellisa Lewis was the person who E-mailed me initially and then Barr Vincent Johnson took over as Mrs. Mellisa Lewis went into a coma and he is her lawyer.

Response should be something like:

Thank you for your assurances.  They have certainly helped me to make my decsion.  I have prayed and thought long and hard about your proposal and I believe helping you is the right thing to do.  I also did some research on my own to try to confirm some of the details of what you are telling me, but was unable to find much that was helpful, other than learning that your country is apparently famous for its delicious sandwiches if I am not mistaken.  But that is beside the point.  I stand ready to assist you as your faithful servant and can come up with at least 419 reasons why I should help you.  Please provide me with further instructions.

Mr. Adamu,

I do appreciate your assurance that you're not giving me the runaround. I was very excited about this business venture, and I told my pastor about it. He warned me that God's plan is sometimes tricky, but I have faith that my lord would not steer me down the wrong path. The news that a relative of mine has passed so tragically has hit my entire family very hard. Though, the fact that there are more good men out there willing to split up his fortune is a very beautiful thing. I raise my glass to you, sir. I am also very thankful that you have taken care of the paperwork to make this transaction as smooth as possible. I am glad that I have been chosen to receive this money, however my thriving plastic surgery practice is more than enough. I will likely donate the money to a charity. As to your numbered concerns:

1. I will most certainly split the funds with you. They will be kept in a very advanced safe that I change the combination of daily.

2. I would never cheat or betray such a kind-hearted gentleman such as yourself. Our lord Jesus Christ forbids it.

3. The only third party involved will be my lord, Jesus. I tell him everything. I will be sure to let my pastor know that I haven't gone through with the deal, to put him at ease. Deception is a sin, but in cases such as this, I can let it slide.

4. Indeed. Unfortunately, I do not own a telephone. I feel like they disconnect people from the reality of God. We will have to communicate strictly through e-mail, I'm afraid.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
Gallagher

Mr. Adamu,

I appreciate the need for seriousness. I am a bit of a silly person from time to time, but I will most certainly try to tame my natural personality for you. I respect you greatly as a fellow man of Chris. I understand that it doesn't matter if I'm related to our dear friend Jose or not, but I like to think that I am. I can feel God telling me that he was a distant relative of mine. Praise be to the lord!

This offer was not a surprise to me. My horoscope said that good economic times are in my future. I also told my pastor about this horoscope and he told me not to believe everything I hear. What does he know, anyway? I understand this transaction completely, and am ready to proceed. Our financial lives will most certainly improve greatly in this venture. However, my financial life is fairly stable as it is. Why, just this morning, I made a couple thousand dollars off a lad named Hayden who wanted to be turned into a girl. The operation was a complete success.

Your wife is beautiful. If I wasn't a man of Christ, I'd certainly give her some red hot lovin. Same goes for your children.

I will gladly sign all forms. However, I must ask that you sign the enclosed form for my bank. I am part of a very progressive Christian bank, and they require the form to be filled out for transactions greater than $2,000 US DOLLARS. I warn that the form will seem slightly weird. This is the bank's way of making sure you are a trustworthy human being with a sense of humor. I don't like the form either, but we won't be able to proceed unless you fill it out.

Again, I must remind you that telephones are a vehicle of Satan, and I do not own one. We will have to communicate through e-mail only.

Love,
Gallagher

Mr. Adamu,

I am appalled that you do not trust me. Like I stated, the document is a necessary evil. My bank is a very new one, and it has some strange quirks, I know. That said, it's not like I need the money at all, but I was really hoping to help you out, since you would have been making a sizable amount of money off of the deal.

If you are still interested in this transaction, I will see my bank about waiving the form that offended you so much. I also apologize if I offended you with any of my comments.

If you are not interested anymore, I wish you a long, fruitful life in Christ. God bless you.

Love,

I asked a friend of mine from Nigeria about these one day. It's pretty interesting. He said that most of these scammers are little kids, between like 11-15, trying to rip people off. After being dumb kids, people either start to try and do something with their lives or just move on to scamming people in much more immediate, dangerous ways. But he said if you go into any internet cafeteria in Nigeria, 90 percent of the activity going on is kids doing this stuff  :sadpanda:

Hello Miss Yak,

Your e-mail has come at a most fortuitous time. I do believe I can help you in this venture. First of all, a little about myself. My name is William Stroker, and I own a very profitable farming business in the southern United States. While I am already rather rich, some extra cash flow would be very much appreciated, being that the farming business is wilting quite a bit in recent years. I can guarantee that your money will be put to good use here.

