Yeah, I'm doing 9 members. Deal with it.
I won't really be forcing you all to have a theme for every round. I'll still have a general theme, but I won't knock you down too much for not abiding by it. I feel like it's a better idea for you all to send me the best music possible. Anyway, here's my last.fm: https://www.last.fm/user/zxlkho
Have fun! Round 1 is open.
-
What is round one?

I think it's balalaika music.

Derpity derp.

I would totally beg to be included in this, but I'd just be a massive troll and send an ICP song for every round.

Good. I'd have someone to put in last place every round.
But seriously, there's already 9 players, and if dethklok09 (he's mia) doesn't show up soon I'm replacing him with Zander.
-
:millahhhh
-
Okay fine, you're in and dethklok is out.
-
You've made a wise decision.
-
My submission - "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go," Wham
-
Can all of the players here please start a massive conspiracy to only send 80s number 1 hits with considerable synth parts?

Sorry, I've been at work all day. Will get one sent out tonight
-
expect results tonight.
-
I already know them.
-
Ryan, if you keep your roulette up at this pace, I might actually get to do mine before I die. :lol
-
All roulettes are fast in the beginning but go slower and slower.
-
By tonight, I mean in like 10 minutes.
-
All roulettes are fast in the beginning but go slower and slower.
Truth. Really I think they should only last about 5 rounds.
-
I think 8 rounds is good, if things move along smoothly. It's the contestants as well... open rounds are much easier than themed, so people go through their music libraries trying to find a perfect fit for the theme.
-
I was only planning on doing 6 rounds, but if it goes fast I'll do more.
-
I might only do 5 or 6 rounds for mine. We'll see how fast it goes, I don't want to take forever. Not even because of the people in line after me, I just wouldn't want it going on for months because I'd get tired of it. :lol
DERAILIN YOUR THREAD WHATCHU GONNA DO ABOUT IT

Round 1 (Open Round):
5 Quadrochosis: No Man - "Truenorth":
WOW this was awesome. It was very eerie throughout. The flute is really awesome and fits well in the beginning. Vocals are great as well, and when the electronic section came in, bricks were shat. I'm kind of mad that I haven't checked out No-Man before, with it being a Steven Wilson project. Brb, downloading this album.
4 sonatafanica: Chroma Key - "Again Today":
I really REALLY liked this, but that's no surprise because it's Kevin Moore. I always thought he was the best part about Dream Theater before he left. I'll definitely check out Chroma Key further.
4 Gorille85: Foxy Shazam - "Oh Lord":
Okay, so this was the weirdest video I've ever seen. But damn this song was amazing. It was definitely in a similar vein to Queen and I loved it. Also, holy shit that guy can sing.
3 antigoon: The River Empires - "A Toast to the Snake King":
I've heard many good things about this band, and I've been meaning to check them out. It reminded me a lot of The Dear Hunter for some reason. I liked this song a lot. I actually had downloaded this album a long time ago but never listened. I’ll be fixing that tonight.
3 Lateralus88: Rammstein - "Bück Dich":
FUCKING. METAL. The main riff was so energetic and awesome. I could see myself really enjoying this band live. :metal
3 Ravenheart: VAST - "Here":
Sounded very much like Nine Inch Nails, which is good. I really liked it. I don’t have much else to say here. :lol
2 dtismajesty: Susanne Sundfør - "Father Father":
This was.... interesting. Her voice was really great. And I mean REALLY great. But I'm not sure why the song as a whole didn't grab my attention throughout. I didn't feel like it was particularly moving, but maybe it's just a grower.
2 AcidIainLTE: Faith No More - "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies":
I've heard some stuff from this band before and liked it, just never bothered to listen to them further. I really loved the music throughout, and Mike Patton's vocals were great whenever he wasn't singing "I never felt this much alive." It was hard to place this song so low, tbh. But there were a few here that were much better.
1 LieLowTheWantedMan: Animals as Leaders - "Tempting Time":
This band sounds almost identical to Periphery. That's not really a bad thing though, as I definitely liked this song. Nothing just really stood out for me too much. It sucks I have to put this last. :\

Round 2: as I write this I am listening to Black Lake Niðstång by Agalloch. Give me something that’s just as dark. If you read the OP, you don’t actually have to, but something like that would be cool.

1 point for AAL!?
Tempting Time is epic.

I'm not too big on Djent.

I like how Gorille and dtismajesty sent songs they sent me in my roulette.

