This band from Australia are really good, but have yet to release their 1st full-length album. It's almost entirely recorded, mixed, etc, but they have yet to decide on HOW to release it..i.e. the right record label, etc.
Well, their future may be in doubt.
Save Ne Obliviscaris! (An Open letter Re: Benjamin Baret's Australian Visa Rejection) (https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=460350616506&id=8216149897)
their guitarist isn't a native of Australia, and the Immigration people aren't at this time seeing his reasons for staying in Australia to be valid enough.
The more signatures on the petition, obviously the better.
In the mean time, I would suggest others around here to check out their incredible "Aurora Veil" ep/demo.

HFJASHGFJLSHFJSHF? SHSO DRUNK AND LISTN+ENING
-
New song is awesome.
-
Holy. Fuck.
edit: man even on youtube it sounds great. This album is going to be insane.
-
Listening now.
OK that was awesome.
-
Really liked the new song, very similar style to the demo but with vastly superior sound.
-
Sorry to bug you all, but I don't want to listen until the album comes out cause I prefer to listen not knowing anything from the album, but how was the production?
-
Did their guitarist get a visa grant in the end?
-
I think they're still working on it. That process takes a really long time.
-
Yeah, well it's really, really hard to move to Australia, which I think is a good thing.
-
Never saw this thread before or heard or these guys before 15 minutes ago, so I decided to listen to Forget Not via Youtube.
Jesus that was awesome.
-
Listen to the new song!
-
Holy shit these guys are good. It's like the beauty of Alcest mixed with violins and black metal.

FROM LEAD GUITARIST BENJAMIN BARET:
"Hello to everyone,
It has been a long hard road but we are finally there! After initially having my Distinguished Talent visa denied in 2010, and having gone through an epic appeal process in the past year, now, thanks to EVERYONE'S hard work, the decision has been overturned and I am coming back to Australia!
I would like to thank my bandmates for all their support and Tim in particular for being my visa representative in Australia while I have been in Europe the past 13 months. Thanks brothers. I also want to thank all the people who wrote letters of recommendation, signed the petition, shared links or anything that helped us. It means the world to me. Finally, thank you to the Australian Department of Immigration for allowing me to come back to live in Australia!
Now I can finally get back to the only thing I truly love: making good music with good people." – Benjamin Baret
FROM THE REST OF THE BAND:
“The last year has been incredibly difficult for this band. With Benjamin stuck in France for the past 13 months we haven’t felt like ourselves, as we’ve been missing a heart and soul member of what makes this band what it is. As a result there have definitely been times where many a dark thought has entered our heads about the future of Ne Obliviscaris. But with our victory at the Migration Review Tribunal and the subsequent approval of Benjamin’s visa, it’s like all our Christmas’ have come at once. Add to that the out of this world response to our new song released last Saturday, and finally things are starting to look positive in the world of Ne Obliviscaris!
From the moment Benjamin joined this band in 2008 we fell instantly in love with him as a person and as a musician, and so to have him on his way back to Australia is absolutely incredible.
A HUGE thank-you to everyone that in any way supported our battle to get Benjamin back to Australia. We couldn’t have done it without you! At the time we launched our appeal we heard a lot about how small our chances were of taking on the Australian Department of Immigration and winning, but we refused to accept defeat as Benjamin is just way too important to this band for us to go down without a fight. The endless support from our fans, who signed our petition in their thousands (from more than 60 countries across the world!) is a huge reason why we won this appeal and we will be forever grateful to every person that helped make this happen.
P.S. If you haven’t checked out our new song, ‘And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope”, you can do so now on our Facebook page, and we look forward to seeing you all on tour in 2012 on the back of the release of our long, long coming debut album ‘Portal Of I’! – NeO”
And as always IF YOU LIKE IT, SHARE IT!

-
That's AWESOME! Hopefully these guys can tour soon!
-
Yay! :D
-
Great news! :D

New song Xenoflux, and it's amazing. This has the potential to be metal album of the year. This song reminds me of Opeth in many ways, and the violin just accentuates the awesomeness.
-
...sorry I've missed this thread, but this group is :tup.
-
I've heard good things about the demo for years, and the band has been on my "need to check out"-list, but I've never gotten around to it. Seeing as there will be a full length out fairly soon, and it has some of the songs from the demo on it (from what I've heard), it seems like the perfect idea to check them out when it comes out. :hat
-
I need this CD. Like, NOW
-
Yeah I've preordered it, can't wait!!
-
Looking forward to it.
-
I can't stop listening to the new song. Bring on May 7th.
-
Listening to this for the first time, on my shitty laptop speakers. And it's still epic. I must remember this.
-
Is it 'knee' or 'nay'?
-
I just received the promo copy of this album (I love my job).
ALBUM OF THE FUCKING YEAR!!!!!!!
-
Pretty cool album. Hopefully it will grow on me even more after a few more spins.
-
Could be album of the year.
-
This could be one of the greatest albums ever made, forget about AOTY.
Fuck me, these lads are oozing with potential.
-
Hmm maybe I'll order this bitch up.
-
On first listen, it's well done, the band has loads of talent, but there are occasions when my attention wanders. Every song is just a little too long-a little tightening up wouldn't have hurt-but given that this is a debut, the sky's the limit for this band.
-
Really good stuff! I've listened to it about 4 times in full so far, and it's definitely one of the best albums of the year. This band has tons of potential.
-

