I know, lots of people. Don't worry, I'll make less rounds. I want to have more people and less rounds to have more perspective, so if it ever begins to take to long I'll just cut it off.
https://www.last.fm/user/dtismajesty
However, I expect this to go quickly regardless because I'm a high schooler with no job and a shitload of freetime.
Anyway, the people
Dethklolk
Voxyn
Gorille
Marvellous
Letters
Sonata
Soundscape
Jsem
SneakyBlueberry
LieLow
King
I will send out a PM soon unless it seems unnecessary.
Anyway, I will throw in some strange rounds just for the fun of it, but for round 1 it is completely open. I don't want to do an elimination thing because I don't want people to be afraid to take risks. That about covers it!
Also, you've probably guessed that the title is a joke.
-
Don't worry. I got lots of terrible music for ya. :metal
-
last.fm link maybe?
Not that I don't already know most of the stuff you listen to :lol
-
Don't worry. I got lots of terrible music for ya. :metal
What? Terrible music?
I said I wanted songs like Friday :-\
Also my bad, I'll edit the OP with a last fm link.
-
I think you should let me in on this, being the awesome teen I am. Teens gotta help eachother out, bro...man...dude...broseph...broman...broseidon, king of the brocean...or not. It's up to you.
-
*looks for a cover version of Friday*
-
Sent.
-
I have so much artists I want to send that I can't choose.
-
Sent. I am confident.
-
I think you should let me in on this, being the awesome teen I am. Teens gotta help eachother out, bro...man...dude...broseph...broman...broseidon, king of the brocean...or not. It's up to you.
Yeah. My only gripe is that I've already far exceeded the normal limit of users.
Tell you what, if I see round one moving quick enough I'll PM you and have you hop on board.
I just don't want anyone to think I'm being selfish with having a bunch of people...
-
Cool. :tup
-
So wait. What's the scoring system here?
-
7 points - best
6 points - 2 runners up
5 points - 2 more
4 points - 2 more
3 points - 2 more
2 points - 1 more
1 point - 1 moar
-
Also, you've probably guessed that the title is a joke.
A joke that's highly likely to backfire on you. :lol
-
2 more? So it's:
7 points - 1 people
6 points - 2 people
5 points - 4 people
4 points - 6 people
3 points - 8 people
2 points - 10 people
1 point - 11 people
I were aware that you had a lot of submissions, but 42?
:neverusethis:
-
Hope you like new age, classical, and death metal. :)
-
You have a great taste so it would be a both awesome and difficult roulette!
-
Only 3 more. I've got 8 and listened through them all once. Great stuff so far from everyone!
-
Sent!!
-
just deciding on mine now, tough choice
-
Sent, and I am definitely not confident as your taste is so versatile, it's hard to pin down something you'd definitely like.
-
Sent
I could end up last or first, dunno :S
-
OMG WHERE ARE THE WRITEUPS YOU ARE SO SLOW SUSPEND THIS ROULETTE
-
:rollin
-
I've got all the songs and I've listened to most of them twice, all of them once. I'll have results in a few minutes.
I was really surprised at the diversity of songs that I got here. Collectively, you all must have covered almost as many genres as there are players.
-
Awesome. Really curious as to see what was sent and how my song was received.
-
Well my song is a mixture of several genres so...
-
Mine is just amazingly catchy.
-
That's a lot of writing..
SoundscapeMN - Distrails – Virgin Creeper 7 points
Lovely. Really lovely. I loved the song from the beautiful little reverse piano that comes in near the beginning. The vocals are absolutely lovely on top of that, and god, the strings! Lovely! The song does not overstay it’s welcome at all, and ends perfectly. The percussion is also a very nice touch. Overall, this was just fucking beautiful, that’s about all I can say.
Sonatafanica - Yazuka Heart Attack - Bionic Boiz 6 points
This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for from you. Mostly, it was just really fun , energetic, and funny. The song itself was actually a very well written piece of music, and it had its fair share of surprises thrown in. The drums are also a very nice addition, they add a lot of energy and drive to the song. It’s kind of funny to here the different synth sounds interact, but in an awesome funny kind of way.
Gorrile - Dir en Grey - Vinushka 6 points
Jordan streamed me an album of this band a few days ago and I loved what I heard. This only reaffirmed my faith that I really must get more into them. Unlike a lot of modern metal, I feel that they actually understand what metal is for, as they’ve got a lot of emotional anger and frustration in their songs. The vocals are probably the standout part for me right now… the guy is fantastic, especially in the field of communicating emotions. I’m going to pick up an album of theirs sometime soon.
Voxyn - Tiger Lou – Functions 5 points
This was a really fun song. I have a thing for catchy, simple songs that are well done, and this was that. The vocals and instrumentation and melodies are typical, but it allows the focus of the song to be direct. The bottom line is that I really enjoyed the song!
SneakyBlueberry - Big Runga with the Christchurch Symphony – Precious Things 5 points
Definitely one of the biggest surprises of the round. Nonetheless, a lovely surprise. The singer-songwriter love song is often butchered, but not here. The backing instrumentation was sparse and reserved, which really left the focus on the vocals, which were lovely! Plus, it was a fair risk, and I appreciate that.
Jsem - Kaizers Orchestra - Knekker Deg 4 points
Here’s another really surprising submission. I like surprises. Anyway, this song is sort of a balance between an irregular oddball and a catchy rock tune. They have a definitely oddness to them. The vocals are rough and unconventional, and the music follows suit at times. Anyway, a really original and odd submission,
Kingshmengland - Slow Motion Reign 4 points
The delay-guitar intro was awesome. I was excited to see where the song was going to go. It went to fantastic places, too. The guy’s voice was great, and near the end the song really concluded very nicely. Overall a very awesome submission, really fun and enjoyable. Also, Indie credit for the obscure band.
Zlhkzkho - Red Queen – Cire 3 points
This worked very well as a sort of alt rock/prog rock fusion. The rhythms are nice and original, and the music sounds fresh for the most part. The vocalist sounds exactly like another whom I can’t put my finger on. Somewhere along the guitar break section the song sort of lost its momentum a slight bit, but it was quickly regained when the vocals came in. Overall solid submission! I wish I could give it more, actually.
MG – Deerhunter – Earthquake – 3 points
As I’ve said with others, I’d really vote this higher if I could. I liked the atmosphere the band had going. I’ve heard a bit of Deerhunter already, but not this song, and it was probably the best one I’ve heard from them yet. They’re still the second best “deerhunter/etc.” named band I know, but this was a very nice song. So many nice songs! Shit!
Lielow - Birds Flying Into Buildings - Birds and Buildings - 2 points
I feel bad ranking this one lower, because I realize how hard it must have been to write and perform it. This song is all over the place as far as timing, melody, and soloing is concerned. My gripe is that nine minutes of proggy solos and progness was more than a bit much. I understand that to call it “unfocused” would be missing the point of the song, but I can’t imagine myself listening to something this long and bombastic often, it gets a bit tiresome. But remember that the rounds are up to seven, so it will be very easy to get back ahead!
Dethklok – Nevermore – The Heart Collector - 1 points
Well, to be honest, I’ve tried them before and it’s just not really my cup of tea. This is not bad for a typical metal ballad, but not really anything special either, I find. It’s a little too cliché. The vocalist is talented, but I feel he’s trying a little too hard. Still, I know you have a really diverse taste and music and I think you’ll get the hang of my taste soon.
