Let's get the bleeps and bloops going!
Just so you guys know, the first 8-bit release of 2011 will be Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar by Disasterpeace, a long-awaited album with an awesome album cover! I plan on getting it the second it appears for order.
Oh, and if you're among the first 100 to grab it, you'll get a code for this album: https://disasterpeace.bandcamp.com/album/the-chronicles-of-jammage-the-jam-mage
Seriously, listen to the track "At the Zombie Gates". omg.
Let the geeking-out commence!
-
That is truely a badass cover.
I still can't thank you enough for the two Alex Mauer albums I have.
-
At The Zombie Gates was fucking awesome.

Norrin Radd :metal
-
A new Norrin Radd album would be awesome, but I don't think we can expect one any time soon. But we always have the first two Norrin Radd albums :P
-
So anyone who listens to chippy stuff, who are some of your favorites?
-
I only know a little about the genre. Actually, what are your favorites, so I can start somewhere.

I don't really like Alex Mauer.
I don't really like the way you're living right now. The fact you are alive sickens me.
-
Digging Animal Style, listened to it twice.

I don't really like Alex Mauer.
What do you like in your chip music?
-
My first executive action of 2011 was purchasing the album in the OP the minute it was posted.
-
this isnt music.
its sex in audio form

How is it?
In other chip-related news, my first song of the new year was "Airbrushed." So happy.

I ordered the CD, but I'm listening to it on the Bandcamp (link (https://disasterpeace.bandcamp.com/)) and it's REALLY fucking good. Very progressive, lots of dynamics. Very very very creative. I'm glad this is the first album of 2011.
-
So I downloaded the LSDJ program for the Virtual Boy Advance. Its very, VERY difficult to figure out at first, but Nullsleep's tutorial has really helped out. So far I have a grand total of 1 ".3" bassline and messing around with effects.
-
Sweet.
I've made several songs with it, but nothing serious. I've just been working on getting comfortable with it.
Nullsleep is an awesome artist, by the way :)
-
I need to get an album from him. He showed up everywhere on 2Player's "Reformat the Planet" series.
-
He's on 8bitpeoples, you can find several of his albums there.

I have to admit I'm really starting to like a lot of this. :lol I checked out a bit of the album you posted in the op (Jam Mage) and I'll get around to listening to the whole thing tomorrow.
BUT FOR NOW, I'm going to listen to Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar and GO PLAY SOME POKEMON!
-
Alright, just finished Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar. Realllllly good album. I'm considering buying the cd.... we'll have to see. The New Formation kicked my ass. :metal

Give me more chiptune in the vein of Disasterpeace.
I'm feeling extra bleepity-bloop tonight.

I have not.
But I shall.

Anamanaguchi live show free to download.

Have you fully explored Norrin Radd?
Well, I checked some of it out. Its a cool concept but I don't think death metal works too well with NES music. Plus I'm not a big fan of death metal to begin with.

DEAD MOTHER GOOSE
ITS THE BEST
-
I'M NOT PERSONALLY LINKING HIM TO THE ALBUM YOU DICK I'M BUSY PROCRASTURBATING
-
:lol Loving the album cover.
Will listen shortly and report back with thoughts...
-
:metal Fucking awesome.
I love the whole nostalgic feel it has with the old tapes of him. How old was he?
-
No more than six, I believe.
-
Listening to Psilodump now. This is really cool. Haven't heard anything like this in Chiptune before, very dark, but bouncy and dancey, like the soundtrack to a sleazy space station strip club.
The best part about this genre is that most of it is free. Only Chiptune albums I've had to buy were In Her Gentle Jaws and the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack.
-
And In Her Gentle Jaws was originally free!
-
zomg!
-
I KNOW RITE
-
Disasterpeace just released another album from a few years back
https://disasterpeace.bandcamp.com/album/under-the-influence
(https://bandcamp.com/files/38/08/3808976312-1.jpg)
-
Downloading now. Shit is SO dollars and cents!
-
Downloading now. Would listen today, but My Morning Jacket demands my current attention and I'm going to bed after Z finishes.
On another Chip note, I listened to Antarctica and Dead Mother Goose by Alex Mauer and was reminded of what a failure I am at life even without a keyboard.
-
This thread inspired me to get a lot of Chiptune, I'll link what I have. (a bit uncertain at come if they count as chiptune or not)
*Alex Mauer - Eat People 1,2,3, Lo-Gear and Vegavox 2
*Anamanaguchi - Power Supply
*Metronomnomnom - Psilodump
*She (Discography)
*The Depreciation Guild - Nautilus, In Her Gentle Jaws
Sonata probably knows best about where to start, and what kind of stuff I have. :P
-
(a bit uncertain at come if they count as chiptune or not)
She is the only one on there that isn't really chiptune all that much, just because the guy uses all kinds of keyboard synthesizers and programming loops outside of chipset sounds.
But She isn't too bad in any case.
-
Under The Influence was absolutely amazing.
-
Went on 8Bit peoples and downloaded the following:
Nullsleep: Electric Heart Strike and the Game Boy Singles
Starscream: Future and It Doesn't Work
Disasterpeace: Under the Influence
She: Pioneer
Paza: Slaphappy Bee EP III
Mark DeNardo: Lion, Tiger, Bear
Bit Shifter: Information Chase
Animal Style: TRENCHVENT and Open Air
So far I've just heard the Game Boy Singles (lots of cool stuff, some parts of the songs didn't work out quite so well though) and Future and it Doesn't Work (INFUCKINGCREDIBLEZOMG). Listening to Under the Influence now and liking it, though confused about the presence of trumpets in chiptune.