I should mention that I haven't been able to stop listening to Gorille's song since I posted though results.
and for some reason it won't scrobble on last.fm :(
-
Still need Lateralus88, Gorille85, LieLowthewhateverman.
-
Fucking hell.
-
I'll send mine once I think of dark music you aren't familiar with that isn't incredibly incredibly weird.
-
Weird isn't necessarily a bad thing.
-
My weird is pretty damned weird though. :P
-
idk, it's up to you.
-
just send a song, we need to take advantage of his excitement and eagerness while it lasts!

But then we'd still be waiting for mister Lageralus88 over there.

Only waiting on Gorille now.

SEND HIM SCOTT WALKER
I actually came very close to sending him a song off of Tilt...
Tilt is a really great album.
I sent LLTWM a song from The Drift, which is probably the freakiest and most horrifying album I've ever heard. :lol
-
I SENT MY SONG IN BY THE WAY JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW

Round 2 results:
This round was very interesting. There were 3 clear levels in terms of how much I liked the songs. The first was Joe, Zander, and Alex’s songs, then all the songs that scored 3, then the other two. I couldn’t pick a song out of that middle group to give a 2, so I just gave them all 3’s. Deal with it, you douchebags. You all suck for sending so much good music.
5 antigoon: Broken Bells – “The High Road”:
I LOVED this song. The whole song has a hip hop type feel throughout, which I really liked. The other highlight is the vocals, which are stunning. Amazing song. I’ve already listened to this album once since I heard this. :metal
4 ravenheart: Sarah Fimm – “Story of Us”:
Seriously, where do you find all of these Sarahs and Emilies? This song was amazing, she has a great voice, and I loved the electronic elements. Again, I’ve already listened to this album a bit after hearing this.
4 Lateralus88: Novembre – “Swim Seagull In The Sky”:
I knew I wouldn’t dislike this. I have Novembre’s Materia and I love that album, but I don’t have anything else by them. This clearly has a very different style in that it’s much heavier and has death vocals (they’re kind of like Opeth). I really liked this song and I’ll be checking them out more.
3 Dtismajesty: Bersarin Quartett – “St. Petersburg”:
This was… gorgeous. That’s the only way I can really describe it. I enjoyed this a lot.
3 AcidRainLTE: Deadsoul Tribe - "Feed (Part 1 - Stone By Stone)":
The Tool influence is so evident here. I really loved the opening guitar riff and how it grew throughout the song. This was great, and I’ll definitely be downloading this album.
3 Gorille85: Stolen Babies – “Lifeless”:
I’ve heard of these guys somewhere before, probably on Daedalus Radio or in another thread somewhere. Anyway, I really, really enjoyed this, and it definitely fits the theme of “dark” very well. That chick’s voice is really great.
3 Quadrochosis: Peter Gabriel – “Signal to Noise”:
This was not what I thought Peter Gabriel would sound like at all(I haven’t listened to his solo stuff at all before). With that said, I liked this quite a bit. There was a constant buildup throughout the song which I thought was pretty cool. Good song.
2 LieLowTheWantedMan: Dem Guten, Schonen,Wahren – “Amon Duul II”:
What is this I don’t even. The music was wonderful but THOSE VOX. That’s probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. :lol Not sure if I could see myself enjoying this in the future, but it was definitely an interesting listen. :P
1 Sonatafanica: Disasterpeace – “At the Zombie Gates”:
Okay, maybe chiptune isn’t my thing. This was kinda cool, but I really didn’t see why this had to be 8 bit. I thought it could be a lot better if it wasn’t. :\
Round 3: Something heavy. Interpret this any way you want. It obviously could mean metal, or it could mean something aggressive vocally or even lyrically.
EDIT: Scores.