As I said earlier, the diversity presented here was amazing! I'm hoping for more of that as it goes along!
Round two:
Energetic/lively/raw
Take this however you want it to mean. The only request is that I’d like it to have a lively and energetic feel to it in a raw sort of way. Any genre is acceptable.
-
Yay, 5 points. Will have to think about this next round but I have a couple of ideas.
-
Yeah, it's actually a lot more of an overture than a normal song. :P
-
Glad you liked the song. I had the hardest time finding it online. I played that cd for a year straight when I got it. I'm gonna think about the next song while driving tomorrow and then I'll send a song.
-
YOU FORGOT MY NAME!
-
I forgot nothing.
-
yay! :tup I feel the same way... they really are mature for a metal band.
-
Well hopefully you will like my other songs more. I understand what you mean by when you say clique, so no big deal.
-
I'm gonna have to think hard about this one...
-
Sent, but I am really taking a risk on this one, but he asked for something fast and driving. And that means MMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
(https://www.earyago.com/sites/dmeyer/_files/Image/DIO.JPG)
-
I never said "fast" or "driving" :P
Really, it could be folk, electronic, polka, or, yes, metal. I just want it to have a certain energetic vibe to it.
-
I never said "fast" or "driving" :P
I was just about to post that! :lol
Also, sent! :tup
-
I never said "fast" or "driving" :P
Really, it could be folk, electronic, polka, or, yes, metal. I just want it to have a certain energetic vibe to it.
Well I was paraphrasing into what I thought you meant. sorry.
-
oh yeah, you forgot my name too. I sent you the Bic Runga track.
-
Yeah, I just forgot to add a few in since I pasted all the titles on a word document. Edited, and sorry about that!
-
You also forgot either the song name or band name for kingshmegland's entry.
God that writeup was such a failure. :neverusethis:
By the way, just a bit of advice but I highly recommend giving every song at least two listens, if not more, to really soak them in.
-
Sent mine. Not super-duper energetic, but I have a feeling you'll like it. :)
-
Dang, thought you'd like Earthquake more. I won't actually recommend the album or the band, as that's the only song of theirs I like. :lol
Hmm, thinking of what to send for this round now.
-
Sent!!
-
Sent, and worried because my song isn't, strictly speaking, 'good.' :lol
-
Sent.
-
I thought I had it figured out but then I realised who I was up against and I need to step it up a bit, back to searching.
-
I suspected you'd like Distrails, although admittedly, I was torn between a handful of songs from their Virginia Creeper EP. Knowing your taste Seth, you'd probably have liked pretty much any tune off it.
-
pretty risky choice, you'll probably hate it :lol
-
Waiting on 2 more.
-
This was a tough one. I didn't wanna send metal either... so I didn't
-
Who's left so I can blind sed person with naked photos of myself. Captain Morgans pose.
-
So I'm keeping up with results by the day I get all the submissions. Hopefully I'll be able to keep that up, though it is a lot of writing. I'm glad I brought more in, though. The variety I got in this round was fantastic!
SoundscapeMN - Apes and Androids - Johny and Sarah - 7 points
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Johnny+and+Sarah/PJDCc?src=5
THIS is what I was looking for. Energetic, loud, raw, and lively. The vocals were raw and aggressive, and the harmonies were great. The song had a really fun drive to it. The production was perfect for this kind of song, and it had plenty of changes to keep it interesting. I usually don't like sheddy guitar solos unless they're done right, but this one was, and it ended up adding to the aggressive and rocking nature of the song quite well.
KingShmengland - People In Planes - Barracuda - 6 points
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Barracuda/3AkeNE?src=5
Through most of it, I was thinking, "this is a really cool song!" The heavy grooves were awesome. The overall groove was very nice, too. Then, near the end, the song got a whole lot better, even. The intensity increased until it was a clash of guitars and synths and drums, which was lovely. That part alone was reason enough for the high score for this song!
Sonatafanica - Anamanaguchi - Airbrushed - 6 points
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Airbrushed/31roUR?src=5
This is one of the submissions that really had what I was looking for. The combination of rock instruments and chiptune really worked well, and it was very energetic and lively. I could see myself listening to this whenever I need to be in an energetic, happier mood.
Gorille - Stolen Babies- Splatter - 5 points
https://www.myspace.com/stolenbabies
Nice! I was wondering when the song began at slow midtempo rhythm, but the sudden, random punctuations of guitar and drums quickly erased all doubt that this would be an awesome song. The song was full of creepy and eery energy throughout, and the vocals were very cool and different. One melody in particular was very strong, the one near the end. Awesome!
Marvellous G - Harald Waiglein - The Human Pump - 5 points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w14vV7bnWa0
I really appreciate the risk you took here, and I ended up liking the song quite a lot! The rawness of the voice and the general unpolished nature of the singer was perfect. My only complaint was that the chorus melody didn't quite grab me in the same way that the verses did, but the vocals in the end were pretty awesome and made up for it. Great submission!
Lielow - Harmonium - Dixie - 4 points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL1ICG2_UBk
Though the song started off slow, it quickly picked up and found it's way into a fun and folkish groove. The song was mostly just that, fun. I enjoyed how well all of the instruments played together. This was an awesome interpretation of the theme, and I'm already trying to learn to play the piano parts, because they are awesome! It didn't quite embody the energetic and raw feel that I was looking for, but it was still very fun!
TheVoxyn - Nation - Nemesis - 4 points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAMu8EIOVIw
As I said, I would take any genre for this round, and I liked your choice of electronic music very much! And this song was quite the adrenaline rush! The driving rhythms and synth made for a nice backing to the vocals, which were not incredibly talented but fit well. The main motif is very catchy.
Sneakyblueberry - SiKTh - Flogging The Horses - 3 points
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Flogging+The+Horses/2M8BDU?src=5
I liked it. The energy was definitely there in an angry sense. This kind of song isn't usually my kind of thing, and the vocals were a bit overdone, but they fit with the kind of music. I usually find this kind of music obnoxious, and to be honest I still did, a bit, but this was much better in terms of this kind of thing.
Jsem - Rainbow - Starstruck - 3 points
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Starstruck/2C39vK?src=5
Kind of a standard submission, but I enjoyed it. The classic hard rock style fit alright in terms of the round theme, and the guy could sing, of course. The song is definitely nothing particularly exciting or different in it's field, but it is pretty fun all of the same.
Finntroll - Fiskarens fiende - 2 points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CBmlXewMTY
This was cheesy as hell but I still enjoyed it to an extent. The Finnish folk melodies coupled with the heavy elements were interesting enough, and the little marching, martial break was pretty cool too. The song didn't really go anywhere exciting, though. And the cheese.
Letters - Meshuggah - Combustion - 1 point
https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Combustion/2C5AQw?src=5
To be fair to the song, I must say that in the style that it is going for it is well done. There's no denying that. I'm just not really one for the slick-production technical metal kind of thing that this is. It's just really not my type of thing, even thought I can see exactly how others would love it and it is well done.