I understand that your life is in danger due to your uncle. I pray that Jesus Chris, our lord and savior, guides you safely to my farm. He is the shepard of all. I have had very disappointing relationships with uncles in the past. Let's just say there's a reason that most child molesters are also uncles. Damn them. I feel that this common experience brings us closer, brothers and sisters in Chris.

I'm afraid I do not know of many universities around here, as I never went to college. But, if you need somewhere to live and work, my farm has just lost one of our dear employees. He is with our lord now because some cow deceived him very badly. He thought the cow was entirely docile, but it ended up goring him with its giant horns. Apparently what he thought was an udder turned out to be a male cow's ram-rod. May Chris be with him.

Rest assured, my dear Yak, I will shepard you and protect you much like my God would do for me. Your wicked uncle will not harm you, my dear soul. Please respond urgently so that I may know that you are safe and sound.

Your brother in Chris,
William Stroker

Hello Miss Yak,

I am glad the e-mail reached you safely. I was worried that it may have gotten swallowed up in the evil bowels of the internet. I have enclosed a picture of myself judging a rather high-profile sporting event nearby. I do apologize for misleading you into thinking this message was to a Mr. Drew Boyd. Drew was a good friend of mine who had offered me the use of his e-mail account (because I was dreadfully scared of opening one myself). You may address any future e-mails to William Stroker.

I understand that life must be very difficult in a refugee camp, but it must surely be better than living in your own home in fear that your wicked Uncle Ernie will come crashing through your window to mercilessly rape and kill you. I pray that your life will hold out long enough to make the trip over to my farm. Again, I will offer you a full-time job and living arrangements while you seek out an adequate university to continue your noble accounting work.

I understand that life must be very difficult in a refugee camp, but it must surely be better than living in your own home in fear that your wicked Uncle Ernie will come crashing through your window to mercilessly rape and kill you.

It's showing up for me, weird. It's just a little black girl sitting down in the grass, by the looks of it, she's about 13 or 14.

By the way, I assume you just made that bank account number up...I hope that isn't someone's real bank account info. I think Cole or someone else expressed concern about that before.

I'm about to work on 2 e-mails: One to send to the "bank" (for those of you who know anything about this sort of thing, it's just another e-mail address of Miss Yak so she can send me a phony document to make me feel secure), and one to send to our new friend. I'm thinking of getting increasingly creepy with her, but at the same time restraining myself because my lord Chris would never allow it.

Hello Bank,

I am e-mailing on behalf of a Miss Yak Yak. She instructed me to call you, but I am deaf due to a very bizzarre gardening accident which took my life as a strapping young lad. Please know that in order to speak with you, I will require you to use a TextPhone. I am the trustee of Miss Yak, and I am to ask the possibility of transferring these funds to my account in the States. Here is the account information:

The account Number: 00331016648
Swift Code Number: AFT877
Deposit Code Number AT78
Amount: 5.6 million USD
Depositor: Dr.Justin Yak
Next of kin: Miss Joycy Justin Yak

(BUMPER)

Hello Miss Yak,

I have e-mailed the bank with happenis in my heart knowing that someday we shall be together on my farm. By the grace of Jesus Chris above, I feel everyone will survive this troublesome time. I thank you for asking about my family, but I had to murder my wife fairly recently because she stole the last piece of my chocolate cake. I have to deal with the guilt every day.  I wish I would have just hired a hitman. My 3 children are also well, and they are very much aware that eating my chocolate cake is a bad idea, so I predict that the 5 of us will live in great harmony together.

I must say though your offer to make me my own e-mail account was kind and mildly insulting to my intelligence, I am perfectly happy with the e-mail I have. I can assure you that this e-mail is safe and secure, and nobody else has access to it. I keep very private, personal files on that e-mail account, and if someone had seen what was there, well, let's just say the FBI would be on their way.

