Oh, baby.  I'm there.  It's only 20 minutes away from me.  I wonder if Portnoy will go and be together with the band.  That would be fun to see.  Maybe Moore will appear?

$250 for VIP tickets to mingle with the band.  $100 for regular tickets.

They couldn't do this a year ago? Kind of a sad coincidence they waited until MP was gone... :(

I know.  But it's their induction and he's a large part of the band's history.  I feel like he should be there.  Plus, he's from Long Island.  If he wasn't a LI native, I'd say OK.  But it feels like he should be there for the induction of the LI band he was a part of for 25 years, no?

Maybe not.  Idk.  I'm kinda torn on this one.

I just called the venue.  They're in discussions with DT about playing an acoustic set.  The reason for the acoustic set is because: a) the band doesn't currently have a drummer; b) Portnoy will still be on tour with AX7.  No dress code.  We can wear our DT goods.

An acoustic set? Lame. I mean its cool, but if I were being abducted into a RRHF, I'd want to go all out.

Dude, what are you talking about, an acoustic set would be phenomenal. Playing a regular set would just be boring, whereas the last time they did an acoustic set was during FII times.

An acoustic set would be interesting. But what could they play?

I'd think they would do a version of "Wither" that is a mix between the piano/vocals only version and the album version, with acoustic guitar thrown on top.

Also, "The Answer Lies Within", "I Walk Beside You", "Vacant", "Disappear" (!!!), and maybe some old FII-era songs that haven't been played in awhile. Maybe "Solitary Shell" and "Goodnight Kiss"? It'd be hard to do some of their longer, and/or heavier songs in such a format... but if they had to pick an epic, I'd say maybe "Trial Of Tears". How funny would it be if they pulled out "Space-Dye Vest"? :lol

I'm sure they would invite MP.  But he'll still be doing AX7 shows.  Unless he opts to ditch a couple AX7 shows to come to LI for the induction.  I guess that's always a possibility.

I know it's a stretch, but I hope Kevin Moore makes an appearance.  He had a key role in the band's early success.  Kinda cool also that Jordan happens to be a Long Island native as well.

No to both. Portnoy really cant just ditch A7x for a few shows, it would totally screw them over. And Kevin Moore will have nothing to do with this, which is sad.

What about Charlie and Derek? I'm sure they'd love to come out to join them, considering they did so for the band's debut album's 15th anniversary 6 years ago. It'd be a nice gesture for the band to invite THEM at least, and whether or not they make it is then up to them.

Considering the number of inductees, what are the odds of DT doing more than 1 song? Which will probably be wither.

I agree.  The appeal for me is mostly the "party" where you can mingle with inductees at an open bar.  Of course, I'll probably freeze up and go mute.  But the ceremony and speech will be nice to see, as a fan.  The castle is beautiful too.  I think it will be a memorable time for sure.

They might do more than 1.  There are lots of inductees, but I'd say at least half of them arent' actually performers.  For example, I would imagine there won't be any performance by the concert venue, the radio station program director, the booking agency president, the classical composer or the photographer... :P

Myung was interesting.  We were about 10 feet away from him and his wife in the audience.  He let Petrucci handle the speech and then he took his seat to watch another hour or so of the induction.  I spotted him for a second in the after-party and then he was gone!  I made a conscious effort to keep my eye on him because I really wanted a Myung pic.  But he slipped through our fingers.

I do have some pics of Myung getting interviewed by a local TV station.  I'll upload them tomorrow.

Hey, Brian.  Yeah, I'll definitely try to write it tonight after work.

Yea, gabeh1018 asked a lot of Portnoy related questions and questions about the drummer.  I'll let him tell it though, if he wants.  But basically, JP said that we should expect an announcement pretty soon, although he declined to give a timeframe or confirm whether it would be announced before the end of the year.  He said something like when the announcement is made you'll understand why I couldn't give you more information about it right now.  Maybe the drummer is still working with another band and they can't announce it quite yet.  In responding to another question, he said that a lot of people perceived Mike to be controlling because he is very outspoken, but that really was not the case.  He seemed really cautious on his MP and drummer questions.  He would pause and collect his thoughts before responding.  Gabe was talking to him a bit more and probably has some good stuff.

I asked him if he talks to Kevin Moore at all and asked if he reached out to him regarding the induction.  He said he hasn't talked to Kevin in a while, which he said is funny because they were great friends growing up.  He said Kevin called him "out of the blue" a few years ago when DT released a DVD that contained some old footage (probably WDAD Reunite)?  I also asked what he thinks of OSI.  He said he's not too up on OSI, but he did hear the first album and liked it.  I said they're currently working on OSI4 and he asked how many albums they'd released total.  I said three.  Then, he asked if it's the same lineup.  I said it's Jim, Kevin and Gavin.  He said, Gavin?  I said yes, Gavin did the last album because Mike and Kevin couldn't work together anymore.  He didn't realize Gavin was in OSI.

I was the only one decked out in DT gear, but it was good because the other DT fans would see me and it helped us find each other.  I think I freaked JP out slightly with fanboyness.  At one point, I thought he was gonna leave so I followed him out of the room and tapped him on the shoulder.  He turned around and saw me dressed like a DT mascot, lol.  I said, John you can't leave until I get a photo with you.  He was polite.  He spoke with everyone and posed for photos.

I was disappointed that Myung didn't stick around for the afterparty and pose for some joint photos with Petrucci.  But it was late and he had to drive a few hours home apparently.  I enjoyed observing Myung.  He didn't really react to jokes or smile or anything.  He was stoic.  His wife saw me from the red carpet and she smiled at my DT gear.

