Confirmed in this morning's Dream Theater newsletter. Looks like those of you waiting on a NY date should be happy with the choice of venue. Should be a good show. If I weren't already planning on seeing them the night before in NJ, I'd be so there.
-
Awesome, I will definitely be there.
-
God dammit. I'm supposed to see Firewind that night in NYC. I will likely switch over to DT though.
-
I haven't been to Beacon in a while. Is it a seated venue down in front of the stage? I prefer open standing areas in front of the stage. Just wondering. Thanks!

-
No word yet on when these tickets go on sale and no mention of DT on the Beacon site yet :/

It is 100% seated.

Will be there. :tup
-
I might go, it's the day after my 21st birthday so if I am there I will be very drunk.

Tickets on sale to general public on Friday Aug 5th with internet presale starting Wednesday Aug. 3rd. Prices range from $53 to $111 :omg: :censored (including charges).
-
Dumb question, but what's the difference between on sale to the general public on Friday and internet presale tomorrow? Hmm. Sounds to me like they go on sale tomorrow. no?
-
^yes
-
Anyone else having trouble ordering online?
-
Ugh, stupid internet presale is for american express card members only(on ticketmaster).
I get an email from ticketmaster for the presale, but its only for AMEX. LAME
-
Mega lame. I hate ticketmaster
-
Lower Balcony row B seats 101-102 :tup
-
wow, aren't there any floor seats left? they just went on sale! lol.
-
Lower Balcony row B seats 101-102 :tup
i was around there for the last beacon theatre show. nice view!
-
Tickets just went on sale, and not even to the general public. How the hell I'm only seeing seats for the upper balcony?
-
Got tickets for Loge2 Row E.

I am thinking the Amex presale is limiting what tickets you can get.

Yeah, I gave up. I'm gonna try on Friday again when they go on sale to the public.

By the way, the prices for this show on Stubhub are ridiculous. I logged onto stubhub a few mins before the pre-slae started this morning and there were tons of tickets posted already. How is that possible? Seems fishy.

Saw them at the Beacon for prog 09. It was a dead show. Felt like a ghost town in there that night. I think its cause no one cared about the other bands much and DT had already exhausted the area from previous shows.
I'm holding out for a CT date at the Oakdale but if it doesn't happen I'm sure I'll go to the Beacon last minute like I did last time when I got 7th row center the night of the show.

?? I was there and it was a great show... Much better than two nights before in Asbury Park.

Let me be clear, the band was great, the audience was non existent. It was a ghost town in that venue that night. I have never been to a show where the lobby was empty all night. No one buying shirts, beer, etc. No one in the bathrooms. The attendance was poor. That's just a fact. At one point I went out to the lobby for a beer and myself and Eddie Truck were the only souls out there at all. That was strange.
Oh, and my buddy was at Asbury Park and he said the crowd there was quite sad. Nobody showed up to that shit hole.
-
Anyone spring for any of these crazy packages?

Yeah, Asbury Park was a pretty weak crowd. Probably not the best move having a NJ show and NY on back-to-back nights for a prog package tour. Plus, as mentioned, it wasn't the greatest venue. Kinda like an over-sized high school gymnasium.
I'm sure if they had been "Evening with Dream Theater" shows, the attendance would've been significantly higher. I actually skipped the first Progressive Nation tour a few years earlier. Figured I'd wait for a proper DT tour rather than sit through a bunch of bands I didn't care about.

After viewing the prices, and hearing about the maudlin of the Well show a week earlier (also the fact that Trivium is opening) I have decided to pass this show up.

How much are tickets? They were 100.00 a ticket for prog 09. Ridiculous.
-
Wow! Just for kicks, I tried to see what tix were available. After being onsale for only 3 minutes, the best available for 2 tickets was Upper Balcony, Row 2.
-
I got into the LOGE section in the middle seats.
-
Lower balcony, 5th row center right ish
-
3rd row (CC) seat 15, so I'll be just a bit left of the center. Can't wait :hat
-
Had Row U seats 105-106 of the orchestra but couldn't buy them as I wasn't sure if my friend could come with me :tdwn. I still don't know whether my friend cam come or not...
-
I sprung for the tour pacakge seats for $150. Going with 2 friends and I figured WTF. Should be a great show.