What's the theme for next round?
-
Getting a little lucky right now. I'm glad you liked the song. Just a hard pumping grove laced tune. I'm excited to hear what the next round has in store.
-
I didn't do the theme last night because I was overwhelmed and would have thought of something stupid.
Well, actually, it's morning now and I still thought of something stupid.
The theme is sad.

I'm afraid it's too late to join mine.. you can only do so before it starts. Look for people in the roulette tracker thread who still need players, and they will get you on.
-
Sent a song that absolutely destroyed me when I first heard it, but mainly because of the context.
-
Sent. You'll love it.
-
Sent the saddest thing in world history.
-
Sent......twice since I forgot the link the first time.
-
In retrospect, I'm sort of regretting my choice. Oh well, it's still an awesome song.
-
Sent. It's a pretty common song which you may have heard before, so just message me back if you've heard and I'll find another. :P
Also, since you liked the song I suggest you listen to all of the "Si On Avait Besoin D'Une Cinquieme Saison" album by Harmonium. Dixie is actually the weakest song off that album IMO, and that album I think is definitely your type. :)
-
Hope you like this one.
-
Friendly reminder to check my last fm for the artist before you send it.
Generally I'd like no artist with more than 10 plays to be sent, but I'll make an exception for this round as not to slow things down..
-
Stop listening to so many artists then
:neverusethis:

