Title: "Piano techno"? Help a brother out, guys
Post by: LeeHarveyKennedy on October 09, 2010, 03:18:58 PM
Today, a friend of mine asked me to recommend him some good bands in the 'piano techno' genre. I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't really have any idea what might fall into such a nebulous description. I recommended him some trip-hop and a few of Jordan Rudess' crazier works, and told him I'd try to think up some other things that might fall under that genre.

So DTF, as I usually do in situations like these, I turn to your collective musical knowledge. Recommend me anything that strikes you when you hear the term 'piano techno'.

Ulver - Perdition City

It's a lot more than "piano-techno", but it's worth checking out! :tup

Uh...maybe some of the Chroma Key stuff?

Or not.

Chroma Key isn't techno. Electronic, but not techno.

Honestly, I don't think he's expecting something that strictly adheres to 'techno', he was probably just using that as a blanket term for mostly instrumental, possibly upbeat piano driven tunes.

Oh, I know this.  But the song "Before You Started" is the closest thing to techno that I listen to.
