You sure about this? I tried to buy tickets from two websites, they sell tickets from the orpheum theatre for shows dating all the way forward to december, but no dream theater on the 10th of october.
Here: https://www.livenation.com/search?tm_link=tm_homeA_header_search&q=orpheum+theatre&search.x=23&search.y=13 (make sure to choose "Boston" on the side menu)
and https://www.ticketmaster.com/Orpheum-Theatre-tickets-Boston/venue/8318

Also, why wasn't the DT official website updated with any of these dates?

And considering the venue in NJ now has the show on their website for the day after, a Boston date at this point would make sense.

There has to be a wallingford date.

I'm assuming they are hitting Wallingford. I think they have played there four times since the TOT tour. It's such an awesome venue for DT.

I was on right at 12, best available is balcony?  That's crazy.  There is a ticket agency selling 8 Mezzanine A dead center seats for $200 per, they had them before they went on sale.  I don't get how this is possible.  I can't pull up anything on the floor.  Crazy.

Now I'm searching I just pulled 2nd row mezzanine.  And now floor seats are popping up, just pulled row QQ dead center.

It's like they were filling from the back first.

Ha, I'm 201 and 202.  Don't know if you've been to the Orpheum before but these seats rock!  Sat in that section for 6 Degrees and TOT.  Except for those I had Row A, but any of these first 3 Mezz rows are amazing.

Well Chris, I'll see you there!

Yes I've been to the Orpheum plenty of times. I missed the TOT and 6D's tour (long story  :yeahright) but I had Mezz Row C on the right side for 8V.
I just checked my Ticket Stub Album.. I had the exact same seats (206) for Slayer in 1990!!!

That's funny I skipped 8V at the Orpheum and went to Radio City.  Wow Slayer at the Orpheum?  :o Surprised the balcony is still standing!

I'll be going, but I'll wait on tix. I don't wanna get sucked into paying all sorts of fees. Last time, they didn't sell out, and I'm not really concerned about seating.

Cheaper? Barely! It's 16.50 round trip on the commuter rail, and there's the added negative of having to wait until the last train at 12:10.

It's worth the extra 3.50 to me (That's right Bostonians, 20 bucks for the round trip could be yours!) to not have to dick around at the commuter rail stop.

Well I just found out yesterday that i will be going to this show , I got home from work and the wife was standing there with a birthday card smiling from ear to ear , so i open the card and its says happy birthday go look at your computer , she had the ticket seats and info up on the screen !!
Very cool gift and she set it up so my buddy that i just got into dream theater is going with me since my wife doesn't do my kind of music .
I know cool story bro but I think it is the best gift i ever got I just turned 46 and my wife is a few years older than me so i am very impressed with her doing this on her own !!

Oh another question how are the upper balcony seats as far as seeing the band?
I have seen DT and many other shows at the Orpheum but never sat in the upper  Balcony section
My seats are on the right center In the front of that section but its all the way in the back

Maybe we can meet up with Tac and some of the others here too!!

Wow. I'm an idiot. I completely missed, despite having bought a ticket, that this show is in Boston not Worcester. So yeah, obviously I don't need a ride to the freakin' Orpheum. Clearly I need to pay closer attention.

Got my tickets yesterday! :metal: First DT show after having missed them — — in Pittsburgh opening for maiden Maiden (got a little lost after having driven 12 hours from MA; long story).

The best I could find in my price range was a seat in Orchestra Row F, which is around the front of the section behind the double-letter area. I read that the place isn't very "tiered" so I hope I'll be able to get a clear view.

Now to celebrate with more ADToE :D

bumping this for bump's sake!!

1 week until my first DT concert - can't wait.   :metal   please be gentle with me LOL.  i've got the M&G package and everything.

looks like we're getting the WfS/FFH/CiaW/BAI/PMU (setlist b) set list if the pattern holds true.  its all good with me.

looking for some opinions on how the sound/acoustics are at this venue.  hope the sound guys have it together for this show. i've been reading that james is hard to hear during some portions of the show.  his singing is as strong as ever on this cd.

i'm making the trip from st albans, vermont to attend.  any other vermonters going to this show?

The orphium is an old theater and the sound tends to bounce around in there depending on were your sitting. its not a huge theater so not that bad .

This will be my 3rd time seeing them there and 7th total , very excited just wish i was down near the stage But my tickets were a Bday gift from the wife so thats cool as it is.

I'd drive in. It's a holiday and there shouldn't be hardly any traffic.

i've read that there is an early afternoon hockey game going on, and the blue man group is in town for a matinee show.  not from the area, so i don't know how that will affect traffic if at all.