Yeah I agree with you on that.
As far as the re-recordings go for the original 3 EP songs, they've improved in some areas, but there are moments where the violins and vocals seem quieter this time round. Don't know if that's just me.
-
Still loving this so much. What a fantastic debut.
-
Still waiting for mine to arrive...
-
Really great album. Only spinned it twice so far, but seeing as it's over 70 minutes long, it need more listens before I can properly judge it. But I'm liking it. :tup

Yeah, as I keep listening it just gets better. Lots of minuscule stuff to appreciate.
-
This album is absolutely amazing. These guys really hit it out of the park with this one, definitely a contender for album of the year so far. :hefdaddy
-
Seeing these blokes Friday, Sometimes i love being Aussie :metal
-
I'm not normally all that into bands that use black metal vocals (Agalloch being the only exception), but this certainly sounds interesting. With all the overwhelming praise around here, I definitely feel compelled to check this album out a bit more.
-
is Tapestry Of The Starless Abstract supposed to end at 8:58 or did my ITunes just fuck up?
-
Nope, it's 12 minutes long.
-
Just discovered these guys this week. Amazing and Original stuff. Hope these guys get some recognition in the Metal community. What a great Debut.
-
I honestly can't choose what is my favorite album of the year is, Portal of I or Epicloud.
As I've said before, I will say it again. Portal of I is my favorite debut album ever. It is pure perfection all the way through. And theyw ill only get better from here.
-
Seeing them in about a month!
-
Wonderful piece of work.
-
I saw them play Sydney a few months back and they were very impressive.
At the time, the album didn't quite click, but after seeing them in the flesh, it all made perfect sense.
-
Will be seeing the Tapestry drum intro live in less than an hour!
-
Wow, they were amazing! If they ever go to the US or wherever you guys live, go see them for sure. Fantastic live show!

Yes yes yes yes yes to the power of a million.
-
Looking forward to it. I enjoy the first album and the EP.
-
:omg:
-
Also holy shit that cover art is so much win.
-
The cover art on the first album is perhaps my favorite of any album. Ever. This one is cool too.
I'm really looking forward to this album, as well as the impending world tour for which they've been raising money through fan donations over the past few months.
-
aw yeah looking forward to this so much
-
Hell yes :metal Can't wait!!
-
I remember liking the debut even if I haven't heard it since the month it came out, and I don't remember anything about it, but I'm excited for a new album.
-
Consider me excited.
-
Just checking out a track from these guys now from Lowdz pimping them in the what album thread.
Really fucking good. So much Opeth influence, really great stuff. Plus I gotta support my Aussie boys.
-
Nice to see more people enjoying the band. They really are awesome and talented and hopefully grow into having a great, long career.
-
Hell yeah. Looking forward to this.
-
Can we get a thread title change? Something to promote the new album.
-
Listening to Portal of I, it's amazing. I actually find it really good chill out music.
-
I actually don't hear any Opeth at all.
Looking forward to the new album and 2 EP's from the pledge campaign that I put $160 for.
-

Yeah 2 different EP's, a shirt and my name in the booklets.

Yeah 2 different EP's, a shirt and my name in the booklets.
That's worth it, and it helps the band out, good shit.