Cheapest available were 50. I know it's not a lot, but as a poor college student I can only afford to do the shows that are the cheapest/the bands that mean the most to me.

Oh, well I got there just in time to watch DT and I was pretty drunk, in the very last row in the top section and was going nuts with my buddies. I guess I didn't realize it was that empty.

it wasn't! The show was at 98% capacity. Don't have a clue what tick was talking about.

Not sure what you were smoking? No way was that place 98% full. Not even close. and I never said it was empty. I said it was a ghost town in the lobby for the entire night. There was little juice in the house that night, imo.
-
^Beacon holds 2,894. My friend who worked in the box office told me that almost 2,700+ tickets were sold for that PN show in '09. Maybe not 98% but that's damn close (def over 90%).
-
A friend of mine just got a pair of 10th row (F) dead center tickets for the Beacon show :omg: Could it be selling that badly???
-
With tickets at almost $100 with service charges I am seriously considering missing this tour or at least this leg of it...I can go to shows at the Starland ballroom for less than $20 bucks
-

It's definitely a bitter pill to swallow. Especially considering I used to see them at the Birch Hill for like $20 and I'd be high-fiving James in the middle of the set. But, considering my concert-going isn't what it used to be in the mid-90's, I suck it up and pay the cash if it's someone I really want to see (which DT definitely is).

My problem is I turned my kids onto alot of the music I grew up with DT included, so shows I used to attend alone aren't an option any longer I'm now buying 3 or 4 tickets per show at the current prices unless its a festival (Mayhem/Uproar type shows, even they are cheaper) i'm looking at dropping $400 before I even get into the venue than theres refreshments and shirts, its just gotten 2 expensive for me

I hear ya, but you don't have to get the 100 dollar tickets, although the "cheap" seats definitely aren't cheap.
-
I was going to go to this show, but then the Albany date opened up which is much, much more convenient for me. PM me if you're interested in my tickets.
-
I haven't seen Dream Theater since August '09, this should be excellent. I wish I knew what row / seat I'll be in - but unfortunately, I didn't purchase the tickets. Should be great though.
-
the acoustics are heavenly @ beacon , I'm sure it'll be AWESOME !!
Now I'm just waiting for reasonably priced tickets to pop back up again...
Gotta watch out for those marked "obstructed view" , Yikes!
I'm so gonna be there this time!!!
-
I'm going.
-
I just tickets in the Orchestra row L. That means i'm going to three shows in one week!
-
I'm glad I decided to get tickets for this show. I can't wait. :metal
Hopefully they will play Connecticut next year.
-
Is anyone planning a DTF pre-show meet and greet? I expect to be in NYC pretty early. I took off from work because I'll also be going to the Morristown show the night before.
-

How in world is that possible? I bought tickets the morning they went on sale and the best I got was Row Y in the orchestra. :-\
-
I'm reading this thread, and I've been wondering, why are the tickets so expensive all of a sudden?

Sadly, most of the time you're better off waiting till the show gets closer if you want good seats. They often screw you on the morning of a sale and give you shitty seats because they can and save better seats to get people on the fence to buy tickets.
I bought 7th row center for the 09 Beacon show two hours before the show.
I got great balcony seats for 40 bucks a week ago for this years show.

Stub hub and the crazy thing is they were 2 dollars over face value.