The orphium is an old theater and the sound tends to bounce around in there depending on were your sitting. its not a huge theater so not that bad .

i bought the M&G package, so i should be somewhere in the first 5 rows.    :yarr

can't wait -- i'm effin' PUMPED!  MM's homecoming, and i read on the toronto thread that they changed the set list a little bit for that show yesterday (10/6)...creating a "setlist c".  wonder if we'll be getting that one, or another tweak to the list.

I'm driving in from CT too--as it's a holiday, driving all the way in shouldn't be a problem.  I booked a hotel room so my kids and I won't have to drive all the way back in the middle of the night.  I wouldn't be doing it that way, but my ludicrously low bid on Priceline actually found a taker!  I'm getting the room for a third of its usual price, so it's much more reasonable than the usual Boston rates.
Toronto gives me hope--wouldn't Boston be a great place to debut Lost Not Forgotten??? (If you're listening, DT, wouldn't that be a great idea?)
Also, remember this is a homecoming gig for Mangini, so maybe we'll get something extra special!

I've had good luck with an outfit called Central Parking, which has a bunch of locations in Boston--there's one on Beacon Street about .1 of a mile from the Orpheum.  If you go to the website (just google Central Parking Boston), there's even a coupon.  They're cheaper than a lot of other parking in Boston.

Find the Orpheum and then park as soon as you can. There's a parking garage at Downtown Crossing and also underneath the Commons.

The Bruins game and Blue Man Group should have no effect on the traffic.

Just heard DT soundchecking the instrumental section of Breaking all Illusions. This may be the most excited I've ever been for a concert.

They must be better live than on CD, because their albums suck with a capital S. No offense to anyone who likes them but they just seem to me to be the definition of a "poor man's Metallica."

Special guest according to Eren basbug is Eugene Friesen the cellist who played on Vacant!

Eren said he wrote the cello part for Eugene, so that means they aren't actually playing vacant. Which would have been neat. Cool nonetheless  :tup

Well, there's at least one song in the current rotation that has cello in it, so he actually makes sense as a guest.  (although I'm a bit disappointed that it's not Gary, because I had talked myself into believing it was him)

The special guest was indeed Eugene Friesen playing an (electric!) cello on Beneath the Surface. It was an amazing show, I give props to the guys from Trivium for not getting upset at the lack of headbanging, the main guy (Matt Heafy) even talked about how he was just there to have fun and pump everybody up for DT, which earned him accolades in my book.

Great set, it was Set List A (Silent Man/Beneath the Surface) but Great Debate was dropped for BAI, although the order shifted around...sorry I'm not more clear, it was an amazing show and I'm still in the after-glow.

Yeah sorry I forgot to post the set.  Surprisingly enough it was the same as the last show (Oct 8):

Bridges in the Sky
These Walls
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Endless Sacrifice
Drum Solo
The Ytse Jam
The Silent Man
Beneath the Surface
Outcry
On the Backs of Angels
Forsaken
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Breaking All Illusions
Encore:
Under a Glass Moon

I just got back from it, awesome show. Trivium was great, I thought it was really cool how matt heafy was really chill saying "you guy enjoy the show however you want, sitting down tapping your foot, or jumping around going crazy, up to you. just have a good fucking time". DT was great as always, I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw Mangini's drum solo, the guy is a god damn monster.

I think that's been there deal so far because that's what they said in Toronto also. I thought this was really cool though. I was rocking out like all hell to DT, but where I'm less familiar with Trivium I just took it in and enjoyed their set. (They probably made a fan out of me next time I give In Waves a spin). But before they started one tune, he said something along the lines of "We're just here to have a good time and we hop you guys are having a good time. We're here to pump you guys up for Dream Theater so on this next one, do whatever it is that you do. Whether thats head banging, snapping, clapping, tapping your toe. Let's have a good time!"