Yeah, Under the Influence was really different. I think that's why I like it so much though.
-
Oh don't get me wrong it sounds very good, but its not quite chiptune, unowatimsaying?
-
Oh don't get me wrong it sounds very good, but its not quite chiptune, unowatimsaying?
Iknowwhatyouresayinbro. I was actually thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to say it wasn't chiptune because I figured sonata would come in and be like "IT IS CHIPTUNE BECAUSE OF A B AND C" and I'm not lookin for a fight man, I just wanna enjoy my bloots and my bleets.
-
Your bleets? This isn't sheep metal you nub.
So yeah, Under the Influence was pretty awesome. Mark DeNardo is pretty good as well. Sings in a sort of folky style, but the album description mentioned a "folky guitar" which I still haven't heard, so I'm a bit disappointed that its not really turning out to be the folktronica I expected, but its still good. Worth a listen.
EDIT: Finally, some guitar! This is what I'm talking about!
-
I only got around to listening to a couple of the things from Sonata's top 10 and most of that got wiped out when my hard drive died so I'm going through a bunch of the free Disasterpeace stuff now. Lots of really cool stuff! :tup
-
Yeah Matt, Starscream is pretty badass. I forgot about them when I was making my top 10 or they totes would have been in there.
-
Disasterpeace - Diamond Drama
:heart :heart :heart :heart

OH SHIT

I'm downloading now, will listen to tomorrow.
-
I am so in love with Anomaly right now.
Are they planning a new album soon?
-
I haven't heard anything on it. But have you checked out the debut album?
-
Not yet! I suppose it is free?

HOLY SHIT, NEW GIANT CLAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://www.iimusic.net/catalog/2011/03/giant-claw-midnight-murder
The first album was fucking amazing, I can't wait to listen to this one!!
-
So I totally have no idea what Chiptune is... but as I scrolled through thread titles I totally thought this said The Chipotle Thread and got a little excited hahaha.
-
stick around for the bleeps and bloops
they can be pretty spicy
-
This thread needs more chipotle.
-
I'm still new to the genre but I like most of what I've heard. My favorite chiptune artists right now are Anamanaguchi and YMCK.
-
I've heard some YMCK, but I don't have any of their stuff yet. Recommendations?
-
Family Music, or maybe Family Cooking. I think most people prefer Family Cooking, but to me they're equally good.
-
Disasterpeace allll the way baby
-
Not sure if anyone here knows She?
Listened to the album "Coloris" tonight, and it was really good.
Not your 'typical' chiptune, but it was really interesting, in a positive way.
-
She is alright (of course I know, it's fucking chiptune isn't it? GOD) more dance synth music than chiptune, but what can you do.
-
I think Sonata answered that question when you picked up a bunch of Chiptune and asked for opinions on it a page back, Zantera. :lol
In any case, She is alright.
In any other case, I've been playing the fudge out of Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar by Disasterpiece and In Her Gentle Jaws by the Depreciation Guild recently. And, since spring is here and summer is approaching, Anamanaguchi is going to get about about a bajillion plays.
-
In Her Gentle Jaws is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. :P
For some reason I thought She had a really kewl website, nice artworks at least, so I ended up downloading all of the stuff, not really sure if I'll ever listen to it all, but chiptune doesn't really take a lot of space. :P
-
New Alex Mauer for any who missed it

Well, it's not new I don't think, but it's good.

THE CHIPTUNE SCENE HAS BEEN FUCKING DEAD THIS YEAR WHAT GIVES
i mean the most recent release i that i listen to came out back in may i think: https://starscream.bandcamp.com/album/future-towards-the-edge-of-forever
someone needs to make some shit sometime soon
-
I can has also make teh chiptunes.
https://soundcloud.com/madcoil/madcoil-software
https://soundcloud.com/madcoil/madcoil-incredible-power
https://soundcloud.com/madcoil/madcoil-spacer
Although this kind of stuff isn't really a 'pure' chiptune as it's not made with actual SID chips. A lot of people confuse chip music with Amiga style .mod music, which used actual samples. I guess my stuff falls in the latter category, but they're 'close'.