Well it can't be mine. :lol I've never heard anybody except ariich talk about sed artist.

Fuck this whole roulette thing. I want to give you all sevens for this round. Seriously, the quality of submissions I received here was absolutely superlative.
I'm enjoying every second of all of your songs, and hating the shit out of trying to score them against each other.
Jsem - Gorecki Symphony No. 3 "Sorrowful Songs" - Lento e Largo – 7 points
I have to applaud you for two things… A. taking a risk and sending something different and B. Sending such a lovely song. Seeing the strings performed live and hearing them put off such a deep and ambient sound was amazing. I also say that the woman singing this has a lovely voice, which added another depth to the song. The setting was perfect, the atmosphere was perfect, and the 9 minutes went by very quickly!
Gorille - Music for Money - La Marche – 6 points
Wow. This was such an awesome submission. The song fits perfectly into the theme of sadness, but with a definite eeriness and creepiness included. The piano melodies are awesome and the general electronic/glitch stuff added to the song perfectly. Then, man, the second part! It was amazing, that’s about all I can say.
Letters – Hurt – Abuse of SID – 6 points
This song was probably the angriest submission I received. Anyway, I really loved it! For a fairly standard Alt-rockish song it was very well crafted, and there were subtleties to be enjoyed. Particularly the high background vocals mixed into the middle were perfect and suited the song quite well. The singer does a great job of getting the emotion across, and altogether this was really well done.
Sonata - Bjork – Harm of Will – 5 points
Lovely. This song is really heavenly. The instrumentation and choirs were lovely. Her voice is lovely as always. Particularly, the celesta, I think it is, adds a beautiful touch with its music box-like melodies. I think my favorite part is where she sings “atop of the family tree” and the choir follows. The only gripe I could possibly have is the little delay breath thing that is going in through the first minute as it kind of distracts and sounds out of place. Not a big deal, and this is still one of the most lovely submissions I received this round.
Sneakyblueberry - Sawdust & Diamonds - Joanna Newsom – 5 points
I must say that I’m already a fan of Joanna’s work. However, fortunately you sent a song from Ys, so I’ve only heard the album once through and don’t know the song specifically. Anyway, I can now recognize it as one of her best. It features her classic, dreaming, magically flowing, harp-ish melodies combined with her rough and emotive voice.
King – Joe Jackson – Be my Number Two – 4 points
I have to commend you for making me really like something I’m not accustomed to liking. An oldie ballad, this song was one of the very best of the style I’ve ever heard. I like the lyrics, which are more often than not the weakness of the vintage love song, and the voice/melodies are great!
MG – Starsailor - Way to Fall – 4 points
This guy has a fantastic voice. The song is very strong itself, though it sees vast improvement going into the more intense and emotional section. So yeah, this song was a perfect submission for the theme and was very, very good.
Soundscape - Linda Ronstadt - Goodbye My Friend –This was a very nice ballad. The song is actually emulating about as much happiness as sadness, but her voice is lovely nonetheless. The arrangement and lyrics were all a bit typical, but it was a very pleasant listen. – 3 points
Voxyn - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I See A Darkness – Very nice. It was very slow paced and mellow. The voice reminded me of Jeff Buckley, which anyone would know is a wonderful thing to me, and the song held up quite nicely along side it! – 3 points
Dethklok - In This Moment - A Star Crossed Wasteland – 2 points
This was good. The vocalist was obviously talented. Unfortunately the song fell victim to the metal ballad cliché more than once, but it was still a very good song with strong and memorable melodies, and the girl singing was very talented.
Robert Wyatt - Sea Song - 1 point
Sorry, I wasn’t really feeling this one quite as much. It doesn’t really seem to have much to do with sadness at all. Not to say I disliked it, the guy has a good voice, but the whole strange synth thing definitely isn’t my type. The mellotron was cool, though.
Next round and scores will be coming soon, I just needed to get this out because you guys are already hassling me just one day after I actually got them all in!
-
Yeah I didn't think I'd do too well with that one. :P That whole album is a HUGE acquired taste.
-
I'M QUITTING.

Ys is Joanna's best album, hands down. It was between this and Only Skin, which has the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard at the 6th minute. I couldn't find her name on your Last FM.