Round 3 results:
5 Dtismajesty: Russian Circles – “Enter”:
This was indeed post-metal brilliance. It was fucking epic. I’ve never actually listened to ANYTHING from the post-metal genre before, even though I love a lot of post-rock. Obviously inherent in the “post” genres are the huge dynamic shifts, which there are definitely a few of in this song. I absolutely loved it.
4 LieLowTheWantedMan: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – “The Donkey Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens The Discussion”:
This was my first listen to this band that I’ve heard so much about. It nearly overwhelmed me the first listen, but the second time I fucking loved it. There’s a lot of cool stuff going on. I’ll definitely check them out further. Didn’t they pull an Oceansize or something recently?
4 Gorille85: SikTH – “Bland Street Bloom”:
I’ve heard that this band is a huge influence on Protest the Hero. It’s pretty obvious actually, mostly because its just all over the place throughout the entire song. I loved it because of that. I feel like this is an example of when very heavy breakdowns are extremely effective in metal. Most of the time they’re shit though :P
3 Ravenheart: Dan Swanö – “Add Reality”:
Initially I thought I was going to turned off by the synths, but they took a back seat to the awesome guitar riffs and melodies for most of the song after the intro. I really really liked this guy’s vocals. It was hard finding information about this guy online because he mostly does work with other artists, so I’ll ask you: does he have any other albums besides Moontower? (I was soooo close to giving this a 4)
3 Sonatafanica: Björk – “Army of Me”:
I’ve neglected checking out Björk for the longest time, and I should not have done that because I really enjoyed this. You were right about the bass, too. :metal Anyway, great song. Which album should I get first? Also, your link you sent was messed up. It only played the first minute or so of the song, but I found it on youtube, so it’s cool.
3 Quadrochosis: Strapping Young Lad – “All Hail the New Flesh”:
This was really good. I’ve never been big on Devin Townsend stuff (mostly because of the production style…) and this certainly didn’t change that, but it was definitely an awesome metal song. :metal
2 antigoon: Emanuel & The Fear - "Jimme's Song":
This is the opposite of heavy, but as I said I don’t really care. This was a really fun song to listen to, but I can’t say much more than that. It just didn’t grab me like the song you sent last round.
2 Lateralus88: Arch Enemy – “Bury Me an Angel”:
I was a bit skeptical when you first sent this song, since the only real Melodeath band I enjoy is In Flames (I fucking love them to death, btw). With that said, the riffs in this song are fucking AWESOME. It only gets knocked down (it probably would have been a 4 tbh) because those might be the worst vocals from a death metal band I’ve EVER heard.
1 AcidRainLTE: Textures – “Laments of an Icarus”:
So when I first turned this song on, I thought it was something out of my roommate’s stereo, and I almost wanted to turn it off. Thankfully it got better later on, and it ended up okay overall, but I can’t see myself getting too into this…
Overall, I think this round was a bit weaker than the previous ones.

Round 4: Send something electronic. If you don’t have anything, that’s cool, just send whatever.
-
woot. Glad you liked it. And yeah, they just finished their last tour and are in the process of making their final album. Electronic, hmm I don't have much, but I have some...
-
Make sure I don't also already listen to it. :P
-
Yeah, I will. :P

It was hard finding information about this guy online because he mostly does work with other artists, so I’ll ask you: does he have any other albums besides Moontower? Glad you liked it :tup
And yeah, he's done a shitload of his own stuff, but only one album under his own name. His primary projects are Edge of Sanity (defunct) and Nightingale. He's also done a lot of other side projects, like Unicorn, Odyssey, and Subway Mirror.
Electronic for the next round? Hmm, I think I might have something good :millahhhh
-
Fuck you, I'm not sending you anything.
-
Good. I'll put your "song of nothing" in last place again.
-
Good.
-
Which album should I get first?
I started with Debut, but Homogenic seems to be what most people start with so that I guess
-
Vespertine is my personal favorite Bjork album.
-
Yeah Vespertine is astounding, but I don't think it's necessarily the ideal place to start
-
I'm glad you liked the song :metal :metal :metal
You're dead on about the "dynamic shifts," they're probably the trademark of the band, if anything is.
-
Yeah Vespertine is astounding, but I don't think it's necessarily the ideal place to start
Yeah, Homogenic is probably the best intro for new fans. That's what I used.
-
By putting Russian Circles at the top (though my personal favorite is "Station") you've almost redeemed yourself for the pitiful Peter Gabriel, Disasterpeace, and SYL rankings.
Actually, I just bought Enter and I'm on my second listen of it now. Just as good as Station and Geneva. :metal :metal
-
I sent it you fuck

5 sonatafanica: Phantogram – “Mouthful of Damonds”:
Yeah, so I really like triphop, particularly Massive Attack and Portishead. I’ve been meaning to check out Phantogram for a while but I never got around to it. I’ll definitely look into them now.
4 antigoon: Florence + The Machine – “Cosmic Love”:
This was awesome. I won’t write any more because you are a douche and you posted it in the thread instead of PMing me.
4 ClairvoyantDouche: Shpongle – “Around the World in a Tea Daze”:
To be honest, I always thought Shpongle was one of those mindfuck metal bands. Instead they’re mindfuck electronic! :lol I fucking loved this song from the very beginning. You were right about the flute solos :hefdaddy Excellent song.
3 ravenheart: Emilie Simon – “Dame de lotus”:
This song has a pop vibe throughout, which I wasn’t really big on, but wow her vocals were so great. From looking her up, some of her stuff is labeled triphop, so I’ll definitely check her out further.
3 Quadrochosis: Blue Foundation – “Eyes on Fire (Zeds Dead Remix)”:
Okay, so I’ve heard this once before on your radioshow. I’ve been pretty vocal with my dislike of dubstep before, but I quite liked this. It’s a lot more subtle dubstep than most other stuff that I’ve heard. Good song.
3 Lateralus88: Gorillaz – “Dirty Harry”:
Holy fuck what am I watching. That video was so weird. :lol Anyway, this is a pretty good chill song. The only thing I really disliked was the rap section near the end. It was still enjoyable though.
2 Gorille85: Mr. Bungle – “Desert Search for Techno Allah”:
Well, this song was weird as hell. It was strangely catchy starting about half way through though. Good song. :tup
2 LieLowTheWantedMan: Tangerine Dream – “Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares”:
So this wasn’t electronic so much as it was ambient. It’s all good though, I liked it.
1 AcidRainLTE: Microsoft – “Windows XP Startup”
Words cannot describe the brilliance of this song. I nearly died while listening to this because my lungs collapsed from the epic crescendo in the middle section. Because of physical harm, I am penalizing you 4 points, so you only get 1.