Anyone who wants a great seat need only show up at the box office the night of the show.
-
Less than a week to go guys :metal I plan on taking the day off so I can spend the afternoon having some food and brews at my favorite bar in NYC
-

Great, cause I still don't have a ticket.
-
I've seen a show there at the orchestra section, and it was great, except when people bitched about me standing up.
-
I can't believe you stood at a concert! The nerve! :lol

Great, cause I still don't have a ticket.
There will be tickets. Good tickets. I got 7th row center in 09. In fact, anytime I buy tickets the night of a show they are usually better than when I buy the morning of a sale.
-
GREAT tickets are available for the Beacon show on Wednesday. I just got a friend of mine 10th row center seats (3) and after checking again (just out of curiosity) there are still seats available in the first ten rows! Go get 'em!
-
Two days till the show. I'm getting pretty damn excited.
-
I cant wait. Is there going to be any sort of meet up? Ive never done a meet up with people here, but if people were in the city late afternoon, early evening, i may meet up.
-
I'll be at some bar by around 5:30. Let me know where you peeps will be at.
-
It pains me to read how people are getting amazing seats days before the show, since I bought the morning of the sale and only got Row Y. I'm happy for you guys. But sad for me. I thought the way to get closest seats was to buy right away. I'll never do that again! lol
I'm gonna be in NYC mad early tomorrow. I'll check this thread to see where you guys are at. Maybe I can get me some tick time.
-
Still great seats left for the NJ show, come on down.
-
So where's the meet-up before concert guys ???
-
At the Jersey show in Morristown. 4th row center is still available. Crazy but true a family member must have bailed.
-

Its sucks that they all too often screw the folks who buy the morning of a sale figuring they know they got ya. Then they persuade people on the fence to go down the line by having good tickets left.
By the way, I don't know the names of any bars so I'll probably just wander in to one close to the venue.
-
I have two tickets in Orchestra2 Row DD for sale....that's fourth row from the stage.... PM me or email me at krd619@gmail.com and we can set something up. I'll be glad to meet you in the city at the beacon...
-
I was going to nominate an Irish bar called St. James Gate that I've heard good things about. It's at 81st and Amsterdam, so just .4 miles from the Beacon. Is this cool with people, or given the possible shitty weather do we want to go somewhere right near the venue?
-
I last minute ordered some tickets today. Wasn't originally planning on going but I'm pretty excited :D
-
Just got email from ticketmaster offering me a ticket to this show, Orchestra Row J seat 109..is that dead center ???? About $111.75 i think...
@axeman,that place is nice too..anybody else wants to go there ?
-
are we talking about hanging before or after the show? after is the shit
-
Alright, so barring any last minute interference, JustJen and I should hopefully be a St. James Gate for 4:30-5 to hang out before the show. Anyone who wants to meet up beforehand can PM me so we can exchange #s
-