*starts a really heavy riff*

Really dug their on stage presence and their approach to pumping people up. Really cool guys, Trivum seem. :hat

Further back in the balcony, DT's volume was only slightly excessive.  I needed the earplugs to make out anything clearly by Trivium, however.  For those talking about how great Trivium was, I disagree vehemently, however.  This is the first time I can recall seeing an opener whose music I even own and enjoy (The Crusade), and emerging as even less of a fan than I was going in.  I'm not a fan of the screamy/growly vocals, and this is the first time I've seen a band in which two people were screaming at the same time.  While I admit that the novelty of harmonized dual growls was interesting for the first few seconds, there was just so much of it! Every time they switched to clean vox, complete with nice harmonies, I wondered why they kept doing that stuff instead.  Not my thing.
This was my 8th DT show, and first with Mangini.  Holy crap! I never thought I'd say this a year ago when Portnoy split, but this was the best DT gig I've ever seen! Mangini is not human.  The waves of positive emotion heading his way from the audience are an almost surreal experience, and I was almost in tears at one point, especially when I realized why we were all feeling that way.  A year ago, I thought my favorite band was over.  Last night, they were not just back, they were tighter than ever, and having a blast, and the focal point around which that renewed spirit revolved was that little guy from Boston.  Thanks for making this possible, Mr. Mangini!

I said the exactly same thing to the friend and a fellow long time DT fan that I was at the show with.
But on the other hand for me the love Mike M is receiving is not only because of what he is doing with DT, it is because of his own personality and professionalism. This makes him such a perfect fit and such a loved member of the band.
Wonderful posting that made me smile. Thank you!

Agree 100%.  That was DT show # 25 for me, and easily Top 3. (Radio City will always be #1)  Portnoy is probably my biggest drum influence, and I initially thought they were done when he announced he was leaving.  Once I heard MM play on ANTR on the doc, I knew they found the guy.  He just fits in so well it's incredible.  I like that they are playing to a click, makes everything even tighter, light cues and perfectly synced.  Just an amazing show.

Agreed. I was in the balcony as well and DT was definitely too loud. I believe it was just a function of being in the balcony though...sound is generally pretty good on the floor at the Orpheum. Keyboard mix was off for couple of songs, but seems like they fixed it.

Mangini though....Jesus, what a drummer. And even better guy. He saved this band, folks....I hope you all realize that.

They were in a pretty tight spot when Portnoy quit.  I don't know if you were at the concert last night or have seen any of the gigs since Mangini joined, but I think I agree that Mangini "saved" Dream Theater in that both is technical abilities as a drummer and his personality were an excellent fit, and you could really, really feel the love flowing to him from the audience last night.  I can't speak for anyone else, but that's what I get from the "saved" comment.

I was not at that particular concert, but totally agree for the feel in general and it was pretty apparent at the show I was :) After the set when he came in front to join the rest of the guys, he was looking at us saying "WOW.. WOW WOW" with such a smile... It was a wonderful and very emotional moment for me and I think for a big part of the audience.

I was there and I know what you mean, I was very happy to see Mangini become so accepted and appreciated by all the fans. But I never really had doubts that DT wouldn't be able to go on when Portnoy left. Whether it's Mangini or any of the other drummers they auditioned for the job, they would be able to push forward and keep making great music.  You're not wrong in that Mike Mangini is an absolutely fantastic fit for the band, he fits in so well and is clearly having the greatest time of his life playing with the guys and that's awesome.  I just don't think that without mangini they would be doomed

I think they'd have been in a tough spot without Mangini. Just the vibe I got from the other drummers in the audition video had me scared. Virgil looked like he didn't know where he was half the time, Lang looked powerful but no finesse, and so on. JMO.

If you look at all the polls on average it's about a 2 to 1 favoring MM over MP for the group not matter what. That's really impressive with us being the nit picky fans we are. I can't imagine anyone else would rate that high overall.

For me, the humility he continues to display is what was really needed at this point and it comes off as very genuine, not manufactured or contrived.  I don't know if any of the other drummers would have been able to pull that off quite as well as Mangini has done.  He was, literally, the perfect fit.

By the way, last night's drum solo was THE FIRST drum solo I have ever sat through, all the way to the end, and not been bored.   :hefdaddy

what a friggin' show...definitely worth the drive from vermont.  my first DT show ever, and definitely will not be my last.   :metal

got to chat with some folks before the M&G - mainly a guy that looked like actor ron perlman, and a guy from providence (i think) who brought his guitar to get signed.  everyone there for the M&G were really nice.