Hah, when I saw the word Sphongle, that's exactly the song I was hoping to see. Great track....the last 1/3 is just brilliant. :hefdaddy
2 LieLowTheWantedMan: Tangerine Dream – “Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares”:
So this wasn’t electronic so much as it was ambient. It’s all good though, I liked it.
It's a disgrace that song is so low :'( I still tear up every-time I listen to it...beauty beyond words. Though if you weren't already a fan of ambient I can see why it wouldn't be as engaging as these other tracks.
Anyway, carry on....this is a good roulette :corn

Other than the top 3 songs, this round was lacking in quality compared to the others.
Round 5:
5 ClairvoyantCat: The Daysleepers – “Run”:
I don’t have any experience with dream pop other than Mew (and I fucking love them btw). TBH I didn’t really hear where much of the dream pop elements came in, but this was a really great song (although a little long for this round :P)
4 AcidRainLTE: Gregory and the Hawk – “Doubtful”:
Seth has been telling me to listen to this for a while. I am DEFINITELY doing that now. This was a good way to redeem yourself. Great song.
4 Quadrochosis: Thomas Giles – “Scared”:
This was excellent. Very emotional. Idk what else to say.
4 Gorille: Everything Everything – “Suffragette Suffragette”:
This song is insanely catchy. It started off really strange for me, but I liked it a lot starting in the second verse. It REALLY sounds like he’s singing “Who’s gonna sit on your face when I’m gone?” :lol
3 Sonatafanica: My Morning Jacket – “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream, Pt. 1”:
I downloaded the new album from this band that was just released, but haven’t listened yet. I’ll definitely give it a listen. This was really catchy.
3 Lateralus88: Queen – “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon”:
This song gave me the biggest smile, especially in the last 20 seconds or so… Queen is a band I’ve know that I would love but never checked out. I know I should do that soon.
2 Antigoon: Monsters of Folk – “Say Please”:
HEY! It’s the dude from Bright Eyes. I’m not that big on Bright Eyes, but I enjoy them a bit. This song was way different from what they play though. I liked it.
2 Ravenheart: Depeche Mode – “Songs of Faith and Devotion”:
I’ve heard quite a bit of Depeche Mode before, and I was never big on it. This was no exception. I can tell they have some great stuff going on (I liked the strings a lot), but there’s something that keeps me from enjoying it tbh. I just don’t know what it is. (maybe the vocals?)
2 LieLowTheWantedMan: Cardiacs – “Angleworm Angel”:
EVERYTHING YOU SEND ME IS FROM THE 70’S. That’s not a bad thing though, this song was pretty good. One of the comments on the video said “Sounds like a whale on stilts blundering into a church and sparking a riot.” :rollin

That's because I never saw you make that post because I barely read anything in GMD.
Also, I love how LieLowTheWantedMan has the same points as me when I sent the Windows XP login music for one round :lol

How come you're not bothering with the final round?
I've pretty much lost all interest tbh. Also I haven't really gotten any really good songs in a few rounds.
And also, I wanted to let other people go ahead of me since they're waiting.
-
You should of had a final round so I could beat Seth.

Lame...

And I got crap for making posts like this.
Ban yourself
-
You did? ???
-
Yeah, back in November with Tick, I made the same sort of post and he flipped and lots of people gave me crap. :lol
-
Ah ok. :lol Yeah tick gets antsy about it because he knows his grammar and spelling aren't always great, so picking on it could be seen as a bit mean. Whereas I know with Quad it was a simple mistake so decided to poke fun. :D
-
I only just realized now that, it was indeed a grammatical error. I thought you were just mimicking me for wanted another round so I could try to beat Seth. :lol