I am sure going to try and stop in. :metal
-
Hey, axe. I might head to that bar. Im heading to nyc shortly to meet a friend for lunch then im gonna be killing time until show time.
-
I'm heading into work for a meeting until like 2:30 - 3, after that I have time to kill before meeting my friend at 6. I may meet up if I get into the city quickly.
-
So, given the "A and B" rotating set lists of this tour, tonight's set list should be:
Bridges in the Sky
These Walls
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Endless Sacrifice
Drum Solo
The Ytse Jam
Acoustic
The Silent Man
Beneath the Surface
Outcry
On the Backs of Angels
Forsaken
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Breaking All Illusions
Encore:
Under a Glass Moon
My one complaint is I'd MUCH rather hear Caught in a Web than Forsaken, as Awake was the album that originally got me into DT, and CiaW in particular is very near and dear to my heart. Other than that, pretty happy about UaGM over PmU, simply because I think I've see PmU at every single DT show I've ever been to, and UaGM maybe only once or twice.
Anyone think there's any chance we'll get a "C" set list tonight, or are we pretty confident this will be it? Either way, I'm PSYCHED!
-
Day of the show :metal  :)
Let's hope DT surprises us and does something special for the home crowd.
Should be a good time regardless.
-
OK, slight change of plans since it looks like Jen won't be able to make it. I will be heading in at about 2:30, and hopefully at Port Authority for 3. I'm then proceeding to my usual NYC bar, the Rattle n Hum for a late lunch. It's at 14 East 33rd, right off of 33rd and 5th. Then I'll head up to St. James Gate around 5:30-6. I'm about to PM tick and mebert my cell # and if anyone else wants to contact me I'll be checking DTF on my phone during the trip.
-
I wonder will MP go to one of these NY/PA shows? In his first interview after he left he said "well at least now I'll be able to go to a DT concert". Probably far too soon though
-
On my way into the city, should arrive at penn station around 5
-
Mrjazzguitar is awesome! Got a ticket, I'll be heading in after school at 6!
-
Im at st james gate now. i was the the band entrance before. I meet mying, jordan and mangini! Myung speaks!
-
I'm getting ready to leave work. Is anyone hanging out near the venue? I don't think my friends are getting to the venue till about 7.
-
Put it this way... I'm in the fucking building.
-
Wish I could of went! Unfortunately I have to wake up at 5:30 to head over to the Bronx and leave my house at 6:30 to get there at 7:30 to each Mathematics to adolescents...
But hot damn, I wish I was seeing DT!
Would of wanted the PMU encore since I caught Glass Moon at score. Would be nice if they changed it up a bit for NYC like someone mentioned. Home crowd!
Enjoy DTF!
-
Have a good show to all of You who will be there ! :metal
-
Wow that was a really great concert with a really great set. Great performances all around. MANGINI!!!! Holy shit that guy is a must see live. Holy crap. He was def the perfect fit for the band. Couldn't be happier with him behind the kit.
-
Fucking amazing show. Mike Mangini = jesus christ on drums.
-
Setlist A or C I presume?????
-
Wow, what a whirlwind two days. Morristown and then NY. I saw a bunch of forum members, including gabeh in NJ, and ZepDT, axeman and Ludwig in NY. I got pics with Myung and Mangini outside the band entrance in NY. So beat. But I can't get enough of Mangini. He was the highlight of both shows for me. Love his smiling face as he plays.
-

And ProgMaiden!!
Talk about retro blast from the past! Lol... props to Cecilia for even spotting her. Brought back some memories.
-
Great show. Simply amazing :hefdaddy.
As much as I didn't expect it, Beneath the Surface gave me one of the biggest chills I've ever experienced.
-
Yes Beneath the Surface was amazing!
The solo for Breaking All Illusions! Oh my god it was so good.
PS.
Dear person shouting at me to sit down the entire show,
I'M AT A FUCKING ROCK CONCERT, SO FUCK YOU!
Love me.
-
He was the highlight of both shows for me. Love his smiling face as he plays.
Same here :) Totally amazing how he can drum on such speed and keep on smiling :)
I would love to see your pictures :)
-
Really awesome concert. I was kind of surprised with just UAGM for the encore, comparitively weak to thier other encores ive seen. I still had a great time.
-
Every time I see Dream Theater, it feels like my first show all over again. I always get emotional and tear up. I also sing every song even though I have a terrible singing voice.
Tonight was KILLER! DT was right on spot. JLB was... wow. His performance tonight was up at top with when I saw them at the Radio City show. MM is a wonderful replacement for MP. I'm no drummer, but his solo was mind blowing. The rest of the guys were great too. LOVED JR rocking out on his keytar! The cube screens were okay. I was in the nosebleeds, but had a good view of the stage, so I didn't watch them.
I absolutely LOVED all the older songs they played- Through my words/Fatal Tragedy, Endless Sacrifice, Ytsejam, The Silent Man , These Walls, Under a Glassmoon!
Only pet peeve as usual is the merch. They had one crappy girly shirt. Is it too much to ask for an awesome female DT shirt? Can I send in my suggestions somewhere? They didn't even have mediums in the shirt, so I couldn't pick it up if I wanted to. UGH!
And of course my other problem was that ZepplinDT forgot his Majesty ring at home, so I didn't have the opportunity to try to steal it. Me thinks he's catching on!

The Morristown NJ show was AMAZING.....the NY Beacon show was :omg: :hefdaddy :metal :tup :yarr
Best DT shows since 2004 IMO.
Gotta come back in the summer. What an amzing bunch of musicians! :hefdaddy :hefdaddy
The crowd was AWESOME as well.