Kudos to Petrucci for knowing how to dress for something like this.  So many musicians would show up looking like they were ready to go to a party, wearing something ridiculous, but a suit and tie is the way to go. :tup :tup

Even Slipknot has gone to award ceremonies in tuxedos... they were still wearing the masks though, which may have diminished the effect.

Mike - thanks!

In regard to the MP/drummer-related stuff, interesting. One has to think, based on the way you explained it, that whoever they have decided on is in the midst of something and has to finish up/depart before committing to Dream Theater. I haven't been up on all the scuttlebutt regarding the potential drummer candidates (except for Lang and Divirgillio - bad spelling, I know), so we'll see.

I held out some hope it would be Zonder, but apparently he's just created a new prog metal band, so it isn't going to be him.

Lol... Mike - you left out the part where JP was starting to worry that you would begin investigating his tax records :P.

And two brief addendums to what Mebert said -

1) I think JP actually said we should expect "several" announcements in the near future.  He said he wished he could tell people now and he definitely seemed to perk up a little bit when talking about these mysterious announcements, which made me think that (A) there's gonna be some cool news, and (B) even JP himself is genuinely excited about whatever this news is.

2) The impression I got was that they still haven't made a final decision on the new drummer (as opposed to having made a decision but holding back on the announcement).  I overheard a bit of conversation between JP and Fingers that made it sound as if they were still in the "searching" phase.

If that's true then for some reason working with multiple drummers comes to mind. Otherwise if they had one it would just be 'we can't say anything yet,' no matter how excited they are about it. But where do 'several' announcements fit?

I thought his speech was fine the way it was.  I don't think it would have been inappropriate for him to mention Mike, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with the fact that he didn't.  What would he have said anyway?

And yeah, JR wasn't born on LI, but he lived in Great Neck from the ages of 7 - 18, so he was essentially raised here.

I think he's just reserved and doesn't feel the need to say anything most of the time. I mean, he still does the occasional interview, and he's done instructional videos and such. He obviously enjoys playing up the fact that he's the quiet one, though.

Why is he JMX anyway?  There's no X anywhere in his name so what's the point?  I've wondered this for quite some time now.  I can accept CJS but even that's a stretch.  Why can't he just be JM?  Why are the other guys not JRX or JPX or MPX?

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Long Island Music Hall of Fame has secured a building that will eventually be open to the public.  So there will likely be some mention of Dream Theater there, since they were inducted in the fall.  No word on when it will officially open just yet.  Here is the story.

LI Music Hall of Fame moves to Port Jeff

After searching five years for a home, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame has a hall.

In a ceremony Thursday morning in Port Jefferson, Brookhaven Town officials turned over a town building at the corner of Main and East Main streets to Hall of Fame chairman James Faith.

"The great musicians of Long Island and the rich musical history of Long Island will finally have a home," said Faith, pumping his fist as he addressed a crowd that included inductees and local officials. "It's about time, Long Island. This is it."

The museum, whose inducted members include Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, Twisted Sister and Zebra, has been looking for a building since naming its first members in 2006.

Faith said after the ceremony he didn't know when the museum will open.

Earlier this year, the museum arranged to lease the building from the town. The vacant building, the former First National Bank of Port Jefferson, needs extensive renovations. The oldest portions of the building date to 1900.

The ceremony was attended by several inductees, including Peppi Marchello and his brother, Mickey Marchello, of The Good Rats, Vincent Martell of Vanilla Fudge, and Carole Demas and Paula Janis, the stars of the 1970s children's TV show "The Magic Garden."

Demas and Janis sang their tune, "The Hello Song," to help christen the hall.

Janis, 71, noted that their show, which debuted on WPIX/Channel 11 in 1972 and aired for about 13 years, had premiered "a long, long time ago."

"You know how long ago it was when you're in a museum," Janis said.

Looks like the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, which Dream Theater was inducted into in 2010, is one step closer to having a physical home again.  Let's hope it happens this time.  Previous plans for a physical home in Port Jefferson, Long Island, fell apart a year or two ago.

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame plans to set up its first permanent museum in Wyandanch as part of the Babylon Town hamlet's revitalization efforts, according to sources close to the hall and town.

The hall of fame and Suffolk County officials are to announce the development at Thursday's induction ceremony at the Paramount in Huntington, the sources said. Founded in 2004, the hall has been based in Port Jefferson but had not been able to find a permanent home for its archived collection of music memorabilia.

Jim Faith, the hall of fame's vice chairman, confirmed the group had decided on a location but declined to name it.

"We have a very exciting announcement about our new home planned for the gala," he said. A source close to the hall said plans and renderings for the new building are to be unveiled at the induction ceremony. The source noted that plans to change the name of the Wyandanch Long Island Rail Road stop to Wyandanch -- Long Island Music Hall of Fame also are underway. A sign for the new station name is expected to be unveiled Thursday.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has long sought the hall for Wyandanch Rising, the massive public-private redevelopment that he spearheaded while town supervisor. County spokeswoman Vanessa Baird-Streeter declined to comment.

Babylon Town Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez said there have been "really strong efforts from the town to bring the Long Island Music Hall of Fame to Wyandanch." He said a proposal had been made to house the hall in "Building C," which would be located near two mixed-use buildings under construction close to the LIRR station.

"Bellone has always had it in his mind to have a high-caliber organization anchoring" the building, Martinez said.

The two buildings' 177 apartments and 35,000 square feet of retail space are being constructed by Albanese Organization Inc., of Garden City. The company did not respond to requests for comment.

Tonight's ceremony will take place at 8:30 with Debbie Gibson, Clive Davis and Kurtis Blow among the inductees.