Damn Ryan, you really need to step it up, you stupid loser.

I'm glad you liked it! Such great melody and I love Joe Jackson's lyrics. You can feel him fawning for this girl it's so achingly beautiful. I'm driving a lot today so I'll be working on my quirky song to pick!
-
I knew you would like it. :)
-
Damnit Seth, you know don't listen to much quirky music...
-
"quirky" is specific. "Different" or "Unexpected" (or let's say odd and unpredictable) makes this round a lot more open. I am coming up with a few songs/artists who I would definitely describe as "quirky" some you probably already know. But if the option of it not being "quirky" but just odd or unexpected, that opens it up a bit.
-

Round 4.
The Voxyn – Efterklang – Modern Drift – 192
I loved the hell out of this song. It was atypical enough without sacrificing any of the song’s awesomeness. The strings were my favorite. The one part where they faded out to the little electronic glitch was amazing. Definitely my favorite submission this round.

Gorille – Mr. Bungle - Violenza domestica
Shame on me for having never listening to Disco Volante before! Typically awesome Mr. Bungle here. The song was moody, quirky, and unexpected all the way through! Awesome.
6 points
Sonatafanica – Mother Mother – Dirty Town
Something about this song was really funny, but I really enjoyed it too. The song was very well done, and the transitions between the intense, light, and just weird parts was perfect. The vocals were also awesome.

Jsem - Diablo Swing Orchestra - Ballrog Boogie
Really cool. The whole boogie metal thing is really fun and different. The song has an awesome groove, and there are some really interesting, unexpected, and weird parts to top it off.

I know Magma. Anyway, they are plenty different. Some of their music leaves me cold sometimes, but this song was pretty fun and original. It was a bit long, but still managed to mostly stay interesting.
5 points
SneakyBlueberry – Mates of State – Open Book
Interesting! I’ve not heard much music like this but it is very nice! The male singer wasn’t quite up to par with the female singer, but it wasn’t too big of an issue. The song had a nice air to it, and I liked it.
4 points
Kingshmengland - The Avett Brothers - Kick Drum Heart
Had this been a round for the best stage presence, I would definitely give it every point ever, because the Asian cellist is fucking awesome. Even here, this is a really cool song, it wasn’t too different but it was really fun.

Dethklok -
Mazowsze- Cyt cyt
Thought the song wasn’t particularly different, I must say that you fulfilled the expectations of the round requirements considering that you’re probably the last person in the world who I’d expect to send this. Anyway, it was a pleasant song and I enjoyed it.
3 points
Letters – Haken – Celestial Elixir
A lot of this song was very well written. It really was. I wasn’t a big fan of the slick production but I got over it. My only issue was the long, proggy instrumental sections… they didn’t really do much for me and they took up most of the song. Still, it was very good in parts.
3 points
SoundscapeMN - Self - Trunk Fulla Amps
It was a nice, different song. It was, to be honest, a bit over the top and annoying and repetitive at some parts, but overall quite enjoyable.
2 points
MG - Tally Hall- Good Day
It was not a bad song. I like the way the vocals sometimes harmonize and sometimes do their own thing. But, to be honest, some of the parts were a slight bit irritating. Not to say I didn't like it, though.

Anyway: the next round is this. Warm. Send a song that is warm and beautiful and all. I hope you all know what I mean when i say this.

Does warm imply happy in any way in your opinion?

Also great that you enjoyed Efterklang so much. Been listening to them quite a bit lately, fantastic stuff.

There were too many choices for this round, and I feel that I went for the wrong one.

dtmajesty, I would suggest checking out more sElf even if you didn't find Trunk Fulla Amps that amazing. Matt Mahaffey in a lot of ways is a genius, and one of the most talented musicians/songwriters of the past 2 decades.
just check out the little bit on him here 1:40-4:18

TheVoxyn - Haruka Nakamura - Every Day
This was ridiculously beautiful. I loved the subtle incorporation of different styles, and the girl singing had a beautiful voice, no doubt.
6 points
Gorille - Islands - The Arm
Fucking yes! This song was brilliant! It maintained interest all the way through and blended in the warm sound with tones of darkness and anger and some parts that were just plain fun. This was amazing.
6 points
SBB – Brooke Fraser – Arithmetic
Lovely. The kind of singer-songwriter pop that is really enjoyable and beautiful. It was typical, but it had that beautiful kind of air to it.
5 points
Dethklok – Boxer Rebellion – Sovients
Woah, this was really good. The warm atmosphere was incorporated brilliantly. The song had a fantastic build up and nice vocals too. I really liked it.
Sonatafanica – The Prize Fighter Inferno - 5 points
Seriously, I like Claudio Sanchez and all, but this guy is trying WAY too hard to sound like him. Besides that it was a beautiful song. Nice and mellow.
Letters – Buckethead – Dawn Appears - 4 points
Despite my preconceptions about him, this was a beautiful little song. I’m actually really glad that he didn’t go all out shred where it didn’t fit at all, because that seems to be the fault of almost every guitar virtuoso. Buckethead showed restraint.
MG - Nizlopi - Girls - 4 points
Very nice. The singer has a wonderful pop voice, and the strings are a great addition.
Soundscape - Annuals – Springtime - 3 points
Nice song. Very pleasant, and the vocals were good too.
King – Incubus – Dig - 3 points
Very nice, too. It had a very pop-rock vibe, but I don’t care. It was great all the same, and the chorus was cool.
Jsem – Johann Sebastian Bach - Cantata No. 147, 'Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben,' BWV 147: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
I already knew this song, but yes, it is a fair classical composition. - 2 points
Lielow - Caravan – Winter Wine - 1 point
Well, this song could have been a whole lot shorter. It didn’t really use the 7 minutes to really go anywhere, and the length of the solo section kind of put me off. Shame, too, because this was a fairy nice piece of music to begin with.
Next round - dark.