What a show last night!
What a hangover today. Time to get ready for work. Yuk!
-
Ytsejam and Breaking all Illusions were epic. Also, Mangini is a beast, look ma no hands!

I was looking forward to experiencing tick in person. Maybe next time!

Hmm I was actually a bit disappointed with the crowd last night actually. Me and my friend were the only people standing throughout the concert in my whole section. C'mon people! I know its the balcony and seats are provided, but shit its Dream Theater headlining, get up and get into it! It felt weird that basically there was no life up in the upper sections.

I learned my lesson last time I was at the beacon. NEVER get a balcony seat. You can't stand up and the crowd is super lame. I was on the floor this time and it was WAY better.
-
I ws in the last row on the floor and everyone was standing.
Mangini is like a human octopus. For real.

He truly is. That drum solo was awe inspiring. I really want to look into pure drum artists, now.
-
Did you guys get a picture of the meet up? it would be cool if we can have a DTF meet ups album at the end of the tour.
-
I was in the 3rd row, all the way on the left side of the stage. It was awesome!!! And Mangini had an absolutely amazing solo!

It's always a tricky issue. My general rule is if everybody around you is sitting, you shouldn't be "that guy" and just stand up. Not EVERYBODY wants to stand up at a concert and it's kind of obnoxious to be standing up when you're blocking the view of everybody behind you. I mean, yeah, ok, it IS a concert. But it's also a concert at a seated venue. The seats are there for a reason...

I don't think there was an official "meet-up". At various points during the night I saw mebert, zgf, axeman, Ray and Steve from the MP forum (forget their usernames), LudwigVan, Cecilia, mrjazzguitar and even ProgMaiden from a distance. But it was all kind of informal and I just really talked to people as I ran into them in the lobby. @tick - I kept an eye out for you, but didn't see you at all :(. I was even hanging out in the lobby after the show as everybody was filing out. Must've somehow still missed you.
-
People who stand in the balcony area's with seats are usually just ignorant and rude youngins! :loser: If you want to stand, don't "cheap out" and buy a ticket in the orchestra! Us older folks  can rock out just as much as the younger guys, we just want to sit while doing it! ;) I've spent the better part of 35 years standing and rocking out on the floor. Now, my back and knees just won't allow it!

Yeah, this pretty much. I like standing up and rocking out and so I buy floor tickets. If you buy a balcony seat the unwritten understanding is you're probably going to be sitting down, and if you're the only guy standing up in your section, you're kinda being a jerk.

That's the biggest buncha bullshit I have ever heard lol. It's a god damn Metal concert. Also, I was in the last row of the lower balcony, so there was literally no one behind me. I'm not spending 100 bucks on a ticket to stand. I will not have my enjoyment lowered because I got a cheaper ticket. That's outrageous. You should stand up for the headlining act.
-
You paid $100 for balcony seats? You poor soul.
-
I was all the way up there and stood, as I have at every concert!

Lol... that's just silly. That exact same logic could be used to justify starting your own mosh pit anywhere in the GA section of a venue, and getting upset if anybody complains that you're the only one moshing.
The unwritten rule is that the pits should be contained to the center front area of the GA floor. Just like the unwritten rule is that floor is for standing and balcony is for sitting (unless EVERYBODY in the balcony is standing). It's just standard concert etiquette.
One time I was at a DT show and there was this one dude standing a few rows in front of us, and he was the ONLY person standing. So one of my friends decided to solve it by just whipping pennies at the back of his head until he got the hint and sat down.
You paid $100 for balcony seats? You poor soul.
This too. My ticket was $80 (all fees included) and I was in the orchestra.

