Alex Mauer-Dead Mother Goose and Mew-No More Stories... have been getting a lot of attention from me lately.

Finally Meshuggah has really clicked with me. I've been giving random albums of theirs a spin since a few years. But this album is just totally great:
And a favorite from almost a year ago. Started discovering this album around the moment I found out my (then) gf had cheated on me with a 'friend' of mine. I was really digging the album, and then when that happened, the songs got even better in a way. I can still recall the feelings I had back then when listening to it. These songs were totally powerful and helped me place my own feelings in a VERY short amount of time (especially New Day and All I Know). It was like the best heartbreak therapy I could ask for. This album has so much depth in everything from emotion, lyrics, melody, arrangement, sonics, you name it. It's absolutely brilliant, and I still love it very much:

And the most recent addition to my most valued albums I ever heard:
https://afterbeat.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/massive-attack-heligoland.png
It's not even that these albums are objectively that great, they just represent my feelings at a certain time. Or at the least the ones that I identify with the most at any given moment/feeling. I really don't care about chops or shredding anymore. Thank god.

Seriously, they do great stuff. Not a huge fan of RR, but the other albums are really solid. So far, Twilight Theater is the best though.
They also did really solid work on Alan Wake. :P

I hated RR until a few weeks ago when I gave it a few good listens. It's probably their worst album, but I still think it's fantastic.

Despite the fact that it's my least favorite album by them, for some reason Psychosis really gets me (in a good way). It's an odd song, but I can't help but sing it, and jam along.
Oh, and high five for great POTF justice

What album is that?
-
It's Amputechture by The Mars Volta
-
I had a feeling it was The Mars Volta. Thanks!

I haven't been listening to too much music lately. I listened to lots of rock music in the past week but I always blend into other things without noticing. I think I'll get more funk because it's been on my mind.
-
Three things now:
1) I Would Set Myself on Fire For You: experimental hardcore/screamo with some folkish influences, they have a female viola/cello player who also provides some vocals. Really cool stuff.
2) City of Caterpillar: More experimental hardcore/screamo type stuff. Rather melodic, pretty interesting songwriting. Still haven't really absorbed the music fully though.
3) The Angelic Process: Absolutely gorgeous drone metal/shoegaze duo, specifically the song 'Burning in the Undertow of God', which I've been obsessed with.

The new Duran Duran album is quite great.

Trentemoller - The Trentemoller Chronicles
I never really liked it, but in the state I am right now, it's the greatest thing ever. I just realised that I can enjoy pure electronic music just as much as music played by acoustic instruments. I love the clean feeling of the music, on a spectral level it's amazing. If anything, these 'digital' sounds show much more dynamic than any mainstream rock album of the last 3 years. Somehow the loudness war doesn't really damage the dance music world. 'Death Magnetic' sounded flat and distorted, this sounds round and breathing.
Opening me up for new types of music, that's possibly the only good thing 'pot' has ever done for my. I'm high right now, enjoying it while it lasts. But I'm done with it, the positives are outnumbered by the negatives. A goodbye to all you stoners out there, it was fun, but now it's time to move on.

Didn't know they had a new album out. Is it more back to their roots than their horrible Red Carpet Massacre?

I'm not even a Duran Duran fan but the new single is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Probably my favorite album of all-time, every song is technical, progressive but oh so catchy and fun.