the M&G was awesome.  as i feared, this 43 year old guy turned in to a 13 year-old at a bieber concert.  i was so nervous around the guys, it was all i could do to keep it together.  when i walked up for the picture, JP looked and smiled at me and for a moment i thought he was going to put his arm around me and welcome me in to the group lol.  going through the autograph line was cool, but again my words failed me when i tried to talk to the guys.   :blush  i think i told MM that i looked forward to hearing him with the band for many years to come.  JR looked a little perturbed or had something on his mind.  maybe he was having an 0ff-day or not feeling all that great.  JMX looked directly at me as i blurted out something...not sure if he asked me a question or if he was just giving me his undivided attention, but i couldn't hear him all that well so i'll never know.      i joked with JP something about "i told myself i would keep it together here, but i don't know..." to which he gave me a big smile and said "well, don't lose it on me now" LOL.  i told him that i really apprecicated the M&G opportunity.  i told labrie that i loved his voice, and that i didn't give a shit what the critics say about it, to which he replied "bleh-fuck the critics.  who gives a shit what they say, right?"  made me grin from ear to ear.  the guys were all very friendly and cordial.  what an experience.  would do it again in a heartbeat.

on to the show...i had 4th row (floor), right center.  if MP was still in the band, i proably would have been spit on!   :)   never heard of trivium before, but what an opener.  not my kind of music really, but i have to agree that they had great stage presence and a great job of getting the crowd pumped up for DT.

my god - what a show by DT.  what a SHOW!  being in the 4th row, it was pretty loud - seemed a little excessive considering the size of the theater.  i think i was getting 1/2 of what was coming off stage and 1/2 of what was coming through the front speakers.  the vocal and music seemed almost the same level, which made it a little difficult to make out labrie.  but i am not complaining by any means.

a very entertaining, energetic show.  the opening video is hilarious.  great stuff.  the guys looked happy, healthy, and were having fun up there.  loved labrie's pirate coat and that mic stand kicks ass.  got to see JR with the zenn riffer jamming it up with JP center stage, and JMX and JP getting together a couple of times.  there was a spot where JP got up on the drum riser and motioned with his head to JMX to come on up.  it looked like Myung shook his head "no" at first, but he ended up climbing up there too.  friggin' awesome.

any video you've seen of MM's drum solo does not do it justice.  you have to see this guy.  he is an UNBELIEVABLE MONSTER!  how he doesn't break 5 drum heads a show, i'll never know.  very intense - bashing the life out of those drums - but never out of control.  he's having the time of his life up there, and he is so enjoying this opportunity.  thank god JP and the guys kept this thing going and we are pretty fortunate to have a great guy like mangini in the band.  there will always be a place in my heart for MP, but mangini is the real deal folks.  phenomenal.

i was a little surprised we got the same show as the 10/8 show since they have been alternating, but maybe it was because they had the opportunity of Eugene Friesen performing with them or just because they had a day off.

Totally agree with you once again, my feelings towards him as well. He was my favourite for the spot from the first minute I saw him and I was so scared they would take somebody else. And every interview, and meeting him recently showed me he was the perfect fit indeed. His passion to be there and the way he accept the whole situation combined with his exceptional professionalism makes him the fit he is.

What a Show!!
First time i had to sit way up in the balcony just before the railing but this was my 3rd time seeing them there and besides the meat head sitting next to my buddy's kid complaining how trivium didn't play long enough and asking stupid questions like why is everyone clapping and screaming for the drummer LOL!!
but this was defiantly one of the best out of the 7 times i have seen them James sounded so good i though , a few times i lost JP but they fixed it .
all i could do is smile like a proud parent the whole show i don't know why but thats how i felt and as hot as HELL as it was up there at times i actually got the chills LOL .
well DT has a new rookie fan as my buddy drought his son for his first ever concert he loved it and has been listening to DT for a few months here and the but is nor going after all there cd's lol , I LOVE IT! first I go it his Dad hooked last year Show at the palladium and now his son whoohoo!!.

So anyway i got to work thismorning and made a playlist from the setlist of the show and i am now smileing ear to ear !! oh and  MANGINI YOU MONSTER!!!!

But Dream Theater was way, way, way, way too fucking loud.

I tend to agree - Perhaps not so much the volume level, but the mixing maybe...?

I took my 15 year old son to the Orpheum to see his first rock concert AND his first DT concert & he was absolutely blown away...  Our seats were awesome (Mezz Row A), JP and JL both looked right at him and pointed as he was standing up and rocking it (which made his day), and their set list was spectacular, as I really didn't expect them to play so many pieces from so many albums.

I did think it could have been mixed better for the venue though - I was thinking that, if I didn't already know all the songs by heart, I would have been lost several times.  Probably not a good first DT concert for the uninitiated, but a great show for a long time fan.

How far they've come since I saw them on the I+W tour -

And I must admit, I never once missed MP.  Mangini is absolutely amazing and what's more, he looked like he was having more fun than any of us...

In a word, it was awesome & it was great to share it with my son...