I think it's allowed if you're of a certain height... :)

Bingo. You're allowed to enjoy yourself to the point where you enjoying yourself significantly impacts the enjoyment of the people around you. If you're standing up without getting in anyone's way...more power to you. If you're in a section where everybody is seated and you're the guy standing up blocking somebody's view because you want to stand up and not because you have to stand up to see, you're being the jerk. They paid the exact same money you did and they can't enjoy themselves if they're looking at your butt all night.
But it sounds like you were OK in this instance.
-
No I did not pay 100 dollars for balcony tix. I paid 60. I never said 100. I said I wouldn't pay 100 for orchestra just so I can stand up at a concert. That's ludicrous.
Also, I was the last person in the lower balcony. There was a walkway behind me. No people behind me.
-
Hmm... were there people on the other side of the walkway whose view you would be blocking? Seems weird that people would be upset about it if you weren't actually bothering anybody... :/
-
There shouldn't have been given how freaking steep the Beacon upper balcony is.
-
I paid $65 for Orchestra row J...i didnt see trivium (not my cup o tea anyway) and waited until almost 9 and buy from the guy outside...get inside and DT started right away...everybody around me headbanging-fistpumpin-singing along and it was THE best night of my life !!!... Well maybe second, cause you can't top watching Score in RC.....

There are more advantages to the floor than standing like being closer and getting more subwoofer sound. Standing just makes it way better.

Is what I said not true? You clearly get more subs on the floor, its closer and you can stand. What's the problem?
-
7 strings arguement seems to be that its a metal concert so its mandatory to stand and show support for the headliner. While I would have agreed with that statement 20+ years ago at my age its just not feasible to stand fo ran entire concert, they get my support by getting my hard earned cash
-

lol no you were 100% right, you were just telling me why being in the orchestra is better as if I didn't know those things. I just thought it was funny. It wasn't an offensive facepalm, just a funny one... what's that emote for the facepalm but also laughing?

Who gives a fuck?! You all got to see the band in their prime with MM. I can't afford to go (10/16 Phila.) and everyone is bitching about sitting or standing?
-
I'm sorry we offended you ;D
-

So b/c you can't go, then nobody should be able to express their feelings about the show they did go to?
I can't stand arguments like this and how people think b/c they have bigger problems/complaints then others, that other peoples problems/complaints are irrelavent.
-

Just trying to understand - as typically, we don't have the problem here in Germany: does not someone have to be the first one to stand up? And how long are you supposed to wait till you realize you have to sit down again?
-
I've never understood the sit-stand issue. Apparently if I'm sitting down at a concert, I'm not enjoying myself. I need to be standing and apparently have to headbang. Anybody who doesn't isn't having a good time and shouldn't be there. Honestly, I sit down in the balcony at DT shows and have a damn good time. I air drum sometimes, and enjoy myself.
-

LOL
-
Metalhead #1 at concert: "Dude, why isn't that chick standing up? EVERYONE else in the balcony is standing up."
Metalhead #2 at concert: "Uh...she is standing up."
Metalhead #1 at concert: "Oh."
-
LOL probably would be the conversation! I'm 5'0"!
-
The show last night was killer, great setlist and the whole band was *on*. I was lucky enough to be in the third row, albeit all the way over on JR's side, and it was great to see how happy Mangini and the band looked during the set. Only complaint is that I do *not* like those screen cubes... at least from my angle they just interfered with enjoying the live footage and cool animations.
Very nice to see mebert, mrjazzguitar, zgf, zeppdt, and cecilia before/during/after the show.
-
Show last night was sooo awesome. Great setlist, too, although I would've preferred Metropolis in there some where, but thats OK.
Mangini was so good and they all seemed to be totally on point as usual. Awesome. :tup
-
OK, slight change of plans since it looks like Jen won't be able to make it.
Sorry I couldn't make it to the bar. My buddy got hung up and didn't get into the city till way late.

I was disappointed. I love seeing peeps at meetups. Its half the fun of going to a show. Next time!
-
We really should've taken a group pic. There was a bunch of us there hanging out in the venue before and after the show. It would've been a cool thing to do.
-
Its half the fun of going to a show.
Seriously. I had actually forgotten just how much fun that part of it was. I just just as much fun last night hanging out w/ all you peeps as I did watching the show.

Same here with the S.F. show. I actually wish we had gotten there earlier and spent more time just hangin' out.