I read that you have been in the hospital for some weeks now. It is comforting to me that they offer you the use of computers in hospitals now. I remember when I went there for my gardening accident that caused my deafness, all they did was yell at me. I guarantee if you can complete your studies over here you will be most definitely happy soul. I will fill you in hardcore when you get here. However, before we penetrate that level of our relationship, I would like to inspect the caves. I assume that they may be a little rough, given what you have gone through. I must also ask that we get married very soon, as my lord Jesus frowns upon such sordid acts of sexual congress before we swap saliva in front of the church.

My dear sweet Yak, I pray to Chris that you are still well at this time. Everything will be so much better when you get here. You will fit right in here on this beautiful farm.

Love,
William Stroker

I'm so glad someone is putting these low life scumbags through some torture. One of them ruined my aunt's family.
My aunt's husband was a dumb Egyptian farmer but he had struggled his way through life and formed a small machinery maintenance business then studied mechanical engineering and that business grew into a somewhat of a respectable size import/export factory spare parts business. His family of my aunt, 2 beautiful daughters and a son enjoyed a nice life for a couple of years.
He got internet around 2002 and was more proud of making an e-mail address than buying his fancy car cause he thinks everything computer related is a stunning miracle and the internet is the newest gift God gave man after water and oxygen.
Farmer wit did not catch on one of these scams. He kept sending the motherfuckers money. Sold his business and borrowed money from his neighbors and friends, who are obviously dumber than him since he always told them the truth of why he's borrowing the money and they were convinced it's legit as well.
He started borrowing money from my father and that's when the whole problem got uncovered for the family. Everyone tried to convince him it's a scam but his replies were always stuff like "You don't have faith in me, you think I'm a naive farmer" or "Just wait, you'll see you're all wrong". When I went to talk to him it was clear that he has lost it and his mind was long gone, he sold his car wanted to sell the house they lived in but thankfully my aunt owns it.
The e-mail frauds probably never had such an amazing win and it was party time in Nigeria.
He kept finding more people to borrow money from and his former repute as an honest businessman helped. Finally people started chasing him for their money and he had to go back to his home town to hide there and find more people to borrow money and send it to the internet frauds. The police stormed my aunt's house a few times to look for him and the family were psychologically collapsing.
It got out that he owes people a bit over a million dollars and he had sent the internet frauds a total of at least double that amount including his own money.
My aunt had to get a divorce to stop the police from legally storming her house to look for her husband, my dad started supporting the family and putting the kids through college as my aunt never worked in her life and was always a house wife. His eldest daughter -now 21 years old- just got a job last year and started helping a bit. I've seen them last time I visited Egypt -last year- and they looked so pale and sad.
In Egypt people rarely wanna be associated with a family that has problems with the police. So his daughters can not get married unless they lie to the fiance's family about their father which they would never do. Break-ups because of that were plenty the last couple of years.
So yeah. I like what you guys are doing in this thread :)

Stories like that are the reason I do this. Those people are the worst kind of criminals, and someone needs to slow them down. That should be a good example of people falling for it. It's more common than you can imagine.

I actually received an email scam today and have been running with it. I love this stuff. From them.
Hello dear Sir. I am Ms. Akindo in province of South Africa. Help me with a bank transaction that will benefit both our parties.  We humble request that you help me due to my fathers recent passing. The state asks that a trustee sign to obtain $3.2 million dollars. All we ask is that you help me with transaction as trustee as you are a good friend of my father.  and one half of thedollars will be transferred to you. Please advise if this will be working for you. Please send bank account #, name of bank and routing number to complete.

My reply: My bank requires that I have a 3 legged goat to complete the transaction. I will be more than happy to help you in this desperate time of need.

Them: We do not have access to a 3 legged goat but want to hopefully complete the transaction for the benefit of both parties.

Me: I told them that in order to complete the transaction, my religion (Dudesim ) from the movie the Big Lebowski, requires that I have an oriental rug, preferably red sent to me. I also told them I am blind from an accident I had many years ago when a bull charged at me and his horns took out my eyeballs.

Their reply," we are so understanding of your sitauation and your unfortunate condition. But we want the transaction to do in a timely manner. Please advise bank account number and monies will be sent promptly.