Well I guess this is a dead game.
Not necessarily. Need to see if the ban is reduced to temp to make that call. Just be patient.
Yeah I don't think it'll be permanent. Probably be along the same lines as Dimi and Icy's ban where they were back a couple of months later. If that.
-
Whelp, since Seth got his silly ass banned, he has released a message to you, the players in the roulette, fine denizens of /dtf/.
"Hey, guys. I'm sorry about all of this shit, I acted immaturely on DTF and got banned for it. Please don't hold up the roulettes for mine if I'm not coming back, but I'm still hoping to be able to get a lot more awesome music from all of you!
Cheers, Seth"

Sorry about this.

This round was full of fantastic submissions all around. Any of the lower pointers could have been 7 in another. Great job from everyone.
7 points - SneakyBlueberry - Florence and The Machine - My Boy Builds Coffins
Amazing. I’ve been meaning to listen to Florence and the Machine, and this was just brilliant. The instrumental section was amazing, and the vocal delivery was likewise. This one was perfect.
6 points - MG -We Share Our Mother's Health - The Knife
I had to watch it twice to really comprehend what I was watching. Nonetheless, it was quite amazing. The simple toned video really helped. It sounded electronic, and at the same time it was kind of world-music sounding. It was awesome.
6 points - Letters – Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies)
This was fantastic. I need to listen to more Deftones, obviously. This was a perfect submission for this round. The dichotomy between the slow, brooding parts and the heavy, loud parts was very powerful. The vocals were fantastic, and the song had a constant dark imagery that hung around long after the song was over. Great submission.
5 points - Gorille - Tactile Gemma -Creepy-Crawlies
This was very creepy indeed. Disturbingly so. It was also beautiful in some parts. I’m not quite sure to make of it, but it was brilliant. Fantastic submission for this round.
5 points - Thevoxyn – Bon Iver – Skinny Lover
This song wasn’t exactly dark at first glance, but I understand where it came from. As in, while you wouldn’t call it musically dark, it gave off a kind of dark, lonely, pleading vibe. And it was very good. The vocals were nice and the melodies were nice. Perfect simple singer-songwriter kind of song.
4 points - Sonatafanica - Kaki King – Night after Sidewalk
Kind of a similar interpretation as the one Thevoxyn had. Definitely gives off lonely vibes. I took a late night walk to this song just because I thought it would be nicer that way, and it was amazing. So there’s that. I’ve seen her on video a few times before and she has great skill, but from this she can obviously write well too. That’s good.
4 points - Lielow - Dem Guten, Schönen, Wahren Amon Duul Ii
One of the stranger submissions I received. The vocals were sometimes outright ridiculous… they were very strange, but they worked. The song had a nice, creepy dark atmosphere. Overall it was very good.
3 points - Jsem - Cult of Luna – Owlwood -
I’ve heard quite a few Cult of Luna songs and I’ve liked them. Owlwood was good. It’s crushingly heavy without relying on the typical metal chugging riffs too often. It’s evilly dark. It was good.
3 points - King - Black Mountain - Tyrants
It feels really shitty to not be giving this song a higher ranking. This round had fantastic submissions all around, and this was one of them. Some of the slower parts were amazing. There were times when the song dragged a bit, but they were generally inconsequential to the song’s overall feel.
2 points - Soundscape - Sculptured – Embodiment is the Purest Form of Horror.
This song was all over the place. It was a very nice dark metal song. Some of the parts began to drag, but that was not a big deal, I still really enjoyed it. As I said earlier, the competition was very heavy for this round. This was a good song.
1 point - Dethklok09 - Jacob Kirkegaard - Church
So the making process of this song is very intriguing. This guy went through great lengths to record this, and from a purely technical standpoint it is a very well done piece of “music.” But I don’t think I could maintain my interest in listening to the same 4 tones drawn out over the course of 12 minutes. It’s not really my thing. Props for such an interesting submission, all the same.
Give me some time to think of the next one, I'm now exhausted.