-
That sounds awesome.
Though I'd call it fucking pretentious if any other band had titles like this. I mean, it's still slightly pretentious, but I know that NeO can create music so awesome that I don't care about the pretentiousness of the titles.
-
It's pretty darn pretentious/cheesy but as long as the music is good I don't mind. :lol
-
it's less cheesy than the Rush equivalents :P
i really like that it's essentially 3 songs. was hoping NeO would vastly expand their scope like this! (now if only Anathema could follow suit...)
-
Yeah I absolutely agree on the track titles being, at the very least, a little pretentious. But echoing Scorp and Zantera, it's not going to bother me if the music holds up.
I'm looking forward to the release of North American tour dates. Hopefully I can catch a show within a couple hours distance.
-
That sounded pretty good.
This is a band I'm really on the fence about; I really love parts of their sound but I've given Portal of I a few tries and I just couldn't sit through it. A lot of the songs just seemed to monotonous and repetitive, with some amazing sections here and there. So I'm hoping that this next album is an improvement in that regard.
-
Portal of I is definitely one of those albums I would want to like more than I do. In theory it could be a strong 9 or 9.5 out of 10 for me, but it's only about 7.5 or an 8. I like it, but it's not completely mindblowing. If I compare them to other bands who mix black metal with other genres (like Agalloch for example), they're a notch below in quality. But with that said, I do very much like the album, just hoping it will click a bit more.
-
Give me more of those pretentious titles pls.
Oh man, one of the bands that I just have really high hopes for and am excited to see what they do and how they advance in their career while being able to listen to what they make. And this song has me so happy and excited for their new album that I'm really glad they clicked with me with the first listen I ever gave them. Hope you end up enjoying them as much as I do Zantera with their new album when it comes out and then eventually their first album.
-
Looking forward to this, I enjoyed the first one quite a bit.
-
Am I the only person who thinks bitching about "pretentious titles" is ... pretentious?
-
Am I the only person who thinks bitching about "pretentious titles" is ... pretentious?
As far as I can see, nobody is bitching about the titles, just acknowledging that they're pretenious/super proggy as fuck, which is kind of hard to dispute. Of course it's not what the music is titled as that is important, but the music itself, but I don't see anything wrong with noting what a title comes across as.
-
Am I the only person who thinks bitching about "pretentious titles" is ... pretentious?
No, now that you bring it up, I agree with you. But like DC said, I don't think we're bitching.
-
So 'Curator' is a third of one movement of the full song? 'Painters of the Tempest' must be massive if it is all one song! :omg:
I'll get this album as I loved Portal of I, but I'll wait until it comes out to listen to anything from it.
-
I didn't mean literally bitching...I just found the idea of saying that something was pretentious is a pretentious behavior itself mildly amusing.
-

I'll get this album as I loved Portal of I, but I'll wait until it comes out to listen to anything from it.
It looks like it's a song within a song within a song.

Already seeing people ejaculating "BEST ALBUM OF THE DECADE" so I shall remain wary of the hype train this has going. I know it'll be good, but from the song or two shown, definitely not album of the year, let alone the decade.
-
I'll wait for my copy.
Also, I think it is time to change the thread title.
-
Always good to be wary of the hype train, but I've got to say so far I'm very impressed. I always liked the first one, but somehow found myself wanting to like it even more than I did.
This one doesn't have that problem for me. I'm finding this one to be, on the whole, more varied, memorable, and interesting than Portal of I. Triptych Lux, in particular, is magnificent.
-
Fantastic album. Not my album of the year, but it's one of the year's best albums. I think the violin and clean vocals are the best parts about this group.
-
Yeah, this album is on another level. Absolutely phenomenal, and a definite improvement over Portal of I. Top 5 of the year right now, we'll see if it gets #1-- it certainly is good enough.
-
Trying very hard to resist listening to the stream.
I just ordered the CD/vinyl,
Portal was a real struggle for me until I saw them play it live then everything clicked.
-
Have been listening to this quite a bit the last couple days and I really think it's outstanding. It feels as though it runs a little short and I think there could be maybe one mid-length song with lyrics somewhere between the longer songs and short instrumentals. Being a newer fan of the band I can't compare between this and Portal Of I but to me this is exceptional! :tup
-
Currently listening, and I'm liking what I'm hearing. Not sure if it's as good as its predecessor - only time will tell that - but it sure as hell doesn't disappoint. Every black metal band should use violins.
-
Go the CD yesterday, bloody brilliant, easily as good as the 1st one.
Can't wait to see them live 3 weeks today :metal
-
For me they haven't quite solved the problem that I had with the debut-the long songs all slightly overstay their welcome for me, and I honestly zone out for the last few minutes of the sixteen minute one. I still see them as having loads of potential, but they would be a far better band if they worked the 6-8 minute range more often for me.
-
For me, that's there major selling point for me, being a truly progressive and innovative that mixes things up, plays long songs and is a little over the top.
Going from a brutal black metal onslaught to an ambient interlude is music to my ears :metal
-
So yeah, this album is all kinds of awesome. Love it, definitely Top 5 of the year. What I noticed immediately (and very much liked) is that there are a whole lot more guitar solos on this album.
-
So I got Citadel as a late christmas present a little while ago. I like it a lot, and this is coming from someone who was only ever to make it through a few songs on Portal of I. I think the fact that there's really only three songs makes this album a lot more accessible, though I do wish there was perhaps one more song, since while Painters Of The Tempest and Devour Me Colossus are both great, Phyrric is just okay. I also think the band's heavy sections could use a lot more variety, but this is still a very enjoyable album overall.

Killer new video for their 12:32 single

First song I heard from them and it is awesome.
I listened to some other tracks and I loved them too. I like the contrast of the vocals, along with the how the clean vocalist is the violinist. Sort of reminds me of Kansas.
I am so glad they're coming here and I am not going to miss seeing them live.