Me: Bank account Number: 8675309. Trustee on my behalf- Stevie Wonder. and I must request since you cannot supply the goat that my bank requires a naked picture of Pee Wee Herman to complete the transaction.

Them: we no not what a pee wee herman is. we wish not that hold up transaction. thank you for the bank number but also need name of bank.

My reply: The name of my bank is Van Halen Trust. Reference number is Ou812. If sending, prior to transfer, please call and ask for a Mr. David Lee Roth. He will be able to help in completing the transaction. the phone number is 800 328-6333 (1 800 eat meee)

Them: Mr L., we are pleased and so happy that you want to do transaction. It is unfortunate that our father passed and that a close frend and trustee as you is want to help in transaction. I will contact Mr. Roth in the next 24 hours.

My reply: If Mr. Roth is not available or on an extended vaction in the Andes mountains. Ask for a Mr. Hagar. he is a replacement for Mr. Roth and, although he cant drive 55, he will be more than happy to expedite this transaction. Although I am blind due to the bull accident, I have to trust Mr. Roth and Hagar that the monies you are sending will be the proper amount as I cannot see the actual figures. May I also say that I wish you the kindest of thank you's for me being priveledged to do this transaction.
Them; We thank you for your interest in our help.

Me: If one day we are lucky to meet, I would kindly take your youngest daughter on a picnic in a deeply wooded forest for some frolicking. She may have to use wagon to bring me up the hill to the forest since I also have no legs as the were eaten by a badger while I was hunting liverwusrt in the hills of Wisconsin.

Dear Associate,

How are you doing my friend, great I guess…? Now I know this mail will definitely come to you as a huge surprise, but please kindly take your time to go through it carefully as the decision you make will probably go a long way to determine my future and continued existence. First, let me introduce myself. I am Capt. Michael Scholl, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, western Anbar Province in Iraq. I am desperately in need of assistance and I have summoned up courage to contact you. I am presently in Iraq and I found your contact particulars in an address journal. I am seeking your assistance to evacuate the sum of $10,570,000 (Ten million Five Hundred and Seventy Thousand USD) to the States or any safe country; as far as I can be assured that it will be safe in your care until I complete my service here. This is no stolen money and there are no dangers involved.

SOURCE OF MONEY: Some money in various currencies was discovered and concealed in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunition at a location near one of Saddam Hussein's old Presidential Palaces during a rescue operation and it was agreed by all party present that the money be shared amongst us. This might appear as an illegal thing to do but I tell you what? No compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our lives in this hellhole. The above figure was given to me as my share and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a German contact working with the UN here (his office enjoys some immunity) I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot. He does not know the real contents of the package as he believes that it belongs to an American who died in an air raid, before giving up trusted me to hand over the package to his close relative. I have now found a secured way of getting the package out!
Of Iraq for you to pick up.

I do not know for how long I will remain here, as I have been lucky to survive two suicide bomb attacks by Pure Divine intervention. This and other reasons put into consideration have prompted me to reach out for help. If it might be of interest to you then Endeavor to contact me and we would work out the necessary formalities but I pray that you are discreet about this mutually benefiting relationship.

For more details please contact me via my private box: capt.michaelscholl@ibibo.com

Respectfully,
Capt. Michael Scholl.

Them: me are so sorry for your legs and hope best for you. We dont understand daughter as I not have one. I hope you the best to further this transaction.

Me: I thank you for the kind wishes regarding me having no legs and eyes. Despite those small inconviences, I am lucky and priveldged to help you with this transaction. But I digress and must ask. Since you do not have a daughter. I would be more than willing to take any farm animal you have to the forest, as long as they can wheel me up the hill. Maybe a donkey could pull me up to the forest. Please advise after talking with Mr. Roth or Hagar so we can complete this transaction in a timely manner as I wish to help you as much as I can.

May I also ask one thing as well if I can, I dont want to Break All Illusions regarding our transaction, and dont want to Outcry about me having Lost but Not Forgotten my eyes and legs, it only hurts Beneath the Surface and even with the loss of both they are just Bridges in the Sky anyway. Even with those 2 losses I am Far From Heaven and Beneath the Surface I am doing well. This Is The Life my dear friend. So Build It Up and Break it Down anyway you like. I am here to help you in any way possible.