Yeah. After I heard that I contemplated on a 22:45 song on the same album as the one I sent, but I decided to go with the other. :lol
-
It's close to that amount what I'm thinking.
-
My song's pretty long, but it's never a chore to sit through for me. Admittedly, that's because I love it, but even with other long songs I love, such as Octavarium or Anesthetize, they do feel a tiny bit like an effort to sit through. This one most certainly doesn't, and I hope Seth feels at least a little the same way. If not, I'm screwed. :lol

Check your pm, I've got a question for you Seth.

Nice! I think I start mine when yours is done (because SDN and LLTWM will be replaced with letters and kari), and that means I will be in place of you, so just wanna get an idea. Sounds like it'll happen after my finals, which is ideal.

This was probably the best round in the history of rounds. Every song was wonderful. Fuck the score, who cares about it. You were all awesome.
7 points - MG - David Mathews Band - Seek Up
w…w…woah. I didn’t expect this. This was an amazing performance. I would have never believed that it could stay interesting for 20 minutes, but it pretty much did. The violin solo was amazing, and the song itself was wonderful. I’m amazed, I’ll have to actually look into the David Mathews Band now. The one climax buildup at about the 12 minute mark was the best part. Lots of emotion.
6 points - Soundscape - Anathallo - The River
This song had a wonderful feel to it. It was very, very nice to listen to. My favorite part was when the female vocals in. And then the cello part….wow! Lovely song.
6 points - Voxyn - Iron and Wine - Flightless Bird, American Mouth
Lovely folk song. I love how the music sort of slowly wraps you up. It was very atmospheric and full sounding for a folk tune, and the vocal harmonies were freaking beautiful. Thank you for this, it sort of made my day.
5 points - The Giant Indie - Joy Division - The Eternal
It took me 2 listens to really get this one. Once I did… woah. This is ridiculously depressing stuff. It’s a very different experience of music than I’m used to… it’s odd, it doesn’t really go anywhere. It sort of looms in that horribly depressing state. In other words, it’s brilliant.
5 points - Sonata - The Depreciation Guild → Digital Solace
Awesome. It sounds kind of like Sweet Trip picked up a game boy. It’s got that same shoegaze-electronic hybrid feel to it, but with the 8-bit sounds added to it. When the guitars kick in it takes on a fantastic, dreamy sound. Great song.
4 points - Lielow - Big Big Train - Victorian Brickwork
Despite my initial reaction to the length of the song, this was very well put together. The instrumentals didn’t get overly wanky, and the ending had a lot of atmosphere to it, something that many of these bands miss out on. It put on the whole Victorian England kind of vibe, which was awesome. The vocals were cool, very Gabriel-esque. One of the best prog songs I’ve heard recently.
4 points - Letters - Portishead – Mysterons
I regret not hearing them earlier. This is very interesting trip-hop. The actually electronic elements are very minimal, as most of them are comprised of a sequenced snare that actually feels half real. Anyway, the song is very haunting and awesome.
3 points - King -This Day and Age - Always Straight Ahead
This was another very cool song. It was a very pop-oriented song, but in a very nice way nonetheless. The vocals were great, and some of the few subtleties went a long way. This should have a much higher ranking, but this round was just too kickass.
3 points - Sneakyblueberry – B-52s – Topaz
I don’t know what I thought of this at first listen. It sounded like some New Wave 80s music. But then, on second listen… well, it’s still New Wave 80s music but it’s pretty cool. The harmonies and vocals are the best part.
2 points - Jsem -John Coltrane → My Favorite Things
I played piano on this song for my school jazz band last year. It is a nice song. I love the sort of early morning city vibes it gives. At least that’s what I got from it. While some jazz leaves me a bit too cold, this is perfect. Lots of feeling and shit like that. It’s a bit long, though. It seems to run a bit dry after being stretched out over 10 minutes long. It was great though. This is not a 2 points song, but as I said early, this is the best round in the history of rounds. I enjoyed it.
1 pt. - Gorille - The Used - Let It Bleed
Yeah, this wasn’t really my kind of song. It wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t do much for me. I think it was the vocals. They sounded very metalcore. This could have been higher on another round, it was still quite enjoyable.
So I'd run out of ideas for my last round, and someone suggested this so here we go. The next round is:
Open, with one requirement. There must be vocals. Good ones, too. It's an open/great vocalist round.
Sonatafanica - 37
TheVoxyn - 37
Gorille - 34
Soundscape - 30
MG - 30
SneakyBlueberry - 29
Kingshmengland - 27

Once again, you all did brilliantly. You're all winners in my book.

Are new players allowed to join after a new round begins? Or only after a number of rounds have gone by? Because if the former is the case, I'd like to try my hand at this.
Unfortunately, no. The players are predetermined in the Roulette Tracker sticky thread. You can ask someone on the waiting list to let you in, though.
-
The giant indie. :lol I will work on picking a song today.
-
Way to blow out my lead...
-
I know just the song. :)

Woot, glad you liked the DMB song! That is my favourite performance by any band ever, so other stuff might not quite live up to it, but you should still check out Before These Crowded Streets at some point.
Now I need to think of something for this round that you won't have recommended to me originally. :lol
-
Glad you liked it :hat
Is the new round starting now? I'll have to find something good.
-
You've got to be kidding me.
Ah well, to each his own. And +1 to MG for sending DMB. Also gratz to sonata winning this, I was kinda expecting it though - you two have fairly similar tastes.

