I was thinking of making an X-Files Appreciation Thread since it's my all time favorite show. Love the theme song.

I'm pretty partial to the Battlestar Galactica one (post 1st season), the Deadwood one and the Farscape one. Probably more I'll think of later.

Thread asks for best opening theme music, not best musical interpretation of said music by random fan. The theme music seems boring to me, despite how cool the visuals are or how good the show might be (need to see it still).

That haunting piece, in its various forms, has sent children scuttling behind the sofa for a good fifty years now, and it's still one of the best on TV, and certainly the most recognisable tune on British screens. That's a roaring success through and through.

I've got a really odd favourite theme song, though. It's only ever used in the first episode of each series of its programme, and it's way less iconic than the show's regular theme (which is incredibly well known), but to me, it's one of the most exciting tracks in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7BBV2y0ipQ

Wasn't even composed for the show. It's a piece called "The Fury of Schmidt," by Rolfe Kent - no, me neither. Originally from a film called About Schmidt, but it's an absolute masterstroke in song selection. Sets the tone perfectly - classy enough (and much classier than its US counterpart), but there's a little bit of pomp, and just as much mischief. Definite favourite.

My first thought was The A-Team, made all the more awesome by the 'In 1972 a crack commando unit..." intro. And yes, shows from the 80s had some great theme songs. But I gotta say, I find them annoying now. Especially when a show starts, you get a minute's worth of action and/or humor, then the theme song you've heard a thousand times, then commercials. Very annoying.