As much fun as it is to make in-jokes and stuff, the surefire way to really get them is make them send you stuff.  It costs them money to ship things.  It also helps to have a work address you can receive things at so you don't have to give out your actual home information.  When someone tried to scam me when I was taking boarders, I actually got them to FedEx me the fake money orders a second time.  Overnighting stuff isn't cheap.  Also, get them to insure it as well.

My dear,

I am Mrs. Deborah Gomez, from republic of Ireland, born in the state of Ohio USA. I am legally married to Mr. Goodman Khanyile a South Africa citizen born brought up in Switzerland, I live in Switzerland with my husband for 32 years before we move down to South Africa in 1985 after my husband retirement in 1974, I am 76 years old by the grace of God, I am a new Christian convert, suffering from long time cancer of the breast.

All indication from my doctor that my conditions is really deteriorating and it is quite obvious that I wouldn’t live more than two months, according to my doctors and in all indication regards to medical analysis.

This is because the cancer disease has gotten to a very bad stage that no hope for me to be a living person again. My dear husband was involved with the January 2000 Kenya airways plane crashed as you can see on the news line web site.https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6627485.stm ) 40 years period of marriage life, still we could not produce any child, my late husband was very wealthy and after his death, I inherited some part of his business and money in the bank.

The doctors has advised me that I may not live for more than one months and 2 weeks and warn me to decease from thinking over who is going to inherit me, today I have decided to donate contribute to the less privileges, charity and orphanage homes.

I made this decision after listing to the news line about 100 years old woman who secretly donate her fortune upon her.
Death,https://www.myfoxspokane.com/dpps/news/dpgoh-woman-donates-secret-millions-upon-her-death-fc-20100305_6410207\https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8o-e-ilsum. I choose you after viewing your profile and I have confident in you because I have prayed. I am willing to donate the sum of $10.5million U.S Dollars, to the less privileged.

Please I want you to note that this fund is still in the bank where my husband deposited it. I am going to advice my lawyer to change my last will to your name and file in an application for the transfer of the money in your name.

lastly, I honestly pray that this money when transferred will be used for the said purpose even though I am late then or alive, because I have come to find out that wealth acquisition without God is vanity according to the wisest king in Israeli Solomon, and I made the promise to God that the fund will be use to help the needy and the less privilege.

May the grace of our lord the love of God and the fellowship of God be with you and your family, please further discussion contact me with my email address: mrs.gomezdeborah1935@gmail.com

I await urgent reply.

Hello my dear

I humbly write to solicit for your partnership and assistance in the transfer and investment of my inheritance fund (USD 10.5M) Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand U.S Dollars from my late father who died mysteriously last year.

I will like to further introduce myself to you. My name is Miss.Rachael Koffi, I am age of 19 years girl, am only child  of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Alhaji Amadu Koffi

It was very evident that he was poisoned to death. In my culture, when a man dies, if he does not have a male child, the brothers shares his property leaving both the wife and the daughters empty handed including  the house they live in. This is the exact case with me as I am the only daughter of my father. I lost my mother when I was barely a year old and my father refused to re-marry another wife because he felt solely responsible for my mothers death.

This is so because he concentrated much on his businesses that he rarely pays attention to domestic affairs. He was always travelling taking care of his businesses that he did not notice when my mother took ill. He thought it was a minor illness and was ignorant of this. My mother on her own resorted to self-medication. It was not until the illness degenerated that my father took my mother to  hospital where she was diagnosed to find out that hypatitis had eaten deep into her blood stream. She didn't last long before she died.

This  happened when I was barely a year old. Based on this, my father could not forgive himself easily because of it and said he was responsible for her death as he could have saved her if only he had paid attention to the things at home rather than concentrating much on his businesses.

Despite all entreaties by friends and relatives, he refused to remarry but ensured that I had everything that I wanted. It was as a result of this that he made me the next of kin to his fund deposit with the bank and stated that in the event of any eventuality, I should have a direct access to the fund only when I am 25 years of age otherwise I should have a guardian/partner intercede on my behalf for the release of the funds to me. Unfortunately, he died late last year and I am 19 years of age currently.
This is why I have contacted you to serve as a guardian to me and as my foreign partner for the transfer and investment of the fund overseas, My uncles does not know about the fund because he had already taken my father's houses and other properties because I am a girl and he said I do not have rights for any property.