Also, sent.
-
You've got to be kidding me.
As I wrote, I still loved it. This round was impossible to judge, and also who cares about the score anyway. This wasn't meant to be a competitive kind of roulette.

Ah well, to each his own. And +1 to MG for sending DMB. Also gratz to sonata winning this, I was kinda expecting it though - you two have fairly similar tastes.
Nobody's won anything yet, there's one more round.
And plus, I'm tied with Sander.

Good pick on the DMB song MG. :tup I actually got to see Seek Up live, which was awesome!

Sometimes, even though we know what other members look like, we all link each other with our avatars. You don't know how many times people say they read my responses as Bender, you meat bag.

Does that mean I'm a cute Icelandic genius in your minds

He's sent now. Hopefully I can get this all wrapped up soon. I've got to go right now, but tonight...possibly.

Cool, though there's no desperate rush to be honest, there are three others going on so nobody else can start one until one of them finishes.

Alright, alright. JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME, EH?
I gave out three 5 pointers because I honestly had too. Thanks for your patience.
Thevoxyn - Petter Carlsen - Spirits in Need I’ve been waiting for you to send him based on your praising words for the guy, and; yes. YES. What a wonderful song; very strong in the melodic department and the vocals were amazing. All-around flawless music, I guess. You win. - 7 points
Soundscape - Janelle Monáe - "BaBopByeYa"
Woah. Woah. Mind blown. I don’t even quite know what to make of this, it’s like some sort of theatrical pop song from the future. The voice was lovely and it had all the elements of an amazing song. It was quite diverse, as well, and maintained interest. Woah.
- 6 points
Gorille - O+S - New Life
Beautiful calm electronic song. Beautiful. The female vocals are lovely and the electronics find a perfect balance between being subtle and still interesting. I loved it. - 6 points
Sonatafanica - Casey James and the Staypuft Kid - The Linen Boos
Another one of the more interesting submissions this round. I've not heard too much music like this. The spooky little vocal sounds were really what made the song. The singer was certainly unconventional, but it worked well. - 5 points
Ravenheart - Blasphemous Rumors Depeche Mode
Super-cool, depressing electronic song. The vocals are the best part, I couldn’t imagine this song without that awesome, deep voice. It was pretty catchy, too. Great song. - 5 points
King - Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Very pleasant song. Fantastic voice, and the dreamy melody was really cool. There was also a guitar solo that actually managed to be interesting; nice! She’s also not too hard on the eyes. - 5 points
Lielow - Gentle Giant - On Reflection
Awesome harmonization going on here, I love the vocals in general. The song itself was actually quite interesting and well done too, with the sort of magical medieval flair. Very nice song. - 4 points
MG – A Perfect Circle - When the levee breaks
One of the coolest covers I’ve heard. The vocals were particularly nice. I loved the subtle additions that the piano made. Fantastic rendition! - 4 points
Jsem - Supertramp – School
Yeah, I know this song, my parents really like it. It’s a good song, too. Fun, groovy , and spacey. Makes one feel good. -3 points
Sneakyblueberry - This City Sunrise - Weird Concrete Building
This was another out-there song. At times it was fantastic, though occasionally it got to be a bit too much. It was still enjoyable mostly, there were just a few parts that didn’t click. - 2 points
Zxlkho - Death - Crystal Mountain
It was alright. However, the shouting growls over some less-than-interesting riffs dragged it down, and the song really didn’t have anything special going for it. The instrumentals were too repetitive and the vocals were pretty laughable at parts. - 1 point
And so the roulette comes to a close. Really, congratulations to Thevoxyn for winning, but don't take the score seriously at all. To be honest, I loved the part of hearing the music but I DESPISED having to rank your songs. You all had your own awesome angle on it, and I kind of wish I had just done an open recommendation thing so I wouldn't have to go through the pains of judging them against each other. So don't worry about the score, because I enjoyed it and I love you. I might update this every now and then when I start revisiting some of the stuff that I want to hear again!
Thank you all
This is Clairvoyantcat, signing off
-
The Depeche Mode and Supertramp songs are great :tup
-
Death got 1 point. Wut?
-
And somewhere else, a pig has just discovered that it can fly.
-
Told you I would win. Finally won one of these things :D.
Anyway, thanks for the speedy updates - apart from the lost one which took so long that I wanted to kill myself.
-
Yeah. 27 days is a bit much, but it was good other than that. :lol  Anyways, glad you liked On Reflection. The harmonies are amazing.
-
Had a great time doing this.
Also both solo's are awesome on that song and the off time drum beat gives the song a good punch.
-
suck my dick
-
Great choices with Sarah McLachlan and Petter Carlsen! :)
