Haven't seen a thread yet for tonight's gig, so I added this. I will be attending of course.
Having seen videos from Rome and Verona, I'm really looking forward to tonight. And now that they're in town, we should be in for a great evening.
-
How many hours until DT go on?
-
it will be 9:15 pm there in about 5 hours
so id say 5-6 hours from now
-
I can't be with You Guys tonight because I'm going to work at 7pm, night shift... :-\ but, if I find a moment I'll be trying to catch up with You Guys ;) Have a good one!! :metal
-
Unless there's an easy way to post on here from an iPhone (i.e. not using the regular layout) I'll only be tweeting while there.
I'm sengeezer (https://twitter.com/sengeezer (https://twitter.com/sengeezer)) on twitter and will try to stick to #dtzh as a tag.

Just please tell me if you really guided JR through Zürich

I wish. I was half an hour away from where he was, so by the time I could've been there I very probably wouldn't have found him anymore. Besides, that would seem a bit stalker-ish.

Wow, seriously? DT do 3 shows in a row? These guys are on fire!
-

Apparently, LTL was omitted tonight. This kind of worries me.

maybe for the curfew??

Are you afraid it could be due to James's vocal condition?

This is possible. The encore isn't usually the song axed if a curfew is present, but LtL is shorter than TCOT. So they may have cut LtL and moved TCOT to the encore. The guy who was posting the setlist to twitter mentioned that there was a break before TCOT, which definitely supports this theory.
-
Maybe LTL was chosen also because there were to IaW songs?

Or maybe they planned that because of JLB vocal condition...but yesterday in Verona was awesome..i stick to the curfew
-
I was hoping today that the setlist will be different for every other country, but no ;) It would be to great ;) Good setlist anyway, still can't wait to see Them ;)
edit: are these "mistakes" which appears on descriptions on setlist.fm are for real??
-
Oh god, I hope it was the curfew...I wanna see LTL in 13 days so bad.qq

Yeah TCOT was great in Zurich yesterday. I think that the best so far, of course, I'm only watching YT videos so hard to tell because of the quality, but it was the best so far for me.

OMG JP is getting so big now and not in a good way. Worried about my favorite musician! Also JLB is putting on the pounds too. Makes them look older.
-
He nailed every song in that show hands down. I just watched them all. They're pumped and at their best right now.

That's how strength training looks when you eat and squat and deadlift increasing amounts. A couple simple changes in his diet and JP could quickly look like Hugh Jackman.

Hmmm, check around the 7:31 mark, I think someone stepped on James' tail. :rollin
Aside from that he sounds much better on this than the first show.
-
I think these videos from Zurich sound great! You don't get that blown out sound as soon as the drums come in like most of the other videos so far. There was another HD vid from one of the Italy shows but to me it sounded too dead and muffled. I'm really loving these videos the most so far out of the ones I have seen (just wish the venue was big enough to have the screen behind MM).
-
The amount of feeling and emotion that JP plays with in that count video is just amazing.
-
Those Zurich videos are amazing. Mangini is ON fire. I just had the videos playing while doing other stuff, and I for a moment forgot it was another drummer we were talking about. :lol
-
So with my ears still ringing, here's a quick review (as promised) to complement my live tweets from yesterday:
Even though you can expect to see DT in small venues in Switzerland, Komplex 457 was something special. Although this "intimate atmosphere" (JLB) allowed for a much more immediate enjoyment of the gig, the venue turned out to be too small to erect the video screens (or leave enough room for Anathema's drummer at the center of the stage for that matter.)
Although they definitely look older now, their performance has only improved. I guess the shock to the system of MP leaving may have indeed been just what they really needed. Not only did they play like they meant it, but they also had fun. Mangini's vibrant happiness really seems to rub off on them.
Speaking of Mangini: What a guy! Not only did he do his limb switching routine during the solo but he also played with grace, elegance and incredible precision throughout the 2 hour gig.
The crowd definitely gave him our part of the "Welcome to the family" sentiment and he was as genuine as we've come to know him, definitely showing his appreciation and sheer joy of being a part of all that Dream Theater represents.
I very much enjoyed seeing the guys "having it" and whipping Swiss fans into an uncharacteristically loud frenzy.
On a side note, there was a VIP area with what I suspect some special guests. Unless I'm mistaken, Frank Solomon was there (enjoying the gig) and possibly even some of the guys' family members.
For the next time (High Voltage on the 24th in my case), I hope they'll at least switch things up a bit beyond simply cutting the set short.
-
lol, LaBrie says "grazie" at the end of Tuscany. He thinks he's still in Italy. :lol

Actually, Italian is one of the four official languages of Switzerland, so maybe not. ;)
-
Does JLB know that?
DOES HE?!
-
he decided what the four official languages were
-
just have to say that James sounds really great :metal

ohh man the last TIIIIMEE in UAGM. hahahah