He have requested to have  my father's bank papers but I simply told him that I do not know where he kept them.he  took the house in the village while the houses in the town were sold out.
Right now i am in the hotel and do sincerely want to travel out of the country. This can only happen when I have secured  the release and transfer of the funds into your bank account. This why it is  important that we have a plan on the type of lucrative business that we can invest the funds on.

I had at various times had discussions with the director of international remittance unit of the bank where my father deposited the funds and I was assured that once, I have someone who would be willing to receive the funds on my behalf, they shall commence all proceedings to effect  the release and transfer of the funds into the person's designated account.

Now, that you have signified your interest to partner with me, it would only be very necessary if you contact the bank and request for  the release and transfer of my inheritance fund into your nominated account for the purpose of investment and to further have me come over to your country to continue with my studies.

I shall be giving you the banks contact details as soon as I hear back from you so that you will go ahead and contact the bank.
Your urgent response will be appreciated.
Talk to you the more.
May God bless you for helping me

Regard
Sincerely
Miss.Rachael Koffi

The Courier-Mail reports that Sarah Jane Cochrane-Ramsey, 23, was employed as an "agent" in March 2010 by the Nigerians, but didn't know they were scam artists. Her "job" was to provide access to an Australian bank account opened in her name where the Nigerians could then transfer money they had received from a phony car sales website. Cochrane-Ramsey was told she could keep eight percent of the transfers.

But, then she decided to steal from the thieves themselves. According to the Courier-Mail, she received two payments, totaling $33,350, but spent most of it on herself.

The unfortunate thing there was that she didn't actually steal from the scammers.  She provided an account for the victims to put money into, which would then be given to the Nigerians.  She simply took the money herself.  The victims still lost the money, the scammers just never got any of it.

Suffice it to say that we consigned his offer to the bin.  But this next guy who tried it on, well I think he takes the cake.  Even his attempt at a scam is completely laughable.  Here it is.

Hello,

Thanks for the response to my demand I just finished discussing with my wife .We will appreciate if you will keep this vehicle for us because we have been looking for this type of your particular model for a long time now and i have concluded your vehicle to be our best choice and ordered that payment should be
made out in your name immediately, meaning that payment will get to you in a cashier cheque of USD10000.

So you are required to deduct the cost of your vehicle USD1100 when payment gets to you,you will refund the balance of  USD8900 to our shipping agent via western union money transfer for him to be able to offset shipping charges and settle taxes that might occur on the course of shipping the vehicle.

After payment has reached you and balance sent back to our shipping agent, the shipping agent will come for the pick up and take to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to us,while other necessary documents will be sent by you via courier service to us.

Please Confirm this and provide the following information.
1,Your real name that the cheque will bear.
2,Address where you will receive the payment.
3,Your phone number for easy communication

For cheque payment to be delivered to you via courier service immediately. I will be waiting to get the information's as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Stephen.

Well, this one was worthy of my dad replying to him.  And here is my dad's answer.

Hi Stephen

I have just finished discussing this with MY wife and we have decided not to accept your demand.   We both think that you need to go and get a REAL job because you are not very good at this one.

My son even thinks that you need to see a doctor very soon because your parents must have dropped you on your head when you were a baby and your have very severe brain damage.

Your pathetic attempt at extortion has been reported to the police so you should pack a bag and be waiting for them to come and get you very soon.

Have a good day.

Bye

My dad has heard nothing further from him.  :rollin

Bump.

My mother just burst into my room. Wild-eyed and breathless, she says "Drew, I think...I think I just won a million dollars."

My bullshit detector immediately switches on.

"Uh-huh. Let me see the email."

She hands me her phone, and within seconds, I'm laughing my ass off.

Enjoy.

I got a call in the last week from a financial institution (I'll leave unnamed) claiming that my debit card had been disabled.  (I didn't answer it, but it left an automated voicemail.)  The funny thing is I have no accounts with said financial institution and had heard about this scam earlier in the day from a coworker.
